If you went to Vegas in August and bet on Indiana vs Oregon and Miami vs Ole Miss in the semifinal of the College Football Playoff, you would own the casino right now. That is statistically the most unlikely Final Four in the history of the College Football Playoff. The odds makers thought it was more likely for an alien invasion to happen than for the Hoosiers to be the number one seed. And it's been absolute chaos. I mean, you're Talking about a 99% chance according to Vegas that Indiana would not be be here right now doing what they're doing. We're living in a 0.1, 0.99 timeline. This isn't just a bracket buster. This is what you call a simulation glitch. Now, you look at all four teams that made into the playoff or that should I say the semi finals of the playoff, you're looking at Indiana, who is ranked number 20. Coming into the season. Ole Miss was ranked 21, Miami was number 10, and Oregon was number 7. But look at these preseason season odds according to BetMGM for teams that would play or win the national championship. You got Texas, you got Ohio State. But I really want you to go down here and look at Oregon at plus 900. We're talking about looking at Ole Miss at plus 2, 500, Miami at plus 3,000. And where's Indiana, number 22. Oh, number 22 all the way at the bottom at plus 10,000. Ole Miss was tied with Florida and Michigan for probability to win a national championship. The odds makers had Indiana with the same odds to win the national championship as Florida State, a team that won two games the year before. That's straight disrespectful. So when you talk about the College Football Playoff this year, you've got three teams that no one in their right mind thought would be in the semifinal. And then of course, there's a juggernaut, Oregon, who was sitting at plus 900 going into the season. Nike money, Dan Lanning doing an amazing job recruiting. But the College Football Playoff has been the definition of out of pocket this year. And we're going to go ahead and dive more into that because today's topics, we're talking about Ole Miss rolling without Lane Kiffin, talking about Miami actually being back. The U is back now. And then we got Indiana being a number one seed Cinderella. And of course, we got our out of pocket moments of the week. We can't wait to get this bad boy started. So make sure y' all like and subscribe to our YouTube channel because you're the only Reason we can get this done. Let's have some fun. And of course, I'm co hosted with the 104 time All American, the amazing, the one and only, Greta Griffin. What we got today.
B
Let's get to opening drive. As you were saying, that college football semifinals are absolutely out of pocket right now. Let's talk about Lane Kiffin and his ultimate betrayal of Ole Miss. He abandoned Ole Miss for LSU right before the playoffs happened. And then Ole Miss came back from being down 2112 to upset Georgia. Do you think Ole Miss is better without Lane Kiffin?
A
No, I think Ole Miss is better because of Lane Kiffin. Okay, now let me explain this to you. Ole Miss, right now, they're like the Headless Horseman, okay? They are searching for blood. Headless Horseman, because, right, the head of their head coach, the head of their body is gone. He spurned them for lsu. So what have they done? They've gone about it and said, you know what? You don't think that we can win big at Ole Miss? We're going to prove to you that we can. So Lane Kiffin, in a way, has created or will create two monsters. The first monster is Ole Miss because they're going to be like the scornedex girlfriend, the scorned ex wife who is going to the gym every single day working on her glutes and her core so that she can go pose on Instagram and be like, see, this is what you missing out on, right? Scorned. She wouldn't even. She wouldn't even sniff the gym if she was, you know, when y' all were married, when they were married, or when they were together, she'd be like, no, I'm not going to the gym. Now all of a sudden, she want to go to the gym. So you see players coming out. You see the coaches kind of having a little bit of a little attitude in the. In the press conferences because they want to say, it wasn't just Lane Kiffin, it was us, the boosters, the sponsors at Ole Miss. They're going to say it wasn't just Lane Kiffin. We can do this without him.
B
They have acted completely unfazed.
A
Completely unfazed. I mean, we got a couple videos that are going viral right now of us talking about all these situations and doing skits for him, which, you know, great job. We're having a lot of fun doing those. But when you look at that Ole Miss from that standpoint, I don't think they're better without Lane Kiffin. But I think that Lane Kiffin will be the spark plug that could take them to a national championship. And. And that. That is a truly special, you know, opportunity for them, especially with Trinidad Chambliss.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
And the quarterback coming from D2 Ferris State, you know, led them to a Division 2 national championship last year and now comes into the year at Ole Miss not even the starter. And he had one of the best performances we've ever seen in the College Football Playoff from a quarterback. So you talk about a team that everyone thought they were done when Lane Kiffin left, and they have used that as motivation to go out and have the best season they've ever had in program history.
B
Absolutely. We got RG3's reality check. Who are you checking today?
A
Well, today I'm checking the Miami Hurricanes, and I'm not checking them in a bad way. I'm here to say that Miami is officially back. The U is back. They paid Carson Beck. I don't do that. Don't do that. We got a Florida State Seminole here. The U paid Carson Beck $4 million. Allegedly. Alleged.
B
Allegedly.
A
For moments like this, yes. Reuben Bane and. And. And Mezador are coming off the edge. And. And Malachi Tony is doing his thing, and Mark Fletcher Jr. The running back, is out there running people over, and they're all having great games. CJ Daniels is adding it as well. You got Keonte Scott at DB having a nice pick six against Ohio State. Everyone's doing their job. But for a long time, I. I feel like for the last 20 years, people have been saying, hey, the U is back, the U is back. The U is back. And then everyone's like, hey, maybe. Maybe the. Then they get splashed and then everyone's laughing at them. Especially a Florida State Seminole here would certainly be one in that category of people who's laughing at them. But now I don't feel like the swag is fake. I don't feel like they're faking the funk. I feel like they're finally back to playing in the dominant fashion that we became so used to when we watched Ed Reed, when we watched Ray Lewis, when we watched Warren SAP, when you had Michael Irvin, who continues to go BTA after every single game, put ranking up millions of views all over social media. When they had Santana Moss, when they had Andre Johnson. And you look at Carson Beck and it's like, is Carson Beck their Ken Dorsey? He might be Carson Beck might be Miami's version of Ken Dorsey. Now, I know some people might take offense to that, but the bottom line is Carson Beck has so many weapons around him, such dynamic playmakers on the defensive side of the ball. All they need him to do is what Ken Dorsey did, protect the football, make a couple big time throws here and there. And the fact is, at some point in these playoffs, Carson Beck is going to have to be more than Ken Dorsey and he has the talent to do it. He proved that at Georgia. He's proved it at times this year and he's playing at an extremely high level. So the reality check is the u is back. 20 years or so it's been, but hey, better late than never.
B
Carson Beck also has the scorned ex boyfriend effect. He lost his girl and said, hey, watch this. What was that girl's name again? One of the Cavender twins. I know which ones.
A
One of the Cavender twins.
B
One of them is engaged to that Cowboys player. And then it was the other one. Viral spiral Number one, Indiana is one step away from playing for the national championship after embarrassing Alabama with 38. Three in the Rose bowl is the national title.
A
Indiana's to lose 100%. The national title is Indiana's to lose because they are the best team in college football. They're the best team in the country. I've been saying this for months. You remember it? I, I posted it on social media back in October. People are saying, oh my gosh, why, why is he giving these takes? Oh, this is the worst take I've ever heard.
B
I screenshot at all of these comments back when Indiana kept winning and I'm like, oh, oh, oh.
A
And the point is, like when you've seen it and you've been a part of it, I've been a part of winning teams. I've been a part of losing teams. I've been a part of teams that have gone on incredible runs. I've been a part of teams that you like. I don't know how we're going to get a victory this week. And the bottom line is when you see it and you know it and you can use that experience, I saw that with Indiana. It wasn't just about Curt Signetti and how great of a motivator he is and how he has his team wired. Not tightly. Like when they go into a game, they're nervous, they don't want to make mistakes, but like they got that chip on their shoulder and they operate that way 24 7. So when I'm seeing Indiana doing what they're doing and I see see their running back, their running back room and the way they run the football and the way they control the line of scrimmage with Black and Hemby. And I see the way that Fernando Mendoza can operate in process and isn't afraid to be himself.
B
Yeah.
A
Like people like, oh, well, he's a little corny. He's a little this. Well, guess what? He is him.
B
Exactly.
A
He is Fernando Mendoza. And he's fully bought into who he is as a person, who he is as a player. His teammates believe in him. Surat, the wide receiver is such an amazing playmaker on the defensive side. They lose their best pass rusher and what do they do? They find ways to go get pressure even without their main dog out there with them. So I look at Indiana and I say they are still college football's Cinderella story.
B
Absolutely.
A
And it's because they came into the.
B
Season with the plus 10,000 odds to win the Natty.
A
Exactly.
B
Of course. It's a Cinderella story.
A
And people are like, well, they're the number one seed. They are now in the Colle playoff. It's like they are. But there's still a lot of people out there who still view Indiana as a basketball school.
B
100.
A
They. Last year they were highly ranked. They go up against Ohio State, they get destroyed. Everyone say, see, told you. They're not ready for the big game. So this year, when I went out on a limb and I say this team is the best team in the country, they're like, remember last year? Remember what happened when they went up against Ohio State? Remember what happened when they got to the College Football Playoff? It's like, well, guess what, guys?
B
Last year and this year.
A
Last year is not this year. And this Indiana team remembers what happened last year.
B
Exactly.
A
They blew out Alabama. They beat Alabama the way Alabama used to be teams.
B
Exactly.
A
The call. The. The common casual college football fan still thinks that Nick Saban is the head coach at Alabama.
B
Yeah, thanks.
A
They still think that Alabama's coming off of a national championship. And it's not because they're dumb or anything. It's because that's the narrative that's been pushed. So when they go out and they dominate them 38 to 3 and it's never a game, they treated them like a lot of people thought JMU would get treated right when they played against Oregon.
B
Yep.
A
They treated them like a group of five, group of 16. And Kaylin DeBoer is a hell of a coach. And Ty Simpson and Alabama team, they got a bunch of talent. Indiana's just better. I think Indiana won more fans playing up against Alabama in the Rose bowl and dominating them 38, 3 than they had won in the last two years combined. Because was their coming out moment. It wasn't just beating Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game. It was the way they dismantled Alabama. Nobody believed in them. They're no longer just a nice story, but even still, today they are college football. Cinderella story. The best turnaround in college football history in Kurt Signetti has done that with Fernando Mendoza. That to me, Heisman Trophy winner. They could cap it all off with the national championship and truly finish this Cinderella run, which ain't gonna be Cinderella no more after this year.
B
I like how. I like also how, like the people that in the beginning of the season were like, yeah, but put them against Ohio State. Oh, yeah, but put them against this. And I'm like, but then you did and they beat them, and now you got nothing to say.
A
Exactly.
B
Like, whatever. Viral spiral number two, what is. What even is college football anymore? You know, at this point, we spent the entire year talking about Georgia, talking about Ohio State, talking about Texas. And all of these teams are watching these games now from the couch. So our blue blood programs dead.
A
Yes, Blue blood programs are dead because everyone can get paid now.
B
Yeah.
A
Facts, right? I'll take some time and tell y' all a couple stories about things that players have told me. I'll leave them nameless, but I will mention the schools. One player was going to Florida State, and he told me that they used to pay their players years, years, years before nil became something that you could do. And the way that they would do it is they would just put. They would get them a card at a bank, and they would put money on that card every single week. And I'm like, okay, well, that's not what we did at Baylor. You know, Heisman Trophy winner here. I had to give money back when I got a couple free pizzas. Compliance came and found me and said, you have to pay $20 for these pizzas because I got a couple free pizzas from my teammates. I had a player that played at Stanford, and they told me the way that they paid the players at Stanford was they would partner them in the off season with the booster or an alumni who was extremely wealthy. They would either shadow them or they would just go work at their office for a number of hours. And then all of a sudden, they also had that bank account where, boom, randomly $20,000 would show up in that bank account. When players weren't allowed to get paid for internships, they weren't allowed to get free money for anything. And even if they worked, if they were on full scholarship, they were not allowed to make an extra dimension. So when you talk about those two stories. Well, let's talk about Alabama and lsu. I know Alabama was paying parents for their kids to go to the school before NIL was legitimate. I know LSU was ensuring that players, parents, friends, family, sisters, cousins were getting jobs just so they would go to that school. Call it indirect way of paying them. But the blue blood programs for the longest have always been finding ways to circumvent the rules. Always. Now everyone can do it. And what I believe a lot of people say that the transfer portal and NIL have destroyed college football. I actually think it's made college football better because now there's more parody. It's harder to be a team that is constantly repeating or constantly playing in the national championship game, playing in the College Football playoff semifinals. It's harder to do now.
B
Yeah.
A
Ohio State, 35 million dollar roster couldn't get to the college football semi final this year. So you can say, well, you just spend the most money and you can make it happen. Ohio State spend the most money. They didn't make it. Texas A and M spent 25 million. They didn't make it.
B
I love that.
A
So, so what's the, what's the, what's the solution? Well, you still have to spend money. So that's been a lot of money. But now you got to be a better recruiter.
B
Yeah.
A
Now you got to be a better coach. Because if you're bringing in 10, 12, 15, 20, 30 guys through the transfer portal, how do you win? You win because they buy into your culture.
B
Yep.
A
And if they don't buy into your culture and there's a little bit of slippage or you don't pay the right guy at wide receiver or pass rusher or quarterback, man, you're, you're down the creek without a paddle. Now, we saw that with Florida State when they paid DJ UI angel and then he just wasn't a fit for them. You, you look at this and you say, okay, well, the starting quarterbacks that are in the College Football Playoff, do you know how many of them are transfers?
B
Oh, no. But a lot.
A
All of them. Oh, no. Every single quarterback in the college football semifinal is a, is a, is a transfer. Wow. Trinidad Chambliss at Ole Miss, transfer from Ferris State, D2, Carson Beck, Georgia, transfer from Georgia. You look at Fernando Mendoza, Indiana, transfer from Kyle.
B
Yeah.
A
And then who's the last team in there? Oregon. Dante Moore, transfer from, I don't know, ucla.
B
He Came from ucla.
A
Every single quarterback is a transfer from a different school. You, Dan Lanning, you talking about Kurt Signetti, you're talking about all these coaches for these teams. Mario Cristobal at Miami, you're talking about Lane Kiffin. Really? But Pete Golding at Ole Miss, they are great evaluators of talent. They don't just accumulate players and say, well, this guy's got a five star rating and this guy's got that. They do an amazing job of saying, does this guy fit our culture? Can he come produce here, do you think?
B
Also Mario Crystal Ball, he clearly coached in Oregon before, and now he went to Miami and now they're back. Like I said, Miami is back. Do you think Mario Crystal Ball is kind of what you think Lane Kiffin is going to be like. Like he turned Ole Miss into something, but he's now going to lsu. Like, you think Mario Cristobal is kind of doing the same thing in Miami.
A
Damn, girl. She know ball. Y' all listen. She know ball. Because that is a great comparison. Because if you remember, when Mario Cristobal left Oregon, a lot of people were saying, why would. Why would you leave Oregon? Yeah, to go anywhere. Now Mario played at Miami. He. He knows what it means to have the. You be back. Because he was a part of that culture.
B
Right.
A
But at Oregon, you have unlimited funds. You got Phil Knight there, Nike money, where you can have as many jerseys as you want. You can build whole new facilities. I went and talked to Dan Lanning this year as a part of, you know, being with the Fox Sports broadcast. And Dan's amazing guy. Love him. Can't wait to get him on the show so we can have these full round roundtable conversations. But he was showing me everything that they were building. The massive facility that they're building, the new stadium that they're the additions that they're making to their stadium. Like, I'm like, wait, this is unbelievable. Why would Mario Cristobal leave this? Yeah, well, Mario believed he could restore the U, and now he has him back in the semifinal. But by a byproduct of that, to your point, he pissed off Oregon.
B
Yeah.
A
So Oregon said, hey, Dan Lanning, here's a blank check. You come from Georgia to us. Blank check. Dan Lanning has always said, I'm not going anywhere. So to answer your question, that's an amazing point. Crystal Ball created a monster by leaving Oregon and going to Miami. And now they're both in the College football playoff semifinal. 1. I wonder how soon. Because it took crystal ball three years. I believe to get to that point a couple years.
B
Yeah.
A
I wonder how soon we get to that point where we see both ole Ms. And LSU in the college football semifinals because man oh man. Or obviously Oregon and Indiana gotta, gotta go head to head and see that. But that would be one, that would be a story, wouldn't it?
B
Oh yeah.
A
If you saw Oregon versus Miami in the, the college football national championship game. I mean the storylines here are unbelievable. But the, the bottom line is blue bloods in themselves of like you should come here just because we're good. Like Alabama can't dominate like that anymore in recruiting. Clemson can't dominate like that in recruiting anymore. Florida State's not dominating like that in recruiting anymore. Penn State's not dominating like that in recruiting anymore. So like you said, I believe Nil and transfer Portal are making college football better because it's giving parity and you can actually see who the best coaches and who the best recruiters are because now it's not just come here and play and do this because I told you to. You got to get kids to buy into your culture.
B
Yeah. All right guys, out of pocket clips of the week. Cam Newton hates Drake May. That's all I got to say. Cam Newton hates Drake.
A
Me, oh my gosh.
B
Floor is yours.
A
Listen, like this is so sad to me because Cam's my guy. You know, we compete against each other in OT7. You know, it's. I always want to see other guys get into the media game and have success. And, and I think Cam in some ways is missing the mark here. And, and I say that because Drake May is having an MVP season. Cam has recently come out and said that Drake May is not a game changer, but he's a game manager. And if you remember last year, Cam, you know, got a lot of, a lot of play for the game changer game manager thing when he's talking about Brock Purdy. And then I believe like every game changing quarterback knows how to manage a game. Every game manager has to find a way to make game changing plays. And when you look at Brock Purdy, he is a game changer. When you look at Drake May, he is a game changer. But where, where can't be a game.
B
Manager with the when win mvp, you can't.
A
And I think Drake May is, is, is in line to win the mvp. So I, I agree with you there. The season that he's had and how you finish matters. So Matthew Stafford hasn't had an incredible season. He's 37 years old and he and he's, he's really lit it up. But the last couple of games, they faltered, and I think that impacts voters. Yeah, same with the Heisman. Fernando Maldoza won the Heisman because he finished the strongest of the group.
B
Exactly.
A
And it's hard to give that award to a guy coming off two or three losses. So when you look at Drake May, this is, this is where I'm more so coming from. You know that there's this movie. You know, this movie. I love this movie. I think it's the saddest movie of all time. The Fault in Our Stars.
B
Of course, it was that one.
A
Right. So the Fault in Our Stars, like that movie could come on for three minutes. I'm balling. I don't know what it is. It's just something about the storytelling and the love and, and, you know, the unfortunate dying love that hits me hard. Like, I love, love guys. But in that movie, the point of the movie is never meet your heroes, because sometimes your heroes don't turn out to be the person that you think they are. And that's what I see here with Cam Newton and Drake May. Drake May loved Cam Newton. Yeah. He did his celebration on one of his touchdowns with the Superman chest. Open it up. He talked about at the draft when he was drafted with Cam Newton right next to him, that he used to like run to the TV to watch Cam play because he was a huge fan of him. And I'm not saying that guys being a fan of you means you can't break down their play or be constructively critical about what they're doing right or doing wrong, but it feels like every time Cam has talked about Drake, he's trying to tear him down unnecessarily. And I just feel like if, if I could give any advice to my guy and he doesn't have to take it. Right. He's fully entrenched in this media game. And, and, and I don't want to say getting clicks and all that, but he's fully entrenched in that he's a full time content creator and his platforms are doing incredible. Just take a step back and ask yourself, is this helping? Is this helping because Drake May loves the guy.
B
Yeah, he really does.
A
He loves him. And you don't want to be that guy. There's so many players that hate players that are in the media because of things like that.
B
Exactly.
A
That's not worth the click. Support that young man. And then when he starts to falter, then you can give constructive criticism. But to, to give criticism when he's rising and he's bawling and he's about to win mvp.
B
Unnecessary.
A
That's unnecessary.
B
So, all right, baby, be honest. Which of these four teams would be the absolute wildest national championship?
A
Of the four teams? The Wild. The wildest. Between Indiana, Miami, Ole Miss and Oregon, the wildest would be Ole Miss because I know right now there's a lot of players on Ole Miss's team that are planning on transferring to LSU to go be with Lane Kiffin.
B
I can see that for sure.
A
If they win a national championship, I don't think any of them are going to be.
B
Wait, tell me, tell me again who's playing who in the semifinals?
A
So in the semi final matchups, we got Oregon going up against Indiana.
B
Okay.
A
And we have Ole Miss going up against Miami.
B
Do you think the college football committee. We've talked about the college football committee so many times this season. Do you think they would have an absolute heart attack if the. If the final is going to be Indiana and Ole Miss instead of Oregon, Miami, Me.
A
O. I don't. And, and I know there's a lot of conspiracy theories out there of like the committee wants these teams facing off against each other, wants this type of final. I think right now, when you look at this, the best story in college football is Indiana and Ole Miss and Ole Miss. Those are the best stories in college football.
B
There's a story behind there. They're okay with it.
A
I. I think they'll be okay with any of them.
B
Okay.
A
I don't think. I think all these teams would rate extremely well. I think each coach, Kirstign Eddy and Dan Lanning, they're a draw. I feel like Mario Crystal Ball and Pete Golding because of Lane Kiffin has now become a draw.
B
Okay.
A
So I don't think there's a way that you could lose in this situation. Our kid is going nuts back here. I think there's a way you could lose in this situation. What's a more interesting matchup? The more interesting matchup is Oregon Miami. The bigger matchup, in my opinion is the Cinderella number one seed, Indiana going up against Ole Miss, who are the headless Horsemen without their head coach, Lane Kiffin. So regardless, I know we're in for a great college football playoff semifinal weekend. And listen, this is going to be a blast.
