So in the last few days, the Kremlin hasn't publicly weighed in on these peace negotiations, instead calling for more dialogue. Meanwhile, we have seen deadly military attacks by Russia against Ukraine over the holidays. Putin rejected a Christmas ceasefire offer from Zelensky. NPR's Lou Garrett. Two helicopters collided in New Jersey midday yesterday. Police say one pilot died, the other is hospitalized with life threatening injuries. NPR's Frank Langford has this update on the accident.
Frank Langford
The helicopters collided just before 11:30am near the Hamilton Municipal Airport between Philadelphia and Atlantic City. Visibility was good. Cell phone video showed one helicopter spinning as it fell into a wooded area bordering a field. Jeff Gazetti is a former aircraft accident investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board, or ntsb.

It appears that helicopter was hit on its tail because if you take out the tail rotor, the main rotor will cause the body of the helicopter to just turn round and round and round like a corkscrew.
Frank Langford
Gazetti says collisions like this are exceedingly rare. And NTSB investigators will seek out eyewitnesses who can describe how the helicopters managed to hit one another. Frank Lankford, NPR News.

As the year comes to a close, Republicans have an edge so far in the redistricting race set off by President Trump. He's aiming to help GOP chances of holding onto the U.S. house after next year's midterms. Houston Public Media's Andrew Schneider explains Trump.

Kicked off the mid decade redistricting effort this past summer by pressing Texas to redraw its its congressional map to help Republicans pick up five seats. California Governor Gavin Newsom then set a special election which approved a new map there that could shift five Republican held seats to the Democrats. Missouri and North Carolina then each redrew their maps to pick up one seat apiece for the gop. Meanwhile, a state law prompted Ohio to redistrict, picking up another two seats for the Republicans, while a court ordered Utah to redraw its map in such a way to help Democrats pick up a seat. The net effect nationwide is a possible gain of three seats for the. But Democratic led states. Virginia and Maryland, as well as Republican led Florida, are still considering redistricting in 2026. For NPR News, I'm Andrew Schneider in Houston.

Parents don't need to be AI experts. They just need to be curious about their children's lives and ask them about what kind of technology they're using and why.
