Our team is doing a really nice job. And what you look for in camp, for me, I talk about it. You look for that competitive nature, like back and forth, both sides making plays. And that's what we see every day. You know, someone is making a big play, right. And if someone makes a bad play, nobody's down about it. It's okay. How do we come back? How do we respond in a positive manner with that next play mentality? That's how our guys are responding. So it's been great. Going to get other. I think it's starting to get to that time where it's time to, you know, play a game against someone else. But our guys, they've done a great job all camp.

It is a big week because on Thursday, not only do we have a preseason game, but we're. We're. We're opening up 95.7 the fan.

This is. No, it's been. And it's been. This has been a fun training camp so far. Mostly because of what d' Amico just said. That, look, the offense is. The offense is making some plays. They're not making plays as consistently as the defense, but compared to last season, it's. It's. It's a marked improvement.

[Seth Payne]

Has it been. We're nine practices in. Has it been better, worse, or the same as you expected for the offense?

[Sean Pendergast]

It's been better than I expected. Better than you, I guess, or at least it was. I realistically hoped for something like this. I think, honestly, like, one of the most. One of the most encouraging things that only a Texans fan would understand why I'm talking about this. There's anybody from another team just listening and maybe some Chargers fans because they're like, yeah, let's hear what's going on with Houston before they, if I know

[Seth Payne]

Charger fans, they're going to be up at three in the morning before they listen to scouting on preseason, before they

[Sean Pendergast]

face off preseason game number one, they're going to be like what the hell is this guy talking about when he says the pre snap penalties by the offense have been almost non existent. But that also comes as they're doing a lot of shifts and motions and a lot of pre snap stuff and it's just, it's a cleaner operation and they are making some plays, but the defense is still, it's the best defense in the league. And they're going against an offense that we don't know how good they are. Not right now, but they're not the best offense in the league. So like, like Saturday night, this is what Saturday night was, Sean, with the ones. Ones versus ones. I think the Twos did a better job. The offense did. But ones versus ones, the defense is like a heavily favored NBA team in the playoffs that dropped game two and they come out in game three and they're like, all right, seriously, what the hell. And they.

[Seth Payne]

So Friday was kind of game two. Yeah. And then Saturday was they was, they're

[Sean Pendergast]

coming back or even just in general, whether they just didn't. Maybe they felt like this during the week. They didn't play as well as they wanted. We saw Will Anderson after practice.

[Seth Payne]

Great analogy.

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah, thanks. It is, it's like they're clear the better squad, but every now and then the other squad, they've got pros, you know.

[Seth Payne]

Yeah.

[Sean Pendergast]

Enos Cantor is gonna do something every now and then. Yep. And, and then they, they just, they went out and they, and they slapped down the lesser team on Saturday.

[D' Amico Ryans]

They did.

Yeah. The defense, the defense ruled the day.

[Sean Pendergast]

I would say the offensive line on the second team playing well though, I think is a good sign of the depth of the offensive line.

[Seth Payne]

Yeah, there's gonna be. I think that's maybe the, the most encouraging thing for me about the offense. Two things. One, as you point out, they are winning some reps out here which they didn't do last year. Quite literally, they didn't do. I can't remember a single rep they won in training camp in 2025. They're winning some reps out here.

[Sean Pendergast]

A single rep.

[Seth Payne]

I mean it probably happened. I just can't remember. But the battle for some of these positions on the offensive side making this team is going to be really interesting. And not because of things in previous years where you had maybe like on the offensive line room you had like three guys you felt were NFL offensive linemen. And then it's like, all right, well, now we got to find nine of them here. This is, you know, like, like Blake Fisher, for example, has shown up a lot better this training camp than he's shown up in previous training camps.

[Sean Pendergast]

If we talk about the center position alone, I mean, last year, Jake Andrews is a guy who had been cut by the Patriots and traded. Cut by the Patriots and had played about a total of 70 snaps. And he's competing for the starting center spot with another guy in, well, Juice, Scruggs and Patterson. Yeah. And you know, who aren't starting caliber players right now. And Jake Andrews ends up getting the job. And I thought he made improvement as the year went along, but this year we're watching Keelan Rutledge at center and it just keeps getting better and better. And you can get excited about who's potential potentially playing center right now. And I think that's, that's probably the most stark difference. Whereas Jake Andrews. Jake Andrews is fighting for a roster spot, I think, no doubt. And that, you know, and they've got. Evan Brown is a guy that he's competing with, who's been a starter in the league is probably going to end up making the team as a swing interior offensive lineman. They've just got, they've got way more depth and way more. Which means that when somebody inevitably, inevitably gets injured on the offensive line, there's going to be a competent backup to go in and play competent football.

[Seth Payne]

Let's, let's hit Rutledge here. As long as you're bringing him up. This was Nick Caylee, because I get asked about him a lot. I don't know if you know out

[Sean Pendergast]

and about Haley or Rutledge.

[Seth Payne]

No. Well, kaylee, yes. Also, C.J. like, if you're listening to people, I get asked about when, when they say, hey, how do things look at training camp? CJ Is always number one. Kaylee is almost attached to CJ at the hip because he's the offensive coordinator. But people are really intrigued by Keelan Rutledge because they hear that he's playing center out here and he's never played center before.

[Sean Pendergast]

Right. Which, by the way, just to set the scene, everybody, who the hell is smoking a cigarette in 2026 somewhere then? Yeah, I can say it might be 50 yards away, but I pick up on it like nothing. So go ahead, Go ahead.

No, that's okay, now I can smell it, too. I can't stop.

You smell it? Yeah.

Yeah. I'm going to start bringing cigars. Smoke those early in the morning.

I'm same, same. Here's Nick Caylee on Saturday. The coordinators met with the media after Saturday's open practice, and he had this to say about rookie Keelan Rutledge. The same thing we saw on tape at Georgia Tech. He's a tough, nasty, accountable dude that is getting better every day. I mean, he's playing a really a position that puts a lot on you. He's got great people around him. Cole Popovich, I love. That's my guy. He's working.

[Sean Pendergast]

He hasn't changed a bit from the

[Seth Payne]

first time I heard him say, I don't even. I don't even have a suit. When he first showed up after the draft, I was like, I love this guy. I love this guy. But he's all ball and he's tough as nails.

He's all day tough.

[Sean Pendergast]

That was good branding. All day tough.

Yeah, it turns out he's actually got three wardrobes full of clothes.

Good job saying it, though, as they're

unloading seven trunks of clothing off that. No, he is. He's. What did he say? All day tough. And I think the big difference with, you know, him and we've talked about, okay, what's the difference between a rookie like Trevor Penning who comes in and he's fighting everybody but ends up being a horrible football player. Trevor Penning, for those of you who don't know, he was a first round draft pick by the New Orleans Saints a few years ago. But he had this whole Persona of, I'm Mr. Tough Guy. Remember, Trevor Penning was getting in fights in Saints training camp all the time. And it's because Trevor Penning is the kind of. I almost used a bad word. He's the kind of offensive lineman that's like, he's trying to act like he's tough, but he's just doing dirty stuff and like holding and hitting guys after the snap during training camp practices. The defensive linemen are going to take exception to Keelan Rutledge is tough in terms of just finishing plays, getting downfield, attaching to guys, playing violently and first and foremost, unlike Trevor Penning, I think Keelan Rutledge is going to be a good football player. So with young players, sometimes overly aggressive offensive linemen, what they do is they get off balance real easily. They get out. They get out of their cylinder. You think about just like a vertical cylinder of keeping everything under control. As an offensive lineman, the guys who are overly aggressive, they just. They get unbalanced, they get out over their feet and they get dumped on their face when they play real football.

[Seth Payne]

That's Penning.

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah, that's Penning. I don't worry about that with Kalen Rutledge at all. He plays with really good body control, and all of his aggression is very well placed and within. Within the. The framework of how he's supposed to be executing his techniques. So it's really cool to watch. He's. He's really strong. He's very explosive, and he's got a very good understanding of angles and leverage and where he's supposed to be on a play. And last year with the offensive line, one of the biggest things they struggled with was, all right, he started to do a better job of getting the defensive lineman blocked up, but they weren't getting up to the linebackers and safeties all that well. At the second level. Rutledge is. Rutledge might end up being really good at that. And, you know, Ingram, to the. On the right side is really good at that as well.

[Seth Payne]

So this is.

It's going to be a better rushing attack. I just. I just don't know how much better at this point.

[Seth Payne]

Yeah, he's. That's the thing about Rutledge that maybe people don't know or, you know, the stereotype. He's just, you know, he's a big white dude with a red beard. Yeah, he's a really good athlete.

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah.

[Seth Payne]

Played basketball in high school. He's a very, very good athlete. This is Keelan Rutledge with a conversation he had with Shelby Koppage, who does the. Shelby. She does the sidelines on the Texans pregame television broadcast. She's out here at training camp these last couple weeks interviewing players after practice. And this is Rutledge talking about the difference between guard, which is the position he played throughout college, and center, where he's being groomed for right now. Yeah, I think it's just getting everybody

[Tank Dell]

on the same page.

[Seth Payne]

Like, you know, at guard, you should kind of shut up and listen to the center. And at center, you know, coming in as a rookie, you gotta tell everybody what to do. So I think that's something that. Not necessarily intimidating, but way, way different because you're at the line of scrimmage and you're talking and making sure everybody's on the right page.

[Tank Dell]

So I think that's, that's the thing.

[Sean Pendergast]

How has it been working with C.J. so closely?

[Seth Payne]

Oh, it's been great. He's been great to me. Anything, you know, if I'm ever like a little hairy on something, you kind of look back there and that guy's

[D' Amico Ryans]

played a lot of football.

[Seth Payne]

So he'll get you on the right page.

[D' Amico Ryans]

Yeah.

[Sean Pendergast]

And that part about C.J. getting him on the right page, I think one of the more encouraging things I've heard from CJ this year is I've heard him a couple times mention the protection and him being involved in the protection. And that was something that I think it's an underrated challenge for guys, for young quarterbacks, no matter which system they're in, but especially in this one where they want him to be really involved in the pass protection. It's a lot, it's. I think it's probably every bit as complicated as everything that he has to work on with the receivers. And that part of it this year has been a lot cleaner. Even as they're playing with a rookie center, a lot of the time they're just, they're, they're picking up blitzes, they're. They're getting the right run plays called and doing the right checks. And that's where you're seeing fewer or non existent pre snap penalties. Yeah, like false starts are bad, but the ones that really are indicative of issues with the operation are the illegal motions, the illegal alignments, all of those things. And so far we haven't seen any of those. Now they're not out here with NFL refs, so these guys might not pick up on everything that an NFL ref might, but I mean, it's been really, really clean.

[D' Amico Ryans]

Yeah.

[Seth Payne]

This time of year ago, it was terrible.

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah.

[Seth Payne]

Yeah. So it's just, it's better than last year for sure. Speaking of CJ and speaking of the offensive line, this was Trent Brown. This is an interview he did with Cody Stutes and Landry Locke.

[Sean Pendergast]

I'm sorry, real quick. When I say false starts are bad, I mean in general they haven't been bad during this training camp.

[Seth Payne]

Yep. This is Trent Brown talking about the operation with C.J. here in year two.

Confidence. Super confident. Super confident. I mean, we're with me and, me and Nick were talking the other day last year, we were breaking the huddle with like seven seconds. We've been breaking the huddle with like 24 seconds and it's like, it's unbelievable.

[Sean Pendergast]

You know what I mean?

[Tank Dell]

Like, he's a lot more confident in the way he commands the huddle, a lot more confident in the way he called the plays. A lot more way he's seeing the field and what we're all seeing the field through the same set of eyes. And that's what you really want.

[Seth Payne]

Here's why I play. Trent Brown AUDIO Because Trent Brown, of all the offensive linemen, he's the one that doesn't play when it comes to praise and things like that.

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah.

[Seth Payne]

Remember last year when, when I think it was around that time Cole Popovich did an interview on with Mark Vandermeer and John Harris begrudgingly. So yeah, Cole Popovich looked like he wanted to be anywhere else. Not because of Mark and John, just because I don't think he's like an extrovert when it. At least in an interview setting Cole Popovich. But it was right around that same time too, where people were and Cole Popovich, like Mark and Johnny brought up the, the improvement of the offensive line. And Cole Popovich did not seem like he felt like they were greatly improved or anything like it was better. But he was, he was very, very hesitant to give overwhelming praise for the offensive line. Rightfully so. Trent Brown, of all the players and in large part Seth, I think you pointed this out like he's seen what good looks like. He was in New England for a

bunch of years in this offense while he was in New England 2018, especially with Tom Brady. That was the one year he was with Tom Brady. And like he knows how it's supposed to, what it looks like when, when it's operating the way it's supposed to.

So he did an interview, I remember at one point and, and I think, you know, and he was like, no, this, this is not good enough. So to hear Trent Brown be effusive in praise for cj, I think is meaningful maybe compared to some of the other offensive linemen.

And that whole part about just, hey, they're breaking the huddle, they're getting up to the line of scrimmage, all of that, that's the, that's the big thing that fans notice. You get up there, that, that Jeffrey Simmons sack that everybody remembers where he was just unblocked and got CJ to the ground in like 1.3 seconds last year, that was all a result of a bad pre snap operation that was just not getting the checks in, not everybody hearing the checks and everybody being on the On a different page. I don't. I don't think we're going to see atrocities like that early this season.

[Seth Payne]

Can I give you a regular person reaction to what Trent Brown just said? One aspect of it, when he said, last year we were. We were breaking the huddle and there's seven seconds left on the play clock. And this year there's 24 seconds left. What the hell is going on for those 17 seconds last year?

[Sean Pendergast]

Well, this is the thing. It's. It's. It's one of those things where there's so many steps involved in getting a play in. Yeah. To the quarterback. The quarterback getting the play out and then all of that. It's that every little, every couple of seconds really starts to add up. And if you want to think of it like a fine tuned machine, it's. Yeah. If one of the gears is off at the beginning of the process, it throws off the whole operation.

[Seth Payne]

And it's probably not all. Cj. It was the first time guy calling plays last year, too.

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah. From Kaylee deciding on a play to it getting into the huddle to then it getting communicated to the players.

And he also was a disappointment as a draft pick. So you wonder. That would be intriguing for me as. All right, man. All the reports of this kid coming out of Alabama were that he was an A plus character and everything. So that if somehow he got led astray, it is in him to be that solid citizen. And in him getting led astray, was that also part of why he wasn't playing all that well? That's the intriguing upside for.

Yeah, that's the other thing. He hasn't. He'd still be on the Lions if he was playing well.

But meanwhile. Right. If he was a really. If he had been. If he had been rookie of the year and an all pro in his second year, they're not cutting himself. This felt like all right, that's enough. We're done. Yeah. I think that the one intriguing thing is that Colin Wright, the undrafted rookie free agent out of Stanford, has really impressed a lot of people to the point where he's out there. He's out there defending passes in place of Derek Stingley the other night. And you know, he was actually. We're not supposed to. We're not supposed to talk about who's lining up where and everything, but like, the whole damn world knows that he was out there with the ones. Right. Playing for Derek Stingley.

Have you seen the billboards? Protect the team.

Right, right. But I mean, that the. Okay, yeah. All right, So. And every time they. Well, I think one of coaches talked about being out there running with the ones. Like every time one of the defensive backs is asked about a young player who's playing well, they bring up Colin Wright.

Yeah. Oh, yeah. He's at a good camp. Had a good camp. And by the way, the reason I mentioned Terry and Arnold, he. He worked out. He had a second visit with the Seahawks or one of the other teams that's kicking tires on him. All right, let's hit some baseball. In the next segment, the Astros still in first place, but the weekend was not great. And an article that I saw over the weekend about the playoff teams in Major League Baseball, I think kind of accentuate why this might not be a long run for the Astros. We will tell you why.

Oh, in the broadcast up in the press spot.

They're going to let us sit where Vandy and Vandy sits and Andre.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So we're going to sit up there because tomorrow they are. They're treating this like a game week. So they play. Obviously they host the Chargers on Thursday. Normally two days before the game, they would do a walkthrough in the stadium.

So that's like a glorified run through. Get all your special teams. That's the biggest thing. The most stressful thing during the preseason is probably the most stressful job in all of life. Sean, is being a special teams coach in a preseason game. We have to sort out 90 different dudes and like a five deep on the special teams, trying to be sure everybody is. It's really the assistant, the assistant special teams coordinator that's charged with all that stuff. And you gotta, you gotta be like an accountant out there getting everybody set up and organized on the sidelines.

That's a lot of work.

Yeah.

So the Astros lose two out of three over the weekend to the San Diego Padres. That's the bad news. The good news, they're still in first place by half the game in the American League west. And they play the horrific San Francisco Giants for the next few days. Yeah, so that's just what the doctor ordered. But I guess the, you know, from over the weekend and this is what's ultimately going to do. This team in the Athletic had an article about. Oh, no, it was mlb.com had an article that was ranking. They power ranked the starting rotations for all of the pot. Well, not all for the possible. For 12 possible playoff teams. Yeah, power ranked them. I said, okay, well, I don't expect this to be like 2019 where the Astros would be first or second. You know, you got Verlander, Granke and whatever, Garrett Cole. You know, I expected to have to scroll down on this thing. And I scrolled and I scrolled and I scrolled some more. And they weren't even in the article. There were 12 starting rotations possible. You know, I know there's 12 teams to make the playoffs, but obviously there's plenty of teams in the running right now. They. Their starting rotation right now. Seth wasn't even good enough to be in a 12 team power ranking for possible playoffs.

Okay. The other depressing thing that I saw was the report that, hey, they might not have added anything really of significance at the offseason. You know, they added one outfielder at the trade deadline, but they might not be done yet. I'm like, so, yeah, the unemployed guys that are available are.

[Seth Payne]

Made a home run for the Padres last night. Hayes. Astro fans wanting Hayes.

[Sean Pendergast]

That's how decrepit the outfield is, though, that they're looking at like, hey, we're not done yet.

There's unemployed dudes out there right now looking for jobs. Unemployed.

And you're acting like you're shopping at Tiffany's. You know, this guy just got cut

by a bad team showing up at the company Christmas party with a street walker.

Okay, so the way they did this article. So the way they did this article in mlb.com is they had an ideal top four and then key depth for some of the teams. And it's so depressing to look like the good teams. Like the. Like the Dodgers have good starters as key depth right now, not even in their top four. And I know they're an outlier. They just spend, spend, spend. But it did get me thinking, like, okay, if the Astros make the playoffs, what is the ideal. The ideal top four for the Astros? Can you even come up with an ideal top four? And here's why I say that. Obviously, we know Hunter Brown is the ace, and Peter Lambert had another Lambert start this weekend where he gave you five innings and he gave up two runs and a lot of traffic, but he worked his way out of some things. But Lambert would definitely be in your top four right now, too, just based on how he's pitched this season. After that, it's a free for all because you're counting on two guys right now. In Renell Blanco, who, again, was not great. He's got an ERA of about seven right now and four starts. And Hayden Wisniewski, who's had a couple of starts, he's looked pretty good.

[Sean Pendergast]

But, you know, I mean, in his career, there's no reason you should expect that he's gonna all of a sudden be lights out or.

[Seth Payne]

That's a great point.

[D' Amico Ryans]

Yeah.

[Seth Payne]

Yeah. And then the other two guys are Christian, Javier. And we saw what happened last night. You know, the. Javier is just too inconsistent. He had five. He had that five shutout inning, relief appearance, and now he's in there out of necessity because Imai is so inconsistent. He's your other guy. Like, those are the only six guys you have on the roster right now that are in the conversation. Can you find four? Can you find three that you feel really good about? I don't even feel, like, super great about Peter Lambert. I feel that to expire at some point.

[Sean Pendergast]

No. And, well, the whole thing is that it's. Once you make the playoffs, anything can happen. You know how it'd have to look with the Astros? It would have to be one of these ridiculously improbable stretches where you get the best. The best possible version of Javier, the best possible version of Blanco. You know, they might be throwing bullpen

[Seth Payne]

games after the top two guys. I know, because their bullpen's great. Yeah, their bullpen's great. But, yeah, it's. It's. I could see why they did put it this way. Once I went through the same exercise with the Astros that they did for the 12 teams that actually made that list, I'm like, okay, well, now I see why they didn't make A list. You couldn't even come up with an ideal top four for these guys.

[Sean Pendergast]

I think, I mean like Imai. Throwing Imai in there just feels ridiculous. He's got his work his way into being a steady starter.

[Seth Payne]

And yet, and yet he's had some good starts and his best start is probably other. Like if you. The ceiling for him is probably higher than anybody. But Hunter Brown in terms of like what the best looks like for him. Yeah, like his stuff is crazy, but he's just so, he's so inconsistent and if he gets behind the eight ball early in a game, he just loses it.

[Sean Pendergast]

His stuff is crazy. But to find a stretch where he's had consistently good performances in a row. I think the only one was back in. It was like back in late May, early June. He had that stretch of like three years. Yeah. And he had, he had a few almost, almost quality starts in a row. But then it's been like, okay, nice start next time up. Oh, he goes a third of an inning. All right.

[Seth Payne]

No, we wouldn't be bringing up his name five years ago with this team, you know, but like there's just like what are the other options right now? You got two Tommy John guys. You got Christian Javier who hasn't pitched well in three years and, and then you got Hunter Brown who's awesome and Peter Lambert who's been really good this year. It's, it's a scary. And this is what's going to get Dana Brown fired. This is what's going to get him fired. Because not only. Not only did he not go get some solutions for this team, but a few of these guys are his hand picked guys. You know, Imai in particular.

[Sean Pendergast]

Well, a few of these guys are his hand picked guys and some of other hand pick guys are nowhere to be found working in Chris like right. That's like that whatever plan there was for the off season, it just. This is, this has nothing to do with it. Whatever the hell's going on right now.

[Seth Payne]

Yep. So half game up in the, in the AL west and, and look, Cam

[Sean Pendergast]

Smith had a good, had a, has had a good week, you know. So at some point, don't read too much into it except that at some point theoretically it's going to click for him and maybe this will, this will really be the deal. And then Altuve and how he fares over the second half of the season.

[Seth Payne]

He swung the bat a little bit better. My two things, I have two things. I'm rooting for Seth the rest of the year other than the Astros to make the playoffs. One is for Jordan Alvarez to win the Triple Crown because if he wins the Triple Crown, he's winning the mvp. So the two kind of go hand in hand. Number two, I want Cam Smith. I thought about this after the game on Friday when he hit the two bombs. I need him to finish with a better wins above replacement than Kyle Tucker this year. Oh, I need Cam Smith to actually be a better player at 1/60 of the cost than Kyle Tucker. And you may say, well, what good does that do the Astros? Sean? The whole Tucker thing's water under the bridge. Nothing. I just think supremely embarrassing for Kyle Tucker to have the second year right fielder that came over in the trade who's making the league minimum be. And right now, right now, Cam's almost

double Kyle Tucker because of his defensive play. Yeah, Kyle Tucker right now sitting at a 0.7 war where he's usually up in the fours and fives. And that's cumulative. So you know, it's, it projects out to. Yeah. To a 1.4 or 1.3 or so on the season.

Yeah, yeah. Kyle Tucker would usually be.

[Sean Pendergast]

Now I'm saying Kyle Tucker. Yeah, 1.3.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Kyle Tucker would normally be like between three and four wins above replacement at this point. Yeah. And he's at 0.7. Cam Smith, 1.2. So these are the things I'm petty. That was Dmeeko Ryan's talking about. Jalen Noel, wide receiver. He is back from the non football injury list. Boy, this is, this is a much clearer path to return to play than the last non football injury the Texans experienced. Joe Mixon last year.

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, this was very clear because we saw Jalen Noel out here working out and everything. And you could tell the first time I saw him working out on a side field, I thought, okay, well, there's. There's.

[Seth Payne]

And he had a sleeve on his finger.

Yeah, he had some kind of a bandage on his finger. And I was like, all right. His legs are just fine. He is a wide receiver, so the fingers do tend to matter.

[Seth Payne]

Yep.

But the fact that when Casario had first said the, you know, talked about it, he said, might be a few weeks, that's where I got a little bit nervous because, you know, was there a ligament damage or something? And I'm guessing. I bet it was just a jammed finger and maybe a sprain or maybe a small break or something. But he should be out there pretty soon.

[D' Amico Ryans]

He's back.

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah. I mean, he's out there, but he should be out doing team stuff and everything. Yeah.

[Seth Payne]

Yep, he's back. And d' Amico Ryan has said this about Jalen Noel in what's a big year for him? Year two. Two coming up. He can play a big role on this team. Carving out that role. Demiko Ryan's talked about that Jalen has

a chance this year. 2 Again, like. Like I said about CJ is just getting more comfortable with what we're asking to do and what it'll be, the defined role for him. How do we carve out that role to where he's doing that one thing and doing it really well? I thought he did a great job when we asked him to go back and return last year. Made some really nice, productive returns for us in the punt return game. So I'm excited to see him to continue to build on his punt return and also finding that role on offense. Like, how can we find a way to get the ball in his hands multiple times a game?

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah. And I think, like, his. His explosiveness. I mean, the. That Chargers game, he just looked like he was shot out of a rocket on that touchdown reception that he had. Everything that we've heard Jaden Higgins say and everything that guys have said about Jaden Higgins, I think you can say about Jalen Noel. When it comes to learning the offense, understanding exactly where you're supposed to be and when you're supposed to be there on a route. All of those things Jalen Noel struggled with as well. I think Jaden Higgins just was a little bit ahead of the curve compared to Jalen Noel when it came to picking that stuff up. But I think both those guys, I mean, for one, they spend a lot of time with each other and they're both conscientious, they're both going to work at it. But I would expect that we come out here and we see Jalen Noel, similar to Jaden Higgins, be much more of a factor in these training camp practices and in the preseason games.

[Seth Payne]

Yep. Other news with the Texans from over the weekend. Jack Stonehouse, the free agent punter, undrafted free agent punter was cut. Kai Kroger is the only punter on the team right now. Frank Ross said in his media availability after practice on Saturday that consistency was the big thing. They wanted to kind of get this thing nailed down as to who the three specialists were gonna be. Yeah, they need to. They need to keep stirring the pot on the punter market.

[Sean Pendergast]

He didn't compliment Frank Ross didn't compliment Kai Kroger's punting ability. He complimented his holding. Yeah, there's a big deal for Kaimi. You know, they don't want to just go out, get some dude that can boom the ball, but, you know, has his Tony Romo hands as a holder.

[Seth Payne]

Feet for hands.

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah. So I. Much like we were concerned about backup defensive end, and then all of a sudden, lo and behold, they go out and get Jadevian Clowney. I think Jadevion, now that Jadevian's been in the news a lot more, there's a lot of people mispronouncing his name, and now it's filtered into me. So Jedevion Clowney, they went out and got him. And I think, yeah, the. I will not be surprised at all right now, I would say, is a greater than 50% chance that they either make a trade or pick up somebody off of waivers or something with a punter.

[Seth Payne]

They've already had some guys come through. We'll see if they had two guys trying out last week. One of them was like the best punter in the UFL last year.

[Sean Pendergast]

Oh, yeah. Well. And with Kai Kroger, when they. When they acquired him initially, you looked at it, and he's got all these advanced numbers and conventional numbers and everything that looked like he was one of the worst punters in the league. It's hard with specialists sometimes to parse out the signal. From the noise on that, I'm guessing there's some upside there that Casario thought he had, but so far we haven't seen it out here.

Yeah, I don't know.

[Sean Pendergast]

To the point where the. To the point where it actually. The damn punt people are freaking out over the punter, which I desperately don't want to participate in, but I have no choice.

[Seth Payne]

Well, I. But I think it says maybe how fortified the rest of the roster is. Man, you're looking for stuff to worry about.

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if you have to look for it all that hard. If you are looking for it, look towards the sidelines, not deep downfield, you know, look like. Like 30 yards to 30 yards downfield on the sideline where the ball's going out of bounds.

Nico Collins back at practice on Saturday. He had. He. It seems like they're managing certain guys out here certain ways.

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah, I think Stingley. Stingley wasn't out there. And afterwards Matt Burke said that it was just totally just a rest day. He's fine. Nico. Nico. I'm wondering just because it was a couple practices in a row or was it two and three practices, doing a

lot of stuff off to the side. It feels like more than most guys.

But now he also though he's missed time the last. Every year. He's missed time every year. So maybe they've got him on a. On a much stricter load management protocol to try to, you know. Not that I don't know if getting a couple practices off in training camp doesn't probably keep you from getting concussion. Yeah, that's when your head bounces off the turf.

Yeah. Last year was a little different. Right. Astros we just talked about, they lose two out of three to the Padres over the weekend. Still in first place. He just turned 32 years old. I don't feel like this is indicative of. OK, classic guy in his 30s. He's going to start having a bunch of tendon issues or anything. But it is a little bit of an example of why the Texans traded him. Aside from swarm attributes or anything like that. He was making a boatload of money. And the Texans, as we had already seen, Laramie Tunsil can only do so much for you as a really, really good pass protector. When you've got issues at all the other four positions on the offensive line and they needed more bodies out there and the amount of money they were paying Laramie Tunsil, they've been able to spend a lot on Bringing in guys like Ed Ingram and Trent Brown and now this year, Wyatt Teller and Braden Smith. And I'm still a okay with that trade now. More so especially now that he's not even available.

Yep, yep. So Laramie's going to be out for a good long time.

That was a trade. Remember that? Like outside of Houston, people were wondering what the hell are the Texans doing? And it was almost unanimously praised inside of Houston.

Yeah. You know what? He was talking about his rehab in the past tense a lot. You'll notice on a couple of these that I liked in terms of some of the. He posted him running a route on his Instagram and it was. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it looked really, really good. Yeah. I mean, everything he does, he looks really crisp. If you walked out on the field and you didn't know anything about Tank Dell or his last couple of years and you saw him play, you'd think, who's that little guy? Yeah, that is. Wow. Who the hell is that? So you wouldn't think, oh, that boy. It looks like he might be fast, but he's recovering from an injury. No, there's none of that.

[Seth Payne]

Nope, there's none of that. Now we should caveat. He has not gone against any defenders yet in anything that he's done out here.

[Sean Pendergast]

Now that we've seen out here, you know, they've said that he's doing some other stuff, you know, when they're not out here at practice and everything, but I don't know. I don't know if they're like getting together a bunch of the rookies to, you know, play press coverage against him or anything.

[Seth Payne]

We just don't know. We just don't know. But Tank Dell. Tank Dell met with the media on Friday. We're going to get into a few of the cuts here in just a second. Before we do, I thought, and you tell me if I'm reading too much into this. I thought it was significant that they let Tank do a media session on Friday. They don't, they don't normally put guys in front of the media who are in hardcore recovery mode from an in. Like still in the recovery phase. Yeah, they just don't.

[Sean Pendergast]

They get. Okay, let me ask you first then, do we read into it all the fact that Henry Towa Toa did his media availability the day before they ended up announcing that he had an extension?

[Seth Payne]

No, that doesn't impact that he. I don't get the correlation.

[Sean Pendergast]

There was big news that was about to come out with Henry Toa Toa. So they put him up there and you know, speak news the next day. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know. We had a bunch of sound bites ready to go and everything. Think the Texans media people do as a solid every now and then with stuff like that?

[Seth Payne]

Yeah, no, I would think. I know the Toa Toa thing might have come out of nowhere because I would be thinking to be more inclined to put him up there after he signs a contract before because that's what they did with Aziz and Will.

[Sean Pendergast]

So now I don't know. I think that Tank's one of the bigger stories and I think people nationally have a lot of questions about Tank right now. I mean, there might have been requests from outside of Houston for People wanting to get. Wanting to get some Tank Del quotes. So I'm trying not to read into that because, honestly, everything he said. Everything he said in his press conference is in line with everything we've heard already, which is it's going to be. There's no real solid timeline that it's. They're going to go step by step, and every step that they take seems to be miniscule. It was the one big step last week was he's out there in shoulder pads, all right, but he's still not doing anything extra or more than he was before. So the next. I mean, the next big step would be if we see him out here in seven on seven, and then after that is in a team period, and then after that's in a preseason game. So I don't. This could be the week where. All right, it's the first preseason game. He's not going to play in that one. But maybe he's out there for seven on seven this week, and then maybe he's out there for team periods next week, and then maybe he makes an appearance in the third preseason game.

[Seth Payne]

So you're saying, like, Henry was.

You thought that was maybe purposeful, that he did his press?

I was just asking the day before

and that maybe this is a prelude to Tank doing more out here at practice today or something like that?

Yeah, maybe.

I mean, we don't know. It's still a lot of mystery with Tank. This is Tank Dell, very first cut from his press conference. He was asked about the rehab process, and he said the hardest part was the mental part.

[Tank Dell]

I'll say mentally, it's just about trusting. Trusting that the work you put in prior to going out there to do those things, prior to going out there to put your foot in the ground, trusting the process with the training staff and what they had set out for me. So when I got out here, I wasn't scared. And I was talking to my doctor, Dr. Lowe, and I was just asking, like, he was just telling me, let loose, like, and trust it and be you, because it's 100% stable. So when he told me that I just came out and was putting my foot in the ground, I didn't care about it. Try not to think about it, because during your process, like, the mental aspect of it is, like, the hardest thing you got to get over. So if I went out there, like, iffy about what I'm doing, then I probably would never be able to come back to what I want to be. So I was just out there Just trusting it, putting my foot in the ground, trying to be explosive, and it's working in my favor.

[Sean Pendergast]

So, you know, as he was telling that story about Dr. Lowe saying that and Dr. Laura, he cut me open a bunch of times. I love Dr. Lowe.

[Seth Payne]

Yeah.

[Sean Pendergast]

And I think he gave me some similar advice long, long, long ago. And it's true. It's kind of like trusting an airplane in turbulence. People don't realize just how strong those airplanes are, and that turbulence isn't gonna be the thing that it's not gonna break up just because there's violent turbulence and everything. And surgically repaired knee is kind of like that too. You're more likely to. You're more likely to get injured once everything is stable, you're more likely to get injured if you're. If you are compensating, and if you are kind of easing up a little bit, you might injure something else somewhere else in your anatomical chain. So just to trust it and if anything, just really, like, lean into testing it, you know, and know that I can stick my foot in the ground and get moving. And that's what it's looked like out there. It doesn't look like he's. Like, he's favoring anything at all.

[Seth Payne]

You had multiple surgeries. Was it the first surgery that you had where you had to come back from it?

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah.

[Seth Payne]

Was that. Was that hard to do that? And did it get easier with all the subsequent surgeries?

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah, it gets easier to just go for it, and you stop caring. You know what? You stopped catastrophizing injuries, and I just stopped caring about whether I got injured or not. So it wasn't like I almost had a sick. Like, my strategy for being sure I didn't favor it was to almost psychologically be like, no, I'm gonna try to tear it. I'm gonna. I'm gonna play so hard that I'm gonna tear it at bleep you. Yeah. You know, and so, yeah, it does. It gets easier with time. And when you have more surgeries. Now, ideally, I would prefer to have not had to. Mentally strong at doing that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[Tank Dell]

That's.

[Seth Payne]

But.

But you get comfortable that, you know, Cushing, I think, was. Had kind of the same mindset.

[Seth Payne]

Yep. So this was Tank Dell again. Tank Dell met with the media on Friday. This was something that we asked Nick Casario about several months ago, because I'd seen some Texan fans, you know, when they start talking about Tank coming back this year, going, well, you know, last time he was playing. It was Bobby Slowik offense. It wasn't this Nick Caylee offense. And I remember asking Nick about that part of it with Tank, you know, if and when he comes back, getting into the offense, you know, from. From a mental and X's and O standpoint, and. And Nick was almost like, no, Tank is. I mean, he was, like, really defending Tank's football intellect when we asked that question of him. Tank was asked about it on Friday, and he said he's a student of the game.

[Tank Dell]

I feel like anything you do in life, you're gonna have to get reps at it, so. But as far as knowing my plays, I'm a student of the game. So every day, like, I'm in there walkthroughs. I know y' all know OTAs. I was doing, like, walkthroughs. They was implement, implement, implement. Damn. Yes. Into the office. So I was doing walkthroughs and stuff like that. And on my. You know, I have, like, my brothers at home call to play out, and I just walk through it on my own. And so being a student of the game, that's easy for me because I love it. So I was just taking the time by myself to, you know, learn often, so it's cool.

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah, the mental reps really, really matter, and especially when you're walking through it and doing all of that stuff. I mean, doing everything in real time. Obviously there's matter when you're healthy, you know. Yeah. But, like, it's like. So if you do all that stuff and do the mental reps, then there is an adjustment when you start doing it in real time. But I think that he's been so active and involved. I was talking to. I was talking to Bill Lazer out here the other day. He's the special defensive assistant, but, you know, he's a longtime offensive coordinator. But he was talking about his son. His son's a quarterback at Brown, and he's. He was injured last year, and what he told. What he told his son was in talking to the coaches at Brown was, hey, give him some jobs to do, like to stay involved. Just, you know, so. So he's not just sitting there passively, whether it's him relaying calls or writing calls down on the sideline and everything. And I think Tank has been really. He hasn't just been around. It seems like he's been involved and really learning that offense more on a functional level, the way the team is. So it's not like him just learning it in a book. And Then showing up and trying to go out there and do it. I think that. That part I'm not worried about.

[Seth Payne]

Yep, me neither. Okay, so this was a good one. Somebody asked him. Somebody asked Tank about Jared Wayne. And of course, if you saw it, you remember it. But Tank and Jarred Wayne found themselves in the same part of the field in the end zone, and Jared Wayne going to the ground, hit Tank's knee. And that's what did it to Tank. Was Jarred Wayne hitting Tank in the knee and tearing all those ligaments.

[Sean Pendergast]

This led to a whole lot of social media hatred on Jared Wayne over these past couple years on his birthday. Right, right.

[Seth Payne]

Happy birthday, Jared Wayne.

[Sean Pendergast]

And I'm sorry to tell everybody, but Jared Wayne is having a really good camp. He shows up over and over and over again.

[Seth Payne]

Imagine if Jared Wayne makes this team and Tank doesn't. Not only G hurt his knee, you took his spot on the roster.

Mission accomplished. Here is. Here's Tank relaying or conveying the story about the communication he had with Jared Wayne after the injury.

He wrote me, like. He wrote me, like, right after it happened, but I wasn't on my phone like that, so I ain't really sit. But then when I got back to him, you know, I told him, like, ease up, yo. Like, it's football, you know? And I know it was a genuine mistake. Nobody want to take out their own guy. Not even another guy, like, today. So it was a mistake. I told him, man, it's good. God got me, like, ease up, man. Go play. Go have fun. Play football. I'll be back. So it was cool, you know, and it's no hard feeling. That's my brother. So we cool.

[Sean Pendergast]

I feel bad for Jared Wayne and however long that period was where Tank wasn't checking his phone or texting people back or anything, you know, when you.

[Seth Payne]

When you think someone's mad at you, you know what.

Yeah.

You apologize or something. And then the longer that goes without a respons, like, oh, boy, they. I really screwed it up.

[Seth Payne]

Not accept.

And then all of a sudden, it turns out that. Yeah, they're like, oh, no, I was at a. Yeah, I was. I was at a. I was at a retreat with no phone for a week. We're all good, right?

[Seth Payne]

Yeah. As far as people, you know, to hurt their knee, Jared Wayne couldn't have picked a nicer human being than Tank Dell.

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah, it's. Yeah. And that's largely, like, guys don't. I can't try to think of Guys. Yeah, guys don't usually get. You got to be kind of petty to get upset at somebody that just totally accidentally injured.

[Seth Payne]

Yeah, no, he didn't do it on purpose. This was Tank Dell talking about C.J. stroud. We all know Tank Dell and C.J. stroud. Very close friends. How did that relationship go throughout your rehab?

[Tank Dell]

Hey, man. This long process. He was with me the whole time, from the first day it happened to today. Like, long conversations. I go to his house. He come to my house. Like, long conversations about the future that we want to build with each other on the field and stuff like that. But off the field, bro, just being a brother to me. Like, sending me scripture, praying for me, just hanging out with me, you know, having fun. Y' all saw us off the court during the off season. Like, I was with him a lot, so it's the same. Like, that's my brother, like, to the end, with or without football. So, like, you know how that goes. So he was with me the whole time.

[Seth Payne]

Okay. No surprise there. CJ Stroud and Tank Dell are very close.

[Sean Pendergast]

The future that we want to build together in football.

[Seth Payne]

Did you and Gary Walker sit around

[Sean Pendergast]

talking about the future planned our future together in football. Football, yeah. Like I said, you know, I'd like to have a. You know, maybe a place out. Place out in the suburbs, you know, where we can go. We get to maybe have a half practice field out in our backyard.

Planning a place out in Bridgeland.

Oh, yeah, that's true. Yeah.

They were, like, side by. They can't have a compound.

It gave me a lot of time to reflect on the different fixtures I'd want in my house out in Bridgeland.

All right, one more from Tank Dell. This is just a funny one. I guess his little brother was around with him throughout his rehab. Tankdale's actual biological brother, as opposed to his team brothers like Jared Wayne and C.J. stroud. And he said having him around was a big help during recovery.

That was like my little maid around the house when I couldn't walk for a little bit. Like, he was like, if I. Like, if I go to walk down the stairs, he'll be by me, like, trying to hold me and stuff. Like, he was like, go get a water for me, bro. He'll go run to the bath. I'm gonna run to the kitchen, get a. So that was my. That's my guy, man. He'll spit an image of me. He loved the game. He loved to learn. He love to go out there and play football on his own with my brothers. They be in the house throwing the ball, and I be telling them not to, but, you know, he. He love it, and he loved me, so he was just with me the whole time, man. He shed tears with me, you know, he was on my side every step of the way. When I get back, when I was working out in the back, he. He in the back trying to work out with me. So you know how that goes.

So, yeah, if there's one thing I know about. I don't know how old his brother

So a lot of. A lot of family support from these guys.

All right, let me ask you this question that I posed to the Twitterverse over the weekend with respect to Tank Dell. So Tank has done Media now. He's been out here at practice doing some things. We're starting to see more of him.

So we put to your point. We, you know, in terms of like where this whole thing's going, we still got limited information. We haven't even seen him go. We haven't seen him go against other people. We don't know what he's doing behind the scenes, so. But with that information, we can always guess. It's not illegal to guess at things. What would you guess? Best guess for Tank status in week one. I put a poll out there. I'm curious what your opinion is as well.

[Sean Pendergast]

Yeah.

On the 53 man roster and active on game day. So tanks back.

Number two on the 53 man roster, but inactive on week one. Number three on some injured reserve designation.

Oh, cut. Okay. I think, honestly, I think that, not that you want to kowtow to your starting quarterback all the time, but I do feel like there's an element of how close he and CJ are, are that aside from any football considerations, I don't think there's a chance in hell he's cut. You know what?

I don't. That's a good point because I think C.J. seems like he's in a great place mentally right now.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

And I think the last thing you want to do is cut his best friend. Yeah.

Yeah. So. And then with all the football considerations, I still think that they, they see the upside in having Tank Dell around.

I think most likely because he can't be on the PUP because he wasn't on the PUP at the start of training camp.

So it would have to be one of those. He's not going to get cut. I think the best possibility given where I don't, I don't think right now, I don't think we're going to see a whole lot of them in a preseason game. Maybe we'll see some in the combined practices against other teams, but I'd be kind of surprised if they do that too. So I'm going to say he's probably on the roster, but inactive on game day.

I think the people think the same as I do.

Okay. The people, the people. They don't. But it's very close. Okay, it's very close. The, the, not the majority, but the most, the plurality think that he's going to be active week one.

40.5% of Texan fans voting in this poll, several hundred voters say that he'll be active in week one. 38.1%. So almost the exact same amount say he'll be on the 53 but inactive in week one. 18.4% say he'll be on injured reserve. Only 3% say he's going to be cut. Yeah, and I would agree with, I think cut. I can't. Unless there's just some drastic thing that happens with him medically between now and the end of camp. And even then, I think they keep him here on injured reserve just because they like having him around.

The tough part right now with the numbers is that with Tank depth only doing so much so far, maybe they. Maybe they really start moving along through the process. There's just. There's too many viable NFL wide receivers right now that could be a functioning part of your offense in case Nico or Jaden Higgins went down. Whether it's, you know, obviously, you've got Nico, you've got Jaden Higgins, you got Jalen Noel, you've got Xavier Hutchinson, you've got Jared Wayne. Well, let's say Justin Watson.

Justin Watson. That's five.

That's five right there. And then the young guys and. Or let's put Jared Wayne and Louis Bond and like, some of the, like, even Josh Kelly is showing up.

Yeah. Yeah. Sopkowitz keeps showing up pretty consistently. The undrafted rookie free agent. He's a very big wild card. I'm guessing he's going to be on the practice squad this year, but I think in week one, there's just too many viable guys that you could rely on for a heavy number of snacks that they'd want to have out there on the field to shoehorn Tank in there.

You know, like, there's some. There's going to be. If Jared Wayne and Louis Vaughn keep playing the way that they are at camp and it translates in the games, then this Tank Delt thing becomes quite the conundrum for the Texans.

But I do think, though, that if. I think that depending on health of everybody else, I think there's room for Tank in limited action and in special packages where. Where he could be lethal for you.

Without having to. You just all of a sudden, you know, roll everybody out in a hurry up and tanks on the field and teams don't quite know what to expect from him, that he could be that but it might not be week one.

He did. He set boundaries. He got into a scrape with Max Crosby. Me, if I had to just look at the two of them, I'd say, kirk Cousins, you're gonna lose that scrape. But he didn't care. He wasn't scared.

Oh, this is something that's good. You know what? I, I, I put this motion forward in 1996, and I'm glad to see it's finally grabbed some. Grabbed traction.

Yeah. So apparently this stems from an incident last year.

Yeah, I remember that. I remember when this incident was reported. Basically a couple of guys had killed a black bear, and they took it into one of the dorm halls, the kitchens, to butcher it.

To butcher it and make. They literally were gonna make bear pastrami.

Black bear pastrami. That's right.

Yeah.

Yeah. So, but here's the thing. This is what I learned in this story.

They killed this bear, like, two hours from campus.

And they were supposed to take it to a friend's house to do the butchering. And the friend. The friend had an emergency or something like that. So Chin and the other. And the reason why we know Chin's name and not the other guy. Chin's done, like, a couple podcasts, I guess.

Talking about this whole thing. So they took it back to the dorm and brought it into the kitchen of the dorm and I guess made some delicious bear pastrami. I don't know if it was good

And now, cornhole. Further evidence of the wussification of our educational system is saying that you can't butcher black bears in the dorm dining halls, which used to be damn near a rite of passage back when I was there.

We used to take the freshman football players out and make them kill a bear and drag it back barefoot and then butcher it and then feed us. Yes.

And it's why Cornell is the best Ivy League school. All these other Ivy League schools, they try to look down at us for having an ag school, and we're like, oh, I'm so. Right. Does d' Ameco Ryan's have a point about protect the team. There's a defensive coordinator in the NFL that thinks he does. We'll explain. One of the things that's kind of new and kind of a big deal out here at Texans training camp with fans out here and fans are going to be out here again today. Then I think there's one more fan practice. It's next Tuesday, the joint practice with the Raiders. That'll be when Cal McNair is cooking out out in the park parking lot. But is the theme is protect the team and what that means is when the team is in 11 on 11 periods they're asking all the fans to put their phones away and not film anything and post things on the Internet. Here was Demico Ryan's on the thought process behind that.

It's important to protect the team. Not just videos but for us, you know how we operate as a team. My main message is always is about the team first. So when it comes to the videos and things that are posted, we know everyone has a. Who has a phone is media.

And we don't, we don't want our plays getting out so other teams can study what we're doing here in training camp. That's just obvious. A lot of teams do this around the league. So it's, it's all about the team. So if you're true Texans fan and you want to see the Texans succeed, you wouldn't showcase our plays to teams who don't know what we're running.

Do you. Do you think it's a big deal

[Sean Pendergast]

to keep that stuff up? I think it's, I think it's a good policy just because I mean we told the story last week. The most infamous example of this was Jimmy Johnson who was sitting in his hotel room watching television before they were going to play the Bills in the super bowl. And there was like B roll footage behind the on the sports broadcast of the Bills at a walkthrough running a shovel pass that they hadn't run all season long. So lo and behold, Jimmy Johnson prepares for the shovel. Already shut it down in the Super Bowl. Yeah. And that might sound like an extreme example or whatnot, but I think, look, look, the Texans are doing some things offensively this year that are a little bit different than they've done in the last couple years. And I think that there's, I think that that's the kind of thing that if a bill's all it takes is one. Like it's not like a deep dive Investigation to have an intern peruse Texan social media like a Bills intern or a Bill's quality control guy. To peruse all of these, these clips and see what they're running and what it looks like they might be doing it. Like, oh, here's a guy just for whatever, whether it's an RPO or something else that any team might be doing that we haven't seen out of them before.

Okay. It's funny you should say that. Christian Parker is the new defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. Yeah, he's got an uphill climb this year. That was not a good defense last year. He was on 153 the Fan over the weekend. Now the Cowboys are a team. Go figure. That are the opposite of what the Texans are.

[Sean Pendergast]

Right. Because the complaint from Cowboys players and coaches has always been that Jerry Jones does not give a damn if it hurts the. The football side of things, if it's going to get more publicity.

Yeah, that's exactly right. So Christian Parker, who. Who in this interview had said kind of what you said, Seth, like he was a quality control guy. Even just through the course of just getting information on other teams, you get these videos that pop up. He said that he coached in Green Bay, Bay, Denver and Philly. And he said in all of those places we took stuff that we saw the Cowboys do.

Online and we incorporated, you know, at least early in the season, incorporated things that we saw.

Everybody's going to stream a practice, whatever.

the stories, but there have been some things I found along the way, either when I was a QC or as a position coach that, you know, know

do in terms of being ready for the. Yeah, so it's one of those things where I think the classic knee jerk response by a lot of people is like, oh, that's why you're going to lose a game in October. And like the answer, whenever anybody says that is like. Well, we don't know. Maybe not. Maybe it does just. You never know what little nugget of information might be the thing that ends up being a critical factor. So you try to eliminate as many nuggets as possible.

Yes.

So it's a matter of policy. And no, you're not going to. It's like any measure you ever take to protect information or property, everything. It's never going to be 100%. But you can. You can increase your odds or improve your odds by. By doing it. And just. If the Texans were the first team to do this, I would wholeheartedly say, okay, I get it, people. The Texans are being like more killjoy than other organizations. But I think other teams are doing. And it's not as good.

I know from the last couple off seasons, I've just noticed at times various fan bases commenting on this. Yeah. I do think it's a classic thing where. Where it's probably a pretty small minority of the fans that are really vocal about not liking it. And, you know, for people that. Especially the people that put the content out, I get it. Cause it's like. Yeah, it's really. I liked using the. Like, we're not allowed to film a lot of the stuff that the fans were allowed to film.

Yeah, I liked that.

I had access to that.

But I also get it and understand why they don't want to do it. It's kind of like with callers to sports radio, like, it's a. Like, there's study after study after study that shows the vast majority of people really don't like callers. But the people who call, they do not like when you don't take calls. And they think it's the greatest crime ever committed in human history and they will be very vocal about it.

People love talking to Daniil because he said he's the ultimate technique. And it's almost like going to train with Bruce Lee or something. You're hoping he teaches you some magical six inch punch that would destroy all things.
