Rebels took over Damascus, the Israeli military had been targeting Iranian proxies in Syria to stop the flow of weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the Israeli action against Iranian interests paved the way for the demise of the Assad regime, but now he's worried about what comes next in Syria. So the Israeli air force has destroyed Syrian air defenses, missile depots and chemical weapon sites. The Israelis have also taken over a buffer zone between the Israeli controlled Golan Heights and Syria, including Mount Hernan. Egypt and Jordan have denounced that as a land grab. The Israelis call it a temporary move. Michelle Keleman, NPR news, Tel Aviv.

We don't think that there's any specific threats to other people mentioned in that document, but it does seem that he has some ill will toward corporate America.

And Mangione's writings on social media also include one post about the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski. Mangione expresses fascination with some of Kaczynski's ideas, including the belief that political violence may be necessary.

Character AI develops chatbots popular with teenagers. They're known as companion bots. You can customize their names, avatars and help shape the bot's personality. But a new lawsuit says the Google back chat bot encourages teens to carry out self harm, then in one instance allegedly hinted that a teen should murder his parents. The defective product lawsuit is seeking damages and asking that character AI's bots be taken off the market. Character AI said in a statement that it is working to limit teens exposure to sensitive or suggestive content. Google, which has invested billions into Character AI, said it does not own the AI firm and that user safety is among its top priorities. Bobby Allen, NPR News.

In California, the Franklin wildfire in Malibu has burned more than 1800 acres and, fanned by strong winds, is forcing evacuations. Students at Pepperdine University have been ordered to shelter in place. This is NPR News. The Biden administration has approved the sale of oil and gas leases in Alaska, leaving the door open for drilling and a portion of the pristine Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The sale will be held next month, less than two weeks before he leaves office. It will include a fraction of the land total that was available for bidding roughly four years ago. Ago in a lease sale under the Trump administration accord in Reno dealt a blow to media magnate Rupert Murdoch and his son Laughlin as they seek to revise a family trust to consolidate Laughlin's control over the family's vast holdings, which include Fox News and the Wall Street Journal. NPR's David Falkenflik reports.

The probate commissioner says Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch operated in bad faith, not in the interests of other family members. The news was broken by the New York Times and confirmed to NPR by representatives of parties to the litigation. The actual decision remains sealed and NPR has not yet reviewed it. Rupert Murdoch promised for a generation to bestow equal control of the empire to his four eldest children, a concession he made as part of his second divorce. He sought to change course to retain its far right character, especially at Fox News, the single most important economic engine to the media empire's fortunes.

And Pierce. David Falkenflik reporting. In South Korea, an arrest warrant has been issued for former Defense Minister Kim Jong Un over allegations he colluded with President Yoon Suk Yeo and others in briefly imposing martial law last week, which brought armed troops to Seoul's streets.
