Lie From NPR News, I'm Lakshmi Singh. Advisors are recommending the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention do away with a blanket guidance to immunize all babies against hepatitis B with within the first 24 hours of life. Many public health experts say there's overwhelming evidence the universal vaccinations have been effective in protecting young children from being infected with a virus that can lead to liver diseases later in life. NPR's Rob Stein reports on why the advisory panel decided to reexamine hepatitis B vaccinations for infants.
Health Correspondent
This committee was put together by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Who has long questioned many vaccines and has launched a major review of all childhood vaccinations. Some members of this CDC committee argue that there's insufficient evidence that giving all newborns the vaccine when they're so young is really necessary, given that the hepatitis B vaccine is often spread through sex or drug use. They also question whether it's safe to immunize babies so early in life.

The European Union is fining x $140 million for what it has determined are breaches of the block's Digital Services Act. Terry Schultz reports. The decision is the culmination of a two year investigation into Elon Musk's company.
European Commission Spokesperson
This is the first fine under the new EU legislation, the Digital Services act, which regulators say X has violated in multiple areas regarding transparency. One is what it calls the deceptive nature of the blue checkmark, which Elon Musk changed when he took over Twitter, from a sign the user's identity had been verified to something that could simply be purchased. European Commission spokesman Thomas Renier says that opens consumers to possible scams and manipulations.
Commercial Announcer
It deceives users. Anyone can pay to obtain the verified status, and X does not meaningfully verify who is behind it.
European Commission Spokesperson
X now has between 60 and 90 days to explain how it will address these concerns, as well as other charges, including allowing researchers access to public data. For NPR News, I'm terri Schultz.
