But I think toward the end, you as well as Bobby and some others I trust, felt like, I think the, the phrase you said was it's Indiana until he says it ain't.

Yeah, yeah, that's kind of where I was at, you know, on any of the prediction stuff or kind of looking. I do fun with percentages type thing added at 57, 43 in that area, 59, 41 in that area code. So look, I mean, I, I, somebody asked on the chat. This is the thing I want to say. Chris GB 2000 says, is the sales pitch over? Does this go to December? I've been told that Texas will continue to recruit sales. So look, I, Texas doesn't generally give up on their top guys. You know, Facato will get, it will get calls from Texas. Right. I mean, we've seen all this before DJ Jacobs committed to Ohio State in contact with Texas. So there's, there's going to be a few guys where Texas are going to stay on because they, they value those guys that much. Honorful Ave Johnson, the safety of the usc. If something happens with the usc, if it's not the situation he likes anymore, if Lincoln Riley gets shown the Malibu door, I mean, you know, you never know what happens. So there's going to be a select few guys that Texas will hang around the rim on and see what happens. And Sales will be one of those. And I'm not saying they're going to call him tomorrow and start engaging him then, but there's going to become a point in time during the season. The, the communication will open up again.

I don't think so. Look, I think that, I think the thought was, okay, you gotta, you know, you're in a battle to keep Eastern Royal. You really like Bryson Thor, you really like what Kyron Brown showed you to get the offer. So I think Sales was over here. Kind of like Texas wasn't sure until the OV how if they had a real shot. Okay. Oh, we have a real shot. So he became part of that group at that point in time because the moment in the campus. So I think they'll, I think they'll just continue to chip away fight for Eastern Royal do the same thing with sales and see where it all takes them. But I, I'm not going to say never because coaching changes happen. Right. Things happen in recruiting. But I, I think right now I'd be surprised if they went to another high school wide receiver.

By the way, his first workout with the team, Spears Jr. Was Thursday. It was aggressive from the start, which is exactly what you want to see. No 17 year old 3 month timidness at all. That guy went right in and competed from the first time he got on the court. But that's Marcus Spears Jr. I'll have more on that tomorrow here on otf.com on the site. But yeah, Beckham Black, the point guard, the younger brother of Anthony Black for the Orlando Magic was a lottery pick out of Duncanville High, went to Arkansas and then into the NBA. Beckham Black will make his ov. We broke that news Tuesday. I think he'll make his OV to Texas for the Ohio State game. He will not be the only Matt was all originally Marcus Spears OV date too before enrolling early and committing, getting his academic work done to where he could go that one had been in the works for a while. So I think Justin Wise, the shooting guard out of Georgia, out of the Peach State's possibility that weekend as well.

Wobbington is the big center out of the Phoenix Sunny Slope. It'll be interesting to see what Texas does do they what they do with that big man spot because you know, you have Marcus Spears two years and the chances are either one of vocatitis or punch will be back. I mean, like all five of your starters aren't going to go in the NBA draft. It's not going to work out that way. So a lot's going to come down that they take Wobblington, I think, but a lot's going to come down to one, can they get him away from Arizona? But two, then do they as this thing gets closer to November and they're in the practice a little bit and they've been through summer workouts and NBA scouts are coming through and they're kind of looking at things. Do they plan more for Portal if modest, if modest goes pro so they get a impact player or do they go high school?

since his senior, since senior spring track season and he was 238 and he's 2, 457 to 260 right now. So he's 20 pounds. Rod, what do you think is a receiver? I think, I think he's had a drop or two. There were low balls in the spring showcase. Right or below his kneecaps, Right? Yeah. Catch. You want to see a guy go to the ground and make instead of trying to catch it on the move all the time. Look, I, I think, I think Nick Townsend, the more he's involved, the better he's gonna get. And that's just where I, I don't think hands are an issue with him necessarily. I think getting comfortable as more of a true tight end is, is still part of his growth process. But I'll be surprised if hands are an issue for him.

Yeah, I agree with that. And I'll be interested to see how he carries that extra armor, that extra mass. Because he, he moves so well for, for a big man. I don't want him to start lumbering that way and I don't think he is because, you know, shout out to the strength and conditioning staff. They do a really good job of adding really good weight and mass to guys. You probably had your best. You might be, it's possible you have your kind of best combination of physical blocking tight ends. Right. I agree with Massunas and Nick Townsend, but to the point of the question for coach guys like, hey, yeah, we, I think we know that those are some, some things that everybody's really positive about, optimistic about. But how's he looking as a receiver? I think what will help him this year is that you have so many weapons that Sark can almost, you know, use those guys as, you know, fifth sixth options in the offense and design really cool concepts. When he knows the defense is going to be taking away Coleman Wingo and focus on the other weapons, you can really do some creative, sneaky things with your tight ends. So who's going to be the number one pass receiving threat at tight end is interesting because it's been a very lopsided target share in Sark's tenure here. Whoever that number one titan is as a receiver, Sark pretty much builds all of his tight end past concepts around that player. The others, the other tight end usually doesn't see a lot of target share. Right. That was the case when JT was here and then was that other guy, Gunner Helm came up. It was him then, you know, since then I'm even obviously last year with injuries, you know, you didn't see much of the other tight end, whoever that other tight end may be. So it's going to be interesting to see who, if it's Masonas or it's Nick Townsend. And I know they like the athleticism of Townsend. He gives him a lot of options. Put him up as an H bag. Put him in fullback row. Line them up, you know, in line. Put it. Put them out in the. In the slot as well. So we'll see. I. I like Nick Townsend though, man. He's got some freaky rod.

I was gonna say, I think this is the best year in the Sark era to be an unknown tight end going into the year as a. A unknown tight end or somebody that doesn't have to be game planned for. Yeah, because of what you just said. You got Cam, you got Ryan, you got Mosley, you got the two backs who came in. Right. And it's a part. And the backs are going to be used more in the passing game this year. It is the perfect season for a tight end to come in under the radar because you're going to have opportunities, you're going to have some matchups that this Sark's really going to like. Great year to come in as a tight end. That is not part of the defensive game plan.

Yeah, I feel like that was the case in almost in 2024 with Gunner Helm. Yeah, you had golden and when Bond was. He had golden and Bond and you know, you had the running backs you used in the passing game a lot with Blue and. And Wisner and almost felt like at times teams were by default, they would just, hey, we're gonna leave Gunner Helm to whoever our linebacker is or our third or fourth best defensive back. And he ate. So maybe it'll be that case too. I can't wait to see how much targets. How many targets. How much target share the tight end position gets this season with all the weapons they have. If he is the difference in the Texas season, truly, if he is on the offensive side of the ball, if he had a big game at College Station that would rip the hearts out one more time. Former former A M commit at a high school until he flipped Auburn. There could be some fun with that later in the year. I'm just gonna throw that out there.

Because just like you right now, it's one of those kind of. It's one of those road kind of signs on the path on the road to the season starting. Like, it's one of those landmarks where you're like, oh, no. SC media days means there's so many, like less like a month basically, before the season gets ready to start. Right close to it. So I think that's why it's always a lot of excitement from every fan base during the media days, especially if you got some drama. Not a lot of drama right now. Usually there's more drama, but I guarantee around that time, Ole Miss, LSU's got a lot of drama going on. Texas has been involved with a lot of drama this offseason, too, but I don't think it's overrated. I think it's pretty good.

No, I. Look, I would say this the thing, the thing the SEC media days does for me now, years into this business, it really gets my juices flowing for football. You know, look, we've been in the B. You played it. We've been in the business a long time. The longer you're in the business, the closer to the season, where you get really excited about a season. You feel like the off seasons are a little longer the longer you've been in the business. SEC media days gets me going. I will Say that the last two years it's really got me going as far as what's going to be, what could come out of this. Look, I'm not trying to be an ass here. I'm really not. But the whole Joey McGuire Soresby thing and I was hard on Joey and I, and I, and I think I was justified in it. What he said as a coach about Brandon Sorsby and was getting behind him playing the one thing. I kind of wonder if it's going to happen and I kind of hope it does happen. I hope there's one reporter that's doing a story that asks every single head coach with what would they do different in that situation? I think everybody needs to be on record because it's going to happen again in college athletics. So what happens if it's your guy? How would you have handled things? I, I don't think it'll be asked, but I kind of hope it is. So everybody is, is on record because part of it, part of the thing that hurt that situation is, is look, Joey's paid really well to be the head head football coach at Texas Tech. That doesn't mean he's the boss. And I think you know that if he had spoken out, if he had been asked about that two or three years before in a what if scenario, I'm guessing his answer wouldn't have been what transpired. So I think if the all these guys are on the record, I actually think that would help them long term so they don't get boxed in.

Look, I think. I think with him at Mosley, it's because he's. He's been injured both of his years in college, and he is really, really good if he's healthy. And right now he looks really, really good to the point of in the building. They're saying some really singing, some high praise for Mosley this season. I think the whole keys. He's got to stay healthy. You know, I think all. Everybody was at the Spring Showcase and they watched Jermaine Bishop move around the football field and say, that looked really different. That looked different than anything else we might have seen that day, how easy and effortless that was. But obviously, starting the season, Emmett Mosley is going to be ahead of Jermaine Bishop. And Jermaine Bishop, I've. One thing I've said about him is once he. He's one of those guys that once he gets a few reps and he makes that first big play or two, then it becomes hard to keep the guy off the field. Right. Because he just has an electric gear ability, and I'm not sure anybody else really has in that the way he does it. Right wingo has his. You throw him the screen, man, and block. You get one block and off he goes. And he looks amazing running down the sideline at 6:2,210 bishop is. When you're drawing flags on Grayson Littleton in the Spring Showcase and Grayson Littleton struggles to cover you, you're gonna. You're gonna come out of there and people are gonna have some high praise for you. So that one's interesting to me, Rod. You know, look, I look at. For this team, 2016 and 15 are so interested. We had three interior defensive linemen in the top 23 guys. And I can tell you the staff's really excited about Murad Watson if he can have a healthy season. And let's see. Let's see where that goes because he was so good as a freshman at Syracuse and he was just banged up the last half of the year. See, it'd be interesting to see where that goes.

Yeah. Because essentially you're gonna end up having. I'm assuming Condu is going to be in the top 10. I can't. Yeah, exactly. But. So that'll be. Yeah. You have four D tackles in the top 15. Sorry. Yeah. In your top 20. I mean four 20 tackles in your top 23 end up being what in your top 16 players. That's, you know, that's saying that's a really talented room. We haven't been talking about the talent and the upside of that room. We talk about the edges and how talented and deep they are on the edge. We've talked about receiver and I, I think this list actually is a, it shows you. And I'll go back and look at like the top 40 likes. I think the, the lower like 40 through 30 ranking. But I believe you had a couple of receivers that were also ranked in the like 40 through 20 ranking as well. So just showing how deep that wide receiver room is. We know Cam Colingo will be be among your top 10 players. Now you're saying you also got Jermaine Bishop and Mosley in that category and then you'll have some other guys. So that that wide receiver room is considered by, at least by us to be extremely deep and D tackle maybe a little bit deeper than most people realize if that group can reach its, its ceiling. And I think Rod Watson's a big part of that, as you said.

And for a lot of people on here, they're going to say number 19. Number 19, the right tackle. Siani did allow Brandon Baker to kick inside the right guard. How important he is to this team this year and how important that Baker that allowed that Baker the kick in the guard move could potentially be for this team this year. So it, I, I like this list. I mean look, there's a lot of people say hey, Jermaine Bishop shouldn't be that high. I think Jermaine Bishop's pretty special player. I'll say that. I think he's a pretty special player. I think he's gonna end up getting on the field. I've been saying around 500 all purpose yards this season is kind of what I'm projecting for him. We'll see if it.

Guys who are expected to make a major difference on this team. And how many of these guys you know, Ciani, Mosley, Watson, Jaffar, Smothers, Brown were all portal guys in the last two classes?

I also like the fact that both of the running backs there made it and I will say I did have Eminem and Mosley I think ahead of Jermaine Bishop in my rankings more out of respect than anything else. with Mosley just because the way the offense is structured now with all the weapons. But the Watson one can make sense too because you know I said you need more disruption on the interior. You only had 50 or so pressures from your D tackle position.

Yeah, and he's. He actually is pretty disruptive. You watch Watson, he's a pretty disruptive cat on the inside. So I could see that him just getting and being fresh because you'll have a now a true good rotation at D tackle. You got Kano, you your fridge, you'll have Watson, got Alex January, who knows about Terry and Sharma and some of the other youngsters. You may have a five to six man rotation. Remember that's where you were in what, 20, 22. I think Texas had that. You had like six NFL guys in your detail rotation. I wonder if they could, you know, be at least four to five, five deep. They're definitely 40, but five to six deep this season.

And in the run game, how much better does he make the linebacker, the downhill backer in the A gaps? Because Jafar, again, Jafridge has two. He's got to be double. So yeah, he makes a couple of guys jobs easier on this team. I think he's underrated how big of a recruit out of the portal he was. He wasn't going to get the fan fair. He wasn't going to be the highest ranked guy. But when you talk about bringing a scheme together, that guy's extremely important.

Yeah. Because you're gonna put them right there in that A gap. You didn't have any D tackle last year that had at least a hundred snaps in the A gap. None of your details were able to do it. You didn't have a true nose. Him being a true nose, he's gonna be. They're gonna put him right there, right? Probably zero technique. One technique right over that center. And like you said, nobody's gonna leave their center out to get mauled that way. That's just to collapse the pocket right from the center. So they're gonna give him some help. You're just gonna be that left guard, that right guard. And like you said, that should open things up tremendously for the linebackers on the second level. But also whoever that other three technique is, whether at in the. In the spring showcase, it was him and kanu, they're. They were there together. In what ways do you think Sock will utilize Arch's legs this year with defenses needing to account for all the weapons on the field? Love this question. First of all, I think Sark will allow him more. I, I don't know if he tried to, you know, advise him against scrambling last season because Sark usually isn't someone that embraces scrambling and scramble joke. He doesn't like, like chaos, right. He likes his offenses to be on schedule. He doesn't like the off schedule, the improvisation. That's not really something that Sark bakes into his offense or plans on. I think he's embracing it more, by the way, because of Arch's style. So he got something that was the most, the most effective play for you last year was actually the scramble throwing the scramble drill. You averaged over 10 yards per rush on the scrambles and you averaged over 10 yards per attempt on scramble drill throws. So Cirque has to embrace that. So I do wonder if he'll obviously, you know, want Arch to be responsible about the way he scrambles, but embrace that and encourage Arch to scramble when he, when it's safe and when he believes he's got green grass. Forcing teams to put a spy on Him. So I, I think scramble number one, let him scramble. All right? Be safe about it. Make good decisions, but let him scramble. And I think in a red zone, red zone. Big games, I can't say big games. And you got a lot of big games. You got, you know, you got Ohio State, you got Tennessee, you got Ole Miss, you got Oklahoma, you got A M. Lsu. So I think in some of those big games, you're going to need that added component of him being a threat with his legs in the red zone.

Yeah, I, I, My thoughts on this are the Mannings didn't send them the Texas to run 10 or 12 times a game. They didn't. They did not. That is not part of the plan. So I think that's the first thing to I. What I love about Arch's possibilities this season is it can be more element of surprise if the parts around him do the job they're supposed to.

That's where I think he's most dangerous. He's most dangerous when it's an element of surprise situation. Like, it's not that people aren't, look, if you're a defensive coordinator, Rod, and you're getting ready to play Texas, you aren't, you aren't going to sit there and say, oh, Sark's going to run this guy 10 or 12 times a game. Because they all know what we know. That's not what the Manning sent him to Texas to do. Go take head shots every game, running the football because he's a tough kid. He's, he has a hard time running out of bounds. He, he just does. He's a tough kid. It's not what the Manning sent him to do. I, I think Sark's in a great spot with him this year. To really bring the element of surprise with him or when you, when you have somebody off balance and they may he, you don't think they're expecting it because, oh, we have it going today. Cam's made these 50, 50 ball catches. Ryan Wingo turned the screen into a touchdown. Our outside zone run games looking really good. Boom. We're going to hit him with a quarterback draw when they're not expecting it. I think that's where, that's where I would love to see Arch used. I, I don't, I, I hate to go into a game say, okay, he's going to carry eight, nine or 10 times because that wasn't the plan when he came to Texas.
