Well, so many of the pictures that I have seen have been of these nostalgic celebrity photos with people who are coming to see you before the show starts. It's a little bit of. It's a little unorthodox, but where did the idea of the pre show hang come about?

AJ McLean (7:12)

I mean, so. Well, so we've. We've kind of changed some things around as far as the layout of the show. So normally we would do our meet and greets before the show.

Danielle Fishel (7:24)

Okay.

AJ McLean (7:25)

So we now do our meet and greets right after the show. So all of our guests, our friends, family, any celeb guests that might be coming to the show. We have a little like VIP lounge.

Danielle Fishel (7:38)

To go mix and mingle before we get ready for the show. So that's kind of our little hang sesh prior to. Before getting ready before. And then, you know, some of them will come downstairs after the show. Mainly family. Yeah. And our Close friends. And we'll kind of catch up for a minute before we head to meet and greet. But I feel like my wife said to me, I think it was like, two days ago. She's like, I'm so proud of you guys and all this stuff. She's like, this feels like the most celebs coming to your show.

Oh, it's unbelievable.

We did have quite a few people come to the first residency we had here at, you know, Planet, but not like this.

Danielle Fishel (8:19)

Does it ever get into your head? Like, have you ever had that moment of, like, oh, so and so's here?

AJ McLean (8:25)

No, but I've definitely geeked out for some of the people. Like, Elizabeth Banks came. I fre.

Yeah. And like, full on geek out.

But once you're. Once you're on stage doing the show, it doesn't matter. Like, it doesn't.

But you. But what's funny is you get to, like, if you can find them, because, you know, it's like, where's Waldo? Unless you're wearing all black, everyone's in white, so you're trying to find out where their seats are, or they're like, if. If they're in a suite. And like, I finally found Elizabeth the other night during the show, and she was just having the time of her life, and I love that. That's cool. Same with Macaulay Culkin's wife. She was just.

How much is what you're feeling inside? Change from performing when you were like, 20 as to now, not really a lot.

It's. It's wild. You get up on stage and it feels very familiar. You, in your head are still 25, strapping, just killing it. And you don't realize until you get off stage and you get out of the car to go up to your hot room and your bones and muscles.

Danielle Fishel (9:33)

Everything'S a little achy.

Kevin Richardson (9:37)

I'm just lying to myself on stage. It's. You're in it, you know, you're in the. You're in the zone.

Will Friedle (9:42)

Wow.

Kevin Richardson (9:43)

Pretty much amazing. Yeah, it's cool. It's been a little renaissance. It's. It's pretty amazing. That's incredible. We're very fortunate. Not. Not everybody gets. Gets this opportunity.

Danielle Fishel (9:53)

You're right now many years removed from the millennium. When performing the show, have you noticed any songs that you feel like, have improved with time?

AJ McLean (10:04)

I don't know if they've necessarily improved, but there is a. There's quite a lot of songs in this set that we haven't done since 1999. And have a bit of a fresh take on it in the sense of a. We haven't done it in 25 years. And just kind of seeing the reaction, feeling the energy from doing certain songs like no one else comes close. The Perfect fan, you know, Spanish Eyes songs that we like. There's certain staples that we've kept in our tours over the years. The Margin of Life. Yeah.

Kevin Richardson (10:36)

They keep the hits in. Right. But we're doing a lot of Millennium album.

AJ McLean (10:40)

Yeah.

Kevin Richardson (10:41)

This time.

Danielle Fishel (10:41)

Oh, I love it.

Along with most of our greatest hits. So we do a little medley of deep cuts off the Millennium album that weren't hits.

That we really haven't performed in 25 years.

And that. That's like, to me, that's probably one of my personal favorite parts of the show because it is. It's a very stripped down moment. It's a very, like Motown doo wop feel that's happening. And I don't know, it's just a really, like, you really get to connect during this little section in the show. And then we have our. Our new single, our new song. Hey. Which we get to do in the show as well. Which is. It's a really cool moment, you know, like, because it wasn't like pushed as a radio single type thing. It was. If you pre order the album, you got the single. But to still see everyone singing along and loving the song. It's a beautiful song. It was supposed to make it on the DNA record. It sadly did not. Because we were under the gun to get the song.

Kevin Richardson (11:38)

You know, just the album.

Danielle Fishel (11:40)

Yeah.

Yeah.

But it wasn't meant to be on this album. It definitely found a re release.

AJ McLean (11:45)

It found. It definitely found a home.

If you two could go back and tell your TRL selves. One piece of advice. Knowing everything that's come since, what would you tell yourselves?

Kevin Richardson (12:02)

I'd probably say, relax. Go with the flow. Enjoy it.

Danielle Fishel (12:07)

Yeah.

Kevin Richardson (12:08)

Because I was always like, all right, when's the bottom gonna fall out? Kind of mentality.

AJ McLean (12:13)

Yeah.

Kevin Richardson (12:13)

And with age, I've gotten rid of that, thankfully.

Danielle Fishel (12:17)

Oh, so good.

Kevin Richardson (12:18)

But, yeah, so. And I was the oldest and I was always like. I felt like I was responsible for the other guys a lot.

Danielle Fishel (12:25)

The planner, the organizer, keeping us on track.

Kevin Richardson (12:27)

I don't know. Just keeping the train on the tracks and, you know, when fame hits and it hits big and you're young, stuff can go off the rails.

Danielle Fishel (12:36)

Yeah.

Kevin Richardson (12:38)

And I'd done a lot of living before I joined the group. So, I don't know. I just tell myself, relax, enjoy the moment. It's going to be okay.

AJ McLean (12:46)

I was definitely. The stuff that went off the rails, that was me. I was. Yeah. But we're back on the tracks, and we're moving forward, steady, so we're good. But I was definitely the. Yeah.

Danielle Fishel (12:57)

So what would you tell your young self back then?

AJ McLean (13:00)

Breathe. Yeah, breathe. Because, you know, I put on a smile. I put on a happy face. But for me personally, there was a lot of inner turmoil, and there's a lot of things going on in my head because it really was this, like, whirlwind moment.

Danielle Fishel (13:14)

Yeah.

AJ McLean (13:15)

You know, people thought it was an overnight thing for us, but we had already had an. Well, two albums prior to. Technically, two albums prior to the millennium album. Yeah. But millennium is when, like, the roof blew off and it was pandemonium. And to really go back and breathe and, like, take it in and really appreciate it and smile more inward. I think that's what I would do or tell myself.

Danielle Fishel (13:45)

Yeah.

AJ McLean (13:45)

You know, because you put on the happy face. You put on everything, and you're. You're just, like. You're in go mode. You're in this machine mode. Like, you're. There's no stopping, you know? We literally went nine, almost 10 years straight. And after Black and Blue, we had to take a break. Like, we had to. We would have fizzled out if we didn't take a break. And we took, like, almost a year and a half off before we made the next record. We had to do that.

Danielle Fishel (14:11)

Yeah.

AJ McLean (14:11)

For our sanity, for our health and for your families. For our families. For our brotherhood, you know?

Will Friedle (14:16)

So, yeah, I'm so curious because we. We did POD Meets World Live. We did three in a row once and wanted to die. So how do you do it? How do you do show after show after show? Physically, mentally? I mean, what. What do you have to do to prepare for something like that?

Kevin Richardson (14:33)

I mean, this. This beats being on the road, because typically, if you're on the road, sometimes you'll do two nights in one spot, sometimes three nights. But most times, you're either getting on a tour bus.

Danielle Fishel (14:43)

Oh, yeah.

Kevin Richardson (14:44)

Or you're going back to the hotel, getting on a flight or getting on a plane. And that, to me, is more physically mentally exhausting than doing a show, going back to the hotel.

AJ McLean (14:53)

Right.

Kevin Richardson (14:54)

You know.

Danielle Fishel (14:54)

Yeah.

AJ McLean (14:54)

Right.

Kevin Richardson (14:55)

This is. I love it because we can commute. AJ And I are West Coasters. We commute back and forth to L. A. So I go Home on Mondays. I come back, flew in a couple hours ago.

AJ McLean (15:06)

And you're in an international hub. If you think about it, like, you know, the amount of people that come through Vegas daily, they're from all over the world, so. And we are fortunate enough to have fans from all over the world, so staying in one place is easier on the body, easier on the mind.

Kevin Richardson (15:22)

Yeah.

AJ McLean (15:23)

And, you know, you're not. It's, you know, whether you're at the hotel or you're renting a house or you live here. Like Nick. Nick's been living here since 2017, you know, so after the show, he gets to go home. Right. You know what I mean? So it's.

Kevin Richardson (15:36)

I will say after the third show, though, my knees.

AJ McLean (15:38)

Dude. Yeah, I'm right there with him. Yeah. I mean, him and I have. He. He had knee surgery. I've been. Have. I've had both my knees done and.

Danielle Fishel (15:49)

Oh, my gosh.

Kevin Richardson (15:50)

I tore my ACL two days before my wedding in 2000, riding dirt bikes with my buddies back in Kentucky.

Danielle Fishel (15:56)

Oh, my gosh.

I mean, so it's.

It is a lot of wear.

Kevin Richardson (16:00)

My ACL is good. It's just my meniscus now.

AJ McLean (16:02)

It's a lot of wear and tear. I have a torn rotator cuff right now as we speak. But it's like, the show must go. You gotta do what you got to do. You make it. You make it work.

Kevin Richardson (16:10)

But he's gonna get surgery in October.

AJ McLean (16:13)

Okay. Surgery or stem cell. Whatever comes first. Well, I just want to get it sorted. But I will say we are like athletes. Yes.

Will Friedle (16:20)

Danielle Fishel (16:22)

Are you getting cortisone injections?

AJ McLean (16:24)

I don't really know. I'm. I. I have a consultation on Tuesday to see. I'm trying to avoid surgery if I can, but if I have to, I have to. Actually, I just talked. Aoki came to our show last this. This past weekend. Yeah. He did both the shots and the surgery. So I'm like, all right, well, whatever I have to do to get it done to be back 100, you know?

Danielle Fishel (16:44)

Yeah.

AJ McLean (16:44)

But it happens. What are you gonna do, you know?

Danielle Fishel (16:47)

Well, I know your fans appreciate it because they keep selling out your shows over and over as we talked at the very beginning. Have just been added to your sphere. Residency December 26th through the 28th, the 30th and the 31st, meaning New Year's Eve and January 2nd and 3rd. Are you guys looking forward to spending New Year's Eve on stage?

Kevin Richardson (17:09)

Yeah, that'll be cool.

That is cool. Yeah. We've only done that a couple of times in our career where we've actually been on stage and like rang in the new year with our, you know, fans. So to be able to.
