Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene says she'll resign from Congress on January 5th. Greene rose to prominence as one of President Trump's biggest supporters, but over the past several months, the two have regularly fought, in particular over the release of the Epstein files. In a video announcing her decision, Greene said she was tired of being called traitor and wacky.
Marjorie Taylor Greene
I refuse to be a battered wife, hoping it all goes away and gets better. If I am cast aside by the president and the MAGA political machine and replaced by Neo Khan's big pharma, big tech, military, industrial war complex, foreign leaders and the elite donor class that can never, ever relate to real Americans, then many common Americans have been cast aside and replaced as well.

Green also said Republicans are likely to lose next year's midterm elections. President Trump renewed efforts to end the war in Ukraine this week with news of a 28 point peace plan. But NPR's Franco Ordonez reports that international observers are urging caution about the proposal's practicality.
Franco Ordonez
Only a few details have come out, but one seen as a non starter for Kyiv involves Ukraine ceding territory to Russia, a proposal Trump has pushed before. Sam Cherup, who's at Rand, a think tank that studies security, says the details don't matter as much to Trump. He just wants to stop the fighting.
Sam Cherup
For both Presidents Putin and Zelensky, the details really matter. That's why you have to have them or their representatives in the room working these issues in detail if you want to get something that will stick.
Franco Ordonez
That's why Russia wants more strategic territory. And Ukraine is so adamant about needing security guarantees from Washington and its Western partners so that this type of invasion doesn't happen again. Franco Ordonez, NPR News, the White House.

U.S. border Patrol agents appear to be winding down their operation in Charlotte, North Carolina, after arresting 370 people over five days. Nick DeLacanal of member station WFAE has our reports.

Activists say Border Patrol sightings around Charlotte have dropped sharply, though they're urging undocumented and mixed status families to stay alert. In Washington, North Carolina Republican Senator Thom Tillis said he wants the idea identities of detainees to be released.
Senator Thom Tillis
I want to make sure that Homeland Security can provide me with the definitive list of people who were detained, how long they were detained, whether or not they were released and when property was damaged, whether or not they've been provided proper restitution.
Nick DeLacanal
Homeland Security has identified only a handful of detainees, saying at least 44 have criminal records and two are suspected gang members. For NPR News, I'm Nick Della Canal in Charlotte.

Four people were shot Friday night at the Christmas tree lighting in Concord, North Carolina. Three of them are in critical condition at this site. Police say it's not clear what caused the shooting, and so far they have no one in custody. You're listening to NPR News. It was a rocky day on Wall Street Friday with the market swinging up and down several times. But in the end, The S&P 500 finished with a gain of 1%, while the Dow Jones industrials climbed 1.1%. The Nasdaq composite, meanwhile, climbed 1.1%. President Trump met Friday with New York Mayor Elect Zoran Mandami. In the past, Trump has called Mondani a 100% lunatic and the total nutjob. But after their meeting, the two appeared before reporters to talk about their shared goals for helping New York thrive.
Donald Trump
Trump said he was surprised by what he called a great meeting and said the Democratic socialist will also surprise some conservative people. The Trump administration has published the technical specifications for a new crash test dummy design that's based on a female body. NPR's Camilla Dominosky has more women are.
Camilla Dominosky
More likely to be injured in a vehicle crash than men, and safety advocates have long argued. One reason might be that required safety tests only use dummies based on the male body. The new design is meant to help. Chris o' Connor is the CEO of crash test dummy manufacturer Humanetics.
Donald Trump
It was designed around what injuries a female would have, not just what a small male would have.
Camilla Dominosky
Humanetics and federal regulators have worked on the new design for over a decade, and there are still several more regulatory steps before the dummy will actually be required in tests. Camila Dominosky, NPR News, Ole Miss says.
