We need to make government more efficient.

DOGE is not a department, but rather an unofficial advisory body. Forecasters expect to see a rebound in hiring in the monthly jobs data out this morning. NPR's Scott Horsley reports. Some of that change reflects the end of the Boeing strike and better weather in the Southeast.
Scott Horsley
Analysts expect today's report will show that US employers added somewhere around 200,000 jobs in November, a big pickup from the October tally, which showed only about 12,000 jobs added. October's figure was depressed by the Boeing strike, which idled around 40,000 workers, and by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which sidelined many more. Looking beyond those temporary factors, the pace of hiring has generally slowed in recent months, although employers continue to add jobs month after month. Analysts will also be watching the unemployment rate, which was a low 4.1% in October, and the pace of wage gains. Wages have been rising faster than prices for the last year and a half. In the Middle East, a televised speech given by Hezbollah's leader expressed support for the Syrian government against what he called terrorist groups trying to sow chaos. He also outlined a system of compensation for people in Lebanon whose homes have been destroyed by Israeli airstrikes. NPR's Lauren Frayer reports from Beirut.

In a video addressed from an undisclosed location, Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem said his group would pay the rent to rehouse families who've lost their homes while they rebuild. And he specified numbers. $14,000 if you live in the capital, Beirut, and 12,000 outside. He said the money is a gift from Hezbollah's patron, Iran. Qasem also accused Israel of more than 60 violations of a ceasefire in Lebanon, but said his group would still adhere to it. And he accused Israel and the US of sponsoring insurgents in Syria, called an expansionist project in the Middle East. Hezbollah and Iran are allies of Syrian President Bashar al Assad, whose forces have lost territory to opposition fighters in recent days. Lauren Fryer, NPR News, Beirut.

You're listening to NPR News from Washington. Leaders of South Korea's ruling party say President Yoon Seung Yeol must be suspended from office. Yoon declared martial law Tuesday to root out what he called anti state forces carried out by the opposition. The order lasted about six hours before lawmakers voted to lift it. The national assembly is expected to vote on an impeachment motion brought by the opposition party tomorrow. The term microfeminism is trending across social media as people share the small ways they try to fight patriarchy in everyday life. NPR's Ilana Wise reports.

If you've ever intentionally addressed your female colleagues first before the men in the room, you might have been practicing microfeminism. That's when people do seemingly small acts to counter common gender biases. TV producer and host Ashley Cheney sparked discussion of the Trend in a TikTok video that went viral. The response was huge. Many people said they had never heard of the term, but they had been doing these little tricks for years. Chaney said the response was mostly positive, but there were some men who responded negatively. But she said the ordeal had inspired her to be a louder, prouder feminist and that she's happy to give people new ideas on how to stand up to the patriarchy. Ilana Wise, NPR News.
