Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Korva Coleman. President Trump says he's cutting off all US Trade talks with Canada. Writing online late last night, Trump blamed a commercial that's been released by the Canadian province of Ontario. The Ontario ad blasts US Tariffs. It also shows a clip of former President Ronald Reagan talking about tariffs, but the Ronald Reagan Presidential foundation says the clip misrepresents a speech given by the late president. Separately, Canada is limiting the number of American made vehicles imported by GM and Stellantis without tariffs. Dan Karpenschuk reports the automakers dropped some of their Canadian production in recent weeks.
B
Both GM and Stellantis have announced cuts. Stellantis plans to move production of the Jeep Compass from Brampton, Ontario, to Illinois. And GM announced this week that it will end production of commercial electric vans. In a late night statement, the Canadian government called the automaker's actions an unacceptable decision and and was a direct breach of their commitments to the country and to Canadian workers. For NPR News, I'm Dan Karpenchuk in Toronto.

Today should be payday for many federal workers. Instead, more than a million of them are getting nothing. That's because the federal government shutdown has entered a 24th day. NPR's Andrea Hsu has more.
C
Some 700,000 federal workers are still furloughed. Close to that, many are working without pay. That includes people like Tierra Carter, who answers phones for the Social Security Administration in Florida and also serves as a union representative with the American Federation of Government Employees. The lack of a paycheck has brought her new financial stress, having to manipulate.
D
Things over here, move things over here, delay payments here, all to just make it to work.
C
43% of federal workers earn less than $90,000 a year, according to the Pew Research Center. Now many workers are turning to community groups for food assistance and credit unions for emergency loans as they wait for the shutdown to end. Andrea HS NPR News.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been meeting European leaders in Brussels. He's asking for help to fight Russia's invasion of his country. NPR's Hanna Palamorenko has more.
E
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to EU leaders to support Ukraine. At the European Council gathering, he emphasized the importance of making a decision on the use of frozen Russian assets as soon as possible.
F
Russia brought war to our land and they have to pay for this war. In any case, one of the ways to pressure on them is to use frozen assets.
E
Zelensky says the money from frozen Russian assets could be used on Ukrainian production of drones, electronic warfare and missiles, as well as European production of artillery shells, reconnaissance drones and air defense systems. Hanna Polomarenko, NPR News, Kyiv.

You're listening to npr. Forecasters say Tropical Storm Melissa is nearly stationary in the Caribbean. They warn that in the next few days, Jamaica could see days of catastrophic rain, wind and flash flooding. Haiti will see life threatening conditions. The NBA says it's cooperating with the Justice Department in two federal probes of illegal gambling and sports rigging. One probe is of defendants who allegedly shared information about NBA players with people placing bets. The second probe is of numerous defendants, some of them in the NBA, who allegedly fleeced victims who were betting on rigged poker games. The World Series is set to open tonight in Toronto, Canada. The Toronto Blue Jays will host last year's defending champion, Los Angeles Dodgers. Steve Futterman has more from Toronto.
G
The Dodgers are trying to do something rarely done these days, repeat as champions. The New York Yankees were the last to do it in 2000. They won three in a row. Louisiana pitcher Clayton Kershaw says the Dodgers just want to win and are not focused on being called a dynasty after.
H
You know, 10, 15 years, we can all look back on all that, but for now, it's not really talked about. You know, it's not really a hot button issue with the players.
G
While Los Angeles is led by the great Shohei Ohtani, Toronto's hitting star is Vladimir Guerrero Jr. He has six home runs during these playoffs. That's even one more than Ohtani. Still, LA is the big favorite, primarily because of the Dodgers starting pitching. For NPR News, I'm Steve Futterman at the World Series in Toronto.
