This year's girls trip to Telluride was the best. We one upped ourselves with my Sapphire Preferred card and with 5 times points on Chase Travel plus 3 times points on vacation homes with top brands, we got this incredible cabin. It was a mansion and with three times the points on dining, we ordered a wagyu steak dinner and that pistachio gelato was too good. So where should we go next year? I've got ideas. We might have to we might have to reset the Rossini audio from earlier. Seth yeah, your your five point plan to interact with police officers on a traffic stop got a lot of, a lot of reaction from our audience.
Podcast Co-host Sean
You know what? In based on some of the responses, I'm guessing because people are claiming that they've tried all of these and it hasn't worked. Which a. Yeah, sometimes it's not going to work. B the this is the part that people don't listen to or don't realize how, how, how literal I'm being about this. When the officer asks you if he if you know why he pulled you over, you need to be as brutally honest as possible because they never get that. And I think that's probably the key to kind of just like opening up a window of like, oh, this guy's actually wow, what a good dude. He told me exactly how fast he was going. Everybody always says, I was going a few miles per hour over, oh, was I going that fast? Oh, did I do that? If you are brutally honest about what you did, that they so rarely hear that, that I think it just kind of softens everything up a little bit. And the other thing though, too, and there's not a lot you can do about this. If you've already got some points on your license. It helps a lot to have a clean driving record.
Podcast Host Seth
For sure.
NBA Analyst
Yeah.
Podcast Co-host Sean
So for the guy who said, I've tried this and it's never worked, like, okay, so that tells me that multiple times you've gotten tickets, with each ensuing ticket, it gets harder and harder.
Podcast Host Seth
Yeah.
Podcast Co-host Sean
If you're, if you're a guy. So you gotta just do yourself a favor and try to be a law abiding citizen until those points clear off your license. And try it when you've got a clean slate, because they're much more likely to let you off if you don't have a, you know, a speckled driving history. We'll read some of it, but be brutally honest.
Podcast Host Seth
Brutally honest?
Podcast Co-host Sean
Yeah.
Podcast Host Seth
Like if you can say down to the mile per hour, how fast you were going, you're an outlier.
Podcast Co-host Sean
And usually if you're paying attention, this is the other part of it too. If you're paying attention and you see when the cop got you that, I don't know, I think my suspicion has always been that, like, okay, the guy realizes I was at least paying attention as opposed to mindlessly just driving on at whatever speed and then being completely unaware of your surroundings. Yep. So, yeah, if you're like, yeah, I was going 80 when I came over that hill. And, you know, it helps if, like, as soon as, don't. Don't slam on the brakes when you see the cop.
Podcast Host Seth
Right, right.
Podcast Co-host Sean
But just slow down to the speed limit when you see him come up behind you. Just be ready to pull over once he turns his lights on.
Podcast Host Seth
As far over to the right as you can possibly safely go.
Podcast Co-host Sean
But be that. But the part that people will skip is you have to be brutally honest about what you did.
Podcast Host Seth
Okay, I like that. We'll read some of the texts here in a minute. Let's get to Sham Sharanya from yesterday. This was on ESPN News coming out yesterday, to some somewhat surprise, I guess, that Draymond Green declined his 27.7 million dollar player option. That headline surprised people. Sean Sharanya, though, lays out how this is part of a broader plan for Golden State to really, I think, kind of take one last swing at this whole NBA title thing. The whole.
NBA Analyst
The warriors in the last several days formulated a grand plan of putting together a big four of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Anthony Davis, and LeBron James. But in order to do that, they needed the flexibility of Draymond Green opting out of his contract. $27.7 million. Opt out. There was an expectation in the last week, several weeks, that Draymond Green would be opting in, but he's now opting out. And so AD and LeBron James would have to be a package deal in order to come to, to Golden State and team up with Green and Steph Curry. And in this sequencing of events, Draymond Green would opt out, as he did to take a multi year deal at less than 27 million a year. AD would require a trade of Jimmy Butler and draft capital. And then that would mean LeBron James potentially at the mid level. Exception.
Podcast Host Seth
Okay, so this is what Shams calls a big four. And this first move to set everything in motion is Draymond Green opting out of his deal. We won't get too deep in the weeds on the NBA and the salary cap and how it all works, but he would. Opting out of his deal gives them the flexibility that they can go make these moves. Dre, they can always bring Draymond back. And, and if, and if it doesn't work out, if this is just LeBron posturing to get more from the Lakers, if this is Anthony Davis posturing maybe to get an extension from the Wizards, which is where he is now, if you haven't been keeping track of, um, then Draymond Green can always just go back and sign a one year, $27 million deal, which is what he would have opted into in the first place if he, you know, so Draymond's gonna come out of this hole, he may come out of it with a longer deal with more guaranteed money at an advanced age. The most interesting thing about all this, Seth, is that this would be the oldest collection of guys ganging up with each other that I can ever remember. LeBron James.
Podcast Co-host Sean
Yeah.
Podcast Host Seth
LeBron James is north of 40. Anthony Davis, not sure how old. He's in his 30s and he's got the body of a 50 year old. Steph Curry's been dealing with injuries the last couple of years, and Draymond Green isn't getting any younger. Draymond Green, if I'm, if my math is right, Draymond might be the youngest out of all of them. And he's in his mid-30s right now. Like, this would be an old team that probably is looking at itself more like. I think this would be an old team. They would probably load. Manage like crazy in a real world. Would probably just hope to stay out of the play. In. You know, there may be a. In a. In a. Best case, they're getting home court in the first round.
Podcast Co-host Sean
Yeah.
Podcast Host Seth
Cause I don't think this. It's certainly the biggest collection of names you could put together, but I don't think it's better than. I like, I don't think they're competing with the spurs or the Thunder necessarily.
Podcast Co-host Sean
Feels to me. And I know this would be older, but this was an old group. The first one that always jumps to my mind when you throw together old big names was the 2012, 2013 Lakers with Steve Nash, Dwight Howard, Paul Gasol, and Kobe Bryant.
Podcast Host Seth
Yeah.
Podcast Co-host Sean
Yeah, like that. And it was. It was like people. There was so much gushing about that team going into it, and you're like, all right. I mean, but you've got some serious questions and issues here. Just because the names are going to sell a lot of jerseys and everything and put butts in the seats. That's not that. That. That people were. People were acting like it was those guys in their prime altogether.
Podcast Host Seth
Check. That's a good one. I wonder. I Wonder which group. LeBron being 41 now alone, probably pushes this group. But it's. But it's a great analogy because it would be an ensemble cast being brought together, hoping that you can blend this whole thing. And I don't know what the injury situation was with all of those guys at the time.
Podcast Co-host Sean
Steve Nash was at that point, he was 38 years old when the Lakers signed up.
Podcast Host Seth
Okay. Okay.
Podcast Co-host Sean
And, you know, it was. I mean, it just. It was. It was just for it to really work out, it would have to be like, okay, all these guys have a resurgence into what they used to be.
Podcast Host Seth
Well, it didn't work. I mean, it worked so poorly. Dwight Howard signed with the Rockets the next year.
Podcast Co-host Sean
Right.
Podcast Host Seth
He didn't. He didn't go back to la.
Podcast Co-host Sean
Dwight Howard was kind of the young guy in that book.
Podcast Host Seth
Yeah, yeah.
Podcast Co-host Sean
And I mean, at that point, Kobe was 34 years old.
Podcast Host Seth
Yeah. Dwight was probably still in his 20s at that point.
Podcast Co-host Sean
Yeah, yeah. He was young, but he was also an imperfect, you know, Dwight. Dwight was Dwight. Yep. Dwight was. Whatever the hell Dwight was. Well, he's in his 20s, but he'd
Podcast Host Seth
been around a decade already. He came in the league in 04. If I'm not mistaken, Paucasol was still,
Podcast Co-host Sean
I mean, he still had a lot of years after that. I don't know how old he was at that time. Yeah, he was 32. He was so young. So really, see, see, it was, you know what it was? It was the, it was the Steve Nash part of it that was really annoying, was that I like he was 39 years old and people were acting like, oh, yeah. But because he's got all of these guys that he's working with that it doesn't matter his experience, he was going to be what Tom Brady would one day become. A guy that could just be such a mastermind at distributing the ball that it didn't matter how old he was.

curious, check it out@creators.odyssey.com I as a basketball fan, I want this to happen. I think I'm super intrigued by it. I'm super intrigued to see what it would look like. Medically with all these guys for a year together, you know, they're all guy. Even LeBron has dealt with stuff over the last. I mean, Anthony Davis has heard all the time. Steph Curry's been having knee problems the last couple of years. You know, Draymond Green is an older player. Draymond Green might be older than all those guys, but Steve Nash that you were talking about on that Lakers team back in 2013, I. I want to see this happen. I don't know how big a title threat they would be as a Rockets fan. It doesn't really affect me. Like I. If you're a Rockets fan, the Rockets are trying to compete on the level of the spurs and the Thunder. Does this make the Western. I don't like. Does this make the Western Conference harder? I don't know. Is LeBron a bigger threat playing with Luka or is he a bigger threat playing with three old dudes that are, you know, when they're good, they're good players, but they're. They haven't been available all the time.
Podcast Co-host Sean
Right.
Podcast Host Seth
I think there's a chance this team goes into the playoffs and at least one of these guys isn't playing.
Podcast Co-host Sean
That's where. No, I think that when you've got one or two possibly old guys who aren't at their physical peak anymore, then yeah, that experience can make a big difference.
Podcast Host Seth
None of these guys are getting physical peak anymore.
Podcast Co-host Sean
Right. That's what I mean. Like. Like that you need to. Hopefully you've got it. As a guy that's also helping younger. You help younger guys be a better version of themselves. Yep. And then by their sheer athleticism and explosiveness and everything, they make you a better version of yourself because it takes some of the pressure off if you. This doesn't feel like that.
Podcast Host Seth
I'm a little offended too. On behalf of all the previous big threes out there or big Fours, that Sean Sharon is calling this a big Four. Just cause Draymond has a podcast and he's a noteworthy and well known name doesn't mean he's a good player anymore. Draymond's not a good player anymore. Like a big Four. He's a big.
Podcast Co-host Sean
Yeah, he's good player. He's just not. He's not anybody you would attach to the. To. To like. Oh yeah, he's the marquee guy or the attraction.
Podcast Host Seth
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, still, he's. He puts in effort at the D. I mean, I'll give Draymond credit. Like he's a good player as far
Podcast Co-host Sean
as like, yeah, he's a capable starter. Like, yeah, he's. Yeah. Like I'm saying, good. Only that he's. He's. He's a quality starter, but he's nothing near, like, oh, best in the league at this.
Podcast Host Seth
No, no, that's it. But like, a big four, like, right?
Podcast Co-host Sean
No. Yeah, Definitely not.
Podcast Host Seth
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I take him on the Rockets. I would just. I think he bring. He would bring something, this team, because
Podcast Co-host Sean
he's a good player.
Podcast Host Seth
He's. He's a good player. But any. And specifically, he. He does have that dog in him, you know, he. Draymond. I know. I know he's dirty, probably, and he whines a lot to referees. Um, but I'd be. I'd be here for it. Um. Okay. Text message. What if the cop has been wor. This is somebody texting me about how I act with cops.
Podcast Co-host Sean
Yeah.
Podcast Host Seth
When I get pulled over. What if the cop has been working all day and he's kind of sweaty and stinky and maybe Sean's gonna call another cop to rat out the cop for being sweaty and stinky.
Podcast Co-host Sean
Sean will go, Karen, on your ass. That's probably. You know, the biggest thing Sean does that probably keeps him from getting out of tickets is he. He takes his phone out and says, I'm recording this. Just so you know, I'm recording this. You don't have the right. And then he's got a little. He's got a little printout from the Internet about his constitutional rights. Yep, exactly. You don't even have the right to be doing this.
Podcast Host Seth
Yep. I have the Bill of Rights on a Kindle in the shotgun next to me. Yes.
Podcast Co-host Sean

Podcast Host Seth

Podcast Host Seth

Podcast Co-host Sean

In this episode, Seth Payne and Sean Pendergast take a closer look at breaking news: Draymond Green's decision to decline his $27.7 million player option with the Golden State Warriors. The hosts discuss whether this is the first domino in a dramatic plan to bring together a new "Big Four" of Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Anthony Davis, and LeBron James in Golden State. The conversation also examines the real viability of such a super-team – given the advancing age and recent injury history of the principals – and draws comparisons to past NBA "super-teams" that struggled under the weight of expectations and Father Time.
The opening segment features lighthearted discussion of Sean’s “five-point traffic stop plan” and audience reactions (01:30-04:10).
Closing minutes: Listeners text in with comments, including a tongue-in-cheek story about stinky police officers, which spirals into jokes about teenagers and nostalgia for locker room smells (13:40-14:52).
On the Warriors’ ambitious plan:
On invalid “Big Four” hype:
On NBA super-team failures:
On team construction vs. reality:
The episode is sharp, irreverent, and skeptical about the latest NBA free agency rumor mill. While the potential of a Warriors "Big Four" is titillating from a media/fan perspective, Payne and Pendergast forcefully argue that the basketball reality is likely underwhelming given the age and health of the assembled stars. Their Houston-first perspective keeps the hype in check, with plenty of trademark banter and (sometimes, ridiculous) off-topic humor.
