Welcome to the Otherworld Patreon. I'm your host, Jack Wagner. This is a preview of a full bonus episode that's available right now@patreon.com Otherworld the format of this episode is a bit different than the ones I've done before. In many ways, this episode is sort of unfinished. I think it's as finished as it'll ever be. You know, there's a chance it'll never be finished. At least not how I was maybe hoping to finish it originally. But I think for now that's fine and you'll understand why this is an episode that probably would have come out a really long time ago on the main feed as a simple short story without any sort of follow up whatsoever if I didn't tend to let my curiosity get the best of me and complicate things. But, you know, making my own job difficult is one of the things I'm best at. So here we are. So, yeah, I've been holding onto this one for a little too long. And I think the best move is for me to just put this out and walk you through the process of everything so far. Maybe one day I'll end up finding some answers and being able to finish it. Or maybe it will exist on here as it is. The story was actually brought to me by somebody named Paulina Creek. She is the host of a show called Caribbean Mystics. And funny enough, she brought me this story saying that she had been working on it in the past, but didn't get to do anything with it and thought that maybe I would be able to figure it out. I thought so too, but, you know, here I am. I do love this episode. I love this story. I'm still kind of scratching my chin over it, and I think the person you're about to hear from feels exactly the same. But this is a show about mysterious things. And a lot of times those things remain a mystery. Let's get this started. This episode is called Shawn Rue and you're listening to the Otherworld Patreon.

So one of the things I like to do was I had a little bucket. It was probably Smurfs or, you know, Barbie, whatever. I would pick berries if they were in season. And my mom would bake pies, which, you know, was awesome. Cause I got the stuff she's putting in the pies. So one day it was just me, my mom and dad, my siblings were doing other things. And it was close to the end of summer. My father was closing up the cabin for the next season. I believe it was deer season that would be coming, so he wanted to get that all squared away. And I went up with him. My mom's in the cabin, my dad's doing stuff by the van. Back and forth they're going. And I'm in the back on the outline of where he mowed and where the brush grew. And then there was the hunting stand. So I'm picking berries, you know, what's left, and I hear a noise, you know, I don't know if it was twigs, if it was rock. So I look up and right past the hunting stand, near the tall grass and where the wood started again, I see the grass moving. I'm thinking maybe it's a deer, because I wasn't afraid of those. And I was pretty excited and I thought maybe I'd get lucky and have a Bambi moment and be able to pet a deer. So I'm watching and I'm all excited. And then the grass starts moving really fast, just crazy fast. And it's like coming towards me. From what I could see, I mean, I was a kid so I couldn't see that far past it. And then right where the grass started out popped a little man. He was smaller than me. He had rust color hair on more on the lighter side, it was kind of like almost if a bowl cut grew out, you know, shorter here, shorter there. He had buckskin clothing on and it looked like it was homemade sewn because the sewing on it was. You could see it, it was visible. I mean the shirt was cloth, but you could tell it was homemade. Like everything, kind of like mishmashed, if that makes sense. Like you could see the seam work on it. He had a knife on his side and a belt. It was silver. It had a little bit of a hilt on it. I would say it went to his mid thigh. So it wasn't a pocket knife, but it wasn't anything like a bowie knife either. And I believe he had a sash on. He had a vest, a shirt, pants, and then buckskin boots and everything looked like it was homemade. It was weird to me.
Okay, let me read this to you. So it looked to be a small child, but something was off. It was actually a man, but about three to three and a half feet in height. He had rust colored hair with round useful features, but appeared older when he smiled. He had like sharply pointed baby teeth.
Jack Wagner
Yeah, sharply pointed what?
Paulina Creek
Like sharply pointed baby teeth.
Jack Wagner
Baby, just repeat.
Paulina Creek
Baby teeth. Like small teeth, like a child's teeth, but they were sharp and pointed.
Jack Wagner
Where did that come from? Where are you getting that?
Paulina Creek
It was a story that was submitted to us, but it takes place in Pennsylvania in the United States.
Jack Wagner
It's funny. Was that creature supposed to be a fairy?
She said that it was trying to beckon her into the woods. The reason we thought of you is that she said that she saw something in a book of Irish folktales later that looked exactly like this. She wasn't sure what it was because it was so long ago.
Right now. I thought for a moment when she was just reading it or describing it there, it almost sounded like, for a moment, like a leprechaun.
Yeah. Are there stories of leprechauns carrying a blade?
No.
