Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Shea Stevens. President Trump has announced a deal to lower prescription costs. Trump says drugmakers Eli Lilly and Noble Nordisk are expanding coverage of their obesity and type 2 diabetes drugs to Medicaid and Medicare patients at a much lower cost.
NPR Reporter
Americans have been spending as much as 520% more for Zepbound and 1,400% more for WeGovy than patients in Europe. Think of that, 1,400% more than a patient Europe for the exact same box. And that ends starting today.
Shea Stevens
Trump says the lower cost will also apply to oral versions of the weight loss drugs. Men are still in development. The government shutdown threatens to disrupt domestic air travel with fewer staff on duty. NPR's Windsor Johnston reports that the FAA is warning of flight delays and limited airspace.

The Federal Aviation Administration is urging passengers to plan for longer security and boarding times. Some regional control centers could operate with reduced staff, meaning fewer flights allow through at once. Airlines are advising customers to check flight status early and sign up for text alert. Transportation Security Administration says arriving at least two hours before domestic flights and three for international is even more critical. During the shutdown, travel experts recommend booking early morning departures. The FAA says it's working to minimize disruptions, but until funding is restored, even clear skies could mean crowded airspace. Windsor Johnston, NPR News, Washington.

The Congressional Budget Office says it's been hacked and that some government data may have been compromised. Spokeswoman Caitlin Emma says immediate action was taken to contain breach and that new monitoring and security controls have been added. CBO is a nonpartisan agency that advises Congress on the federal budget. Former U.S. house Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she will not seek another term in office. From member station kqed, Scott Shaffer has more.
Scott Shaffer
Pelosi's nearly six minute announcement video is essentially a love letter to San Francisco and her constituents. After references to the city's values, resilience and progress, she reveals at the end she won't seek reelection. Pelosi was sworn in for the first time as speaker in 2007.
NPR Reporter
It's an historic moment for the Congress. It's an historic moment for the women of America.
Scott Shaffer
In her 38 years in Congress, Pelosi wielded power to get federal funding for AIDS and public transit and muscled through Democratic priorities like the Affordable Care act, now the focus of Democrats refusal to reopen the government. Pelosi has been a leading foil to President Donald Trump, overseeing two impeachments and a House investigation into the January 6 attack on the Capitol. For NPR News, I'm Scott Schaefer in San Francisco.

Democrats and some top Republicans are demanding more details on the US Military strikes on small boats, alleged narcotics from Venezuela in the Caribbean and Pacific. The attacks have killed at least 66 people since early September. Typhoon Kalmega has claimed nearly 200 lives in the Philippines and Vietnam, with scores others still missing. As Michael Sullivan reports, the Philippine Islands are under a state of emergency days after the storm made landfall there.

Typhoon Kamagi hit the central Philippines the hardest, with the province of Cebu bearing the brunt of the damage. Receding floodwaters are revealing flattened homes, overturned vehicles and streets clogged with debris. It's the 20th storm to hit the Philippines this year and came roughly a month after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake killed more than 60 in Cebu and displaced thousands more. For NPR News, I'm Michael Sullivan in Chiang Rai, Thailand.
