Sports Radio 610 presents Seth Payne and Sean Pendergast.
Seth
We coming to eighth time. Let's get the work in, man. Let go.
Sean
Great day. Great day. Oh, give me some juice, baby. Oh, yeah, let's do it.
Seth
Just fall in the air. Too right center Ridler makes the call and the catch. And the Twins have won this series two games out of three and won the season series four games of 2, 8, 3. The final today with Minnesota winning.
Sean
There's the final whistle.
Seth
Seattle.
Sean
We're coming back Monday night in the
Seth
round of 16, the United States, despite
Sean
being down a man for half an hour, has beaten Boston Herzigovina and has moved on to the next round of the World Cup. It was a tale of two nights last night. We had the. The Astros this. The. The streak is over. There will be no celebration play today. They lost the series. For the first time in six series, the Astros lose a series. But. But the United States won.
Seth
So we move on.
Sean
We move on to the round of 16 set.
Seth
Despite even Pat Mahomes last night felt that it was. That it was an unjust red card on the U.S. it's, it's.
Sean
It's unjust because the punishment is just so severe.
Seth
This is. This is like the extreme version of. Now we've got. Now we've got all the Euros saying, americans just do not understand soccer. Yeah, a little bit. A little bit. A little bit. But it is honestly the red card. And being down a player, like for the rest of the game, just having a power play against you, it's one of the most in rugby, in soccer, in hockey, any other sports where you can actually just be down an entire player, it does make me feel like American football is a little bit soft. Well, you know, God, if you go, if you went out there with 10 defensive guys on the field for, for, for every single snap. Yeah, you just concede the game.
Sean
I'm not even Talking about that, though. I'm talking about the fact that Ballergan misses the next game. Like, that's.
Seth
Yeah, that's a biggie.
Sean
That's, that's the part I'm talking about. Because, you know, we've watched hundreds of soccer games where teams are at a disadvantage because of a red card. And yeah, it sucks, but it's not nearly as impactful in soccer as it is like in hockey when you're on a power play, just because the sheer number.
Seth
It's short lived.
Sean
Yeah, well, it's short lived, but even like 4 against 5 is way different than against 10. I'm not counting the goalies, so I, I, I didn't like it. I didn't think the call was good. I didn't think the red card was good. But at the time, I was way more worried about, holy crap, they're gonna have to play Belgium without Ballerkin now than I was. They're down a man against Bosnia Herzegovina. Hell, they ended up scoring another goal. You know, it was one nothing. When, when, when Balagan went out. That's, that's where soccer, man, I'm like, God, these. The red card is just. That's a, that's a killer, man. He's your, he's your best goal scorer. And now he's gonna miss this game against Belgium, who, you know, they needed a miracle comeback just to get there. They were losing to Senegal with five minutes to go in the game, and they come back and win in extra time, 3 to 2 on a penalty kick. It was a really. It was a fun day of soccer yesterday, man. So, yeah, USA moves on. They'll play Belgium on Monday, and. And on and on we go.
Seth
Belgium's routine before the game, I can't remember, do they have a march or something?
Sean
I don't know. The only two that I know of are the Netherlands. They all, all the orange march to the stadium, all the fans. And then the Norway people have the rowing that they do. You know, they, they row, they sit and they row. The Norway people in a boat? No, no, like a, Like a pantomime. You know, they all, like. You haven't seen. You ever seen the Norwegian people doing the rowing thing?
Seth
No, I haven't seen it.
Sean
I'm just surprised it hasn't. Yeah, they, they sat in the middle of Times Square, all of them, and sat down and rode.
Seth
It sounds a little bit like the old kids in the hall skit. The urban beaver trappers. They used to. They would ride around in a canoe on land.
Sean
No, remember that. No, I didn't see that, but it sounds. It sounds.
Seth
I don't. I'm not impressed. Unless they have actual canoes with wheels on them.
Sean
They don't. And they. Here's the thing they did that was disgusting. The Norway people, they sat down on the subway in New York.
Seth
Like on the floor.
Sean
Yes. And road. That's nasty, man. That's nasty. The floor of a New York subway.
Seth
Germs said, soccer people are just tougher than us.
Sean
I guess so. I guess. Or dirtier.
Seth
Definitely dirtier.
Sean
Dirtier. So the other thing that happened last night is Tatsuya Imai made me look like an idiot.
Seth
Yeah, he did.
Sean
And I really did. I don't like when people make me look like an idiot.
Seth
Hey, you know what? No, Sean, you don't look like an idiot. You look like somebody who trusts people. You. And then. And that's why you're idiots. That's why you're so petty sometimes. It's because you get embarrassed that you trusted.
Sean
For those who missed it. Those who missed it. I have been saying for the last few days that if the Astros had to play in a wild card round, two out of three series tomorrow, that Hunter Brown would obviously be starting game one. There's no argument there. Even though Hunter hasn't been like peak Hunter since he came back. There's no argument there. And then I said, looking at everybody else, Imai would go number two for me right now. Just based on the. Until last night, he had had five really good performances with one stinker mixed in. And if you come at me and say, okay, well, that there's no way it can be, Ima. I'm like, well, tell me who it would be. And a lot of people said Lambert. And I'm just. I think Lambert's pitching a little over his head right now. And I think we saw some of that earlier this week when he gave up the three home runs.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
And, you know. And they lost that game. Spencer Arrogetti is not pitching well at all. And it's been an extended period of time. He's not pitched well. And then who else? Yeah, yeah, Burrows. So Javier is not even going to be a starter when he comes back. He's going the bullpen.
Seth
You know what the pitching staff feels like right now, Sean? They feel like back in 2013 and 14, they had all these guys that were like, really good Triple A players, John Singleton and the like, that just then they would get up the majors and you'd realize, like, oh, no, these guys are quadruple a baseball players.
Sean
Ye.
Seth
They do such a good job with the education and everything or with the pipeline of development and all the things they were doing back leading into the golden era that were so good. You'd get the absolute most out of these guys when they were in Triple A, but then they would get to the major leagues and they're like, okay, they're not really that good. And I feel like the last few years with the pitchers, we have all these guys rotating through that show you, wow. Oh boy, look at this might be the best version we've ever seen of this guy. But at some point it just starts to fall short. That's what I worry about with guys like Lambert or anybody else. He's.
Sean
He's 20, 26. Brandon Walter.
Seth
Yeah, yeah.
Sean
Colton Gordon had a few good starts last year. Who was the big one was Jason Alexander last year.
Seth
Right.
Sean
Jason Alexander, like kept the staff afloat for a while.
Seth
Yeah. They give you just enough to really feel like, oh, there might be something here.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
I mean, that's Dana. Dana Brown brings in six guys in the off season and you're almost thinking like, okay, well at least one of these guys is really going to show us something.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Plus, and then Imai, I mean like Imai, I still, you still see even in the midst of his bad performances where the potential is, he's just so damn erratic. Where now you've got. Okay, Kyotung goes to the Il. When he comes back, he's going to be in the bullpen. Christian Javier comes back, he's going to be in the bullpen. Like blue bottom, blueba Christian, Javier and guys like, guys like Tongue are basically just. You need as many of those guys around just in case my only goes one inning or two innings.
Sean
They're like the IMAI triage squad.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
They're all on call that night. You know, we, we heard that. We heard Emai is going to be out on the town. We need, we need some extra EMTs on call tonight.
Seth
Everybody's been very supportive of him and
Sean
yeah, what horrible timing for Chandler.
Seth
Romeo, I know you wrote that nice article yesterday.
Sean
Long, really good article about IM and how he's adapting to the United States and they've got all these cute little rituals he's got with his teammates and he's learning a little bit of English and he likes these acai bowls and things like that. And then he goes out and has one of it. Like you just look at the box score. Like, oh, how did they get to him? Every way possible.
Seth
Home runs there's got to be. There's going to be a point where when blue ball's warming up in the first inning, he's got to be like, oh my, are you kidding me?
Sean
But it's four times.
Seth
Yeah. Like you just got. You gotta, you gotta. Reliever furiously warming up in the first inning and that's gotta get old after a point.
Sean
Yeah. That's the thing that like, I wonder, I wonder who I'm just gonna use Burrows here as the, as the foil to this.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
I like deep down, I wonder which guy Joe Espada just likes better or feels better about when he trots out to the mound. Because Burroughs are e my. Because their numbers are actually pretty similar in terms of era.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
You know, one loss record. Burroughs is like four and eight. I don't know what he might actual one loss record. Like, Burroughs answered the bell every time Imai missed a month because he was getting his head right.
Seth
Shoulder fatigue, Sean.
Sean
So yeah, yeah, no arm fatigue. Yeah, whatever. Yeah. So I wonder which one of those two because the ceiling with Imai, we've seen like Burrows. You know, Burrows had a few good starts. I'm not going to say he's been trash every time out. But Burrows is at least a guy that, when he goes out there like, all right, I know it's, it may not look great, but I'm going to get five innings out of the guy. Imai is a guy who goes out there and Seth, there's a chance he throws your whole staff off kilter for the next four days. When you have a starter that routinely and it's happened, by my count, it's happened at least four times this year where he hasn't made it out of the second inning. Some of them. He hasn't made it out of the first inning.
Seth
He hasn't. Okay, so these are the times you
Sean
got the game log in front of you.
Seth
The times when there's either a one or a zero in front of his. Okay. He's in his third game this year against Seattle. That was when he went for a third of an inning. And then it was three games ago against the Royals that he went for 2/3 of an inning.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
And then this is the third time that he's gone. He went one and a third inning.
Sean
Okay, so those are, those are the
Seth
three times absolute disastrous disasters. And the first, you know what you're thinking of his first ever. He won 2⅔ the relative marathon for that.
Sean
That's. That's okay.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
I think I was at that Game.
Seth
First game against the Angels, I was at that game.
Sean
Yep. So, yeah, that. That's. That's the pro. The problem. I mean, obviously, it's a problem that you're losing these games. Except that Royals game, they actually won because he came. He got knocked out in the first inning of a game where the team got him nine runs in the first inning. But. But it. But even in a game that you win, the point I'm about to make is valid in that game, which is you now affect the next two or three games because certain relievers aren't going to be available. You know, certain relievers are going to empty the tank just to finish that game that you're in that he got shelled in. It's almost like you didn't have a start. It's almost like it was a bullpen game with a bad opener, you know?
Seth
Yeah, yeah. No, yeah, exactly. He couldn't even come out and give you a good opener. Right. Maybe if they had told them, hey, you're only. We're only expecting you to go one inning, then he could really. I don't know, man.
Sean
Someone. Someone. Just so real quick, Seth, someone just said this, and this is actually a really good point. The solution in a game, too, right now.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Might be to start blue ball for two innings and just go a bullpen game just to, you know, try to end the series. You know, that's. I'm not even joking.
Seth
That's a really good game for game two.
Sean
This has been the best bullpen in baseball for the last month and a half.
Seth
I just. I don't. We might have to play the Espada later, because I know how much you love Espada's glowing reviews.
Sean
Did we get the audio from Espada?
Seth
I heard it. I must have seen it on the Internet.
Sean
Okay.
Seth
But Espada, after the game said, you know, he's been good the last few games. I'm like, wait a second. Last few games usually means three. Three, a few. Usually three or four.
Sean
How many games?
Seth
It was three games ago. That was the two thirds of an inning where he allowed five runs. And then even, like the next game after that, he had that. We were. It was a quality start. Six innings pitched with three runs allowed.
Sean
That was the one where he got shelled early and then was really good late.
Seth
But it was. But I always look at even the quality start that's a little bit misleading because that. That still does work out to an above four era, you know, on a. If you go nine innings, I've Always thought that, too. Yeah. Like, it feels like where you're going to draw the line. Six innings.
Sean
I don't know. So.
Seth
No, it hasn't been really all that impressive for the last few starts. It was in. He was impressive in his last start.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
And it was only three starts ago that he went two thirds of an inning.
Sean
Well, it was good enough for me to say I'd start the guy in Game 2 of a playoff series. And now I look like a dunce.
Seth
Yeah. Because you just.
Sean
You.
Seth
You believe, Sean. You believe. That's why I had to. Remember when Amy and I had to go bail you out of that cult you had joined? Yeah.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
They were just about to castrate you.
Sean
They were like, no, they offered me chocolate. They seemed really nice.
Seth
You remember when you took to the Internet and you said this, and then Seth Payne is texting my wife.
Sean
Right.
Seth
What the hell?
Sean
Right?
Seth
What the hell? You were out of your mind because
Sean
you believed I. I ooked myself.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Yes. So. Yeah. So. So Imai was. He was terrible last night. They're. They're off today. Thank God. The bullpen is very happy that they're off today. No, they off today.
Seth
Yeah, they're off. Yeah. I hope Imai's not going to choose to participate in the All Star Game. Is he. Is that. That's my biggest worry.
Sean
Yeah. No, I think. I know. I think we're safe there. Yeah.
Seth
I think Jordan's not doing the Home run Derby. He announced that a while ago.
Sean
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which I approve. I approve. I don't need anybody messing with Yordon swing right now. That was a good thing last night. He was still getting on base last night.
Seth
I was about to say his. Yordon. I can't remember a notable time where he got injured at the plate, but his hand issues are about swinging the bat.
Sean
Related issues. His big issue was the plate. Was with the plate. Was stepping on it last night.
Seth
That' not as a batter, but as a runner scoring a run.
Sean
He has no issues with the plate while he's in the batter's box.
Seth
He's like Imai. He's adjusting the more slippery American home plate.
Sean
Slick American home plate.
Seth
70 years career. You know. He didn't adjust to the new pizza box bases last night. Poor Delgado.
Sean
No.
Seth
Telgado got that ball that caromed off the pizza box and dislocated his pinky. We can't even keep Delgado healthy, man.
Sean
Hey. Baseball Talk on Sports Radio 610 is presented by Xfinity Score, the most reliable Wi Fi 1 price. 5 years guaranteed. Xfinity. Imagine that. Hey, did you see the two people that climbed the Empire State Building yesterday?
Seth
I saw that. How do you get vertigo like I do? Right? Yeah, when you. When you watch stuff. The helicopter circling around. That's not helping.
Sean
Okay, I didn't see. With. Oh, the. I didn't see that part.
Seth
There's a video of the helicopter circling around. So the buildings are spinning in the background, and these two are holding on to this tiny little spire at the top.
Sean
Yeah, it was the. That was the part that got me, was the part. It's, you know, you. You see the caption, and the first thing you wonder is, how the hell did they get up there? That's number one, and then number two. Like, okay, how high did they go? Oh, they went to the very top. The very top of the antenna that's up there.
Seth
Which, I mean, humans do go up there, but they're usually tethered with safety ropes and all kinds of gear and everything.
Sean
You're usually hired to go up there.
Seth
These two are just up there going free solo on it. Their free duet on it.
Sean
Well, and they got engaged up there. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they got engaged.
Seth
I mean, that is going to last.
Sean
That is. That. That's the first thing I thought. I'm like, well, this is definitely two very well adjusted.
Seth
These are two well adjusted people.
Sean
That.
Seth
Really funny things I thought, dude, I thought the same thing.
Sean
Like, this marriage is definitely not going to last.
Seth
Nobody even came to the wedding. Where are you guys getting married? The engagement party? Yeah. Were you guys getting married, like, at the top of one of those rocks?
Sean
Needle in Seattle?
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Everything you're gonna do is at the top of some superstructure. That was crazy, though, man. I don't know about you. Like, I get. I look at stuff like that, especially the part where they were at the very tippy top there, and it's just this. This little tiny balcony.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
My legs. Dude, my legs turn into jello just watching it.
Seth
They're hanging onto that antenna.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
And I don't think that antenna is meant to be hung on to. That's the part that I don't get there. It's one thing to climb up there, but then to just be both of them. Yeah. I can guarantee it's not meant for, like. It wasn't engineered for two people to be hanging.
Sean
No, no, no, no. Two people in masks that snuck up there. What's the highest that you've climbed in anything where there's a threat of, like, fear of height or falling or Whatever.
Seth
I think. Well, I mean there's like different like you know, mountains and everything, which always looks worse in pictures than it is. You know, in real life. You always feel like you see somebody standing on a big rock next to a precipice. Oh my God. But in real life, it doesn't feel like that.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Mysterious is always climbing silos. Silos are climbing silos without a. If there's a ladder with no like the. The cage around it.
Sean
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Seth
That used to be. I remember when I was a kid, I used to. I had to talk myself into climbing to the top of a silo for the first time.
Sean
Oh man.
Seth
You know, in a hard, hard way.
Sean
What do you. You do. Why are you going up. Why are you climbing to the top of the.
Seth
There's. There's a silo unloader up there sometimes. Well, two things. One, sometimes you go up and you manually throw silage down. She has to be careful about. Cuz every now and then there's gases up there. But then. Or you gotta adjust a silo, a silage unloading. There's like a. There's a shoot, there's a. There's a thing up at the top that'll send silage.
Sean
Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha. Dude.
Seth
I remember, man. It's been a long time.
Sean
I get nervous climbing the farmers.
Seth
Correct me. Yeah.
Sean
I get nervous climbing the ladder to the high dive at the Munich. That. The muni pool back in the day.
Seth
The. Oh, the high dive. Anytime.
Sean
Standing on the high dive, going off the high dive. That's no rail, kid.
Seth
We used to do scum jumping, which was. We'd go to an old railroad bridge over a creek and jump into the railroad bridge. Yeah. It was always the big step was like there was a. Like a cliff or you know, a really steady decline next to it. You could also jump in. Yep. So the first time you went off the actual bridge, that was the scariest. Yeah, yeah, I thought I saw that one tweet, which I thought was in poor taste, but the. Those two. That. Those two lovers that climbed up to the top of the Empire State Building.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
And they had a flag with them.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
And there was a Photoshop that said on the flag, Brian Kelly sent us up here. Oh. And I thought that was in very poor.
Sean
I did too. I did.
Seth
I didn't think that was acceptable at all.
Sean
That was 16 years ago.
Seth
What did the flag actually say?
Sean
Oh, something about love is power is love. Love over power. We something. Something about love. Something like that.
Seth
Nothing like politically driven on the surface or anything.
Sean
I don't know. It might have been a little bit like it was something about power and love where love exceeds power. So it could have been a political statement. I'll find it during the break. All right, we're off and running on a, on a Thursday here, Payne and Pendergast. Hey, David Montgomery, Texans running back, was on James Harrison's podcast. I've already grown to really like David Montgomery, and he hasn't even taken a snap in the regular season yet for the Texans. What's it like working for demeco Ryan's compared to where he came from, which was Dan Campbell and also David Montgomery. On the big topic this offseason, C.J. stroud. We've got that coming up for you next. Text message early here from Champ Slice. Hey, by the way, today feels like sort of a soft day off. You know, tomorrow is the, is the federally recognized day for Independence Day, you know, for, for not working sake. Actual Independence Day, of course, is Saturday, but I know a lot of people take either this week off or they're taking today off. So if you're, if you're up early listening to us, check in on the text page 713-572-4610. Champ Slice is a big fan of the visual you created in the first segment, Seth. The vision of Sean having to be saved from a cult by Seth has me cracking up. I could just see him getting dragged out there and screaming. I didn't even get to tell them any of my Lou Holtz stories. That's hilarious. Hey, man, I would have been like, I would have been telling Seth. I'm like, hey, they were nice.
Seth
You know, Amy and I had a long talk about it, and we said, we, we feel, we felt you'd gone far enough.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
You know, mostly because we just, we kind of did a cost benefit analysis of, like, all right, if we lose him forever versus, like, what can. What can we sell? Like, what can we still salvage from him? And so you were still worth salvaging. Okay.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah. Is it worth pretty bringing him back?
Seth
It is. Spreadsheet.
Sean
Yeah. Dump that. There you go.
Seth
I inadvertently said the S word. I. And I have no idea. I tried to say spread sheet. Yes, spread sheet sheet. And you said most of my spreadsheets turn into spread poop. Yeah, yeah. Yep, yep. I did a live stream yesterday that I had to take down. I made such an egregious error, really, describing Ben Johnson's offense.
Sean
Oh, was it the one where you were breaking down David Montgomery.
Seth
No, no, no, no. Not that one. That one was gold. That was gold. That was. But I hurried through my preparation for, you know, what's been. You know what got me yesterday?
Sean
What's that?
Seth
This has happened to me a few times. I'm not trying to use AI specifically. I do use AI for things, but usually when I'm using AI, I'm very careful to fact check things and everything. But now what I does me in was when I Google things, you get that stupid Gemini synopsis of your question, and it's so wrong so often, and I'm just don't. I don't have my head on a swivel to fact check the Google stuff, and it's way worse than when I run a search on Chad GPT. It's really, really bad.
Sean
It's really bad sometimes. Yeah, it's awful.
Seth
It's astoundingly awful.
Sean
Yep. That's your warning label, everybody. Just know if you're out there to spew facts, Gemini is not a great place to start.
Seth
It was like, I asked a simple one yesterday because I just wanted to check when the lat. When the second to last super bowl in Santa Clara was. So I asked it, like, how many Super Bowls. Which Super Bowls have been in Santa Clara or San Francisco? And it said there have only been two. It doesn't sound right at all. And it listed the most recent one and one from early 2000s. Right.
Sean
2015 was when we went.
Seth
But there was one before that. There was. Okay, yeah, yeah. But it didn't list the one from 2015.
Sean
That's weird.
Seth
Everybody be careful out there on those Google streets, man.
Sean
Absolutely. Now, you did talk about this David Montgomery stuff yesterday on one of your YouTube live streams. So let's hit some of this here. He was on the. He's on James Harrison's podcast.
Seth
It's all Debo and Joe. It's James Harrison and Joe Hayden.
Sean
Yep.
Seth
Which is. I feel bad for Joe Hayden sometimes because, like, it's a good podcast. They get great guests. But, like, when James Harrison starts bagging on the Browns, what's Joe Hayden gonna do? Yeah, he just. He can't. James Harrison sitting there with his super bowl rings and whatnot. And.
Sean
Yeah, you just got to take it. You got to take it. So this was David Montgomery. They asked him about his impressions of CJ Stroud so far.
Seth
Yeah, like, he really composed. Like, very composed.
Sean
And, like, he can make some crazy passes. Like, I've seen. I've been around Jared Goff.
Seth
I've been around A lot of, you
Sean
know, great quarterbacks and, you know, he's up there with those guys of being able to place the ball where he wants to, when he wants to do. And I wasn't here last year, so
Seth
I don't really know what he was like.
Sean
But as far as he is now currently in present time, yeah, he's.
Seth
He ready to rock and roll.
Sean
And, you know, I ain't gonna. I ain't finna sit here and tell everybody he's gonna do this, he's gonna do that. I'm not gonna do that. I'm just gonna let him knock out and show y' all when he do it, I'm just gonna turn around and
Seth
let y' all know, like, I let. I think that I'm always, you know, you're always a little bit wary of what guys are saying about somebody when they've only practiced with them. Yeah, I do think that.
Sean
Great. Is total grain of salt stuff with me right now.
Seth
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think the. The biggest thing about David Montgomery that comes through in all his interviews is, man, like, he's old school in a lot of ways when it comes to supporting his teammates, like, not having a big ego, being selfless. It's really cool to just to hear skill position players harping on being selfless because that so many things about the offense in the last couple of years, we know, just they haven't. They haven't kept pace with the defense and not just with performance on the field, but in the way they operate. Montgomery, by virtue of just his reputation and the way he plays and practices, by the things he's saying since he's gotten here. But then also, every time I either tweet or do a live stream about David Montgomery, I'm amazed by how many Lions fans are in my mentions.
Sean
I like hearing that.
Seth
Talking about how much they love David Montgomery, what a solid citizen he is. He's a literal Eagle Scout, I believe. Like, he's really. Yes, yes. At least. At least a couple Lions fans have told me that, and I'm not going to fact check it with Gemini, I'll tell you that much. But, like, whether you're saying it metaphorically or not, like, yeah, he's just kind of. He's like everything that you want in terms of the way of an athlete operates on a team. It seems like people in Detroit just love him.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
For all you know. And he never. He like his. The. There's no level of. Well, okay, well, let's play the next bit of audio.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
They Asked him about working with d', Amico, and he kind of puts his head down, like. Kind of like an amazement of, like, of. Of how lucky he is for this scenario. I went from going to a guy
Sean
like Dan Campbell, going straight over to Coach Ryan's. Come on, bro.
Seth
Like, I played with the nickel.
Sean
I was in OTAs with him for, what, a month?
Seth
And I'm like, oh, yeah, he. The real deal.
Sean
Like, and, like, I see all of, like, the similar things that, like, I seen my first year in Detroit. I'm like, this gonna be so fun.
Seth
It'll be fun.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
So, like, Dan Campbell, I guess if you're listening to that, initially, it might sound like a negative on Dan Campbell, but he brings it together at the end. I just. You love guys that. You love guys that buy in. And there is. Honestly, you know, there's. There's some guys, good players that, for whatever reason, like a guy like Dan Campbell or d' Amico Ryan's, they just. They don't necessarily buy in as quickly or as easily, and it doesn't mean they're bad players or anything, but they're not a good fit for the culture. So you just love. You love. Every time David Montgomery has talked about it since he got here, it's just. He's all in on d' Amico Ryan's and the way he operates. He was all in on Dan Campbel and the way he operates. And I don't know if you could say that about all of the. The. The better players that have been on the Texans offense the last few years.
Sean
Yep. David Montgomery, do you trust Chat GPT more than you do Gemini Seth.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
According to Chat GPT, David Montgomery, actual Eagle Scout.
Seth
Yeah. I felt like I knew that at one point and then forgot it.
Sean
2014, he earned it with Troop 772 in the Cincinnati area.
Seth
I could never get over. Well, I've told you about my objection to my scouting experience was that we never went camping. It was the only reason I signed up. Okay. I was like. I'm like, all right.
Sean
That's hilarious.
Seth
Get out in the woods here. I was doing, like, this. This. This Boxwood Derby or whatever and everything.
Sean
I was gonna. Pinewood Derby?
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
I was going to ask Tiny Boxwoods. I was gonna ask a good spot. I was gonna ask you if you'd ever been in Sky. I was in Cub Scouts. I was in Webelos, which is like the in between.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
And then I think I did a year of Boy Scouts. It's say we never went camping. Camping Was the end of it for me.
Seth
I know you don't like bugs.
Sean
I'm a creature of comfort, man. Well, no, you know what it was. They had one. They had like, two or three. It's not like we went camping every week. There were like, two or three times a year. Call it two times a year you went camping. The problem was, one of them was the Klondike, they called it. And it was in February in Connecticut. Oh, wow. Yeah. Like, you're camping in. You're camping in the snow.
Seth
It's some real survival skills there.
Sean
I was terrible. Wrapped up in a space blanket.
Seth
Worry about bugs. You know, I think about winter camp, about dying. There's a. There's nothing like being too hot and sweaty when it's also five degrees out. Like, I don't know. I don't know how this is gonna end. Yeah, I'm sweating my butt off.
Sean
That's hilarious. That's so funny.
Seth
That was one of the many conversations that Amy and I have had about you when we get together and talk about your future. Was. Well, no, the one time that we were. We were sitting outside that taco place, and you'd gone inside to get drinks.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
And Amy and I were sitting outside, and Amy looked up and she said, is that. Is that a fly? There's, like, a fly on the umbrella. And I was like, yeah, I think so. She's like, sean's not gonna like that. We better go inside. It's true.
Sean
I'm a creature of comfort, man.
Seth
That's when we decided that you. It was probably. We probably shouldn't try to push you towards getting your master's in etymology.
Sean
No, no. Definitely not. Definitely not. Yeah. A very. According to chat GPT. He stuck. He started David Montgomery and Cub Scouts stuck with it all the way through. He's now an official ambassador for scouting. America isn't the big.
Seth
The headquarters for the boy Scouts, or at least the Houston headquarters right there on the north loop. Right. You know when you're going up past the gallery and you turn right? Oh, when you make the big right turn, it's sitting right up there. I can't remember that.
Sean
I think you're right. And I think the girl scouts is right near the station here because I drive by it on the feeder road every day coming to the studio, so. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Seth
I go through their dumpsters a lot. That's cookies, you know.
Sean
Oh, yeah, that's good.
Seth
Cheap eating right there.
Sean
Absolutely. Body.
Seth
There's a lot of people there that look like they need it more than me. But like, who's to say, right? So I, yeah, I, I bully them aside.
Sean
Don't want them getting diabetes. You're saving them from diabetes.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
All right. Pain and pender gas with you. We'll play some more David Montgomery a little bit later. I loved hearing those two cuts yesterday. The C.J. stroud one grain of salt. The D' Amico Ryan's one. I just love how universally liked Demiko Ryan seems to be. You could hear James Harrison reacting to it there with Montgomery talking about it. Okay, headlines. We've got World cup to get to. We've got Astros to get to. We've got a trade in the NBA. I think all the names are off the board now.
Seth
If you're looking mayhem in the NBA
Sean
for an impact trade.
Seth
Oh, this trade on your Boston friends.
Sean
Yes, big time. We'll get to that in headlines. Coming up next, pain and pendergast.
Seth
With today's headlines powered by Men's Tea Clinic.
Sean
There's the final whistle, Seattle. We're coming back Monday night. In the round of 16, the United States, despite being down a man for half an hour, has beaten Bosnia and Herzegovina and has moved on to the next round of the World Cup. All right, headlines brought to you by the Men's Tea Clinic. We will start, start with the good news. You just heard it right there. Courtesy of Fox USA wins two nothing over Bosnia Herzegovina last night. They had to play the last roughly 25 or 30 minutes down a man because Flo Ballergan ejected from the game with a red card for what was deemed by the referee, I guess sort of a violent play on the ball
Seth
where he stepped on the guys Achilles and. Yeah, yeah, that's, I'm not, I, I'm with you. Like, I look, I'm not gonna step in and act like I'm an expert on red cards or anything. And yet at the same time, it does just seem ridiculously punitive that you, you get suspended for the next, for the next game. Yeah, that was for something. It wasn't, I don't know, like, I wouldn't, in, in basketball or something. I wouldn't call that a flagrant or anything. It was a, it was an unfortunate situation.
Sean
I did too. Yeah. I don't think there was any intent to hurt the guy. You know, he did step on his ankle. Like the replay, the replay of just the injury itself is ugly just because the guy's ankle turns. But I don't think there was, I don't think there was intent with it to do that. So but it is what it is and here we are. And that the United States will play Belgium on Monday on the 6th of July in the round of 16, which I think given what the potential feels like for this US Team, not that they're one of the favorites, but this is probably the best team that they've had, the best chance they've had maybe to make a run past the round of 16, the United States, get to the quarterfinals, maybe make a little noise. Huge game on Monday for the United States and for soccer here in the United States.
Seth
Yeah, that'll. India look. It's. There's just one. One more. One more obstacle added to it. So. Yeah.
Sean
Make for a better story. The Astros here was what some of last night sounded like.
Seth
That's hit well deep to right field. It is going to be 5 nothing TW. With that 3 run home run by Cody Clements, Clemens hits his 14th on the year. First time Imai has given up a multi home run game since the Twins played him back at Minnesota on May 18th. And Josh Bell got him twice. So the two walks come into score. It's now five to one game.
Sean
Yeah. Bet that was Cody Clemens. Bell got him last night too, in the first inning.
Seth
Bell is. Boy, credit to Imai. He's only been in major league baseball for a short while and he's already got somebody who owns him completely and totally.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah.
Seth
Just. Oh, just devastating, I don't think. I think that's why Imai was. I think he was. He was. He was quaking in his boots right from the onset.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Oh, no. That guy again.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah. So he pitched less than two innings last night, Imai. And so if you ask the question, well, what. What was it that really got to him? Did they. Did they smack a bunch of hits? Oh, yeah. They have five of them.
Seth
Them.
Sean
Did he walk a lot of guys? Oh, yeah. Four of them. Did he give up any home runs? Huh. Two in. In an inning and a third. Yeah.
Seth
A lot of action on that slider, though.
Sean
Yeah, he'll always have action on the slider. He'll always.
Seth
The computer can't even tell you what pitch he pitched when he let up that home run. Isn't it amazing? Yep. Wow.
Sean
So the Astros lose first time they. As you heard Todd Callis say on Space City Home Network there, first time they lose a series in a long, long time. They'd won five straight series. They. Right now, Seth, the numbers, you know, we do the daily check in here. They are since Payne and Pendergast reset the season on May 15, they're still 26 and 18, which is a 97 win pace. And they are two games back, both in the division and in the wild card. Yeah, so they're, you know, so it's even for losing two out of three. You know, you're still kind of hanging around right now. I think, you know, the All Star break is going to be taking place. They've got this, this week, this weekend and next week coming up, and then it's the All Star break. It would be nice if they were, if they were tied or inside the velvet rope at the All Star break.
Seth
Javier's return is imminent and he's going to start off in the bullpen, but, you know, try to look for the silver lining and things. Man, his best season ever. He started off in the bullpen and worked his way into a starting role over the course of a season and didn't have to pitch, you know, anywhere near 200 innings or anything. And you got the very best out of him. So maybe, maybe if you just ramp that up, you know, in a shortened version of what he did in 2022, maybe that'll be enough.
Sean
Yep. NBA yesterday. I don't know what names are left. If you're a Rocket fan that's looking for them to make a big move, a lot of them have flown off the board. And one that reportedly the Rockets weren't really all that enthused about. Jaylen Brown, formerly now of the Boston Celtics. He is on the move. He's headed to Philly for Paul George, who is very close to washed. And a bunch of draft picks in future years. 2 firsts, 2 seconds in future years. They. The. The audio that I've heard from up in Boston, Seth.
Seth
Yeah, they.
Sean
We may have to go find some of that. I bet it's out there on Twitter. They are livid in Boston about this trade.
Seth
Windhorst. Windhorst, who's gotten just increasingly dramatic in his takes over the years. You know, he did that thing where he's very serious and he's in a hotel room doing a zoom with somebody, and he says, everything that I understand about this trade is that it would only be made under duress. Under duress. And he says it three times, that he told you he was on the phone with a GM and he told him the terms of the trade. And the GM said, look, I got. I'm lucky. I'm at a stoplight. I don't know, like what? I can't process all of this. Yeah, yeah, fine.
Sean
I'll take Paul George.
Seth
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's, it's a, it's a weird trade.
Sean
It's a very strange trade. Jalen Brown was sixth for the MVP last year. He was second team all NBA. He was a Finals mvp. And this isn't like, this isn't like if we were talking about George Springer being World Series. He's a World Series mvp. Yeah. Nine years ago. He was the Finals MVP two years ago and, and is still in his prime. He's not even 30 yet. Jaylen Brown. Paul George. Paul George, for what he gets paid, is not a good basketball player at this point. And that's the big thing, too. Like this. I remember a time when the Sixers and the Celtics viciously hated each other back in the, in the 80s and 90s, and I'm guessing they still do. I just don't follow either of them closely enough that they're making that trade inside the division there too. And sending j. I mean, Jalen, Brad's a good team. Like, they already had Joel Embiid when he's available, but their backcourt of Maxi and the Edgecombe kid out of Baylor is a nice backcourt. And now you got Jalen Brown to go with. You didn't have to give up either of those guys to get Jalen Brown. Yeah, it's a really good trade for Philadelphia.
Seth
I was astounded by the number of people who were hopeful that this trade was going to literally kill Bill Simmons. That was just, that's, that wasn't in good taste either, Sean.
Sean
That was.
Seth
Hey, hey, hey.
Sean
It's in poor taste, but I'm not surprised necessarily. All right, so there you go. Those are your. Those are your headlines for. For today. All right, hey, let's circle back to the. The Texans. Texans in the AFC south through the eyes of Greg Cassell, one of the, one of the great ball knowers and film watchers for NFL football. Let's take a little journey through the AFC South. What is Greg Cosell seeing from not just C.J. stroud, but the other three teams in the division? We will do that coming up next. all right, into the 7 o' clock hour we go. Pain and pender gas. We got talking about the Boy Scouts in the first hour because David Montgomery, I did not know this until you brought it up, Was an Eagle scout and is an ambassador for Scouting America. I feel like Eagle Scout probably throws you way up a demico Ryan's big board, you know.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
The amount of discipline that it takes to do that. Not a lot of guys stick through all the way to do that.
Seth
Well, you know, and especially, you know, when you're a really good football player, sometimes you get pushed along through the school system.
Sean
Right.
Seth
Because they need you out there on the field. The Eagle Scouts, they don't push you along.
Sean
No.
Seth
You're a good football player.
Sean
Gotta earn it.
Seth
They're not gonna be like, that's not. They're gonna be like, hey, yeah, okay, sure. The. That's not a sailor's not. And the boat would have come unmoored and people would have died. But you're. So you rushed for 1500 yards. So here you go.
Sean
Yeah. No, you got to earn it. That's why I quit.
Seth
Yeah,
Sean
but it's funny. I was joking. I did. I quit as soon as we had to go on campouts where the temperatures were below like 15 degrees. I'm like, nah, I'm. I'm. I'm out.
Seth
I'll see. I wish I would have been in your. Your Boy Scout troop. They sounded like they're doing it the right way.
Sean
That was. I'm.
Seth
My guys Seemed like terrified of the outdoors. Yeah.
Sean
You. When you get. When you said before that you dropped out of the Scouts because there wasn't enough camping, I actually dropped out because there was too much camping. I'm like, no, no, I'm. I need running water. This text right here, my son had boy. My son was in Boy Scouts and he was done when they said, we're going to dig a hole to use the bathroom. Amen, brother. Amen.
Seth
Was he cool with just pooping on the flat ground or was it the actual data pooping into a hole?
Sean
I think it was the being outdoors and pooping thing. You know, just.
Seth
You gotta ask these questions, though. You can't just assume that's true.
Sean
That's true. All right, we'll get to more of your tech 713-57246 10. Greg Cosell, was this from his hits with Ross?
Seth
Yeah, this is on the Ross Tucker football podcast.
Sean
Okay. And. And Greg Cassell, who, I mean, that's his thing is he watches film and he watches it with a very educated eye. So I like his take on some of these things.
Seth
And they started off when Greg was. They're going through the AFC south preview and Ross just flat out kind of asked the open, open question like, hey, Texans, go. And Cassell. Cassell had this to say as he's reflecting on C.J. stroud during this off season.
Sean
C.J. stroud, the last couple of years has been up and down. Now, keep in mind, his first year in the league, he was in a Kyle Shanahan type offense with Bobby Slo. Now, in that offense, the quarterback has nothing to do with calling protections. And then they got off to a slow start his second year and they fired Slowik and they made a fairly significant change in approach, which has now continued. And they went more with a New England Patriot style of offense. And in the New England style of offense, the quarterback is responsible for setting protections. That's a major, major adjustment for a quarterback. It adds to the mental part of playing the position. And I've met CJ Stroud, he's a very intelligent young man. But when you have to make that change and it's a process and he'll get better and better at it, but I think it slowed down just his whole processing and I think there were times where I thought he was indecisive playing the position and therefore was not as anticipatory as we saw him in his rookie season. Okay, so that was age. Just so I'm keeping track of because he talked about slowed down that was a bad version of slow down.
Seth
Bad version of slowed down. Yeah. Sometimes he says sped up and slowed down.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Almost synonymously.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Feels like. But I think that one thing is that just like everything that he said, you know, we've heard before, we've talked about before. It's always nice to hear somebody else say it. But the big thing about it is that it's also. It's one of those things where it's an explanation, but that's also not a guarantee that it will happen and that he will adapt. Adapt to the offense. I think the part there where he talked about, you know, that, you know, he's met C.J. stroud. He's a very intelligent young man. You know, that's reflected by what a lot of other people have said who have sat down and watched film with, with C.J. stroud. But there's knowing it on the whiteboard and then doing it in person, and just a lot of it just flat out takes reps. And that's the part where, you know, if you're, if you're on the side of, like, okay, well, C.J. just needed some time in the system, then, yeah, you should, should, you should stay on with that line of thinking. There's reasons for you to think that it should be better this year. But I also do understand that people will say, look, yeah, look, lots of quarterbacks have tried this and they've continued to struggle with it as they get into their second or third year of the system. It's not a slam dunk guarantee that just because you've got time in the system, you're going to get good at it.
Sean
How, how much did it exacerbate things, do you think that in combination last year with CJ Being in the system for the first time, and it's not easy, as Greg Cosell just outlined, that you also had a guy who was an offensive coordinator for the first time teaching this system.
Seth
Right. Well, you know, and that's. And that was actually one of my live stream listeners corrected me on this yesterday, and I'm glad he did it was because, you know, Drake May's done a really good job with Josh McDaniels up in New England. But one thing that Josh McDaniels did also with Drake May is he's, he. And he did this with Mac Jones. You know, he knows exactly what they can and cannot handle and incorporate elements of the things they did in college. And that's, you know, that's Josh McDaniels having a whole bunch of experience Working with various quarterbacks through the years. You can say whatever you want about Josh McDaniels. As a head coach, he's been a disaster. But as an offensive coordinator, as a guy who works with quarterbacks, it's not just Tom Brady that he's worked with and done a good job. And I think that's. Yeah, like, would. Would it have looked better with Josh McDaniels as the offense offensive coordinator last year? I'd have a hard time arguing that it, that it wouldn't just by. He's done it time and time and time again. He's had a lot of experience doing it. So with Kaylee, I think it was. That was part of the learning curve.
Sean
Yep. And then what's getting brought up quite a bit this off season with C.J. stroud is the lack of a running game that he's not just last year. That's been a theme for the entire
Seth
time that CJ Stroud, including when Joe Mixon was here, it just wasn't the, it wasn't consistent. You know, it came in fits and starts. But like the overall success rate of their run game was really bad. And it's just, it's hard for a quarterback to work with that.
Sean
Yep. Here's Greg Cosell on that very topic. They could not run the ball. Now. It's always easy to say, well, he. Stroud's not been great because the run game's bad. And obviously there is a correlation. I'm not going to sit here and say there's no correlation. But they brought in David Montgomery and they revamped their entire offensive line. They're going to have three or four new starters.
Seth
Okay.
Sean
They brought in Braden Smith to play right tackle. Wyatt Teller, who for a couple of years there in Cleveland was as good a left guard as there was in the league, particularly in the gap scheme run game as a puller. Keelan Rutledge, who played guard, the rookie out of Georgia Tech, he'll probably play center. So they're going to have a brand new offensive line and ideally at least a serviceable run game. And David Montgomery is one of those backs. He's a. You know, it's so funny. People always talk about backs being special and all that, but you know what? You don't have to have a special back to have a consistent, sustaining run game.
Seth
Yeah, I didn't think that part of it, too. Is that something you just hear people say over and over again? You know, nobody's saying that the Texans have to be a top five offense or have A top five rushing attack. When you have a defense like you do, they just need to be more consistent. They gotta be able to convert in the red zone. And a lot of that just simply comes down to can you, can you run for a half yard when you need a half yard?
Sean
Yes.
Seth
Last year there was a whole lot of. They could run for a quarter yard when they needed a half yard, they could run for one yard when they needed two yards. And like that, that one. It's just that one big speed bump that kept them from being, I think, a genuinely like impressive offense or at least in the top third of offense. It's just that they just couldn't run the ball. I guess the flip side of it could be, man, they focus so heavily on running the football with the offensive line and the tight end that they drafted and bringing David Montgomery in that not all those guys are great pass protectors. So they're kind of hoping that the presence of the run game gives them enough. It gives them enough to threaten the defense with that they can handle the pass protection side of the. It just by getting into second and five. Yeah, it's, you know, like if you're in second 10, third and 10 consistently, you can have the best offensive line in the league. They're only going to be able to do so much.
Sean
Yes. The key for them will be having the full playbook available on second and third down and then keeping the defense off balance. You know, that's you. You improve your pass protection by. Through the. The mystery of the defense not knowing or at least limiting what's available to. All right, so that's Greg Cosell on the Texans. Okay, let's continue our journey.
Seth
Seth. So he goes, this is interesting. We'll do these. I had to, I had to be really careful when I labeled this, this audio because what he said about Shane Steichen working with Daniel, there's one that
Sean
I can't wait for.
Seth
I'm sounded very similar to what he said about Liam Cohen working with Trevor Lawrence. But this is, this is on Shane Steichen and how good he is at getting the first read open.
Sean
Every pass play, you know, concept is put in during a game with the idea that we want to be able to throw it to the primary. You know, obviously it doesn't always work out like that, but sometimes when you see some, you know, some coaches and some teams, it just looks like that's the way it plays out. And you know, again, that's so critical for a quarterback because the comfort level just increases because he Hits his back foot and he delivers the football.
Seth
So that's what it was with Daniel Jones and they made it. You know, he was able to really just, you know, just let it fly in the first half of the last season. But then usually what happens with quarterbacks who are primary read guys is that the league catches up to them. The best example of it that we've seen is Tua Tunga Violoa when he was playing the Texans. And he's playing a defense that just knows that Tua only Tua wants to get rid of the ball fast and he wants to get rid of the ball to his primary read. And if you've got a good feel and beat on where that's going to be, you just pounce on him. And over time, it looks really good for the first half of a season, you do it. Or in the case of the Jaguars, when it clicks for the quarterback in the second half of the season. Remember what he just said about Shane Syken working with Daniel Jones? This is Cassell talking about Liam Cohen working with Trevor Lawrence.
Sean
Liam Cohen got Trevor Lawrence. He became, you know, a primary REIT operator a year ago and looked more comfortable than he ever has. Particularly, you know, as he got later in the season when he got more and more comfortable within the offense. It's just a great example of that.
Seth
Yeah. So you know what Greg forgot when Doug Peterson in the second half of his season.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Got Trevor Lawrence really comfortable with his offense and it looked like, wow, Trevor Lawrence is finally delivering on all of those lofty things people said about him coming out of college.
Sean
This feels very similar. It feels very similar to that.
Seth
The difference, though, with the Jaguars this year compared to previous years is they've decided that, look, they won the AFC South.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Why? Why tinker with a good thing?
Sean
Yeah. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Seth
All 11, all 22 of their starters on the depth chart right now are returning starters.
Sean
Okay.
Seth
They, you know, they let go of Travis Hn because apparently they just love Tutin all that much and. And they let go of Devin Lloyd on the defensive side of the ball. But they're just going to run it back. They're not even running it back. They're saying running it back minus a couple of guys and our draft class. So Greg Cassell is never one to throw shade on people. Tell me if this is a little bit of a passive aggressive throwing of shade. This is. When asked about that strategy of just running it back.
Sean
Okay, look, I'm not one of those people.
Seth
And you know me well enough to
Sean
know I don't rip teams like they. They know more about their players than you, and I do do. So, you know, at this time of year, I'm going to assume that they know, and I'm. They're going to get the benefit of the doubt.
Seth
Yeah. So it's getting the benefit of the doubt until he doesn't.
Sean
By saying that I don't normally rip guys.
Seth
Yeah, you'd like to rip them.
Sean
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like you. Basically, what you're doing. Greg Cosell. It's a brilliant move because he still maintains his reputation of being a nice guy.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
But by. By even acknowledging that. That. That the. The potential ripping of somebody for someone like that is like ripping them.
Seth
Right, Right.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Yes.
Sean
That is shade. You asked me.
Seth
Eyebrow raiser.
Sean
You asked me the question. Yes.
Seth
We all love. We all love, you know, seeing somebody that thinks they're smarter than everybody else get their comeuppance. The problem is that sometimes. Sometimes they don't get their comeuppance. Sometimes they genuinely were smarter than everybody else. So you got to be careful about saying, oh, yeah, this guy thinks he's gonna reinvent the wheel, because every now and then, they actually do reinvent the wheel.
Sean
What are the odds that Gladstone is the smartest guy in the room?
Seth
3%.
Sean
3%. Okay. So you think this thing is gonna fail. Yeah, I'm with you on that. I just. To me, it's the whole drafting thing. Like, the whole just drafting and not that the consensus big boards are some sort of gospel or anything like that. Like, they were carved into tablets, and Moses walked down from the mountain with the big boards, the consensus big boards. But when all of your draft picks are off kilter from what everybody thinks about all of them, like, all of them, and they drafted, like, 10 or 11 guys.
Seth
And when this is the biggest thing is, like, where the arrogance shows up is the way that Gladstone, after the draft, said, it's pretty much like every single guy that we wanted to get, we got.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
I'm like, yeah, okay. Because nobody else thought that they were worth drafting where you drafted them. You think you're smarter than everybody else. Yeah.
Sean
And the whole thing where he was relishing the moment of shit shocking the world, you know, drafting the tight end out of A and M there in the second round. I don't know. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know. So we'll. Good for you, Cosell. All right. What's he saying about the Titans?
Seth
Titans. This is where Texans fans need to take note. Because if there's one thing we know, it's that the Texans have struggled in recent years with big, strong, physical defensive linemen like the Seahawks have and like the Patriots have. This is, this is what he has to say about the Titans defensive line.
Sean
Their defensive line, it is freaking big. And they can go 7, 8 deep with quality players. And that's the way Robert Sala wants to play.
Seth
Yeah. And again, that's. That's the truth. That's how it's been with Tennessee. Even when Tennessee's defense hasn't been good, when they had. When Tavandre Sweat was still there and Jeffrey Simmons was healthy, when those guys were both healthy and on the field at the same time, they just devastated the Texans. Even in games where the Texans won, they were just manhandled up front. And even though Tavandre Sweat's not there, it's a different front. They do have like, they've got those seven or eight guys that they can rotate through. So it's going to be, it's going to be one of the big tests early in the season for the Texans offensive line, their revamped offensive line. And likewise the Bengals are going to be a big test early in the season because the Bengals brought in Poirier Maffe and Dexter Lawrence. Multiple, multiple guys on their defense. Defensive line.
Sean
Yeah. They Texans struggled offensively against the Titans last year before even got there.
Seth
Right. And even when they weren't a good defense, that was it. I remember I used to like Babe. When I would do previews for those games, people would say, seth, what the hell are you talking about? The Titans are the, you know, 28th right. Ranked run defense or whatever. I'm just, just, I watch the, just watch this upcoming game and tell me how well they handle those defensive tackles.
Sean
No, no, no. Styles make fights sometimes, man.
Seth
That was the thing. The one thing I've noticed is I started just kind of just, you know, doing my way too early previews and study, trying to study up on each of the Texans opponents is that they do. They face a slew of teams that had horrendous defenses last year who also spent very aggressively on trying to fix those defenses.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
And just by epa, I think the Titans, the Bengals and the Cowboys were all in bottom five. And all of those teams have at least five new starters. Some of them say, I think the Cowboys have six new starters on defense
Sean
and they play all of those teams in the first five weeks of the season.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Bengals in week two, Cowboys in week four. Titans on the road in week five.
Seth
And, and also, I mean, and I'm not saying that to say like, oh, they're going to be awesome defenses because they spent heavily. No, it's. It's going to be fun to watch to see which ones actually work out and which don't. Which are improved. The Giants, I would add to that. They weren't as bad defensive, but they have six new starters on their defense.
Sean
Okay, so there's our trip through the, through the AFC South. How you feeling right now about the division here on July 2nd?
Seth
I feel pretty good. I mean, like just. It all goes back to everything we've talked about on the offense all off season. But I just, I don't, I don't feel, I feel like the Colts, I mean, I think they're set up for a quote unquote fall.
Sean
I think they're going to finish in last place.
Seth
Right. Because it's not like they finished with an awesome. They lost their quarterback midway through the season. But I don't think it's going to be anything like what it looked like in the first half of last season.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
But I think the Jaguars will still be a good team. I just don't. I, I think it's going to be tough for them to match their record from last year.
Sean
Yeah. I just think that. And the Texans, to your point with the Jags, like, okay, what did you do this off season to. To get better? Like, I think the Texans made a ton of moves to get better. Like, they made a move to improve safety. They made moves to improve the future. Few. The few glitches they had on defense, on offense, as Cosell pointed out, they, they essentially, they tore the offensive line down to the studs. It's Ariante Ursary is the only one that's left that's kind of guaranteed a spot right now. Other than that, the other four spots are probably.
Seth
There's not.
Sean
And Ed Ingram. Yep, you're right. No, no. So two of them. You're. You're absolutely right. But, but yeah, so that's still 60% of the offensive line. Because that's. I, I think they're heart of hearts. I don't think they want Jake Andrews to be the starting center. I think they want Keelan Rutledge.
Seth
Unless. Well, you know what I mean? I don't know. I would frame it differently in that. I think that if Jake Andrews proves that like, wow, look at. He took a great leap forward. They're cool with him starting. If he beats out Keelan Rutledge. Yeah, you know they're not going to turn their nose down at it, but they also hope that Keelan Rutledge is going to be a formidable force. Yeah, I think that the biggest difference between this year and the last couple years years is that you have, I think you've got bona fide starters competing for those spots. They're competing with other bonafide starters and, and, or a first round draft pick. And it's just, it's a, it's a more legitimately competitive situation where sometimes in the past couple years it's either been all right, a guy who sucked his whole career is written in pen as the starter on the depth chart or it's a competition between two guys that would be backups on a lot of, a lot of other teams teams to be the starter. It just doesn't, it doesn't feel that way.
Sean
This, it's definitely a deeper room. Like, it's like I actually feel okay about the backups right now if the depth chart played out the way that we think it's going to. And that's not been the case the last few years. Text messages 713-57246 and we're getting a lot of texts on the Astros and that Jalen Brown trade. We'll just as long as we're on football here, a couple football texts. I think the Jags are more likely to win nine or 10 games than winning 13 again. Yeah, I'm with you. They're not winning 13 games again. They just, they, they, they got worse in my opinion this offseason. I don't think they got better and
Seth
I don't think that. I think they're reading way too much into that second half surge on offense and that they kind of forgot that hey, we couldn't actually run the ball even though they were passing the ball really well and that all right, teams are going to look at you and they figured out exactly what you can and cannot do with Trevor Lawrence. And I don't think people say still, I think people still look at Trevor Lawrence as a first read quarterback. Like, like other defenders have said about Trevor Lawrence in the past.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
And that it's, this will be a, this will be a real big test for Liam Cohen this year.
Sean
Text message Texans would be. I agree with this. Text message Texans would be. Texans would be fools to start the season with the running back room they have right now. Sign Najee Harris now because Montgomery has not carried a, quote, full time load and Marks should stay third down and change of pace. He won't cost he being Najee Harris won't cost more than 2 to 3 million. I am with this texter in that if something were to happen to David Montgomery, we're right back to where we were the second half of last season.
Seth
We are. I mean Najee Harris is coming off an Achilles tendon tear. So. Right. Which was early last year or I don't remember.
Sean
I don't remember the time. It was last year for sure. I, I, when I say I agree with it. Not necessarily Najee Harris part.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
But I do think a veteran running back in that room.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
That is trustworthy that you know and I don't know what names are out there right now.
Seth
As of March, he's been doing straight line sprinting on a treadmill.
Sean
Well, you do that as a running back sometimes. That's good news.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
So yeah, I, Whichever.
Seth
Yeah. Whoever you bring in. Like honestly though. But I would prefer that if they bring in a running back back and not be an experiment like Cam Akers coming off of his second torn Achilles. Nick Chubb coming still, still recovering from his injury from a couple years ago. But then also just an older running back that I'd like to have somebody a little bit more juice and then maybe it ends up being a trade for a younger player instead of, instead of an aging guy with one Achilles tendon.
Sean
Yep. Last one here is from Ocho. Sean, I feel good about the Texans now, but I feel better if I knew CJ Stroud could be one of the few quarterbacks to overcome shell shock. Shell shock. Like it's a disease.
Seth
One of the few quarterbacks that overcome shell shock. The boy. I, you know, there's various quarterbacks that have thrown multiple interceptions and bad playoff losses. You know, Tom Brady. I think Tom Brady's career high is four. Or maybe he only had three. He had three and one.
Sean
Three in a game they won.
Seth
I remember in a game they won. Peyton Manning is probably the best examp guy that, I mean, for the first half of his career he was viewed as a guy who was awesome in the regular season and sucked in the playoffs.
Sean
Yeah, he, yeah. Early Peyton Manning was worse than what the body of work CJ's put out there.
Seth
He threw four interceptions in a game, in a playoff loss in the AFC championship game in New England one year.
Sean
Yep.
Seth
But he had better regular seasons to kind of offset that.
Sean
Oh yeah.
Seth
But there was a, there was a perception that Peyton Manning just sucked in the choker.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Yeah. And no like where to me like CJ's had good games in the playoffs. Playoffs. And didn't look like it was the spotlight or the limelight or anything else like that that was affecting me or anything. It's just this last year was, was ridiculously weird and bad.
Sean
Yep. All right, shifting gears. You, you mentioned earlier, Joe Espada, I did not see this video or audio from the game last night. We didn't get it in our email this morning. But I guess he had said, Seth, that in defense of Imai, because Imai was awful last night.
Seth
Night.
Sean
Gave up five hits, four walks, two home runs in less than two innings. That he'd been, he'd been good his
Seth
last few, his last few games? Yeah, I was like, few games. No, no, it was three games ago that he lasted two thirds of an inning. Yeah.
Sean
I guess the spot has got a different, different definition of few than maybe most people do. And that's, that's kind of on brand for a spot, I think. A spot. A spot, it definitely skews way more to the side of being nice, being not hard on the guys, at least not publicly in the media. You know, I'll give him the I, I, I will, I will leave open the possibility. Kind of like we hear about d', Amico, where d' Amico is a certain way publicly, but then, you know, he's, he's hard on guys privately. Maybe a spot is that way. So I saw this video clip of Will Clark yesterday. Will Clark. Clark, former All Star first baseman, noted Bitterman. He is very, get off my lawn, old school baseball guy. Okay, so Will Clark, the question came up on his podcast, like, hey, you know, do you think you could manage or do you want to manage? And Will Clark lays out why he couldn't be a manager. And I got thinking. I'm like, huh, do the Astros maybe need some of this? Like, what Will Clark's bringing to the table? I hate to say it, but I said it in my jersey retirement speech. You were right there. It's a participation trophy game now, you know. So you think you're. We're making it too easy for the players. Oh, hell yeah. You're making it too easy for sure. Too much coddling going on.
Seth
Oh.
Sean
And that's why people have asked me why I don't get into coaching, why I don't get into managing and all that. I am not going to pat you on the back and tell you you're doing a good job when you're hitting.220 and you track out 100 times. All right? You actually suck. All right? I'm gonna tell you you suck. I'm gonna tell you to make a adjustment. And if you don't make an adjustment, you're going into minor leagues and somebody else is gonna take your spot. Sorry. That's the way the game goes. This is a big boy game. It's not a little boy game. And you have to have thick skin. You don't have thick skin. Get out the way, because I'm gonna steamroll you. I want at least one season of Will Clark as the Astros manager.
Seth
I love Will Clark, though. I feel like. I feel like his perception of what managers used to be like is still way more extreme than, like, the most extreme of. The most extreme of managers that used to operate. Yeah, things have gotten kinder and gentler over the years. I'll definitely concede that. But I feel like Will Clark might have been. He might have been labeled, like, kind of a. Kind of an a hole manager in any. In any era if you were to just put his full board. Personality. Personality.
Sean
I will steamroll you. You're hitting.220. I'm going to tell you, you suck. I'm like, you know what? We may need a couple months of this guy. You know, just if. If you end up firing a spot in August. Let's just experiment with Will Clark coming in and telling everybody except Jordan Alvarez that they suck. You know, I'm going to tell you, Will Clark is funny, man. He is. He. He's. He's a piece of work.
Seth
Who's the. Who's the grumpiest recent manager? Like Terry Francona?
Sean
No, Francona, I think is. Is. I don't think he's grumpy. I mean, I think he's.
Seth
He's gruff at times. He's older. He's not.
Sean
Yeah, he's not. He's not. I'm trying to think, like, who is the. I'll tell you the one who. When I was early in my radio career, I would go to a lot of Astros games and go to the clubhouse afterwards. You know, I would just, you know, I was in my formative years and I wanted to do everything, and so I went. Glenn. The biggest jerk that I was part of a media scrum with after a game was when the Astros are playing the brewers and the local media. You know, the. The opposing manager typically did their media, like, from the little office they had right there sitting at his desk. Ned Yost was an a hole. He was just. He was just a flat out jerk.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
If he didn't like the question, he would talk about What a stupid question. It was like, he was. He. That was. So. That was. And I was probably on the other end of one of that. The reason I probably feel bitter about it is. The reason I probably feel bitter about that is the same reason. Like when I saw yesterday that Warren Sapp was being investigated over an alleged battery at a senior home in Florida.
Seth
Oh, yeah.
Sean
That I was rooting for. When I saw that no charges were brought, I was like, ah, damn. I really wanted him to be charged. Warren Sapp's a big jerk that. You know, I've told that story before at Radio Road. Just like when. What a. What a jerk he was.
Seth
No, he's not known for having pleasant interactions.
Sean
I even asked Chat GPT just to make sure I was. I was going to check myself, Am I being unfair to Warren Sapp? And I asked Chat GPT, does Warren Sapp have the reputation of being a jerk? And Chat GPT was like, oh, yeah.
Seth
I had one teammate that went to the Raiders while he was there that said, man, I met the first guy who's going to hell. Like, he'll be first in the door like that.
Sean
Like, bad person.
Seth
He gets swimmed right up to the front.
Sean
Yeah, he's a bad person. I couldn't believe.
Seth
Those are his words, not mine.
Sean
Yeah, yeah. No, you're just conveying the story. Yeah, yeah, I just. I couldn't believe that. I couldn't believe they hired him at Colorado, that Dion hired Warren Sapp to be the defensive line coach there. That was. He's not there anymore. He resigned.
Seth
There's a lot of people that are kind of. There's a lot of people that try to, like, they've been. They're jerks in any generation. But those are the people that love to act like, oh, it's only modern society that can't handle me. Like, they would have been the. He would have been the most popular dude in town back in the day, like in the 1950s or something. Ah. Now I think he's just kind of a jerk. Yeah, they had jerks back then, too.
Sean
Yep. We. A couple texts are saying, hey, if Jalen Brown went to the Sixers for such an underwhelming package, and if you missed it, Jalen Brown last night sent to the Philadelphia 76ers from the Celtics. Celtics at Paul George, who's aging and not nearly the player he used to be, and then a bunch of draft picks, couple first couple seconds in future seasons. And so we have some people asking, like, hey, could the Rockets have done that to you? Like if he went for such an underwhelming package. Like if the Rocket. And there's a couple people, Seth, wanting to say, well, why. Why didn't. Why didn't we do Kevin Durant and a couple first round picks for Jake.
Seth
Right. Yeah. Because it does seem. Well, this seems like one of those classic scenarios, kind of like with the James Harden trade, where it might have just been. Yeah. A matter of who was. Who was around and available and listening because the Celtics just had to do something for whatever reason. Brian Winhorst said it was. It's the kind of deal that you only do if you're under duress. So I don't know what that duress necessarily is or what, like, what the speculation is on all of that, but. Yeah, I know. Like, what's. What are the. What are the barriers to the Rockets having made that?
Sean
Well, I think maybe the Rockets. I mean, all the talk with the Rockets and Jaylen Brown have been that just. They're just not in on it.
Seth
They weren't interested. Maybe they thought it was going to be a much higher price.
Sean
Maybe. Maybe. I mean, he may coach Jalen Brown, so he's got that intel on what makes Jaylen Brown tick. So it might. Yeah, it could have been any number of things. This is where it's going to get maybe awkward in Philadelphia. This was Jalen Brown, if you remember the day after the Sixers knocked the Celtics out of the playoffs this year. Jaylen Brown, at his press conference after the elimination yesterday game and then the next day on his Twitch stream, was adamant that Joel Embiid is one of the worst floppers in the NBA. I mean, this is my personal opinion on basketball. Some of y' all might disagree, you
Seth
know what I mean?
Sean
But argue with your grandma. Flopping has ruined our game.
Seth
Joel Embiid is a great player.
Sean
One of the best bigs in basketball history.
Seth
Flops.
Sean
He know it.
Seth
This ain't.
Sean
This ain't breaking news the same. You know what I mean?
Seth
It is what it is. I can clip it up, like I
Sean
said, and post it on these paid accounts that y'.
Seth
All, these bot. Whatever.
Sean
That's just my opinion. Yeah. And he's your teammate now.
Seth
Yeah. He's pretty frank about it. You gotta just gotta own that when you talk to Jalen over your Shirley Temples or whatever, when you first get
Sean
together, Embiid seems like. Embiid seems like an easygoing enough guy where he'd be like, nah, I flop. Yeah, I'm also injured all the time. That's the bigger Issue with me is I'm just not available all the time.
Seth
Some of those flops are actually his design tuck and roll that he uses to keep from getting injured so much.
Sean
Yep.
Seth
That's what he would tell you.
Sean
That's right. That's right. So now you're. Hey, if you're Jaylen Brown, now you're benefiting from Embiid being a flop.
Seth
Jaylen Brown. I was like, I don't need a burner account. I speak my. I speak my truth.
Sean
That's true.
Seth
Out in the wide open for everybody to hear here.
Sean
Yes. We are also being told, Seth, that you guys. This is a text. You guys are underplaying the Eagle Scout thing. Crazy amount of hours.
Seth
Oh, yeah.
Sean
An Eagle Scout. Yeah.
Seth
Yeah. Did we underplay it? We said it was a really big deal.
Sean
Yeah, we said it's a big deal.
Seth
What do you want me to do? Go through like a 10 point dissertation about exactly how hard it is to become an Eagle Scout?
Sean
Hey, what do you think?
Seth
Listen, listen, little Eagle Scout dude. I appreciate that you put that effort in. Okay? Now get to work.
Sean
Did you just pat him on the head and call him a little Eagle Scout?
Seth
Some 37 year old want me to give him extra credit for his Eagle Scout? Yeah. No, At a certain point, you got to move on.
Sean
Crazy amount of hours.
Seth
Yeah, No, I know. It's a big deal.
Sean
Yeah, no, of course. That's why we talked about it. That's it. And that's why we gave David Montgomery.
Seth
Hey, Sean, next time we mention any doctor, you know, if we talk about Dr. Lowe again, the surgery that he performed, do you realize on Fred Van Vliet, do we, like. Do you realize how many. How long an orthopedic has to spend as a resident.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
To become an orthopedist.
Sean
What do you think about this as a parenting method?
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
My discipline motivation for getting my Eagle Scout was the rule from my parents that I couldn't get my driver's license unless I got my Eagle Scout.
Seth
Oh, I like that. That's good.
Sean
Pretty good.
Seth
Good carrot on a stick.
Sean
That's a good carrot on a stick. Back in the days when kids actually wanted to get.
Seth
When they wanted their driver's license. Yeah. Nowadays you got like, why would I. I expose myself to harm and liability when I could be on my phone in my bedroom.
Sean
That might be one of my biggest disconnects between the current generation and our generation. Is that the. It seems like not everybody, but by and large, the younger generation has kind of done a 180 on the desire to get a driver's license.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
That was a huge deal. Like, we were counting down the days to get it.
Seth
Part of it is that the. The part of it, though, too, is that this is a generation that's accustomed to their parents actually wanting them around. Where in our generation, more times than not, I think it was mostly our parents would just wish we'd get the hell away from them. Yeah, it was. You weren't allowed back in the house until. Until dinner time. Like, you were just like, please, please get away from me, you child.
Sean
That's true.
Seth
And we took our cues from that.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
By the time we were 16, we knew what the deal was was parents these days are all about like, oh, let me spend as much precious time with you as possible until you have to leave the nest, etc. Okay. Which is probably the better way to live. Don't get me wrong.
Sean
There's definitely more love involved in something like that, if you're a believer. Yeah.
Seth
Yeah. I'm not knocking it.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
I'm not going all Will Clark on you.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah.
Seth
I'm not acting like our parents. Acting like it was more important to get a martini than to look at your report card was actually a good way to rear your children. Children, yeah. Yep.
Sean
Yep. The. The. The head of the head, Nick Adams, who is. He's. He's part of Trump's cabinet. He's the. He's. He's. He's. I think he's in charge of some tour, you know, some aspect of tourism with the country here. He's the one that invited Freddie, the German superfan, to the White House.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
And so there's a big question after Freddie deleted his Twitter account this week, is he still invited. Nick Adams put out a statement yesterday and it's finally happened where, like, the Freddie thing has now been totally politicized.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
I arranged a visit to a really pretty statement on Twitter. I arranged a visit to the White House for Freddie, the viral World cup tourists from Germany to cap off what's been an epic FIFA World cup visit to the United States. Despite the hateful and angry radical left, vicious attempts to dox Freddie.
Seth
Oh, dear.
Sean
Launch personal attacks and intimidate him into submission, ultimately forcing him to delete his social media accounts to protect his peace and safety. The West Wing visit will still take place. I never got the sense that the. The. For lack of a better word, bullying of Freddie or negativity towards Freddie was ever motivated by politics. I always got this impression it was motivated just by people that Were. Were a jealous. Like me, but I never bullied Freddie. I never interacted with Freddie. I was just admittedly jealous of all the things he got to do. The people that interacted with him. I thought it was more people that were just skeptical that he was more like this commercial mechanism.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Disguised as a super fan than anything political.
Seth
I don't know. I just. Yeah. So maybe he goes into visits. Yeah.
Sean
Okay.
Seth
I wonder if he's like. But he hasn't had his face. If he goes to a visit at the White House, he's going to have his picture taken and it'll be publicized all over the place. I think.
Sean
I. My guess is that would be a condition of him going there.
Seth
Right. Right. Well. Or that. I mean, just don't worry. The politician says he's not going to take your picture. Like, you got to be careful about all of that. I don't. I'm. I would put odds on. I think he bails out of this. But visit just. Just for no other reason than he just doesn't want any publicity at all at this point.
Sean
My guess is he said his flight is set for July 23rd. If I had to guess, I. That that was the other reply he was getting yesterday or two days ago. Whenever he said, I'm, I'm here till the 23rd. The day Germany lost, people were like, you know, you can move your flight. Don't act like you're stuck here for the next three years.
Seth
Right. But he wanted. Nobody wanted. He wanted to keep traveling around and maybe presumably go to some World cup matches or something.
Sean
Yeah, yeah.
Seth
Yeah.

All right, Pain and Pender Gast with you on a on a Thursday. Appreciate everybody getting up with us, especially if you're off for this week and offer next week or whatever. We always appreciate you guys tuning in either on the radio or the free Odyssey app. We thank you for that. So Benjamin Solak, who we played some audio from on the show earlier this week. He was a guest on Gary at Houston Stress Stressing's YouTube stream a few days ago. He's a big fan of the Texans. He in just he likes the team. He thinks they're going to be. He thinks they're going to be good this year. He did his 10 predictions Seth for the upcoming season, trades, division winners, things like that. And he predicted, yeah, the ultimate Texans prediction. He thinks that the Texans are going to represent the AFC in the super bowl this year. Texans will win the afc. He has a disclaimer he said I deserve or I reserve the right to change this prediction before week one. As we get more news about Bo Nick's ankle and his health because he really likes the Broncos overall roster. But obviously Bo Nix is dealing with some fallout from his injury he suffered in the playoffs last year. But we know that Benjamin Solak, still a CJ Stroud believer.
Seth
It sounds like he believes in the Broncos more than the Texas. He just wants to be double sure about Bo Nix's health before the end of the season. Yep, that's neither here nor there. Yeah, he's I think he's one of the guys that I saw somebody on Twitter yesterday say that man like Texans are in two camp on the national media there's people that are swayed completely by the playoffs and they think he's trash. And then there's another set of national media people who just feel like anybody who doubts CJ Stroud is an idiot and doesn't know ball, when in reality, I think there's, there's room in the middle ground somewhere. But I think Solak's one of those people who thinks that the people who doubt CJ Just don't know ball.
Sean
That's what, that's what, in my opinion, makes CJ One of, if not the most intriguing players in training camp this year around the league is his contract situation and just the divergent opinions out there about him. It's, it's, it is there. There. It's, there is very, there are very few people hanging out in the middle ground with him.
Seth
Well, it is interesting, though, because, like, people rightfully point out that the run game's been atrocious. They don't even really talk about the pass blocking as much as they should. But it's like the pass blocking wasn't great last year either. But the run, the lack of a run game is what really is just holding the entire offense back. So I think they finally, because I've been kind of annoyed that a lot of the people that really liked CJ Stroud after his rookie year, like the people that, the real, like the guys that watch film of all 22 teams and everything, they've really been holding it in reserve with CJ Stroud the last couple years. Years almost to where they're just, they're tabling their opinion until they see everything that they want and need to see. And I think this year, if the run game is there for the Texans, that's the, that's kind of the corner everybody's painted themselves into. It's that, all right, he's had rookie offensive coordinators, he's had bad offensive lines, he's had this. He's had that. If they actually have a good rushing attack and the offensive line performs okay, that they're either going to be proven correct or incorrect on just what the upside is for CJ Stroud. So this year. This year, and I think the Texans might be looking at it that way, too, they'd prefer to wait and pay CJ Stroud, possibly until after they see exactly what he looks like with better surroundings.
Sean
Yep. Okay. So. So that's. I was, like, seeing positive predictions from people who follow the game closely about, about our team. That's always nice to see. And then I read the rest of the article. And I'm like, okay, okay. I would like for the person making the prediction about the Texans, I would like for most of their other predictions to make sense to me. So there's five in this article where I was like, I don't know, man. And I'm. I'm guessing part of this is you're making bold predictions to get eyeballs on it and there's that aspect of it. So there's a few of these here. Seth, I want to run by you and do these predictions make you feel better or worse about the Texans prediction that Solak has the Chiefs will miss the playoffs against. Are you simpatico with Ben Solak on the Chiefs missing the playoffs in the upcoming season?
Seth
I think that like I think we've seen in the last couple years, kind of the, the steady drain and the effect of just trying to maintain all of these players on our roster and them doing a really impressive job of getting by without, you know, losing, losing, you know, their best defensive backs at various times times, Rasheed Rice going to jail, all of those various things. And yet they haven't been a genuinely impressive offense for a couple years.
Sean
No.
Seth
And I just don't know how much just Kenneth Walker iii, who I like. I. I really like Kenneth Walker iii and I would have loved to having him as somebody to, you know, like, try to build an actual credible rushing attack and everything. But he's going to a team that still has some of the same concerns with the receiving core and their offensive, not their offensive line, as long as they're healthy, I guess. But I don't think that, that it's. With a coach that's just in his entire career, has never really cared about using the run game all that much. Even when they're capable of running the ball, he goes away from it. So no, I think missing the. If I had to flip a coin right now, I would. I think I would have a weighted coin that would say no playoffs.
Sean
No playoffs. You agree with him on that? Yeah. Yeah. I don't think it's the craziest prediction in the world. World. I, you know, the world I live and I live in the world with the odds boards and things like that. And, and that's certainly. That's driven a lot by public perception. And as long as you got Andy Reid and Mahomes that will always be perceived to be a team that can compete for a championship, your points are the same points Solak makes about the roster, which is. No, the roster is just deteriorating over time. It's the guys that are the most important guys are old on that team.
Seth
Well, and you get us. I mean, yeah, you lose Trent McDuffie and it's like they've done a good job of losing some of their better players, but then they brought back what's his name there from the Titans. Yeah, the Jerryus Snead who's just been a shell of himself. Maybe, maybe being back with Spagnolo is just the ticket for him. But it just. If you're. If you're taking the logo out of. Just looks like any other team that was really, really good for a while and then they have a painful period where things just kind of. You lose enough by attrition over time that at some point you're. You're back on the rebuild process.
Sean
Fanduel or. Yeah. Fanduel's odds board for Super bowl winner in 2026. Rams far and away number one, five and a half to one. Then the Bills at 10 to one. The Ravens at 11 to one one. The Seahawks, the defending champs, are 12 to one. The Chargers are fifth on the board at 16 to one. And then the Chiefs. So the Chiefs in the eyes of the betting community at least. Still, I don't know how much action they're getting, but they're fairly high up the odds board. Okay, Solac prediction. Vikings will win the NFC North.
Seth
What's he basing that on?
Sean
Let's see here. What is he basing that on? I had looked at what he was basing the next two Vikings will win the AFC North North. He's got a lot of words in here. He says that the Vikings, they were the clear. The sportsbooks have them in last place right now. They're coming off a JJ McCarthy year in lots of various quarterback stuff. They signed Kyler Murray says Kyler Murray should elevate them back to above average quarterback play so they will be better at quarterback the other side of the ball. The Vikings are the only defense that he trusts in that division. Yeah, he trusts the Vikings defense more than the Lions defense. Defense, the Bears defense and the packers defense.
Seth
I can't at this point. I just can't say that I'm a
Sean
no on this one.
Seth
At this point I can. I'm intrigued by Kyler Murray. But it's not like this is the first time Kyler Murray's been in Shanahan type system. They tried that with him in Arizona. So maybe, maybe Kevin o' Connell will be just that much better at implementing it. And you can see where, you can see where the potential is is with him running that system. But it's just he's still. He's still very much in a like you have to prove it to me mode. But Kevin o' Connell is also the guy who turned Sam Darnold's career around. That's they're intriguing. It's very, very intriguing. But I it's not enough for me to say oh yeah, they're going to win that division.
Sean
Yep. This is one that I hope happens again. These are Benjamin Solak's big predictions. He predicts the Texans are going to win the AFC this year. Year. This is the one I'm really other than that one. The one I'm really hoping for. He predicts Jonathan Taylor will get traded to the Bears before the trade deadline.
Seth
Oh, that would be awesome because the
Sean
Colts are going to be underwhelming this year.
Seth
They'll be underwhelming.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
And they'll do. Oh boy. How much how much does he say he thinks they'll get for Jonathan Taylor?
Sean
I don't get question he the part where he gets to the actual trade of Jonathan Taylor. Taylor talks about he compares them to the other backs, you know that that might be available.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
He says the Colts. If the Colts come out of the gate slow and consider a change at mid season, Taylor will surely draw trade interest. His start to 2025 prove that he still has best running back in the league. Potential playoff. The the trades I've seen Seth, I just don't want to read an entire paragraph on the air. The. The trades I've seen involving Jonathan Taylor typically are like a third round pick.
Seth
He probably didn't appropriate price in here anyway. Yeah, I just. I'd be really surprised if Jonathan Taylor got traded away. I think the Colts the Colts will probably be boy, I don't know. It's. They're going to have to put it all on Jonathan Taylor and Jonathan Taylor is not a guy that's been able to stay healthy consistently in his career. And depending on how much I mean like if Daniel Jones isn't all that mobile and he was only doing 7 on 7 during minicamp, he wasn't doing team stuff. It takes a big part of his threat away from him and then it just becomes okay, we got to load up against Jonathan Taylor and the Colts will be all too happy to run him 25, 30 times a game and it could get really, really ugly. I don't know if, I don't know if he makes it to the trade.
Sean
That's the thing I was thinking I'M like, yeah, or, or if you're trading for him at the trade deadline, you're going to get a guy who's got, you know, you know, 14 games worth of tread.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
On his tire through only seven or eight games of the season. You know that they just used him and abused him. All right, pain and Pendergast with you. Good job. Benjamin Solak, Texans coming out of the afc. I'm here for it. All right, coming up next, let's circle back to the Astros. Tatsuya Imai did a terrible thing to me yesterday. He made me look stupid. Not that it's hard to do, but he made me look really, really. And we will explain why as we head into the 8 o' clock hour. Coming up next on the Powers that Be podcast, we examine the players and

Fall in the air to right center. Ridler makes the call and the catch and the Twins of one won this series two games out of three and won the season series four games to two eight three. The final today with Minnesota winning.
Sean
Ah, we haven't heard Todd Callis say that in like a month. Thereabouts few weeks at least. Twins win the series. We haven't heard an opposing team I
Seth
didn't even I didn't know it was possible to lose a series.
Sean
I didn't either. I had started to think like this is just what happens now. They just win series. But obviously not. They lose this series. They lose eight to three. Last night night, Tatsuya Imai did not do a good job of keeping them in the game early. They were he got shelled, didn't make it out of the second inning. And now here I am left to pick up the pieces of my Take the last few days where I said that Tatsuya Imai would basically be my number two choice behind Hunter Brown to start a playoff game. I know.
Seth
Has there been man, I mean there's, there's relievers that are prone to meltdown, but you still love them because you know, more times than not they'll or you still like them or abide by them because they're more times than not they'll come out and give you a good performance. But this is so much worse because a reliever is screwing you. You know, screwing somebody out of. You might have to use one extra reliever that night when he's not that good.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
I mean, this is a guy. This is a guy who now twice in the past four games, hasn't made it out of the second inning. You know, it just passed the second inning. It's really, really bad for a team that's really made a lot of improvement on in their bullpen over the last month. They've been great. But then you're sending AJ Blue ball out there to warm up in the first and get ready to come in and be a sacrificial lamb. I don't know what to do about it other than like, what do you. At what point do you draw the line with Imai where there's the positive performances are great, but we got to really start just adjusting our rotation to be sure that we've got a potential piggyback.
Sean
I think. Look this is, this isn't the 2019 Astros. We got a whole lot of solutions in the starting rotation. I, you, you throw the guy out there and then if, if he has one of the bad starts, you just have to adapt and go with it.
Seth
It's got to be. I know. Like, and that's where with, with Javier coming back, who's going to start off in the bull bullpen if Kai Way Tung comes back up after his Il stay, You know, Mike Burroughs, any of these other guys, you've just, you. When you don't have a six man, you've got to have a six man rotation. Even when you've got a five man rotation, I mean, you just got to approach it like it's going to be a piggyback start for Imai.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
An extreme piggyback.
Sean
Well, you got to have it in the back of your mind, at least.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
And I don't know why. I don't know what that means. The strategy is if you're, you know, if you're telling blue ball or Javier that they need to, you're. You're on notice today. Like, it's almost like you're on call, call as an emt, like you might be called in, in this triage situation. It's just that's, that's the most damaging thing. Like the loss is bad, but the fact that there's a ripple effect. The only good thing I would say about it happening yesterday, at least it happened before a day off. You know, everybody who had to pitch yesterday, much earlier than expected.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Doesn't have to do anything today because they don't play baseball today. That's the only good thing about last night's game is it happened before a day off. But, but it's just, it's so discouraging. Like with Emi, and especially after reading that article yesterday that Chandler Rome had. I really, I read that article, like, okay, I like this guy. You know, like, it looks like he's adapting. It looks like he's, he's not being stubborn about things.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
He's not making excuses like he was at the beginning of the year and of course he's pitch better now. There's, you know, fewer excuses that need to be made. But it's not just that he has a bad start, it's that he has a cataclysmically bad start.
Seth
Right.
Sean
Seeming like every three or four times.
Seth
I've read lots of nice articles about you, but I also don't want you pitching for the Astros.
Sean
Right.
Seth
You know, you got to Separate the two at some point. So if we cherry pick, like let's do the cherry picking we had been doing, which was when we reset his season after we retroactively reset his season after his Feb. 18 season.
Sean
Okay. Okay.
Seth
That was his second start back since being on the IL with a tired arm. Yep. So since then, I mean, he's got a 5.05 ERA. He's got, he's. He's right back to still not being one of your best options, even though he's had some good outings. The bad ones are just so bad.
Sean
So starting with the one starting with
Seth
the, the game may 18th start against the Minnesota.
Sean
Is that the one that went four and two thirds innings? Yeah, so that was the one. And. And he, to be clear on that one, he got taken out of that one because it rained. And so he probably would have given you five or six innings in that one. If I had to guess, I. When you.
Seth
But yeah, but he also gave you three. Gave up three runs in that.
Sean
He did. He did. Yeah, he did. I remember watching that game, though. I'm like, okay, I'm seeing some good things here.
Seth
He got it. He got it real. If I remember correctly, the first couple innings were kind of dicey. Yeah.
Sean
Yeah. Like he. That was that, that one. That start doesn't concern me. Yeah, the, you know, the ones. The two thirds of an inner inning a couple of weeks ago and then the last night start obviously is. Is when you to. If you told me, like with those two really bad starts where he's given up five runs and under an inning.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
That is ERA over that period would be 5.05. I would have said over. Like that's. That kills you. That kills your ERA when you have one or one and a third innings and you're giving up multiple runs.
Seth
Yeah. I don't know. It's so twice. Twice in eight games he's had those outings.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
So like, I mean, if it, if one every four games, your pitcher. Oh, you're starting pitcher goes two thirds of an inning once every four games.
Sean
What's the big deal? No, it's not. This is what I'm saying.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
It's not ideal. I get it. But this is why I said it's not the 2019 Astros. Your other solutions right now are Spencer Araghetti, who's even worse than Imai right now, who Mike Burrows, who's been bad for other than three or four starts all year long. Peter Lambert, who is. Feels like a clock is ticking on him. He feels Like a bomb that's ready to explode at some point. And then Hunter Brown that, you know,
Seth
I blame Dana Brown for a couple days ago saying that the pitching is starting to stabilize. I. All right, man. This has felt like the least stable ferry ride I've ever been on that I'm not even so sure going to reach the port. There's been some good things in the bullpen. The bullpen has. Part of the problem is that the bullpen has done a better job, but they're also pitching massive amounts of innings because you don't have starters that can actually put eat any innings for you.
Sean
Yep. Yep. So, yeah, it's not good right now, man. It's for. Well, I say it's not good. I mean they, they've been. As a team, they've been fine. They were. I saw a graphic yesterday. I think they had. They had the best record in the American League for the month of June and they had like the fifth best record in baseball for the month of June. So it's, you know, it's, it's been better. But Emi getting knocked out, getting knocked around yesterday, not great.
Seth
So next opponents, the Rays, which we'll hear on two different streaming services. Apple on Friday.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
And Peacock on Sunday. Right?
Sean
Yes. Yeah. But Peacock, we get callous and Julia. Yeah. So we're not getting the, we're not getting the national announcers on that. Yeah. So they got the raise coming up.
Seth
Raise. The Nationals and the Rangers before the break.
Sean
Okay.
Seth
Then we're back at it. So the. If they just, if they cruise on and just win another couple series here, we'll see.
Sean
I'll be.
Seth
I'll be irrationally cocky about their prospects after Friday's game versus the Rays.
Sean
Text message. Good morning, guys. As I know absolutely zero about soccer, it looks like this past. It looks like, like we weren't allowed to replace the guy that got a red card in this past game. I know he can't play in the next game, but we will be. Will we be able to replace him and have a full pitch of players? Yes. There will be 11 players on the field against Belgium on Monday. He got.
Seth
It was like an extended power play. No, no, I think it's a very fair question.
Sean
It is an extended. You don't have Flo baller again for that game.
Seth
If you've come to the place where you can ask non soccer experts questions on about soccer and hope that we don't make fun of you for asking a stupid question, you've come to the right place. I will Never call any kind of soccer question asked to me a stupid question.
Sean
I was a little known fact. I was a United States Soccer Federation certified referee in high school. Oh, wow. Yeah. Yeah.
Seth
So you can explain offsides?
Sean
I can explain offsides, yes. Yeah, it's when the ball's played. You got to be in onside position. There's. Yeah, it's probably not a weird.
Seth
I guess that's where it's weird that the offside. I guess it makes more sense depending on if you're in a hockey region or not. I feel like people that watch hockey probably get the offsides a little bit more intuitively. Yeah, yeah, but it's. But if you're. If you don't watch hockey, you don't necessarily quite get the same correlation. Is that fair?
Sean
Yeah. Well, in hockey, not to go too deep, and in hockey, offsides is always related to the blue line right there, whereas in soccer, it's related to the opposing defense. Are you behind. Behind the defense? Is it only you and the goalie when the ball is played to you? When the ball is passed to you? So I. The. The funniest thing I've seen about that is, is when they look at the. The var. The replay and a player's offside by a fraction of a millimeter, and they. To the letter of the law, they call it like, it's. He is offsides by like the. Like his sleeve is past the defender and they like, it's to the millimeter meter. And the funniest tweets I've seen are people going, hey, so explain this offsides to me. Well, if this player is offsides by even a fraction of a millimeter, the goal is disallowed. Okay, well, explain to me how the clock works. Well, the referee just adds time and stops it whenever he wants to.
Seth
Nobody's ever really sure. Exactly. Nobody questions him about it.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Yeah. It's pretty cool. Yeah. They're so comfortable with so many of the vague thing.
Sean
Yes. Yeah, I got.
Seth
If Houston gets a hockey team, I got a really bone up. I know very little about hockey.
Sean
Really?
Seth
Yeah, yeah.
Sean
It surprises me a little bit.
Seth
Does it?
Sean
Well, Cornell's a pretty good hockey school.
Seth
Yeah. But I would just go and just yell stuff and have my hockey player.
Sean
Yeah, yeah. And you're from that part. You're, you know, you're from a part of the country. Yeah.
Seth
But it was like hockey was a rich kid. Like, I didn't grow up near a. Well, I guess I kind of did. I don't know. It just didn't seem, it wasn't as big a. It wasn't as, wasn't as big a thing at our school. A lot of hockey fans there's a little surprised. It was one of those things that very few kids played hockey at my school because you had to get up and like go to go to practice at 4am oh yeah. To drive into the city to get ice time and everything.
Sean
It's. It said it is a, it is a uber commitment.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
By parents like it is. It's expensive to play. There's a ton of these days. There's a ton of travel for the, you know, the club hockey and things like that.
Seth
I kind of looked at where we were. I kind of looked at as a rich, rich kids sport.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Maybe it's not like, like in Canada everybody does it but here in a lot of places, at least where I was, it was more like, okay, like these are kids at prep schools or whatever.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Now that my school turned into a rich kid school, so now we have a hockey team.
Sean
You live there when it was blue collar.
Seth
I lived there when. Yeah. It wasn't hard Scrabble. Yeah, I guess, whatever it was.
Sean
Yeah, yeah, yeah. No it's a major, it's a, it's a major, major commitment for sure. Sure. Hockey is Payne and Pendergast with you here on a Thursday. Here is. Here's Kawhi Leonard speaking of Canada. He's going back to Toronto. Here's Sham Sharanya. Actually, on the Kawhi Leonard back to Toronto situation, there was a preference for
Seth
Kawhi Leonard to stay in Los Angeles.
Sean
But once it was made clear that there was no future there, he settled on Toronto as his preferred landing spot. And sources told me there were three keys to this. One is the familiarity with the Toronto Raptors organization.
Seth
We know he spent that one year there.
Sean
He made it very clear that he would leave after just one season. But that one year, Bobby Webster, the executive vice president of basketball operations made the trade to go get him with Brian Wright, the Spurs GM Back in 2018, the City of Toronto as well. And the ability now to go to the Raptors and contend in the Eastern Conference and to be able to say,
Seth
say that I ended my career with the Raptors after playing for the Clippers and the Spurs.
Sean
So I'm told Kawhi Leonard views this as an opportunity to retire in Toronto. They gave a lot of. They gave up a lot for him too. I mean Toronto, Brandon Ingram's a good player. Grady Dick, two first round picks, a First round swap two second round picks for a guy who, you know, probably going to play 40 games in the regular season this year. Like, he doesn't, he doesn't play a full schedule. He just does.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Kawhi Leonard, but he's a conquering hero up there. The one year he was there, they won the NBA championship. They love him up there.
Seth
Yeah. Yeah. And he left with. They, they knew what it was when they got into it. It was no hard feelings or anything. Like there wasn't Santa.
Sean
It was a mercenary situation.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
And they got what they wanted out of it. Which, which if I localize this, you know, Kawhi Leonard is going back up there a champion. He was a champion there and he's going back. And I'm sure they're going to be celebrating that. Of the guys from the Astros who are no longer here, we kind of experienced this last year.
Seth
Ever get Carlos Correa back on this? Hey, what I was going to say, so magical.
Sean
Yeah, we. We kind of. We kind of experienced that a little bit last year with, with Correa. Is there anybody else from the. From those two teams that you would
Seth
kind of wished that somehow Dallas Keiko would come back? You know, and it wasn't ever. It wasn't going to be for a high dollar amount or anything, but I was always kind of hoping for maybe a Dallas Kaiko return to where he gives you just an incredible playoffs. You know, like he's kind of been on the fringes for a while and then for like the, the Astros just pick him up for dirt cheap and he just has his last great dying gas. Yeah, that's not going to happen, obviously.
Sean
No, no. Is he even.
Seth
What's that?
Sean
Is he even pitching still?
Seth
I don't know, but I think because I feel like he's one of the guys that kind of gets lost in the shuffle sometimes.
Sean
Definitely does.
Seth
He was part of. I mean, he was part of this. Getting them back to the playoffs.
Sean
Yes.
Seth
In 2015. One the side young winning a game for you in the play. Yeah. Like all of these things in that. Because there are other guys that were there for multiple. Multiple World Series people, though they don't really just acknowledge him as much as they should.
Sean
I think I texted you this yesterday, but I took my rules of tribute videos.
Seth
Currently a free agent, by the way.
Sean
He's currently a free agent. Okay. I took the rules that I established yesterday for those who missed it yesterday. You know, I was. This is. No, this is nothing personal with Victor Caratini. I was a Little surprised he got a tribute video the other night when the Twins came to town.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
And I feel like the tribute video needs a. There needs to be a threshold above which you've meant to the Astros in some, in some fashion to where you do or don't get a tribute video.
Seth
You and you. And a lot of our listeners were disgusted with my take on it. Yeah, there are a lot more tribute videos. I don't give a damn.
Sean
They called new participation trophy after that.
Seth
Yeah. Yeah. I don't look at it like some kind of trophy that you get a trivia video.
Sean
So. So I do.
Seth
So.
Sean
So I, I actually, I actually adjusted my criteria. I became a little looser yesterday with it, Seth. But I said, I said the criteria. The initial cover charge is you must have at least one of the following on your Astro resume to get a tribute video. An All Star season season, a top five mvp, top three Cy Young, top three Rookie of the Year or a Gold Glove. Any of those during the period the. The 25th. And I expanded it to 2015, 2015 through present, you get a tribute video which got Jose Altuve, Dallas Keiko, Will Harris, Lance McCullers, Chris Davinski, Carlos Correa, George Springer, Charlie Morton, Alex Bregg, Eggman, Justin Verlander, Michael Brantley, Ryan Presley, Jordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker from Valdez. All of them made all star teams as. As Houston Astros. They will get tribute videos someday.
Seth
Okay.
Sean
Top five mvp, top three Cy Young, top three Rookie of the Year and Gold Gloves guys who weren't on that previous list.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Garrett Cole, Hunter Brown, Christian Javier, Luis Garcia, Yuli Guriel, Jeremy Pena, Mauricio, Dubai on. I feel like just on those two lists alone, I pretty much got everybody that deserves one.
Seth
That deserves one. Yeah. I don't. There was nobody on that list where I felt like it would be excessive.
Sean
Right, right.
Seth
A trivia video.
Sean
Right. Now, the ones that I added based on the. I'll call it the World Series set of rules where if you didn't, if you weren't a big award winner or an All Star, but you, you have that sort of kitschy cult hero, we'll call it kind of a vibe is if you did something significant in the World Series, a game saving play, an iconic individual performance, maybe a memorable performance performance on the way to a World Series. So the ones that I added almost like at large tribute videos.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Marwin Gonzalez, based on his home run off of Kenley Jansen in game two of the World Series. Brian McCann based on his RBI doubles in game six and seven of the ALCS and a home run in game five. That 13 to 12. Game. Game.
Seth
Okay?
Sean
And he caught every inning of that World series to Brian McCann. So I'm cool with Brian McCann. Brad Peacock. People forget about this. Three and two thirds innings of hit list relief in Game 3 of the World Series. In 20.
Seth
Brad Peacock's never had a good game acknowledged by the fan base in the history of his time here.
Sean
He's getting acknowledged now with a tribute video. Yeah, Chaz McCormick, obviously, for the catch. Trey Mancini had that big. He had the big defensive play in Game 5.
Seth
Big defensive ball hit directly to him
Sean
of 2020, the 2022 World Series.
Seth
That was a critical moment. It wasn't a ridiculously hard play.
Sean
So now you're the one that's being the.
Seth
I don't like Mancini. He was. Yeah.
Sean
Cancer survivor. I'm sorry, I forgot you hate cancer survivor.
Seth
No, no, no, no. I love it. You know, not every cancer survivor should get traded for and do nothing for an entire half season until you make a typical defensive play.
Sean
Remember how good he was? Like the first couple games he hit home runs.
Seth
Like greatest pickup.
Sean
All right, I can listen to you on. On Mancini, the last one, Hector Neris, he had a 1.5 ERA in the postseason the year they won the World Series.
Seth
And very likable.
Sean
Very likable.
Seth
Okay, so we did. Did Redick make that list?
Sean
He didn't make a list.
Seth
Sorry. Jake Marisnik. No, no. What about tenure? What about tenure with the team? Like a team? I can't just be. He's on the team for five or six years.
Sean
Tenure is what's gotten us into trouble with the educational system. I don't want to. I don't want that. I don't want that to happen. With my tribute.
Seth
People might have fond memories of just whatever it was. Cool.
Sean
Maybe I'll feel like.
Seth
Is there no Miles straw category in here?
Sean
You know what it is? This is. I'll give you three at large picks based. So yours would be Marisnik, Reddick and Luke Gregerson. Maldi. Luke.
Seth
I don't know.
Sean
That's great. I love that you have the list in front of you.
Seth
I don't have. I was just the only one. I was looking at a random World Series. Funny.
Sean
Yeah, that's funny. All right, so that's the list. And it is. And it's unflinchingly rigid. Sorry I painted pender gas with you. All right, coming up next, the United States plays Belgium on Monday. This is the last show that I will be here for before that game. So I want to do 5 reasons I hate you for Belgium. We didn't do it for Bosnia. You know, Bosnian people felt like it
Seth
was a little too. They might have been a little too loaded.
Sean
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Seth
But we made that. We made it. We. It made the right decision.
Sean
We can do it for Belgium, though. Five reasons I hate you Belgium edition is coming up next. At Amica Insurance, we know it's not just what's inside your home that matters.
Seth
It's who you share it with.
Sean
That's why we work even harder to protect it. And as a mutual insurance company, we're built for our customers.
Seth
We prioritize your needs and are here
Sean
for you when you need us. Amica empathy is our best policy. Visit amica.com and get a quote today. Hey, y'.
Seth
All.
Sean
Poodle and Maddie here from reality Gays, grab your favorite thong because for the first time, we're heading to the villa for the new season of Love island usa. I can't wait to watch Ariana babysit these shiny, oiled up adults who I'm pretty sure aren't there for. For the right reasons. From the homewrecking bombshells to the absolute wreckage of movie night, Pull up a day event and join us every Wednesday
Seth
for all the Love Island USA drama.
Sean
Find reality gays, wherever you get your podcasts. All right, Pain and Pendergast, let's do this. Let's get a little patriotism going here, people. We've got our country's 250th birthday coming up this weekend, and the United States faces off against. Against the hated Belgians on Monday. And if you hate them already, you're gonna hate them even more in the next seven or eight minutes, I tells you.
Seth
Yeah, bunch of it. You know what? Bunch of. You know, one thing they hate, they hate when you confuse them with the Netherlands and the Dutch. And I say, okay, be bigger.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
You know, like, do you expect me to know everything about everything all the time?
Sean
Be bigger.
Seth
Bigger. Do something that makes me take notice.
Sean
Yeah, exactly.
Seth
Where I actually have to understand there's that you're not the same country. The same.
Sean
You're basically the Rhode island and Connecticut of Europe is what you are. You're just basically one big, you know, up there, like, just one big snooty patch of land.
Seth
And they got a couple different groups, though. They've got the Flemings and the Walloons. Oh, yeah, those are different groups. Yeah. Different languages and.
Sean
Oh, okay.
Seth
So it's culture and everything.
Sean
Okay.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Like the hatfields and the McCoys. It's not two actual families that are fighting each other all the time.
Seth
I don't know. I just know that if I had to choose sides, I would definitely side with the Walloons. Okay. Because of their stupid name.
Sean
Okay, here we go. Five reasons I hate you. Belgian edition. In honor of Monday's game between Belgium and the United States. Number five. This is actually a revenge game. There's an actual soccer reason to hate Belgium. So, Seth, in 2014, Belgium knocked the United States out in this very round of the tournament. The round of 16, two to one was the final score. Tim Howard, the goalkeeper for the U.S. was amazing in that game. He had 15 saves. That's a lot of saves in a soccer game.
Seth
That's.
Sean
He was standing on his head, as they like to say in hockey.
Seth
Was there any controversy, as they like to say in the UK not that I.
Sean
Not that I recall are aware of.
Seth
I've heard they got. They got screwed over.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
There's officials. They. They screwed them over.
Sean
Revenge. Revenge game. That's reason number five. Reason number four, they have a city named Brussels. And it just reminds me of Brussels sprouts, which are the worst smelling food of all time.
Seth
They named their city after a vegetable.
Sean
After a vegetable that smells like that people. After a vegetable that smells like farts. When you heat up.
Seth
Up, they do you know what happened though, Sean? Yeah, they made a. They made kind of a. A renaissance this century. Brussels sprouts did. And they.
Sean
I'm aware, my wife.
Seth
They made them a little less bitter. They bred them a little bit less bitter. But I call those American sprouts. Those are my American GMO sprouts.
Sean
Taking those over.
Seth
You can't even get these over there because of your strict anti GMO laws.
Sean
Yes.
Seth
Not over here. We let science make your. We make it. We have the silence. Help helps us take your toilet vegetable and turn it into something edible.
Sean
That's exactly right. We are taking your stinky fart vegetable, making it edible and smellable, and we're gonna be slap you on Monday in this. In this soccer game.
Seth
So.
Sean
But for now, I think Brussels sprouts are still the. The. The scourge of the culinary world.
Seth
Brussels sprouts.
Sean
Brussels.
Seth
That's another reason to hate Brussels sprouts. Yeah.
Sean
Yeah. We have. Why the acid. The end. All right, sticking with food number three. Belgian waffle. Little overrated. Belgian waffle. Overrated. I know I may get pushed back from you on this. I'm Guessing you're a fan of the Belgian waffle.
Seth
I'm a fan of waffles of all sorts.
Sean
I'm just not a fan of sweets for breakfast, I think.
Seth
So you don't like waffles from Waffle House?
Sean
I don't like. No, I don't, I don't eat waffles. I don't eat waffles. I don't eat French toast. I rarely eat pancakes. I'll occasionally eat pancakes because they come with your meal at IHOP or whatever.
Seth
You don't have to put syrup on it. You know, they're pretty good.
Sean
No, I know.
Seth
Just butter. Pretty damn good.
Sean
I actually, and I think you, you know this from, from sitting with me up in the press box. You rarely. I don't eat donuts, you know.
Seth
Yeah. So you're just not a, you're not a, you're not a bread based dessert guy.
Sean
I'm not a sugar based dessert breakfast guy.
Seth
So you don't like. Oh, for breakfast?
Sean
For breakfast? For breakfast. Oh, no, I'll eat, I'll eat, I'll eat. I'm not a huge sweets guy in general, but I'll eat dessert.
Seth
You know what? I don't think a donut is like actual breakfast food, I guess. Yeah, some people do, but. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So where a lot of people, whether you get away with eating a pancake and somehow, even though it's got cake in the word. Yeah. You somehow trick yourself into thinking you're not just eating a big old pile of sugar for breakfast.
Sean
I'm just not a fan of the sugary breakfast. And thus.
Seth
And the Belgians. So you basically think of the Belgians in creating the waffle and inventing it are to blame for our obesity.
Sean
I think they are very. Certainly we can point the finger at them. I, I, and I know in this segment 5 reasons I hate you that I like it when the two of us both collectively really hate on whatever the reasons are that we've got here. I, I knew going into this one, I understood that I was not going to expect you to climb on board the Belgian waffle. Overrated. Take that.
Seth
Sean. Do you know the, the, the immense sense of pride you have at a, at a hotel breakfast. Get up. When you're, when you're eating the very, you know, the very sophisticated continental breakfast. Oh, yeah. When you make your own Belgian waffle,
Sean
I think that's cool, actually.
Seth
Yeah, I manufacture my own Belgian waffle. I know how to work the ass. Sometimes you got to help somebody in there, be like, well, this Is like, you actually have to flip it over.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
They'll be like, why? Because.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Idiot. Stupid American.
Sean
In the instructions.
Seth
This is what the Belgians do.
Sean
Stupid American.
Seth
Stupid American asking why you have to flip the Belgian waffle maker.
Sean
No, I do. I like the. I like the process and watching, you know, like, if you got, like, a waffle bar there where the. You got a chef that's putting all the little fixings in and stuff like that.
Seth
Listen, they don't have that at the Marriott Variety, the Fairfield Inn. We don't have an omelet DIY stories about the Plaza at home.
Sean
All right, number two. All right, so number five, this is a revenge game. Five reasons I hate you, Belgium edition. Number four. They have a city name. Brussels, which reminds me of the stinkiest, fartiest food in the world, Brussels sprouts. Routes. Belgian waffle. Overrated, Which I know a lot of people will disagree with, and I get it. Number two, Jean Claude Van Damme.
Seth
He was Dutch.
Sean
Belgian. Yes.
Seth
GMO Dutch. That's what I call Belgians. Pretenders.
Sean
Also overrated, because every Gen X guy, when he was making all his movies back in the day.
Seth
Yeah. He would do.
Sean
Remember, his big move is the splits.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
He'd drop into the splits slits.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Man, there were so many groins that got ripped because of Jean Claude Van Damme back in the day.
Seth
Did you see all the guys at parties trying to do the Jean Claude? Yeah, yeah, dude.
Sean
It was a Gen X staple back in the day.
Seth
Those movies are so cringy. Those are some of those Jean Claude Van Damme movies. You didn't realize how much of a B movie they were at the time.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah.
Seth
Oh, and it was like. I don't know, man. He was like. He might as well have been a porn actor. Like, he didn't have any. He was a horrible, horrible actor.
Sean
Yeah. All those, like, action. Like the Steven Seagal movies.
Seth
Oh, yeah.
Sean
They're all super. Those. Those are Those. Those might be those, Seth, that. Those types of movies.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Might be the biggest category of movies from when we were younger, where my kids are like, what did you see in this?
Seth
Yeah. Because whenever you think about something that's stupid that kids like these days, you got to remember. Oh, yeah.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Me and my buddies thought that this. Including some of the early Schwarzenegger ones, absolutely stupid trash.
Sean
100%. 100%. So that's reason number two. Jean Claude Van Damme and all the groins that got ripped back in the 80s and 90s because of him.
Seth
I had no Idea. He was Belgian. It all makes sense now.
Sean
Belgium.
Seth
Is he going to be at this game?
Sean
Oh, I hope so.
Seth
I will let sweep him so hard
Sean
they get a flash up to Jean. How old is he now? He's got to be.
Seth
It's like 94.
Sean
Yeah, he's got to be super old.
Seth
Yeah, no, he's not. He's not that much older than us.
Sean
All right, number one reason. This is a collective of several smaller reasons. You know, I like to gather the weird laws from places that we hate on. These are actual laws in the country of Belgium, you must have an ID on you at all times, starting at age 15. But you can get carded apparently for being a human being at any time. And if you don't have your ID with you, you get fined. You get fined. Just. I don't know if they just do these random, you know, ID checks or whatever, but you have to have it on you at all times.
Seth
Just the side that's closest to Germany there, that does that.
Sean
I don't know. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. No nighttime raids on places like a,
Seth
you know, like law enforcement.
Sean
Yeah, no law enforcement raids from 9pm to 5am Shut up.
Seth
What? Wait, no, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. So they're not allowed to. If there's like a drug operation or something, they're not allowed to raid it.
Sean
With some exceptions during normal drug dealer hours, generally speaking, you cannot raid. You must do it in broad daylight. Yeah.
Seth
When should we go after the. When should we go after the drug trades?
Sean
Lunchtime, of course.
Seth
They probably. Probably 8:30am when they show up for
Sean
work, they show up for their Belgian waffles. Yeah. Yes, voting is required in Belgium. Yeah, you must. You must vote in Belgium. Here you have your option of voting.
Seth
Right, right, right. Which is. Yeah, and that's. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'd have to. You know what? I'm going to sit down and read somebody's essay on this because. Yeah, there is that sense that, like, you would like the people who are voting to really care about voting and everything. But I wonder what the.
Sean
Yeah, the, the other, the last.
Seth
I was only a political science major for seven days, so I don't feel like I don' an opinion on this other than because. Because this is what we're doing. I'm gonna say that's stupid.
Sean
That's fair.
Seth
You just like, oh, great. You just want everybody that doesn't even want to vote to go in and press a button.
Sean
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. This, this one, this is a Little nitpicky when I was pulling up the, you know, Google, give me some stupid laws, but apparently they tout their, their colors in Belgium as red, yellow, and black in that order. And the order on the flag is black, yellow, and red. It's out of order, I guess.
Seth
That work?
Sean
Yeah, it's. I don't know.
Seth
It's just that, so they say we're the red, yellow, and black. We're the red, yellow, and black. It's built into their stupid Dutch songs and everything.
Sean
Or the, you know, the, or the, you know, the, the, the, you know, the, the constitution of their country. I don't know.
Seth
People disgust me. Yeah. Never going to Luxembourg.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Ever.
Sean
Luxembourg. I like that you're naming every country other than Belgium.
Seth
Every tiny country that I couldn't point out.
Sean
Yeah. Yep. So those are the five reasons I think the biggest one, though, Revenge game. Got to get revenge for 2014, man. Been 12 long years. I've been stewing over that for 12 long years. Either that or I was just reminded of it when I put this segment together earlier. All right, that's five reasons I hate you, Belgium edition. All right, we've got some great names on here, Seth, that people want us to put through the tribute video filter from the Astros over the last decade. Decade. There's some good ones. I think you're going to get sentimental about some of these.
Seth
Oh, yeah, good.
Sean
Yeah, we'll do, we'll do that. We'll do that.
Seth
I haven't tried in front of a man in a long time. Do that in the next time.
Sean
Switch over YouTube, everybody. But also, coming up next, this is how not to handle being a bust in the NFL. We will have that for you coming up next. All right, we'll get to some of these names that people want on the, on the Astros tribute. Put. Put through the tribute video filter here that I created a little earlier in the hour before we do that. Also, people pointing out one thing, Seth. We just did 5 reasons I hate you, Belgium edition.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
And I had, I didn't realize this, I guess, because I don't mind it, but apparently it is a Belgian thing to have mayonnaise with your French fries.
Seth
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Would you have put that on reasons to hate you?
Sean
No, I actually don't mind mayonnaise with French fries. I, I. What I typically do is I'll mix ketchup and mayonnaise together and like a blend.
Seth
That's the thing. There's a lot of fried dip sauces that are mayonnaise based. Correct. You wouldn't. You don't think about it because there's usually other stuff mixed into it.
Sean
Yes. Yeah.
Seth
I just. I tried it with straight mayo once because I think they do it in parts of Canada, too. Okay. That. And I just didn't. I couldn't get with it. But I was just using old, plain old hemp.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Where. Yeah. I might have to try a French. A French fry.
Sean
I don't mind it. That's why it's not on there for me. I like. I. I don't. I don't mind it. So. So I don't know if that affects the listeners and how they feel about me.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
It's weird that Belgium came up with so many things that should make you fat as hell.
Sean
Right.
Seth
And we just took it and did we. You know, we.
Sean
They.
Seth
They walked so we could run.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
And by run, I mean, like, kind of stagger until we have a heart attack city. Because they had French fries with mayonnaise.
Sean
Yep.
Seth
The Belgian waffle.
Sean
Yeah, the Belgian waffle.
Seth
Man, you should be fat as hell over there.
Sean
And they're not.
Seth
They're busy riding their bicycles everywhere, apparently.
Sean
So. Yeah. So we played this audio earlier this week. I did not realize it made it surfaced and actually had articles written about it, but apparently it's from last October. Either way, it's. It's some fun audio. It's Johnny Manziel.
Seth
Johnny Manziel claims it's from this last October.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah. But even when we played it, I went and. And looked it up. Cause I'm like, boy, I thought. I think I've heard him say this before.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
But when I looked and saw some. A couple outlets had written articles in the last two days about it. I'm like, all right, maybe it's new, but either way, it was new to a lot of people, including Riz the. The host up in Cleveland on the ESPN affiliate up there. We'll get to him in a second. But we know Johnny Manziel did not have a good run in Cleveland as the Browns quarterback. So Johnny Manziel told the Nightcap, Ochocinko and Shannon Sharpe he hopes that Cleveland goes oh and 16 every season. I sit here today and I go back and forth with the man, am I going to let Cleveland off the
Seth
hook and just, like, let it go,
Sean
or am I going to sit here with hate and animosity in my heart for the rest of my life? And I finally sit here today, I'm like, I think I'm going to be pissed that I'm going to hate them forever.
Seth
So. It is what it is, man.
Sean
No, no love for the Browns. I'm rooting for Owen.
Seth
Sixteen seasons.
Sean
Every single season. Okay, so. So. So like a lot of people, or, you know, at least like this host we're about to play. It popped up on my timeline this week and similarly popped up on Tony Rizzo's timeline. He's the. He's one of the hosts on the ESPN radio affiliate up in Cleveland. And this is what he had to say on his show. Like, hey, Johnny, why all the hate for Cleveland? Johnny, I'm serious. I'm gonna be serious a moment. Go Cat. Here, bro. What did every. What did anyone do for you except root for you to win? And when it went south, okay, that's how it goes. As Baker.
Seth
But.
Sean
But what? Did someone hurt him? Was.
Seth
Is.
Sean
Is he a jilted lover? Is there some. So did I miss. Was there an incident where somebody attacked him? Did he. What.
Seth
What went.
Sean
So why. Why the hate. Why the hate for the team that drafted you? Why? I can't answer that for him. I don't know.
Seth
I don't know.
Sean
I mean, maybe he thinks they didn't
Seth
put him in a good position to
Sean
win or build the team around him. But also, he's the guy who didn't put in any work while he was here. He was the guy that would leave after a Monday practice to go party. Well, I think that the. The guy who's Rizzo's co host there is making the best point, which is like, look, you gave them every. You are not just a classic bus that just wasn't good at football.
Seth
Football?
Sean
Yeah. You didn't try at football.
Seth
No, no.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
He would have failed anywhere he went.
Sean
Right.
Seth
And they were the team. The one team that was dumb enough to draft him in the first round after multiple other teams that said, no, we're not taking him no matter what, because they knew about what all his issues were. The Browns decided to take a chance on you. You did nothing to disprove them and thought you were just going to be able to do what you did in college and just kind of booze your way through. Through life.
Sean
Yep, that.
Seth
Yeah, you have. That's what's so annoying about Manzel these days, that he does these interviews where he takes accountability and understands how he let people down and everything. And then in the next breath, we'll start pointing the finger and blaming all the. Everybody that. That should have supported him or should have done this or done that.
Sean
That's. That's what he does in this tweet. I'm going to read this tweet here. So Johnny Manziel reacted. He comment tweeted that video we just played. So this is what he said. He does the exact, he does that. That exact thing you just talked about, Seth. He says, riz, you stupid C word. These comments were made in October of last year. But of course you bored homophobic slur in the Cleveland media have nothing to speak about because your quarterback stopped banging massage therapists and you can only speak about losing so much to all the people that listen to this trash ass show.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
So the whole first thing is him just like name calling and being mad at this Riz guy guy for sticking up for Cleveland as a city. Continuing. This is Johnny. My tenure in Cleveland was doomed by a lot more people than just me. I've taken plenty of responsibility for my failures in that building and in that city. By the way, have you spoke to or about the sixth pick in the draft that year, Justin Gilbert, lately? That was their other first round pick that year, cornerback who was. He was also a bust. Or what about our all world coach that was hired Mike Petton? Sarcasm. Obviously Tom Brady couldn't have won with our roster from 2015. Just move on F off and leave me out of this bs okay.
Seth
Yeah, leave me out of this bs. It's like. All right, well, he's responding to something you said on a pretty large podcast, the Nightcap, which by the way, I mean, honestly, Johnny, like, who. Who makes his living by staying relevant somewhat, I'm guessing. But whatever, whatever trust fund he has and then whatever he makes from his social media. I was kind of surprised that like Johnny Manziel saying what he said back in late September, early October last year, that that episode or that clip on the Nightcaps YouTube channel only got 146,000 views, which were for a channel that size. And with a name like Johnny Manziel, I'm like, I'm surprised that didn't go viral at the time. I'm guessing it was just because the NFL season had kicked off and was in gear. Yeah, as opposed to. So like if he had said it or if it resurfaced in July, then this is the kind of stuff that gets traction. But he said it like, yeah, like. Yeah, he's. He's taking the shots and now acting like the victim that somebody is pushing back against.
Sean
Yeah, yeah, no, he's. He, he, he is, he's not likable, man. The other thing he does when he goes on These podcasts is. You're right. Like, he. He. He takes, like, pseudo accountability for what he did. He starts pointing fingers, and then he starts bragging about all the partying he was doing back then. Like, that part. Right.
Seth
He leans into, like, what. How out of control he was and everything, and yet at the same time, blames the people who couldn't rein him in.
Sean
Right.
Seth
For. For them being the issue. Like, despite him not opening his spending one single minute on his iPad or anything else like that, that it's. It's got to be somebody else's fault.
Sean
Yeah, he's just. He's a. He's a warped individual, man. Like, his. His version of. His version of accountability is just, like, twisted, you know? It's. It's. It's. So, anyways, I'm Team Riz on this one. All right. Some of the names coming in. Seth, on the Astros tribute video, Worthy. There's a lot of people sending in names that they didn't think they heard me say, but I did. Like, there's a lot. There's a couple people saying, I didn't hear Michael Brantley's name. No, I read it straight off the list. I said, michael Brantley's name. Brantley is definitely deserving of the tribute video, or I'm sure got one. Back in the day. Dallas Kyle and Charlie Morton both were on the list. Okay, here we go here. Now we're getting some. I did say Chaz McCormick for that catch. Yes, I did, Marwin. I said, okay, here we go. Colby Rasmus.
Seth
Oh.
Sean
Remember, Colby Rasmus was like. He was like a folk hero. He was the one guy that I can remember, and I'm sure there's been other players. Players.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
He became a free agent, and. Oh.
Seth
And he. And he actually.
Sean
He accepted the qualifying offer.
Seth
He accepted the qualifying one year, 12
Sean
million or whatever it was. Colby Rasmus was like, oh, I don't know if I'm gonna see that in free agency.
Seth
Didn't Colby Rasmus have, like, an issue with a parasite growing in his ear or something at one point? Yeah, yeah, yeah. He was like. He kind of. He primed the pump for Josh Reddick in a lot of ways.
Sean
Yeah, yeah.
Seth
Like, Colby Ras. Colby Rasmus may have been more genuinely backwoods than Josh Redick, who kind of played up a certain Persona and everything, where Colby Rasmus was the real deal. I felt like he might have grown up on a. On a wooden platform in a swamp.
Sean
Yeah, yeah. And he looked like it, too, you know, like, he just. He had the long Scraggly hair. And so.
Seth
So, okay. His ear injury in 2016 was insane.
Sean
Okay. Okay. So that was the year that he was playing under the qualifying offer. That contract. Yeah.
Seth
Is.
Sean
You know what? Colby. Colby Rasmus. You know what I'm putting him in. He had a home.
Seth
He played through that ear injury that caused, like, vertigo. And.
Sean
Yes. Yes.
Seth
He was just like. He was out there. He didn't know which way was up, literally. And he's out there gutting it out,
Sean
if I'm recalling correctly. Also, Seth and I know that season in 2015 didn't end in the World Series, but it was the first season that the Astros were back on the map. Colby Rasmussen. Rasmus hit the home run that gave the Astros the lead in the wild card game against the Yankees that year. Yeah, the Dallas Kaiko game. Kaiko pitched that game. Colby Rasmus hit a big home run in that game.
Seth
That's right.
Sean
He's in.
Seth
Yeah. He gets a tribute video.
Sean
He gets a tribute video for that. And dealing with the vertigo.
Seth
He had assist that required surgery.
Sean
Oh, he's in.
Seth
Where blood regularly seeped out of his ear. Something that rasmus unwisely downplayed in 2000, 2016. But he had vertigo. When he stepped up to the plate, he had just all these issues, and he just played right through without ever saying a peep about it. He required full reconstructive surgery for his inner ear.
Sean
Tribute worthy. I'm not a monster, Seth. She's tribute worthy.
Seth
He had the surgery performed by a. By an alligator
Sean
in the woods.
Seth
In the swamps.
Sean
Text message. I'll never forget Brad Peacock. I was coming home, didn't want to wake my girl girlfriend, so I drove around listening to that game three you were talking about on the radio and screaming about Peacock. That's awesome. I love stories like that. And then I'm getting a lot of. Shut your mouth about Belgian waffles being overrated. Yeah.
Seth
You're gonna. You pissed off a lot of people.
Sean
I think I did. Yeah.
Seth
We might as well just get political instead of talking about you hating Belgian.
Sean
That is probably more polarizing. The Belgian. I don't hate them. I just think they're overrated. That's all. It's. Yeah. I don't hate them.
Seth
You don't like waffles in general, though.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
So you hating the Belgian waffles is like. That's true.
Sean
It was five reasons I hate you. So you're right. Yeah.
Seth
Like, say I. I hate white people, especially the Welsh.
Sean
Yep. This list doesn't include if this list doesn't include. Okay, this is before we went through the list. Someone said, if this list doesn't include Jean Claude Van Damme, I'm out of of here.
Seth
It did.
Sean
I love that. Well, the list of.
Seth
Oh, no, but maybe that's a list of somebody who should get a tribute video, though, too.
Sean
Oh, the list of Jean Claude Van He.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
You know what? As far as being like an 80s cheeseball sort of icon. Yeah, I'm here.
Seth
He's in really good shape. He was very pliable. Which Tom Brady will tell you is the most important thing in life.
Sean
Yep.
Seth
I'm gonna see how old he is and where he is right now.
Sean
Okay. Check it out and then we'll come back with that information.
Seth
Like, he's in the shape I expected.
Sean
What's he looking?
Seth
Five.
Sean
Okay.
Seth
He's not. He's not like. Oh, he's in pretty good shape. Never mind.
Sean
He's only 65, actually.
Seth
Yeah, he's in really good shape.
Sean
Wow. Okay, so he was in his, like, teen, like, early twenties when he was doing all that stuff. Okay.
Seth
Yeah, I knew he wasn't that much older. Remember, you were 13.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Yeah. Some people that are 23, it feels like they're old. They're way older than you.
Sean
No doubt. No doubt. Yep. All right, into the 9 o' clock hour we go. Hey, let's circle back to the Texas Texans. The one big question remaining for both the Texans and their key opponents coming up this year. What are the most interesting ones? The one big question. We've got that coming up next. I'm Dana Carvey. I'm David Spade. Flying the Walls back for another season now on audio and video every Monday and Thursday. So many incredible guests will be joining us. Follow and listen to Fly on the Wall everywhere. You get your podcasts. Too good to be true. All right, into the. Into the nine o' clock hour we go. Pain and pender gassed with you. Good to be with you on a. What's a getaway day for a lot of folks?
Seth
Thursday.
Sean
Thursday. Yeah.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
What did I say?
Seth
I don't know. I didn't know if you were starting.
Sean
No, I definitely. I definitely said Thursday. Yeah, No, I feel like. I feel like I'm. I'm having a good. I'm having a good day, man. So the Athletic has the biggest, one outstanding remaining question for each NFL team as summer break begins. This is from the staff.
Seth
Usually. I really enjoy these exercises leading into the season. Except for this year. Anytime there's any kind of title like this I know exactly what the item is going to be for the Texans, and it's something about CJ Stroud.
Sean
CJ Stroud. Yeah, yeah. CJ Stroud. Have they done enough? And Mike Jones is the one who provides the answer to this. He writes for the athletes. Have they, the Texans, done enough to help CJ Stroud take the next step?
Seth
Yeah, so I guess that's, I mean, it's C.J. stroud related, but it's more about the offensive line, the running back, the wide receivers, all of that.
Sean
Yeah, yeah, it is. Do you think they've done enough to help CJ Stroud take the next step?
Seth
I think. I think they could have done more. I mean, like, honestly, the Bears last year were just so incredibly aggressive. Aggressive at going out and fixing the offensive line.
Sean
And then the center went and retired after the year that they.
Seth
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But they still haven't shown that level of aggression. But over the course of two years, I can kind of appreciate, you know, Casseria is almost taking like the Dana Brown's approach. Casario with the offensive line has taken Dana Brown's approach with the pitchers, which he's become a volume shooter where. All right, we're not necessarily going to blow you away with any of these acquisitions, but hopefully a few of them work out. And I think that's what, that's what ended up happening with that Ingram. But also Cam Robinson was part of that strategy.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
And they brought in Trent Brown last year and like, look, hey, that was, that was a very low level signing he was making. You know, not much more than the veteran minimum, but he ended up being a big part of that win streak. But this year they kind of, they upped that a notch. It still wasn't like they were going off after the top tier free agents, but just by addressing it with so many numbers, I'm, I'm cool with it right now.
Sean
Is there, is there any connection? Because look, the thing, the thing C.J. stroud is getting criticized the most for this off season is the postseason. Last year more so the Patriots game, obviously, because they lost that game and it was four interceptions in the first half. But the Steeler game, one great either. But the Patriots game specifically yet hurt not having Nico Collins. Collins. But there wasn't part of me watching that game going, Boy, C.J. stroud's throwing four interceptions because they haven't done enough for him. I'm watching it going. C.J. stroud's throwing four interceptions because either he's just making silly decisions or the moment's too big for him.
Seth
It. It so much of it felt.
Sean
And they couldn't run the football, I guess, to be fair.
Seth
No, I know. And I think that's the thing, is that I thought he had done a good job all year of managing, that there were things that the offense could and could not do. And I think in the regular season, when you're racking up wins and you're seeing where you are in the division, maybe it was an easier challenge psychologically. But I think when you get into single elimination, maybe that's where just that feeling of this game really, really matters. And we're not doing anything offensively. If it was without thinking about the concussion or anything else, like if it was just him just pushing too hard.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Knowing that. All right, this. This time, this is where we're in the playoffs and that we got to make something happen. Like maybe if his faith in the process flagged or whatever it might be.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Because even though, you know, people point out that he made some nice plays in the Steelers game, there are at least some positive things to point out too.
Sean
Oh, yeah. Christian Kirk had 150 yards.
Seth
Right. And that is true. But he also had some really bad. I mean, the flea flicker was one that you just got to eat it on that play. You know, you air mailed the past a wide open Nico Collins. Like, there were some things that happened in that game that were still just really, really bad and atypical for cj.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah. And the weird thing too about that, and we'll get to some of the other teams here in a second because there are some interesting questions heading into the summer break here for a few of the Texans opponents this year. The other thing that people might say is, with respect to the New England game is, well, Nico Collins missed that game also, and he's clearly their A1, number one guy. The weird thing about that is that Nico Collins missed the San Francisco game in the regular season. And I think you could. That game has an argument as CJ's one of like his three or four best games as a pro.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
That San Francisco game, there was no Nico Collins in that game. C.J. was like 30 for 38 for over 300 yards and they won the game. Game.
Seth
Something about that, though, is that the 49ers were missing half their starters on defense and they were. They ended up being one of the worst defenses in the league. You guys know I gush about Robert Salah, but it was bad last year with how many injuries they had to the starters. Yeah, yeah. So, like, it's just. It was a. Playing the Patriots at home in bad weather, playing that defense without Nico Collins is a lot different than playing the 49ers at home in good weather.
Sean
Yeah, for sure. For sure. All right, let's get to some of the other. Some of the other teams here with the. The burning questions for the. For summer break. As I get back to the article here, let's get to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The. The Jacksonville Jaguars. One outstanding question for them is can they replace Travis H.N. jr. They really just kind of chose not to. They just let him walk, right.
Seth
As they did with. I mean, they let Devin Lloyd walk on the defensive side of the ball. They are like, the guys that they have returning as starters largely are guys who are already on the team. So including guys who are backups to Achan, where they like Tutin, I like
Sean
Tudin, I think, too, is a good player.
Seth
Tootin's an interesting one. They do have a lot of guys on their roster where you wonder. Okay, you remember Parker Washington? Parker Washington is a guy the last couple years. He'll make a big play against the Texans, and I'll feel like, oh, boy, he's really coming along. And then you look at his season totals and he's got like 400, 500 receiving.
Sean
But he's a good player, man.
Seth
I know, I know. Like, no, you feel like he's the guy that might really all of a sudden kind of click for them. But they just also, even though they like Tutin, when the offense, when the passing game started clicking, they really still weren't able to run the ball at all. And that's what's so curious about. Okay, are you really. Are you really just believing that you're going to fix the things in the run game despite not adding anybody to your roster? Or are you putting all that much on tooting or just improving the skill? Or are you just feeling like you're going to be able to just do it all with Trevor Lawrence's arm? Because I'd be. I'd be really nervous going into a season thinking, oh, they can do it all with Trevor Lawrence's arm.
Sean
I would, too, if I were a Jags fan. As a Texan fan, I hope they do that. I hope they lean heavily on him.
Seth
Parker Washington ended up having 847 yards.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Last year, 390 the year before.
Sean
He's a play. And he's. He's great in the return game, too. He returned a kick against the Texans for a touchdown. No, he's one of those guys, Seth, that is kind of like Alec Pierce was for the Colts. The first few years were like, okay, his numbers aren't eye popping, but boy, I feel like every time I watch that team, he's making a play or two in the game to the point where during the season last year, I was looking up his contract to see how many years he had left because I'm like, boy, when he becomes a free agent, that feels like he'd be one of those kind of smart signings where you're not having to pay him 30 million a year. Yeah, he'd be really good for you.
Seth
And he's only had one good game against the Texans in 2024. It was. He had six receptions from. For 103 yards. And that was the one that really stuck out in my mind.
Sean
Yep.
Seth
And then last year he's had a couple of key catches and critical moments. Yes, that are like really nice snags. But. So even, even in the Texans games, he didn't have great output in 2025. But I felt like, man, this, this kid seems like he's kind of money.
Sean
Yep. Yep. So. So that's Jacksonville, Cleveland Browns. They are on the Texan schedule and of course their situation still includes desean Watson. And that's their big question. Who's going to be the quarterback of this football?
Seth
I had, because you listen to a lot more Browns radio, but the quote that caught my eye on this one was Watson's one opening to win the job is new coach Todd Monk and wanting a mobile quarterback. Yeah, but Watson through the spring looked like the same inconsistent player he was through the first three seasons in Cleveland. Is Watson, is he still mobile after coming off of those two? He tore the same Achilles tendon twice.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah.
Seth
Is he still looked at as a mobile quarterback?
Sean
You know what, as much as I listen, listen in on Cleveland radio, I don't recall listening to them talking about his mobility. Mostly because the two hosts that I listen to probably aren't out at camp. They're not watching him. And I don't know how big a topic that's been. I. I just know from watching what I've watched and, and again, this is like the Tank Dell thing. Like, boy, you watch him doing these cone drills and he looks great. Same thing with desean. Like, boy, that guy had two Achilles tears. He sure is moving well with no other human beings to compare him to in this video that he's running around, around doing.
Seth
So.
Sean
I don't know, Seth, it's a good question.
Seth
And you know that he hasn't had his. His season high anytime since 2020 is 1148 yards.
Sean
Season high for what?
Seth
For passing over pat.
Sean
Oh, wow.
Seth
1148 yards. Yeah. I think that was rushing. Sorry.
Sean
Well, that's why I thought you might be going. Just because we were talking about his.
Seth
Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, I was just like. Since, like this way. He threw her 4,800 yards in 2020.
Sean
Yeah, he.
Seth
He led the league since then. He's got a combined, like, about 3,400 yards passing total since then.
Sean
Seth, he's played in 19 football games since that season.
Seth
I was being too generous. He's got 3,010 yards passing since then. Oh, no, no, no. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. 3,010 yards total.
Sean
Yeah, yeah. Dude. He's played in 19 games since he was a Houston Texan.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
He has made nearly $200 million and he's going to make another 40 this year.
Seth
Yeah. 3,365 yards total. I know. It's been 200 in the guaranteed money is still like his. Nobody's ever had 240 million totally guaranteed.
Sean
Right.
Seth
Like, without any little. All the other options you see, or all the other guarantee numbers you see, there's like a player. There's like a team option here or there or whatever. And so they consider them practical guarantees. Nobody's had 240 million. 100%.
Sean
Here you go. Yeah, here you go.
Seth
No matter what.
Sean
Here's your money.
Seth
This is your money.
Sean
19.
Seth
So, yeah. Since 2020. Missing all of 2021. I don't know if he was injured or maybe something going on in his personal life. And then all of 2025. Yeah.
Sean
2000. Yes. Over the course of five seasons. 19 games. God, man.
Seth
19 games.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Three. 3000, 365 yards.
Sean
Here's what Zach Jackson, who covers the Browns, says about that particular quarterback battle you mentioned. The one opening to win the job is Monkin wanting a mobile quarterback. But Watson through the spring looked like the same inconsistent player he'd been in Cleveland. Shador Sanders finished the spring strong but didn't thoroughly outplay Watson. So the battle will resume in late July and continue into August. That was actually the big topic up there, Seth, as this was all playing out. No TAs in Mitch minicamp is that Todd Monken wanted to pick somebody heading into summer break. That was QB1.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
And he wasn't able to. And it's not because both guys were amazing and just, you know, just throwing haymakers at each other. It's that Both guys.
Seth
Nobody seems to win.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah. It's wildly inconsistent. So, so that's Cleveland, other Texans opponents. And the big questions, how about the Eagles the opponent that they play on Christmas Eve Eve?
Seth
I'm. The Eagles are another team because we, we always watch this with a little bit of extra interest when somebody who's in the Kubiak Shanahan type of tree wants to, Wants to do what? Coobs and Shanahan.
Sean
Is that what Manion is their new.
Seth
Yeah, Manion's going to be running mostly a West coast style. A lot of QB under center, doing a lot of stuff that's different from the way they've operated. I mean, they're under center in the tush push all the time. But I, I like that if Jalen hurts, adapts to it, it could end up being, you know, one of these, like every other year where all of a sudden Jalen hurts. Did I say Jaden Daniels? Jalen hurts, you know, looks like one of the best quarterbacks in the league. I'm intrigued by it. I, I, I'm not going to believe in Manion until he proves it.
Sean
Yeah. And that's the question that's being asked for this, and it's Brooks Cabina who has the answer. Shout out Brooks Cabina. Does the system suit the course quarterback?
Seth
Does the system shoot the quarterback? And then, I mean, the, the whole other part about it was, man, there's so many, there's always weird stuff going on in Philadelphia. But Jeff, Jeff Stoutland choosing to leave the team. It feels like it. When I see some of the people talk about the Eagles, the players, where they're trying to, where they're trying not to say anything wrong or anything. They almost look like, at this look in their eyes of like, like a hostage Victoria video. I feel like whatever level of dysfunction they've been comfortable, they've actually thrived with a certain amount of dysfunction in Philadelphia. Maybe this is finally the breaking point.
Sean
Maybe I, dude, for me, in Philly, like, they've, they've passed the point for me where I'm gonna start using that against them. I, they've just existed in it the entire time with Sirianni there.
Seth
I just feel to be what works with Sirianni.
Sean
Yeah, it's like they're like a team version of one of those. You know what they are, are. They're like the team version of Stefan Diggs, where Diggs has all this stuff going on in his private life. He's getting sued, he's got baby mama drama. He's he's always got drama going with teammates, and yet the guy just goes out, puts up 1200 yards every year even though he's got all this stuff. The Eagles are like the team version of that. Like they got all this stuff going on. Nick Sirianni's jawing, literally jawing with fans at games. AJ Brown. Brown hates Jalen hurts. This guy hates that guy. Who. Who the hell else? Constant over constant turnover at offensive coordinator and you look up and they win 12 games every year.
Seth
Right, right. And it's a disappointment. I think that there's a part of what the way they operate that I feel like with Jalen hurts because he's such a unique quarterback. He's just kind of fits into his own category of his skill set. Even for dual threat quarterbacks. He's just, he's a unicorn because of the power element. You know, you have a lower body. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That. I almost feel like they just. I feel like they're at peace thinking, you know what? Just every couple years we need to bring in a different offensive coordinator. He's got a different way of using a mobile quarterback that can make up for some of his deficiencies as a passer. And we just spring it on the league and if we feel like they're starting to catch up, then we just bring in a different offensive coordinator.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Sean Manion will win a Super bowl and then get fired two years later.
Sean
Right, right, right, right. Excuse me. A couple more of these. These are final outstanding questions heading into the summer. And we're doing some of the Texans opponents this year, the ones that we find interesting or entertaining. This one I know you like for the Giants. Will Malik neighbors be ready for week one? Yes. Now, that's not the funny part.
Seth
The answer is probably no. And they just keep bringing. They bring in all these decrepit old guys and it gets treated with such fanfare. Yeah, Beckham Jr. Being out there, I'm watching drills of him going like running through cones at OTAs, and people are saying, look, he's still got it. He's still got it. I. He hasn't had it on NFL field for three years now. I don't know. The Giants are. The Giants are fascinating to me because I feel like the fan base is super optimistic. And yet at the same time, the fan base understands stands that they're probably not even going to be a.500 win team this year.
Sean
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Seth
It's kind of refreshing in a way.
Sean
Okay, these are the oldest. These are the oldest free agent receivers still out there?
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
What if they signed Keenan Allen? Keenan Allen was actually pretty damn good last year.
Seth
Oh, yeah, yeah. No, no, no. Keenan Allen would be a big step up from.
Sean
Yeah, he'd be big. Yeah. Yeah. See, it's tight.
Seth
They've got JuJu Smith, Schuster, Odell Beckham Jr. On the roster, Braxton Barrios in a way. Like, if. If you're looking at him as an actual receiver, good luck with that. He's not old. But they've got names. Names you recognize?
Sean
Yeah, yeah.
Seth
So, no, I think Keenan Allen would be a guy like. Yeah, that's a name. And he's pro. He's past his prime, but he's still very effective.
Sean
Keenan Allen, Tyreek Hill, and Stefan Diggs are all out there right now. What was the.
Seth
Remember, there was that fervor over Tyreek Hill was going to be ready sooner than people thought.
Sean
Oh, I hadn't seen that.
Seth
Somebody threw a bunch of cold water on that.
Sean
Okay.
Seth
He had a really. The nature of his injury was. Was way worse than I think people realized.
Sean
Oh, yeah. Yep. Yep. All right. We. We don't.
Seth
Who was the other one?
Sean
It was Tyreek Hill, Tyree Kill, and Diggs.
Seth
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Diggs. Makes a lot of sense.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Seth
I wonder. The fact that Diggs hasn't signed yet kind of surprises me and makes me wonder, okay, maybe there's. Maybe there's something more. Maybe personal life. There's always something in his personal life, so who knows?
Sean
Yeah, it's kind of a dead time. Yeah, kind of a dead time. We'll see. I take him back here. All right.
Seth
It's not a dead time to sign somebody.
Sean
No, no, I know, but it feels like everybody's on vacation and stuff like that. I painted Pendergast with you. All right, We. We are not. This is our last day this week, so Friday. We are not on the. Seth and I won't be on on Friday, so we won't get to do a Take a Mania this week, but maybe. Maybe. We have an impromptu Take a Mania matchup coming up in the next segment with a wild take about the Los Angeles Lakers from a frequent Take a Mania participant. We've got that coming up for you next. Okay, so the Lakers made a bunch of moves, and I'm not gonna act like I didn't notice the same thing Stephen A. Smith is about to point out here. They let LeBron go. They resigned. They gave Austin Reeves a big extension. They brought in Walker Kessler. They made a couple other moves that, by and large, all involved white dudes. Yeah, they.
Seth
The, The, The.
Sean
The graphics that were being put up yesterday were hilarious. Of all the white dudes, the Lakers have been signing and resigning. Now, that doesn't affect my handicap on what I think the Lakers are going to be this season. They've got one. One of the five best players in the sport, when he's healthy, happens to be white. Luka Doncic. Austin Reeves is a good player. We'll see. I mean, they're. They're not on OKC's level or San Antonio's level in the Western Conference, but. But they're. They're a good basketball team. Stephen A. Smith, I think, took it a step further here. This was Stephen A. Smith yesterday. Not a fan of the Lakers. Gather up all the white dudes. Strategy. Strategy. Where the hell the Los Angeles Lakers think they going with a bunch of white dudes? Your three top players are white dudes. Really? This ain't golf. This ain't baseball.
Seth
Hell, it ain't even soccer.
Sean
What y' all think this is? Basketball? In NBA history, when have you seen your three most prominent players on a basketball team all be white? And that takes you to the promised land. Somebody gotta say it, so I'm saying it. This is basketball.
Seth
Basketball.
Sean
I'm not complaining. I'm simply making the point. The Los Angeles Lakers. You ain't going anywhere being led by three white dudes. In today's generation of basketball, I'm letting you know right now, it ain't happening. And Luka's a bad brother, and Austin Reeves is no scrub. And they both have earned what they have earned. And then with LeBron James or some
Seth
other brothers, I get.
Sean
But those two. And Walker Kessler slur. You ain't scaring anybody with that. And Rob Palinka has done made this white dude Central. No wonder LeBron James walked out the door. Okay, so that's something.
Seth
That part.
Sean
No wonder LeBron James walked out the door.
Seth
That's why LeBron left. He was getting a little too white for him. I don't know, man. Like, Stephen A. Tries so hard. Hard. It's like it's. Yes, it's a. It's not a hard observation to make. The part, though, that's most disingenuous, though, I think, is like, he's saying, like, I don't have a problem with it. Like. Okay. By the tone of your voice and your. Your questions about this, it went a little too far in saying in NBA history. Yeah. You know, but you got to go back to, you know, like the 84 Celtics or so probably to where you get the best. The big three. The big three on your team being a bunch of white guys. Okay, well, listen, lots of things that. Lots of things that happen haven't. Haven't happened in a long time or that have never happened before. Happened all the time. Something has never happened before, happens every day until.
Sean
Yeah, it's never happened.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Until it happens. Yeah.
Seth
So I think the. The biggest thing would be if you were going to be genuinely irate about it, it would be as if they decided like, no, we're specifically. What we need to do is have nothing but white guys.
Sean
Like, that was strategy.
Seth
Nobody's really accused the Lakers of that, are they?
Sean
No.
Seth
I feel like if any, if any organization, like deserves a little bit of grace and understanding that. That black basketball players are a very valuable. You know what? You know what? It took me a long while to come around out, but I think the. I think the black basketball players, I think they're pretty. I think they're pretty established.
Sean
Okay, so can I do an impromptu, almost like a money in the bank, spontaneous. Take a mania here and put Stephen A's take that we just played up against the champ. This is Adam Schefter from last week talking about the Brendan Sorsby situation. NFL essentially sent him a letter and the NFL is declining to hold a supplemental draft. And honestly, something was amiss with this all along because every time you spoke to people around the league about when the supplemental draft would be and whether or not there would be a supplementary, I always got Paul causes and there
Seth
were never clear kind of answers.
Sean
And like, the commissioner's got to decide to have it. I'm like, what is the issue? Well, the issue is that the league, despite any gambling partnerships, the league really
Seth
does not want any part of gambling,
Sean
no matter how serious.
Seth
The league, despite the gambling partnerships, doesn't want anything at all. Anything with gambling, despite making a boatload of money from it. They want nothing to do with it.
Sean
So is Stephen. Stephen A's bewilderment with the Lakers seemingly going with some sort of all white direction with their roster a worse take than Adam?
Seth
I just. You know what? Honestly, I just. With it. When it comes to stuff like this with Stephen A, I just don't feel like dealing with it. I got is. I think it just. It's just. No, it doesn't make it all right. No, I just. I don't want this in my life.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I mean, it's. It's not the best reason in the world to Pick a winner. But it's. You're the judge. No, I know. That's what I said. You're the judge and jury. Yeah. Like it's. Yeah, it's funny. I put in. I asked Chad GPT has there. You know, I want to fact check Stephen A.
Seth
On this.
Sean
Has there ever been an NBA title team whose three best players were white? And I see it. I'm kind of glancing down while I'm looking at you and I'm seeing it start to spit out a few teams. I'm like, oh, take this. Stephen A. The 1957, 58St. Louis Hawks.
Seth
Yeah, take that.
Sean
Yeah. Bob Pettit, Cliff Hagen and Jack Coleman. 1956, 57 Philadelphia Warriors. Paul Arizon, Tom Gola, Neil Johnston. And then of course, the early George Mikin led Minneapolis Lakers. Now chat does say in the modern NBA which, which they count as roughly like the. The merger with the ABA in the 70s. These are the teams that have come close. The Dallas Mavericks in 2001, 11. Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd, who is biracial, plus Peja Stojakovic had a supporting role on the team. That's number one.
Seth
A supporting role.
Sean
Supporting role. The Denver Nuggets, Nicola Jokic and then says an Aaron Gordon. Not white. Okay. So basically they had Jokic. So they wind up on the list because he's a gigantic white guy. He counts as two white guys. And then they. They do bring up the cell. Celtics were the first one I found.
Seth
Thought of Danny A. Larry Bird and then Kevin McHale.
Sean
Yeah, that's the closest. Because I think you could argue, well, Bird was the best player in the league at the time. And Mikhail, I think was definitely one of their three best players. Mikhail was unstoppable in the low post. Danny Angel's probably. Robert Parrish was probably better than Danny Ainge. But Danny A. Was good.
Seth
He was an awesome, dominant white.
Sean
That's the closest. Yeah, that's the closest. This is important research that we're doing right here with this. For sure. For sure.
Seth
Lakers championship odds right now with.
Sean
With their all white strategy. Yeah, I'm not sure. Yeah. How is their. How have their odds moved since they've determined that they're going to be an entirely white. They're basically going to be the Utah Jazz in the Hollywood Hills.
Seth
It's impossible to have fun with this topic. Yeah.
Sean
So I'm having fun right now. I'm enjoying myself. All right, how about we circle back to. Should Evan Gaddis get a tribute video? Is that an easier one? Because that's a name guy.
Seth
Yeah, you go right to that, don't you, Sean? Yeah.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Evan Gaddis. Would he not hear?
Sean
It's a text that I'm reading. I don't remember any big moments that he had, but I'm starting to come around on your guys with it who have a vibe to them a little bit. You know, they just. You know, I. Fond memories of them. Just Victor Carrots. Fond memories. And you were on those World Series teams. It can't just be some dude who played on an 85 win team. And I like.
Seth
Of Caratini. I just say that's where I feel like you're adjudicating, like, sentimentality. Where the.
Sean
Yes.
Seth
You know, you. You guys are treating you guys and I'm talking to the people who said that I was acting like they're a participation trophy. Yeah. It's not a freaking prize. It's just something to show in the pregnancy game where you're like, oh, hey, look at this guy's back in town. Here we go. Look at that. Remember the good times with this guy? I don't feel like it's a. It's a. I didn't put it attach as much importance to it.
Sean
Someone says, I have a special tribute for Mike Fires.
Seth
Oh, yeah. Mike Fi. Well, what's his name? Punch himself in the face. Oh. Oh.
Sean
Oh, my God. Ken Giles.
Seth
Yeah, Ken Giles. Like, should he not get a tribute video?
Sean
He definitely should get a tribute video. Please.
Seth
Given all of his meltdown, it should
Sean
be 90 seconds of him punching himself in the face.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
On a loop. Over and over and over again, for sure. So, yeah, Mike Fires. Evan Gaddis. Getting some love on here. Trey Mancini. Someone says for that play at first base in the World Series, you were adamant against Trey Mancini.
Seth
Yeah, he didn't. They traded for him, and he didn't do anything other than make that. That nice play. Which it wasn't. It wasn't like an incredible player or anything. It was one.
Sean
It was.
Seth
It wouldn't have been an error if he missed it. Yeah, but it wasn't like the most ridiculously impossible catch to me.
Sean
But he had just come in because, remember, Yuli had let. He came in cold off the bench because Yuli had hurt his ankle or something like that.
Seth
That's true.
Sean
People forget about that. Yuli didn't play in that. In that. In that World Series clincher back in the day.
Seth
Smothered a blistering ground ball.
Sean
That's what it was. Yes, that's what it was. That's what it was. Was smothered. The blistering ground.
Seth
Died for it. Let me. Let me. I'm watching it right now. I haven't watched it. I've just been going in my mind.
Sean
Okay, so you're reacting to it right now. You're looking at.
Seth
Did have to go to the turf for it.
Sean
Yep.
Seth
I'm about to watch the replay because you didn't see it in real time. And I. I just remember at the time being like, all right, seriously, we're really making it. I mean, it went. He had to step to his left, and he stopped it, you know, with his body.
Sean
What?
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
This is where I'm gonna get nerdy. Do we know what the exit Velo was off the bat?
Seth
It was pretty hard hit.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah.
Seth
I don't know what the exit. If we.
Sean
If it was on the. It wasn't on the Astros broadcast. Cause it was a World Series game. But if it were, Blum would have given us the exit Velo a second after that play was made.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Like who? 111 off the bat. And look at Mancini making the play.
Seth
It looked like it skipped a frame or two on his way to Mancini. Yeah. Yep.
Sean
In the end, my whole tribute video thing, I was pretty welcoming with my criteria. I think we pretty much got everybody in there. Maybe everybody except Victor Caratini.
Seth
You know, the whole thing about that was. It was okay. The two outs, bottom of the eighth, runners on first and third.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
And that was. That's. That's a run for sure.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Looks like someone's coming around on the old Trey Mancini tribute video.
Seth
And not enough to, like. Lots of guys have made nice plays in the World Series. Lots of guys have made nice plays in the World Series. And you guys, like, I don't understand the. Their love for training. Even when the Astros were playing, Doozy was with. Now they were playing him earlier this year. Mancini was like, two home runs. And. And I brought up, like, how annoying that was. Like, I don't know. Trey Mancini.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah.
Seth
You just had, like, all gaga in your eyes over Trey Mancini.
Sean
He. I think he went to Notre Dame, so I may have some subliminal love for him from that.
Seth
I don't like any college players.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
I don't like any baseball player who went to college. No. Go to work like a man, Damn it.
Sean
That's it. They'll let you.
Seth
Yeah. The Angels. That's right. He's with the Angels.
Sean
The Angels. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Whatever happened to Kyle Kyle Tucker's brother. That would be Preston Tucker. He was part of the Astros when they were really, really bad. I don't know. Whatever happened to him, he did not make as much money as his younger brother Kyle. All right, painting pender gas with you.
Seth
Who was the guy that was always pudgy when he was here, and then he left and he got all slimmed up.
Sean
Oh,
Seth
oh, somebody that you didn't like. The listeners will remember exactly who I'm talking about.
Sean
Okay, text in. Was he a pitcher or was he an everyday player?
Seth
I'm not remembering anything more than the pudginess right now.
Sean
Okay, let's talk about the Astros. We got the final segment coming up. We'll find out what the guys got going on on in the Loop. Look, I'm going to be gone for the full week next week, so by the time I get back, it'll be the All Star break, the ashes.
Seth
White.
Sean
Tyler White.
Seth
That's right. It was Tyler White.
Sean
Tyler White, he got skinny.
Seth
Yeah, he got real skinny because people were like, what the hell's going on with him? We went out to LA probably, you know, back before Ozempic was widespread under guessing, and he saw that like, oh, they got the. All these actors, you know, those dirty doctors out there in LA that work with a celebrity.
Sean
Tyler White. Tyler White, that's right. Was it a.
Seth
No, he actually, if I remember correctly, it was like they discovered he had some kind of a thyroid problem or something, fix it. And he ended up being a little. Then I felt bad for getting frustrated with Tyler White at times.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
With his pudginess.
Sean
A little chunky. Oh, yeah, Now I do too. I didn't realize about the thyroid thing. All right, final segment coming up. The Astros are three games under.500 right now. I'm gone till after the All Star break. What is an acceptable record for me for by the time I get back, we'll talk about that. What the Astros got coming up. We'll talk to the guys on in the Loop as well and see what they've got. See what they've got going on on in the Loop today, question of the day and so forth. We'll do that coming up next. And so The Astros are 43 and 46. They're off today. They've got Tampa Bay coming to town for three. Then they travel to Washington for three. And then they a big series. I tell you what for, you know, for a series in the middle of July, that three game series with the Texas Rangers up in Arlington. Seth is going to be. That's a big one for the Astros.
Seth
Yeah. And time. She's a winding down. Sean, in the back half of the season here, the Rangers are the least awful team in this division for the
Sean
most way to put it, a chance
Seth
to gain some awful to gain some ground on the least awful team in the division?
Sean
Yeah. So is it reasonable they're three games under.500. So they've got nine games between. Now in the All Star break, is it reasonable for me, me to expect to come in on Monday the 12th? I guess it would be. And have the Astros sitting there at the all star break with a.500 record?
Seth
They Sean, they have three games against the Rays who Currently have the best. Is it three or four games against. Three games against. The Rays currently have the best. The best record in the al.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
You know, pacing everybody else. The. I mean, the Yankees. Yankees have been disgusting the last. They're, they're, they've been bad in the last 10. And it's even worse than that, I think, whereas the Rays have gone on our stretch where they're eight and two now over the last 10 games. So it's, it's going to be dicey. It's going to be nicey. And the Nationals aren't a bad team. The Nationals, you know, the Nationals would fit right in in the al.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah, that's right. They would fit right in in the. And that's on the.
Seth
They might be leading a division or two in the al.
Sean
Yeah. That's on the road. Texas. Texas is on the road. You know, I, I am. I'm anxious to see this with, you know, Javier coming back. They're going to use him in the bullpen. Yeah. We'll see. That's. They'd have to go six and three over these. Well, that's all they do, though, was winning series for a while. I don't think it's unreasonable.
Seth
They have to go selling. You know, the Rangers could go on. You're going to, you're going to be dealing a blow to the Rangers when you come back. Yeah. So that's. No, it's. It's doable.
Sean
Okay. It's doable. Okay. Here, let me ask you. Is this doable? Do you think that tomorrow, like last year in the Reggie and Ron radio thon.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
For the Houston Food Bank. Do you think that Payne and Pendergast will fetch the most in the auctions for the dinners, the listener dinners?
Seth
I don't see how anything else could be.
Sean
This is us appealing to you, the listener.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
To make sure that we can still flex on our co workers.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
That we generated the most money, that
Seth
we help the most people.
Sean
Yes.
Seth
And that's what matters. We really care. It's not about the ego or the pride or the ability to say that we did it for two years in a row because obviously we're superior to everybody else.
Sean
Yeah. Yeah.
Seth
It's not. It's about none of those things. It's about helping people. Yeah. The best way people can help people.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Is to pay whatever you and I are worth, which is a lot more
Sean
than anybody else in this environment. Because the people spoke last year. The people spoke last year. We ended up doing two of them last Year. You and I. Yeah. This one we are. It was. It was made official yesterday. Big shout out to Johnny Carrabba, who confirmed it with me that you and I are going to do our listener dinner with a. An auction winner and a friend of their choice at the OG Original Carabas on Kirby over there.
Seth
Oh, nice.
Sean
Yeah, we love that spot. You like the dessert Rosa at that spot?
Seth
Like the dessert Rosa?
Sean
It's like a cake.
Seth
They have that at that one. They don't always have it at every.
Sean
They've had it the last couple times I've been.
Seth
Okay.
Sean
You know, sometimes there's things that they. You know, they don't have everything on the menu over there.
Seth
I was looking at the. The canoli cake for two. That's what. That's what. If you buy the. If you. If you buy the dinner with us, you have to share a piece of cannoli cake for two with me.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
So somebody has to. And we have to share a fork. That's a. That's the other part.
Sean
And the part where it gets really uncomfortable is when Seth says we've got to reenact lady and the Tramp with whoever orders spaghetti. And Seth's at one end and the auction winners at the other. And the auction winner is like, I can't believe I paid $5,000 for this.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
This experience.
Seth
Now, that was one of the first places Brandi and I started, like, eating when we first got to Houston. As the crab is right there. There in Kirby.
Sean
It's a good spot.
Seth
We had a couple of meals there early on.
Sean
Yeah, it's kind of a. It's. It's the closest thing in town that I've experienced to, like, you go there and. And there's. There's like a 60% chance you see somebody famous there. Yeah, a lot of famous people go there. Rusty Harden is there all the time. He's famous. Andre Johnson. Andre Johnson. Andre Johnson was there the other night when we took my son Sammy there for his birthday.
Seth
What are you putting his business out there for, man? What is he doing? Does he do. Who's he there with? He's just put other people's business out there.
Sean
He's just eating. Ye. He was just. I mean, he was walk through the restaurant, you know. Yeah. So. So that'll be. That's where. If you win that auction, that's where you're going with us. So if you like good Italian food, good stories. Because we will tell stories that we can't tell on the radio. So. Yeah, that'll. That'll be. That'll be fun. So that.
Seth
Tell you this story about the funniest thing that ever happened to me at Carrabba's Grill.
Sean
Okay.
Seth
When we do that. Yeah, I'll tell that story. If we. With whoever. Whoever gets our. Whoever purchases that dinner will. I'll tell you the story. We might be sitting right near where it happened.
Sean
Yep. Sean, this is a text. Sean, get over the Astros going to the playoffs. Dude, even if they go to the playoffs, they're going to get their asses spanked.
Seth
I thought we said no Belgians allowed on that text line.
Sean
The hell.
Seth
I don't need some defeatist attitude from some damn Belgian.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
Get to take you and your stupid mayonnaise French fries on top of Belgian waffles and get off my text line with that loser Belgian attitude.
Sean
I don't get, like, get over them going to the playoffs, even if they go there. So I'm not supposed to root for them to go to the playoffs. Lopez did that last year. Lopez did that thing. Like, I'm not even rooting for them to go. I don't even want them to go to the playoffs. And, like, that just doesn't compute to me that I don't want my team to go to the playoffs. Yeah, I do. I think they're going to win the World Series. Text or no. Is that how I sound? Do I sound like I think they're going to, like, go on this tear in the playoffs? No, but I. You know what I like, Seth, as someone who likes sports? You know what I like? More sports.
Seth
More sports. Now, this is the difference, though, too. It's that I can look and see where I'm open at this point to the Astros continuing to be a different team as the season progresses. First, they were an awful baseball team. Then they started actually playing credible baseball, and then their bullpen actually got solid and good and impressive. And there's still parts of this team where, because of either injury or while mostly because of injury offensively and defensively, there's still a lot of time for them to be a completely different team in the second half of the season than they are in the first. Yeah. Am I going to be over the moon with the playoff possibilities if they squeak into the playoffs with a.500 record? No, most likely. Likely not. But I think there's a chance that they go on a run a couple of times with Javier coming back, Blanco coming back. Was Neski possibly. And then Pena, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. I think that you might be you might feel differently in September than you do right now when you say, okay, well, why bother? Even if they make the playoffs.
Sean
So Ken Rosenthal did his. His selections for the All Star team team out of both leagues. The only Astro he has, not surprisingly, the only Astro he has making the All Star team is the only one that's probably going to make it, which is Jordan Alvarez. If you had to pit and, and I think it goes without saying, Seth, they're going to need your Don A, to be healthy and B, to be playing like this to make a run at anything. Playoffs run in the playoffs, whatever. That's. That's undebatable. You need your Don Alvarez to be your Don if you're going to. If you're going to win enough games to get to and maybe make some noise in the postseason. If you had to pick one other guy in the Astros, you get. Your genie has come down and given you a wish and you can make one other Astro to play at an All Star level the rest of the season after the All Star break.
Seth
Who would it be? I mean, that's a little. I
Sean
pick one, I guess.
Seth
Okay, so do I go with the guy who, if he's playing at an All Star level, it's the very best. I mean, like Hunter Brown, I guess. Is he in the category? Well, yeah, yeah. No, I think.
Sean
I think that's the interesting debate, actually. Is it someone like Jeremy Pena or is it a pitcher like Hunter Brown who only pitches every five days?
Seth
Yeah, I guess that's a. It's hard with Hunter Brown because we just don't even know how he's actually pitching this year necessarily.
Sean
Right.
Seth
So I guess, like, let's leave Hunter Brown out of it. Like, let's assume, okay, you're going to get an All Star caliber performance out of 100 brown. Okay.
Sean
Okay.
Seth
I would say it might be. It might be. No, I don't want it to be e Mai because then he's definitely. I want. We're stuck in that bind now where we want Emi to look incredible the second half of the season, which also means that there's not a chance in hell Imai's going to be here next year.
Sean
Yep.
Seth
That we lived through the hard part and then that he went off. I don't know.
Sean
Maybe he, maybe, Maybe he doesn't want to go through an A re acclimation again with another 10. I'm going to go to. Too deep down the E. My.
Seth
I'm going to go. I'm going to go with two. Two guys. Cam Smith Cam Smith. Smith.
Sean
Okay.
Seth
Because that would all. Then, then that would pretend great things for the future.
Sean
I wasn't even thinking of Cam Smith. But that is a great answer for that very reason.
Seth
Yeah. You didn't ask me who's been playing like close to an All Star. No, no, no.
Sean
Just they're gonna play like an All Star. Yeah. Because that would mean that, that there's potentially we're gonna get that moving forward. That is a win wish for this season and beyond is what that is. Because my first thought is someone like Altuve, because I don't like as long as they tried out, Altuve is never going to be batting eighth in the lineup or anything like that. Like he's, he's going to try to Altuve out there every day. So as long as Altuve is going to be out there every day, then we may as well get the All Star version of Jose Altuve. That would. That I. So I thought about that one. Camp Smith's a great one. That's. That's, that's better than any that I had in mind. Good job, Seth.
Seth
Man. He's still at a.684 OPS on the.
Sean
I know. And he's hit a lot of home runs lately. It feels like.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
You know, so. Yeah.
Seth
Cherry pick Cam Smith.
Sean
Cam Smith's a good one.
Seth
If he keeps up the level of play that he's had in the last
Sean
few games, make sure to include the game that he hit two home runs in.
Seth
I'm going to be. I'm going to cherry pick this to the extreme shot.
Sean
Okay.
Seth
You don't even want to know now. I won't cherry pick to the extreme. I'll go. All right. I'm going to be. Try to somewhat fair and go back to June 23rd.
Sean
Okay. A week ago.
Seth
So where over the course of eight games. Oh, over the course of eight games. Got a.945 OPS.
Sean
Yeah. He's hit a bunch of home runs late.
Seth
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean that was with a stretch. That was with a stretch of no hits in there for a few games too.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
That just. Yeah.
Sean
That goes to show you what kind of hole he dug for himself.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Dude's at a nine something ops for the last eight or nine games. Whatever it is, he's still 685. Ay yai yai. All right. Painting pender gas with you here on a. On a Thursday. John Lopez, Reggie Attitula are here. Gentlemen. It's great to see you. It's fantastic to see you, Reggie. You and Ron are doing the radio thons. That's right. And we can't wait. We just. We're talking to the audience about the auction item that Seth and I have. I heard y' all selling it. Honestly, it's.
Seth
It's a good sell.
Sean
Yeah, it really and truly is. Yeah, yeah. The storytelling, the food, the. The environment, the atmosphere. And we're competitive. I think we. I think our auction got the most last year. If I believe it's mistaken. I believe it did. So we need to defend our title. Yeah, yeah. So you do. You do. Because I'm telling you, kids, man, it is. It's for the kids. We can drive some competition. 100%.
Seth
I. I will say.
Sean
Say, I just got news now. Here's the thing. This is. We're getting in under the buzzer again. The radio thon is tomorrow. Yeah, yeah, yeah. If. If something makes the. If something makes the cut, right?
Seth
If.
Sean
If. If the NFL allows this Brendan Sorsby to come in on the supplemental draft. The auction.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
There is a really tempting auction item that'll blow y' all out the water.
Seth
Really.
Sean
Is it. Is it an item or is it experience? Experience. It's an experience. But again, I can't say that it's definitively going to hit, but just from trending. It's trending. It's trending in the right direction.
Seth
Look, it is.
Sean
It is daytoday. All right. It is questionable, but better not be many more days. Game time decision. It's day to daytime decision, but it might. Look, if this comes through, I'm telling you, y' all are going to have a hard time competing. Is it going to be. It's going to beat me and Seth, you think? I think so. I think so. So you've got. You've got a hope against your charitable instincts that this one doesn't get in. So you. Does it involve anybody amongst the staff at the station here? It does. It does.
Seth
Is it some streamer that we've never heard of?
Sean
No, no. I can tell you that that's not the case. Someone coming for our jobs? Yeah, maybe. Okay.
Seth
Those guys only make money when they get 20, 000 teenagers to spend a dollar a piece on, and then they make millions doing that. But for an auction item like this, I don't think their fan base is necessarily gonna.
Sean
No, no. There's some really cool things coming. You guys were talking about baseball, and I'm going to be real indelicate in doing this. Seth, you're my favorite leadoff hitter. Would you be willing to do that tomorrow and jump on with us for the first couple hours of the show.
Seth
Oh, yeah, like right at 6:00am yes, sir. Oh, sure.
Sean
And I enjoyed that so much. Getting to like have the energy of pain and Pendergast with Seth. Yeah. Like jumping in. Yeah. I mean, obviously I was.
Seth
I don't want to take over the show or anything.
Sean
We love it.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
They got 12 hours. I will not. I will not be on that early because I will be on the West Coast.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
I got to figure out.
Seth
I'm still.
Sean
This is the, the thing that's screwing with my brain today. As John saw earlier, I'm trying to fit the pieces of Sports Radio 610 into 12 hours. That makes it kind of work flow really nicely. So I'm gonna try and figure out when we can get you on the phone. I gotta figure out, like, when you're going to be kind of available. Yeah. I'm kind of driving through some wilderness on, on that day of the. I don't worry. It'll happen. I just don't know. I don't know what the schedule looks like, but that's. But I'll get on there.
Seth
I remember last year when I had to do the first week of training camp from Oregon because I had to be out there, that there was one day where, like, I don't do well with the time zone and I had fallen asleep early. I Woke up at 11pm local time. And then I was up for the rest of that until. Until our show came on at 4am local time.
Sean
Was that the same. Was that the same trip where you got up like, spontaneously at 5:59?
Seth
Yeah, my phone had died and I just woke up like, right. Like three minutes before the show was supposed to start.
Sean
Yeah.
Seth
I hadn't set up the Comrex or anything. Yeah. I'm ready.
Sean
I'm ready. I'm sitting out there in the dark by myself in this tent. Yeah. And I'm like, where's my guy?
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Yeah, he had it all along. He had it all along. Yeah, he had it all the way. Yeah, he had it all the way. You're listening to KLT AM, KLTFM HD2 Houston. An Odyssey sports station crosstalk brought to you by DNM Auto Leasing. Question of the day, fellas. Yeah, man. Has to do with the radio thumbs up on and the Houston Food Bank. Yeah. Which is going to hopefully get a lot of money. Thousands and thousands of monies. They fill pantries, man. So the question of the day, what are three things that are always in your pantry or refrigerator. Oh, okay. Not flour. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But no, I mean, it could be flower maybe. You're just real dedicated to, you know, being able to bake at any given time. Yeah.
Seth
Like the. The staples of our life. Yeah. There's three things that are always in
Sean
your pantry or refrigerator. Okay. To the point where you lose it when you run out. If you lose. Okay.
Seth
Because I do.
Sean
Okay, you do. Yeah.
Seth
Where's no more sandwich?
Sean
Okay. And then I walk across the street to Whole Foods, and I pay way too much. That's right. For whatever it is. Mine would be Ritz crackers.
Seth
Oh.
Sean
The sleeves of. You're a Ritz guy. Well, I'm a Ritz and pimento cheese guy. I like dipping in pimento cheese. So I'll have that. I'll have that as one.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
Pimento cheese with Ritz crackers. That's right. That's right. The only way it gets fancier is if you put them on the clothes. It's not the box where they're all just tossed in there and jumbled. It's this. It's the individual sleeves. Portion control.
Seth
Yes.
Sean
Right.
Seth
Yes.
Sean
So that's collectively number one. Number two, tortillas. I love to just. Sometime as a snack, just grab a tortilla, sprinkle a little cheddar cheese on it, put it in the microwave, and just. Have you ever had just a tortilla and butter? Yes. I love that, too. It's delicious. Delicious. Delicious. The other thing. Now I see why you got taquerias. The other thing. The other thing. Chick Fil A sauce.
Seth
Really?
Sean
I put. See, this is why I love this question. I put Chick Fil A sauce on everything. That's awesome. Everything.
Seth
Yes.
Sean
Yes.
Seth
That is awesome.
Sean
Yeah. So those are my three.
Seth
Mine's boring. I'll go to the pantry. I've always got tuna fish in there.
Sean
That's good.
Seth
That's quality. Somebody who has brain damage already. I figured the more mercury, the better.
Sean
Yeah, yeah.
Seth
And just really go with it. And then in the fridge, Mandarin oranges. All right. Okay.
Sean
That's good call. Yeah.
Seth
If I don't. But I can eat a bag, you know, It's a healthy snack. Yeah. Until you eat the whole bag of them. And so I try to limit myself there. And then just Greek yogurt.
Sean
You eat Greek yogurt all the time?
Seth
Yeah. It just keeps me from. It just sits in your belly. It's for days. You don't get hungry after you have a couple of. This is the key, though. You Gotta. You gotta force yourself to eat it. Unsweetened. Cause I'll have. If I have two. If I have. If I have a couple of servings of Greek yogurt. Unsweetened. Yeah, I just. I'm not hungry again for a long time. If I put any kind of sweetener in it, I'll have two tubs of Greek yogurt and then. Want to go eat a pizza?
Sean
Nothing like, I like more in my fridge than paste. Yes. Yeah. Greek yogurt with no sweetener.
Seth
Not.
Sean
Not even, like, agave or something healthy like that.
Seth
I'll do it. It just. It triggers me, man.
Sean
Any kind of.
Seth
Any kind of sweetness, any kind of sweetener, artificial or regular or anything, it just. It triggers my appetite.
Sean
What's. What. What would be bad about eating so many mandarin oranges? Is it the sugar? Is it the. The fruity?
Seth
I mean, it's just the. The overall total calorie. Like, there's no. There's no food that's so healthy that you should eat way more of it than you should.
Sean
Is it fact or fiction that you actually burn calories eating celery? Is that true? Like, you actually, you. You have a positive calorie effect. I've heard that. There's so. It's so few calories and the energy.
Seth
There's a net. There's a net calorie. That's what I've heard. I've heard.
Sean
Not. Not like, that's my workout for the day type thing. Like, what are you gonna do? We should push this to the limit in the extreme and see if that'll work. You know what a real workout is? Get on the elliptical while eating some celery. That's really going to accelerate the burn. I tells you. I think I'm in full radio thon mode because my brain was like, I want to put this to a test. I want to, like, just spend 12 hours eating celery. Yeah, yeah, yeah. If I weigh myself on the beginning, on the front side and the backside would have caloric count.
Seth
Well, yeah. To answer your question about the oranges, I did the. I did calculate the glycemic load on how many oranges I just wanted. It was definitely unhealthy.
Sean
Yeah, that's. I was just curious.
Seth
Love that people love to say, people are so stupid. They'll love to say, like, well, it's almost impossible to overeat fruits and vegetables because of the fiber. I'm like, you've. You've never seen me eat. Hello, my name. My name is Seth My name is Seth. Yeah, there's just. You don't understand. Yeah.
Sean
Yep. Yep. All right, fellas. Yeah. Well, let's. And you're literally getting on the road right now. We'll go into the airport in, like, four hours. Nice. Okay. Yeah, yeah. Are we still getting an omelette? No, don't have time. Yeah, I still got a pack. Still got a pack. So tortilla it is then. Tortilla. Yeah, tortilla with some cheese on it. And I got to get a little workout in before then. I may just eat some celery if I'm being. Yeah, that's a great point. There we go. Yep. Yeah. So flying up to Oregon, headed to a lake in Idaho and a lake in Montana. All right. Yeah, should be good. And that crosses off those states for Amy. And how many would you. She's down. She's down to Alaska. I've. I've been at Alaska for 20 years. I've been to all the other states. We've been chipping them off for her with our summer trips every year. Those are her la. These are her last three continental u. S. States. So we have Hawaii and Alaska. And then are we. Are we spreading the territories after that? I don't know. Something. Yeah, yeah. She's gonna agitate for a trip to Europe, guaranteed. Because that's where we were supposed to go for our honeymoon. Oh, yeah. But we got coveted. We got married the weekend.
Seth
Puerto Rico.
Sean
Go. I'm happily go to Puerto Rico. Yeah.
Seth
Yeah.
Sean
All right, fellas, have a great show. Thanks, buddy. Have a great radio. Thon tomorrow I will get with you on when I'll be checking in. Yes, sir. With you guys. So looking forward to that, Seth. Antibodies to you, my friend.
Seth
Antibodies. And just so you don't overeat and get fat on celery. Yeah, it's the. It's a myth that celery is a negative calorie food. Yeah.
Sean
What if I put peanut butter on it?
Seth
Yeah, that's more fiber.
Sean
Does that help?
Seth
It's impossible to overeat.
Sean
That's right.
Seth
A lot more tubs of peanut butter.
Sean
Good snack. Love that fiber. All right, well, listen, everybody. Have a great week.
Seth
Lemonade. Fresh squeezed lemonade.
Sean
Lemonade. Oh, nuts.
