Live from NPR News, I'm Giles Snyder. Former FBI Director James Comey says he's grateful that the case against him has been dismissed by a federal judge, but he believes it won't end there. I know that Donald Trump will probably come after me again, and my attitude's going to be the same. I'm innocent, I am not afraid, and I believe in an independent federal judiciary. US District Judge Cameron McGowan dismissed the case against Comey as well as the case against New York Attorney General Letitia James on Monday, saying the prosecutor who brought the charges at President Trump's urging was illegally appointed by the Justice Department. The dismissal of the cases against Comey and James is a blow to the administration's attempt to prosecute two prominent critics. But NPR's Danielle Kurtzleben reports. The White House says it plans to appeal.
NPR Correspondent Danielle Kurtzleben
The judge ruled that Trump had not legally appointed Lindsey Halligan to the role of Acting U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Halligan secured the indictments against Comey and James in that role. White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt today addressed the judge's decision.

The Department of Justice will be appealing very soon, and it is our position that Lindsey Halligan is extremely qualified for this position, but more importantly was legally appointed to it.

Comey was indicted in September with charges of obstructing justice and making a false statement to the Senate. James was indicted on charges of bank fraud and false statements to a financial institution. Both have pleaded not guilty. Danielle Kurtzleben, NPR News.

Oregon Governor Tina Kotak has declared an emergency because of a leak that led to the shutdown of the Olympic pipeline. The emergency is intended to ensure fuel supplies continue while crews work to fix the leak. The pipeline's operator, British Petroleum, says crews are working around the clock to find the source. Airlines in Oregon and Washington state have activated contingency plans to limit disruptions during the busy Thanksgiving travel week. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on social media that the original U s backed 28 point peace plan viewed as favoring Russia is no more. NPR's Eleanor Beardsley reports that Ukraine's European allies weighed in during talks in Geneva to alter what was seen as an unacceptable plan.
NPR Correspondent Eleanor Beardsley
The original plan drawn up by Russia and the US Crossed nearly every one of the red lines set down by Ukraine and Europe. German Chancellor Frederick Maers told President Trump. The entire European continent was at stake in the negotiations. Zelenskyy wrote on telegram that after difficult work, many of the right elements have been taken into account in the new framework. He said he would discuss the most sensitive issues with President Trump. Zelenskyy's statement seems consistent with reports that issues such as Ukraine ceding its occupied territories and agreeing to forgo NATO membership have been set aside for direct talks between Zelensky and Trump. What started as ideas in a parents group chat became a community effort to raise 150,000 Danish krona, or about US$23,000, and build a skate park in Karoto. A demand for youth spaces pushed the community to act, even as the town deals with high unemployment and debt. Soan Muttensen is an engineer and lifelong skateboarder.
