Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Luis Schiavone. Federal immigration agents have made dozens of arrests in New Orleans this week. The city is the latest target of the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration. NPR's Matt Bloom has more.
Matt Bloom
Department of Homeland Security officials have declined to share precisely how many arrests they've made in their operation underway in southern Louisiana. In a press conference, Mayor Elect Helena Moreno said she and other local leaders sent a letter to U.S. border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino requesting data on people detained.
Helena Moreno
We've constantly heard on the news claims that this operation is about going after rapists, pedophiles and murderers. But is it really casting a much wider net?
Matt Bloom
Bovino, who's in charge of the sweep, has made comments to local media saying his goal is to make as many arrests as he possibly can. Matt Bloom, NPR News, New Orleans.

A federal vaccine advisory committee has voted to end a long standing recommendation that all US Babies get the hepatitis B vaccine on the day they're born. Now a CDC panel is recommending the birth dose only for babies whose mothers. Dr. Richard Besser is a former acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He urges parents to consult with their own pediatricians.
Dr. Richard Besser
I recommend that people talk to their child's doctor and doctors look to the medical societies, the Academy of Pediatrics and others for advice.
Luis Schiavone
Besser says hepatitis B is extremely contagious, and he's concerned the new recommendation might lead to more cases. Millions of Americans 65 and older are finalizing their 2026 Medicare enrollment. From member station Nebraska Public Media, Macy Byers reports on the choices.

Some private insurance companies offer Medicare Advantage plans with low monthly premiums and extra benefits. But analysts say premiums and out of pocket costs are expected to tick up nationally next year. Nebraska Hospital Association President Jeremy Nordquist works with seniors navigating those costs.
Jeremy Nordquist
A lot of Medicare Advantage plans, you may pay less up front, but you are taking a bigger financial risk as you age and move.
Macy Byers
Nationwide, 62 million people can choose Medicare Advantage. Advantage plans may require prior approval for certain services, something Nordquist says can delay or deny care for seniors. For NPR News, I'm Maci Byers in Lincoln, Nebraska.

During the government shutdown that started in October, the Federal Aviation Administration ordered US Airlines to observe an emergency order to cut flights at 40 major airports. The FAA said The order was a safety measure as unpaid air traffic controllers were miss work. Now the FAA is investigating whether airlines complied or could face fines of up to $75,000 for each flight over the reductions. This is NPR.
President Trump has been awarded a peace prize created this year by international soccer's governing body. This was the first award of Its kind from FIFA. NPR's Franco Ordonez reports. Trump was widely expected to win the award because of his close relationship with the FIFA president, Gianni Infant.
Franco Ordonez
President Trump accepted the FIFA peace prize during the World cup draw, which sets up the groups and matchups for next summer's tournament being played across North America.
Dr. Richard Besser
This is truly one of the great honors of my life.
Franco Ordonez
The president often boasts of his role in helping resolve multiple conflicts around the world. The award winner was hardly a surprise, though. Critics psych Trump's close relationship with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who has been ingratiating himself with the president and is often seen by his side. Infantino has also been a vocal supporter of Trump's effort to win another peace award, the Nobel Peace Prize. Franco Ordonez, NPR News.

In the state of Georgia, the Public Service Commission this month will vote on a proposed massive build out by Georgia Power. The state's largest utility wants to invest more than $15 billion to expand its electricity capacity by 50% over the next six. It would be one of the biggest buildouts in the nation. Artificial intelligence engines are huge energy consumers, and the state is home to massive data centers. The cost of electricity bills to regular consumers is a major political issue in the state, with regular customers not wanting to get stuck with the bill. I'm Louise Schiavone, NPR News, Washington.
