In Washington, I'm Dan Ronan. Treasury Secretary Scott Busset says the federal government's SNAP benefits could be resumed to the 42 million Americans who receive food assistance as early as as this coming Wednesday. Two federal judges Friday ordered the Trump administration to begin paying the benefits during the government Shutdown. Appearing on CNN's State of the Union Sunday, Bessit said the White House would not appeal the court ruling, but they're still waiting for guidance.

It's got to go through the courts. The courts keep jamming up things. Democrats are in the middle of a civil war and they should just open the government. That is the easiest way to do.

This Friday, President Trump said on social media the White House is exploring all of its options to restart the program. Over the weekend, immigration enforcement actions in and around Chicago led to muted Halloween and Day of the Dead celebrations. At least one Halloween parade was canceled. NPR's Jasmine Gartz reports.

Leading up to the weekend, Illinois Governor J.B. pritzker called for federal agents to pause their immigration operations. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called the request shameful. On Friday, clashes between protesters and ICE agents erupted in Evanston, a suburb of Chicago. Agents threw tear gas and witnesses posted video footage of an agent holding a man down and repeatedly hitting him on the head. In a statement to npr, a DHS spokesperson called the crowd hostile. DHS confirmed that three US Citizens were detained, as well as five undocumented immigrants from Mexico. The spokesperson said the immigrants had criminal histories, including trespassing and multiple illegal entries into the US Jasmine Garst, NPR News, New York.

Another transfer of human remains took place Sunday in Gaza. Israel's prime minister's office says the Red Cross has transferred three bodies believed to be those hostages taken on October 7th of 2023. It's the latest exchange under the US brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. NPR's Lauren Frayer reports from Tel Aviv.

Hamas's armed wing says it located these three bodies hours earlier in a tunnel in southern Gaza. They're undergoing forensic tests to make sure they are indeed the bodies of Israeli hostages. That turned out not to be the case with three other bodies transferred from Gaza earlier this weekend. For every hostage body returned to Israel, 15 Palestinian bodies are to be returned to Gaza in exchange. But Israel accuses Hamas of delaying these transfers. Hamas says recovering bodies has been difficult, though because of the extent of destruction. If tests do show these latest remains are those of hostages, that means eight hostages remain in Gaza, all of them deceased. Lauren Frayer, NPR News, Tel Aviv.

At least 10 people have died, 260 others injured when a powerful pre dawn earthquake struck northern Afghanistan. This is NPR News. The Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Cam Little now owns the record for the longest field goal in the NFL history. Sunday he hit a perfect 68 yard kick that easily cleared the goal post. His kick at the end of the first half helped Jacksonville to a 30:29 overtime win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The previous record was 66 yards by Baltimore Ravens former kicker Justin Tucker. The Kansas City Chiefs have advanced to the super bowl in five of the last six years, but this season continues to be uncharacteristically challenging. After a loss to the Buffalo Bills Sunday, Greg Eklund reports.

The game was a rematch of last year's AFC Championship game when the Chiefs the Chiefs defeated the Bills to reach the super bowl again. But this time the Bills dominated, grabbing the lead in the second quarter behind quarterback Josh Allen, who ran for a pair of touchdowns and added a TD pass. The Chiefs are going into their bye week with a 54 record. And in third place in the AFC west, the Denver Broncos will host the Chiefs on November 16th. Denver leads the division with a 72 record. For NPR News, I'm Greg Eklund.

The final score, 28 to 21. A teenage birthday party Sunday northwest of Akron, Ohio, turned violent with gunfire. At least nine people were wounded. The police chief in Bath Township said the party took place at a home that was rented out on Airbnb and the party had been widely promoted on social media. No arrests have been made. Airbnb says it prohibits unauthorized disruptive gatherings. I'm Dan Ronan, NPR News, in Washington.
