Police are asking the public to help them catch the suspect. They have raised the reward for capture to up to $10,000. The police, the police commissioner also sought to quell any public concerns about security surrounding today's tree lighting and other holiday events while Thompson's killer is at large. Meanwhile, United Healthcare Group has just released a statement about Thompson's death saying Thompson was a highly respected colleague and friend to all who worked with him. The US Supreme Court is considering arguments in a case testing whether states may ban minors from accessing gender affirming care. NPR's Nina Totenberg has details.
NPR Announcer
In the last three years, 25 states have enacted bans or otherwise restricted access to puberty blockers and hormones for minors seeking to change their sex. State Senator Jack Johnson is one of the sponsors of the Tennessee law that's now before the court.

We felt like this was the best public policy to prevent kids from suffering from irreversible consequences, things that cannot be undone.

But those challenging the law counter that the state discriminates based on sex because the same medications the state bans for gender dysphoria, Victoria are permitted to treat minors for many other conditions. Nina Totenberg, NPR News, Washington.

Debate is underway in the French parliament over whether to oust the prime minister and his government. NPR's Eleanor Beardsley reports. The lower house will vote on no confidence motions filed by the far right and far left parties.
Jessica Tisch
Parliament members from the centre accuse their colleagues on the extremes of being agents of chaos. Parties on the far left and far right say the government's budget, pushed through as an emergency measure without the support of Parliament, hurts the working class. No single party in the fragmented French parliament has a majority, but the two extremes hold the largest voting blocs. If the no confidence motion passes, Prime Minister Michel Bernier's government will fall. France could be plunged into political uncertainty as soon as this evening. If the government falls, President Emmanuel Macron will have to find a new prime minister, but the parliamentary divisions will remain. Eleanor Beardsley, NPR News, Paris.
