This year is the 50th anniversary of the discovery of ibuprofen - a drug discovered by Dr Stewart Adams at the Boots Nottingham laboratories in 1961. The Nottingham connection is in fact even deeper. Dr Adams studied pharmacology at the University of Nottingham where he graduated in 1945, and where he was subsequently made an honorary D.Sc. In this interview for the BBC, Dr Adams describes how he made the discovery, and what the impact of the drug has been around the world.
