Tell us where you're checking in from this morning, what you're drinking. Get those questions in. We're going to get to those here in a little bit. We got a lot to talk about as well, and we are 53 days away from kickoff, so we are inching closer and closer, obviously. Tell us who Your favorite number 53 is. We'll visit that later in the show, as we always do. But, guys, I thought we'd start with a little baseball news, because yesterday over on. On Texas football.com or last night, I guess, we announced that second baseman Ethan Mendoza will be returning to Texas. So great news for Sloss Nagel and his coaching staff. One thing to mention is that he is going to have to have surgery. So we don't know a. A full timeline on that and how that'll affect things going forward. But great news for the Longhorns as they get their second baseman back.

I was gonna say it shores up the infield, right, Blake? And now gives Texas a definitive kind of starting lineup as soon as Mendoza gets back to the lineup, depending on how long that that surgery takes to heal from. But long and short of it, Jim Schlossnagel got beat up a little bit by the Major League Baseball draft, but this may be the saving grace from it. Also, you gotta remember he's got two stalwart pitchers returning next year, and Dylan Valentis and Sam Cozart. So they, they've got, they've got guys, and now they've got their infield. They're waiting on one more, I believe, portal possibility, but we'll see where that goes. But overall, this was good news for the Longhorns, definitely.

And as far as the portal goes, because we've had a few people ask, they're most likely going to be done, uh, here pretty soon. So they had a couple of visitors on campus last week waiting on decisions from both of those, but gonna drop a big baseball update this Morning over on ontexfootball.com after we get done with the show.

But yeah. All right, well, we talked baseball. Let's talk a little recruiting. Because speaking of decisions, we're still waiting on decisions from a pair of Players.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Yeah. So, you know, obviously Monon Sales announces on July 17th. That's coming up on Friday. That's on the Pat McAfee Show. As expected. He was always going to commit on the Pat McAfee Show. He's an Indianapolis kid. No way. He was not going to be in studio to announce his decision on the McAfee Show. I think McAfee being on hiatus, may have even pushed back that announcement a few days because originally we had heard July 10 for an announcement date for him. So it's going to be this Friday, the 17th. Bobby, look, it's. I put a update on. On Texas football.com this morning on him and Landon Williams, C. There's not much on Williams Callis. I mean, there's just nothing. We've heard different on him that. Hey, Te. Texas feels good. I think that things are trending Texas for Williams Callis, but now it's waiting on a decision. So back to sales. I think it's gonna be very interesting, Bobby. I mean, look, everybody's had Indiana pegged as the school that would win this recruitment for a long time before OVs. Then he goes through the OV process. We know he had a great official. Not good. Great official visit to Texas by all accounts, him and his family. His agent even made that OV to Texas. So that tells you Texas is a serious player in this recruitment. I think there's. I think there's a couple things here, if you're Texas, that I. I think is. Look, I don't think an nil difference. Bobby's gonna. Is gonna win a recruitment or not win a recruitment. I think it's a competitive nil race. Right. I think the big thing from a Texas perspective is can you be part of continuing in this recruitment? I. That Sales has never really envisioned himself playing at Indiana, national championship or not. That kid did not grow up. Just a reality for Indiana. They know it, their fan knows it, fans know it, we know it. He didn't grow up dreaming of playing at Indiana wearing an Indiana football jersey. We've talked about that with. With some of these prospects that are highly, highly ranked. That's not how they're growing up. They're growing up. He was. His nickname was Bam. He's from Bama. The guy probably the guy grew up with. And look at his visits South. You know, it's South. It's three SEC schools. Alabama, lsu, Texas. We still believe this is an Indiana Texas decision. So can Indiana eventually. And they've been chipping away at it, trying to chip away at it. Bobby, get over that hurdle because that's still a hurdle in recruiting, whether Indiana won a national championship or not. The kid has never envisioned himself playing in the Indiana uniform. We've talked about this with Williams. Callous. He hasn't envisioned himself wearing an SMU or Houston uniform growing up. Those schools have to overcome that. Those are big hurdles even in the nil day and age. Look, Texas feels like they have a shot, Bobby. I'd say if there's a negative right now, that, that just doesn't mean he's told Indiana of his decision. He has not informed Texas of a decision as of yesterday afternoon. They just know that. Everybody knows that he's announcing on the 17th at 11:00am and, and to that

point, you and I both wrote something on this today, Jerry. I, I wrote that, you know, trying to guess where this young man's going to go is premature. I mean, and it doesn't just carry over to him. It's also, it deals with Easton Royal. Right? We saw some, some, I guess I don't, I don't want to call it ill informed, but it was certainly premature guesswork that he's going to do this or do that. What's going on with a lot of these guys right now is these are, this is coming down to where they want to go to school that likely have already made decisions in Sales's case, to Jerry's point, and just hasn't told anybody yet. With Royal, it's a little bit different. We think he's in decision mode of some, of some level because he's been torn by multiple factors related to his recruitment, whether it's the peer pressure to stay in state and go to lsu, whether it's to stick with his commitment to Texas or try someplace totally new like Florida. I think that as I sit back and look at it and wrote this morning, Jerry, I think we have a good read on this and the read is that we don't know for sure and that people that are saying they know for sure on Sales in Royal are probably. There's too much guesswork in that for me to say or lay claim to. I know which way this is going to or I have a feel for which way this is going at this time at least. And so I think in that regard those recruitments are still somewhat open and whether Sales has made up his mind yet or not or whether Royal is still debating, you know, we'll have to wait and see. But I think some folks are saying, oh well, this is going to happen or this might happen sometimes you just got to wait and see what occurs, you know, if the game has to be played, so to speak. Yeah.

Now, by the way, I love every time we play this highlight video and Sales is covering a kickoff. By the way, very physical football player. I think he's a complete wide receiver.

I like, I like the fact he's playing defense too.

Playing defense. Physical. He's going to be a physical blocker. I just think he's a tremendous, tremendous prospect. I did want to mention on recruiting before we move along, by the way, we have Robin Sinline coming up at 8:45. I don't know if we said that at the beginning of this show. Great player at Texas. Had had two sons that played at Texas national championship ring. It's going to be a cool conversation. I'm really looking forward to that. I want to add on one more thing on recruiting and just an update too. Marcus Spears Jr. Has enrolled at Texas. He was got his student ID yesterday. No word if he. He lost it or if Arch helped him find it yet, but he got his student ID yesterday. Now, when a new student athlete goes through all the medicals they have to to get cleared for workouts. He's expected to begin working out with the Texas team this week. I mentioned that because I'd start a question and, and it's important in recruiting. Nil and Rev share 27 Texas basketball recruiting Beck and Black, Wobbington out of Arizona and Wise out of Georgia. I will say this on Beck and Black, that commitment registered. Does that mean Texas is getting Beck and Black? No, Jerry's not saying that. OTF is not reporting that, but it did register. Look, Beckham Black's a Texas kid, too. He may go to Southeast Prep, play there in Orlando. Now, David Peavey's the coach is former, the former longtime coach at Duncanville who obviously is very, very connected to that family. Anthony Black plays for the Magic, but Beckham Black is a Texas kid and that commitment did register with him. And that's kind of some real positives for Texas basketball from a recruiting standpoint. Austin Goosby, I mean, Bo Ogden's a little different, but Austin Goosby stayed home. Marcus Spears Jr. Stayed home. Both went to Texas. Beckham Black notices that. Beckham Black that registers with him. Can Texas beat out Duke? I'm not saying that, but I will let let Texas fans know that commitment did register with him. Hey, somebody asked any more Spears kids out there? Daughter, I. She's middle school, I believe. I mean, Marcus senior said she may be the best athlete of the group which is pretty much scary at this point. I guess that means she'll be playing volleyball with her hips at the top of the net at this point. That's where we're headed for the next Spears athlete because that's pretty heady stuff when both have been the number one prospect in America in their sports.

Thank you, Bobby. Okay, well we've had, I've seen this mentioned in the chat, but yesterday CJ Vogel went down and checked out the progress on Texas Indoor facility guys and got a lot of pictures here. So I'm just going to go through them. And Bobby, I'm going to let you narrate as I, as I do. So.

Yeah, it's kind of got that spaceship look, you know, with the outer, outer edges almost. Those are angled at certain ways. Almost like the Moody is angled a little bit too. But the Moody's in black. This is in that sheet metal, kind of shiny sheet metal. The, the street level view you'll notice is like a red brick. There it is. Which is famous throughout the University of Texas campus. That sort of that color brick is used everywhere. One of the things I noticed is still called Denny's fields, by the way. The Denny's practice fields, which means that that's going to be a point. There's the look at one of the. If you go back one there, Blake, this is from the outdoor practice field, which we think is going to be more weight training. Maybe some other sports use it as well, that you get a view of the capital.

Can you imagine the photos and the video work the UT graphics department's gonna be able to do?

Unbelievable. They're going to have a lot of opportunities.

To do that. But that's gorgeous. C.J. was there on site. It Is getting close. There's a soft opening for some major donors late July. There's a bigger opening for others in early August. I think they'll start using it in a real fashion in mid August at this point is what I'm being told. They've got some small things to keep checklist. You know how that is. People that. That open up buildings. You got to continually run different things. But it's on. It's on target to get going before football season and is a beautiful facility. I actually drove by it myself yesterday as well.

A lot of people talk about PTSD and Longhorn syndrome in the 2000 and tens. You've got it from 2024 still with. I mean. Yeah, you'll say that anytime.

Well, up next, I thought we could look at some of the new coaches when it comes to the sec. Guys, we got a lot of new faces at new places here in the sec. And these are the coaches. These are the new coaches that Texas will face this season, including LSU's Lane Kiffin, who, as we all know, previously at Ole Miss. Then you have John Sumrall at Florida. Now, previous school is Tulane. Ryan Silverfield comes from Memphis, now at Arkansas. And then of course, Pete Golding, former defensive coordinator at Ole Miss. He's now the head coach. But I brought the offensive stats and the defensive. As far as what they allow per game, what they scored per game, I thought we could discuss it for a little bit.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Fellas, like, I love the graphic, first of all, because that really triggers Ole Miss fans. I mean, Lane in the Elaine in his oldest Saturday coaching gear on an LSU graphic picture. That is great work. That may be your best work yet. Tulane doesn't do anything for that base. But that, that Lane Kiffin pick is awesome on the LSU graphic. Yeah, I mean, look, all the attention is going to be, or the majority of the attention is going to be on Lane Kiffin this year. Bobby, obviously you have pressure at LLSU in year one. There's an expectation that comes with that. But I'm headed all the way to the right on Pete Golding. I think he's going to be the guy this season that's going to be judged the most for how season one goes for him because he got, yeah, he should be right. And he, you know, look, LSU got some, some really good players from Ole Miss. Ole Miss did a great job keeping, obviously getting the extra year for Jambliss, keeping key one, Lacey, a couple of key offensive linemen. They had some losses on that defense. One of them being Prince will down the lsu. So I, I, it's going to be interesting for, for Pete Golding, because, look, and I'm not saying anything's going to happen with his job status, but, you know, if LSU and Lane roll in there and win in September at Ole Miss, then Ole Miss fans are going to start really judging Pete Golding. That's part of it. And he's going to be judged, I think, more so on this first year than any of the other coaches. I just believe that.

[Bobby Burton]

Yeah, he's the one that doesn't get the grace period.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Yes.

[Bobby Burton]

Because he's got a quarterback that took them to the national semifinals last year, a running game with Kiwan Lacey. You mentioned he's the one that's, that's, everybody's pointing to, well, can you get back to the national semifinals? Can you actually even go further than that? Whereas the expectation level for Lane Kiffin at LSU is sky high. Right, right. But it, it's not, you know, they suspect at LSU that they're gonna spin their way to elite rosters from here until the cows come home. You know, in years and years to come. Ole Miss has historically not been that kind of program. Their opportunities are few and far between, historically. And so that puts more pressure and weight on the shoulders of Pete Golding. I, I agree with you. The interesting ones here, John Sumrall for me at Florida, you know, Florida get. He's going to get a little pass this year. Similar to Lane Kiffin, Jerry in that. Okay, well you're, you're just now taking over. You've got a new offense, you've got a new defense, you got a, a new quarterback, you get a pass. I think that that sets up well for him.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Yeah.

[Bobby Burton]

Doesn't mean that I think he's going to necessarily have a great team. A lot of people are picking Florida, by the way, if we, as we look through some of this stuff and, and go to SEC media days next week, a lot of people are picking Florida as a dark horse in the SEC race right now because they have the offensive and defensive lines. Yeah. Right or wrong. Right or wrong. I'm not. And they have the run game with Jaden Ball. They have the receivers and so they have the firepower. Can John Sumrall and his group put it all together in a year as far as Ryan Silverfield is concerned? I just don't. Look, I think Arkansas is, is Arkansas or Kentucky the most difficult job in the SEC right now? I think that's fair.

Yeah.

[Bobby Burton]

Which one? Because I think Vanderbilt right now is a better job than both.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Yes.

[Bobby Burton]

Because you have a big city to recruit to in Nashville and, and a profile that might fit an academically minded kid. Whereas Kentucky and Arkansas, what do you really have other than, you know, strong state universities, but not in major states and you don't.

[Jerry Hamilton]

And you don't produce enough SEC level talent in your state. From a recruiting perspective, Arkansas's a little. Been a little better there. But look, I mean the three toughest recruiting jobs when you, when you kind of put Vanderbilt over by themselves from an academic standpoint, the three toughest recruiting jobs in the sec. Bobby, I think everybody agrees with this. I number them however you want are Arkansas, Missouri and Kentucky. Drinkwitz is a really good football coach. That is a tough recruiting job. I'd said with Rod Nil may have saved Missouri in the sec because if you look at how they. Because where's their recruiting geography? You're not going to beat Oklahoma for the best guys in Kansas City area. You're not going to win those recruiting battles over the national powers. So the guys you have at Missouri are in a tough spot. Arkansas, I think from a recruiting standpoint, in the worst spot of all. To your point, Bobby, where are you going to go for your players? I mean, look with Tech, what Texas Tech's done with even what TCU getting to a national championship a few years ago, even though they lost a thousand to nothing, they still, those teams are tough for Arkansas to be on DFW area kids in recruiting, before you ever get to Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A and M, where are they going to go for their players? That is a really difficult football job because Kentucky, Bobby, has Cincinnati, Kentucky has Ohio close. And they've had some really good players from Ohio that weren't offered by the major universities there. Kentucky's in a better spot than Arkansas. Arkansas is a brutally tough recruiting job. Just brutally tough.

[Bobby Burton]

Yeah, Arkansas is tough because it's also tucked away in northwest corner of the state. Missouri, to your point, is north of St. Louis. I mean, I agree with you in, in that regard that it's a really tough gig. I think historically it's been Vanderbilt, though.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Oh, yeah.

[Bobby Burton]

But the academic profile in that in for that school. They've turned it a little bit, though, and now with nil, there's other aspects of it that actually are meaningful. To live in a bigger city, not, not unlike Austin compared to Little Rock or not Little Rock, but Fayetteville or Starkville or Oxford. And so I think that when you look at the whole, the totality of it, Jerry, I do believe that those teams are going to have problems. The other team, the reason I mentioned Kentucky in that category is because they also have a new coach coming up. Not only is Ryan Silverfield new at Arkansas, but obviously Will Stein taken over for Mark Stoops in Lexington. The thing that's going to be, I'm intrigued at with Kentucky is to see, you know, look, Mark Stoops had done a great job on defense typically, and offense was hit or miss. Well, Cutter Bowley transferred to Arizona State. That's the quarterback that gave Texas some fits right. For Kentucky last year. Now they're going to have the former Notre Dame backup starting for them, Kenny Minchi. I, I just don't know. And a lot of people are saying, oh well, Kentucky could be really good this year. I don't see it. And so I, I think Silverfield and Will Stein are. I, I just don't have high expectations for them. I do have some expectations to going back to our original conversation about Pete Golding because it's a rare opportunity for Ole Miss. It really is. And I mean, this could have been a two year run for Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss that Ole Miss has never seen before. Yeah.

[Jerry Hamilton]

For.

[Bobby Burton]

And not in my, not in my lifetime, at least. Yeah. I mean, I, I was born in 69, so I think they won a national championship in like 62 or something. But my, my point is it's a historical opportunity for Ole Miss.

[Jerry Hamilton]

So.

Yes, there are ginormous weights on his shoulder. Lsu, Lane Kiffin, he'll get a pass this year as long as he wins nine games, 10 games, John Sumrall. If he wins eight, they're like, oh, wow, we're back in a bowl game. So, I mean, those guys get passes. I don't think you expect much from Silverfield or Stein.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Matt. Yeah, look, I, I would say that if I had any advice for Will Stein, if things start going bad, I'd just say Mark Pope in a press conference and all, all the attention would be turned away from him. Say, hey, how's Mark Pope's practice going? If things start going bad, then, then nobody will ask. Nobody will be on his back at all. They'll just.

[Bobby Burton]

You gotta, you gotta remind people who even Mark Pope is.

He's the Tex.

Or the Kentucky basketball.

He's the embattled Kentucky basketball coach. I've never seen a guy more embattled on social media that actually made an NCAA tournament and won a game. That one. That's a tough gig. Kentucky basketball, I'm here to tell you. Hospital. They are.

Yes, it is a tough gig. I, I will just that Kentucky basketball, like, Texas is a fishbowl, right? Dallas Cowboys. Texas football is a fishbowl. Dallas Cowboys are a fishbowl. I mean Kentucky for the state that it is. Kentucky basketball is. I don't know. I don't know. It's not even a fishbowl. Is it like an aquarium?

It's equivalent to LSU football, right?

Yeah, well, no, it's, it's more than LSU football because at least they talk about politics. Yeah. In Kentucky, they don't talk about anything except basketball. Yeah. Their basketball. Yeah, no doubt.

I knew that when you had Lyle and Rock, Lyle and Austin, y' all were out in the Arizona, Arizona area. We're talking to Robin Senlein, former Texas Longhorn linebacker, All American War number 60. We're 53 days out. I actually contacted Robin last week to try to get him on on the number 60 day, but he was busy having his vacations as he's want to do these days. He is also the father of Austin and Lyle Synline, both of whom played at the University of Texas. Lyle won a national championship. Robin, welcome into the show.

I'm glad you're in Fredericksburg. I'm looking at that buck behind you. That is a big.

Hey, Robin, we wanted to talk talk to you a little bit about the number 60, if you don't mind, and what it meant to you to wear that number at the University of Texas.

[Robin Senlein]

Well, it was, I think my third number in about maybe as many days because I started out at center and after three practices at center I went to linebacker and we shuffled numbers and Coach Fuller and McWilliams kind of brought me in and said they were going to give me this number 60 that hadn't been worn since the real number 60 wore it and the pressure was on and but I appreciated it and I hope I did it a little bit of justice.

[Bobby Burton]

Robin, you're originally from Las Vegas, I think. I was reading your bio. Could you give folks a Little story about how you ended up at Texas. I mean, who recruited you? All that stuff back in the day.

[Robin Senlein]

I recruited Texas. I had been to a recruiting trip to Colorado and was flying home, and they happened to sit next to a girl I went to eight years of school with. Knew her well. She asked me what I was doing in Boulder, and I told her, and she goes, well, you have to go down the University of Texas and see it. And I think I'd been on four recruiting trips when they only. You could only go on five. And so I asked my coaches to call them, and. And they called, and there was no coach at the time. Coach Royal had just retired. And, well, my coaches sent films down to Coach Dabs, and they. They arranged a trip. And in that time period, Coach Acres got the job. And. And that was on. And I went down and I just fell in love with it and awfully glad I did. Best decision I've made in a long time.

What other schools did you even visit back in the day?

[Robin Senlein]

Oh, it was ucla, Washington, Nebraska, Texas. Texas was my fourth, and I just canceled any other options after that commitment for the conference while I was here.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Hey, Robin, It's. It's really. Thanks for joining the show, really. You got really close, I believe, national championship level team at Texas.

[Bobby Burton]

Right.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Y' all are very, very good teams or close. You know, y' all were building towards that.

[Robin Senlein]

Well, we lost Notre Dame for the championship.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Exactly. So then seeing Lyle win a national championship, how nervous were you that last drive as a former player? Because every parent. Former player we talked to said, being a parent's much worse. You're much more nervous sitting in the stands. Kind of take us through that. That your thoughts on watching Ly win that national championship and where you were sitting in the stands watching it all.

[Bobby Burton]

It.

[Robin Senlein]

It was just crazy. And I. One thing I do remember about that was, you know, I was extremely nervous because I didn't want to go through the downs that you experience after a loss of the national championship. Yeah. And after the game was over, Ani was sitting across the aisle, the steps from where we were, and I looked over at him, and he just looked over at me and gave him away.

[Bobby Burton]

Is that John Ani, the former quarterback at Texas? Yeah. That's awesome.

[Jerry Hamilton]

The.

[Bobby Burton]

I. I would. If it were my son, I was. I'd be saying, just don't screw up.

[Robin Senlein]

The snap's very good under pressure, too.

[Bobby Burton]

So, yeah, that's good stuff.

[Robin Senlein]

In the world, in him.

[Jerry Hamilton]

How much did he exceed your expectations? You watched him grow into A. A big time football recruit, how much does he actually go beyond what you thought he could in his career?

[Robin Senlein]

Not really.

[Jerry Hamilton]

It just.

[Robin Senlein]

I started out coaching him.

[Bobby Burton]

Right.

[Robin Senlein]

And was, you know, his first year, we were doing footwork drills and he was a big boy for, you know, the Pop Warner stuff and, and his feet were just phenomenal. And so he was a middle linebacker and a quarterback and a big. And a big one.

[Bobby Burton]

That's awesome. You talk about this and growing up and being a Longhorn and having two kids that, that attend the University of Texas and, and play for them. When you watch Texas football now, is, is there a little smile back on your face when you, when you watch them compared to some years in the last decade or so beforehand?

[Robin Senlein]

Well, certainly, I mean, I'm always proud of the Horns and I'll always be, you know, in their, in their court and. Well, that's our court, but I, I definitely am and taking pride in the way things are going these days and, and it looks like we're on the right track.

[Bobby Burton]

What did you think when Texas signed Arch Manning? I mean, that's a, that's a name that resonates. You played a long time in the NFL. That's a name that resonates with former NFL players.

[Robin Senlein]

Kinda. His career at Minnesota, where I was at.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Yep.

[Robin Senlein]

Well, I got to know Arch and just classy people. I think his wife's name is Elizabeth and they had, they had one of the boys with them and it wasn't Cooper because he was playing high school, so it must have been Eli that was the little guy that was with them. And he was just a pleasure to be around in a class act and so when they signed Archie, I knew what Texas was getting.

[Bobby Burton]

All right. You have a good one. Hook them Horns. Robin Senline. Good stuff, guys. I love bringing guys back that I watched playing when I was young. That's. That's kind of fun, man. Kind of.

Yeah. I can't. That is. And the reason I asked him that, it's like, it's like, can you imagine? You're a really good player, NFL draft pick, obviously, and you got really close to a national championship and the heartbreak you feel. And then get to see your watch your son get over the hump at the same school. That's got to Be so cool for him as a, as a, as a father, you know, you had the tough times when you didn't, when, when your team lost. But then to watch your son go to the same school you did and win it, that's pretty, that's a pretty cool life experience.

[Bobby Burton]

I also like this story about getting number 63 days into it. You think maybe David McWilliams and those guys understood what. And Leon Fuller understood what a good line linebacker looked like.

[Robin Senlein]

Yeah.

[Bobby Burton]

Three days into it. Oh yeah, you might, you might deserve this one. That's pretty strong.

[Jerry Hamilton]

That's. It's, it's also, it's also. You know, when you think about football 40 years ago, 50 years ago, it's amazing how many guys played offensive line and linebacker. You know, you would think ol DL but ol linebacker. How many guys have we talked to that said I started as an offensive lineman, then I moved to linebacker. I mean it's interesting when you think back football, 70s, 80s or growing up, even 60s, those two positions, offensive line linebacker was naturally you think O L D L but that's not really the case with a lot of guys. It was. They moved to linebacker or they played linebacker and offensive line, which is, is pretty interesting.

[Blake Monroe]

Well talked about the number 60, so we might as well look at 53 today since we're 53 days away from kickoff. We got a few options here and we finally have a current number on the roster. It's been a few days since we've had one, but Bill Acker is going to be the, the main headliner here for 53, the defensive tackle. And then we have Dwayne Miller, offensive guard. And then how about Jack Holbrook? We've been on a run of deep snappers here lately, it seems like, but he, he had 39 career games and quite a few accolades in the Big 12. And then our current number 53 guys is red shirt freshman defensive lineman Isaiah Coleman.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Isaiah, Isaiah Coleman, the smallest of the TR. The triplets at Texas at 292 pounds. His older, his twin brothers, I guess triplets. They are 355 and 340ish. So we talked about that in their recruitment. Talking to the Isaiah Coleman and those and, and them was so much fun doing the interviews with them about kind of growing up and joking about the grocery Bill. But look at Bobby. Bill Acker, really good, really good, good accomplished pass rusher.

[Bobby Burton]

Yeah, absolutely. One of a couple of defensive linemen that came out of Freer that graced the University of Texas. His brother was also a major League baseball pitcher. Not a lot of people realize that, but Freer was kind to Texas in the late 70s, actually. Very kind. Dwayne Miller played guard on the Whatever it takes tour of 1990, that team and is now a lawyer, I believe, in the Metroplex area.

[Blake Monroe]

Good little list there. And for the chat, y' all can weigh in and tell your favorite number three, and maybe you got somebody that's not on this list. So good stuff. I mean, they, you know, I think it's D line. Yeah. Because you, you can't afford not to have those guys. Yep. I mean, you know, you'll just get dog walked down the field if you don't have good defensive linemen. And so I, I think that's the, I've always, I've long thought that even before nil, by the way, because you just, they don't give up people. People give up on a wide receiver. They'll give up on a tight end or a quarterback even and say, oh, we'll go get another quarterback. I mean, you just have to. Because. But defensive line, they'll, they'll stay after those guys until they get told no. By the way, people are. Somebody asked in the chat who's the other defensive lineman from Freer, Texas? His name's Steve McMichael. He's in the hall of Fame. So that was the other defensive lineman I was talking about from freer in the 70s.

The, and the, the other positions probably corner, but I think D line's number one. That I agree. Especially in the SEC region. I mean, they're hot. Hotly contested recruitment to Bobby's point.

Blake, real quick before we get to the win loss totals. What Bobby was we were talking about the position that's most likely to flip if you just look at Texas defensive line depth chart right now. Obviously Colton Vosick was an OU commitment. Jamarin Carlton was a Baylor commitment. Josiah Sharma was an Oregon commitment. Justice Terry was a USC commitment. Myron Charles was committed to the FSU at one point. I mean half the guys on the list. Yeah, close to half the guys in a 3D were once committed to another school and ended up At Texas and then Texas lost them as well.

Yeah, I, I think that that's been that way forever. Yeah, because it's like I said, if you can't stop people up front, especially a school, by the way, especially a school like Texas that has, that is a blue blood and they want to compete for national championships. If you're trying to compete for a national championship, good luck doing that with a C minus defensive front. You ain't gonna do it.

All right, let's see here. We talked about the new coaches, so let's look at win totals for those coaches and others. And guys, Georgia and Texas are both leading the pack here. They're projected at nine and a half, followed by Alabama, LSU and A&M at eight and a half. Then we have Ole Miss, OU, Tennessee, Florida at seven and a half, Missouri, Auburn, South Carolina at six and a half. Then it's Slim Pickens, Vandy at five and a half, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Arkansas at four and a half. But what I find interesting, fellas, is when you look at that over under, you can really see which way Vegas is leaning on those. And right now they have, you know, Texas under is from that, from the

-125 with, with Georgia significantly over. Yeah, get plus money money going on right now for Georgia have to have the over. Which makes sense. I mean, look, they have a little bit easier schedule than Texas. I think people are just now getting on board with the difficulty of the Texas schedule. Furthermore, I don't think, I think people also understand that Texas is playing Ohio State. Right. So not only does Texas have a difficult SEC schedule, they have Ohio State. Heck, guys, I saw a list. Jerry, I don't know if I showed this to you or not. I saw a list on Friday of this past week that showed the top ten non power four conference quarterbacks. The top ten. You know, Texas plays two of the top three. Yeah, and Brad Jackson at Texas State who was ranked number one on that list. And then Owen McCown who was ranked number three out of UTSA. Add add in Julian saying for your out of conference quarterbacks that you play, that's pretty heady stuff. But look, I, I can understand why Vegas is where they're at on Texas at nine and a half. At the same time, I, I, I'm, I'm ready for the season to start because I think the Longhorns have it in them. And you know, I'm not one of those guys that says anything's ever guaranteed. And so I don't think this season is guaranteed. I Am however a big believer in Steve Sarkeesian in this football team heading into 2026. The, the personnel they have is as good as they've had top to bottom in a long long time period is

if you look at this Bobby, what's the sure over bet chat? Who was your over bet? I look at Missouri and say Eli Drinkwitz was quarterback injuries away last year from winning 10 plus games three years in a row. Do we really think Missouri's gonna win six games this year? Would you take the under on that? I, I don't know. I think that's a pretty good bet to take the over on Missouri.

[Bobby Burton]

If I were betting manned I would pick Oklahoma on the over and I know they have a whale of a schedule, a really difficult schedule. Not unlike Texas in some ways but look they, they have a better team this year than they had last year. There's no question in my mind they do. And I think they're going to have a strong defense. I think Matier should be better and turn the ball over less. At the very least I think that if I were looking at that list on the far on the left hand side, I would pick Oklahoma and maybe Georgia if you want to be honest. Those would be my two picks on the left. On the right I, I would pick the under on South Carolina. I think that would be. You know I don't know who they have non conference other than Clemson but if you think they're going to win four conference games even with Lenora Sellers returning I, I just don't know what to tell you. Shane Beamer hasn't gotten it done yet over there and I don't understand why this year would be any different.

I think Tennessee's interesting because look the over and under are Both the same. Minus 115.

[Bobby Burton]

They, they that that really quarterback's gonna be.

Yeah, they just really have no clue about Tennessee is what that says.

[Bobby Burton]

Well no, they, they, they figure they're going to have a good defense so that they, they have personnel on defense and I think that that's. So how does their offense come along and when does it come along? You know Texas gets them fairly early in the schedule when their quarterback, whoever it may be, is going to still be relatively young into into his campaign. Whether it's the red shirt freshman or the true freshman they start, they go out there with.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Yeah I think, I think Oklahoma is so interesting because you know what this doesn't take into account obviously before a season is what a team mindset is. So which way that team mindset goes Oklahoma. Like I think Texas, Ohio State, I think it's a must win game for Texas. I think at Michigan's a must win game for Oklahoma same weekend. Because if Oklahoma loses to Michigan and then they lose to Georgia two weeks after, between the hedges, what's the mindset of that team gonna be like? Where are they gonna be at in their belief if they start the season two and two? I mean, you have no room for air. You have no margin for error the rest of the season. So I think Oklahoma faces for their playoff hopes maybe the biggest must win game early in the season of any team in the sec because the schedule is not forgiving. And if you drop the Michigan game on the road and then you drop the Georgia game two weeks after it, good luck getting in the playoffs with what's left on your schedule. So what's always interesting about that is you can't factor in the mindset of a team based on early season wins, losses and how that can affect your team the rest of the season. I think Oklahoma is in a very interesting spot because they, they can't lose that Michigan game because they go to Georgia two weeks later than the rest are scheduled. They have to win that game. It's a must win game on the road in Ann Arbor and they should win it, but it's still a must win.

[Bobby Burton]

I think they're going to win it and I don't, I don't give much pause for consideration on that game. I mean, look, Michigan have a hard time moving the football. They just are Michigan's offense, you gotta remember Texas was hamstrung on defense during that bowl game last year. And what, how many people opted out on defense? You know, I, I'm a, I, I, I think, I'm not a, Y' all know I don't like ou, so I'm not, I'm not saying anything y' all don't know already, but I think they have a really good football team this year. Now, they got by the skin of their teeth a lot of games last year. A couple balls bounced the right way, couple key turnovers. But when you have a good defense, those things tend to go your way, actually. And I think they have a really good defense.

[Jerry Hamilton]

I'll say this, it'll be a good measuring stick for Oklahoma. Bobby. Because the one thing with Kyle Whittingham, Oklahoma's gonna have to go up there and physically beat them. It's not going to be fluke plays and quick possession scores. I mean, look, Michigan's got, Michigan's Offensive line. Two of those guys. Texas tried desperately to get really fits Kyle Whittingham. The running backs really fit Kyle Whittingham. Defensively, they. They got. Trey Pierce is a kid that Texas. Bo Davis loved him out of high school. They couldn't even. They couldn't get Texas, couldn't get him because he committed to Michigan so early, even the visit. But that kid's really good and you know, at. The kid from Texas is going to be a draft pick. John Henry Daly first, second round guy transfers into Michigan. Oklahoma is gonna have to win that game physically in the big house. There is no doubt in my mind. Michigan's problem is back foot Bryce until.

Well, they're there.

[Bobby Burton]

I'll just say this. I know it's only been a couple years since Jim Harbaugh has been gone, but Oklahoma will be decidedly more physical than. Than Michigan. They were last year as well. I mean, Michigan. Oklahoma was more physical than Michigan a year ago. Why wouldn't they be again this year when I think they're actually going to have a better defense? So I'm not, I'm not.

[Jerry Hamilton]

My only pushback would be. That program was a disaster. And Kyle Whittingham's a different demanding type of coach.

[Bobby Burton]

They were still only one year away from having Harbaugh, though. I, I look, I'm a big fan of Kyle Whittingham, so I understand what you're saying. It's his first year.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Yeah.

You know, it's hard to instill change in the first 60 days or the first, you know, 180 days. Whatever it is.

What position is always undervalued in recruiting rankings?

Highest miss rate is a tie between quarterback and offensive line. By numbers, it's probably offensive line. I think it's the latest to develop position. Latest physically to develop position. But I think quarterback has the highest miss rate as far as expectations on player.

[Bobby Burton]

Oh, by.

[Jerry Hamilton]

I mean, look, not even close.

[Bobby Burton]

How many highly ranked quarterbacks have come out and been absolute duds. Yeah. And not dudes. Duds.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Yeah.

[Bobby Burton]

And I. You know, I don't. So I'm not trying to pick on anybody in particular there, but it feels like that. That is. You know, Sark says it all the time. He says quarterback's most important position in football. And so what it does is the position itself. When the guy doesn't live up to expectations, the results are amplified, and so you feel them even more heavily than you felt previously at another position, perhaps. Overall, though, to Jerry's point, young offensive linemen in high school, and they are hit or miss, you just don't know how their. Their body's going to develop over three or four years. I mean, you're. You're really looking at a raw piece of clay that you gotta. He's gonna be molded over three or four years. Yes, there are. There are guys that I would say are. It's the best way to put it. Anomalies. There are Kelvin Banks, but those are few and far between. The majority are made over two, three, four years.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Yeah.

[Bobby Burton]

And so I think that. That Jerry's right. What was the last part of that question, Blake, if you don't mind?

[Blake Monroe]

It was what position is always undervalued in recruiting rankings?

[Jerry Hamilton]

Tight end.

[Bobby Burton]

Tight end is definitely. I agree with Jerry on that. I would say defensive backs, generally, the only defensive backs that ever get rated high are ones that they're not all

[Jerry Hamilton]

NFL combine, cookie cutter mold, corner.

[Bobby Burton]

Yeah. And that's not necessarily what really makes it. I mean, I've always felt like. Like running backs, with all due respect to any running back out there, are overrated in high school football rankings because they have such an outsized impact on the game. Yeah, they don't necessarily, as football gets over older, those running backs don't always have the outsized impact on the game unless they're truly, you know, a great one. And I think that. So I think dbs, from a number perspective, if I were to look in the top 200 players in the country right now on Any list, whether it's 24, 7 or on 3 or ESPN. I bet there's not enough defensive backs on the top 200 list and there's too many running backs based on an NFL draft.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Yeah. Hey, I want to dig in on quarterback on this because I think it's a great question a little bit. And I want to go through my growth and years in this business and one of the things that I think is so rarely talked about about a quarterback prospect is, you know, going out in front of 2,000, 4,000, 18, 20,000 if you're in one of the big football states in Georgia, playing in the Dome or Tech or Texas. Right in Jerry Jones world, maybe a select game in a CA in California. But it's so different being a quarterback in high school to then signing with a major university and being handed the ball and there's a hundred thousand people in the stands and now with nil people know what you're getting paid on top of it. The pressure that comes with that is unlike any anything else in football and that all guys aren't built for that. They can be Bobby, they can be really talented on Friday nights in high school. And I go back to this story, it happened to me and I'm not going to name the players, some people will know it, but I went to see highly ranked quarterback one day and then I went to see a guy that was off the radar the next day and I literally walked up to highly rated quarterback and he gave me a dead fish handshake and looked at the ground when I introduced myself to him. And I said at that point that guy can't take a ball in front of a hundred thousand with the pressure of a blue blood university in my opinion and go be an alpha quarterback the next day I went to see a guy who was off the radar, didn't have many offers. He broke my hand when he shook it and said thank you for being here. And I and it was like I was talking to like the most confident guy in the world and he had two or three offers at the time and he ended up being a tremendous player. And when you dig in on quarterbacks, man, there's been a lot of guys that are really good on Friday nights. But then when you get to that next level you have all that pressure on you, it's totally different. And not all guys are, not all humans are built for that. The expectations, the pressure that comes with that. You see a lot of guys end up being isolate themselves in that pressure situation. And that's what I think causes a lot of crumble. So you gotta have really good people around you. And that is why I'm going to continue to say and like being proud of a guy from a distance that you're not related to or don't really know well, Arch Manning last year, because, man, you think about the pressure he was under and you think about, would you, you sit alone by yourself after a UTEP game and what you have to do mentally to get up off the mat at a major university like Texas and then go get, deliver, get better. The intestinal fortitude, the mental toughness, the belief in yourself when it's going really rough for you based on unrealistic expectations or your own expectations. Takes a certain guy to handle all that pressure at a major university. And that's the thing with Arch that I thought was most impressive last year. He had to get up off the mat after utep. I mean, he really did. And kudos and congrats to him for being, having great intestinal fortitude and mental toughness because that could have knocked some people down for the count.

[Bobby Burton]

Bobby? Yeah, you're, you're talking about a lot of the mental makeup stuff. I agree with all, almost everything you said verbatim. I think that as I've done this for 30 plus years now, and watching high school players become college players, college players, some of them becoming NFL players at the quarterback position. I think that when I was younger, I did not put enough emphasis on watching a player play under duress.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Yeah.

[Bobby Burton]

And how they reacted to it. And maybe that's to your point. If they're less, you know, look you in the eye, shake your hand kind of guys, they're more likely to fold under that pressure or under that duress and not know what to do because they don't know how to react to the pressure. But as I've gotten older, maybe about five to 10 years into this business, you just started seeing guys that when a rush was in their face, they either threw it and bailed or they worked around it.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Yep.

[Bobby Burton]

And you know, I'll be honest, one of the guys that really opened my eyes to this, it was a. There was a debate at one time between who was better, a young man named Matthew Stafford out of Highland park or a young man named Mitch Mustaine out of Springdale, Arkansas. And I watched both of them play a high school football game. And Mustang was really athletic, had a strong arm, was put in a position to succeed, I thought, whereas Matthew Stafford was all of it. And he could throw off platform, he would Sidestep someone and I'll, I'll never forget having an argument. I don't know if you were in that. You may have been me and you may have been working together at that time, Jerry. And one guy's like, I'm rolling with Mitch Mustang. I was like, okay, you do that. Yeah, but I'm not. So I think that it was how guys like that handle pressure. Like. And pressure is not the right word. Duress is the right one. How does Arch handle a free blitzer? Because they're coming in the NFL. They're coming football being it.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Isadore Newman helped him in that regard because he played under duress every Friday. He was not on the most talented team.

[Bobby Burton]

Yeah. And some, in some ways you look at Quinn ers, that was maybe his issue, his biggest issue because he never had to play truly under a lot of duress and he had to get accustomed to it. Right.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Garrett Gilbert in high school.

Yeah.

I mean he had to grow in that regard in a big way.

[Bobby Burton]

Yeah. And I'm not saying they can't grow.

[Jerry Hamilton]

Right.

[Bobby Burton]

Because I thought, I thought Quinn certainly did over his time at Texas it and into the NFL. Now, my point being, if you look at guys, you look at a. Pat Mahomes reacts tremendously well to pressure and duress. Brock Purdy, what separates, what makes him. He looks like a mechanical quarterback that maybe may not be able to break a, break a pane of glass with a deep ball or with a, with a throw, but has his team didn't play. It's because he's, he, he reacts well under duress.

Typically. And that's the quality or trait, in my opinion, that separates the Friday night stars from the Saturday afternoon ones to the Sunday night one or the Sunday date. I, I just, I'll, I'll, I'll believe that and have believed that for the last 20 years.

[Jerry Hamilton]

100 agree. And you know, if you look sometimes the quarterbacks that play in a shotgun system and throw their first read 99% of the time and they're very well coached, well schemed, talented enough teams can really fool you because they don't play under duress or doesn't mean they can't make it, but it's going to take them time. Here's a really good question, J. Dobbs, because this is a great topic. Why did Stafford choose George out of Highland Park? His father and Mark Rick were very, very good friends from when they both coached at Florida State. From what I remember, Bobby, I'm pretty sure that is the story there because I think Stafford's dad was a swim coach and then him and Mark Rick were very tight back from their days coaching at FSU together.

Not no. I'm not putting I'm not putting out a high even if there was one for a while because it'd be too obvious who one or two of them would be. So I'm not going to do that to the kids. Even if there is one that absolutely should be done. I'm not doing that right now. Probably the next one I'll probably next one we'll do is somebody during the season if Texas comes in on a 27 or 28. But I'm look, even if I knew 100% was ready to do it and knew it obviously that means when a kid tells the school he's going there, I'm not going to do that to be too obvious who it is not doing it.

Let me ask you this, Jerry. You think it's a, a reception number, a yardage number or a TD number? I think it's a reception slash TD number. I don't think it's a yard number.

Yeah, I think for Texas, it's a TD number. For the NFL it's yak yards after catch. Something he has not done in his college career that he'll have a chance to do at Texas. I think for the Texas season. Touchdowns, I think, because he's going to be bracketed.

So if he goes out how many?

Yeah, but for his NFL draft status, it's yards after catch. They know what he can do on 50, 50 balls. They know he's a great athlete. They know what he is. What's his yak gonna look like this year at Texas?

I'm just thinking, you know, Texas did not like. I'm. I'm just looking at Parker Livingstone and DeAndre Moore, wide receivers. Last year, Livingston had six TDs, Moore had four. They've got to replace 10. Texas has to replace 10. I, I think, I think 12 is a fair number for, for Coleman on TDs. Fair is not the right word, but I think it's a productive one. And then I think also receptions matter. Take. Take the NFL out of it. I think it's more that 55/range that that means he's been a big enough portion of the offense to to have an impact, so TDs and receptions are the big ones for me.
