Morrissey to start the week. A concert from Santiago, Chile recorded on November 4, 2004. Widely credited as the seminal figure in the emergence of Brit-pop and the Indie movement of the 1980s, Morrissey went from lead singer with the important and highly influential band The Smiths, to a solo career without skipping a beat.

His popularity has been enduring, some 21 years after this 2004 concert, Morrissey had come back from a self-imposed hiatus at the time of this tour. The release of You Are The Quarry, his first since 1997, went to number 2 on the album charts as well as being certified Platinum.

Always a controversial figure – Morrissey has had a reputation that you either loved him or hated him, and that there was very little, if any, ambiguity towards his music or his stance on social issues. He has been widely credited as being influential in the careers of countless musicians both as a solo artist and as a member of The Smiths, and his talents as a lyricist have won him considerable praise in the Press.

This concert was part of a world tour which began in April of 2004 when You Are The Quarry was released. In addition to the critically well-received album, as well as it’s high place on the charts, a number of singles released from the album became highly successful with the first single, Irish Blood, English Heart placing at number 3 on thecharts and becoming the most successful of all his singles up to that point.

It’s hard to imagine anyone not being familiar with the music of Morrissey or even knowing who he is. But in the unlikely event you aren’t, here is a good place to get started. It has all the energy inherent with a return to the stage after a 7 year leave-of-absence and picks up where he left off, continuing the story he began in 1977.
