The Texas Longhorns go big game hunting with Landon Callous Williams. He is the newest Texas Longhorn. Now 22 commitments on the campaign. The Longhorns grab the state's top running back. Landon Williams calls out a Rosenberg Randall. I'm Bobby Burton. Joined by Hank south and Jordan Scruggs. This episode sponsored by our friends over at Pride's Picks. Jordan, I'm going to go with you. Go to you because you've seen him play in person and we're and seen him work out your thoughts on the record setting running back out of Rosenberg. Picking the Texas Longhorns.
Hank South
Absolutely tremendous prospect. You know everyone is they're going to focus on the size. Yes, he's undersized. He's five seven and a half five eight. But I mean some of the best zero to 60 speed in the entire country regardless of position. He can erase angles with ease. He has top end speed to hit home runs will make you miss in a phone booth. He can stack cuts like there's so many things to like about him and he checks every box and catching passes. Doesn't have a ton of experience on Friday nights, but has played extensively on the national 7 on 7 circuit. Played a lot of 7 on 7 going into his junior year and is a kid who loves the grind. He's all about ball. He comes from a great football family. Younger cousin of James and Jaqu Rogers and for those that might be doubting him because of his size, it's worth remembering Jaquiz Rogers played in the NFL for nine seasons and was under 56 at the NFL combine. So Landon Williams callous will have as good of a chance anyone to to prove the doubters wrong with the size and can't wait to see him in Austin wearing that burnt orange he just
Bobby Burton
announced moments ago at the Rosenberg Convention Center. Hey Hank, who, who did he choose the Longhorns over? I know A M gave a late chase. Smu Missouri. But this was a national recruitment.
Jordan Scruggs
Yeah, yeah, this was a really unique one in that, you know, we've been talking about him all summer. He took eight official visits. So he had no shortage of due diligence in, in, you know, looking at different schools, giving serious consideration to other schools. Like you just mentioned, Mizzou has been making a big run at him. They were obviously trying to. To make a huge nil push for him, be one of the first state of Tech, one of probably the top state of Texas recruit ever. If he, if he were to have chosen Missouri for a while, Oregon was in there. They kind of dipped out earlier in the summer. Texas A M, SMU earlier in, I guess late June, we started hearing more buzz about SMU in Texas kind of being the two teams leading the pack. But you know, as you get closer to decision day, you know, he, he went all July. You know, we were all kind of just waiting when he was going to announce. You know, you start hearing more about Mizzou, you hear more about A M. A M wasn't going to just sit down and you know, not, not try to make a push for him late. Obviously Houston would have love to keep him home, but Texas, you know, since that official visit, really since that, that early mid June that they turned a corner with him. You know, he, he was, he was in Austin that first day for spring practice this past spring or past March, returned for his official visit and, and Texas just stayed after him. They, they had the early edge with the shard choice, fell back with Chad Scott and Jabar. Jalute came in credit to him for, for establishing that relationship and really pushing Texas ahead and through the finish line. So huge get and it was no shortage of top competition for the Longhorns to get this one done.
Bobby Burton
Really, really a talented young man. I was watching film of him and have been obviously for the last couple of months since he really started taking a heavy interest in Texas. A lot of comparisons made guys, some people have said, you know, even one of his relatives, Jacquiz Rogers, Jerry and I kind of came up with Maurice Jones Drew as a proxy. A smaller, a smaller height running back, but still a large build around that. Those kind of guys. Of course, Jones drew playing a number of years in the NFL and I think leading the NFL in rushing at one point. Hey, let's look at his stats overall if we don't mind real quick because Jordan, this is something you and I had talked about previous and, and all of the numbers that he has done over time and where he's at historically, he is climbing the ranks of all time. Right now he's at 7,500 yards or so in his career. He's still got a senior season to go. He rushed for 3, 500 last year. He adds another 3,500 to this group. He may be knocking on the door of number one or number two of all time in Texas high school football.
Hank South
No doubt. I mean historically great player, one of the most productive players in state history and Texas native myself, but I will say it's the best football state. So another, another top prospect, top producing prospect. Texas has landed from the state of Texas in back to back years. If you remember, Jermaine Bishop finished his career as the fourth all time leading receiver in Texas high school football history. In the all time leader in the Houston area for receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. So Texas, they love the stat sheet fillers and never a bad strategy.
Bobby Burton
You look at this, 61 touchdowns in a single season. That, that just floors me. Jonathan Gray, the former Longhorn, who I think will be on with us on a coffee and football early next week among the that group also three different times scoring 70 touchdowns, 61 touchdowns, 59 touchdowns. It's just an impressive group of guys and everything. Hank, your thoughts on him and where he's going right now?
Jordan Scruggs
Yeah, I mean you've got to be really excited. I like how Jordan mentioned Jermaine Bishop. They get guys that, that can find the end zone and you know, just playmakers, explosive players. Last year was Jermaine Bishop as a receiver. This year Landon Williams callous as a running back and, and I really like the, you know, what he's done obviously and you know, what he could potentially do as a senior. But kind of who they're now pairing him with, with Noah Roberts in this class too, who's you know, a different, obviously different build, a bigger kid, more of a North south runner. But I think these two guys really complement each other well. You know, Landon, William Callis is going to be that, that flashy player, but Noah Roberts obviously has a, you know, different skill set. Maybe a better pass blocker, but certainly an all around complete back. But as we're talking about Landon Williams, callous, you know, it, it makes high school football, you know, it keeps high school football very exciting. Everyone kind of gets burned out with nil stuff and everything going on in this era. But then you have a kid like this who you know is filling up the stat sheet, chasing records. You know, it keeps Friday nights fun. Not that they're not for any of us, but you know, if you're, if you're getting nil fatigue, you know, this is, this is kind of one of those kids that, that still keeps it fun.
Bobby Burton
Hey, Jordan, you mentioned, you mentioned Jermaine Bishop. Is this this year's Jermaine Bishop in your opinion, from a wow type prospect in state? From the, the net, from the record book standpoint, because Bishop had a whale of a year last year too.
Hank South
Yeah, they are very similar, obviously both big producers, but they're also, you know, if I'm being honest, undersized and that has never stopped them at any point in their career. So I love that they play bigger than their size. They're both wildly popular prospects from the Houston area. I will say Landon Williams, callous, a little more popular considering his cousins. He's also a bit closer to Houston since, you know, Willis kind of really isn't Houston area, but it is. So I love this prospect and he brought it up when he was thanking Dave Campbell's during his commitment ceremony. But he is the first solo high school football player. He's not on the, the front cover, but he's on the gatefold cover right here. He's the first solo high school football player to make the COVID since 2000 when Cedric Benson was on it. So really special kid by far and away, I should say the, the runaway favorite to win Dave Campbell's Mr. Texas Football this year. Jermaine Bishop won it last year and if Landon Williams calls does win it, it'll give Texas its fifth Mr. Texas football player of the Year award. Winner, which is more than any other school. They're currently tied with a M at 4. So a lot to like about historical greatness in Texas high school football.
Bobby Burton
Yeah, Cedric benches good company. You know, the. The career he had at Midland Lee 3 state championship. Author Mark Cameron is a Texas native and a former U.S. marshal who now calls Alaska home. Hey, I'm going to go to the chat line for a little bit while we watch a little bit more. Tony Mattia says the Texas equipment guys are currently in a meeting to see how to fit his name on the jersey. That's a long. It is a long last name. But guess what? I think they're going to figure out how to do that. Tony just, you know, guy rushes for 3,500 yards. They're gonna, they're gonna figure it out. This one from Thomas, was he a high? No, he was not. We did not put one out for him. The last one I believe was Spar Spears, uh, the basketball player that Jerry put out. I do want to ask this though. Jordan and, and Hank. This is the, the ultimate or the final guy that we were really waiting on in the class of 2027 for, for the summer. Texas now at 22 commitments. Yes, Easton Royal. We don't know what's going on there so that's kind of still in, in hanging in the balance maybe somewhat. But where does Texas go from here with recruiting? Because this is the final piece of the puzzle from a recruiting perspective for Texas this summer. Jordan.
Hank South
Yeah, I think senior evaluations are the main thing. You know, I'd probably expect around mid September, late September, we start seeing offers being extended once non district film gets uploaded to huddle. So I think senior evals, I'm looking at linebacker, obviously safety, potentially a late blooming O lineman or a defensive lineman. And then I also think they're going to stay on the big guys that are kind of no brainers like DJ Jacobs or Marcus Fakatou or Monchen Sales if Easton Royal was to end up flipping. So a lot of, a lot of time that has to pass between now and signing day in December. But if I had to make a call right now, I would expect Texas class to be, I don't want to say far from finish, but not finished. I think we're still waiting on a linebacker or two, another safety, a few other senior evals. So Excited to see it all play out.
Bobby Burton
Three to five more in your estimation.
Hank South
I think three to five is a good number. I like that.
Bobby Burton
You like that number two, Hank?
Jordan Scruggs
Yeah, yeah. There's just, there's too much still in play. You look back to last fall, Rocky Cummings, Kaden Share, Jet Walker again, big name guys that you know and like they still need linebackers. They still, you know. Is cornerback a need they're going to go address now that John meredith reclassified to 2026. But I think the one. One thing with Landon Williams calluses or kind of how things have developed the last couple weeks is this would have put Texas knocking on the door of the number one class if not the A M still up there. Miami's up there. But with John Meredith reclassing. They're, they're gonna, I think they're, they're looking more top five finish which obviously you know that that's great if you can sign top 10 classes consistently. But no, yeah, I think they're going to be busy this, this fall. You know, I look at offensive line, maybe another developmental tackle. I know, you know they really like Jasper and Goer. The, the Vanderbilt commit. That's a guy they, they didn't bring in for an official visit yet. DJ Jacobs, another big fish, you know we've talked about is a guy that they're still recruiting from that edge rusher position who's committed to Ohio State but like Texas a lot. He still has an official visit in his back pocket if he decides to take it. So yeah, like Jordan said, like I think we're pretty close to done. But there, there's still a handful of spots left that we need to pay attention to the next few months.
Bobby Burton
This is a great question. Killer, Killer. Is this the biggest Texas born RB commit since Cedric Benson? I, I think it is. So I'll be. Because Bijan Robinson obviously from, from the the state of Arizona, both Jamal Charles, even though he was tremendous, was not considered a top three running back in high school football, was a top 100 prospect in the country. But some thought he might be a better cornerback than running back to be honest. In fact Texas wanted him. Dwayne Kena wanted him as a cornerback originally or the offensive side of the ball said not so fast. And then you have Deontay Foreman who was a good running back, obviously University of Texas 2,000 plus yards. But he also did not have that pedigree like Benson or like Williams callous. Can y' all think of anybody else in that category that you would add? You, you Can Malcolm Brown.
Jordan Scruggs
Yeah, Malcolm Brown. The guy.
Bobby Burton
The guy.
Jordan Scruggs
One guy on the list I'm thinking of.
Hank South
He still holds, I believe the national touchdown record, which I'm not mistaken is like 205 or something ridiculous. So we'll see. And could Landon break that? I don't know. I definitely think there were times last year. And the Randall head coach would tell you this. He's actually Coach Randall. The school's named after his dad. Pretty cool story. But like they're giving him carries because they want him to break the record. He carried the ball like 30 times or bass drop and they won like I think 87 to 20 something. And he was in the game getting carries in the fourth quarter. So the mileage on the tires, it is a little concerning. He hasn't missed any time in high school due to injury. That's not concerning. But you know, we'll see if. If Randall's going to get back to the state championship, it's going to be because Landon Williams calls is another terrific year. They've moved up to 581 with the UIL realignment, so going to have to go through Texas quarterback commit Ty Knudsen and his Smithson Valley Rangers. That'd be a banger of a game. And if they won that, they'll likely end up meeting DeSoto in the state championship. So I can't wait to see his senior year.
Bobby Burton
Do you think he's the best running back in the state? Jordan and Hank do y'. All. Is that. I say that because he's ranked that nationally. But other candidates. Sirod Baker at DeSoto, you just mentioned them. Y'.
Caller/Finn
All.
Bobby Burton
Y' all think Landon Williams callous the best running back in the state?
Hank South
Yes.
Jordan Scruggs
No question.
Bobby Burton
Okay.
Hank South
And Sirod is good. And I think. I think this is kind of a stupid conversation to have, but you could almost make the argument Sirod's a safer bet just given the specs, the size and they're both great prospects. But Landon, again, like I continued saying, he's historically great. So I gotta go with Landon.
Bobby Burton
Gotcha. This one from Epadilla Padilla Dog film shows this dude knows his angles and accelerates. Nasty. Does this influence Royal Easton Royal to stay? What do y' all think?
Jordan Scruggs
I don't think it has. I. I don't think it has an impact on Eastern Royal. I mean, in this age of recruiting and everything that's going on, Easton Royal is going to make Easton Royals decision. You know, obviously he's still committed to Texas, but there's so much that goes into it beyond just, hey, I want to play with this guy. I think that factors in a little bit. You know, it's more of, you know, if you're making pros and cons about a school, I can go play with this kid and we can be on the map together. But I don't think it's going to influence Eastern Royal one way or the other outside of this. Putting Texas in a good, in a good light for the, for the time being.
Bobby Burton
What about Noah Roberts, the fellow running back commitment out of Arizona? Jordan?
Hank South
Yeah, I mean, this. I'll tie this in here in a sec. But with Landon Williams callous, he didn't give anyone a heads up about the commitment. Texas had some optimism, some confidence, but at the end of the day, it's, it's not like, yeah, we know we're getting him. They never came with that sentiment or that notion. So have they had a conversation with Noah Roberts about what this looks like with Landon Williams callous in the same class? I'm not sure. But if they haven't, those talks eventually have to be had. That's just how college football recruiting works. So they have a lot of similarities, but they also have differences and I think they mesh well. It's a good duo. I think it's, you know, more complementary than the duo that Texas signed last year. Derek Cooper, Jet Walker. But, you know, we'll, we'll see how things play out. Right now, Noah Roberts hasn't given Texas any reason to believe they're going to lose his commitment. So, you know, we're. We're going to see how things go.
Bobby Burton
We're now 17 minutes into this live stream, and if you're counting the. The video is still rolling from his highlights. Rocky Poor comes up. Sark is now Chef Sark because he is cooking. Indeed. Look, folks that are concerned about Texas's tact and tactic as it relates to high school football recruiting, I think Sark has proven all the naysayers. Oh, well, this team's all out in front and doing all this early. Texas has proven that group of folks that, hey, this is the way it is. And this is the Sark gm. Brandon Harris, Chris Gilbert, John Michael Jones. Those guys in the personnel grouping, they have an understanding of what they're trying to do and they're going to get theirs. And this is a big get for Texas, no question about it. And also a guy that has, I think, surprising speed. We haven't really talked about that aspect of his game because he's so shifty, but he actually has long Speed, too. I mean, what, a 10 6, 100 meter to his belt, is that correct?
Hank South
1057 is his PR. And I believe he's also gone 2181 or 2182 in the 200 meter. He's run track his entire life. That whole family has kind of since they came out of the womb. But yeah, definitely a speedster, top end burner. He can hit home runs.
Bobby Burton
All right, we're waiting. And to see if we can't get Jerry Hamilton, Our Jerry Hamilton is down on site at the Richmond or Rosenberg Convention center where Landon WILLIAMS Callous just 15 minutes or so ago selected the Texas Longhorns over Texas A&M SMU, Houston, MO and a host of others. I believe he ended up with 70 college scholarship offers around the country. But we will see if we can get Jerry in as quickly as possible. Before we go there, we're going to actually also take some questions here from the chat, if we can get them. This one from Antoine, is Ashton Genty a good comp for Landon Williams?
Hank South
Cows.
Bobby Burton
What do y' all think of that one? I think Genti's a little bigger, isn't he? Yeah, than Williams Gallus.
Jordan Scruggs
What's Genti size? What do you think, Jordan?
Hank South
I think genti was like five, nine and a half or 510 at the combine and in college I think he was north of £200. Not that Landon Williams callous won't be, but it is a good comp trying to come up with guys. I know Bobby and Jerry have brought up Maurice Jones. Drew. I like that one. I don't know. It is hard because you see a small guy and you naturally want to comp them to small guys who usually can win with power, like Maurice Jones. Drew. But he's kind of a speedster. He's going to run around you and make you miss. So I like.
Jordan Scruggs
I like DeAndre Swift. I've seen that brought up with him. But they're very similar in kind of the acceleration, the shiftiness, track backgrounds I and similar stature. I think. I think DeAndre Swift's maybe a shade under five' nine, but I've seen that comp thrown around with him, and that's kind of the one I've gravitated towards more. And obviously we can. We've seen what DeAndre Swift can do at Georgia and then in the NFL.
Bobby Burton

Pass on that name because I can't see it. If he was wanting to be in a one running back class talking about Landon Williams callous, he wouldn't have come here. I clearly. Because Noah Roberts is already in the class. The question Is. Does Noah Roberts feel similarly? We asked Noah Roberts, you know, if he m minded an additional running back in the class. He's like, no, because you always need more people. You don't want to put too much tread on the tires, as Jordan alluded to earlier in this situation. All right, we are, by the way, 34 days from kickoff for. At 34. No, 35 days today is. It'll be 35 days from today. So five weeks from the first game against Texas State. Gonna be a big. Should be a lot of recruits there as well, guys on that very first game. One of the things that happened earlier today that I do want to bring up in this video is the announcement or the ruling out of Colorado about them allowing 20, the class of 22, 20, 20, 22, an injunction so that they can automatically have five for five right now. And the NCAA is still appealing that. But that would open up a host of possibilities for folks that graduated in 2022 with a number of different teams. Obviously, we've been tracking the Cole Hudson situation, but this would open it up even further to some guys that have been in NFL camps to this point. You know, having talked to some, with some folks behind the scenes, it's going to be interesting how Texas approaches that over the next week or two as the NCAA files this appeal and whether or not some folk. Some guys that Texas or whoever might want actually do enter the transfer portal and are able to be plucked from it. Prior to the start of the season, you mentioned three to five players in recruiting. There could be three to five guys in a transfer portal right now. Talk to one general manager in the Big 12 today, and they are treating it like a normal big 12, a normal transfer portal just for the class of 2022. So I did want to address that because that's something that came up also. Another thing that came up is since we last Talked, is the SEC and Big 12, our Big 10, excuse me, acquiesced to the Save College Sports Act. I'm not sure that's in the best interest of the sec or in the best interest at least of Texas. But Texas is a member of the sec, so we'll see how that goes. It'll likely pass the Senate, but then it ends up in the House and we'll see where that goes from here. All right, Jordan and Hank, I guess we're not. We're not. I'm getting a note that we're probably not going to get Jerry because the connection there is very difficult. Y' all have any final thoughts for this pledge from Landon Williams callous.
Jordan Scruggs
I think for me, you know, in like when I talked about this nil era and, and everyone's, you know, has different thoughts on recruiting negative or positive. This is, this is a massive win for just classic recruiting. You want to keep your best players home in state. In state recruiting is the lifeblood of your program. It always will be. And when you have a kid like Landon Williams callous just down the road, that's a kid you don't want to let leave the state of Texas or
Jerry Hamilton
you know, not come to.
Jordan Scruggs
Not come to your. Not come to Texas. So this should excite every Texas fan. This is a massive, massive win. Great way to kick off the month of August. You know, it's felt kind of weird. You know, the John Meredith reclass last week was our first kind of dabble back into commitments or you know, big breaking recruiting news because everything really happened in late June, in the first part of July. But this is, this is a good way to get the month of August started. Good way to kind of reignite that momentum going into the season. However you want to finish, whether it's circling back on 2022 guys that you might want to get in late or 2027 senior evals or even 2028 recruiting moving on to next year cycle. So massive win. Texas fans should be pretty happy tonight.
Hank South
Jordan. Me personally, I, I want to focus on the job. The staff did the job Jabar Luke did. Yes, he's been getting recruited for four years, but he was recruited by three different running backs coaches in three of those years. That is not something that's easy to overcome. And I'm bringing this up because whenever I went and saw Landon Williams cows playing a 7 on 7 tournament, it was at Duncanville, February of last spring. While I'm there, news breaks to Shar Choice is interviewing with the Dallas Cowboys and I bring that up in a question. Hey, have you seen that to Shard choice stuff? When I'm interviewing him, he's like, no, what are you talking about? I'm like, he's interviewing with the Cowboys. I don't know any information if we'll take the job, but that is a possibility. He told me, damn, I was gonna go there. That's what he told me. Talking about the shard choice in Texas. And I held on to that one for a long time because under Chad Scott he was not going to Texas. And I do think not that Chad Scott did a bad job. I just think the personalities of Landon Williams callous in his camp mesh better with your Barger Luke and Sharp choice than they did with Scott. And that's just how it was. Sometimes coaches and players won't click. It is what it is. But what a job by Jabarja Luke to get this thing done. And I brought this up on the commitment video we filmed as well. When I went and saw Landon at his school in February and sat down with him and his head coach in his head coach's office, I said, hey, it seems like Texas behind a few other schools right now. Why is that? And he says they're hiring a new running backs coach every year. I know this isn't going to be a normal thing that continues, but you're going to lose good coaches when they get promotions. And when that happens, I need to know the rest of the staff better and my family. And I don't have relationships with anyone on the staff. That has to change and that has changed. And Jabarja Luke spearheaded that. I believe Jamal Fenner was also involved in this one. Steve Sarkeesian, Brandon Harris, Chris Gilbert. So a lot of things to like about this one for Texas. Obviously a great player, but what an effort, what a team effort from the staff top down. Because if you would have told me walking out of Randall High School in February that he'd be committed to Texas six months from now, I wouldn't have believed you because they were far from the leader at that point.
Bobby Burton
All right, we are gonna late late development. We are going to get Jerry Hamilton here from live from the scene.
Hank South
Gary, how you doing man?
Jerry Hamilton
I'm here with Matt Step. Matt's gonna give you his thoughts on Landon Williams callous too. Obviously does a great job covering Texas high school football. Matt, kind of your thoughts on Landon Williams callous as a player, what you've
Insurance Agent/Assistant
seen over the years, I mean the skill sets elite, right? I mean we're talking elite balance, strength, ability. You know, last year if you watch a lot of his tape, he's, he's getting, getting contact in the backfield and still breaking long runs. The ability to make people miss, the ability to run through tackles, I think is next level. And I think when he gets at the, at the college level and gets behind a college offensive line, you'll be able to see the other skill sets. The elite vision, the elite breakaway speed, the ability to catch the ball at that field. I do think Landon Williams callous is a complete back and in my opinion, clearly, the number one back in the state of Texas.
Jerry Hamilton
How many SRO standing room only announcements have we been too? This was a Big time announcement.
Insurance Agent/Assistant
This was a big announcement. A lot of media here, a lot of, you know, a lot of recruits from across the Houston area. I saw Blake Jenkins, I saw Alvin Moseley here. So a lot of, a lot of big time Houston football players are here. Then a ton of media. This was a big deal and I was glad I got to come and watch it. He's a great kid and I'm super happy for him. I've been happy for him no matter where he picked to go to school because he's a great kid, but obviously very happy to get to watch him in the state of Texas.
Jerry Hamilton
That's Matt Step. They did a job. Great, great job covering this recruitment. Thank you, Matt. You do awesome work in the state of Texas.
Bobby Burton
Hey, Jerry, I gotta ask you personally being down there, did he say why he picked the Longhorns over the other team?
Jerry Hamilton
I'm. He has. He didn't come out and say it yet. I'm, I'm gonna talk with him in a few minutes. I just talked with Jaquiz Rogers, the great Quiz from Lamar Consolidated. We're going to have about an 8 minute interview with him on, on Texas football tomorrow. We did talk about legacy. Quiz thought Texas was the best choice for him. And I don't think he was alone in thinking, you know, if you're a great running back and Quiz said, I don't want to call Texas my dream school. But he almost did when he was coming out. The running backs that have been through Texas, the chance to be, to leave a legacy at the University of Texas as a potential great running back following the shoes of Bobby, we're doing this top 25 list in the modern era. We're gonna have five running backs on it. I think all these guys, whether it's Michael Lewis, whether it's Quiz, whether it's Landon Williams, callous, they know the history of Texas running backs. And we're going to get more from Landon on that here coming up in a few.
Bobby Burton
All right, Jerry. Good, good coverage today. Interesting that, you know, leading in. We weren't really getting much intel. We had been saying we felt like Texas was in a strong position, but these, this group of folks kept it really close to the vest headed into the final day. Was there anything down there that led you thinking one way or the other prior to the final announcement?
Jerry Hamilton
Look, I talked about 30 people that were outside the immediate family. Nobody knew. Nobody knew. And it's obvious that he knew for a while because of the way the announcement, the second part of his announcement, which you guys haven't seen because y' all went live. I'm gonna tweet it out here in a little while, but they had to have known for a while. But I do think as it gets closer, I think in Missouri made a big, big run at this late. There is a relationship there with Curtis Looper through the family. Obviously A and M tried to come in late and U of H was probably sneakily more in it than you think because he's a hometown hero here. But again, I nobody really knew. It's funny. Joe Gleason from ABC13, which you see in a lot of these events. We were talking and we were both kind of like, wake me up when. And not, no offense to Missouri, but wake me up when. A record holding running back from the state of Texas picks Missouri. No offense to Curtis. L did a great job recruiting the kid, but that's not how this stuff plays out, guys. It's just not. Hey, by the way, I'm y' all stay on for a few minutes. I'm gonna go see if I can get Landon real quick.
Bobby Burton
I'll be right back. We'll wait. We'll we, we can wait for that. I, I, I may have to change hats though. I'm gonna change.
Jordan Scruggs
Now is the time you need the hat. If Landon Williams callous comes on the stream.
Hank South
Landon's intro to Bobby Burton should be with that hat on.
Caller/Finn
All right, here we go.
Bobby Burton
Terrence Jones says Sarc ain't BSing around. No, he's not. He's really lining up some high end talent, I think, particularly on offense. The skill positions at Texas just loaded right now. Certus lending and realty Brett rascoe. And he wasn't 100 healthy last year. Played, played through, not perfect health. Look fantastic player. We've all said that. State championship. Just an all around tremendous guy. I want to go back to something you mentioned though, Jordan, and we haven't talked enough about it because we haven't known him long enough. Jabbar Jaluk, in his first ever year at Texas, now has commitments from two top 100 running backs in the country, two top 100 players in the country, and Noah Roberts and and Landon Williams callous today. This one's from 817. Again. Jaluke's attitude and personality is infectious. Is that kind of how you see it? And, and is that how he's connecting? Because I recall something Steve Sarkeesian said in a press conference I attended and we asked him about the moves of Wil Must Champ and Jabbar Jaluk and even Blake Gideon. And he said he just wanted, he felt like he wanted a different feel from his coaches, like a little bit more go get them type thing is that, is that the attitude and personality you're talking about that that he displayed to Landon Williams?
Hank South
Cows, no doubt. I think that definitely was something that was attractive. And also to bring up with your Luke also signed arguably the two best running backs in the portal as well. In addition to having a great high school class already, I think yeah, the, the energy, the kind of rough around the edges you could almost say really stood out to him because man like and I brought this up on the video we recorded for his commitment.

A happy home he was offered by Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban going into high school. That is how long he's been getting recruited for both those guys have not coached college football for multiple years now. He's heard every pitch you can think of. He's met every running back coach in America. He's over four dozen offers. He's heard it all. And yes, obviously financial things are important. Texas, they're aggressive there as well. I don't think they were the biggest offer based off what we do know. But the relationship for him to stick, for Jaloop to stick out enough to get this done, I think says a lot about him because again everyone in the country wanted Landon Williams callous. And he's been getting recruited since he was a 13, 14 year old. So for Jaloop to come in after not previously really having a relationship with him at Florida, arriving in January and landing a commitment seven, eight months later. Super impressive. Super impressive.
Bobby Burton
This one from Rocky Poor. Why didn't Texas go after DE quiz Rogers back then? Really straightforward. De Quiz was. Was a smallish running back and that people just didn't think he was going to be that good. Even though he put up insane numbers in high school. He actually didn't get an offer from a big time. Not Texas, not A M, not ou, not lsu. None of those schools offered to quiz. He ended up at Oregon State improving all of them.
Caller/Finn
Wrong.
Bobby Burton
By the way, this one from Yarbrough. How does Laney Williams callous compared to Jarrett Gibson and Relique Brown? Very similar size and back Sarks recruited. Great job fellas. Now time for fall camp. Jarrett Gibson is more of a battering ram type running back. Not any way similar to re Relique Brown. Now there are some similarities with Landon Williams Callis and Relique Brown. I think that Landon Williams callous body build is actually better than than Relik Browns at the same age just to give you a sense. But it's much more similar to Relik Brown than anybody else. All right, let's bring it in.
Insurance Agent/Assistant
This is the guy.
Bobby Burton
Lana Williams, Congrats. Congratulations on your commitment.
Jerry Hamilton
What?
Bobby Burton
Why did you pick the Longhorns?
Caller/Finn
It was just in my heart. And then you know Texas developed backs the past five years. They didn't have backs go to the the NFL. And that's, that's just the plan. That was all my plans to just go to the NFL, make it there. You know that's, that's what coach Sark been doing with his back.
Bobby Burton
If you look at Texas and how why you chose them, we were talking about earlier. Jabbar Deluc is one of the guys you got to know as the running back. What impact did he have on this decision?
Caller/Finn
He had a big impact. You know, we. We bonded. We've been bonding since he got there year and then on. On my ob. Shoot, we was just bonding there, and then we had the same personalities and shoes. We just. We just bond together. You know, we have a good relationship.
Bobby Burton
You come from a very athletic family. Multiple members of your family have played in the NFL. What's it like leaning on them as you go into a decision like that? Does that help you a lot, Landon?
Caller/Finn
It helped a lot. You know, the matter of fact, these past couple of days, that's all I've been calling. I called my uncle Rodney, Jacques and Jaquan. They just been giving me advice to. To follow your heart and then just, you know, just go. Go somewhere where you want to play. You're going to develop, get develop, and then just make it to the league.
Bobby Burton
I landed one. One last question, because I know you're busy.
Caller/Finn
I.
Bobby Burton
When you pick the Longhorns, is that a relief?
Caller/Finn
Offer your back?
Bobby Burton
Because everybody knows that the pressure has to be so great with everybody calling you every day, that sort of stuff. Are you happy to have the. The kind of. The pressure off your back?
Caller/Finn
It was a big relief, but, you know, I don't know. This is something in me that's still, like. I got, you know, I'm. I'm kind of shy, so, you know, I'm still, like, nervous. I don't know why I'm still nervous, but, you know, I know God got me, and he. He's gonna bless me. All right.
Bobby Burton
Hey, Landon, thank you so much for free time. And hook them horns, buddy.
Caller/Finn
Yes, sir.
Jerry Hamilton
Thank you, Landon. Thank you.

I've been to a lot of ceremonies over the years. This was sro. Like, this was a big deal. We said this was going to be a big deal. I'm waiting to talk to Michael Lewis still. There's a lot of people here. By the way, Coach Randall of Randall High is going to be on Coffee and football Monday to talk about Landon more in depth. But this was a big celebration going on here. I'm not sure when I'm going to get home, and I don't really care. I'm having fun at this one. This is a great celebration. They got good wings, too. Everybody's getting wings here. I'll do the, I'll do the corn dog with mayo Monday on the show. But this was sro. This is a great event. This was well put on. And I, and I thought it was. This is one of the best commitment ceremonies I've been to in my years. It was a lot of fun.
Bobby Burton
All right, Jerry, one last thing for you before we let you go. What are his. You just stood next to him. What are his height and weight?
Jerry Hamilton
Well, I just got, I almost got tackled by Jaquiz Rogers because I said, when I was interviewing Jacquiz, I said, you're five, six and a half. He looked at me, said, I'm five, seven. I said, okay, the driving, the driver's license says five, seven. I would say it's very similar. Five, seven and a quarter, about 197, 198.
Bobby Burton
Bit well put together, even though he's a little on the shorter side. All right. Hey, Jerry, thank you so much, buddy. We appreciate you. We'll get more from Jerry Hamilton. Jaquez Rogers will be talking about him tomorrow as well. That's going to do it for tonight. I want to say thank you to our sponsor. Our sponsor of this evening's show was Prize Picks. Just another just keep stacking classes, I guess, is the best way to put it if you're a Texas Longhorn fan. And good things will come for Jordan Scruggs, for Hank south, and for our producer behind the scenes, Matt Hudson. I'm Bobby Burton and Landon Williams Callis. Hook them horns buddy.

Episode Title: DECISION DAY: 4-Star RB Landen Williams-Callis
Host: Bobby Burton
Guests: Hank South, Jordan Scruggs, Jerry Hamilton (live on site), Matt Stepp
Date: August 2, 2026
This episode centers on the major recruiting news that 4-star running back Landen Williams-Callis has committed to the Texas Longhorns, bringing their 2027 class commitment total to 22. Host Bobby Burton, alongside recruiting analysts Hank South and Jordan Scruggs (with later live input from Jerry Hamilton at the commitment ceremony), breaks down Williams-Callis’s game, the recruitment saga, what this means for Texas recruiting, and the broader implications for the program and the state of Texas high school football.
[02:05 – 03:38]
Quote:
“Some of the best zero to 60 speed in the entire country regardless of position. He can erase angles with ease.”
– Hank South [02:39]
[03:38 – 05:20]
Quote:
“Credit to [RB coach] Jabbar Jaluke for establishing that relationship and really pushing Texas ahead and through the finish line.”

[05:20 – 07:37]

– Hank South [14:25]
[30:15 – 31:30; 31:30 – 33:46]
Quote:
“When I went and saw Landen...in February...it seems like Texas [was] behind a few other schools. Why is that? ‘They’re hiring a new running backs coach every year.... I don’t have relationships with anyone on the staff. That has changed, and Jabar Jaluke spearheaded that.’”
– Hank South [31:30]
[33:54 – 35:13]

“The skill set’s elite—elite balance, strength, ability.... Getting hit in the backfield, still breaking long runs...ability to run through tackles is next level.... Clearly the number one back in the state.”
– Matt Stepp [34:07]
[43:48 – 45:50] Williams-Callis expresses his reasons for picking Texas:
Quotes:
“It was just in my heart. And then, you know, Texas develops backs.... that’s just the plan: to go to the NFL, make it there. That’s what Coach Sark been doing with his backs.”
– Landen Williams-Callis [43:55]
“[Jabbar Jaluke] had a big impact. We’ve been bonding since he got there.... We had the same personalities, and...we just bond together. We have a good relationship.”
– Landen Williams-Callis [44:24]
“It helped a lot. These past couple of days, that’s all I’ve been calling—my uncle Rodney, Jacquizz and JaJuan—they just giving me advice to follow your heart and...go somewhere you’ll get developed and make it to the league.”
– Landen Williams-Callis [44:52]
Both the hosts and guests agree: This is a landmark commitment for Texas, giving them a dynamic playmaker, a local superstar, and a momentum boost for a class that could be among the nation’s best. The recruitment showcased the effectiveness of Texas’s staff, the continued importance of in-state talent, and delivered an electric moment for Longhorns fans leading into the season.
“This should excite every Texas fan. This is a massive, massive win. Great way to kick off the month of August.”
– Jordan Scruggs [30:43]
“If you would have told me in February he’d be committed to Texas six months from now, I wouldn’t have believed you…what an effort from the staff, top down.”
– Hank South [33:46]
