it's
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Radio 610 presents Pain and Pendergast. I take a mania. We'll get to the worst takes of the week in in just a second. We'll play the champion here in just a couple texts. I want to hit on the text page. Text Number is still 713-57246 10. I don't know if that's what is going to remain. We've got a lot of people ask about that. I don't know if we've thought as far ahead as what phone numbers and things like that are going to be.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
If anything changes, we'll let y' all know. But for now, just stick with that.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
It's been a lot of meticulous planning going on with this switch over to 95. 7 the fan.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
You've been involved a lot of the social media side of it. Exactly.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
The social media and just the kind of the look of it all and just helping get it all implemented.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
It's going to be so fun, man. Yeah, I can't wait.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
It really is.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
August 13th, 8:00am the countdown is at 8:00am here. The switchover officially happens 8:00am the day of the Texans first preseason game of the 2026 preseason.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
And as we've shared with the public already, we'll still be here on 6:10am which is in my mind and you know not to jump the gun because we haven't like announced this part yet. But in my mind there's no reason to change the text number because we're still 610.
B. Scott
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
You know, 713-57246 10 still ring true or works.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
So I mean, that's true. We'll see what the company wants to do, but it still makes sense.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah, no doubt. Let's see, that's. We in the previous segment just talked about the egg recall that's going on. 19 million eggs in the kind of south central part of the United States. It looks like a Texas rip being right in the middle of it.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Do not love that.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
No, I don't either. Someone said that's why I own chickens. Eggs taste way better. I've heard that before from people who have their own. My daughter in high school built a chicken coop for a science project.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
It had her own chickens. And. And she. Those chickens provided eggs for. For my kids.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
And I support that. I support that. I also would like to just live in a world where I can just go buy the eggs and feel pretty good about it.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
That would be good, too.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
You know what I mean? Just. Just feel good about whatever that you order or whatever that you make and
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
buy them at prices that they've been at lately. Not the ones that, like, a couple of years. Remember when eggs were like. I do even like the eggs, like, the store eggs that are normally like a buck 69 a dozen.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
They were like $4.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
They were like 429.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
And I love eggs, man.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I love eggs.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
It tripped me out because I can remember being a cashier at walgreens in the mid-2000s, and, like, if they would be 199, people would lose their mind, you know, it's like $2 for some eggs.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
And it's like. No, just. Let me. Let me tell you about what 20 years from now is going to.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Kids, gather round. Let me tell you about 20. 25.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
When eggs were 429 a dozen.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
They were like the new gas prices.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yes.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
They were like, if you're old enough to remember when gas was a dollar or less.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Oh.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I tell you what, what my wife, if I were elected mayor, I learned last night what she would want me to do is issue sanctions and heavy taxes on those gas stations that are right in those strategic parts of, like, San Felipe.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Oh, yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
And the loop where they're charging, like, a dollar fifty more a gallon because they're in a spot where, for people who may be driving there, it might be worth it for them. They may just go, all right, I'll pay a little more. I just don't feel like driving somewhere.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
She is so right. Because every time I have to get gas, like, if I forget to get gas where I normally get it or where I know to get it.
B. Scott
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
And I'm just stuck where I've got to get it. Always feel like I've been played or like I've played myself.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah. So she would have me take down those people.
Lloyd Lockridge
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
She is. The day that I become mayor.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
She is a smart woman.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
And not just the body double for the current mayor.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
No, no, no, no.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
As I was.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
That doesn't work.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I was flagged last night at Carabas.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah. As a body double, you have no institutional power.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Are you ready to play these candidates for Take a Mania?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Let's do it.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Here is the current champ for Take a Mania. This is Vince Goodwill of ESPN basically chastising Victor Wembuyama for taking less money than he could have if he signed his max deal next year.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
The problem is the spurs have three potential max players on their roster. Victor Wembanyama, Steph Castle, Dylan Harper. Victor Wembanyama maybe can make up that 5% with his Nike deal and everything else. But does that mean Dylan Harper and Steph Castle, they have to take less because Victor Wembanyama took less. I have yet to see anybody buy a jersey that says we save money on the back of it. I've yet to see somebody buy a jersey that says cap, space and flexibility. Like, you're coming to see Victor Wembanyama and you're watching these players like you have a very finite period of time to maximize their earnings potential. I know Victor Wembanyama's an alien and everything else. He's going to get every dollar that's owed to him. But I don't know if I want to applaud this because I'll tell you this. When's the last time we asked an owner to sacrifice some money or whatever it is, or ownership groups to sacrifice money for the sake of winning? The fact that you're putting players in a spot where they have to be both player and executive, give them two salaries then because they're doing two people's jobs. And I don't like that.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I don't get the last part there where you're saying they're doing two people's jobs. The part there towards the end. And we'll get to the candidates here. We don't need to re adjudicate this. The part at the end where he's like, when do we ask the owners to sacrifice money? I'm like, when you ask them to go over the luxury tax.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
That's when you're asking the sacrifice more money.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah, that's it.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
What are we talking about here?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah. And I mean, they are far be it for me to side with the owners. Yeah. That's just not my style.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Sure.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
But they are funding the thing.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah. When do we ask them to sacrifice money? Payday.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
It's kind of a weird. Kind of a weird way of looking capitalism. He also made it sound like somebody twisted Victor Wima's arm in the tape. Like, was he held hostage and at gunpoint to sign this deal or something?
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Right.
Lloyd Lockridge
Or.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Or that someone like Dylan Harper or Stefan Castle can't choose to go somewhere else if they want to and actually go get more Money.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Or like. Or like they're the ones who, you know, I don't know. It's like they did. They. They didn't. It's not like they asked him to do this or like they can't still get the max deals that they would be worth.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
All right, so I'm gonna play a couple of new takes here first. Yeah, you will get it. You will get a bite at the apple on Kendrick Perkins. Do not worry, my friend. But the current champ is Vince Goodwill. This is Tom Brady being asked to give his Mount Rushmore of goats. Man. Keep in mind how Many faces on Mount Rushmore. Brandon Scott.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
4.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Four faces on Mount Rushmore.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
All the ones that I've seen anyway.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Same. Same Brady. Brady got taught different, I guess, back in the day.
Anna Garcia
Who is your Mount Rushmore of goats?
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Michael Jordan. He was my childhood idol. He was unbelievable. Obviously. I loved Kobe Bryant. I still love Kobe Bryant. Tiger. His competitiveness, what Roy McElroy's done, I love that. Shohei ot Johnny. What he's done has been unbelievable. Barry Bonds, he went to my high school. The biggest fan of him growing up, Michael Phelps. Love him. Michael Johnson. Asia Wilson from my Las Vegas Aces. I love her. She's amazing. Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. This little thing they got going, I love that. It's been really exciting.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Okay, I counted 10 names.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
There were 11.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
11. Okay.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
It would be understandable to lose track firing them off.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
I ran out of fingers.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
That's right.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
That's what happened.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I'm looking down at my hands And I count 10. He named 23. Brandon. Well, I ran out of fingers.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yikes.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
What do you want? So, I mean, this is just. This is just. I don't know, it's a misinterpretation or he's just afraid to only name four.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah, that's still pretty bad that Angel
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Reese even wound up in a conversation of goats. Did you hear him at the end?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah, so.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Because.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Well, because he was doing a thing there where it was like he changed the. Even the argument in the conversation.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Right.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Because, like, Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark's rivalry. What does that have to do with being a goat?
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah, exactly.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
You know, I mean.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Exactly. All right.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Is this worse than Vince Goodwill?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
I do think it's worse.
B. Scott
You do?
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I do think we got a new champ. All right, look at judging jury B. Scott. He has no patience for this, man.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
10 to 11 people on a Mount Rushmore. For somebody who already should actually be on the Mount Rushmore.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
That's pretty bad.
Anna Garcia
All Right.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
It's pretty bad, Byron.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I wasn't listening. Do we. We played the pin on that one, right? One, two, three, Pin. Okay, good.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Brady cover. Brady pinning Vince Goodwill. He hooked the leg.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Pinned him.
Adam Schefter
Got him.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
All right, next one. Let's play it again. The John Harbaugh pep talk to his team, the New York Giants.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Welcome, man. Good to see everybody here. You excited?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yes, sir.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Little nervous?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
No.
Adam Schefter
Huh?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
No.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Nervous, nervous, man. Nervous, excited, nervous. You know, Nervous like a full of dame almost made some give this thing kick off. Standing up here in front of the New York Giants. The New York Giants.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
It's a New York Giants.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Sitting in this room. The New York Giants.
Jenna Fisher
Life can feel overwhelming, but on my podcast, from the Heart with Rachel Braethan, we're in it together. Every Friday, a new episode brings you a new story with topics on motherhood, wellness, self love, and more. Listen to from the Heart with Rachel Brathan. Wherever you get your podcasts.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Wow. It's an honor. It's an honor to stand in front of this room right now. I know this coaching doctor feel the same way. Right? Coaches certainly are. It's an honor.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
We've been working, haven't we?
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
We've been working early. We've been very late getting ready for today. Today, sitting in this chair, in this seat, getting to work, getting started. Are beginning. Because this is where it all begins together.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah. So not so much a take, but just an opportunity to play that one more time.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
He is going to survive this one because the takes weren't really much a take. Like he didn't say anything controversial or wrong or inaccurate. He just sound like an old man who forgot what he was supposed to say or what he wanted to really say.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
So it's not good enough for Takeamania.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
It's good enough to be in take a Mania, but it's not good enough to really compete with some of the truly poor takes that are in this game.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah, no, he's a jabroni in this case. He's gonna get.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
He.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
He's gonna get. He's not gonna pin Tom Brady here. Yeah, Tom Brady's gonna kick out.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah,
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I don't even think we should have gotten a two count for that one.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
And as we mentioned, this was so bad, this hardball thing was so bad that it was good.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
You know, it'll get played again on the station. Not today. We've played three times already.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
But it was so bad. Yeah, it was excellent.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
He's gonna get asked about it too. You know, that happens a Lot of times with these guys when they have these moments like this and they get asked about it. Boy, I'm trying to think of what. Oh, Liam Cohen gets asked about the Duval thing all the time.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah. Sirianni, back when he got hired, I want to say was asked about, got
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
asked about his press conference quite a bit.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
You remember Adam Gase in the eye thing, which I don't remember what, like
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
medical or whatever been a medical condition? I don't know.
Adam Schefter
But it was.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
But it was a thing. Went viral. Viral moments.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah. Went viral.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Harbaugh is going to get. Harbaugh at the very least is hearing about, you know, he's catching heat from his buddies.
B. Scott
Oh.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
That are screen grabbing CBS Mornings, talking about it and stuff.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
If they are truly his buddies, if
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Jim Harbaugh hasn't clowned him about the scrutiny that that speech is getting, then I, I lost all respect for Jim Harbaugh.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Well, so he should be clowning them because they're brothers and that's his job. But I could see Jim Harbaugh being the one person that saw that and thought it was okay. Maybe. Yeah, like, oh, you really got.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I think Jim would have really leaned into the screaming of the New York Giants.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
He would have been a lot better and more convincing. And I think I agree with you that he would have leaned into it more. But I think that this would have been kind of his jam. Yeah, I do think so.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
All right, let's get this one in here. This is Jake Paul, brother of Logan Paul, YouTuber boxer. Yeah, Jake Paul, saying that he's saying he's gotten calls from NFL teams.
Jenna Fisher
Can you talk us through your plan to get to the NFL more?
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
I mean, it's pretty simple. Just like when I started boxing. It's funny to see the tweet and deleters out there, the non believers, the naysayers shout out to Drake. I think there's a lot of super mediocrity in the NFL. A lot of not good athletes, a lot of people dropping passes on a consistent basis. I have better hands than them. I'm faster than them. I'm stronger than them. I work harder than them. Really all it's going to take is just me after boxing, practicing some routes. I have a couple teams and coaches that I've already talked to that are interested in bringing me onto the team. It's really going to be quite easy.
Jenna Fisher
Do you have a dream team you'd like to play for?
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
I mean, I'd love to go to the Cleveland Browns. Been a Browns Fan my whole entire life. My mom is a die hard Browns fan and I think they could use some good receivers over there. 17 Browns reserve the jersey now. Thank you.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Okay. This is. Okay.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
I.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
You're going to make the decision on this, B. Scott. This like I do with Seth, I normally inject a little bit of my opinion into it and then leave it up to him. And this is. As a wrestling fan. Jake Paul's not the WWE guy in the family. Logan Paul is. But they're cut from the same cloth.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yes.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
The. The question becomes is that a take or is that somebody trying to rile up the Internet crowd like a wrestling heel would do?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah. Cuz it's like no way he believes any of this stuff that he's saying. Right?
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
He can't.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
But. But how? Comma. However, the Paul brothers are notoriously delusional and absurd and ridiculous. So he. So he also might. Who knows.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
And they make things happen too, man. Logan Paul first came on Byron. Correct me if I'm wrong, Logan Paul came into WWE as an attraction, just like a one off kind of thing. And he got in the ring and they watched him. They're like, holy crap, this guy needs to be on our roster. He was. I mean he's really amazing, right?
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah. Because I got. When I started watching wrestling it was because of like you and Ron and stuff. So I was there kind of late. Like I think he was already performing in the ring because he already had fought Roman and stuff.
So.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah, but yeah, okay. But he's a great performer. Logan Paul.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Oh yeah. Dude, you have to see the springboard bath flip he did B. Scott SummerSlam
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
a couple years ago. I have seen that.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I have seen that onto a table. Like it's. It's crazy stuff.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
They are actually.
Anna Garcia
I'm Anna Garcia, host of True Crime News, the podcast. Every week we bring you in depth coverage on cases making headlines as well as those that go under the radar. Listen to True Crime News, available now on the Odyssey app or wherever you get your podcasts.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Not to give them too much credit, but the Paul brothers are actually pretty good athletes.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yes. Oh yeah, they are.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
They're good athletes.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
They are. They're good athletes. Okay, so does this because I want to make sure we get perk in here for you. Is this take a mania champion worthy?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah, I Actually think this is worse.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
You got.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
You've.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
We've had two title changes in B. Scott's tenure as the judge and jury.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
This fool say, I just got to practice some routes. He's 29.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
So you don't care that it might have been just a rile up the Internet? Those words came out of his mouth.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
It's so stupid.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
And thus, like.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Like if you just take the take in a vacuum, it's. It is awful. Is. This is way worse than not knowing how many are on a Rushmore on Mount Rushmore.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Real quick. This one we're about to play is ineligible for the title because we adjudicated it already. But you thought this should have won the title in a. In a squash match.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Basically, this would have been the defending champion. Had I ruled the world.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
This is last week, Kendrick Perkins saying that on the heels of Jalen Brunson winning four ESPYs, that the ESPYs are the reason why he's a first ballot hall of Famer.
Kendrick Perkins
I grew up in the household with my grandparents, God rest they soul, and they used to always make me sit at the table and say, you better not get up until you finish your food. That's exactly what Jalen Brunson did. He finished his food. And look, with all those accomplishments last night cemented him as a first ballot hall of Famer, as a future first ballot hall of Famer. You can't tell me, with all of those accomplishments that happened just this year, that when Jalen Brunson retires that he's not going to be walking right into the hall of Fame. I hope I'm new. Hope I get the invite.
B. Scott
Wait, wait.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
The ESPYs, you think is what that honor is? What cemented it? Perk. Valid hall of Fame.
Kendrick Perkins
Every single thing.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Okay, good enough. Good, good, good enough. I just want to make sure we got Shay Cornette and. And Wendy being incredulous about what he said. You've got a minute? Right now we're up against it to go ahead and cut your promo on Kendrick Perkins, right?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
What is Kendrick Perkins talking about the ESPYs as an award? Like this would have been a more accurate take, a more suitable take had Jalen Brunson hosted the SBS but not winning ESPYs. Right? Like the ESPYs. That's not that those are. I don't know if Kendrick Perkins knows this or not, but those aren't real, actual sports awards. It's a nice show.
B. Scott
It's.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
There's a trophy involved.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
There's a trophy.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Somebody picked him Cool.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
But they're not.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
They're.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
They're award show awards, not a. Not sports awards.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Right?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
So the ESPYs, it's got a red carpet, it's got a comedian as a host. It is the sports version of the Grammys or the Oscars of the Emmys or whatever. Right? But it ain't real sports awards. It's awards that supplement guys and players and athletes who have already won the real actual awards. So I don't know if Kendrick Perkins knows this, but nothing has changed since the Knicks won the championship and Jalen Brunson won the Finals MVP to now them getting the coronation at the ESPYs. So nothing has changed.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
So he if he was a fringe hall of Famer, what I'm hearing you say, correct me if I'm wrong, if Jalen Brunson were a fringe hall of Famer after dominating the postseason this year, that the ESPYs didn't put it over the top for you.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
I just can't wait for to hear a story from John McClain sitting around with his hall of Fame voting buddies and somebody doing a presentation or John McClain himself doing the J.J. watt presentation and being like, did you see what he did@the SB?
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
JJ?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
JJ did you see how he cleaned up?
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
He's probably won an SB at some
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
point, I'd imagine so. He's won three Defensive Player of the Year award, so I imagine he has.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I gotta text McLain and see if the SPs ever, if, if the ESPYs have ever been brought up in Pro Football hall of Fame talks.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
I just hope that J.J. watt has enough ESPYs to to push him over.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Me too.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
What is this?
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I'd like to see him going to Canton someday.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
This was God awful.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
All right. Adam Schefter gave kind of his take and update on the the the top two picks of the 2020 or the Texans top two picks in the 2023 draft. He is still clinging to the contract for C.J. stroud thing happening. He also talks about Will Anderson Jr. We've got live from the West Point Lincoln and West Point Lincoln of Sugarland Studios. Here's Pain and Pendergast. Here was Adam Schefter on the I think this is the his podcast that he does with Ty Schmidt who's part of McAfee's crew. They were chatting on the Zoom yesterday and Adam Schefter is one of the guys who still seems to be clinging to the notion that C.J. stroud could get a contract extension before the start of the 2026 season. Here is Schefter, the latest in his mind on CJ Stroud.
Adam Schefter
Well, first of all, I think the big question this summer will be if and when they can get an extension done, a contract extension for CJ Stroud, who was great early on, who was good last year, had a terrible playoff game that everybody remembers. That's the lasting image. And so when you hear an extension for cj. Strike. Yeah, I think they want to keep him there in Houston. It won't surprise me if they tie him up. And this defense is so good.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
It would surprise me if they tied him.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
It would surprise me very much.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
And now would it surprise. It would surprise me if they tied him up. I guess the question would be from an emotional standpoint, how would I feel about it as a fan of the Texans, as a fantasy. I like CJ Stroud. I understand the two sides not having come to an agreement on anything. Or maybe they're even not. Maybe they're not even talking about it because the Texans are, you know, they, they have a number over here. Mulligetta and CJ have a different number. And the two sides seem to be cordial in if there's any sort of disagreement over that. Or maybe they're just both realizing the situation, that it's better off for all parties involved to wait a year. Schefter seems to think, though, that. That this could happen.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah, it seems confusing to me though. Cause why? What is it? And I understand that it's a negotiation and I understand how negotiations work. Right. You go back and forth, there's counters. It's not like negotiations are just simple cut and dry, especially when we're talking about this. It's not like the salaries are set or anything like that. So I get the back and forth nature of a negotiation. But even having said that, I would figure all the back and forth would have happened by now. And if they were going to reach a deal before the season, I just, I just don't get it, why it wouldn't have happened already.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I guess if you're, if you're cj, the question becomes, is there more unknown right now from CJ side or from the Texan side?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
And the answer is yes.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
The, the answer, there's unknown for both. Just because of heading into year two of this offense, everything that's around them, I'm just coming at it from CJ's perspective, I guess. Like, is there, I think there's more the Texans want to know about C.J. stroud. Is there more C.J. stroud wants to know about the Texans. And it could very well be that maybe if the Texans have made some sort of offer that's. That is in the neighborhood financially, that CJ Wants to go through training camp and just see what it feels like with all these new pieces on the line, second year in the system. Are all these things that we're hearing about this diligent off season that he's had, does it translate in training camp, that kind of thing? I'm just trying to come up with reasons. To me, the most obvious answer, this whole thing is that both sides need another year to. To go through the. To go through the fire with each other.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah. Because I think it's actually a fair question to ask. And I'm not going to really quibble with anybody who feels falls on either side to ask a similar question to what you just did. Who's got more to prove to who? Yeah, right. Like, does C.J. stroud have more to prove to the Texans? I would argue that he's got plenty to prove after how the season ended in the playoffs last year. But I'd also argue that the Texans got plenty to prove to CJ Stroud considering what they've done with this offense from the line to the coaching staff.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yep. Here's one more from Schefter. I will never turn down a chance to play audio of somebody saying Will Anderson is a beast.
Adam Schefter
So Will Anderson, I know people talk about him, but I think he's right there with Miles Garrett, to be perfectly honest. Like, that guy Will Anderson is a beast. And he is the heart of that Texans defense that should be about as good as any defense in the league. They also have to get their offensive line issues under control. They put a lot of energy, effort and resources into that offensive line. We'll see if they can protect CJ Stroud.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
So there you go.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah, I. Look, I love, love, love Will Anderson Jr. He's gonna have to do it a little bit longer to enter the Miles Garrett chat, but I get it. Right. He's right there behind him in the Defensive Player of the Year voting. He seems to be on that type of trajectory for sure.
Kendrick Perkins
Yep.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Absolutely. All right. As everybody knows, we are. I say, as everybody knows, like everybody, as most of you know, you haven't heard yet.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
And if you don't know, if you
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
don't know, you're about to know. You're about to find out. Sports Radio 610 is becoming 95. 7 the Fan come August 13th. 8am August 13th we make the switch over to 95. 7. The Fan station will still run here on Sports Radio 610. It'll become 610 the Fan that morning, but it'll simulcast on both stations. We've got an FM signal coming up now, so you don't need to worry about the HD anymore. It'll be 95. 7 the fan. I think people are really, really excited about that. I know we're very excited about that. Obviously here an element of it that
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
I hadn't thought about until this morning, obviously. And again, not, not to diminish any of our products, but if you are someone who has ever been frustrated with the Odyssey app, which I would still encourage you to download if you haven't already turn on notifications, you can check out our podcast and our Rewind feature and all of that. A lot of cool stuff on the Odyssey app, but it's also caused a little frustration over the years. If you just want to keep it simple, come August 13th, again, you're able, you'll be able to just cut us on on the FM dial. We'll have to deal with AM static or with app confusion. Just turn us on on the radio.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Well put. I know this guy will be listening come August 13th at 8am for the switch over because he's listening to this station forever. Like me. Larry's in Stafford. What's going on, dude?
B. Scott
What's going on, son B Scott. Hey man, I know that anytime you two are together, man, and this is no offense or a front to anybody else, I love the chemistry, man, because you guys understand what Ace Town is about. But I'm gonna get to the fan part of this thing at the end. But let me talk about Adam separate real quick. He ain't the only one that think that C.J. stroud is gonna get a contract. I think it's gonna get done by this weekend before they report to camp on Monday. And here's the reason why I'm gonna say that to you. If you look around the league, do you want to go out there looking at any of these other raggedy ass quarterbacks when you got a young 24 year old quarterback that has taken you to the playoffs three straight years? No. They're gonna sign C.J. stroud to a max deal. And because C.J. stroud and that game in New England, I don't give a damn how bad it was, we suffered through it. But all of that is over. I have told y' all many times, I do not want to be in the market looking for a Quarterback. And if you look at the college landscape because that fool Pavia or whoever just got cut by the Ravens and he was in the Heisman class. I don't want nothing to have to do with none of these old sorry ass quarterbacks that's coming through college now. Because the NFL is a grown man's game. And C.J. has been in the game long enough now, three years that we've seen the maturation. Plus he's getting Tank back, plus he's getting some other wide receivers that's gonna get some experience. So I'm all for them giving C.J. that Max contract. Because if any of you fools ever say to me that we want Baker Mayfield again, I am gonna curse your ass out. Now, next thing, let's talk about Logan Paul and his old janky ass brother. The only reason why I like Logan Paul is because he has gotten a lot of former boxers and a lot of people paid. They are a carnival barker. But you know what? If you could be a carnival barker and get Larry Stafford $60 million like he got Mike Tyson to fight his dumb ass, I'll be in the ring with Logan Paul ass too. Now, fellas, I've been a long time Houstonian and I've been a long time radio listener throughout my life in this city. And I grew up in this city understanding that you don't take your ass to Stankadena, AKA Pasadena. But I went to Pasadena several times as a high school student and I put my radio 95.7 the Fan, and that was KIKK back then, which we called it kkk, if you know what I mean. But we went to Pasadena. So going to Pasadena in my cutlet supreme as a young black man, I put it on 95.7. That's where I learned who George Strait the King was. That's who I learned who Garth Brooks came on the scene was. And that's who I learned that in Urban Cowboy. If you go back and look, I'm pretty sure that there was a KIKK shirt in that movie or a sticker somewhere. This is a huge move for you boys, man. And I could not be happier about it. Because I'm telling you now that I don't have to switch between FM and am. Everybody in this city gonna get a large dose of your boy from Stafford. And y' all might want to focus on that fan part of that damn name. Because I am a fan and I'm a fan, y' all ass to death when my boys start playing in a couple months.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
And I appreciate You, Larry. I knew Larry'd be excited about that. I love the historic perspect that. All right, we're up against it. So I. I do want to circle back to what Larry was saying about the quarterback thing, too.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yes.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I got thoughts on Larry's thoughts on CJ So Larry is predicting. We appreciate the phone call, Larry.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Max contract.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Max contract this weekend.
Kendrick Perkins
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
C.J. stroud's gonna sign a max contract before we find out where LeBron James is gonna play.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
I love the energy.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I do, too. Let's circle back to that. In the. In the final segment of the show, we'll set up what this weekend looks like for the Astros. What does it need to look like on Monday for us to make a decision on buying or selling? If you are the Houston Astros, we will get to that. Find out what the guy's got going on on in the loop as well. What's the question of the day? We'll do all of that. Final segment. Sports Radio 610 presents live from the West Point Lincoln and West Point Lincoln of Sugar Land Studios. Here's Pain and Pendergast. All right, final segment. Coming up, Payne and Pendergast. B. Scott in of front for Seth Payne. B. Scott will be in with me Monday and Tuesday next week, and then Seth is back on Wednesday, which will be the beginning of training camp. First practice of training camp. I can't believe it's here. Was that off season fast or slow for you, B. Scott?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
It was actually kind of slow.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Really?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah, it was kind of slow. I've been. I've been waiting for this for a long time, and I used basketball and whatever else was the World cup and everything else to kind of get me by. But, yeah, I'm ready, man.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I'm totally ready. It just feels like yesterday that CJ Threw all those picks against the New England Patriots.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I don't know.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
I. I feel a little bit different, man, because, you know, I watched the game at the watch party at nrg. Yeah. And I don't know, for whatever reason now, that feels like a long time ago. All of the long faces, some of the profanity, some of the words that I was hearing people say about CJ Was not a good feeling. Maybe I. Maybe it's because I've tried to forget it, you know, I've tried to put it past me. So now it feels like a defense mechanism. I think so.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
I think so. As I talk it out, I think that's what it is.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Okay.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
You went into shock.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
You went C.J.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
shocked.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
I kind of did. I kind of did. Yeah.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I can't wait. Now, if you missed it, Larry and Stafford just called in the previous segment on the heels of us playing Adam Schefter, saying that. That he thinks C.J. may get a contract. We can reset that. Actually. Byron, can you get the Schefter. Schefter one you got? Yeah, just give me a thumbs up when you got it in there. Because I think it's. It's still a. It's a big topic and it's.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
And if there is no contract before the season starts, it's going to be a topic throughout the year.
B. Scott
Right.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
If nothing else, I will make sure it's a topic because as I was reminded by a listener, Joe Q. Back in the day when, when Davis Mills was the starter back in 2022, on my old podcast, the Utopia Podcast, I had a thing called the Davis Mills replace O meter.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Oh, wow.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
And it was a kind of a fluid sort of numeric meter. Every week. I do remember this, how close we were, how close we should be to replacing Davis Mills with 10 being swap him out now and one being he's the entrenched starter.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Right.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
So each week, after each game, it would be like, Nope, it's at 3.2. Similarly, I think during the season, after each game on Monday, we'll do the CJ Stroud extend O meter, which is.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
That's a good adjustment.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
How close is he to getting a contract extension?
Lloyd Lockridge
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Not extensions like you hate. People putting Men putting in their hair.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah. No. C.J. stroud, to his credit, grew his hair. His hair out like a man and then cut it like a man. So. Yeah, no, he didn't. He didn't do that.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
It won't be that kind of extendometer. So here's, here's what Schefter said.
Adam Schefter
Well, first of all, I think the big question this summer will be if and when they can get an extension done. A contract extension for CJ Stroud, who was great early on, who was good last year, had a terrible playoff game that everybody remembers. That's the lasting image. And so when you hear an extension for CJ Strike. Yeah. I think they want to keep him there in Houston. It won't surprise me if they tie him up. And this defense is so good.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
It won't. So the money there is. It won't surprise me if they tie him up.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Huge if true.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Huge if true.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Huge if true.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Right.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Like if this hashtag huge if true.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
And then of course, Larry came In double back with the. Hey, they're going to get this done by the weekend.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
He.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
He put a little bit more sauce on it than Adam Schefter did.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Larry sounded like somebody who would be surprised if it doesn't get done this weekend.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Larry sound like somebody that, that, that talked to David Mulligetta, maybe, like he. With the confidence that he had. Right. I'm not sure.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Like someone who talked to both sides.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Lloyd Lockridge
Or.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Or Cal Hannah and David Muligeta.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah, all of them. They all. Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
And C.J.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
yeah. And he just pieced the whole thing together like a puzzle.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Shout out to you, Larry.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I'd be stunned. I'd be stunned. And the other thing Larry said was max contract, which we know that like the NBA is the one that. I know what he meant. He, he meant like, like market setting contract. So. Which I think right now, the market. I know Mahomes signed an extension where the new money was 64 million a year. I almost feel like Mahomes operates on a different plane than everybody else.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
He does.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I still think that the market is Dak Prescott's 60 million.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yes. So. Because this is a good part to break down or to kind of go through. Because even let's say that this is true, what Adam Schefter is saying is true and what Larry is saying is partially true, that he just gets the extension.
Lloyd Lockridge
Do we.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
How do we feel? Obviously, you want the Texans to be in the best position to spend their money wisely and all of that stuff.
Adam Schefter
We understand.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
But in terms of how you feel about CJ Stroud, do you feel a certain way or a type of way about how much he gets? Right. Like, is. If it's. If you're unsure about CJ Stroud, are you okay if he gets the extension? But it's not, to use Larry's term, max extension money. Okay.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I, you know, that's. Yeah.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Now.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
So now we're getting into, like, what's the range here where we start to. Because I can get super specific with numbers. I think, first of all, what's the
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
range that like, bothers you or, or, or conversely makes you comfortable?
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
It's, it's more about. I'll say this, and I'm going to answer your question, I promise. But it's, it's more about the guaranteed money than it is like the agent telling Shefter this is the contract. We know how that goes sometimes.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
I'm with you.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I do think that if they do a deal with CJ it's going to Look a lot like these other deals that they've done, which is a, like a three year deal where it's almost all guaranteed. You know, that's. That, that's. That was Will Anderson's deal. He. Will Anderson is three years, 150 with like 135 guaranteed. Derek Stingley's deal is all but a million of its guaranteed.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah, like 89 of the 90 or something like.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Something like that. Yeah. Like Jalen Petrie had a big chunk of his guaranteed. So I do think if there's a deal, because something like that does benefit CJ too, if he's confident enough in his ability to be the franchise quarterback, he gets an earlier bite at the apple again.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
So for me, like, I'll just put it this way. If they did a deal with CJ, if they did Will Anderson's deal with CJ Stroud.
B. Scott
How about that?
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Three years, 150, 135 million guaranteed. I would be fine with that. I wouldn't be over the moon about it. I would be fine with it. I wouldn't be nervous about it. Now what would get me nervous is they're paying a lot of guys, you know, and it's. It gets harder to get out of a deal like that. The more really good players you have that you're trying to pay. It really feels like they're doing their best to try to keep the band together here.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
And then when I say the band, I'm talking like guys who haven't been signed yet. Kamari Lasseter, Kaylin Bullock. You know, we'll see if any of these receivers that are these young receivers develop. Maybe I'm a little ahead of myself. In a perfect world, Ariante Ursary becomes a guy that you're working around other people's deals to keep because he plays a foundational position for you.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
But on the surface, in a vacuum, if it were to happen in the next few weeks, if they gave CJ a deal because 50 million a year is. He's below a lot of guys at 50 million. It sounds weird to say that.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
You know, because. Because 60 is Dak. And then like even Matthew Stafford got 55.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Josh Allen got 55 on his extension.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
What did Tua get?
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Two.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
We got 53 back in the day.
Lloyd Lockridge
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah. So I, I would be, I would be fine with that. But I, But I. People listen to the show, know. I skew more towards. I think CJ's gonna be fine.
Lloyd Lockridge
Yeah.
B. Scott
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
I don't skew towards the Patriot game. Is this Harbinger of what's to come. So I would be fine with that. What about you?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
I just think that the. So I actually agree with you on the numbers part, but just philosophically I'm actually okay with this wait and see approach. I want CJ Stroud to be the quarterback. I want CJ Stroud to get paid. So this is both from a Texans perspective, Texans fan perspective, and a CJ Stroud fan perspective. I like the guy who want him to get paid, want good things for him. But if you're just looking at it strictly from the Texans view, I think, I think it is smarter to go ahead and pay sooner. The guys that you're sure about or more sure about to say that, which
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
is what their MO has been and
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
what their MOs, man. Exactly what, what it is that they're doing. And I think that if C.J. stroud goes out there and just lights it up. Right. Puts on a light show, I would gladly pay him sticker price and I think the Texans should gladly pay him sticker price for the quarterback because that will be the price. But if he goes out there and it's similar to what this year was, where he's okay in the regular season and then the playoffs, let's just call them underwhelming, not a, not even a disaster or catastrophe like it was last year. Just ho hum, underwhelming. I think that leaves them in a very precarious spot in terms of hey, we're glad we didn't give them 60 plus million dollars a year last year, but what do we give him now? Well, and if we do anything at
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
all, and I would hate for that to happen only because I'm a Texan fan, it would be one of the most compelling quarterback decisions that we've seen a team have to make in a long, long time. If the season plays out the way you're talking about where the regular season this year looks like the regular season from last year where he was actually by some advanced metrics, an above average to upper third of the league quarterback. Like he wasn't nearly as bad in the regular season as people who keep pointing to the Patriots game want to say he was okay in the regular season, he was a disaster in the playoffs. But you're saying a playoff performance, that's not a disaster. But they still stubbed their toe in the divisional round.
B. Scott
Right.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
And C.J. is part of the reason why.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah. And certainly not the reason why they won because they will not have in that case.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
That's exactly right.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
That gets fascinating, because now you're talking about heading into the last year of his deal, the fifth year of his contract.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
You're.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
You're talking about another year of asking about the contract to Nick Casario to Demo Ryan's to CJ Stroud. You're also talking about a draft class full of quarterbacks. And I know Larry called in in the previous segment. He didn't have any appetite for putting a young guy in there.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
He don't want these raggedy quarterbacks.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
But, but, but this, this class, as of right now, we got a whole college season to play. I get it. And no, Fernando Mendoza wasn't on anybody's radar as a top pick a year ago. So guys can all of a sudden emerge.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
They were trying to sell us Club Nick and was my guy from lsu.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Oh, nusm.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
They were trying to sell us that early. Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah. So they. Right. So these things are fluid and they change. But I'm talking right now, July 24, the mock drafts all have five or six quarterbacks in the first round. That's another thing that would make like an. Not a disaster, C.J. but just the same stuff, minus the four interceptions. The same stuff. Fascinating.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Do they see somebody in this class that they'd rather commit to, by the way, at a rookie deal, when you've got Kamari Lasseter and Kaylin Bullock and other guys that you've got to sign? Like, this is a. That's why it's so compelling. It's not just a CJ Thing. This is a puzzle they've got to put together.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
That's exactly what you just said there. It's a puzzle. And so it leaves them, at least from where I sit, it leaves them asking the. A couple of different questions here. Is, is C.J. stroud worth the money? And based off of how they've built the team, you're talking about some of these defensive players, these younger players that we're talking about.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Do we even need a $60 million quarterback or want a $60 million quarterback anyway?
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Is Sam Darnold getting an extension from the Seahawks anytime soon? We've seen no chatter about that. The Seahawks are a team. Clearly, that looks like they believe, like, you know, what, 30 million quarter, $30 million quarterback good enough for us?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
We have defense in a running game.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
And I could absolutely be in. I could absolutely see the Texans being the team that looks at their quarterback and says, and again, I. I'm a supporter. I like C.J. stroud. But I could see them looking at it and saying, hey, we don't want to pay this price for this quarterback, nor do we feel like, based off of the type of team that we've built, that this is the price that we need to pay for a quarterback. Everything else is so expensive and so good. If we could just get a $25 to $30 million guy in here, we can make this work.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
You're listening to KLT AM, KLT FM, HD2, Houston, and Odyssey sports station. Crosstalk, brought to you by DNA Monolistic. Have we been doing the show this entire time with the lights at, like, half dimmer in here? How awful has that looked on YouTube?
Lloyd Lockridge
B.B.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
scott, you've had the YouTube.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah, it looked fine to me. It looked fine to me, which actually kind of surprises me. A little late night FM talk.
B. Scott
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Scott and I are setting a mood in here.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Scott in the mayor, but as the
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
guy play Misty for me.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
The Quiet Storm.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
But as the guy in charge of our video stream, I actually would prefer the lights.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah. Coming Monday. Candles.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Like y' all are having a seance in here or something.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Right?
B. Scott
Right.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Well, normally you would think. Normally you would think, like, if the lights were a little dimmer, it would be because the lighting is giving somebody a headache because they have a hangover or whatever. I am not hungover, but I was out and about, as Reggie alluded to. I was mistaken for the mayor last night in the original Carabas.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Can y' all see it? I didn't see it until he said
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
it a little bit, but I think
he should be offended.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Really? I do see it. You see it?
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Reggie said it in his suit. That picture you showed in a suit? Yeah, well, the picture. Yeah.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Amy. Amy made a mayoral poster for me.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
What are we doing?
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Which if I choose to run for mayor with B. Scott as my chief of staff. You're committed to this? Yes.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yes.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
It's an incredible poster. I'll put it up on my social media.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
And Amy is our graphics designer.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
She's our graphics designer.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Because she works. Make sure you put B. Scott out
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
front at all your events.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
We're trying to win the election.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Trying to get as big a cross section of the voters as I can
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
possibly try to win the election.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yep.
B. Scott
So.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
So that. So you said I should be offended, Reggie.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah, I think that. I think that he's got, like, a really oddly long head, in my opinion.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
He does have a different shaped head.
B. Scott
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
The head shape is different. And he looks older.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
He does look. He looks more tired, too.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
He is older.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
He is older. And he looks at.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
He's 19 years older.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Kendrick Perkins
He's that old.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
He could be 76. It could be your dad.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
A young dad, but your dad.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
He could be my dad if my dad got after it back in high school. Yeah, yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
No, seriously, I don't. I, I, I don't. I see the baldness.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
I see you both being white.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
You're around the same height. Yeah, I knew. I do know that. I've been around Mayor Whitmire. Y' all are around the same height.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
He wears a lot of suits, and I had a suit on. You had a suit on? I had a suit on at the time. That was my whole. My whole motive for going out for dinner was, well, I'm in a suit. I don't want to waste this opportunity. The eight times a year that I wear this thing.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Because there's also certain restaurants that you're just like, I shouldn't be in here without. Unless I look, you know, somewhat presentable. Obviously you can. Right. Nobody's actually going to stop you. But when you got a suit, you're like, I have tapped into a whole nother market of restaurant that I should
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
have went to an Italian restaurant. I went to Carrabba's. I'm like, I went to an Italian restaurant last.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Did they give you the good table?
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Did they? They gave me. Yeah. They kind of sit at the same place every time.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
You love to see it.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
In full. Tony Soprano.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Kind of feel like Tony Soprano.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Yeah.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Now, see your table.
That's right.
If you were a more mischievous person, I told you this. I think you would have went to the place that my brain went to, which is, oh, this person thinks I'm Mayor Whitmire. I can ruin his reputation.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Oh, I could. Yeah.
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Like, I can just do things that will now be placed upon John Whitmire unwittingly.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Well, that's the part that I was. That I'm just as curious about. Like, I would wonder, what does John Whitmire think about this comparison?
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Let's call him Figgy. Get him on the phone.
You know what I mean?
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Like, can you get the mayor on the phone?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Well, because I would imagine that the. The mayor's got a little bit of an ego. And what does he think about, you know, being confused for a radio host? You know, he probably. He probably thinks that, like, if you're really a supporter, but you don't really know what I look like you're confusing me with. With a radio host who doesn't look like me?
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Yeah.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Are you civically engaged as you say you are?
Guest or contributor on Pain and Pendergast
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Might I be. Might I be viewed as beneath him? You know, like that kind of thing? What the hell?
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
You're not. But are you viewed as. Y' all think somebody confused him as Sean Pendergast?
B. Scott
Yeah.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Do people walk up to Whitmire and say, hey, I love this show. Great show, man. That's the other one I get.
Co-host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Byron or Seth Payne)
Or just start talking about sports, like trying to get a sports.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Go Texans. Yeah, go Texans.
B. Scott
Yo.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
Love the post game show.

Lloyd Lockridge
And then we're going to investigate those stories and find out how much of it is true.
Host of Pain and Pendergast (possibly Seth Payne or co-host)
He gets a patent one month before the Wright Brothers. Oh, my God.

Houston’s go-to sports podcast hosts Sean Pendergast and Seth Payne (with B. Scott in for Seth this episode) dive into Texans contract talk, viral sports takes, a major radio transition, and classic H-Town sports banter.
The hosts lead a lively and insightful episode with their trademark mix of sharp opinions, sports expertise, and Houston flavor. Key topics are the looming contract extension for Texans QB C.J. Stroud, outrageous national sports “takes” (in the show’s “Takeamania” segment), listener call-ins, and the big announcement of SportsRadio 610’s transition to FM as 95.7 The Fan.
A signature bit where the crew judges some of the hottest, weirdest, or worst sports takes from around the country:
On Takeamania judgment:
On the risk of replacing Stroud:
On the inevitability of contract drama:
On ESPYs as Hall of Fame credentials:
On the quarterback contract puzzle:
This episode captures the Payne & Pendergast blend of local loyalty, rigorous sports debate, and sharp, fun commentary. The central tension is Houston’s quarterback future—should the Texans pay C.J. Stroud now or later, and what are the stakes for both player and franchise? With additional segments highlighting the silliest nationwide sports “takes,” a historic FM radio launch, and classic H-Town banter, it’s a strong, entertaining listen for any Houston sports fan or anyone intrigued by modern franchise-building dilemmas.
