In Washington, I'm Korva Coleman. Australian federal and state leaders say they've agreed to review the country's strict gun laws. This comes after yesterday's mass shooting at a Hanukkah celebration at an Australian be. People were killed and dozens of others were wounded apparently by two suspected shooters. New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lyons says one of the suspects was a member of a gun club.
Mal Lyons
He had a category AB license which entitled him to have the long arms that he had as registered firearms.

That suspect was shot and killed by Australian police. The second suspect was seriously wounded. European leaders, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and President Trump's negotiating team are meeting for a second day of talks in Berlin. NPR's Rob Schmitz reports they're seeking agreement on a plan to end the war with Russia.
Rob Schmitz
Zelensky has made it clear his country is willing to compromise on certain issues, including giving up on hopes that Ukraine joins NATO. He said he'd be willing to consider that if Ukraine won, strong security guarantees from the United States to prevent Russia from invading again after a peace deal would be reached. Zelenskyy said Ukraine does not want to cede any territory it now controls. That was a suggestion made by the Trump administration. Sunday's meeting between Zelenskyy, Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Trump's son in law, Jared Kushner lasted five hours. There are still major gaps between the latest American and Ukrainian plans to try and end the war, though, and there's no indication that Russian President Vladimir Putin will agree to any plan to end it. In California, police are expected to release more information today on the deaths of actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle. Their bodies were discovered inside their Los Angeles home yesterday. Steve Futterman reports.

Police spent the night here in the Brentwood area conducting interviews with neighbors and collecting evidence. LA Police Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton.

Our detectives will be responding along with our forensic science division and our technical investigation division investigators to conduct a full crime scene investigation.
Steve Futterman
Although police have not officially confirmed the deaths, Reiner's family has. Police say they are not seeking a suspect, which suggests detectives may have some idea who carried out the killings. Rob Reiner was a hugely popular figure in Hollywood, going back to his days on the iconic 1970s sitcom all in the Family. For NPR News, I'm Steve Fetterman in Los Angeles.

Police in Providence, Rhode island, are still looking for a suspect in Saturday's deadly shooting at Brown University. A person of interest had been detained, but Providence's mayor says an investigation found authorities had the wrong person. Two people were killed in the Brown University shooting over the weekend. Nine other people were wounded. The attack came as students were taking a final exam. This is npr. It's raining again today on waterlogged Washington State. The heavy rain has triggered significant flooding and some evacuations. Some parts of Washington State will get rain for most of this week in much of the Midwest, the Mid Atlantic and the South. Weather forecasters have posted cold weather advisories today. Wind chills along the coast and Gulf states could fall to as low as 10 degrees this morning. A California woman is celebrating the successful delivery of an incredibly rare full turn abdominal pregnancy. From member station laist, Kevin Tidmarsh explains.

Suzy Lopez discovered she was pregnant during a routine checkup for a large ovarian cyst that was slated to be removed. Soon after breaking the news to her husband, Lopez felt abdominal pain. They went to Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles, where doctors found the fetus had fully developed far outside of her uterus. After intensive monitoring and surgery, Lopez's baby was born with no major complications.
Suzy Lopez
I just appreciate everything, even if it's the baby crying, because that just means that his lungs work.
Kevin Tidmarsh
Lopez's doctors say this outcome may be unprecedented. For NPR News, I'm Kevin Tidmarsh.

Workers at the famed Louvre Museum in Paris have voted to strike. The museum is closed due to today's walkout. Workers are pointing to working conditions and are demanding renovations. The strike vote comes after thieves stole priceless gems in an October daylight robbery. A water leak this month damaged hundreds of ancient documents. The workers say this reveals structural problems. This is npr.
