Paris 2024 Olympics Highlights Day 16: Sifan Hassan’s Marathon Triumph & USA's Final Gold Rush Day 16 of the Paris 2024 Olympics delivered a breathtaking finale! Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands capped off her incredible Olympic journey by winning gold in the women's marathon, setting a new Olympic record in the process. Competing in the 5K, 10K, and marathon over nine days, Hassan’s triumph is one of the most remarkable feats in Olympic history. The U.S. women’s basketball team secured their eighth consecutive gold medal with a nail-biting 67-66 victory over France. Diana Taurasi, though she didn’t play in the final, became the most decorated Olympic basketball player with six gold medals. In track cycling, Jennifer Valente added another gold to her collection in the women’s omnium, making her the most decorated U.S. women's cyclist in history. New Zealand’s Ellesse Andrews also made history, becoming the first Kiwi to earn three cycling medals in a single Olympics. The final day saw Italy claim their first-ever Olympic gold in women's volleyball, while Serbia continued their dominance in men’s water polo, winning gold for the third consecutive Games. The U.S. men’s water polo team won bronze, their first medal in the sport since 2008. As the Games concluded, the United States topped the medal table with 126 total medals, including 40 golds. Olympic Highlights Day 15: USA Sweeps 4x400m Relays Day 15 of the Paris Olympics brought record-breaking performances and historic moments! The U.S. swept both the men's and women's 4x400m relays in stunning fashion, with the women setting a new American record and the men breaking the Olympic record. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone added another gold to her collection, and 16-year-old Quincy Wilson became the youngest male Olympic track and field gold medalist ever. Lydia Ko made history by winning gold in women’s golf, becoming the first golfer ever to earn three Olympic medals. The U.S. women's 4x100m relay team blazed to gold, holding off Great Britain and Germany in a thrilling final. Rai Benjamin finally dethroned Karsten Warholm in the men’s 400m hurdles, securing a long-awaited gold for Team USA. In weightlifting, Olivia Reeves set a new Olympic record, claiming gold, while the USA women's basketball team dominated Australia to advance to the gold medal game. Breaking made its Olympic debut with Ami clinching the first-ever gold in this exciting new event. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone once again rewrote history by breaking her own world record in the women’s 400m hurdles, clocking in at an astonishing 50.37 seconds—a time that would almost qualify her for the 400m flat final! Meanwhile, Emma Finucane earned a bronze for Great Britain in the women's keirin, and the USA men’s basketball team narrowly edged out Serbia to secure a spot in the gold medal match against France, with Stephen Curry dropping a tournament-high 36 points. In track and field, Tara Davis soared in the women’s long jump, claiming gold with two 7m+ jumps. Grant Holloway dominated the men’s 110m hurdles, finally securing the gold medal he’s been chasing, and the men’s 200m final saw Tenorio of Ecuador taking gold in a hard-fought race.
