being down a man for half an hour, has beaten Boston Herzigovina and has moved on to the next round of the World Cup. It was a tale of two nights last night. We had the. The Astros this. The. The streak is over. There will be no celebration play today. They lost the series. For the first time in six series, the Astros lose a series. But. But the United States won.

[Seth]

So we move on.

[Sean]

We move on to the round of 16 set.

[Seth]

Despite even Pat Mahomes last night felt that it was. That it was an unjust red card on the U.S. it's, it's.

[Sean]

It's unjust because the punishment is just so severe.

[Seth]

This is. This is like the extreme version of. Now we've got. Now we've got all the Euros saying, americans just do not understand soccer. Yeah, a little bit. A little bit. A little bit. But it is honestly the red card. And being down a player, like for the rest of the game, just having a power play against you, it's one of the most in rugby, in soccer, in hockey, any other sports where you can actually just be down an entire player, it does make me feel like American football is a little bit soft. Well, you know, God, if you go, if you went out there with 10 defensive guys on the field for, for, for every single snap. Yeah, you just concede the game.

[Sean]

I'm not even Talking about that, though. I'm talking about the fact that Ballergan misses the next game. Like, that's.

[Seth]

Yeah, that's a biggie.

[Sean]

That's, that's the part I'm talking about. Because, you know, we've watched hundreds of soccer games where teams are at a disadvantage because of a red card. And yeah, it sucks, but it's not nearly as impactful in soccer as it is like in hockey when you're on a power play, just because the sheer number.

[Seth]

It's short lived.

[Sean]

Yeah, well, it's short lived, but even like 4 against 5 is way different than against 10. I'm not counting the goalies, so I, I, I didn't like it. I didn't think the call was good. I didn't think the red card was good. But at the time, I was way more worried about, holy crap, they're gonna have to play Belgium without Ballerkin now than I was. They're down a man against Bosnia Herzegovina. Hell, they ended up scoring another goal. You know, it was one nothing. When, when, when Balagan went out. That's, that's where soccer, man, I'm like, God, these. The red card is just. That's a, that's a killer, man. He's your, he's your best goal scorer. And now he's gonna miss this game against Belgium, who, you know, they needed a miracle comeback just to get there. They were losing to Senegal with five minutes to go in the game, and they come back and win in extra time, 3 to 2 on a penalty kick. It was a really. It was a fun day of soccer yesterday, man. So, yeah, USA moves on. They'll play Belgium on Monday, and. And on and on we go.

[Seth]

Belgium's routine before the game, I can't remember, do they have a march or something?

[Sean]

I don't know. The only two that I know of are the Netherlands. They all, all the orange march to the stadium, all the fans. And then the Norway people have the rowing that they do. You know, they, they row, they sit and they row. The Norway people in a boat? No, no, like a, Like a pantomime. You know, they all, like. You haven't seen. You ever seen the Norwegian people doing the rowing thing?

[Seth]

No, I haven't seen it.

[Sean]

I'm just surprised it hasn't. Yeah, they, they sat in the middle of Times Square, all of them, and sat down and rode.

[Seth]

It sounds a little bit like the old kids in the hall skit. The urban beaver trappers. They used to. They would ride around in a canoe on land.

[Sean]

No, remember that. No, I didn't see that, but it sounds. It sounds.

[Seth]

I don't. I'm not impressed. Unless they have actual canoes with wheels on them.

[Sean]

They don't. And they. Here's the thing they did that was disgusting. The Norway people, they sat down on the subway in New York.

[Seth]

Like on the floor.

[Sean]

Yes. And road. That's nasty, man. That's nasty. The floor of a New York subway.

[Seth]

Germs said, soccer people are just tougher than us.

[Sean]

I guess so. I guess. Or dirtier.

Dirtier. So the other thing that happened last night is Tatsuya Imai made me look like an idiot.

[Seth]

Yeah, he did.

[Sean]

And I really did. I don't like when people make me look like an idiot.

[Seth]

Hey, you know what? No, Sean, you don't look like an idiot. You look like somebody who trusts people. You. And then. And that's why you're idiots. That's why you're so petty sometimes. It's because you get embarrassed that you trusted.

[Sean]

For those who missed it. Those who missed it. I have been saying for the last few days that if the Astros had to play in a wild card round, two out of three series tomorrow, that Hunter Brown would obviously be starting game one. There's no argument there. Even though Hunter hasn't been like peak Hunter since he came back. There's no argument there. And then I said, looking at everybody else, Imai would go number two for me right now. Just based on the. Until last night, he had had five really good performances with one stinker mixed in. And if you come at me and say, okay, well, that there's no way it can be, Ima. I'm like, well, tell me who it would be. And a lot of people said Lambert. And I'm just. I think Lambert's pitching a little over his head right now. And I think we saw some of that earlier this week when he gave up the three home runs.

[Seth]

Yeah.

[Sean]

And, you know. And they lost that game. Spencer Arrogetti is not pitching well at all. And it's been an extended period of time. He's not pitched well. And then who else? Yeah, yeah, Burrows. So Javier is not even going to be a starter when he comes back. He's going the bullpen.

[Seth]

You know what the pitching staff feels like right now, Sean? They feel like back in 2013 and 14, they had all these guys that were like, really good Triple A players, John Singleton and the like, that just then they would get up the majors and you'd realize, like, oh, no, these guys are quadruple a baseball players.

[Sean]

Ye.

[Seth]

They do such a good job with the education and everything or with the pipeline of development and all the things they were doing back leading into the golden era that were so good. You'd get the absolute most out of these guys when they were in Triple A, but then they would get to the major leagues and they're like, okay, they're not really that good. And I feel like the last few years with the pitchers, we have all these guys rotating through that show you, wow. Oh boy, look at this might be the best version we've ever seen of this guy. But at some point it just starts to fall short. That's what I worry about with guys like Lambert or anybody else. He's.

He's 20, 26. Brandon Walter.

[Seth]

Yeah, yeah.

Colton Gordon had a few good starts last year. Who was the big one was Jason Alexander last year.

[Seth]

Right.

[Sean]

Jason Alexander, like kept the staff afloat for a while.

[Seth]

Yeah. They give you just enough to really feel like, oh, there might be something here.

Yeah.

[Seth]

I mean, that's Dana. Dana Brown brings in six guys in the off season and you're almost thinking like, okay, well at least one of these guys is really going to show us something.

[Sean]

Yeah.

Plus, and then Imai, I mean like Imai, I still, you still see even in the midst of his bad performances where the potential is, he's just so damn erratic. Where now you've got. Okay, Kyotung goes to the Il. When he comes back, he's going to be in the bullpen. Christian Javier comes back, he's going to be in the bullpen. Like blue bottom, blueba Christian, Javier and guys like, guys like Tongue are basically just. You need as many of those guys around just in case my only goes one inning or two innings.

[Sean]

They're like the IMAI triage squad.

[Seth]

Yeah.

[Sean]

They're all on call that night. You know, we, we heard that. We heard Emai is going to be out on the town. We need, we need some extra EMTs on call tonight.

[Seth]

Everybody's been very supportive of him and

yeah, what horrible timing for Chandler.

Romeo, I know you wrote that nice article yesterday.

[Sean]

Long, really good article about IM and how he's adapting to the United States and they've got all these cute little rituals he's got with his teammates and he's learning a little bit of English and he likes these acai bowls and things like that. And then he goes out and has one of it. Like you just look at the box score. Like, oh, how did they get to him? Every way possible.

[Seth]

Home runs there's got to be. There's going to be a point where when blue ball's warming up in the first inning, he's got to be like, oh my, are you kidding me?

[Sean]

But it's four times.

[Seth]

Yeah. Like you just got. You gotta, you gotta. Reliever furiously warming up in the first inning and that's gotta get old after a point.

[Sean]

Yeah. That's the thing that like, I wonder, I wonder who I'm just gonna use Burrows here as the, as the foil to this.

[Seth]

Yeah.

[Sean]

I like deep down, I wonder which guy Joe Espada just likes better or feels better about when he trots out to the mound. Because Burroughs are e my. Because their numbers are actually pretty similar in terms of era.

[Seth]

Yeah.

[Sean]

You know, one loss record. Burroughs is like four and eight. I don't know what he might actual one loss record. Like, Burroughs answered the bell every time Imai missed a month because he was getting his head right.

[Seth]

Shoulder fatigue, Sean.

So yeah, yeah, no arm fatigue. Yeah, whatever. Yeah. So I wonder which one of those two because the ceiling with Imai, we've seen like Burrows. You know, Burrows had a few good starts. I'm not going to say he's been trash every time out. But Burrows is at least a guy that, when he goes out there like, all right, I know it's, it may not look great, but I'm going to get five innings out of the guy. Imai is a guy who goes out there and Seth, there's a chance he throws your whole staff off kilter for the next four days. When you have a starter that routinely and it's happened, by my count, it's happened at least four times this year where he hasn't made it out of the second inning. Some of them. He hasn't made it out of the first inning.

[Seth]

He hasn't. Okay, so these are the times you

[Sean]

got the game log in front of you.

[Seth]

The times when there's either a one or a zero in front of his. Okay. He's in his third game this year against Seattle. That was when he went for a third of an inning. And then it was three games ago against the Royals that he went for 2/3 of an inning.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

And then this is the third time that he's gone. He went one and a third inning.

[Sean]

Okay, so those are, those are the

[Seth]

three times absolute disastrous disasters. And the first, you know what you're thinking of his first ever. He won 2⅔ the relative marathon for that.

[Sean]

That's. That's okay.

[Seth]

Yeah.

[Sean]

I think I was at that Game.

First game against the Angels, I was at that game.

[Sean]

Yep. So, yeah, that. That's. That's the pro. The problem. I mean, obviously, it's a problem that you're losing these games. Except that Royals game, they actually won because he came. He got knocked out in the first inning of a game where the team got him nine runs in the first inning. But. But it. But even in a game that you win, the point I'm about to make is valid in that game, which is you now affect the next two or three games because certain relievers aren't going to be available. You know, certain relievers are going to empty the tank just to finish that game that you're in that he got shelled in. It's almost like you didn't have a start. It's almost like it was a bullpen game with a bad opener, you know?

[Seth]

Yeah, yeah. No, yeah, exactly. He couldn't even come out and give you a good opener. Right. Maybe if they had told them, hey, you're only. We're only expecting you to go one inning, then he could really. I don't know, man.

[Sean]

Someone. Someone. Just so real quick, Seth, someone just said this, and this is actually a really good point. The solution in a game, too, right now.

[Seth]

Yeah.

[Sean]

Might be to start blue ball for two innings and just go a bullpen game just to, you know, try to end the series. You know, that's. I'm not even joking.

[Seth]

That's a really good game for game two.

[Sean]

This has been the best bullpen in baseball for the last month and a half.

I just. I don't. We might have to play the Espada later, because I know how much you love Espada's glowing reviews.

[Sean]

I heard it. I must have seen it on the Internet.

But Espada, after the game said, you know, he's been good the last few games. I'm like, wait a second. Last few games usually means three. Three, a few. Usually three or four.

[Seth]

It was three games ago. That was the two thirds of an inning where he allowed five runs. And then even, like the next game after that, he had that. We were. It was a quality start. Six innings pitched with three runs allowed.

[Sean]

That was the one where he got shelled early and then was really good late.

[Seth]

But it was. But I always look at even the quality start that's a little bit misleading because that. That still does work out to an above four era, you know, on a. If you go nine innings, I've Always thought that, too. Yeah. Like, it feels like where you're going to draw the line. Six innings.

[Sean]

I don't know. So.

No, it hasn't been really all that impressive for the last few starts. It was in. He was impressive in his last start.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

And it was only three starts ago that he went two thirds of an inning.

Well, it was good enough for me to say I'd start the guy in Game 2 of a playoff series. And now I look like a dunce.

I was about to say his. Yordon. I can't remember a notable time where he got injured at the plate, but his hand issues are about swinging the bat.

Related issues. His big issue was the plate. Was with the plate. Was stepping on it last night.

I think. Well, I mean there's like different like you know, mountains and everything, which always looks worse in pictures than it is. You know, in real life. You always feel like you see somebody standing on a big rock next to a precipice. Oh my God. But in real life, it doesn't feel like that.

The biggest thing about David Montgomery that comes through in all his interviews is, man, like, he's old school in a lot of ways when it comes to supporting his teammates, like, not having a big ego, being selfless. It's really cool to just to hear skill position players harping on being selfless because that so many things about the offense in the last couple of years, we know, just they haven't. They haven't kept pace with the defense and not just with performance on the field, but in the way they operate. Montgomery, by virtue of just his reputation and the way he plays and practices, by the things he's saying since he's gotten here. But then also, every time I either tweet or do a live stream about David Montgomery, I'm amazed by how many Lions fans are in my mentions.

Talking about how much they love David Montgomery, what a solid citizen he is. He's a literal Eagle Scout, I believe. Like, he's really. Yes, yes. At least. He was the Finals MVP two years ago and, and is still in his prime. He's not even 30 yet. Jaylen Brown. Paul George. Paul George, for what he gets paid, is not a good basketball player at this point. And that's the big thing, too. Like this. I remember a time when the Sixers and the Celtics viciously hated each other back in the, in the 80s and 90s, and I'm guessing they still do. I just don't follow either of them closely enough that they're making that trade inside the division there too. And sending j. I mean, Jalen, Brad's a good team. [Seth]

And they started off when Greg was. They're going through the AFC south preview and Ross just flat out kind of asked the open, open question like, hey, Texans, go. And Cassell. Cassell had this to say as he's reflecting on C.J. stroud during this off season.

[Sean]

C.J. stroud, the last couple of years has been up and down. Now, keep in mind, his first year in the league, he was in a Kyle Shanahan type offense with Bobby Slo. Now, in that offense, the quarterback has nothing to do with calling protections. And then they got off to a slow start his second year and they fired Slowik and they made a fairly significant change in approach, which has now continued. And they went more with a New England Patriot style of offense. And in the New England style of offense, the quarterback is responsible for setting protections. That's a major, major adjustment for a quarterback. It adds to the mental part of playing the position. And I've met CJ Stroud, he's a very intelligent young man. But when you have to make that change and it's a process and he'll get better and better at it, but I think it slowed down just his whole processing and I think there were times where I thought he was indecisive playing the position and therefore was not as anticipatory as we saw him in his rookie season. Okay, so that was age. Just so I'm keeping track of because he talked about slowed down that was a bad version of slow down.

[Seth]

Bad version of slowed down. Yeah. Sometimes he says sped up and slowed down.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

Almost synonymously.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

Feels like. But I think that one thing is that just like everything that he said, you know, we've heard before, we've talked about before. It's always nice to hear somebody else say it. But the big thing about it is that it's also. It's one of those things where it's an explanation, but that's also not a guarantee that it will happen and that he will adapt. Adapt to the offense. I think the part there where he talked about, you know, that, you know, he's met C.J. stroud. He's a very intelligent young man. You know, that's reflected by what a lot of other people have said who have sat down and watched film with, with C.J. stroud. But there's knowing it on the whiteboard and then doing it in person, and just a lot of it just flat out takes reps. And that's the part where, you know, if you're, if you're on the side of, like, okay, well, C.J. just needed some time in the system, then, yeah, you should, should, you should stay on with that line of thinking. There's reasons for you to think that it should be better this year. But I also do understand that people will say, look, yeah, look, lots of quarterbacks have tried this and they've continued to struggle with it as they get into their second or third year of the system. It's not a slam dunk guarantee that just because you've got time in the system, you're going to get good at it.

[Sean]

How, how much did it exacerbate things, do you think that in combination last year with CJ Being in the system for the first time, and it's not easy, as Greg Cosell just outlined, that you also had a guy who was an offensive coordinator for the first time teaching this system.

[Seth]

Right. Well, you know, and that's. And that was actually one of my live stream listeners corrected me on this yesterday, and I'm glad he did it was because, you know, Drake May's done a really good job with Josh McDaniels up in New England. But one thing that Josh McDaniels did also with Drake May is he's, he. And he did this with Mac Jones. You know, he knows exactly what they can and cannot handle and incorporate elements of the things they did in college. And that's, you know, that's Josh McDaniels having a whole bunch of experience Working with various quarterbacks through the years. You can say whatever you want about Josh McDaniels. As a head coach, he's been a disaster. But as an offensive coordinator, as a guy who works with quarterbacks, it's not just Tom Brady that he's worked with and done a good job. And I think that's. Yeah, like, would. Would it have looked better with Josh McDaniels as the offense offensive coordinator last year? I'd have a hard time arguing that it, that it wouldn't just by. He's done it time and time and time again. He's had a lot of experience doing it. So with Kaylee, I think it was. That was part of the learning curve.

[Sean]

Yep. And then what's getting brought up quite a bit this off season with C.J. stroud is the lack of a running game that he's not just last year. That's been a theme for the entire

[Seth]

time that CJ Stroud, including when Joe Mixon was here, it just wasn't the, it wasn't consistent. You know, it came in fits and starts. But like the overall success rate of their run game was really bad. And it's just, it's hard for a quarterback to work with that.

[Sean]

Yep. Here's Greg Cosell on that very topic. They could not run the ball. Now. It's always easy to say, well, he. Stroud's not been great because the run game's bad. And obviously there is a correlation. I'm not going to sit here and say there's no correlation. But they brought in David Montgomery and they revamped their entire offensive line. They're going to have three or four new starters.

[Seth]

Okay.

[Sean]

They brought in Braden Smith to play right tackle. Wyatt Teller, who for a couple of years there in Cleveland was as good a left guard as there was in the league, particularly in the gap scheme run game as a puller. Keelan Rutledge, who played guard, the rookie out of Georgia Tech, he'll probably play center. So they're going to have a brand new offensive line and ideally at least a serviceable run game. And David Montgomery is one of those backs. He's a. You know, it's so funny. People always talk about backs being special and all that, but you know what? You don't have to have a special back to have a consistent, sustaining run game.

[Seth]

Yeah, I didn't think that part of it, too. Is that something you just hear people say over and over again? You know, nobody's saying that the Texans have to be a top five offense or have A top five rushing attack. When you have a defense like you do, they just need to be more consistent. They gotta be able to convert in the red zone. And a lot of that just simply comes down to can you, can you run for a half yard when you need a half yard?

[Sean]

Yes.

[Seth]

Last year there was a whole lot of. They could run for a quarter yard when they needed a half yard, they could run for one yard when they needed two yards. And like that, that one. It's just that one big speed bump that kept them from being, I think, a genuinely like impressive offense or at least in the top third of offense. It's just that they just couldn't run the ball. I guess the flip side of it could be, man, they focus so heavily on running the football with the offensive line and the tight end that they drafted and bringing David Montgomery in that not all those guys are great pass protectors. So they're kind of hoping that the presence of the run game gives them enough. It gives them enough to threaten the defense with that they can handle the pass protection side of the. It just by getting into second and five. Yeah, it's, you know, like if you're in second 10, third and 10 consistently, you can have the best offensive line in the league. They're only going to be able to do so much.

[Sean]

Yes. The key for them will be having the full playbook available on second and third down and then keeping the defense off balance. You know, that's you. You improve your pass protection by. Through the. The mystery of the defense not knowing or at least limiting what's available to. All right, so that's Greg Cosell on the Texans. Okay, let's continue our journey.

[Seth]

Seth. So he goes, this is interesting. We'll do these. I had to, I had to be really careful when I labeled this, this audio because what he said about Shane Steichen working with Daniel, there's one that

[Sean]

I can't wait for.

[Seth]

I'm sounded very similar to what he said about Liam Cohen working with Trevor Lawrence. But this is, this is on Shane Steichen and how good he is at getting the first read open.

[Sean]

Every pass play, you know, concept is put in during a game with the idea that we want to be able to throw it to the primary. You know, obviously it doesn't always work out like that, but sometimes when you see some, you know, some coaches and some teams, it just looks like that's the way it plays out. And you know, again, that's so critical for a quarterback because the comfort level just increases because he Hits his back foot and he delivers the football.

[Seth]

So that's what it was with Daniel Jones and they made it. You know, he was able to really just, you know, just let it fly in the first half of the last season. But then usually what happens with quarterbacks who are primary read guys is that the league catches up to them. The best example of it that we've seen is Tua Tunga Violoa when he was playing the Texans. And he's playing a defense that just knows that Tua only Tua wants to get rid of the ball fast and he wants to get rid of the ball to his primary read. And if you've got a good feel and beat on where that's going to be, you just pounce on him. And over time, it looks really good for the first half of a season, you do it. Or in the case of the Jaguars, when it clicks for the quarterback in the second half of the season. Remember what he just said about Shane Syken working with Daniel Jones? This is Cassell talking about Liam Cohen working with Trevor Lawrence.

[Sean]

Liam Cohen got Trevor Lawrence. He became, you know, a primary REIT operator a year ago and looked more comfortable than he ever has. Particularly, you know, as he got later in the season when he got more and more comfortable within the offense. It's just a great example of that.

[Seth]

Yeah. So you know what Greg forgot when Doug Peterson in the second half of his season.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

Got Trevor Lawrence really comfortable with his offense and it looked like, wow, Trevor Lawrence is finally delivering on all of those lofty things people said about him coming out of college.

[Sean]

This feels very similar. It feels very similar to that.

[Seth]

The difference, though, with the Jaguars this year compared to previous years is they've decided that, look, they won the AFC South.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

Why? Why tinker with a good thing?

[Sean]

Yeah. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

[Seth]

All 11, all 22 of their starters on the depth chart right now are returning starters.

[Sean]

Okay.

[Seth]

They, you know, they let go of Travis Hn because apparently they just love Tutin all that much and. And they let go of Devin Lloyd on the defensive side of the ball. But they're just going to run it back. They're not even running it back. They're saying running it back minus a couple of guys and our draft class. So Greg Cassell is never one to throw shade on people. Tell me if this is a little bit of a passive aggressive throwing of shade. This is. When asked about that strategy of just running it back.

[Sean]

Okay, look, I'm not one of those people.

[Seth]

And you know me well enough to

[Sean]

know I don't rip teams like they. They know more about their players than you, and I do do. So, you know, at this time of year, I'm going to assume that they know, and I'm. They're going to get the benefit of the doubt.

[Seth]

Yeah. So it's getting the benefit of the doubt until he doesn't.

[Sean]

By saying that I don't normally rip guys.

[Seth]

Yeah, you'd like to rip them.

[Sean]

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like you. Basically, what you're doing. Greg Cosell. It's a brilliant move because he still maintains his reputation of being a nice guy.

Yeah.

[Sean]

But by. By even acknowledging that. That. That the. The potential ripping of somebody for someone like that is like ripping them.

[Seth]

Right, Right.

[Sean]

Yeah.

We all love. We all love, you know, seeing somebody that thinks they're smarter than everybody else get their comeuppance. The problem is that sometimes. Sometimes they don't get their comeuppance. Sometimes they genuinely were smarter than everybody else. So you got to be careful about saying, oh, yeah, this guy thinks he's gonna reinvent the wheel, because every now and then, they actually do reinvent the wheel.

[Sean]

What are the odds that Gladstone is the smartest guy in the room?

[Seth]

3%.

[Sean]

3%. Okay. So you think this thing is gonna fail. Yeah, I'm with you on that. I just. To me, it's the whole drafting thing. Like, the whole just drafting and not that the consensus big boards are some sort of gospel or anything like that. Like, they were carved into tablets, and Moses walked down from the mountain with the big boards, the consensus big boards. But when all of your draft picks are off kilter from what everybody thinks about all of them, like, all of them, and they drafted, like, 10 or 11 guys.

[Seth]

And when this is the biggest thing is, like, where the arrogance shows up is the way that Gladstone, after the draft, said, it's pretty much like every single guy that we wanted to get, we got.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

I'm like, yeah, okay. Because nobody else thought that they were worth drafting where you drafted them. You think you're smarter than everybody else. Yeah.

[Sean]

And the whole thing where he was relishing the moment of shit shocking the world, you know, drafting the tight end out of A and M there in the second round. I don't know. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know. So we'll. Good for you, Cosell. All right. What's he saying about the Titans?

[Seth]

Titans. This is where Texans fans need to take note. Because if there's one thing we know, it's that the Texans have struggled in recent years with big, strong, physical defensive linemen like the Seahawks have and like the Patriots have. This is, this is what he has to say about the Titans defensive line.

[Sean]

Their defensive line, it is freaking big. And they can go 7, 8 deep with quality players. And that's the way Robert Sala wants to play.

[Seth]

Yeah. And again, that's. That's the truth. That's how it's been with Tennessee. Even when Tennessee's defense hasn't been good, when they had. When Tavandre Sweat was still there and Jeffrey Simmons was healthy, when those guys were both healthy and on the field at the same time, they just devastated the Texans. Even in games where the Texans won, they were just manhandled up front. And even though Tavandre Sweat's not there, it's a different front. They do have like, they've got those seven or eight guys that they can rotate through. So it's going to be, it's going to be one of the big tests early in the season for the Texans offensive line, their revamped offensive line. And likewise the Bengals are going to be a big test early in the season because the Bengals brought in Poirier Maffe and Dexter Lawrence. Multiple, multiple guys on their defense. Defensive line.

[Sean]

Yeah. They Texans struggled offensively against the Titans last year before even got there.

[Seth]

Right. And even when they weren't a good defense, that was it. I remember I used to like Babe. When I would do previews for those games, people would say, seth, what the hell are you talking about? The Titans are the, you know, 28th right. Ranked run defense or whatever. I'm just, just, I watch the, just watch this upcoming game and tell me how well they handle those defensive tackles.

[Sean]

No, no, no. Styles make fights sometimes, man.

[Seth]

That was the thing. The one thing I've noticed is I started just kind of just, you know, doing my way too early previews and study, trying to study up on each of the Texans opponents is that they do. They face a slew of teams that had horrendous defenses last year who also spent very aggressively on trying to fix those defenses.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

And just by epa, I think the Titans, the Bengals and the Cowboys were all in bottom five. And all of those teams have at least five new starters. Some of them say, I think the Cowboys have six new starters on defense

[Sean]

and they play all of those teams in the first five weeks of the season.

[Seth]

Yeah.

[Sean]

Bengals in week two, Cowboys in week four. Titans on the road in week five.

[Seth]

And, and also, I mean, and I'm not saying that to say like, oh, they're going to be awesome defenses because they spent heavily. No, it's. It's going to be fun to watch to see which ones actually work out and which don't. Which are improved. The Giants, I would add to that. They weren't as bad defensive, but they have six new starters on their defense.

[Sean]

Okay, so there's our trip through the, through the AFC South. How you feeling right now about the division here on July 2nd?

[Seth]

I feel pretty good. I mean, like just. It all goes back to everything we've talked about on the offense all off season. But I just, I don't, I don't feel, I feel like the Colts, I mean, I think they're set up for a quote unquote fall.

[Sean]

I think they're going to finish in last place.

[Seth]

Right. Because it's not like they finished with an awesome. They lost their quarterback midway through the season. But I don't think it's going to be anything like what it looked like in the first half of last season.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

But I think the Jaguars will still be a good team. I just don't. I, I think it's going to be tough for them to match their record from last year.

[Sean]

Yeah. I just think that. And the Texans, to your point with the Jags, like, okay, what did you do this off season to. To get better? Like, I think the Texans made a ton of moves to get better. Like, they made a move to improve safety. They made moves to improve the future. Few. The few glitches they had on defense, on offense, as Cosell pointed out, they, they essentially, they tore the offensive line down to the studs. It's Ariante Ursary is the only one that's left that's kind of guaranteed a spot right now. Other than that, the other four spots are probably.

[Seth]

There's not.

[Sean]

And Ed Ingram. Yep, you're right. No, no. So two of them. You're. You're absolutely right. But, but yeah, so that's still 60% of the offensive line. Because that's. I, I think they're heart of hearts. I don't think they want Jake Andrews to be the starting center. I think they want Keelan Rutledge.

[Seth]

Unless. Well, you know what I mean? I don't know. I would frame it differently in that. I think that if Jake Andrews proves that like, wow, look at. He took a great leap forward. They're cool with him starting. If he beats out Keelan Rutledge. Yeah, you know they're not going to turn their nose down at it, but they also hope that Keelan Rutledge is going to be a formidable force. Yeah, I think that the biggest difference between this year and the last couple years years is that you have, I think you've got bona fide starters competing for those spots. They're competing with other bonafide starters and, and, or a first round draft pick. And it's just, it's a, it's a more legitimately competitive situation where sometimes in the past couple years it's either been all right, a guy who sucked his whole career is written in pen as the starter on the depth chart or it's a competition between two guys that would be backups on a lot of, a lot of other teams teams to be the starter. It just doesn't, it doesn't feel that way.

[Sean]

This, it's definitely a deeper room. Like, it's like I actually feel okay about the backups right now if the depth chart played out the way that we think it's going to. And that's not been the case the last few years. Text messages 713-57246 and we're getting a lot of texts on the Astros and that Jalen Brown trade. We'll just as long as we're on football here, a couple football texts. I think the Jags are more likely to win nine or 10 games than winning 13 again. Yeah, I'm with you. They're not winning 13 games again. They just, they, they, they got worse in my opinion this offseason. I don't think they got better and

I don't think that. I think they're reading way too much into that second half surge on offense and that they kind of forgot that hey, we couldn't actually run the ball even though they were passing the ball really well and that all right, teams are going to look at you and they figured out exactly what you can and cannot do with Trevor Lawrence. And I don't think people say still, I think people still look at Trevor Lawrence as a first read quarterback. Like, like other defenders have said about Trevor Lawrence in the past.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

And that it's, this will be a, this will be a real big test for Liam Cohen this year.

[Sean]

Sign Najee Harris now because Montgomery has not carried a, quote, full time load and Marks should stay third down and change of pace. He won't cost he being Najee Harris won't cost more than 2 to 3 million. I am with this texter in that if something were to happen to David Montgomery, we're right back to where we were the second half of last season.

We are. I mean Najee Harris is coming off an Achilles tendon tear. So. Right. Which was early last year or I don't remember.

But I do think a veteran running back in that room.

As of March, he's been doing straight line sprinting on a treadmill.

Yeah. Whoever you bring in. Like honestly though. But I would prefer that if they bring in a running back back and not be an experiment like Cam Akers coming off of his second torn Achilles. Nick Chubb coming still, still recovering from his injury from a couple years ago. But then also just an older running back that I'd like to have somebody a little bit more juice and then maybe it ends up being a trade for a younger player instead of, instead of an aging guy with one Achilles tendon.

Yep. Last one here is from Ocho. Sean, I feel good about the Texans now, but I feel better if I knew CJ Stroud could be one of the few quarterbacks to overcome shell shock. Shell shock. Like it's a disease.

One of the few quarterbacks that overcome shell shock. The boy. I, you know, there's various quarterbacks that have thrown multiple interceptions and bad playoff losses. You know, Tom Brady. I think Tom Brady's career high is four. Or maybe he only had three. He had three and one.

I remember in a game they won. Peyton Manning is probably the best examp guy that, I mean, for the first half of his career he was viewed as a guy who was awesome in the regular season and sucked in the playoffs.

Yeah, he, yeah. Early Peyton Manning was worse than what the body of work CJ's put out there.

He threw four interceptions in a game, in a playoff loss in the AFC championship game in New England one year.

I guess the spot has got a different, different definition of few than maybe most people do. And that's, that's kind of on brand for a spot, I think. A spot. A spot, it definitely skews way more to the side of being nice, being not hard on the guys, at least not publicly in the media. Okay, so Will Clark, the question came up on his podcast, like, hey, you know, do you think you could manage or do you want to manage? And Will Clark lays out why he couldn't be a manager. And I got thinking. I'm like, huh, do the Astros maybe need some of this? Like, what Will Clark's bringing to the table? I hate to say it, but I said it in my jersey retirement speech. You were right there. It's a participation trophy game now, you know. So you think you're. We're making it too easy for the players. Oh, hell yeah. You're making it too easy for sure. And that's why people have asked me why I don't get into coaching, why I don't get into managing and all that. The opposing manager typically did their media, like, from the little office they had right there sitting at his desk. Ned Yost was an a hole. He was just. He was just a flat out jerk.

Like when I saw yesterday that Warren Sapp was being investigated over an alleged battery at a senior home in Florida.

That I was rooting for. When I saw that no charges were brought, I was like, ah, damn. I really wanted him to be charged. Warren Sapp's a big jerk that. You know, I've told that story before at Radio Road. Just like when. What a. What a jerk he was.

There's a lot of people that are kind of. There's a lot of people that try to, like, they've been. They're jerks in any generation. But those are the people that love to act like, oh, it's only modern society that can't handle me. Like, they would have been the. He would have been the most popular dude in town back in the day, like in the 1950s or something. Ah. Now I think he's just kind of a jerk. Yeah, they had jerks back then, too.

[Sean]

Yep. We. A couple texts are saying, hey, if Jalen Brown went to the Sixers for such an underwhelming package, and if you missed it, Jalen Brown last night sent to the Philadelphia 76ers from the Celtics. Celtics at Paul George, who's aging and not nearly the player he used to be, and then a bunch of draft picks, couple first couple seconds in future seasons. And so we have some people asking, like, hey, could the Rockets have done that to you? Like if he went for such an underwhelming package. Like if the Rocket. And there's a couple people, Seth, wanting to say, well, why. Why didn't. Why didn't we do Kevin Durant and a couple first round picks for Jake.

[Seth]

Right. Yeah. Because it does seem. Well, this seems like one of those classic scenarios, kind of like with the James Harden trade, where it might have just been. Yeah. A matter of who was. Who was around and available and listening because the Celtics just had to do something for whatever reason. Brian Winhorst said it was. It's the kind of deal that you only do if you're under duress. So I don't know what that duress necessarily is or what, like, what the speculation is on all of that, but. Yeah, I know. Like, what's. What are the. What are the barriers to the Rockets having made that?

[Sean]

Well, I think maybe the Rockets. I mean, all the talk with the Rockets and Jaylen Brown have been that just. They're just not in on it.

[Seth]

They weren't interested. Maybe they thought it was going to be a much higher price.

[Sean]

Maybe. Maybe. I mean, he may coach Jalen Brown, so he's got that intel on what makes Jaylen Brown tick. So it might. Yeah, it could have been any number of things. This is where it's going to get maybe awkward in Philadelphia. This was Jalen Brown, if you remember the day after the Sixers knocked the Celtics out of the playoffs this year. Jaylen Brown, at his press conference after the elimination yesterday game and then the next day on his Twitch stream, was adamant that Joel Embiid is one of the worst floppers in the NBA. I mean, this is my personal opinion on basketball. Some of y' all might disagree, you

That might be one of my biggest disconnects between the current generation and our generation. Is that the. It seems like not everybody, but by and large, the younger generation has kind of done a 180 on the desire to get a driver's license.

[Seth]

Yeah.

That was a huge deal. Like, we were counting down the days to get it.

[Seth]

Part of it is that the. The part of it, though, too, is that this is a generation that's accustomed to their parents actually wanting them around. Where in our generation, more times than not, I think it was mostly our parents would just wish we'd get the hell away from them. Yeah, it was. You weren't allowed back in the house until. Until dinner time. Like, you were just like, please, please get away from me, you child.

[Sean]

That's true.

[Seth]

And we took our cues from that.

[Sean]

By the time we were 16, we knew what the deal was was parents these days are all about like, oh, let me spend as much precious time with you as possible until you have to leave the nest, etc. Okay. Which is probably the better way to live. Don't get me wrong.

There's definitely more love involved in something like that, if you're a believer. Yeah.

[Seth]

Yeah. I'm not knocking it.

[Sean]

I'm not going all Will Clark on you.

I'm not acting like our parents. Acting like it was more important to get a martini than to look at your report card was actually a good way to rear your children. Children, yeah. Yep.

Yep. The. The. The head of the head, Nick Adams, who is. He's. He's part of Trump's cabinet. He's the. He's. He's. He's. I think he's in charge of some tour, you know, some aspect of tourism with the country here. He's the one that invited Freddie, the German superfan, to the White House.

And so there's a big question after Freddie deleted his Twitter account this week, is he still invited. Nick Adams put out a statement yesterday and it's finally happened where, like, the Freddie thing has now been totally politicized.

[Seth]

Yeah.

I arranged a visit to a really pretty statement on Twitter. I arranged a visit to the White House for Freddie, the viral World cup tourists from Germany to cap off what's been an epic FIFA World cup visit to the United States. Despite the hateful and angry radical left, vicious attempts to dox Freddie.

[Seth]

Oh, dear.

[Sean]

Launch personal attacks and intimidate him into submission, ultimately forcing him to delete his social media accounts to protect his peace and safety. The West Wing visit will still take place. I never got the sense that the. The. For lack of a better word, bullying of Freddie or negativity towards Freddie was ever motivated by politics. I always got this impression it was motivated just by people that Were. Were a jealous. Like me, but I never bullied Freddie. I never interacted with Freddie. I was just admittedly jealous of all the things he got to do. The people that interacted with him. I thought it was more people that were just skeptical that he was more like this commercial mechanism.

[Seth]

Yeah.

[Sean]

Disguised as a super fan than anything political.

[Seth]

I don't know. I just. Yeah. So maybe he goes into visits. Yeah.

[Sean]

Okay.

[Seth]

I wonder if he's like. But he hasn't had his face. If he goes to a visit at the White House, he's going to have his picture taken and it'll be publicized all over the place. I think.

[Sean]

I. My guess is that would be a condition of him going there.

[Seth]

Right. Right. Well. Or that. I mean, just don't worry. The politician says he's not going to take your picture. Like, you got to be careful about all of that. I don't. I'm. I would put odds on. I think he bails out of this. But visit just. Just for no other reason than he just doesn't want any publicity at all at this point.

[Sean]

My guess is he said his flight is set for July 23rd. If I had to guess, I. That that was the other reply he was getting yesterday or two days ago. Whenever he said, I'm, I'm here till the 23rd. The day Germany lost, people were like, you know, you can move your flight. Don't act like you're stuck here for the next three years.

[Seth]

Right. But he wanted. Nobody wanted. He wanted to keep traveling around and maybe presumably go to some World cup matches or something.

[Sean]

Yeah, yeah.

[Seth]

Yeah.

All right, Pain and Pender Gast with you on a on a Thursday. Appreciate everybody getting up with us, especially if you're off for this week and offer next week or whatever. We always appreciate you guys tuning in either on the radio or the free Odyssey app. We thank you for that. So Benjamin Solak, who we played some audio from on the show earlier this week. He was a guest on Gary at Houston Stress Stressing's YouTube stream a few days ago. He's a big fan of the Texans. He in just he likes the team. He thinks they're going to be. He thinks they're going to be good this year. He did his 10 predictions Seth for the upcoming season, trades, division winners, things like that. And he predicted, yeah, the ultimate Texans prediction. He thinks that the Texans are going to represent the AFC in the super bowl this year. Texans will win the afc. He has a disclaimer he said I deserve or I reserve the right to change this prediction before week one. As we get more news about Bo Nick's ankle and his health because he really likes the Broncos overall roster. But obviously Bo Nix is dealing with some fallout from his injury he suffered in the playoffs last year. But we know that Benjamin Solak, still a CJ Stroud believer.

[Seth]

It sounds like he believes in the Broncos more than the Texas. He just wants to be double sure about Bo Nix's health before the end of the season. Yep, that's neither here nor there. Yeah, he's I think he's one of the guys that I saw somebody on Twitter yesterday say that man like Texans are in two camp on the national media there's people that are swayed completely by the playoffs and they think he's trash. And then there's another set of national media people who just feel like anybody who doubts CJ Stroud is an idiot and doesn't know ball, when in reality, I think there's, there's room in the middle ground somewhere. But I think Solak's one of those people who thinks that the people who doubt CJ Just don't know ball.

[Sean]

That's what, that's what, in my opinion, makes CJ One of, if not the most intriguing players in training camp this year around the league is his contract situation and just the divergent opinions out there about him. It's, it's, it is there. There. It's, there is very, there are very few people hanging out in the middle ground with him.

[Seth]

Well, it is interesting, though, because, like, people rightfully point out that the run game's been atrocious. They don't even really talk about the pass blocking as much as they should. But it's like the pass blocking wasn't great last year either. But the run, the lack of a run game is what really is just holding the entire offense back. So I think they finally, because I've been kind of annoyed that a lot of the people that really liked CJ Stroud after his rookie year, like the people that, the real, like the guys that watch film of all 22 teams and everything, they've really been holding it in reserve with CJ Stroud the last couple years. Years almost to where they're just, they're tabling their opinion until they see everything that they want and need to see. And I think this year, if the run game is there for the Texans, that's the, that's kind of the corner everybody's painted themselves into. It's that, all right, he's had rookie offensive coordinators, he's had bad offensive lines, he's had this. He's had that. If they actually have a good rushing attack and the offensive line performs okay, that they're either going to be proven correct or incorrect on just what the upside is for CJ Stroud. So this year. This year, and I think the Texans might be looking at it that way, too, they'd prefer to wait and pay CJ Stroud, possibly until after they see exactly what he looks like with better surroundings.

[Sean]

Yep. Okay. So. So that's. I was, like, seeing positive predictions from people who follow the game closely about, about our team. That's always nice to see. And then I read the rest of the article. And I'm like, okay, okay. I would like for the person making the prediction about the Texans, I would like for most of their other predictions to make sense to me. So there's five in this article where I was like, I don't know, man. And I'm. I'm guessing part of this is you're making bold predictions to get eyeballs on it and there's that aspect of it. So there's a few of these here. Seth, I want to run by you and do these predictions make you feel better or worse about the Texans prediction that Solak has the Chiefs will miss the playoffs against. Are you simpatico with Ben Solak on the Chiefs missing the playoffs in the upcoming season?

[Seth]

I think that like I think we've seen in the last couple years, kind of the, the steady drain and the effect of just trying to maintain all of these players on our roster and them doing a really impressive job of getting by without, you know, losing, losing, you know, their best defensive backs at various times times, Rasheed Rice going to jail, all of those various things. And yet they haven't been a genuinely impressive offense for a couple years.

[Sean]

No.

[Seth]

And I just don't know how much just Kenneth Walker iii, who I like. I. I really like Kenneth Walker iii and I would have loved to having him as somebody to, you know, like, try to build an actual credible rushing attack and everything. But he's going to a team that still has some of the same concerns with the receiving core and their offensive, not their offensive line, as long as they're healthy, I guess. But I don't think that, that it's. With a coach that's just in his entire career, has never really cared about using the run game all that much. Even when they're capable of running the ball, he goes away from it. So no, I think missing the. If I had to flip a coin right now, I would. I think I would have a weighted coin that would say no playoffs.

[Sean]

No playoffs. You agree with him on that? Yeah. Yeah. I don't think it's the craziest prediction in the world. World. I, you know, the world I live and I live in the world with the odds boards and things like that. And, and that's certainly. That's driven a lot by public perception. And as long as you got Andy Reid and Mahomes that will always be perceived to be a team that can compete for a championship, your points are the same points Solak makes about the roster, which is. No, the roster is just deteriorating over time. It's the guys that are the most important guys are old on that team.

[Seth]

Well, and you get us. I mean, yeah, you lose Trent McDuffie and it's like they've done a good job of losing some of their better players, but then they brought back what's his name there from the Titans. Yeah, the Jerryus Snead who's just been a shell of himself. Maybe, maybe being back with Spagnolo is just the ticket for him. But it just. If you're. If you're taking the logo out of. Just looks like any other team that was really, really good for a while and then they have a painful period where things just kind of. You lose enough by attrition over time that at some point you're. You're back on the rebuild process.

[Sean]

Fanduel or. Yeah. Fanduel's odds board for Super bowl winner in 2026. Rams far and away number one, five and a half to one. Then the Bills at 10 to one. The Ravens at 11 to one one. The Seahawks, the defending champs, are 12 to one. The Chargers are fifth on the board at 16 to one. And then the Chiefs. So the Chiefs in the eyes of the betting community at least. Still, I don't know how much action they're getting, but they're fairly high up the odds board. Okay, Solac prediction. Vikings will win the NFC North.

[Seth]

What's he basing that on?

[Sean]

Let's see here. What is he basing that on? I had looked at what he was basing the next two Vikings will win the AFC North North. He's got a lot of words in here. He says that the Vikings, they were the clear. The sportsbooks have them in last place right now. They're coming off a JJ McCarthy year in lots of various quarterback stuff. They signed Kyler Murray says Kyler Murray should elevate them back to above average quarterback play so they will be better at quarterback the other side of the ball. The Vikings are the only defense that he trusts in that division. Yeah, he trusts the Vikings defense more than the Lions defense. Defense, the Bears defense and the packers defense.

[Seth]

I can't at this point. I just can't say that I'm a

[Sean]

no on this one.

[Seth]

At this point I can. I'm intrigued by Kyler Murray. But it's not like this is the first time Kyler Murray's been in Shanahan type system. They tried that with him in Arizona. So maybe, maybe Kevin o' Connell will be just that much better at implementing it. And you can see where, you can see where the potential is is with him running that system. But it's just he's still. He's still very much in a like you have to prove it to me mode. But Kevin o' Connell is also the guy who turned Sam Darnold's career around. That's they're intriguing. It's very, very intriguing. But I it's not enough for me to say oh yeah, they're going to win that division.

[Sean]

Yep. This is one that I hope happens again. These are Benjamin Solak's big predictions. He predicts the Texans are going to win the AFC this year. Year. This is the one I'm really other than that one. The one I'm really hoping for. He predicts Jonathan Taylor will get traded to the Bears before the trade deadline.

[Seth]

Oh, that would be awesome because the

[Sean]

Colts are going to be underwhelming this year.

[Seth]

They'll be underwhelming.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

And they'll do. Oh boy. How much how much does he say he thinks they'll get for Jonathan Taylor?

[Sean]

I don't get question he the part where he gets to the actual trade of Jonathan Taylor. Taylor talks about he compares them to the other backs, you know that that might be available.

[Seth]

Yeah.

[Sean]

He says the Colts. If the Colts come out of the gate slow and consider a change at mid season, Taylor will surely draw trade interest. His start to 2025 prove that he still has best running back in the league. Potential playoff. The the trades I've seen Seth, I just don't want to read an entire paragraph on the air. The. The trades I've seen involving Jonathan Taylor typically are like a third round pick.

[Seth]

He probably didn't appropriate price in here anyway. Yeah, I just. I'd be really surprised if Jonathan Taylor got traded away. I think the Colts the Colts will probably be boy, I don't know. It's. They're going to have to put it all on Jonathan Taylor and Jonathan Taylor is not a guy that's been able to stay healthy consistently in his career. And depending on how much I mean like if Daniel Jones isn't all that mobile and he was only doing 7 on 7 during minicamp, he wasn't doing team stuff. It takes a big part of his threat away from him and then it just becomes okay, we got to load up against Jonathan Taylor and the Colts will be all too happy to run him 25, 30 times a game and it could get really, really ugly. I don't know if, I don't know if he makes it to the trade.

[Sean]

That's the thing I was thinking I'M like, yeah, or, or if you're trading for him at the trade deadline, you're going to get a guy who's got, you know, you know, 14 games worth of tread.

[Seth]

Yeah.

On his tire through only seven or eight games of the season. You know that they just used him and abused him. All right, pain and Pendergast with you. Good job. I didn't either. I had started to think like this is just what happens now. They just win series. But obviously not. They lose this series. They lose eight to three. Last night night, Tatsuya Imai did not do a good job of keeping them in the game early. They were he got shelled, didn't make it out of the second inning. And now here I am left to pick up the pieces of my Take the last few days where I said that Tatsuya Imai would basically be my number two choice behind Hunter Brown to start a playoff game. I know.

[Seth]

Has there been man, I mean there's, there's relievers that are prone to meltdown, but you still love them because you know, more times than not they'll or you still like them or abide by them because they're more times than not they'll come out and give you a good performance. But this is so much worse because a reliever is screwing you. You know, screwing somebody out of. You might have to use one extra reliever that night when he's not that good.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

I mean, this is a guy. This is a guy who now twice in the past four games, hasn't made it out of the second inning. You know, it just passed the second inning. It's really, really bad for a team that's really made a lot of improvement on in their bullpen over the last month. They've been great. But then you're sending AJ Blue ball out there to warm up in the first and get ready to come in and be a sacrificial lamb. I don't know what to do about it other than like, what do you. At what point do you draw the line with Imai where there's the positive performances are great, but we got to really start just adjusting our rotation to be sure that we've got a potential piggyback.

[Sean]

I think. Look this is, this isn't the 2019 Astros. We got a whole lot of solutions in the starting rotation. I, you, you throw the guy out there and then if, if he has one of the bad starts, you just have to adapt and go with it.

[Seth]

It's got to be. I know. Like, and that's where with, with Javier coming back, who's going to start off in the bull bullpen if Kai Way Tung comes back up after his Il stay, You know, Mike Burroughs, any of these other guys, you've just, you. When you don't have a six man, you've got to have a six man rotation. Even when you've got a five man rotation, I mean, you just got to approach it like it's going to be a piggyback start for Imai.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

An extreme piggyback.

[Sean]

Well, you got to have it in the back of your mind, at least.

[Seth]

That is ERA over that period would be 5.05. I would have said over. Like that's. That kills you. That kills your ERA when you have one or one and a third innings and you're giving up multiple runs.

Part of the problem is that the bullpen has done a better job, but they're also pitching massive amounts of innings because you don't have starters that can actually put eat any innings for you.

But Emi getting knocked out, getting knocked around yesterday, not great.

Yeah. Well, in hockey, not to go too deep, and in hockey, offsides is always related to the blue line right there, whereas in soccer, it's related to the opposing defense. Are you behind. Behind the defense? Is it only you and the goalie when the ball is played to you? When the ball is passed to you? So I. The. The funniest thing I've seen about that is, is when they look at the. The var. The replay and a player's offside by a fraction of a millimeter, and they. To the letter of the law, they call it like, it's. He is offsides by like the. Like his sleeve is past the defender and they like, it's to the millimeter meter. And the funniest tweets I've seen are people going, hey, so explain this offsides to me. Well, if this player is offsides by even a fraction of a millimeter, the goal is disallowed. Okay, well, explain to me how the clock works. Well, the referee just adds time and stops it whenever he wants to.

Grady Dick, two first round picks, a First round swap two second round picks for a guy who, you know, probably going to play 40 games in the regular season this year. Like, he doesn't, he doesn't play a full schedule. He just does.

Kawhi Leonard, but he's a conquering hero up there. The one year he was there, they won the NBA championship. They love him up there.

So Johnny Manziel told the Nightcap, Ochocinko and Shannon Sharpe he hopes that Cleveland goes oh and 16 every season. I sit here today and I go back and forth with the man, am I going to let Cleveland off the

hook and just, like, let it go,

or am I going to sit here with hate and animosity in my heart for the rest of my life? And I finally sit here today, I'm like, I think I'm going to be pissed that I'm going to hate them forever.

Every single season. Okay, so. So. So like a lot of people, or, you know, at least like this host we're about to play. It popped up on my timeline this week and similarly popped up on Tony Rizzo's timeline. He's the. He's one of the hosts on the ESPN radio affiliate up in Cleveland. And this is what he had to say on his show. Like, hey, Johnny, why all the hate for Cleveland? Johnny, I'm serious. I'm gonna be serious a moment. Go Cat. Here, bro. What did every. What did anyone do for you except root for you to win? And when it went south, okay, that's how it goes. As Baker.

But.

But what? Did someone hurt him? Was.

[Seth]

Is he a jilted lover? Is there some. So did I miss. Was there an incident where somebody attacked him? Did he. What.

So why. Why the hate. Why the hate for the team that drafted you? Why? I can't answer that for him. I don't know.

I mean, maybe he thinks they didn't

put him in a good position to

win or build the team around him. But also, he's the guy who didn't put in any work while he was here. He was the guy that would leave after a Monday practice to go party. Well, I think that the. The guy who's Rizzo's co host there is making the best point, which is like, look, you gave them every. You are not just a classic bus that just wasn't good at football.

Yeah, you have. That's what's so annoying about Manzel these days, that he does these interviews where he takes accountability and understands how he let people down and everything. And then in the next breath, we'll start pointing the finger and blaming all the. Everybody that. That should have supported him or should have done this or done that.

That's. That's what he does in this tweet. I'm going to read this tweet here. So Johnny Manziel reacted. He comment tweeted that video we just played. So this is what he said. He does the exact, he does that. That exact thing you just talked about, Seth. He says, riz, you stupid C word. These comments were made in October of last year. But of course you bored homophobic slur in the Cleveland media have nothing to speak about because your quarterback stopped banging massage therapists and you can only speak about losing so much to all the people that listen to this trash ass show.

So the whole first thing is him just like name calling and being mad at this Riz guy guy for sticking up for Cleveland as a city. Continuing. This is Johnny. My tenure in Cleveland was doomed by a lot more people than just me. I've taken plenty of responsibility for my failures in that building and in that city. By the way, have you spoke to or about the sixth pick in the draft that year, Justin Gilbert, lately? That was their other first round pick that year, cornerback who was. He was also a bust. Or what about our all world coach that was hired Mike Petton? Sarcasm. Obviously Tom Brady couldn't have won with our roster from 2015. Just move on F off and leave me out of this bs okay.

Yeah, leave me out of this bs. It's like. All right, well, he's responding to something you said on a pretty large podcast, the Nightcap, which by the way, I mean, honestly, Johnny, like, who. Who makes his living by staying relevant somewhat, I'm guessing. But whatever, whatever trust fund he has and then whatever he makes from his social media. I was kind of surprised that like Johnny Manziel saying what he said back in late September, early October last year, that that episode or that clip on the Nightcaps YouTube channel only got 146,000 views, which were for a channel that size. And with a name like Johnny Manziel, I'm like, I'm surprised that didn't go viral at the time. I'm guessing it was just because the NFL season had kicked off and was in gear. Yeah, as opposed to. So like if he had said it or if it resurfaced in July, then this is the kind of stuff that gets traction. But he said it like, yeah, like. Yeah, he's. He's taking the shots and now acting like the victim that somebody is pushing back against.

Yeah, yeah, no, he's. He, he, he is, he's not likable, man. The other thing he does when he goes on These podcasts is. You're right. Like, he. He. He takes, like, pseudo accountability for what he did. He starts pointing fingers, and then he starts bragging about all the partying he was doing back then. Like, that part. Right.

He leans into, like, what. How out of control he was and everything, and yet at the same time, blames the people who couldn't rein him in.

So, okay. His ear injury in 2016 was insane.

Colby Rasmus hit a big home run in that game.

Usually. I really enjoy these exercises leading into the season. Except for this year. Anytime there's any kind of title like this I know exactly what the item is going to be for the Texans, and it's something about CJ Stroud.

[Sean]

CJ Stroud. Yeah, yeah. CJ Stroud. Have they done enough? And Mike Jones is the one who provides the answer to this. He writes for the athletes. Have they, the Texans, done enough to help CJ Stroud take the next step?

[Seth]

Yeah, so I guess that's, I mean, it's C.J. stroud related, but it's more about the offensive line, the running back, the wide receivers, all of that.

[Sean]

Yeah, yeah, it is. Do you think they've done enough to help CJ Stroud take the next step?

[Seth]

I think. I think they could have done more. I mean, like, honestly, the Bears last year were just so incredibly aggressive. Aggressive at going out and fixing the offensive line.

[Sean]

And then the center went and retired after the year that they.

[Seth]

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But they still haven't shown that level of aggression. But over the course of two years, I can kind of appreciate, you know, Casseria is almost taking like the Dana Brown's approach. Casario with the offensive line has taken Dana Brown's approach with the pitchers, which he's become a volume shooter where. All right, we're not necessarily going to blow you away with any of these acquisitions, but hopefully a few of them work out. And I think that's what, that's what ended up happening with that Ingram. But also Cam Robinson was part of that strategy.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

And they brought in Trent Brown last year and like, look, hey, that was, that was a very low level signing he was making. You know, not much more than the veteran minimum, but he ended up being a big part of that win streak. But this year they kind of, they upped that a notch. It still wasn't like they were going off after the top tier free agents, but just by addressing it with so many numbers, I'm, I'm cool with it right now.

[Sean]

Is there, is there any connection? Because look, the thing, the thing C.J. stroud is getting criticized the most for this off season is the postseason. Last year more so the Patriots game, obviously, because they lost that game and it was four interceptions in the first half. But the Steeler game, one great either. But the Patriots game specifically yet hurt not having Nico Collins. Collins. But there wasn't part of me watching that game going, Boy, C.J. stroud's throwing four interceptions because they haven't done enough for him. I'm watching it going. C.J. stroud's throwing four interceptions because either he's just making silly decisions or the moment's too big for him.

[Seth]

It. It so much of it felt.

[Sean]

And they couldn't run the football, I guess, to be fair.

[Seth]

No, I know. And I think that's the thing, is that I thought he had done a good job all year of managing, that there were things that the offense could and could not do. And I think in the regular season, when you're racking up wins and you're seeing where you are in the division, maybe it was an easier challenge psychologically. But I think when you get into single elimination, maybe that's where just that feeling of this game really, really matters. And we're not doing anything offensively. If it was without thinking about the concussion or anything else, like if it was just him just pushing too hard.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

Knowing that. All right, this. This time, this is where we're in the playoffs and that we got to make something happen. Like maybe if his faith in the process flagged or whatever it might be.

[Sean]

Yeah.

[Seth]

Because even though, you know, people point out that he made some nice plays in the Steelers game, there are at least some positive things to point out too.

[Sean]

Oh, yeah. Christian Kirk had 150 yards.

[Seth]

Right. And that is true. But he also had some really bad. I mean, the flea flicker was one that you just got to eat it on that play. You know, you air mailed the past a wide open Nico Collins. Like, there were some things that happened in that game that were still just really, really bad and atypical for cj.

[Sean]

Yeah. Yeah. And the weird thing too about that, and we'll get to some of the other teams here in a second because there are some interesting questions heading into the summer break here for a few of the Texans opponents this year. The other thing that people might say is, with respect to the New England game is, well, Nico Collins missed that game also, and he's clearly their A1, number one guy. The weird thing about that is that Nico Collins missed the San Francisco game in the regular season. And I think you could. That game has an argument as CJ's one of like his three or four best games as a pro.

[Seth]

Yeah.

Something about that, though, is that the 49ers were missing half their starters on defense and they were. They ended up being one of the worst defenses in the league. Playing the Patriots at home in bad weather, playing that defense without Nico Collins is a lot different than playing the 49ers at home in good weather.

As they did with. I mean, they let Devin Lloyd walk on the defensive side of the ball. They are like, the guys that they have returning as starters largely are guys who are already on the team. So including guys who are backups to Achan, where they like Tutin, I like

Tudin, I think, too, is a good player.

Tootin's an interesting one. They do have a lot of guys on their roster where you wonder. Okay, you remember Parker Washington? Parker Washington is a guy the last couple years. He'll make a big play against the Texans, and I'll feel like, oh, boy, he's really coming along. And then you look at his season totals and he's got like 400, 500 receiving.

But he's a good player, man.

I know, I know. Like, no, you feel like he's the guy that might really all of a sudden kind of click for them. But they just also, even though they like Tutin, when the offense, when the passing game started clicking, they really still weren't able to run the ball at all. And that's what's so curious about. Okay, are you really. Are you really just believing that you're going to fix the things in the run game despite not adding anybody to your roster? Or are you putting all that much on tooting or just improving the skill? Or are you just feeling like you're going to be able to just do it all with Trevor Lawrence's arm? Because I'd be. I'd be really nervous going into a season thinking, oh, they can do it all with Trevor Lawrence's arm.

I would, too, if I were a Jags fan. As a Texan fan, I hope they do that. I hope they lean heavily on him.

[Seth]

Parker Washington ended up having 847 yards.

[Sean]

Yeah.

Last year, 390 the year before.

He's a play. And he's. He's great in the return game, too. He returned a kick against the Texans for a touchdown. No, he's one of those guys, Seth, that is kind of like Alec Pierce was for the Colts. The first few years were like, okay, his numbers aren't eye popping, but boy, I feel like every time I watch that team, he's making a play or two in the game to the point where during the season last year, I was looking up his contract to see how many years he had left because I'm like, boy, when he becomes a free agent, that feels like he'd be one of those kind of smart signings where you're not having to pay him 30 million a year. Yeah, he'd be really good for you.

And he's only had one good game against the Texans in 2024. It was. He had six receptions from. For 103 yards. And that was the one that really stuck out in my mind.

And then last year he's had a couple of key catches and critical moments. Yes, that are like really nice snags. But. So even, even in the Texans games, he didn't have great output in 2025. But I felt like, man, this, this kid seems like he's kind of money.

Yep. Yep. So. So that's Jacksonville, Cleveland Browns. They are on the Texan schedule and of course their situation still includes desean Watson. And that's their big question. Who's going to be the quarterback of this football?

I had, because you listen to a lot more Browns radio, but the quote that caught my eye on this one was Watson's one opening to win the job is new coach Todd Monk and wanting a mobile quarterback. Yeah, but Watson through the spring looked like the same inconsistent player he was through the first three seasons in Cleveland. Is Watson, is he still mobile after coming off of those two? He tore the same Achilles tendon twice.

Is he still looked at as a mobile quarterback?

You know what, as much as I listen, listen in on Cleveland radio, I don't recall listening to them talking about his mobility. Mostly because the two hosts that I listen to probably aren't out at camp. They're not watching him. And I don't know how big a topic that's been. I. I just know from watching what I've watched and, and again, this is like the Tank Dell thing. Like, boy, you watch him doing these cone drills and he looks great. Same thing with desean. I mean, they're under center in the tush push all the time. But I, I like that if Jalen hurts, adapts to it, it could end up being, you know, one of these, like every other year where all of a sudden Jalen hurts. Did I say Jaden Daniels? Jalen hurts, you know, looks like one of the best quarterbacks in the league. I'm intrigued by it. I, I, I'm not going to believe in Manion until he proves it.

Does the system shoot the quarterback? And then, I mean, the, the whole other part about it was, man, there's so many, there's always weird stuff going on in Philadelphia. But Jeff, Jeff Stoutland choosing to leave the team. It feels like it. When I see some of the people talk about the Eagles, the players, where they're trying to, where they're trying not to say anything wrong or anything. They almost look like, at this look in their eyes of like, like a hostage Victoria video. I feel like whatever level of dysfunction they've been comfortable, they've actually thrived with a certain amount of dysfunction in Philadelphia. Maybe this is finally the breaking point.

Maybe I, dude, for me, in Philly, like, they've, they've passed the point for me where I'm gonna start using that against them. I, they've just existed in it the entire time with Sirianni there.

I just feel to be what works with Sirianni.

Yeah, it's like they're like a team version of one of those. You know what they are, are. They're like the team version of Stefan Diggs, where Diggs has all this stuff going on in his private life. He's getting sued, he's got baby mama drama. He's he's always got drama going with teammates, and yet the guy just goes out, puts up 1200 yards every year even though he's got all this stuff. The Eagles are like the team version of that. Like they got all this stuff going on. Nick Sirianni's jawing, literally jawing with fans at games. AJ Brown. Brown hates Jalen hurts. This guy hates that guy. Who. Who the hell else? Constant over constant turnover at offensive coordinator and you look up and they win 12 games every year.

Right, right. And it's a disappointment. I think that there's a part of what the way they operate that I feel like with Jalen hurts because he's such a unique quarterback. He's just kind of fits into his own category of his skill set. Even for dual threat quarterbacks. He's just, he's a unicorn because of the power element. You know, you have a lower body. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That. I almost feel like they just. I feel like they're at peace thinking, you know what? Just every couple years we need to bring in a different offensive coordinator. He's got a different way of using a mobile quarterback that can make up for some of his deficiencies as a passer. And we just spring it on the league and if we feel like they're starting to catch up, then we just bring in a different offensive coordinator.

I tell you what for, you know, for a series in the middle of July, that three game series with the Texas Rangers up in Arlington. Seth is going to be. That's a big one for the Astros.

Yeah. So is it reasonable they're three games under.500. So they've got nine games between. Now in the All Star break, is it reasonable for me, me to expect to come in on Monday the 12th? I guess it would be. And have the Astros sitting there at the all star break with a.500 record?

They Sean, they have three games against the Rays who Currently have the best. Is it three or four games against. Three games against. The Rays currently have the best. The best record in the al.

You know, pacing everybody else. The. I mean, the Yankees. Yankees have been disgusting the last. They're, they're, they've been bad in the last 10. And it's even worse than that, I think, whereas the Rays have gone on our stretch where they're eight and two now over the last 10 games. So it's, it's going to be dicey. It's going to be nicey. And the Nationals aren't a bad team. The Nationals, you know, the Nationals would fit right in in the al.

[Sean]

Yeah. Yeah, that's right. They would fit right in in the. And that's on the.

They might be leading a division or two in the al.

Yeah. That's on the road. Texas. Texas is on the road. You know, I, I am. I'm anxious to see this with, you know, Javier coming back. They're going to use him in the bullpen. Yeah. We'll see. That's. They'd have to go six and three over these. Well, that's all they do, though, was winning series for a while. I don't think it's unreasonable.

They have to go selling. You know, the Rangers could go on. You're going to, you're going to be dealing a blow to the Rangers when you come back. Yeah. So that's. No, it's. It's doable.

Okay. It's doable. Okay. Here, let me ask you. Is this doable? Do you think that tomorrow, like last year in the Reggie and Ron radio thon.

Now, that was one of the first places Brandi and I started, like, eating when we first got to Houston. As the crab is right there. There in Kirby.

It's a good spot.

We had a couple of meals there early on.

Yeah, it's kind of a. It's. It's the closest thing in town that I've experienced to, like, you go there and. And there's. There's like a 60% chance you see somebody famous there. Yeah, a lot of famous people go there. Rusty Harden is there all the time. He's famous. Andre Johnson. Andre Johnson. Andre Johnson was there the other night when we took my son Sammy there for his birthday.

[Seth]

What are you putting his business out there for, man? What is he doing? Does he do. Who's he there with? He's just put other people's business out there.

[Sean]

He's just eating. Ye. He was just. I mean, he was walk through the restaurant, you know. Yeah. So. So that'll be. That's where. If you win that auction, that's where you're going with us. So if you like good Italian food, good stories. Because we will tell stories that we can't tell on the radio. So. Yeah, that'll. That'll be. That'll be fun. So that.

I don't get, like, get over them going to the playoffs, even if they go there. So I'm not supposed to root for them to go to the playoffs. Lopez did that last year. Lopez did that thing. Like, I'm not even rooting for them to go. I don't even want them to go to the playoffs. And, like, that just doesn't compute to me that I don't want my team to go to the playoffs. Yeah, I do. I think they're going to win the World Series. Text or no. Is that how I sound? Do I sound like I think they're going to, like, go on this tear in the playoffs? No, but I. You know what I like, Seth, as someone who likes sports? You know what I like? More sports.

More sports. Now, this is the difference, though, too. It's that I can look and see where I'm open at this point to the Astros continuing to be a different team as the season progresses. First, they were an awful baseball team. Then they started actually playing credible baseball, and then their bullpen actually got solid and good and impressive. And there's still parts of this team where, because of either injury or while mostly because of injury offensively and defensively, there's still a lot of time for them to be a completely different team in the second half of the season than they are in the first. Yeah. Am I going to be over the moon with the playoff possibilities if they squeak into the playoffs with a.500 record? No, most likely. Likely not. But I think there's a chance that they go on a run a couple of times with Javier coming back, Blanco coming back. Was Neski possibly. And then Pena, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. I think that you might be you might feel differently in September than you do right now when you say, okay, well, why bother? Even if they make the playoffs.

[Sean]

So Ken Rosenthal did his. His selections for the All Star team team out of both leagues. The only Astro he has, not surprisingly, the only Astro he has making the All Star team is the only one that's probably going to make it, which is Jordan Alvarez. If you had to pit and, and I think it goes without saying, Seth, they're going to need your Don A, to be healthy and B, to be playing like this to make a run at anything. Playoffs run in the playoffs, whatever. That's. That's undebatable. You need your Don Alvarez to be your Don if you're going to. If you're going to win enough games to get to and maybe make some noise in the postseason. If you had to pick one other guy in the Astros, you get. Your genie has come down and given you a wish and you can make one other Astro to play at an All Star level the rest of the season after the All Star break.

[Seth]

Who would it be? I mean, that's a little. I

[Sean]

pick one, I guess.

[Seth]

Okay, so do I go with the guy who, if he's playing at an All Star level, it's the very best. I mean, like Hunter Brown, I guess. Is he in the category? Well, yeah, yeah. No, I think.

[Sean]

I think that's the interesting debate, actually. Is it someone like Jeremy Pena or is it a pitcher like Hunter Brown who only pitches every five days?

[Seth]

Yeah, I guess that's a. It's hard with Hunter Brown because we just don't even know how he's actually pitching this year necessarily.

[Sean]

Right.

[Seth]

So I guess, like, let's leave Hunter Brown out of it. Like, let's assume, okay, you're going to get an All Star caliber performance out of 100 brown. Okay.

[Sean]

Okay.

[Seth]

I would say it might be. It might be. No, I don't want it to be e Mai because then he's definitely. I want. We're stuck in that bind now where we want Emi to look incredible the second half of the season, which also means that there's not a chance in hell Imai's going to be here next year.

[Sean]

That we lived through the hard part and then that he went off. I don't know.

Maybe he, maybe, Maybe he doesn't want to go through an A re acclimation again with another 10. I'm going to go to. Too deep down the E. My.

Like he's, he's going to try to Altuve out there every day. So as long as Altuve is going to be out there every day, then we may as well get the All Star version of Jose Altuve. That would. That I. I remember last year when I had to do the first week of training camp from Oregon because I had to be out there, that there was one day where, like, I don't do well with the time zone and I had fallen asleep early. Was that the same. Was that the same trip where you got up like, spontaneously at 5:59?

Yeah, my phone had died and I just woke up like, right. Like three minutes before the show was supposed to start.

And just really go with it. And then in the fridge, Mandarin oranges. All right. Okay.

If I don't. But I can eat a bag, you know, It's a healthy snack. Yeah. Until you eat the whole bag of them. And so I try to limit myself there. And then just Greek yogurt.

[Sean]

You eat Greek yogurt all the time?

[Seth]

Yeah. It just keeps me from. It just sits in your belly. It's for days. You don't get hungry after you have a couple of. This is the key, though. You Gotta. You gotta force yourself to eat it. Unsweetened. Cause I'll have. If I have two. If I have. If I have a couple of servings of Greek yogurt. Unsweetened. Yeah, I just. I'm not hungry again for a long time. If I put any kind of sweetener in it, I'll have two tubs of Greek yogurt and then. Want to go eat a pizza?

[Sean]

Nothing like, I like more in my fridge than paste. Yes. Yeah. Greek yogurt with no sweetener.

[Seth]

Not.

[Sean]

Not even, like, agave or something healthy like that.

[Seth]

I'll do it. It just. It triggers me, man.

[Sean]

Any kind of.

[Seth]

Any kind of sweetness, any kind of sweetener, artificial or regular or anything, it just. It triggers my appetite.

What's. What. What would be bad about eating so many mandarin oranges? Is it the sugar? Is it the. The fruity?

[Seth]

I mean, it's just the. The overall total calorie. Like, there's no. There's no food that's so healthy that you should eat way more of it than you should.

[Sean]

Is it fact or fiction that you actually burn calories eating celery? Is that true? Like, you actually, you. You have a positive calorie effect. I've heard that. There's so. It's so few calories and the energy.

[Seth]

There's a net. There's a net calorie. That's what I've heard. I've heard.

[Sean]

Not. Not like, that's my workout for the day type thing. Like, what are you gonna do? We should push this to the limit in the extreme and see if that'll work. You know what a real workout is? Get on the elliptical while eating some celery. That's really going to accelerate the burn. I tells you. I think I'm in full radio thon mode because my brain was like, I want to put this to a test. I want to, like, just spend 12 hours eating celery. Yeah, yeah, yeah. If I weigh myself on the beginning, on the front side and the backside would have caloric count.

[Seth]

Well, yeah. To answer your question about the oranges, I did the. I did calculate the glycemic load on how many oranges I just wanted. It was definitely unhealthy.

[Sean]

Yeah, that's. I was just curious.

[Seth]
