Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to go to Israel tomorrow. Israel has identified the bodies of two more deceased Israeli hostages. Hamas handed them over yesterday as part of the ceasefire agreement. One male hostage was killed when Hamas attacked Israel more than two years ago. The second hostage died in captivity. A standoff continues between Democrats and Republicans over how to end the federal government shutdown. It's now more than three weeks old. NPR's Tamara Keith reports. There are no scheduled negotiations among lawmakers.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has sent a letter to the Trump administration. They're asking President Trump to pause the demolition of part of the White House. Trump wants to build a huge ballroom on the East Wing. The group says the administration needs to follow building plans and it's worried the demolition will harm the historic nature of the White House. Seven universities have declined offers from the Trump administration to sign an agreement on their curriculum to align with Trump administration priorities.
