Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Dan Ronnan. Four House Republicans joined every Democrat Wednesday to pass for the first time a war powers resolution that would halt US Military action in Iran. House Speaker Mike Johnson tried to prevent an outcome that would show mounting opposition to the war. In Congress. Indiana Republican Congressman Merlin Stutzman was against the measure. He believes it will interfere with President Trump's efforts to keep Iran from attaining a nuclear weapon.
B
This is a very tough task that President Trump and Marco Rubio have negotiating with the irgc. They move the goalposts. They will tell lies. They'll tell, you know one thing and do another. And so it's very hard to negotiate with them.
A
Even if that war powers resolution gets to President Trump's desk, it's expected he would veto the legislation. President Trump is refusing to say his $1.8 billion anti weaponization fund is dead. It was meant to support Trump allies who say they were targeted by the government. But NPR's Franco Ordonez reports the lack of clarity is likely to fuel bipartisan concerns the fund could return.
C
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, the president was asked if the $1.8 billion compensation fund was dead or on hold. He said he was unsure and that he would have to ask attorneys.
D
The weaponization fund, as far as I'm concerned, was a beautiful thing. It was something I was, I didn't make it, but I was. I heard that. I thought that was the greatest thing.
C
Todd Blanch, the acting attorney general, told members of Congress this week, though, that the administration would not seek to resurrect the fund that could be used to pay taxpayer dollars to people convicted in the January 6 Capitol riot. The mixed messages are raising eyebrows on Capitol Hill, where Republicans have raised concerns about how voters would respond in the midter. Franco Ordonez, NPR News, the White House.

Ukrainian drone strikes on Russia's city of St. Petersburg came just hours before the start of a Marquee Economic Forum. NPR's Charles mainnes reports.
E
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky took to social media to say drones struck an oil terminal in a naval base in the outskirts of St. Petersburg. And in the city, residents woke to large bangs and a massive plume of smoke drifting over the horizon. The regional governor claimed Russian air defenses also destroyed some 60 drones in the surrounding airspace, prompting authorities to delay dozens of flights from St. Petersburg's main airport. The attack seemed timed to disrupt the start of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, an annual event President Putin has used to promote Russian economic might and continued global partnerships despite Western sanctions over his invasion of Ukraine. Game 1 of the NBA Finals goes to the New York Knicks. This is npr. A new agreement could pave the way for desalinated ocean water to help Western states survive the drought even far from the coast. From member station kjzz, Alex Hager reports. It could allow for people in California, Arizona and Nevada to benefit from the Pacific Ocean water.
F
San Diego County Water Authority Board Chair Nick Serrano says the new agreement would allow for an exchange. His agency would lean harder on that ocean water and other users in California, Arizona and Nevada could pay to take take some of San Diego's Colorado river water.
G
Because the challenge we face is regional and across state lines, the solutions must be that, too.
F
Water agencies in Arizona are scrambling to find new water supplies as they could face big cuts to the amount they can pull from the Colorado River. Drought and climate change are straining its supplies. Officials said this new agreement could give them a way to adapt that doesn't require the construction of any new pipes or canals. For NPR News, I'm Alex Hager.

In Phoenix, incumbent Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass advanced to the November general election. Bass will face Republican one time reality TV star Spencer Pratt. During the campaign, Bass said significant progress has been made to address homelessness in Los Angeles and the development of thousands of affordable housing units has been produced. Pratt has pledged to aggressively deal with that issue, as well as crime and drug use. He also criticized Bass reaction to the destructive 2025 wildfires that destroyed thousands of homes in Southern California. From Washington, this is NPR News.
