I'm on the outside or where, where like hockey commentary is at. I think this setup for these playoffs, I'm done with it. Fuck it.

I want the 1 through 8.

I can't stand the fact that in the west the best teams have to play each other. Who. Who's it right now is gonna be the night? The Knights in the Oilers or no one's not set?

[Yan]

No, the Colorado, Minnesota one. You're gonna. You're gonna be losing a contender in the first round, which kind of sucks.

[Big Cat]

It's crazy to me. And then I saw that, you know, like in the east, what, Minnesota, Dallas. Yeah. In the east, it's. It's kind of similar where you have some really good teams that are going to knock each other out. What do you do? Do you think it's ever going to change back? And where does like hockey Twitter land on it?

[Yan]

I think everybody's on our page that they want it 1 through 8. I know some guys like Ryan Whitney want 1 through 18, which I don't think will happen just because of the travel and stuff. But Bettman loves this, the setup that we have now. He thinks it brings a lot more rivalries into the divisions and stuff, which I do agree with. But they got to figure a way to get it where it's one through eight. Because when you lose in teams, especially nowadays with the parody of the league being so good, when you're losing contenders in the first round, like, at the end of the day, like, guys are going to lose jobs over that. Like a coach. If you lose in the first round, you're. You could be on the hot seat, a gm. If you lose in the first round, you could be on the hot seat. Even though you're going to lose to a team that you know is going to eventually maybe go on to win the Stanley Cup. So it's tough. I would like to see one through eight. I don't know. Gary seems to kind of shut it down every time it's talked about. Maybe the numbers behind the scenes stuff are in his favor. So, so whatever he's doing right now, the league's in such a good spot, you can't really question his. His what, what he's doing.

Yeah, like, like just for example, the, the Sabers are back in the playoffs for, for the first time in 15 years. Incredible story.

The 7 and 8, the Flyers and the, and the Penguins are playing each other. Like if you just go straight points and then the Sabers have to play the fifth seed if you go straight points in the Bruins. That's so stupid.

Yeah. And, but that kind of feeds into what Bettman wants is like that the battle of Philadelphia or Pennsylvania with the Flyers and Penguins, which will be awesome. All those series are always awesome. Sid rips up the Flyers when he plays, so look for him to be a monster. So I think when you look at it that way, with the matchups that you get, he. You kind of, you know, agreeing with him. But yeah, you're gonna lose good teams in, in the, the Boston Buffalo one as well. It's like, like, you know, you win your division. Oh, here you go. You get to play the Bruins, who have been great this year.

Yeah, yeah, I, I agree with Big Cat. I don't like that. If you're trying to engineer rivalries to happen in the playoffs, like, let that happen naturally and let that be a rivalry that like we can maybe hope to look forward to if everything shakes out correctly in the playoffs. Not like you get it in the first round. I, I agree. I think that's. You got to go 1 through 8. Every other sport does it that way.

Yeah, I, I agree. I think it should be because, you know, what's the incentive to, you know, some of these games tonight? Like there are some games that will matter your kind of. If Anaheim goes out and loses or if they. I don't know exactly what it is. If they lose, I think they play Edmonton. If they win, they play someone, whatever it is, so you can kind of control your own destiny. Where guys, you know, the last few games you might want to lose on purpose to get a lower seed, which you know is, is sucky to watch. And I know it happened to us one year in, in when I was in Phoenix. We going into the last game, if we won that game, we'd play Detroit. If we lost, we would have played Dallas. And we had played Detroit the year before and our coach was like, we're gonna win this game. We gotta give it to the, to Detroit because they beat us last year. So we go Out. We won that game in San Jose and then we got swept in four by Detroit. Thanks for coming.

Yeah, it's tough. So Yance, right off the bat, I've gotta take you. Tell me if I'm crazy. I'm, you know, a hockey casual. I start to lock in. If the Caps are good, I'll watch all season. But you know, mostly we pay attention once it starts to get close to the playoffs. I think that this is the Leafs year. I think that this is the year that they're going to win the Stanley Cup.

So can you tell me like, okay, am I crazy to think that.

Yeah, I mean, just like a lot of Leafs fans. It's a little delusional of yourself to say that, but. Yeah, it's not their year. They didn't make the playoffs last in

the division, I think.

Yeah, they're actually. I think if they win tonight, then they're out of the top five for draft lottery pick which, which would be so Toronto to win this game. But yeah, it's. It's one of those things. I don't see them getting better in the next few years either. And which the only good thing about that is a lot of misery to our boy Biz. Nasty.

Yeah, that. That is a fun one. So sticking with two teams that are actually in the playoffs, the Bruins and the Sabres. Great story with the Sabers. I like the billboard they put up with with our guy Whit. Yeah, he's a real idiot. Like, can you imagine being that stupid?

No. You guys never give bad takes?

The problem is we have so many bad takes that I think like people would put themselves out of business if they got a billboard every single time that they wanted to put our stupid faces up there. But. But we got the Sabers and the Bruins. From what I know about the Bruins, really hot goalie. Maybe the best goalie in the NHL this season. Is this a bad matchup for the Sabers? They finally, they work their way back in the playoffs and then they have the potential of running into to a guy that can shut down their entire offense.

[Yan]

Yeah, when you, when you think of playoff hockey, it's goaltending, you know, goaltending. Special teams will win your series. I think, you know, the Sabres having such a good year and then like you said, it's like their reward is they get to play the Bruins with, with One of the best players in the league with David Postenock, and then you got Swayman in the back end there. So it's, it's one of those things where they didn't. They weren't great against them all year. I think they were. The Bruins were 3 and 1 against them. So, you know, it's. You think of that stuff going into the playoffs, how did we play against them this year? How was our matchups? How did our big guys play? And, you know, their big guys weren't that great against them this year. Kind of, you know, held to off the scoreboard a little bit. I don't think Tage Thompson had a goal against the Bruins, had a couple assists. But, you know, those things are in the back of your mind as a player is how you match up against teams. And, you know, for Buffalo, I think they just got to go in all. All heart, you know, just kind of find ways. And I'm. I'm waiting to see if they have the. The goat head jerseys to, to really lay my. To lay my bet on that first game, see what they're wearing, if they're rocking the goat heads that I'm pounding them. But I think at the end of the day that Buffalo, it's their year to at least win the series. Go on, beat the Bruins. Grinelli's not happy with me right now in the background. Give me the finger. But I, I do, I think, I think they got the mojo coming into this year since they fired their gm. They've been great. Been on a. Been on a nice little tear all year. So they're a fun team to watch, fun team to root for. They got some unbelievable players. Darlene, one of the best D men in the league. Tage Thompson, tnt, one of the best forwards, power forwards in the league. A real throwback and shoot, hit, do everything, fights. He's just a great player. So that series, to me, I think, is going to be one of the best watches for in the first round. 2. Two great markets for TV watching as well. So I think that'll be one of the best series to start it off.

All right, so you say goaling, goalie play obviously matters a ton. And hot goalies at this time of year.

Give me the best two goalies in the east, the best two goalies in

[Yan]

the west, best two goalies in the East. I'm going to go. You got to go. Vasilevsky in there, you know, with Tampa, he's got the track record. He's one. He's huge. He can Play the puck really well, he can bail you out. He's been in every situation you can put him in. Right now he, he's one Stanley cup. So I'd probably put him at the one spot just because of his overall work in, in his, in his career. And then I'd have to put Swayman up there too. He's been amazing this year. Last year a little bit of a slow start with the contract negotiations, stuff like that. But this year he's been amazing. You know, obviously was part of that Team USA team that won the Olympics. He didn't play. I think he only played one game. But still just being around those guys, getting the confidence. So I, I could see him being a real problem in playoffs. And then out west is a little difficult. Like you got Ottinger, who I think is the clear number one goalie in Dallas, but. And then you look at a team like Colorado, who's got the Wood brothers, Wedgwood and Blackwood, who both just great goaltenders. So if one guy's having an off night, you can go to another guy. I know that's not, you know, kind of how it is in playoffs. You usually like to stick with one guy, but their systems worked for them over the last couple years and I could see them, you know, going back and forth. So I think out west it's Dallas and in Colorado, what's the best series

[Big Cat]

in the west to start? I know that we have, like we said, to start. You know, the fact that the way this whole thing is set up, you have in the first round the Stars playing the Wild, who are both teams that are better than everyone in the Pacific. Is that the best series that you're looking forward to?

[Yan]

100%. And that honestly that could be the Western Conference finals any other year. But, but the way it is, it's. We're going to lose one of those teams. But I think that those, both those teams have kind of been locked into where they're going to finish for the last couple weeks. So they haven't been playing amazing hockey or even, you know, playing as hard as they probably will come playoff time. But I think that series is going to be incredible. We saw what Miko Ranton did last year in playoffs. The guy's an absolute moose. He can, he can win you a series. Just him alone. And then you got stories like Wyatt Johnson, who I think he's on a four game goal streak right now, you know, Jason Robinson, who's been incredible all year. I know Heiskin is going to be out for the first couple games as of now in Dallas. But, you know, when he comes back, he's an absolute stud on the back end. Then Minnesota, Minnesota goes out early this year thinking like December to trade for Quinn Hughes, who's a Norris type player, defenseman. So making huge, huge moves in the offseason during the season to bring in players and then, you know, little moves that they made, which I love was bringing in. I know you guys are boys of Nick Foligno. Like, you bring in a guy like that, you see what he brings to that team. Even the short time he's been there with, sticking up for teammates, fighting. He knows what it takes to win. He knows what it takes to, to win in the playoffs. And I think he's going to be a. A huge ad for them. Just to have him on the bench, have him in the locker room, you know, you keeping guys on us on the ice. If someone gets taken advantage of, you know, he's going to be out there next shift punching somebody's head in.

I love that term, moose, by the way. I've started to use moose a lot. Like in D.C. we got the Protus brothers now and they're both. Those guys are both moose, right?

One series we've talked about a little bit, the battle for Pennsylvania, the Flyers and the Penguins feels like maybe the last ride for, for this iteration of the Penguins or we're getting towards the end with it. You don't think so?

No, I think that that Dubas has done an unbelievable job retooling this team and they got a lot of money to spend in free agency. Not saying like there's a ton of unbelievable free agents available but you know they just, they have good contracts. They, I mean they'll resign Geno and I think they'll be right back in the mix in the metro.

Yeah. People think, people think Sid's like on his way out. Like you got to put him in the same category as Tom Brady. Like these guys, they're built differently. They can play for however long they want to and, and put up great numbers. Like he just had his 21st season of over a point a game which is unheard of. And I know we all said it like that. I love New York. I love New York. The organization is great as well. And now that you mentioned that, I've, I've told couple people already, like, this is my sixth season. It's like, damn, it's, it's, it's crazy. It's crazy to think that I'm in my sixth year in New York and I love, I, I love the, the, the vibes that we have. I love the city of New York. It's, it's unmatched. City of New York is unmatched.

Your stats are actually remarkably similar too. Like the first. Yeah, the, the first 777 and the second, second, almost identical. You've been like really consistent over your career. Was there, was there a change like when you got to New York, was there anything that you had to start doing differently?

[Francisco Lindor]

Well, when I got there, the league was a little different than it is today. You know, we have the DH now and before it was pitchers and like it was a little different the way they pitched. But, but my game, I take all the pride in my game and just trying to be as consistent as possible. Just try to be the same person day in and day out, no matter what. And I haven't looked at stats. If you guys haven't pull it up, I would like to see it. But it makes me happy that it's similar.

Yeah, it's 3,500 hits in Cleveland and 3,425 hits in New York. We got 508 runs in Cleveland, 514

Toughest pitcher? David Price. I faced David Price in Toronto after he got traded to Toronto, and they were playing, they were making a playoff push, and the crowd got behind him, and he was just nasty. Chris Cell. Every time I came to Chicago to face the White Sox and he was there, it was just like, I hope for. To get one. Cece Savada. Nasty. And then there's was a guy that Garrett Richards.

I don't. He played for a couple years, but he was one of those pitches that was like, effectively wild. It was just this guy important. Oh, he's not going to throw strikes. You'll be fine. It's crazy how I've said it multiple times on this show. Like, it makes sense because you guys are professional athletes and professional baseball players, but when you guys will get it right as a ball, like a centimeter off, it's like, how the hell did you do that? How the hell did you feel that?

It's just I, I'm. I move with the pitch as the ball's coming. There's times I go back to the play, to the dugout. I'm like, that ball is right down the middle and it's three inches off the plate. Wow. And there's other times I'm like that. I look at the umpire like, that ball is way off and I go back and it's like two balls in the strike zone.

You got to challenge one now just to be so wrong. That was. Would actually be really funny. If you challenge a strike and it's just center, like right down the middle, and everyone's like, what the hell? That would go viral.

It would be, yeah, either the, the best or the worst challenge of the year.

What are the worst challenges?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I just want to see you challenge one and be like, that was way outside, and she's boom, center.

Sometimes in football, the. The coaches throw the red check challenge flag just when they're mad that something happened. Like, it doesn't matter if. If they were. If the referee was right about it. They just wish that it didn't happen. So they'll throw a flag, then the ref will go review and be like, oh, yeah, we made the right call. You're just frustrated. But it. Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds like you're saying, like, when you're up to bat, you look at every pitch in terms of, like, can I hit this pitch?

[Francisco Lindor]

Yeah.

Not necessarily. Like, is this pitch a strike?

[Francisco Lindor]

Is the pitch in the area that I'm going to hit, and if it's not, then I take, and if it is, then I swing. And more times than not, I think it's an area that I get hit.

Right.

You know, and when the ball. The ball is going so fast that when the catchers catch the ball, they're taught to, like, frame and bring it back to the plate. So I look back and he. The ball sometimes catches make it too obvious where it's just like they're bringing the ball from way out of sight into the play, and you see them, like, sticking in. You're like, yeah, that's a ball. But with this ABS Stuff, catchers are trying. Probably trying to trick batters, too.

[Big Cat]

Yeah.

[Francisco Lindor]

You know, catch the ball the wrong way even though it's a strike. So when they hit it, looks back, back they go, oh, that's a ball. They challenge. And it was right down the middle.

[PFT Commenter]

I thought about that. That's a really good point.

We were talking before you. Before we started taping, skipping about some of the different places you travel on the road. We talked about Milwaukee for a second and the Fister Hotel, and it's got a reputation as being haunted. We've stayed there before. We went ghost hunting in the Pfister Hotel. I think we found evidence. You found it? We found evidence of ghosts there. But you've had. Have you actually encountered a ghost there?

I have not. But I've always said that if there is a ghost, he can't touch me.

You know, so if something like that happens in Milwaukee, where I know there's not that many earthquakes, maybe it's a conversation the next day in the clubhouse.

How fun is it? Because obviously this year, you, you didn't play any. But how fun is it playing with those guys that, like, you know, for country pride and everything? Is it, is it, does it feel different than playing in a regular season Major league baseball game?

[Francisco Lindor]

It does. It does. And be. And I tell you why. It's because growing up, you do the same thing as everybody else is like, we all go to the same schools or we listen to the same music and we all have same backgrounds. Then we get bigger, we make it to the big leagues, and then now we, we have so many different cultures, you know, and you show up to the clubhouse, there's country music, and then 20 minutes later is rap, and then there's hip hop. You know, it's different types of stuff, different type of foods. But then when you play in this tournament, it's like, I'm, I'm assuming the Americans are listening to hip hop and country music. Puerto Ricans is reggaeton all day, Venezuela with salsa and Dominicans with bachata, you know, and you eat the same thing. So it takes you back to where you were a little kid.

[Big Cat]

Yeah. Your kids together.

[Francisco Lindor]

Correct. And then. And then after that, every game, it's an eliminating, like, elimination game. So it's game seven every single day. Yeah. And on top of that, you in spring training mode.

And now you have to turn on that switch.

You want the ball to be hit to you, you want it. You want the baseball to be hit to you, you want it.

Struggling defensively, sometimes you can feel lonelier than struggling offensively, because struggling offensively, there's nine of you contributing. And then defensive, you make an error, it can cost the game. So, like, it could be a little more. That's why I don't know how relievers and starting pitchers, I don't know how they do it. Like, think about it. You go to work every five days, and if you don't succeed that day, you got to wait another.

Didn't have my AirPods case on me, so I was like, that's weird. I don't have my AirPods on me. Realized that my AirPods were in my pants, which were in the washer.

We're doing some construction in my house, and I just hadn't turned on my computer in my. In my basement in, like, three months because we haven't had to record zoom late. Just didn't know my computer password and just sat there typing in, I don't know, 75 variations of it. So frustrated to the point that I had to call all business Pete and be like, tell me my password. He actually knew it, which is also scary.

He just knows all my passwords, but I'm happy that he does. But, yeah, I. I think it's part of, like, getting old. And I don't. I don't know. I just. Not knowing your p. Having to call someone to be like, what's my password? Is probably the oldest you could possibly feel about anything.

Yeah. That's actually way, way worse that Pete was like, actually, I do have it.

Well, it's also, I had a moment where I just, I, I realized too, like, I, I, I've said this before, but, like, if I ever get like a catastrophic injury or anything, like, just shoot me like a horse. I'm a give up guy. There was a moment where my wife was trying to help me and I was like this, I'm just throwing this computer in the trash. I'm just gonna go buy a new one tomorrow. She's like, that is the most ridiculous thing ever. And then finally we got it. But yeah, I, I do give up quickly.

Yeah, maybe. And then the other one was just, I just every now and then with little kids, I think this is relatable. People who have kids that they get, they get zingered and they just have no response. I was, I was having a disagreement with my son, my, my soon to be seven year old last night, where he wanted me to go get him something. And I was like, you get it. You have two feet. Go get, get it. And he's like, I went to school all day, I ran around, I went to recess, I went to the gym. You went to work and sat all day. And I was just like, yeah, you know what? You're right. I'll go get it. Yeah. Like, he just nailed me. I was like, I, I, I went through, I cataloged through my day and I was like, yeah, I actually sat for 99% of my day, so that's what we do. And that, that was a little, that was a little hurtful to just be like, yeah, I did sit all day.
