It's important that you send a clear signal to your brain as much as possible. Basically the brain, the brain's question right now is are these thoughts important? Is this necessary? And if one day you're like oh this is so important. This is so scary. I'm reacting so much. And then the next day it's like well, it's not important. And then the next day after that, oh, it is important. Your brain's like, where to, Captain? What are we going to do? So send a clear signal that no, this is no longer important, this is no longer necessary. I'm choosing to disregard it doesn't have to be 100% of the time but the more clear the signal is, the better. So the more times you say to your brain that this is not important, the better because if you're doing 50 50, it's not enough percentage wise to convince your brain that these thoughts are unnecessary. Episode Title: 🧠 Full OCD Recovery - How To Send Correct Signal To Your Brain
Host: Ali Greymond, OCD Specialist & Author
Date: February 14, 2026
In this episode, Ali Greymond discusses how to achieve full recovery from OCD by consistently sending a clear, unambiguous signal to your brain regarding obsessive thoughts. She emphasizes the importance of consistency in response, explaining how mixed messages maintain the disorder and how clarity aids in retraining the brain. Drawing on her extensive experience and her own personal recovery, Ali offers practical guidance for listeners struggling with various subtypes of OCD.
Clarity Over Ambivalence: Ali explains that the brain is always evaluating whether obsessive thoughts should be treated as important or not. Inconsistent responses (sometimes reacting with fear, sometimes dismissing) confuse the brain.
“If one day you’re like, ‘oh, this is so important. This is so scary. I’m reacting so much.’ And then the next day it’s like, ‘well, it’s not important.’ And then the next day after that, ‘oh, it is important.’ Your brain’s like, ‘where to, Captain? What are we going to do?’” (00:12)
Repetition and Percentage Matter: The more often you send the message that the thought is unimportant, the faster the brain will reclassify it as unnecessary.
“It doesn't have to be 100% of the time, but the more clear the signal is, the better. So the more times you say to your brain that this is not important, the better…” (00:35)
“If you're doing 50/50, it’s not enough percentage-wise to convince your brain that these thoughts are unnecessary.” (00:43)
Ali on Consistency:
“Send a clear signal that ‘no, this is no longer important, this is no longer necessary. I’m choosing to disregard.’” (00:29)
Metaphor for Brain Confusion:
“Your brain’s like, ‘where to, Captain? What are we going to do?’” (00:18)
This metaphor highlights the confusion caused by inconsistent reactions.
Tone and Style:
Ali maintains a practical, encouraging tone, cutting through confusion with relatable metaphors (“where to, Captain?”) and clear, actionable advice.
