Jerry Day hand. Jerry Hamilton, day one of practice for the Texas Longhorns. I'm Bobby Burton. This is on Texas Football, brought to you by Price Fix. Jerry. It was hot out there. Some guys that first day of practice that got him, including newcomer John Meredith. He was already, you know, needed some extra water.
Jerry Hamilton
Khali Clockett, somebody told him where to go puke before his first practice. All guys go to the same area. And John definitely had his moment.
Bobby Burton
He hit the fence.
Jerry Hamilton
He went to the fence pretty early.
Bobby Burton
But hey, here's the deal. It was really, really hot out there first day of practice. But I thought, overall this looks like a team that we saw a lot in the spring, Jerry. They still look really, really talented. There's been some reshaping of the bodies from a couple of players. I'm going to mention one right out of the bat. Brandon Baker, look, I know went from having just like a little bit of baby fat almost. Now he's well defined. There's a reason why some people have pegged him to be an early round draft pick eventually. You could actually see that a little bit today, how his body is just almost transforming over the summer. But there was a lot of guys out there. Jordan Coleman looking really good.
Jerry Hamilton
Jaden Chapman, his brother, Devin Coleman.
Bobby Burton
Yeah, Devin Coleman looked good. We'll. We'll talk a little bit about the offensive line as we watch this video. Here's one to Ryan Wingo from Arch here. But the, the thought process. Right. That I had going into this is really looking for what guys we're going to look like coming out of this, this, this deal. I looked at the offensive line, Jerry, and that was a big question mark going into this season. I'm telling you now, the offensive line. Jaden Chapman's probably gained 20 good pounds.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
In my opinion, looks much heavier. Looks ready to play on the interior of an offensive line. Lawrence Seymour was out there.
Jerry Hamilton
Why third team third.
Bobby Burton
He's running 13 wide body. Your initial. Just some initial takes, Jerry, and then we'll talk a little bit more about that offensive line.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah, I thought Justice Terry looked really good physically. Jonah Williams was not limited in his movement at all. I mean, he's coming off the shoulder. You wouldn't expect him to be. But I, I really kind of looked for that. We're going to talk about secondary. We'll get into that a little bit. But Kobe Black was only at safety during our viewing window, which is note and fil me was at nickel like we had refers to report on both those things at. During the media window. He was at nickel as well, like we had reported. But I thought, you know, I. One thing I thought was interesting today before practice even started, you know, we always talk about, hey, who's the first guy to arrive? Who's the first guy to arrive? Everybody rose the buses together outside, the specialists who, who get there early. So specialists who always get there early. But there wasn't anybody walking alone to the practice field. All the players rode together, which. That's minor thing but a different thing on this team. And I, I thought the guys, I. They looked like they were going to have a spirited workout as you could with the water intake involved today.
Bobby Burton
It's hot.
Jerry Hamilton
Somebody's getting water.
Bobby Burton
I mean just no two ways about it. It's extraordinarily hot. I, I will also add this. Ryan Wingo was the first player, by
Jerry Hamilton
the way, John Meredith's first rep there. You saw we're in zero.
Bobby Burton
Yep. Number zero. What I was going to say there is. Look, we've got a lot of things to discuss. Let's go real quickly about Arch Manning, K.J. lacy. I thought those two looked just fine. There were not a lot of drop balls in the regular session. There were a couple that hit the ground and there may have been missed throws by Arch as much as anything. But by and large, I thought the offense and the, the throwing Session of this that we're watching now was pretty impressive overall.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah, no, no doubt. I thought. I thought their wide receivers is good to see Lockett out there. I thought Lockett looked confident coming off his minor injury. You know, obviously when they started some of the work out there, Emmett Mosley was running twos behind McCutcheon. But before the media windows, I think he was running one and that's because he was hurt in the spring. So some of those things you'd expect to see but arch physically and he told CJ and about that at Manning Passing Academy how he got up to 235 and did not like it and he was back down to the low 220 today. I thought the running backs look good physically. I. I will tell you who the rowdiest in a good way guy was off the bus was Derek Cooper. Yeah, he has that South Florida running back kind of personality. There he is right there. Looks great physically. By the way, KJ Lacy was really. It was against air throwing on the move on the far end of the field on the two or three reps. But he's just. He's Sartre talked about they're seeing the best of. They've seen a K.J. lacy. He's just more confident since then. He's ever been at Texas. He knows he can do this. There's Will Muschamp getting after guys on special teams. He really got after some guys in the in some of the early secondary work we saw like sometimes say it's the bark is bigger than the bite is bigger. The bark is bigger than the bite. That's not true with much much champ.
Commercial Announcer
They're both big.
Bobby Burton
The bark.
Jerry Hamilton
The bark is the bite. The bark is the bite. And people are wounded if they don't do things correctly.
Bobby Burton
I'll say that I look very talented. Overall roster, let's go back and kind of talk about a couple of things. Key things. Let's start with the injuries. Yahim Riley did not work out.
Jerry Hamilton
Full full knee brace, heavy knee brace on the left. That does not look good for him.
Bobby Burton
Yeah, but we'll see what that means. There's no official note or anything like that. This is just what was open to regular media windows. And then also Elijah Ali, the newcomer from California, defensive lineman as well as Smoke Smoke Matthews went into the tent and away from the regular workout. We're not sure what's going on there. We'll have an update. We'll see. Maybe Steve Sarkeesian will tell us a little later this afternoon when we meet with him momentarily as well. But Jerry, I I was probably, I'm just going to pick one position group. Yeah, I was probably most impressed, pleasantly impressed with that offensive line. I just thought they, they had a look. They just look better. I mean I'm just going to tell you physically they look more like what a SEC offensive line is supposed to look like. Trevor Goosby he doesn't look like a million bucks. He looks like several million. Probably top 15 traffic. But the transformation of of Brandon Baker. Melvin Ciani looked good. Connor Robertson looked good, Jackson Christian looked good. Jordan Coleman, Andre Kojo is back now. John Tay Newman maybe one of the biggest players on the team.
Jerry Hamilton
He's one of the best looking guys coming off the bus on the team. Yeah and by the way Bobby mentioned it not on here but we're going to mention it now. Nick Robertson movement skills are just really high level. We kind of talked about that coming out. He had a really good Under Armour All America game. You could see his quickness of feet which leads to quickness of body and quickness of reactions. The guy that worked at both center and played some center his senior year in high school was playing right guard third team today. I'm guessing he'll get some center reps at some point during fall camp. But he looked really quick and he looks like he's probably dropped 15, 20 pounds because those kids get big after their senior year if they stay in high school. So he looked more like his senior year weight versus probably where he was coming into this summer.
Bobby Burton
I I loved I sent the group text was Nick Robertson's a keeper or number 72 is a keeper because he had if he didn't have the quickest feet he had some of the quickest feet at off on the offensive line yet he still had that big humongous size I think that everybody would talk about look the other pieces of this other aspects. I thought the defensive front although we didn't get to see them work out that much because they're on that far field. My God they are impressive physically. I mean just big humans but athletic.
Jerry Hamilton
I had to do this to see who was next to in Jafridge at times because he is so big you kind of have to do one of these to see who else is around him. But Alex January easily looks the best he has physically which he should. He's going in the year three. Right. This is a you should think Murad Watson looks good. Marad Watson obviously looks good. Colin Simmons was off doing pass rush moves by himself for a while. I mean he's got bubble wrap on him, but he could be work. You know, one of those, those big balls that people roll downhill on. You know, they, they could put Colin Simmons in one of those. I can't think of what they're called, called right now, but he was out there working on past moves by his, by himself. Cisco Diaz asked, what's the energy look like? Energy was good for first practice, as it should be.
Bobby Burton
Yep. That defensive line, just to go back to it a little bit, they were actually wearing. Almost like a couple of them were wearing what looked like clubs.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
But it's got to be a new kind of apparatus that they're trying on because several of them were wearing around their hands. I don't know if it's a new kind of equipment or something. I haven't seen that many people use it, but it looked like six or seven of them were wearing it. I'm not going to waste, I'm not going to ask Steve Sarcasian that during our press conference availability, but I'm sure we'll find out. Yeah, that's this new kind of pad or something people are wearing.
Jerry Hamilton
And one thing I want to be clear on is in our media window there was no contact. Player to player, contact. So somebody said in here Lawrence Seymour was moving people. There wasn't any, there wasn't any offense versus defense, anything like that. There's some drill work is what we saw today, to be clear. So if somebody's out, this guy was moving people. Well, the offense and defense didn't match up in the media window at all. So there wasn't offensive defense contact at all, right?
Bobby Burton
No, there was not any, not, not any contact. But there was a lot of mirroring, I guess is the best way to put it. Other spots, the running backs, Jerry. Wow, they got some guys that can catch the ball and that can scoot. Hollywood Smothers and Relique Brown can move. They are quick and they are fat. Just outright fast. Not just quick. Derek Cooper, you mentioned him earlier, look good. Michael Terry was running four string ahead of James Simon, Jet Walker. I tell you what, he might look like he's going to get some work on special teams. He was doing the, the special teams drill particularly well.
Jerry Hamilton
I saw, I saw Kosik, Paula and Rocky Cummings on some special team work as well. Kosi Paul looks great physically. Like tremendous physically. Rocky Cummings is gonna, he'll add another 15, 20 pounds, I think in the future because his lower body is starting to catch up with his upper body, I think. And it's still got a ways to go to catch up. He was so strong in his upper body coming out of high school, but he looks like he can add a good 10 15.

Bobby Burton
What did you think of the. The running backs in particular, though? We were talking a little bit about them. Smothers Brown and Derek Cooper. You mentioned Cooper.
Jerry Hamilton
Some, yeah. Cooper looked really good physically to me. I don't know. I don't know what exactly how much he weighs based on, you know, look, I'm looking at it right now, and they said 212. I mean, anywhere from 210 to 215.
Bobby Burton
I'm guessing probably 205 after today's practice.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah, these guys are gonna. Don't weigh them tonight. Don't weigh them tonight. There's gonna be nothing that they puked or have no water weight left. But you look. I, I thought, I thought he looked great physically. And again, that guy's an energy player. Like I saw it in high school, he's that energy type of player. Whether he's playing running back, whether he's playing linebacker, he's. He's a guy who brings constant energy to a team, to a field. He's. They call him energy givers. Derek Cooper's an energy giver. That's what I'll tell you about wide receiver group.
Bobby Burton
Emmett Mosley was in and out with the first team, and I think that's because he's coming off of not. Not practicing in spring. Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo were both out there doing well. We saw that one really nice catch of Cam Cole Coleman from March Manning over the shoulder at the back of the end zone. There were a number of players there. I thought his hands. I thought Ryan Wingo's hands look good. Then we saw Jermaine Bishop, Dalen McCutcheon, who got some first team reps in place of Emmett Mosley as he's coming back. Kalique Lockett, I thought, looked really good. Yeah, I was wondering how he would look coming off of that injury. You know, Sterling Burkhalter is an older guy. That kind of profiles A little bit like Kalique Lockett. But I saw something from Kaliq Lockett today that tells me long term he's better than Burkhalter. He's. He's more than just a possession type receiver. I saw. I saw Kalique Lockett a different Kali Clockett today than I saw in last year's spring practice. He's more springy. Looked like he had a little bit more speed to him.
Jerry Hamilton
Gotten stronger.
Bobby Burton
He's gotten stronger because he was tall
Jerry Hamilton
and very wiry coming out of high school. He was a young senior.
Bobby Burton
It still is wiry.
Jerry Hamilton
Still wiry, but he's just stronger. Look to him right now. I mean, he looked like what you saw John Meredith look like today is
Bobby Burton
what K. That's, that's a really good
Jerry Hamilton
comparison out of high school. And, and so now you're two years into it and he's gained 15, 17 pounds and he's looking stronger on a wiry frame.
Bobby Burton
Yep. Couple other news and notes on the offense I mentioned Arch Manning running with the ones obviously KJ Lacy, two Diabell and MJ Morris, flip, flop, flip flop with the threes. They were both taking reps there. That's going to do it on the offense. For right now. Let's talk about the defense. We talked a little bit about that defensive front. You also talked a little bit about the linebackers and we talked some about the secondary. Let's start with the secondary. And you mentioned at the outset that Kobe Black worked entirely at safety. We had been reporting that you'd actually broken that news that he had been working almost exclusively at safety today during the reps that we saw. That's all he did.
Jerry Hamilton
That's right.
Bobby Burton
Was work at safety. Xavier fils me, was working at nickel. They had some nickel work. He was absolutely working there, as was Grayson Littleton. It's very interesting when they break into corners and safeties. Kobe Black went with safeties. Xavier Phils, I mean, went with safeties, but Grayson Littleton went with the corners. And so even though he's a Nick.
Jerry Hamilton
That's right.
Bobby Burton
They're cross training him at corn. Yeah, I noticed that.
Jerry Hamilton
And. And Phil to me is gonna. Is. Is gonna be only. Only nickel and probably somewhere in the safety room. But we were told that Texas really wanted to concentrate on nickel with Xavier. Fils me they. Because will must champs played bigger nickels in the past. And I Grayson Littleton's a starter. I'm not saying anything like, but I think that could give them two pretty good options. And I'm not counting Wardell Mac out. But what I am saying is Fils got more size on on him at nickel than anybody else in Mus. Champ. There's going to be a time in place if Filsy does his work here in August. For Filsy me to play at nickel run heavy teams. Right. I mean teams where they're going to need that ultimate physicality. And the question is that we don't know the answer. Too off to see his camp moves along. Will Littleton work at all at corner? Because he does. Like you said, Bobby goes over with the corners in drill work while Filsy stays with the nickel safety group.
Bobby Burton
Yeah, I, I want to add this. I got a chance to watch Bo Masco a little bit today and. And keyed in on him. He is a technician, but he's all any. You know, he reminds me just a little of. I'm not saying it's the same player. The same. His build reminds you a little of Quandary Diggs. He looks a little bit like a bowling ball, but he's super quick, very heady and strong.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
You know, naturally you can see a natural strength and then he actually has that outright speed on top of it. It's an interesting guy there because I could see him not necessarily playing corner in the NFL, but Nick Nickel in the NFL.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
Because he's. He's kind of physical.
Jerry Hamilton
I think he. Again, Grayson little tremendous player. I think Bo Masco, if Texas was had a number of corners, would be competing with Grayson at nickel. Yeah, if Texas had a lot of depth coming back at corner, I think Masco might be competing with Nickel with. With Littleton at nickel.
Bobby Burton
Another thing I want to say about Grayson, Littleton, there are. They're smooth and then there's. What do they call it? Cooler than the other side of the pillow. He's that kind of athlete.
Jerry Hamilton
He looks like a wide receiver doing DB drills. Just like he's just. Movement skills are so fluid and that's what he looked like to me out there. Somebody asked about Cade Phillips. One thing they were really concentrating on early in the drills was right here. You're seeing this and you can't really hear what they're talking about. No drop balls. I mean, it's no drop balls. And the coach there was whipping that ball. I mean, I was sitting there watching him and he was ripping the ball as hard as he could. And those guys are expected to have no drops. Just in a little drill like that. No drops. They wanted zero drops. They harped on it multiple times.
Bobby Burton
They want the Ball as defenders. That was John Meredith, by the way. Number zero. Michael Massunas was number 15. Catching the pass there, Jerry. Other pieces to talk about. I guess from the defensive side you started talking about Rocky Cummings, all of the. The linebackers. This was something new. Last year one or two linebackers would have the green dot in every practice. This year not a single linebacker came out with their helmet. Yeah, they all had helmet communication or at least most of them had helmet communication, including some of the freshmen. Tyler Atkinson did. We saw him. And so that was. That was a move apparently by the Texas staff behind the scenes to try to get those guys on the same page that I thought that among the things that I saw of the linebackers was one of the most interesting.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah. It also means that's not decided.
Bobby Burton
Right.
Jerry Hamilton
That's something to be decided by the staff. The other thing I noticed is Rasheed Biles is the first team pump. Did you notice?
Bobby Burton
I did not see that.
Jerry Hamilton
I thought that was. You know, some guys are just playmakers, Bobby. Some guys are just playmakers.
Bobby Burton
Get them on the field.
Jerry Hamilton
You know, Aaron Williams was on all kickbox teams at Tech back in the day. Yeah, some guys are just have a knack for getting a hand on a ball. Just understanding timing and the feel of it all and just being natural playmakers. But I it boy, it looked like Bows is going to be involved in punt walk at some level this year.
Bobby Burton
We did not see punt walk kick much.
Jerry Hamilton
I think they took it inside.
Bobby Burton
Yeah, yeah, they. They may have taken it inside. So kickers have.
Jerry Hamilton
The kickers have the best life. I mean not it's 130 degrees outside. They go into the bubble where it's only 85. I probably had pitching wedges in there too.
Bobby Burton
They'll be really happy when they move to the new facility. This was still up at Dennis Fields, by the way. We reported earlier this morning that they are going to practice for all of this training camp at Dennis Fields outdoors to try to get accommodated or accustomed.
Jerry Hamilton
Excuse me.
Bobby Burton
To the heat. The new facility will. Its grand opening will actually be as of right now the likelihood is the week of the very first game against Texas State. So keep that in mind. Jerry, a couple of the young guys that you saw out there today on the defensive line. Richard Wesley and Jamari and Carlton. I thought there's. They. They were impressive in the spring and they were no less impressive here today. I. I thought physically there is no telling where those are both true fresh. There is no telling what their bodies will look like if they just keep after it in two or three years. I mean, I mean they look, they, they have the right makeup.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah. Let's just put it. I mean Richard Wesley is going to live as a 6 4, 265, 270 pound player in the future. Maybe get up in the low 270s. Jamarin Carlton, I think he's going to have a body like Alfred Collins. Collins, he's going to be a 300. Charles Omenahue, I mean there's no, they're not going to be able to keep him at 275, 280. I don't think there's. I was just looking what they're listing him at right now. 65280 with that frame Bobby, there's no way he's going to stay 280. He's going to, he's going to be
Bobby Burton
a 300 pound player and long limbed.
Commercial Announcer
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
I mean my goodness. I thought that was impressive. You mentioned Alex January. We talked about Murad Watson and how he looked this year. One of the guys that we had not seen before but was a late pickup by the Longhorns was Brinley Teda.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
Out of the Summer Creek up in Humboldt playing for Kenny Harrison there. He was a good looking player.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
For a little undersized but physically really, really well put together. He's going to maximize though. You can tell he was one of those guys that was quick to every drill.
Jerry Hamilton
So very productive player. Somebody keep an eye on if he sticks with the process here. Texas long term.
Bobby Burton
Yeah.
Jerry Hamilton
Not saying he's going to be a starter or anything but the guy who. Guys like that tend to find a way to contribute or kind of go above what you think when you recruit.
Bobby Burton
I tell you what, I tried to get a photo of this but I couldn't. But near the end of the viewing window and you and I were standing together at the same time and there was seven across of the Texas defensive front and literally they, they looked. Every single one of them looked the part. Yeah. You and I said man, that would have been a great picture.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah. But we were, we were.
Bobby Burton
Our phones weren't up ready to take it. But every single one of those dudes look like an NFL type.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah, yeah.
Bobby Burton
Look, I love Xena and Lance Jackson
Jerry Hamilton
were part of that. I mean look, Smith Rugbo, they have a true SEC looking defensive free run.
Bobby Burton
Yeah.
Jerry Hamilton
There's no doubt about it. First through third team type. I mean like Josiah Sharma continues to look so athletic for his size. You just need some time to keep developing. Myron Charles looks tremendous physically. Just needs to be patient and keep developing. But this, this defensive front for Texas has that SEC look in depth now. And now I still think there's room for somebody to be a disruptor, a difference maker on the interior from.
Bobby Burton
That's where Justice Terry comes in.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah, I mean, but I think playing the run, this, the guys we saw, plus Kenny Baker's coaching this team is a high level SEC team playing the run. And I think with Will Muschamp's aggression in and how he is going to. How he's going to scheme for those guys, I think we're going to see them have a lot of success with the caveat that somebody needs to come through and be that disruptor on the interior.
Bobby Burton
I do want to say this. So under Steve Sarkeesian, we've gotten accustomed or used to how they do different drills and where they do them. Okay, that has changed and I say that under Steve Sarkeesian, but it was really the defense under Pete Kwitkowski. They have changed a couple of drills up. So they were new to us and Muschamp was leading a couple of those new drills actually with the safeties in with the corner. So. But Blake Gideon, I do want to add this. Somebody asked the other day if Blake Gideon was helping with special teams. Yes. Yeah, he is coaching the heck out of the Gunners.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah, him and Chris Jackson coach that position in special teams. So both those guys were very active in special teams. And Muschamp was kind of there, kind of on the other side of those guys monitoring as well.
Bobby Burton
Right. Did you. Somebody's asking did we see any. Mark, any.
Jerry Hamilton
I did.
Bobby Burton
Stoops.
Jerry Hamilton
I did. I actually put two photos on. On Texas Football.com our practice thread. I put some photos of players. Mark Stoops was there talking to Blake Gideon. So yes, he was out on the field today. A couple of Houston Texans scouts were there today watching D line quarterbacks.
Bobby Burton
So how high do they draft for Colin Simmons? I just wanna.
Jerry Hamilton
I think that's why Colin Simmons is off to his side doing pass rush moves so they could like evaluate him from 30 yards away. They didn't have any video cameras out because they're NFL guys. They don't need that.
Bobby Burton
You know. As we, as we wrap this up, your thoughts on the overall look of the team? I mean, look, they've been to this. This program under Steve Sarkeesian has looked the part for three or four years now. Yeah, I mean they really have since 2023. This program has looked the part now some place, some positions like last year, I would say the offensive line didn't necessarily look as good as you wanted it to. But what are your overall thought? Is there, is there a position that you're sitting there saying, oh, that doesn't look right. Like, I don't know that I see that right now. I don't, I don't see one that sticks out like a sore thumb or anything like that.
Jerry Hamilton
No, I think I look. One thing, and I put this, I reported this this summer, is they really like the young offensive line kids at Texas. That's Jordan Coleman, Jackson Christian, Devin Coleman. I mean, really like those guys. Jackson Christian, Yeah, those guys are getting bigger physically. They're starting. I mean, Jordan Coleman, I mean, he almost had to get smaller physically. Devin Coleman just kind of always, you always change your body. But I thought the second team offensive line guys looked like they've grown into being an SEC looking, offensive line type of player. So that's the one thing I noticed. It was good to see Andre Kojo back on the field at backup right tackle. He was ahead of Jonte Newman. Obviously. We talked about Lawrence Seymour. As you know, we said he'd probably start off third team because he wasn't there in the spring. He is the shortest of the offensive lineman. No doubt. He's built like a square, right?
Bobby Burton
Yeah. Just like that's what Lawrence Seymour is.
Jerry Hamilton
He looks, he looks a square. But, you know, I, I will say this. I, I talked to somebody around the program about him last night and the word is he's looked really good as a run blocker from what they're seeing. So just somebody asked about that in the chat the other day. I wanted to pass that along. He's impressed. Somebody asked about John Turntine, 13 left tackle. 13 left tackle. Texas really likes him. Obviously he's up. He's 295 plus in that area. Somebody asked me, tell me no one got injured. We did see two guys, Bobby, go up in the tent for people that are just are joining us. That was Smoke Matthews and who was the other?
Bobby Burton
Elijah Ali.
Jerry Hamilton
Elijah Ali.
Bobby Burton
But now we're not saying they were cancer.
Jerry Hamilton
They're injured. Yeah. I mean, look, I mean, it could
Bobby Burton
be dehydration or overheating. I mean, look.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
There was more than one guy that, that lost some water.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah. Yeah. And by the way, we got to say we had a freshman moment today. After about 3, 4 reps, John Meredith went over and found the wall and let his whole lunch out over there. But he jumped back in.
Bobby Burton
I don't know if he Let his lunch out or just some water.
Jerry Hamilton
I mean, whatever was left.
Bobby Burton
Yeah, it was. Whatever was hot.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah. Yeah. It's funny. It's almost like he knew where to go. Other guys, like, tell you if you get sick, you go to this area of the field. Because I've seen other guys go right about in that same spot. It's like the dog, you know, they keep going to the same place to pee. It's like all that's like these guys have a place to go to puke. It's crazy. If you're a db, they all go to the same exact spot, man. It's like they're all using the same tree, like the dog in the neighborhood. But John had his freshman moment today. But in John's defense, he hasn't really been working out much. He's been fighting his eligibility. Right. I mean, it's not like he's been working out with the football team all summer like a lot of kids.
Bobby Burton
He just got here a week ago.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah. And so he went working out with North Crowley this summer. He wasn't allowed to. So he has. He's been doing drills with his great db. Coach, coach Florida, Light up in Dallas, but even took some time off of that. So he's a guy that, you know, he had his freshman moment, But Bobby, I mean, he's moved so smooth. He's such a smooth mover out there. He really is.
Bobby Burton
Yeah. I want to mention go back to the offensive line. As we were closing that up, one thing that we had reported earlier today did come true. Cole Hudson is not back with the team yet and on the practice field. So we had reported that that's probably going to come after his August 10th hearing. So somewhere around the 11th or 12th, we might see be the first sighting of Cole Hudson back on the field if that temporary injunction is withheld. All right, other pieces. Before we let people go, I want to. I need to say thank you to our friends over at Prize Picks. They have been our sponsor, big sponsor this year. You know, we're always looking for ways to make watching games a little more fun. And that's exactly why we love Prize Picks. It's America's number one sports pick app. And honestly, it's about as simple as it gets for player picks. All you do is choose more or less on a few player stats and lock in your lineup. That's it. And if you're someone who likes picking teams instead of individual players, Price Picks has you covered there, too. You can now pick the winner, the spread, or the total on games and even fights. Price Picks is available in most states, including Texas, California and Florida. So chances are you can jump in today. And one of our favorite features is that you can follow users on the app. If you like the picks they're making, you can tail them with one click and you can follow your friends picks too. Here's the best part. If you've never tried Prize Picks before, play your first $5 in lineup. And if you win, you'll get 150 in bonus lineups. Just make sure you use code HMA when you sign up. They actually just updated this offer, so there's never been a better time to get started. Download the Prize Picks app today. Use code HMA, play that first $5 lineup, and if you win, you'll get $150 in bonus lineups. That's prize picks, code HMA. Good luck. And as always, play smart. Play responsibly. Play Prize Picks. Hey, Jerry, another thing that we were talking about here, that, that I think is important as we, as we close this up. I felt like the receivers, the quarterbacks, they all. I was wanting a. A high energy practice. I was wanting the pep in the step today. I thought I saw that. Granted, it's really hard. Yeah, I. It's so hot. I will also add this that we didn't mention at the outset. Every year Sark has one guy that goes to the center of the field to start the workout. Who was that guy this year, Jerry? You and I both saw it. No, it was not geography.
Jerry Hamilton
It was Arch Manning.
Bobby Burton
It was Arch Manning, indeed. Wanted to mention that before we let y' all go. Also a couple of. Or have one at least. Super chat here from wine guards. How come you're not doing the show at the new office? Also, if Muschamp didn't come back to D.C. as Texas, would they have made the move? And who would be the hire? Not sure on who the move would have been. That's that. That was unbelievable. The reason we're not doing at the office, we wanted to get going as quickly as possible to get you guys the news straight from the practice field. They're still practicing right across the street right now and they will be until for another 30 minutes. Then we'll get Steve Sarkeesian around 5:00 and at that, after that 5:00 clock interview, we'll come back to you and talk to you guys some more. All right, Jerry, anything, final news or notes before we get going? Somebody's asking about Derrick Williams.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah, how did. Who. How'd that second safety position. Look, I think Kobe Black is out there pretty quickly with that group, I'll say that. And I think what's going to be interesting about that second safety, from what I was told, that is a true coverage spot. And that's why Kobe Black was there today, because I think Kobe Black may be the best coverage safety at this point at that spot or somebody who's going to play safety. He only worked at safety day. So Derrick Williams now has competition because Kobe Black, a starting corner in this in the spring showcase, moves the safety in the coverage position at safety. So we'll see long term where that goes. But Derrick Williams, Jonah Williams is back full speed. Obviously, he's going to be full speed. He just had shoulder surge, but look good physically. But that competition is going to be one of the more intriguing ones of this fall camp because they move this potential starting corner, that safety spot, and that's a coverage position. So right away, the guys who are already there are facing somebody who's better in coverage than they are.
Bobby Burton
I will say this. I did like what I saw from Derrick Williams today. I think that he looked clean. I mean, his movement looked more fluid. There was no hitch in his giddy up at this point. And he and Jelani McDonald were the first two safeties. Kobe Black along with along with Jonah Williams and Xavier Filamy, came out with the second group. They ran Filame, as in nickel, in that group.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
All right, that's going to do it for this post practice first. Post practice. We'll be back again tomorrow. We'll also have some more footage from practice. That was just a little taste of what we got. Matthew, our producer, has some more stuff lined up for you later today as well as tomorrow. Jerry, any final words before we say goodbye here at day one?
Jerry Hamilton
No. I mean, no. Hydrate. I'm talking to myself. It was very, very hot.
Bobby Burton
All right, guys. You guys, we'll see you again soon. For Jerry Hamilton and our producer, Matt Hutchedon, I'm Bobby Burton. You guys have a good one. Day one. Hook them.
