Blake Monroe
Foreign. Welcome to Coffee and Football, presented by Von Lane. I'm your host, Blake Monroe, where I'm joined daily by Bobby Burton and Jerry Hamilton. As always, tell us where you're checking in from, what you're drinking. Get those questions in. We're going to get to those a little bit. We got a lot to talk about and we are 51 days away from kickoff, so be sure to tell us who Your favorite number 51 is. We'll come back, visit that later in the show like we always do. But first we need to talk a little recruiting. Jerry.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah, well, we're going to start with the number one recruit in the country that had his first workout at Texas. So people, a photo of this real quick. And then we're going to get to the football because when. So you have a number one recruiting on campus and now Marcus Spears Jr did go through his first workout, not team workout, yesterday. It's about a 48 hours for all the medical that new athletes have to go through. But there's your first look at Marcus Spears. It's on the Texas men's basketball Instagram page. There's about five or six photos that I, I brought this photo up, guys, because it reminded me of like Tiger woods chip at 16 in the Masters house. How often is the Longhorn perfect for a photo? Bobby, look at the Longhorn. Like it's just centered perfectly for the photo. Like when Tiger Woods.
Bobby Burton
Oh, on the ball. On the ball.
Jerry Hamilton
Yes, the ball. The Longhorn on the basketball. Like the, like the, when Tiger chipped it in and then it, it just rolled right over the cup. And that was the best advertising for that. Golf ball manufacturer in a ever but look at the Longhorn perfectly so centered on the basketball. That's your first look at Marcus Spears. It'll be interesting to see how his his frame looks at about the 1st of October, late September. But his first workout with the team should be today or tomorrow.
Bobby Burton
Tell you right now Jerry Mr. Spears has longer arms than me.
Jerry Hamilton
77272 Wingspan Ty that's probably, that's probably tied with LaMarcus Aldrich for the second highest release in Texas basketball history. KD will always be number one.
Bobby Burton
I gotta, I gotta say this. His hand that's guiding the ball it starts below the ball and goes above it. My hands don't do that. My hands don't do that. Normal hands don't do that.
Jerry Hamilton
He's the I I I I've never seen a measurement for his hands but I'm guessing we're at 10 and 3/4 to 11. I think this guy's gonna end up being 611 by the way I don't think he's done growing. He's 17 in four months. What 17 and four month guy your old guy that's six nine and three quarters is actually done growing. I'm gonna say zero. So he'll grow more in that 611 so and now we get to the football recruiting we people are talking about Bo Ogden. Bogdan was born to shoot the basketball. Joe Sterling shot the heck out of the ball since he's been in Austin too by the way but and Isaiah Johnson. So football recruiting we have another date now we've been waiting on Landon Williams callous it's actually going to go to August 1st for his commitment date and it's going to be a big deal in Richmond Rosenberg I plan on being there for that Obviously I live down in the Houston area which means from where I live to Randall High school areas well over an hour in traffic 55 minutes if you get lucky but on Texas football will be there wherever that announcement is Atlanta Williams cast will announce August 1st and we believe we continue to believe Texas is a heavy favorite there the obviously his final five are Texas, Texas A and msm Houston and Missouri. So we believe Texas is a continues to be a strong favorite there. We're now what are we 27 hours away from Munch and sales announcement 11am Friday on the Pat McAfee show is is when he's going to announce and look it's Indiana Texas. I know there's going to be three other hats at the table. Maybe he surprises us all but I think that'd be a surprise to Indiana and Texas if it wasn't Indiana or Texas. And the, the. Obviously, Bobby, look, we believe he's got a decision. He has not told the colleges of his decision. So there continues to be communication. But I'm. I'm of the belief that he. He has a decision, and he just has not informed Indiana or Texas of a decision as of Wednesday lunchtime. So it's. Look, the con. The communication has not stopped with Texas since his visit. Like, we talk about this all the time. When the communication starts to wane, you know, which direction recruiting recruitments are going to, but it has not waned. Whether that's been Chris Jackson, where that's been, people in the Texas football department, the communication has continued. Obviously, it has with Indiana as well. And the one thing I would say for a kid ranked this high, that's gonna have an announcement on Pat McAfee. I mean, it sounds rough, but I wouldn't tell any college I'm coming or not coming. Yeah, I'm not telling anybody because the news gets out from the school who's not getting the kid in our business. Yeah.
Bobby Burton
But I mean, at that point, you're really only talking about the. The crazies out there like you and I and watch this show. So it's not. It's still going to be good TV for Pat McAfee if it gets out early. I, I think the important part here and, and what I would say to y' all is that Jerry's point about communication lines remaining open is the biggest deal, because then you really know whether or not you're still in it to some degree. I say that, and at the same time, I know that when that's going on, there can be a favorite. I think we're seeing that, frankly, with landing Callis Williams recruitment right now. You know, there's a big article that came out of National Writer said, oh, Missouri still fighting for landing callous Williams.
Jerry Hamilton
They are.
Bobby Burton
I mean, there's no doubt they are. SMU is Houston, etc. But in this morning's article, I compared it to, look, they're all chasing Texas, just like they're all. All the opponents are chasing landing callous Williams in the open field. You know, it's hard to tackle. And that's kind of. That's kind of the situation. That's a good thing, you know, if you're a Longhorn fan for sure. And I. I just feel like that one's gonna be. It's not over by any stretch, but Texas is in a good position Because I think that Landon Callous Williams is convinced that Texas is probably the best place for him. Monchon Sales is a different story. It's a different style of recruitment. And I mean this in the. In. In a way that the. You know, Landon calls Williams born and raised in Richmond, Texas. Right. Been there his whole life, wanted to be around there. Etc. Got everyone in his family there. Indianapolis is different from Monshon Sales. He's originally from the deep South. Indiana has not been until two years ago a college football quote unquote power. And so they don't have this legacy value that they're pitching. And I think Texas does. And legacy value, tradition, whatever you want to describe it. And furthermore, you have Steve Sarkeesian, who has had a lot of really good. Not just luck, but proof in the pudding with. With wide receivers. So I look at it and I. I think the two recruitments are different and we'll. We'll go from there and see what happens.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
So. And I. I keep saying Lynn landing callous whip is Landon Williams callous.
Jerry Hamilton
I did that for the first year I watched.
Bobby Burton
Yeah. My apologies, guys. I. Into Landon in particular.
Jerry Hamilton
Callis Williams flows easier initially when you see it. When you see his name.
Bobby Burton
I did that for my. My apologies. But in Opio. He accepts that. But my point being that Sales, Jerry and Blake is different. This is a. He's being torn in a couple different ways. And, you know, I, I don't know that he.
Jerry Hamilton
He looks.
Bobby Burton
If he wanted to commit to Indiana, he would have been committed.
Jerry Hamilton
That's. That's exactly right.
Bobby Burton
The national championships here. I mean, he didn't have to drag this out. Did he want to. I. I don't think that was the case either. I mean, I don't think he set it up like. I'm gonna wait until the.
Jerry Hamilton
He reached out to Texas. He reached out to Texas first. Which tells you he was not sold on Indiana or.
Bobby Burton
Or whoever. Yeah, I mean, we're certainly Indiana today because they're the. They're the.
Jerry Hamilton
The f. Been the perceived favorite. But you're not reaching out to schools to say you.
Blake Monroe
Yeah, he did. If he.
Jerry Hamilton
If he was locked in on wanting to be an Indiana Hoosier because that's still the. And I'm not saying he's not going to Indiana, but that's still what Indiana. The hurdle. I'm going to keep saying this until he commits. That's the hurdle they have to get over. Maybe they get over it tomorrow at 11. But there's no doubt Sales didn't grow up With Indiana football posters on his wall, thinking of when he turned on college football, he turned on Indiana to say, man, that's just where I've always wanted to play. I always wanted to play. About wide receiver for the Indiana Hoosiers, there's literally zero chance he grew up saying that. So while Indiana won a national championship and congrats to them on all that achievements, amazing achievement for that program, one of the best we've ever seen in college athletics history. That doesn't mean sales. That makes him want to go there.
Bobby Burton
They.
Jerry Hamilton
They can get him, but they still have to, and they know it. They have to get over that hurdle. They know they're not the college that kids have grown up this level. Prospects grown up wanting to play at. They know it. It's like it's the same thing with SMU and Houston, with LAN and Will Williams, Callis, they've done a great job recruiting him. And there's that hometown feel for Houston and SMU can compete in nil. But he didn't grow up with those jerseys on, running around in his yard. That's not what. That's not who you grow up wanting to play for. You know, you go down and talk to Landon, when I was down there, the schools out his mouth are exactly who you would think they'd be. It's Texas, it's Texas A M, it's Oregon, it's Ohio State, it's an lsu, you know, and so even Missouri try to battle that because Curtis, Looper. Loopers recruited the state for a long time. Bobby, he probably recruited Jaquiz and James on some level in the state of Texas. But that's. Dude, you still have to get over that hurdle. That's the hurdle. Even through nil. All these schools that are trying to compete against your blue bloods or your known historical teams have to get over. Oh, we need to mention Eastern Royal, Bobby.
Bobby Burton
Oh, go ahead.
Jerry Hamilton
I mean, because we may. You know, look, people are going to ask. Look, I, I would say this on the communication part. I think that's still going. You know, we talked about. Okay, when the, when the communication starts to wane. That's not good for a school, the communication with Sales and his people. I think Sales took some. Some time and didn't communicate with anybody for a while himself. But his circle has always been maintain communication. And I don't have a problem with Easton saying, I want to get away from all the phone calls and such, but I, I think his circle has continued while he took his little break, has been continuing to have Communication with universities and in sales is too. I just think he took some of these because sometimes you need to take a few. But as much pressure as he's under. But the communication has not waned with Texas. And until it does, if it doesn't, you know, LSU's hoping to hear.
Blake Monroe
It does.
Jerry Hamilton
Right, Bobby? That's what they're hoping to hear. Because if they ever hear that, oh well, he's not talking to Texas much anymore. They know they're right there. They know they're right there at the finish line and he may cross the tape for lsu. That has not happened at this point.
Bobby Burton
It hasn't. Yeah. And I, I think that, you know, Texas hanging on. Yep. They're doing what they, they know to do. They're. They're being proactive. I think that again, a lot of people rush to judgment and rush to think things are going to happen in recruiting because this has happened before or that every recruitment is individual. No, I'll say that. Like I just explained that Laney Williams callous recruitment was different than Monshan Sales. Well, guess what? Easton Royal is different from both of them.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
Even though. And all three of those guys are top whatever players in the country.
Jerry Hamilton
Yep.
Bobby Burton
I mean, everybody in every recruitment is different. It just is and always will be. There's always nuances. You may be able to batch them in groups at some level, but the individual person wants to be recruited in a certain way. And if, if they connect, they connect. And I, right now, look, I do think Eastern Royal is trying to decide what he wants to do. You know, does he want to go to Texas? Does he want to stay close and go to, to lsu? He's intrigued by Florida, I think.
Jerry Hamilton
Does he want to play it out till December and stick with Texas and see what happens with. There's so many things in his orbit right now. Yeah.
Bobby Burton
And so trying to decide or decipher how his brain is working, it's. It, you know, I can't tell you right now and I don't. I think the only person that can is. Is Easton Royal. And right now he's choosing not to, not to talk about it publicly other than to tell people when they make assumptions about him that you shouldn't be making assumptions about me. That's, that's really what Landon Williams cows did. Same thing, right?
Blake Monroe
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
Don't be making assumptions or saying things about me that, that I, I don't want said, you know, and I, I think that's fair.
Blake Monroe
All right, well, we are going to talk about some current team stuff. As well. But first, Bobby, I need you to tell everyone about Vaughn Lane this morning.
Bobby Burton
I can do it. Longhorn fans in the Woodlands and North Houston, listen up. Von Lane just launched a new route between Austin and the Woodlands. You can book trips right now through Octo. Means football season is covered. No more white knuckling it down 290. No more fighting for parking. You ride in a first class leather seat, connect the Starlink, Wi Fi, grab a cold drink and show up. The game ready to go. But it's not just for game days. This route is perfect for business travelers heading to Austin for meetings, state government work or the UT campus. And for folks in Austin, it's a straight shot to the Woodlands for concerts, family visits or business in the area without dealing with Houston traffic. And here's what you're not paying for on Von Lane. Bag fees, seat assignments, or any of the nickel and dime nonsense the airlines have cooked up. Everything is included. Wi Fi snacks, beverages, hot tail service and complimentary meals. On select departures, you board at a private hotel terminal. With no TSA and no lines, Von Lane connects Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Plano, the Woodlands, Nashville, Memphis and Atlanta. Booked@vonlane.com and enter code OTF26 at checkout for 20 off your first ride. Von Lane, your private jet on wheels. I do want to add this one thing. If you're coming in from the Woodlands, if you're dropping your kids off at school come August and you've got a big he's got a car or she's got a car and it's filled with stuff, you get to just go to the. You get to drive in the car with them, sweat that whole day. Put moving them into a dorm, using the stairs, the elevators, whatever. Then you could get on a Von Lane bus and just get relaxed and drive back to the Woodlands and decompress. Or Houston, North Houston. There you go. That's my extra piece. Having done that for both of my kids and dropped them off at college and sweated like a pig in the middle of August, I would have liked to have taken a Von Lane home. I'll put it that way.
Jerry Hamilton
You might actually run into Rod Babers on a Von Lane. From Austin to Houston, too.
Bobby Burton
You never know.
Jerry Hamilton
He did it the other day.
Bobby Burton
Mum, why do they call it Scottish cheese?
Mum (Advertisement Voice)
It's cottage cheese, honey. And I'm not sure.
Bobby Burton
Do dogs in other countries speak different languages?
Mum (Advertisement Voice)
Yeah, I think so.
Bobby Burton
When will we get there?
Mum (Advertisement Voice)
Well, we've got to fix the car first, but there's Someone coming to help us.
Bobby Burton
Is it the man from Geneva?
Mum (Advertisement Voice)
Not Geneva. He's from Aviva. Oh, there's the van. Now, for car insurance with breakdown rescue, it takes Aviva visit Aviva ie to save 15%. Acceptance criteria terms and conditions apply. Minimum premium of 310 Euro. 15% discount applies to new policies bought online. See Aviva Ie for details. Car insurance is underwritten by Aviva Insurance Ireland dac. Aviva Direct Ireland limited is regulated by the Central bank of Ireland.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah. Hey, do Royal and Sales communicate with each other? A lot of these kids talk to each other and. Yeah, I know there has been communication. Has no bearing on either one's decision. I'll say that these are in. Look, could they end up at the same school? There's always a chance. Could they end up at totally different schools? Probably a higher probability, but it's not a deciding factor for those guys.
Bobby Burton
I. I wanted to add one other thing to the recruiting discussion before we move on to the team stuff. We do have some. A little bit of news to mention there before we move on. But, Jerry, the part with recruiting that I. I want to push on a little bit this morning is the idea. When we were sitting here two weeks ago now.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
We were saying, okay, they've got three guys left. And we were saying two. Two would be a big win. Two of three would be a big win. One of three would make sense. But two of three, Texas would. Would leave this. That. Leave this recruiting battle with a smile on their face. Yeah. Right. Well, they got Ismail Kamara.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
So now they're already one of one. Now there's just two left.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
If they finish one of two, they're probably still got a grin on their face. But what kind of grin on their face do they have? They finished three of three with five stars down the road.
Jerry Hamilton
If, if. If Texas rounded the basis three times here at the end, they would. If things fell perfectly. And they rarely do. Even for the Alabama top classes. They rarely did. They always missed on somebody. Texas would have the number one class over A and M. And that would be the funniest video of all time to get the cut because Barry's been a lot of crowing in College Station. A lot. That would be the funniest thing ever if Texas went over a. M for the number one class late. I think what. What's going to be interesting, though, is if. If from. For those that care about recruiting class rankings and look, the staff still cares about it. Perception and momentum is real. Still, if Texas won out for LWC and held everybody they have A M is going to finish one and Texas is going to finish two, going to finish one, two in recruiting. So I, I think there's a look if Texas, to Bobby's point, if Royal Sticks and Sales went Texas way and then l. Landon Williams callous went Texas way, they're gonna have the number one class. So I. It's real. And that's not to say Notre Dame can't get somebody or Miami can't get somebody else because DJ Jacobs is who's committed to Ohio State. Miami and Texas are still going to be in conversation with him. That'll play out through the season. So there's going to be a couple things happen late that could affect class rankings in December. But for right now, I think if Texas hold serve with everybody and they just got, if they just got Landon Williams callous and Sales went Indiana, Texas have the number two class going into the season.
Bobby Burton
Just got Landon Williams callous may be my favorite player in this, this class.
Blake Monroe
By the way, got a couple of super chats regarding all of this. First one from Rod Baber's helmet. Thank you. Says if he does commit to Texas, that has to be a record of Texas commitments going on Pat McAfee teams
Jerry Hamilton
would start telling those kids in competition with Texas not to go on. McAfee's taking a big chance here. No, it's like Sales is the one guy that was guaranteed to announce on McAfee. He is a five star top 10 player in the country at Lawrence north in Indianapolis.
Bobby Burton
He.
Jerry Hamilton
He's announcing on Pat McAfee, period. And that's.
Bobby Burton
His show is in Indianapolis, by the way.
Jerry Hamilton
That's why I think he's announcing on July 17th and not on the 10th is because Pat McAfee show was on vacay for the last week, couple weeks or doing contract negotiations. Whatever they were doing that July 10th was not available.
Bobby Burton
That makes sense. Yeah. Which leads us to believe that maybe a decision was already made. Yeah.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Blake Monroe
Let's see here. Drew says Sales commits to Texas. That lighten the load on Royal to stick with Texas. Any concern with Roberts if Landon Williams callous signs with Texas?
Jerry Hamilton
I mean, Drew, that's a good, good question. And so much has changed due to nil on number one. But it could go the other way too. If Sales commit to Texas, it might take the pressure off of Royal to go flip the lsu. So both can, both can be true there. But. And I'm not saying Royal is going to decommit. I'm just saying the flip side of that is. Boy, that could relieve some pressure off of Royal. Okay. Texas has a five star receiver now. I don't have to feel like I'm breaking everybody's heart. I can, I can go flip the lsu. So it could go both ways. If Landon, look, Landon Williams, Kalispex, Texas. What will happen is some schools will come after Noah Roberts that maybe after he committed, maybe it backed off, somebody's going to come back in. Could that be Oregon? Some people are going to come back in and try to say, all right, you know, we don't have a back in our class. You can be our back in our class or you can be one of two over at Texas. So that's going to happen in Noah Roberts recruitment. I guarantee their schools that will come in on him when all the dust settles in August. Bobby's a really, really good football player.
Bobby Burton
Yeah.
Jerry Hamilton
If Landon Williams callous goes to Texas, there's going to be people knocking on Noah Roberts door during.
Bobby Burton
And they should be.
Jerry Hamilton
And they should be.
Bobby Burton
Yeah, I, I would say this, it actually in some ways does lighten the load on an Eastern Royal because it shows. Well, this guy from Indiana committed to Texas and he's a five star lightning. He didn't, he didn't feel the need to stay home.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
Why should I feel the need to stay home? And all this peer pressure. So I, I, it works both ways, I think. Again, no, no two recruitments are the same. Yeah, I'm a bit, I mentioned Laney Williams. I, I'm a big fan of Noah Roberts as well.
Jerry Hamilton
Yep.
Bobby Burton
I, I think, I think that you're going to find few runners of the football as good as Landon Williams. Callous. I think you may find few backs out of the backfield as good as Noah.
Jerry Hamilton
Versatile.
Blake Monroe
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
Yeah. I mean I, I'm not so sure. He's not Jaden Blue in that category, you know. And, and so in a better running back.
Jerry Hamilton
Natural. More natural. Yeah.
Mum (Advertisement Voice)
Yeah.
Blake Monroe
Also C7 Sanchez. I put your super chat up when they were talking about Royal and Sale, so appreciate you as well. All right guys, let's, let's take a look. Today we'll do offense, tomorrow we will do defense. But let's take a look at the projected depth chart heading into the 2026 season. Any anywhere y' all want to start in particular? I think quarterback is obviously, you know that you can go ahead and pencil that in. But where, where do we want to start this morning?
Jerry Hamilton
Well, I feel like we failed because if Texas football's failing now, there's not enough ores anymore on depth chart back it used to be an or, or,
Bobby Burton
or, or, or, or depth chart.
Jerry Hamilton
But we, we have less ores these days, I think, I think that's a
Bobby Burton
good thing too, by the way.
Jerry Hamilton
It is.
Bobby Burton
Mac Brown and Tom Herman. Love the or. Yeah, we've got a, we, you know, a little bit more forthright, I think. You know, and he's got, you know, these, these, these guys create their own pecking order too though.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
I will say that when you have as many really, really talented players as Texas has, they kind of create their own pecking order more naturally. Whereas before if you had guys that weren't necessarily NFL players, both of them, then you could have an or in there fairly. You know what I mean? It's like, well, whoever plays well that day. But no, as we look at this offensive depth chart, the one thing I wanted to say before we even move into that, Jerry, we believe and we believe that practice for the Longhorns, it hasn't been announced officially, but it looks like it's going to start on August 4th.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
So for folks that monitor that sort of stuff, including us, we believe that, that that practice going to start on the fourth. It may be the first practice is just a little run through and then it becomes a second, a second go on the 5th. But it's, it's sounding like we're hearing August 4th on, on the start of fall practice. All right. Beyond that, this depth chart is ridiculously talented. Ridiculously talented. I think that you look at the quarterback as an NFL player. The two running backs are NFL players. Wide receiver at the X is an NFL player. Wide receiver at the Z is an NFL player. Wide receiver at the H is an NFL player. The tight end, we, we shall see where. Oh, that's the tight end without missunas
Jerry Hamilton
is on draft boards.
Bobby Burton
I know, but soon it's on draft boards. Nick Towns and we believe the H, not the Y, not the inline guy, gonna be likely an NFL guy. Trevor Goosby, NFL guy. Now this is where you, you start wondering, okay, who all's NFL guys? Jaden Chapman and Lawrence Seymour. If Seymour were an NFL guy, high draft pick, he would have been gone to the NFL draft this year. Not in for a six year, not in the portal.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
Connor Robertson, while solid, not a not expected to be in the draft conversation. I mean he was contemplating foregoing his senior year basically or his final year at Texas. Brandon Baker's a draft guy. Melvin Siani is a draft guy. So what is that? You have 12 players here, 10 of which on offense that are starting are NFL guys. That's a stacked roster, including untold backups, by the way. We're not even discussing the backup. Yeah, I guess. I guess with the. Or with. With religion, Brown and Hollywood Smothers, you're really talking 11. Yeah. So when we talk about talent at Texas, this is what we mean. 10 of the 12 spots have NFL future futures. 11 players in total, listed first team have NFL futures. That's loaded. Yeah, that's the definition of loaded. Now there are other teams that are loaded. Ohio State's loaded, Georgia's loaded. LSU is loaded. You know, there are other teams that are loaded. Don't. So don't. And other teams will have better offensive lines, other teams will have better tight ends. You know that. Maybe running back, maybe quarterback even.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah, but
Bobby Burton
you're. With this kind of setup, you should be able to take on all comers. Doesn't mean you're going to beat everybody. But you shouldn't shy from competition when this is your group.
Jerry Hamilton
I let's. I want to hit on a few things on this real quick. So in spring practice, obviously Arch was limited, so it was K.J. lacy and Diabel taking reps back to back. I do think obviously Diabelt preserving the. There's no red shirt anymore. But the developmental year, M.J. morris is your emergency third quarterback. But Bobby, what's interesting now with five years to play, is that actually going to be the case? Because a year ago Diabell would have been slated for the KJ Lacy redshirt, the Arch Manning red shirt, but now you get five to play. Five years to play. So that Diabell thinking, okay, he's definitely it be a red shirt year. It's going to be a developmental year. But if Texas had that horrible Missouri luck at quarterback, I'm betting Diabell is going to be the three at that point. So I just want to bring that one up. We've heard, we both heard. EMT Mosley back. Healthy as somebody to watch this year.
Bobby Burton
Yeah.
Jerry Hamilton
Not that you wouldn't do a little article.
Bobby Burton
You just, you just took my article.
Jerry Hamilton
I'm sorry. That's what we were talking about.
Bobby Burton
You're supposed to hold that for at least, you know, another couple hours.
Jerry Hamilton
Sorry. He has the drops. Can't catch a cold and. Yeah. In Alaska. Sorry.
Bobby Burton
No, you know, you know what we talk about, we. We kind of hold stuff back at times and we were gonna. I was gonna hold that one back, but Emmett Mosley, I was asking, talking to someone close to the program yesterday and this, this is going to surprise Blake. Put your face back up on the screen because I gotta, I gotta say this and see what you. What your facial reaction is. Okay. With EMT Mosley. I was told yesterday the people. The one guy that people are sleeping on maybe on this Texas offense is EMT Mosley. The person went on to say, I think that EMT Mosley will lead the team in receptions.
Jerry Hamilton
I can see it.
Blake Monroe
Wow.
Jerry Hamilton
I can see that.
Bobby Burton
So because you have these two outside guys in Coleman and Wingo, you have an underneath guy in Mosley. You don't have a tight end that is a high catch volume guy like you had with Gunner Helm or J.T. sanders.
Jerry Hamilton
Yep.
Bobby Burton
And so just putting that out there. Pretty, pretty, pretty strong stuff.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
In my opinion. Strong comment based on nobody is any. Did anybody have him leading the team in receptions this year that you've talked Mosley? Yeah.
Jerry Hamilton
Probably just better have that belief after injury. Yeah.
Bobby Burton
But I think the, the bigger piece was that when they talked about Mosley is people underappreciated how good he is.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
Like people just. Oh, he's, he's, you know. Well, you're comparing against two possible first rounders because they have that extra gear. Right. And so of course that's difficult. But I, if, if he leads in receptions. I was not thinking that way. I was not thinking that way. So. And that's not a bad thing. It's just something to put out there for people to contemplate.
Jerry Hamilton
Can you throw that back up?
Bobby Burton
We don't want to see your face anymore, Blake.
Jerry Hamilton
I don't want to see the people what they want. I don't want to see my face anymore. Okay. Left guard. The Jaden Chapman or Seymour's discussion. I think it was David Keith Williams said a All Americans listed it set as an or. I would say this on Seymour. He was second team all conference by his own coaches. So because somebody some. Some magazine had him first team all American. That. I'm not saying Seymour's not a good player, but he was second team all conference in his NC USA by the coaches. So I think that whole all American thing has thrown people off a little bit on him or making him have unrealistic expectations. I think he's a solid player. Bobby Seymour Chapman there obviously Sikorsky brought in as well. We're the reason. I would say we think Seymour probably wins that job. But he still hasn't practiced with a helmet on for the University of Texas. And so guys have come in that have been really good out of the portal and started out third Team and had to work their way up in the spring. Second team had to work their way up. I think the key with Lawrence Seymour there is. He hasn't practiced with Texas, so there's still an element while you're doing some on field stuff in the summer. Still totally different than lined up against the Texas defensive front. And you're in a new scheme and you got to go, you got to go get it done at that point in time because he's still going through a scheme adjustment and the team adjustment right now, and it doesn't really get real for him until the helmet and pads are on and the contacts there with it. So Lawrence Seymour has to go out and win a job. I don't think he's going to be handed a job. I think he's going to go out and win a job is what's going to happen there. I think what will be interesting, Bobby, in that competition is I think Seymour. What Seymour brings to Texas, I think is real physicality in the run game. I think that's real. I think he's going to bring some real toughness and physicality and contact power in the run game, and I think that's going to be big with his ability to go win that job.
Bobby Burton
I. Let's see.
Jerry Hamilton
No, he's gotta go do it, though.
Bobby Burton
My, my, my take on this is put, put them out there on the field and let's see who wins. You know, I, I'm a firm believer in, you know, iron sharpens iron or whatever the, the terminology people want to use these days. Seems like iron sharpens iron is the new one that, that people have been using so much. But my thought process is, you know, Seymour, for example, Gary, he played some at Miami early a little bit. I have no doubt that physically he's mature enough. My question is athletically, laterally, how good is he in past protection? I don't. I have no doubt that physically he can handle the load. Is Jaden Chapman a little more athletic than Seymour laterally?
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
And if so, does that lend to a better pass protector? I'm not so sure that that's not the big question between those two, but you have to see them play. You know, Chapman could be more athletic but less of a people mover.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
Well, what do you want to do on offense this year, you know, with all these receivers and running backs that, that can create space on their own? Don't you want to be better pass protection? I just don't. I'm not to your point. I'm not sitting here Saying Lawrence Seymour, you are guard number one.
Blake Monroe
Right.
Jerry Hamilton
He's got to go get it done. Yeah.
Bobby Burton
And so I, I think to your point about, you know, earning it and, or the fact that he was second team CUSA or what have you. People need to understand that nothing is given. I mean, look, Spencer Shannon proved that at tight end, by the way.
Jerry Hamilton
Hey, Texas could kick Jordan Coleman in the left guard and create a real competition for all those guys. Yeah, I mean that's, it's a lot like he hadn't repped there before. Yeah, he was, he was tackle only in the spring because Trevor Goosby was out. So, like, there's some parts that still could move here. I think, I think a very underrated battle is going to be the backup right tackle spot. Everybody just figures Kojo coming off injury because he was starting to come on. He should. He was 16 and I don't know, 11 months when he enrolled at Texas. He's younger than Marcus Spears. I mean like 16 and 11 months. I think he turned 17 two or three days after he got to Texas. He was young. It wasn't, it was going to take him two or three years to even get close to where Texas. That. Okay, this guy's physically ready to go. He's mentally grown and matured. He's ready to go at this level. But Jonte Newman's shown some things. Bobby, you've reported on that. We've talked about that. Jonte Newman has a year of, of practicing in a red shirt year in the SEC at Texas A and M. So he's, he's faced really good players over there, two guys that got drafted. I think that backup right tackle spot is, is interesting and why I think it's so interesting is if Ciani goes pro, who after this season, who, who's gonna take that back up right tackle spot and position themselves to potentially be a starter next year on this team. So Texas has liked what they've seen from Dante Newman. He's not been talked about that much, but they do like what they've seen from him.
Bobby Burton
Yeah, I think Kojo could also be your backup left tackle too, maybe if Jordan Coleman's not ready for that. I, I like the flexibility that Kojo provides and I, I do feel one of the real stories of last year was his injury because he was, he had actually, I think it occurred the day or the day after he moved into the number one right tackle spot ahead of Brandon Baker when he had that. Now granted, that wasn't a final move. No, I'm not trying to you know, say bake, he had beaten Baker out, but, but he had, he had, had that, that movement.
Blake Monroe
All right, before we move on, Jerry, I'm going to let you tell everyone this morning about Zen AI.
Jerry Hamilton
I can do that. I can do that. This summer, don't just watch the game. Vibecast that games and I is home of Vibecasting, a new way to capture and share real sports conversations. No studio, no fancy gear. Your phone is your whole setup. Arguing about who should have taken the last shot, breaking down every play like Bobby and soccer. Hit record, talk it out and then AI turns that combo into a sports cast. You can share his clips, reels and even tick tocks. An AI producer works behind the scenes, cleaning up studio audio, cutting highlights and helping you tweak edits just by chatting in plain English. Go live while the game is on or record your hot takes after. Bring your own co host or find another fan. And Zen AI's network this summer's in AI is paying new Vibecasters to launch their first sports cast. Humans are the talent. AI is the infrastructure. Zen AI is invite only. Hit the Zen AI to join the wait list. That's Zen AI or tap the link in our show notes. Bobby's gonna by cast soccer.
Blake Monroe
I didn't tell everyone this morning about Prize Picks as well because there's a lot of ways to watch sports. You can sit back, check the score, maybe flip between the games, or you can have something riding on every switch. Swing every shot, every touch, every possession. That's where prize picks comes in. The summer sports calendar is loaded. Baseball is rolling once again. The WNBA has been a blast and the World cup is winding down. Prize picks gives you a simple way to make all of it more interesting. You're just looking at player projections and deciding one thing more or less. That's it. You build your lineup, you submit your picks, and now you're locked in from the first whistle to the final out. And with baseball back today, we're locked into the Phillies versus the Mets. We got Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola to go more than five and a half strikeouts. Nola is over that in back to back games with seven and eight strikeouts his last three games. Then we're taking Mets pitcher Christian Scott to have more than five and a half strikeouts. He had six against the Phillies a month ago. So that's what makes Prize Picks fun. You trust your read, you make the call and suddenly every little moment matters. And yes, Prize Picks is available in all 50 states, including right here in Texas. So download the app, use code HMA when you sign up and then when you play $5 in lineups, they're going to give you $50 in lineups instantly. Again, that's code HMA on the Prize Picks app. Five gets you 50. It's as simple as that. And as always, play smart. Play responsibly. Play prize picks.
Bobby Burton
Mum, why do they call it Scottish cheese?
Mum (Advertisement Voice)

Yeah, I think so.
Bobby Burton

Mum (Advertisement Voice)
Well, we've got to fix the car first. But there's someone coming to help us.

Blake Monroe
Bobby, I know you. You had something you wanted to share?
Bobby Burton
Yeah, absolutely. So my in laws, this is a. This is a momentous occasion. My in laws are. Have their anniversary today. You want to guess how long, Jerry?
Jerry Hamilton
No, because I might insult their age.
Bobby Burton
You're not. Well, 60 years.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah. Think about if I just said 70.
Bobby Burton
They're laughing at that.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah, that would have been. That would have been a bad insult to me.
Bobby Burton
No, no, they hope they make 70, I think. But happy, happy anniversary to Bob and Renita Pearson.
Jerry Hamilton
There you go.
Bobby Burton
All right. And we should. Hey, we need to mention this stuff that's going on in the hill country. Brutal. Would you say 32ft of water?
Jerry Hamilton
Some people are reporting 37 now.
Bobby Burton
37ft of water in the hill Country. In Kerrville in particular,
Blake Monroe
it's almost the Guadalupe rose, I believe.
Bobby Burton
Unbelievable. Well, I. Guys, I hope everything's okay for. For you and your loved ones out there. I know San Antonio got hit hard yesterday morning as well, so please take care of yourself first and foremost.
Jerry Hamilton
By the way, I want to ask the chat a question. So much of the OTF team will be in Tampa next week for SEC media days where. Give us me. Give me CJ Whoever. It's crazy. People want to do it. Give us some ideas where you'd like to see us do a show from in the Tampa area. I've got one that we're doing that I'm not mentioning to anybody, but, you know, give us some ideas. In front of the Bucks facility in case Baker Mayfield Walt strolls up and we could get an interview with them. Anything like that. Bring your ideas because it's an OTF community for a reason. Bring your SEC show ideas outside the beach. Last beach is always a good one outside of just where we're going to be at for SEC media days. Yeah. Johnny, IMG from IMG Football Field. I mean, somebody sent me that one last night.
Bobby Burton
Hey, by the way, that, that brings up John Meredith.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
And the Texas cornerback commitment from Great Point Bobby Crowley. He. He was actually we're wondering where he's going to go to school this year, if he's going to go to school at all since he's been denied eligibility at North Crowley. Jerry, you picked up on something on Instagram from him yesterday. What was that?
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah, well, I talked to a source yesterday and they're like, not sure what's going to happen. It's not going to be IMG. See, I mentioned, and I'm not saying it's 100. Not. Not expected. Let's say not expected to be IMG because IMG has a bunch of kids that already moved down from out of state that were kind of recruited there at, you know, all these positions. So that's a, that's a dangerous game for IMG to play on some level. Not saying he can end up there, but I think it's not likely. Didn't want to go from what I was told. Didn't. Doesn't really want to go to private school in Texas. So he showed up yesterday at our favorite high school, the OTF community's favorite high school. Anybody? What is that? Shamanad Madonna. Derek Cooper must have talked to him about, hey, I move. You know, obviously he lived down the street, but this should be, this is a place maybe you should look at. And the head coach at Shamadonna obviously is pretty close with Texas. Texas recruited not not only Cooper, but a couple of guys in the past, including one Jeremiah Smith, they tried to recruit. So John Meredith was down taking a look at Shaman on Madonna. He says on his Instagram, we'll see which way that goes. But that would be fun for me. That'd be great for the chat for the next few months. I just wanted to play football this year. I don't care where it is, just go get your game reps.
Bobby Burton
Yes, I agree with you that, that we take the, the light heartedness out of it. The important part for me, for John Meredith is for him to continue to play football. Yeah. Even though he could because he's he's such a big time athlete, he could sit out this year and just work. I think reps matter so much in a person's young person's development. So I hope that, that he finds a way to get on the football field this year.
Jerry Hamilton
He's had some injury, not major, but injury issues that kept him out of some high school games. He doesn't have as many games played as some, as some or a lot of kids his age. So I, I think it's important Rod agrees with Bobby and I that to go get your game reps and the source I talked to yesterday agrees as well that just want to see him play somewhere this year, get some game reps. I actually think that would be a great spot for him and I'm not saying he's going there. We're not reporting that or trying to break news on that. Just that he was down in that area and he actually posted on IG from there. I think it'd be great for him. I think that they play a national schedule, probably something he's looking for. If you can't play at North Crowley, play a national schedule and play really good, really fast football players, I think that'd be a great prep year for him before he gets to Texas. We'll see what happens. Will he leave home for high school for a year? We'll see for six months. It's not a whole year, it's just a few months.
Blake Monroe
Well, last week we looked at the FPI with ESPN a little bit when that came out. But today I thought we could take a look at win probabilities for each game per the ESPN fpi. And guys, Texas favored in every single game, believe it or not. The closest one, of course is Ohio State where Texas has a 53.2% probability. But overall a lot of numbers in 70s, 80s and a few in the 90s as well.
Jerry Hamilton
You can tell ESPN's never played an SEC schedule before. Well, first thing I'll tell them I like your probabilities, but y' all have never played the schedule before.
Bobby Burton
They just play hundreds of million dollars for the rights to the sec. But they don't actually watch the games.
Jerry Hamilton
They haven't taken the hits on the road and dealt with the crowds.
Bobby Burton
I love it. I love it. LSU at 64%. A lot of people had asked what toughest road game will be for the Longhorns. I think that would be one. I'm a little surprised by the OU number given that the Sooners have a lot returning and, and made the College football playoffs last year. But, you know, Longhorns have had their number, so we'll see what, what that goes for. I, I'm here to tell you, when I go down and look at this list and I, I keep looking at that roster like we did earlier in this program, Jerry, and I understand why the numbers are the, the, the numbers. I mean, when you have 10 starters, starting positions that have NFL players on it, on offense alone, that's strong. I mean, I, I don't know what else to tell y'.
Blake Monroe
All.
Bobby Burton
Yeah, like, that's as talented as Texas has ever been on offense. From a holistic standpoint, there may have been better quarterbacks than Vince Young or Colt McCoy, at least in college. Right. There may have been better wide receivers in a guy like Roy Williams, there may have been better running backs. Certainly been better running backs, whether it's Bijan or Deontay Foreman or whoever, but the totality of the group is the best. And I think that's reflective of, of what we see here from this FPI for. From espn.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah. Yeah. It kind of take. Whenever I see something like this, it always takes me back to ust, usc, greatest team ever, and then lost in their last big game ever. But I also always go back to this, like, just because of the expectations is Nick Saban coached 16 years in the SEC and had the most talented teams you've ever seen in the conference. He only went undefeated in SEC play 6 out of 16 years, not even half the time, the best we've ever seen in the college game. And so I always go back to that. I'm like, it's really hard, really difficult to go undefeated in the sec. And people, Because I think too many people said, well, look what Indiana did last year. Okay, well, compare the schedules. Doesn't mean they weren't the best team. But compared to schedules, compare the, the bottom half of those leagues. There's. There is a difference there from a talent standpoint. Let me ask you for Texas, like Bobby82, chance to win at Missouri. Right now, that's. Missouri plays everybody really tough there. Like, that's probably high, you know, and I get where they're going with it. That's probably high. At Tennessee, people tell you that's one of the toughest places to play. It's like, it's underrated until you've actually been there. So, I mean, Georgia had to get out of there. Got. Probably got lucky to win that game last year early in the season. So are we seeing this Texas team? Is that, Is that much Better than Georgia last year, for instance. I know it's different, teams change, but I think they're high on their probabilities. I do think Texas will be. If, if Texas beats Ohio State, they'll be favored in every game all season for sure. Oh, yeah.
Bobby Burton
Well, they probably should. Hey, the question I have is this. Look at the A M percentage, 65.1% and compare that to OU 75.6. Now, obviously, the game against OU's in the Cotton Bowl. The game against A M is in College Station. Don't you think those numbers should be flipped, though? Like, I'm not A M, do they? I just don't know that they scare you at all. I mean, Mike Elko has proven nothing against Steve Sarkeesian. Yeah, nothing. And he's going to take a step back this year. Not a step forward, in my opinion.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah, we'll see.
Bobby Burton
And so. Well, I mean, don't you think those numbers should be flipped? Aren't you more concerned about the OU game than the A M game at this point?
Jerry Hamilton
Maybe. I want to see Oklahoma run a football against people. They're good. See if they've improved there.
Bobby Burton
Well, they'll be back in Tus when they play Texas.
Jerry Hamilton
Oh, yeah. Michigan at Georgia. Yeah. I mean, look, I, I, I don't disagree with that. I, I, I don't disagree with that. I think, you know, I think A and M talent wise is going to be up there because they're so, they're one of the best nil schools. I mean, they're gonna, they, they've got who they've got.
Bobby Burton
Yeah, I mean, they're not that they should not. I, I don't know.
Jerry Hamilton
I, well, I mean, look, I think their whole deal is, is Holman Wiggins, the Holman Wiggins, Marcel Reed combination. I think, I think A M talent wise is going to be really good. I, I just, they just, they're in and I, They're a top five nil program. They're going to be really good if you have a competent coach. No different than Texas if you have a competent coach and you're a top two or three in Il school, Ohio State, the same. You should be really good every year. You have every advantage to have talent. But Bobby, to your point, what will be interesting is on A M, people kind of laughed at Elko last year when he said, and I'm not sitting here, I'm not some advocate of Mike Elko, but I will give a guy credit when he deserves it. Last year he said, we have 11 to 12 draft picks and people kind of laughed. Typical. A and m, they'll go 8 and 4. Not if you have that much talent. So let's see what he says next week, because what he says is probably going to be right on his talent level. If he says we're as talented as last year in different ways, he's probably not going to be wrong. So I'm interested to see what he says next week.
Bobby Burton
Yeah, I'm not he, I don't think he's going to be as bullish this year as he was last year. If he is, I'll be, I'll find that, I don't want to say amusing, but I'll find that interesting because I think they take a step back now. They could be, they could be building for the future, though, I, I, to be clear, as they take a step back, but I would flip Texas. I would flick flip a M&ou. I think a N, I think OU has a chance this year. What was the Miss Ole Miss game? I think we didn't talk about that
Jerry Hamilton
because 86, 86, 87, 83, 83.8. Wow.
Bobby Burton
That, that is. Why are we sure?
Jerry Hamilton
I don't look, I think their computer broke. I mean, look, Texas is very talented, but I, I, I mean, people have been watching the SEC a long time, right? Like, it doesn't make sense. It doesn't. It's not computing in my head, as somebody who's watched Nick Saban teams at Alabama, Georgia win 1312 at Kentucky, I mean, two years ago with a much more talented team, it's like the numbers aren't computing for me. And I know what it is. We're talking about it. That's good for espn. Espn. But I mean, unless Trinidad Chambliss is out injured, you don't have an 84% chance to win that game going in. It's got to be lower than that. That guy's clutch gen. Daniel. That's pretty funny. I only Jerry likes Michael Busy likes corn dogs with mayo. I don't know if that's true, but looks like it.
Blake Monroe
All right, before we move on and get to some more of y' all's questions, I need to tell everyone this morning about Hexclad. Listen up, fellas. Summer cooking is officially in session. Jerry Hamilton
One thing I'll say I just. While you guys were doing reads, I looked up the end of A M's schedule this year. The one thing I'll say for A M fans, y' all better not be 8 and 2 going in the last two games because they're at OU and then short week host Texas. If they have two losses going into those last two games, they will get a third. They will lose one of those games. They better, they better be. They could lose two. But see what Oklahoma, see where everybody's at health wise. But they, they, they better be nine and one headed in those last two if they want to get the playoff.
Bobby Burton
I want to say this weirdest off season move of any major program that I saw this year was Holman Wiggins being elevated to. To offense coordinator.
Jerry Hamilton
A. I agree.
Bobby Burton
I'm not saying he, he could end up being great.
Jerry Hamilton
It's just total unknown.
Bobby Burton
I just, I. I just think it was a weird hire. Yeah. Will A and M, Mulligan, Mully. Will A and M win a national championship in our lifetime for football only? They haven't won one in my in laws lifetime and they've been married 60 years, so chances are no.
Jerry Hamilton
So here, here's. Here's my thing with that. The Texas fans think you'll ever win a national championship in basketball or no. Did anybody ever think Baylor would win one in basketball? The answer is obviously no. Did Indiana just won one in football? I would say in my lifetime, Will, depending on how much longer I live, I'd say It's at least 50. 50 because they're an nil. They're top nil school. But it's harder to win a national championship than ever. But it's like it's like, now we're Texas fans. Oh, we're going to win one in basketball, win the one Final Four since 1947. But then A&M can't win one in football. So I'm like, well, you can't really. You can't really have both ways now. It's not. It's pretty much the same thing. I never thought I'd see Baylor win a basketball national championship with Scott Drew, by the way.
Bobby Burton
Basketball is different.
Jerry Hamilton
It's harder, Bobby. It's harder to win six games.
Bobby Burton
It's harder to win six games in a row. It's easier to acquire the talent to win those six games. That's my opinion. Well, if you're fine, look, you find one or two players that, that are tremendous and all of a sudden basketball is a different game. Football, it takes. You can't just find one or two players that elevate everybody else. You got to find 10 to 15. That's my opinion.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
That's why football, you, you can see it coming more likely. Although I did not see Indiana coming. So to your point, I mean, but that, that's been my thinking for a long time and I'm not sure just Indiana, I'm not sure just Indiana's success changes my line of thinking there. I think basketball is a more. Is an easier sport to do that in, to acquire that talent.
Jerry Hamilton
But you still like Baylor fans. Never thought they'd have the players to compete with Duke.
Bobby Burton
Oh, I agree with you. I, I agree with you. My point is, I think it's harder and foot. Much harder in football because I think you can, you can, you could get. I mean, for, for example, one or two players could be endemic to the university, whereas in football you need 10 to 12. And when I say endemic, like their dad played for Texas or their mom played for something like that. Whereas at. In football, you got to have 15 of those, man.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
Or go recruit them.
Jerry Hamilton
Well, that's, that's why I give any team, any team. This isn't an A M or Texas thing. Any team in Miami got really close last year. In football, if you're a top five, six nil. That goes for Oregon. Top five, six school in nil. If you can maintain that and live in that arena, you're going to have enough talent one year if things fall into place. I mean, that's, I think that's going to be the reality in the nil world. Look, look at Texas basketball now. It's no different than A and M football in this way that Texas now From an NIL standpoint is competing with Kentucky and Duke and Kansas. Hell, they're better from an analysis standpoint than Kansas right now this year in basketball. So if you're in that area code, you have a legit chance, but things have to fall your way still. But you got a legit chance. The nil Nil era gives people a real chance if they're at the top of the front line of it. I just believe that. But we'll see.
Blake Monroe
At the beginning of the show we mentioned that it's 51 days away from kickoff, so I thought we'd take a look at our 51s for today. One of them we've actually had here on coffee football but we got Stan Thomas, the offensive tackle, Bruce Schultz, the linebacker, Donald Hawkins, offensive tackle. He came on when we first started coffee and football guys. And then Our current number 51, John Turntime, offensive lineman out of North Crowley.
Bobby Burton
Good players there guys. Real good.
Jerry Hamilton
Oh yeah, that Donald Hawkins we've had on the show before. Trains guys, trains lineman up in the DFW area. Trained some big time guys like Michael Fousi over the years. Does a lot of work with great work with the youths kids coming up in football. Stan Thomas, Bobby, where does he rank on in Texas lore for you?
Bobby Burton
Like definitely not first team. He was interesting player in that he's. He's from California originally. I think Imperial California. If I'm not, if, if I'm trying to remember. He had a brother named Robert that ended up playing at UCLA in the NFL as well. Stan was interesting in that his first couple years he played a lot and started but he wasn't considered necessarily a really top end player. And then Texas in the. In 1990 had a real run in college football. I think ended the regular season ranked number three before they got tattooed in the Cotton bowl by, by Miami. But Thomas was one of those guys that had been I. He got a lot of holding penalties and offsides penalties and false starts as a sophomore and junior and then as a senior. It all came together for him athletically. Ended up being a first round pick I believe by the Bears and had had some time there. But he's, he's a good player. I would not put him in the top top 10 offensive linemen of all time at Texas. Good player though. Good player.
Jerry Hamilton
By the way, I. Somebody people are comment on the old neck rolls. I dare one Texas player to break one out this year. That'd be awesome.
Bobby Burton
They're gonna, they're gonna break out the
Jerry Hamilton
cue collar like yes that has replaced it. But I want to see one big neck. Who's going to be the guy to do it? Be smart and I'll play get you a lot of attention. Who's going to break out the big Derek Johnson neck roll?
Blake Monroe
We got a few more should do it.
Jerry Hamilton
Art should do it.
Bobby Burton
Hey, time out. Go back to 51 real quick. I wanna, we do need to talk about John Turntine. He's the existing number 51 on the team right now. Jerry, given Jordan Coleman's progression, given Ismail Kamara, Lucas Roa, Brian Swanson in this recruiting class where your projection and given what you saw from John Turntine in the spring on the Texas campus, what's your prognostication right now for him long term?
Jerry Hamilton
I would say the first thing is the weight. He's in the mid-290s now. He's, he's now gained 20, 25 pounds, 24 pounds since he enrolled at Texas. So that we need to update that closer to and I know that's what they, I think the roster said but people inside the, inside the building would say he's 293,294ish. I think he's the best athlete of the group. I think he was. I, look, I've, y' all know I've liked him since I saw him the first time as a sophomore at North Crowley. The guy's got just very high end athletic ability. Whether that's your feet, whether that's your ankle flexion, whether it's your knee bend, he's a physical guy. Obviously he's a super smart football player. He was so strong. I think the one thing people are going to miss on him until they don't is people equate his weight with strength. He, he was squatting 600 pounds, leaving high school at 272 lbs.
Bobby Burton
Pounds.
Jerry Hamilton
Like that's an insane number for a 272 pound person. He is a strong guy. He has natural strength and he works at it. So I look, I think John Turntine has a very bright future at Texas. I, it will not surprise me if in year two he's a starter at Texas. It won't surprise me. It will not. I just. The guy's been too good for too long. I mean look he, he's played, he, he played well against some of the best high school edge athletes you'll see and he held his own every single time he went up against Colin Simmons and Colin Simmons was a year older so Colin got the better of him a little bit. But it wasn't a, it wasn't an embarrassment at all. Like John Turntine's very talented, he's very smart guy and he's just really blessed athletically and I think he's, I, I just think the thing that's been missed with him is people just say oh well you're 270 pounds. You know, you gotta, you gotta get a lot stronger. He didn't have to get a lot stronger, he just had, he just had to stop trying to have abs and add his way. I think, I think he's gonna be a start. I think he's gonna be a multi year starter at Texas. Now the question is, is that left tackle, is that potentially right tackle? I still think all that's going to play out. But he looked good in the spring showcase Bobby because he was going up against some good edge guys. Now Smith and Rogueboat can get after it from the edge and he did not look overwhelmed by his athleticism at all.
Blake Monroe
We got a super chat about another person here. This one from Blake Janza. Thank you Blake. Morning fellas. Could you see Jermaine Bishop being used in a rose role similar to Ramon's Taylor? His speed, versatility reminds me of rt. God bless and hook.
Bobby Burton
Wow. You know that's may not be a bad comparison in some ways, Jerry. I don't, he's not a running back though.
Jerry Hamilton
That's. Yeah, yeah.
Bobby Burton
Not quite as big like Romont's now. I, I, not quite the same way. Not quite the same way.
Blake Monroe
And then one here from Big Poke. Will Michael Terry get playing time this season
Jerry Hamilton
to be tbd? Look, I, I've said this on Michael Terry, this is my take on Michael Terry. Extremely talented athlete, came into college Texas wanting to be a wide receiver. You want to be a wide receiver. That's your mentality coming into college. If you change, make a position change to running back and you're a six 2,225ish pound guy, you have to change your mental because you, you wanted you were going towards a position that wasn't the most physical position on the field and now you're going to shift and you're moving the running back. Well, if you're a 6 2, 225 pound running back and you're not going to win outside the hashes, that's not how you're going to win in college. Where do you have to win? You have to be a physical dude between the tackles and can you shift your mentality and become that player? Because if not you're gonna Have a very tough time competing against Derek Cooper long term because Derek Cooper is physical. He came in, he was physical in high school. That's the way he played the game as a linebacker and running back. And he came in with a very physical mindset. And I'm not saying Terry can't do it, but when you pick wide receiver coming into college, that's not the most physical player on the field. Now you're moving to a position in the SEC as a big back. You have to be the most physical guy on the field. You, you have to, you're, you have to bring your hat at crier as much as he's bringing his hat at you in an A gap. And can Michael Terry do that? I think he's a great athlete. I think the big thing for me with Bobby, with Michael Terry is I just wanted him to sit one, one and a half years at the same position and just sit and develop and see what happens with him. Because he played all over the place. A lot of people say, well, hey, move him the linebacker or something. That's a physical mindset. Like, you know, there's been a lot of guys. Cedric Cormier, who's a great player at North Shore, Bobby had no interest in playing defense. You just can't throw him out there and say, go play defense. It's not going to work. It's a different mentality. So I think Michael Terry, the biggest thing with him, he was always came in to college as a guy who needed time. He needed time at one position to develop and we'll see where it goes for him. And somebody's like, or so he's a bus. I don't, I don't say guys are bust. They haven't, they're, they've had a red shirt year. I mean these guys just don't. Somebody said that earlier with, with turn times. You don't think he's elite if he's not going to start. I'm not saying that. I'm saying, you know, look, there's a lot of, there's a lot of talent. Texas, there's some stick to itiveness, but there's also development. And not all these guys develop on the same track on the same road. They may be going on the winding road where a Jermaine Bishop's on a straight line road, you know, because he's so, so good and so advanced. But for me with Michael Terry to end this, and I'm going to say it one more time, if you're going to be a 6 2, 225 pound back. You better be the most physical running back on the team, period. You got to be the most physical. You got to be as physical as any player on the field. If you're going to be a 6.
Bobby Burton
2.
Jerry Hamilton
2. I mean, people compare. Like they throw out a height weight comparison. Oh, Eddie George, Bobby. Eddie George was the most physical player on the football field every single Saturday when he carried the ball. Doesn't mean you have the the biggest hits, but his mentality, he was as physical a player as there was on a field. If you're a big back, you better do that.
Blake Monroe
We got one other super chat to get to. But first, Bobby, I need you to tell everyone about Von Lane one more time.
Bobby Burton

I guess one other super chat this morning and this one comes from Rodbaver's helmet once again, so thank you for another one. Arlanda Williams Callous and David Gabriel George similar. Is DGG that much better than everyone else? Also I thought Mosley would have been number one last year if not hurt.
Bobby Burton
I definitely think that they're in the same category the two running backs.
Jerry Hamilton
Personally,
Bobby Burton
they both. The thing that they have both is contact balance and then they also have the speed and toughness and athleticism to make people miss that. That is the combo that not a lot of people talk about. They also both are run maximizers and that doesn't mean someone else isn't too. You know, whether it's Noah Roberts or whomever. Right. I'm just comparing those two because that was the one and so I don't. I know people want to people get into this. Oh, he's ranked number one. He's ranked number two. It's like who's better, Monchon Sales or Easton Royal? Let the NFL draft figure out who goes four and who goes five. I mean like is there is. Are you really gonna pick that knit right. And try to decide? My, my take on it though is 3, 500 yards, 59 touchdowns. Just doesn't happen. I mean I just in a single year.
Jerry Hamilton
By the way, it's, it's Cedric Benson stuff.
Bobby Burton
Yeah, those, those numbers are. Are freaky and so and I'm not saying the Gabriel George guy didn't do that. You know, Landon Williams callous has 125 touchdowns.
Jerry Hamilton
Bobby, we do need to make one point on this though because somebody in the chat will never. Well, Jonathan Gray did that too so there is that caveat. We. So they're totally. Look, Jonathan Gray is the first running back I ever remember coming out of high school that had shoulder surgery on both shoulders. Like he was pretty beat up leaving high school and he also had a lot of run to daylight. Toledo was really, really good. Now Jonathan Gray was very talented. Injuries really hurt him. He wasn't the same physical runner I think as he got older. But Landon wins. He's got a great. You know, Jones drew Bill from ucla. We've talked about that. This guy wins on instincts and contact balance. Pure instincts to me like instincts, toughness and contact balance. And that's why to me Bobby what you said, like, you know, the five, seven and a half, five, eight running back that ends up making it in the league have unbelievable instincts, great contact balance. And they have that chip on their shoulder when, if you talk to Landon, he's got that chip on the shoulder. Everybody but same way Jacquiz had to have everybody. Because all the guys who are going to be ranked ahead of him, Bobby, are going to be 6 foot 220, 6 foot 215, 6 1, 210, you know, in Gabriel, Georgia, 6 foot 210 in that area. He's got that, those guys have that chip on their shoulder, too.
Bobby Burton
10.8 yards per carry. Yeah. I mean, in that dis. I'm not trying to, to push on anybody, but that's phenomenal.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah.
Bobby Burton
And that's phenomenal. Freaky output. I would, as it relates to Emmett Mosley, if y' all missed it earlier in the show, you also asked about Emmett Mosley. What Jerry and I were talking about somebody yesterday I was talking to close to the program told me that they, they thought Emmett Mosley might lead the team in catches. You know, and that's, and we, we talked about this earlier. So that is surprising to me because I hadn't really contemplated that. But he does play on the inside and, you know, Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo are going to get some attention. They don't have a, they don't have a tight end that's a prolific receiver at this point. Like, they don't have a gunner helm or a J.T. sanders. So what does that mean for, for the inside receiver there? I, I, I would, I'd be interested. I, that I don't know that he's the number one receiver, but I was told don't, don't forget about him.
Jerry Hamilton
Yeah. Hey. Hey, Blake. I need to add one more thing before we get out of here because it's been brought up like three times now. Beckham Black, who's kind of taken over as number one basketball player in America in 27, the younger brother of Anthony Black. I think we broke that news Tuesday. If you go back and watch the end of recruiting breakdown, I mentioned that Beckham Black was going to make his official visit for the Ohio State game. Since we put that out, I think some people at EYBL Peach Jam have talked to him and he's confirmed that. So Beckham Black, the new number one junior in America in 27, the younger brother of Anthony Black, will make his official visit to Texas for Ohio State weekend. As of right now, it could always change Duke is considered a slight leader. North Carolina, Texas, a lot of people are mentioned in Arkansas. They already got Davion Thompson. Remember that? Long term, I think people are saying Arkansas because Anthony went there. The mom's from there. But Texas is going to be right there. One thing I will say is getting Marcus Spears, who was number one in America after Austin Goosby and Bo Ogden's different. He's Austin guy that registered when DFW guys. And while Beck and Black plays at Southeastern Prep in Orlando for David Peavey, which he should, this is still registering. Things are starting to register in state and basketball again. For Texas, it's going to register when you get the number one player in the state and Goosby, then you get Marcus Spears right with it. Beck and Black, the new number one. Duke in Texas and North Carolina will battle that one out. I think a lot of that will come down to does Darren Rippey go pro after this year? Does I, J. Johnson go pro? What's that projection around these programs for Beck and Black?
Blake Monroe
All right, that's gonna do it for this episode of Coffee and Football, presented by Von Lane. I want to thank Von lane along with SeatGeek and prize picks Hexclad and Zen AI all for sponsoring today's show. Of course, thank you all for tuning in as well. Bobby Burton
Well, we're on Monon Sales Watch right now for tomorrow. Actually, that's, that's probably the big news. We did mention earlier today or earlier in the show that Texas is expected to get going on the football field Aug. 4 for the start of fall camp. So that's some news then. We also have some other things going on over@ontexasfootball.com Hank and the guys put together a list of the superlatives of the 2027 recruiting class. Right now. Y' all can go check that out. And then tonight we have the live stream as well. Rod Babers, I believe on with Coach Shipley. And then tomorrow it is like we said, Monshan Sales watch day. The July 17th he announces on the Pat McAfee Show.
Blake Monroe
Well, we hope you all have a great day today. We'll be back same time, same place tomorrow morning. So for Bobby Burton and Jerry Hamilton, I'm Blake Monroe and we'll see you
