This is Buzz Knight from Taking a Walk. Lexus believes in the importance of standards. One of my standards I never want to be late. I always want to show up on time. For Lexus, the standard is simple experience. Amazing. Their benchmarks aren't stats or specs, they're feelings. Exhilaration, joy. That sense your car was designed just for you. Machines built to make you feel more human. Because a car that doesn't make you feel something is a car that stops short of amazing experience. Amazing at your Lexus dealer.
Danielle Fishel
Welcome back to Danielle with the Stars. I am Danielle Fishel, your podcast host, but also a TV director, a mom of two, and a former actress who the world knows as Topanga. And in the same way that Al Yankovic is Weird Al. But nowadays, I am solely responding to the title of Ballroom Dancer because I am competing on the 34th season of Dancing with the Stars. And while I practice for multiple hours a day, seven days a week, I'm still recording this show all about my experience, in hopes that a young girl might be listening and she learns that she too, can be an ABC Family sitcom star and then 30 years later, participate in a reality competition show. And yes, I'm using this podcast to levy an advantage and to search for the tricks of the trade by talking to Pros, former contestants, and even some of my peers. Because you can't spell. Experience without peer.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
Sort of.
Danielle Fishel
And today I am chatting with the two members of my Dancing with the Stars alliance, lovingly called dylaniella and Pasha. You're the Ying to our Yang, my no prior dance experience pal, and the beloved life partner to my pro. And as of this interview, they hold the season's highest score, clocking four nines on dedication night, steadily climbing a mountain at a pace almost no one saw coming. But I did, and that's why we are aligned. So please, here is the winner of last season's Traders, and she is an Emmy nominated Blackpool and mirrorball trophy champion. Welcome Dylan Efron and Daniella Carrago.
Daniella Carrasco
What an entrance.
Dylan Efron
Like, can you. Have you done audiobooks? Like, I would listen to any audiobook that you could write.
Sophia Bush
Record.
Danielle Fishel
Great idea. I have not.
Dylan Efron
But when you read a book, you.
Daniella Carrasco
Know who to go.
Dylan Efron
I know who I'm tapping.
Danielle Fishel
Well, guys, we did it. We have tried many a times to make this happen, but here we are, we're podcasting.
Dylan Efron
That means this is a good week because that means we have an hour to spare.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, that's true.
Dylan Efron
I.
Danielle Fishel
We. When I have tried to explain to people, when people text to even just say, hi, how are you doing? I don't really quite know how to explain to them what this schedule demands of you if you're gonna take it very seriously, which you and I both are.
Dylan Efron
Yeah, it's a lot. And especially when you see it on. On the tv, it's like one dance in a package that looks like 30 seconds or whatever. But those packages you're filming every day for hours, and then you have like 10 interviews and then you have life. It's. It's just like. And fittings and multiple fittings, multiple rehearsals and blogging.
Danielle Fishel
You haven't even mentioned self care. Like the doctor's appointment. I know, like red light therapy.
Dylan Efron
I woke up with a stiff neck today. I was like, oh, my God. Exactly. I can't dance.
Danielle Fishel
What am I gonna do? Well, Dylan, I wanted to first talk to you about your decision to join Dancing with the Stars because I think you would agree that you are a pretty reserved person. You have avoided the spotlight for most of your life, and yet here you are on arguably the most difficult and vulnerable show on television. So what was the process like for you, deciding to say yes?
Dylan Efron
Yeah, it wasn't an immediate yes.
Daniella Carrasco
Okay.
Dylan Efron
So.
Danielle Fishel
Took some time.
Dylan Efron
Yeah. So I did Traitors and after Traders, like, luckily I did pretty well.
Danielle Fishel
And winning is doing pretty well.
Dylan Efron
Yeah. So then I, like, proved myself that I could do it, but then it was like, okay, what am I going to do next? And there was some interest. And then I kept hearing Dancing with the Stars, and my initial instinct was just like, there is no chance I would do that. So then I think, yeah, I was always in the back of my mind, like, would I actually? And I was just like, no, there's no chance. So then the turning point was Dina invited me. Dina is the casting director. She also casted traitors. She asked me to lunch, and I had lunch with her, and I heard her perspective of it, how it's a big family, how it's really like proving to yourself you can do something that you thought you couldn't. And all this, all these things that I've promoted on social media for the last 10 years, those things that are out of your comfort zone are the best things in life when you really.
Danielle Fishel
Are pushing yourself, used your own messages against you.
Dylan Efron
So then I'm like, wow, I am being a hypocrite. Like, I want to do something that's comfortable to me. Strategy traders type thing. This is so uncomfortable. Maybe I should embrace it. And, yeah, I'm very happy I did. But it was not like I've been dreaming to be on the show. It's literally the opposite. It was like, until about. Until that dinner, I thought I would never do the show.
Danielle Fishel
Okay, really smart. She knows what she's doing. She's no dummy. She's done this before. So I know my younger brother Chris, has often talked about what it's like to be the sibling of a famous person. And I never really feel great when I hear it. My brother tells stories of us going to dinner for his birthday, and then people lining up at the table to ask for my autograph and to take pictures with me. And I just always feel like, man, that must have not always felt great. But you seem to have had a really good attitude about it. And, I mean, now you're nominated for people's sexiest man. So what were your feelings growing up as Zach's brother?
Dylan Efron
Yeah, I have a weird perspective on it because I always looked up to him. He's my big brother. So he was four and a half years older than me.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Dylan Efron
So, like, when I'm 12, he's 16 and, like, getting fit. And so I thought he was the strongest person ever. Like, he had muscles. I always thought he could beat up anyone. And then he goes on stage and was always the star in every play. Like, he could sing, you could dance. So I always just looked up to him, and then it just kind of was natural that, like, everybody else started looking up to him.
Danielle Fishel
Right.
Dylan Efron
So it was like, it never felt weird, if any. Like, I always just felt grateful that for him. And then it was so cool to be a part of it. Like, I get to go to some of his premieres, and, like, he always invited me to travel, and, like, I started traveling at a young age and fell in love with it. And it was just like, I'm so grateful he had that experience, and then I was happy to be part of it.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah. It seems like in a pleasant way, it helped shape some of the ideals that you now have for your own life. I think about that with my own two kids. Adler is only two years older than his brother Keaton, but when we had Keaton, the first thing I said was, I'm so excited that Adler's gonna have a little brother who's gonna look up to him and think he's a God, because Adler deserves that. And it sounds like that was a similar thing for you, that, like, Zack was the coolest and you just got to look up to him every.
Dylan Efron
Absolutely.
Danielle Fishel
So, Daniella, your Dancing with the Stars record is truly impressive. 3.
Daniella Carrasco
We don't have to talk about it.
Danielle Fishel
Oh, no. Oh, no, we. We do. Three top three finishes in just five seasons. One of those, a championship. And you won that trophy with someone who did not have any prior dance experience. And now you're excelling again with the same setup. What do you say to fans who think pros need ringers in order to compete?
Daniella Carrasco
I've never had one, so just based off of experience, I love the whole process of watching someone with no dance experience truly learn the craft and the art of it. And in the end, first of all, build their confidence in it and also just shine, because I feel like the whole season, it's about that. It's about you growing not only as a dancer, but as a person, too. You're trying to get through these challenges with another human being. I mean, you're used to doing this on your own, and to do this with another person is a whole other animal.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Daniella Carrasco
So you build trust. You build your connection. Trust in terms of not even just the dance, but, like, emotionally.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Daniella Carrasco
But physically, too. Like, when you're tired and the last thing you want to do is dance and get up and work hard. You know, it's. It takes two people to kind of work together to get through it.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Daniella Carrasco
So I love the process of the Whole thing of you not knowing how to do this and then all of a sudden shining in your own light and becoming this dancer.
Danielle Fishel
When you first started, did you notice? Because one of the things to me, that's the just still crazy. And I know we're only. This is week six. We're only six weeks into it, but, like, it's shocking to me how day one, you're like, I will never get there. Day two, you're like, nope, I'm still never gonna get there. And day three, you're like, oh, my gosh. I think I'm finally starting to maybe understand this. And then by the time you're doing the show, you're like, yeah, I feel pretty good about this.
Daniella Carrasco
I'm doing it.
Danielle Fishel
I'm doing it. And it's not as hard as it was just even five days ago when you first started. There's no guidebook or rule book or teacher handbook. When you first started doing this, did you have to learn to trust the process, too, or did you just expect that that's what it was going to be like because you've been a dancer your whole life?
Daniella Carrasco
No, I definitely, my first season experienced learning how to be patient.
Danielle Fishel
Okay.
Daniella Carrasco
That is something I was never good at. And teaching kids obviously taught me patience. But also with another person who is older or my age, whatever. It is, like, trusting a partner is one thing, but also having patience to keep reminding yourself that this person has never danced before. And, like, for you to just be like, well, straighten your leg already, they don't. They don't know what to do, you know? So it takes a lot of patience and understanding of how to kind of, you know, have them develop. But I've been doing this for so long. For me, it's kind of like second nature that I've been teaching kids and adults for, I don't know, over 10 years before the show. So.
Danielle Fishel
Right.
Daniella Carrasco
I have a certain method that I go by, and I think ballroom dancing is one of those really technical, heavy styles that if you have done it in the past and you've known the ins and out of it, it's much easier because you do have a technique book. There is an actual fundamental book that kind of guides you through it, and if you know it, you kind of know the easy fixes. So that truly helped me with the whole Dancing with the Stars process of how to, like, break things down for someone who's never done it before, great. But it's hard. It's definitely hard because every season is a new person and every new Person is so different from the other. And sometimes one person takes critique. Great. The other person can't have any critique. And you're finding ways to not only be a teacher, but a therapist and like, finding ways to make them still feel good.
Dylan Efron
But.
Danielle Fishel
Is that you, Dylan?
Daniella Carrasco
Are you.
Danielle Fishel
Does she need to be a therapist?
Dylan Efron
It sounded like it the way she.
Daniella Carrasco
Said it, but I'm not talking about you. I'm talking about my past experiences. Actually. You're one of the easiest person people I've ever dealt. Dealt with on the show, truly. Because he wants to do this properly and he doesn't want to just do it the easy way.
Danielle Fishel
He's a self starter.
Buzz Knight
Yeah.
Daniella Carrasco
He just wants to do it to his best ability. And that's all I could ask for.
Dylan Efron
I will. It is like thinking back to our first few days. I'm sure you felt the same, but that feeling that we'll never get there.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Dylan Efron
I do think Dani was really good about, like, I'm telling you, when I first started, it was bad. So, like, I. I would see how she even arm movements, like finishing an arm, and I'd do it like a little bit, but she would be like, oh, okay, you're gonna be good at at this dance. And like, she would. She could see things that I obviously wasn't seeing when I looked in the mirror. But she was like, very quick to be like, oh, okay, this is gonna be good for you. Like, oh, I can work with that. And like, she'd find these. Like, to me, it was like a two out of a ten. And she'd be like, that can get to an eight. So it's cool to like, she had faith in me before I had faith in me.
Danielle Fishel
Aw.
Daniella Carrasco
This is a therapist.
Danielle Fishel
That's why I do this podcast. Little team building activity. Dylan, tell me what Daniella's best trait as a partner is.
Daniella Carrasco
What is happening?
Dylan Efron
Best trait as a partner. I know single best.
Danielle Fishel
I'm coming to you next, so you better start thinking about what his best trait is. So.
Dylan Efron
I think it's. It's when I'm thinking of like the single thing it would be, I think it's honestly that I have so much trust and confidence in her. Like, I know that she's not only one of the best choreographers, but, like, she's going to, like, she's going to work her off until it's to a good spot. So, like, for me, it's a. I know that I'm not. I'm not going to waste time doing something that isn't Going to work or something. It's like, I think that truly is the feeling is like, I know what she's going to give me is going to work, so I have to do my best to do it. And, like, I just have confidence in her. I think that's the best part of the relationship. That answered it.
Danielle Fishel
I totally know what you mean. It's like, you obviously, the thing I love so much about you is that you are so very clearly just a hard worker without somebody needing to tell you it's going to be hard. It's like you are willing to put in every single second necessary to be the best you can be. And the good thing is you already know she's exactly the same way. So you're not working with someone that you're like, I need you to push me more. I need you to challenge me more. Like, you don't you get that's saving so much time just knowing you have the same work ethic. It's a great partnership for sure.
Daniella Carrasco
And that's exactly what my favorite thing is, is that I don't have to pull teeth for him to be here. He wants to be here, but also because he's so committed into this process, it makes it so much easier for me to be like, okay, we need an extra hour. Like, do you think we can do an extra hour somewhere? Like, just to solidify this? And he's like, yep, great. You know, so it's not like, oh, do you think we can work harder here? And him just being like, no, I know I'm done.
Danielle Fishel
I'm tired.
Daniella Carrasco
And I've had that in the past where we have four hour rehearsals and we're done after two, and they're like, oh, I'm done. So I've worked with many, many people and very different people. And that's why, that's one of my favorite things, is because we're so similar.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Daniella Carrasco
In the, in the work ethic, it makes it so much easier. Yeah.
Dylan Efron
That's what makes it fun for me is like, when I see the choreo each week, like, she's putting in things, I'm like, are you kidding me? Like, how do you expect me to do that? But. But I love that she's not. She's not like, oh, he can't turn left, so I'm not going to do any laughs. Like, she never feels. I never feels like she's sacrificing what she wants to make me have an easier go at it. So I love the challenge of it.
Danielle Fishel
I love that.

Nyx Underwear Announcer
Yes.
Danielle Fishel
Dylan, you danced for and with your little sister Olivia. It was a contemporary to rewrite the stars. Did you both know going into that night that what you had was really special?
Daniella Carrasco
For me, looking back, it was like their moment. I wanted to make sure that they had their moment, and she was a star, you know? And for me, that was special, but I didn't realize how much of an impact our actual dance was to many people, which to me, when I'm choreographing, I'm not thinking about anybody but him, making him look good. So to hear that feedback, not only from the judges, but, like, from other people.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Daniella Carrasco
Was very meaningful. So it was really nice. But I. I don't know. For me, it was just going in. I just. I had you guys together, and for me, that was special.
Dylan Efron
Yeah. There was something to it where it was like, the first time that it didn't feel like we were trying. That I was trying to, like, perform. It was more like we, like, earned this moment with our family on stage and was like, let's do the best we can. And, like, it didn't feel like I was, like, taking a test and trying to get straight A's. It was like I was just out there enjoying this moment with Danny and Olivia, and I think maybe that's why it translated so I didn't know. I did not think we were going to get four nines, but I knew the music was powerful. I knew my sister was going to crush it. So I was like, as long as we go out there and do what we've done in practice, I think it's going to go well.
Daniella Carrasco
Like, I'm not doing another rehearsal without her. She needs to be here all the time.
Danielle Fishel
I do want to talk about the fact that you gifted her a little wishbone necklace from your jewelry line. Let's talk about your jewelry line for a second because it's stunning and amazing. Dainty by dk, Right? And you gifted her that little wishbone necklace. And that night, after the performance, I saw her standing around. She came to say hi, and she was just holding. She's just holding and playing with her little necklace. It was so sweet. Tell me about your jewelry line because you are a jewelry girly like I am. When did you start this?
Daniella Carrasco
I started it because I have. This is so stupid, but I have an allergic reaction to, like, coated things like gold plated. So I would get, like, rashes from jewelry. And growing up, like, I didn't have the means to own real things, you know? So my mom worked three jobs for me to have one dance lesson a week. So it wasn't like I would go and ask for gold jewelry, you know?
Danielle Fishel
Right.
Daniella Carrasco
And I always said that if I had, like, if I had the potential to ever start my own business, that would be like, my first thing and go to. And my best friend's dad is a jeweler, and my best friend just got married recently to a guy who we've been teaching for so long. Pasha and I. Yeah. And we just all became really best friends. And he was like, do you want to just start something? Because, you know, your Emily has her dad's business and she can definitely, like, hook you up with a factory. I was like, yeah, yeah. And that's something I've dreamt of my whole life. I love designing and just making things that are not too, like, overpriced for other people who have the same thing I did. And that was a big thing for me, is just creating jewelry that was dainty like me, but also affordable for people who need it or can't, like, afford crazy high end jewelry. So that was my biggest thing, fine.
Danielle Fishel
Jewelry for people who don't have massive budgets. I.
Daniella Carrasco
But it's all real for.
Danielle Fishel
Exactly.
Daniella Carrasco
Diamonds.
Ryan Seacrest
It's fine.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
That's what I mean.
Danielle Fishel
Fine jewelry.
Dylan Efron
It's like very, like, when I put it next to any other gold jewelry I have, it's like, so shiny compared to it.
Danielle Fishel
So I got Dylan one.
Dylan Efron
Yeah, I'm wearing it.
Danielle Fishel
Oh, look at you with the paperclip necklace. I like it. So you guys started off the season with Milkshake and Macarena, two songs that do not scream ballroom. Were either of you nervous starting off with two sort of comical tracks?
Dylan Efron
Definitely. So the strategy in that, since we're in an alliance was that, like, I knew that I'd never danced in my life before, so what can I do to. And performed again, like, holding a mic was the first time I did it was after traders. They gave me a mic to, like, stand at a panel, and I'm just like, oh, yeah, I'm still that way. So then I knew I just had to go out there and almost, like, just be funny. Like, put on a show in a goofy way how I am. So we chose Milkshake. I think it was like our, like.
Daniella Carrasco
You chose Milkshake and you told me that.
Dylan Efron
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I had, like. I had, like, a pussycat doll song I kind of wanted to do.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
Don't you?
Dylan Efron
Yeah, I think. But then it had been done before or something. So then Milkshake was the one. I didn't know it was a cha cha.
Daniella Carrasco
And then after he chose it, it went viral.
Dylan Efron
Oh, yeah.
Daniella Carrasco
Be kidding me.
Danielle Fishel
Yep. Before you guys performed it, right? It went. Because it was in a commercial. And so then the song was like, back in the zeitgeist. And now you're performing your first week on Dancing with the Stars to it. And then to Macarena. Who picked Macarena?
Daniella Carrasco
Also Dylan.
Dylan Efron
All the good ones for me, of course. Who picked I'm not that Girl.
Daniella Carrasco
I did not pick that. I did not pick that. We were given that song. I was meaning not to.
Dylan Efron
Which our song this week is I'm not that Girl. And, like, everything online's like, God, of course Dylan would choose this. I'm like, what are you talking about?
Daniella Carrasco
Chose Milkshake.
Danielle Fishel
Oh, my gosh. And then for week three, for TikTok night, you danced to UConn by Justin Bieber, who the world learned is a friend of Dylan Efron. Tell me how that friendship got started. And have you guys ever, like, gone to play mini golf or, like.
Dylan Efron
No. It was a little bit of classic reality. Like, we're not best friends, so, like, we are friendly. We have a lot of mutual friends. So I've had some really cool experiences.
Danielle Fishel
With Justin, but has he reached out to you since that night to be like, hey, bro?
Nyx Underwear Announcer
No.
Dylan Efron
But our mutual friends were cracking up about it.
Danielle Fishel
Okay, good. I like that story. We have passed each other on our ways in and out of the PT office.
Dylan Efron
Oh, yeah.
Danielle Fishel
How is your body holding up?
Dylan Efron
Gina's in our alliance too. It's good. This. It changes every week. So, like, this last week, we had the overhead press and stuff, so it was like my upper body was really sore and my neck.
Danielle Fishel
Yep.
Dylan Efron
And then you just were on, like, two very foxtrot and quick step or quick step and jive.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Dylan Efron
Which is like, those just, like, kill your calves and Achilles. So it is nice that we're switching each week and we don't have to keep, like. I don't know. It gives you a chance to get something.
Danielle Fishel
Gives you a chance to hurt another part of your body.
Dylan Efron
Exactly.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah. It's a rotating.
Ryan Seacrest
But it's scary.
Dylan Efron
It's like. Like, I woke up today with a stiff neck, and it's like, that's something that's, like, in my Neck, not a muscle.
Daniella Carrasco
That's from sleeping, though. That's not from the routine.
Dylan Efron
But, like, that's the biggest fear is, like, I've had those before where I can't move my. I literally can't move my head for a week. And if that happens, it's like, what do we.
Danielle Fishel
Do you have an acupuncturist?
Dylan Efron
No.
Danielle Fishel
Okay. I have the best acupuncturist. I can give you her number and she's close by. Yeah.
Dylan Efron
Oh, I'm so down.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, she's. Yeah, I'll give you her information, but she will get you fixed up.
Dylan Efron
Okay.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
Okay.
Danielle Fishel
I also have a great chiropractor, but I don't know how you feel about chiropractors right now.
Dylan Efron
I don't want anyone to. Exactly. Because it is so gentle.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
And she.
Danielle Fishel
She will. She will get you. Right. And then I know, obviously Dusty would be good for him too. Okay. Danielle, as you know, I am completely obsessed with you.
Daniella Carrasco
I'm like, me, You.
Danielle Fishel
Yes, yes.
Daniella Carrasco
Biggest compliment in my life.
Danielle Fishel
I often find myself just pulling up videos of you dancing and just watching them in my free time.
Daniella Carrasco
Now, can I please have this part of the podcast? Please?
Danielle Fishel
We'll cut this and send this to you. I'm completely obsessed with you. I hope you know you're never getting rid of me. Well, that means the world forever. Your dance with iman shumpert 5 on it is hands down of all the dances I've ever seen on Dancing with the Stars, my favorite dance.
Daniella Carrasco
Thank you.
Danielle Fishel
Can you please tell me where that idea came from?
Daniella Carrasco
Iman? Really?
Dylan Efron
You didn't like that song choice, did you?
Daniella Carrasco
I loved it.
Dylan Efron
Oh, no, you had a different song. Nevermind, I'm muddling it.
Daniella Carrasco
Which one?
Danielle Fishel
Don't mix your stories, Dylan.
Dylan Efron
There is a song. Oh, with Dwight that you didn't like. No, no, no. Someone else.
Daniella Carrasco
It was Greece. It was Grease night with Iman that I didn't like.
Danielle Fishel
Oh.
Daniella Carrasco
Because I didn't like, like. Never mind.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
Okay.
Daniella Carrasco
Dancing to musicals, Right?
Danielle Fishel
Okay, here we are.
Daniella Carrasco
Wicked Week. That dance. He was like, okay, it's horror night. And he's like, I love this one movie. And he's like, you have to see it. So. Watched it. Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
Jordan peels us, right?
Daniella Carrasco
No idea. Yeah. Yes, I guess. Yep, yep.
Dylan Efron
It's really hard to get her to watch movies. She hasn't watched Wicked. I have barely watched Greatest Showman. She doesn't watch the Traders.
Daniella Carrasco
What do you mean? I've watched Greater Showman.
Dylan Efron
Barely.
Daniella Carrasco
No, I watched it on a podcast. I was Invested.
Dylan Efron
You watched it like, a month ago.
Daniella Carrasco
I. It was invested once we heard she hasn't lost cars. I haven't watched cars yet. I should probably watch all these. I'll watch Traders first, and then we'll go from there. But, yeah, he's like, watch this movie. And I watched it, and I was like, okay, this is actually amazing because the way they move in the movie and they're also, like, crazy. It helped me choreograph it actually better, because I was like, what am I gonna do with this movie? I have no idea. He's like, when you watch it, you'll see how they move. And that's exactly what happened. And that just gave me all the inspiration, because Lupita, from the actress in the movie, she. She's unreal, first of all. But the way they move and they're so, like, the. The tethered, like, it was insane. So I tried to kind of replicate their movement.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
Okay.
Daniella Carrasco
In the dance, which helped me so much choreographically. And then he was so tall. He was six, seven, and I'm short.
Danielle Fishel
You are? Yeah. You are one inch taller than me. Five two, right?
Daniella Carrasco
I'm five three.
Danielle Fishel
Five three. Oh, gosh.
Daniella Carrasco
The doctor says I'm five four.
Danielle Fishel
Okay.
Daniella Carrasco
Okay.
Danielle Fishel
I'm sorry. I don't know why I was thinking one inch. You're two full inches taller than me.
Daniella Carrasco
Okay, maybe one inch. But, yeah, he was so tall that for me, it was much easier doing lifts and trusting. The height difference was nice because I knew that, first of all, he's a basketball player, so I did not expect.
Danielle Fishel
You to say the height difference was nice.
Daniella Carrasco
It was. It was nice because of the lift for the lifts, because the proportions were easier for them for, like, someone who's closer in height. So for him, I probably weighed nothing, and he could just throw me up and down. But that's exactly what we did. I took some lifts that I've seen, like, in the ballroom industry before, but we obviously tweaked them into our own way and made them a little bit more dangerous.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Daniella Carrasco
And tried to stand on his shoulders. It worked. So it's like, okay, I guess we're putting this into the routine.
Danielle Fishel
Unbelievable. I saw some of that practice, some of those practices of you trying to get up on his shoulders.
Daniella Carrasco
Insane. But he was one person I could trust my whole life with because he just. He was the best dad. He threw his kids around all the time. So I saw videos of him doing that, and I was like, okay. I think it. We're. Me and his Kids were probably the same exact height. They're like five years old. So probably the same height, same proportions. But he is just like someone I know that I could throw myself with. And he would just.
Danielle Fishel
And he would always catch you.
Daniella Carrasco
And that's what we did. And I don't know. That's just how it came about.
Dylan Efron
That one lift where. The one. Where was it like, back to back or something like that, where he just chucks you around.
Danielle Fishel
Unbelievable. Like a little backpack.
Dylan Efron
He literally does just chuck you.
Daniella Carrasco
He does a little back. He did chuck me.
Dylan Efron
He takes a full stride forward, chucks you. And some of you just latch on. That looks so dangerous.
Danielle Fishel
I know. It's just an unbelievable routine. You are also known for a strong Halloween routine. So what can we expect from you two this year?
Daniella Carrasco
I'm actually excited. Cause I've never done the dance style we're doing this time around ever. On Halloween.
Danielle Fishel
Really ever.
Daniella Carrasco
Because I usually do contemporaries on Halloween.
Danielle Fishel
Okay.
Daniella Carrasco
I mean, yeah, I did, like, three contemporaries on the show out of, like, five seasons. So this is definitely very different for me, which I'm excited about, because I feel like.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
Are you doing.
Danielle Fishel
Are we. We're probably not allowed to say yet.
Daniella Carrasco
Probably not.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
Okay.
Danielle Fishel
All right. But you've never done it before. Oh, exciting. And you. But I know he's gonna be good.
Daniella Carrasco
Yeah.
Dylan Efron
I heard the music, and it can be good. Like, I'm excited for it.
Danielle Fishel
Oh, I can't wait. I'm so excited. Are you a Halloween guy normally, Dylan?
Dylan Efron
A little bit, yeah.
Daniella Carrasco
Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
I don't know.
Dylan Efron
I was. I don't know.
Danielle Fishel
Is Olivia into Halloween?
Dylan Efron
Yeah, they are.
Danielle Fishel
Okay. Because I'll say I was not. I could take or leave Halloween until I had kids. And then my kids were so into Halloween that now I'm like, oh, you're right. This is amazing. Like, because you see it through their eyes, and it's so fun. And, like. Like, now I love Halloween, but I.
Dylan Efron
Totally see that because, like. Yeah, I always think about this with my dad. My dad would, like, hand make our costumes. So, like, when Zach and I were kids, we were like the Mortal Kombat, the one that, like, had the snake come out and stuff. He, like, stitched all that. And, like. Yeah. He was insane. He's like a handyman.
Ryan Seacrest
He would sew them.
Dylan Efron
He would sew all of our Halloween outfits. So we went hard for Halloween till I was, like, 10, and then I became.
Danielle Fishel
Too cool.
Dylan Efron
Yeah. Too cool.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah. Yeah. Then you're like, my T shirt.
Dylan Efron
I still want the candy, but I'm not gonna dress.
Danielle Fishel
I'm not gonna like that.
Daniella Carrasco
Doing without costume.
Danielle Fishel
What a Universal Experience Being 10 is. You know, it's just like we're all the same at that age. My aunt also made all of my cousins Halloween costumes by scratch. And I don't have. I can't sew to save my. I. I guess. I don't know. It's like dance. I. Yeah, I didn't think I could do that six weeks ago, but maybe I just dance. All right, we can pitch it.
Dylan Efron
You and me.
Danielle Fishel
We'll start with making Halloween costumes.
Daniella Carrasco
Project Runway, basically.
Danielle Fishel
Daniella, this one might be a tough question. Who is one celebrity over the past five seasons?
Daniella Carrasco
I probably will not tell you.
Danielle Fishel
That was not your partner.
Daniella Carrasco
Oh.
Danielle Fishel
That if they were going to do a All Star season again, that you would want to be a partner with.
Daniella Carrasco
Ooh. Okay. Either. Can I say, like, three?
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, sure.
Daniella Carrasco
Corbin Blue.
Danielle Fishel
Okay.
Daniella Carrasco
He was insane. Jordan Fisher.
Danielle Fishel
Okay. Great.
Daniella Carrasco
Or Milo.
Danielle Fishel
Milo Mannheim. We're a big Zombies family in our house, so I'm a big Milo Manheim fan.
Daniella Carrasco
Yeah, yeah. Very talented. 3 likes. Just talent through the roof.
Danielle Fishel
Okay, those. Those are good.
Liberty Mutual Announcer

The standard Lexus set for themselves is to experience amazing. Lexus measures success by the feeling and emotions evoked in a driver, like exhilaration and joy. Amazing can only be achieved by knowing people on a deeper level. The standard of amazing results in a feeling in drivers that their car was built in anticipation of them. Danielle Fishel
Now, as an alliance, one of our core values is eating together after tape nights. We all know this. It is part of the creed we took during initiation, as you know. First, Dylan, can we please talk about how Pasha and Daniela seem to be able to eat?
Dylan Efron
Oh my gosh.
Danielle Fishel
And Danielle, Buckets. Yeah, me too. But here's the difference. I look like I consume.
Dylan Efron
No, you don't.
Danielle Fishel
I don't know. I don't know how the two of them can eat as much as they do a wide variety of things. And yet both of them are two of the most in shape people I've ever met in my life.
Dylan Efron
Courtney and I like analyzed it after this last one. We're like, if you watch closely, Pasha ate the most.
Daniella Carrasco
No.
Dylan Efron
Yeah, yeah. But then we were analyzing.
Danielle Fishel
Pasha ate the most.
Dylan Efron
He ate the most. The sushi just didn't stop. But the two of you. And the dessert comes out. Oh my. Like the desserts. You guys could eat so much of so many desserts.
Danielle Fishel
Even once we think we, we don't like, we like them.
Dylan Efron
Pasha literally, like has like a bite perfectly made and you were like, oh. And just snagged it from him.
Danielle Fishel
That was one of my favorite moments. He like takes his time cutting the perfect bite. The Right ratio of ice cream to pear crepe. And literally, Danielle just goes, ah.
Dylan Efron
Who left that there?
Daniella Carrasco
This is too perfect. This is, like, the perfect piece. He just, like, spent 10 minutes putting it for himself.
Danielle Fishel
I was like, yeah, okay.
Daniella Carrasco
Yeah. Him and Courtney just, like, trying to, like, be nice to each other and like, no, this is for you. No, this is for you.
Danielle Fishel
They're so.
Daniella Carrasco
There's no time for that.
Danielle Fishel
I know. And they're really smart because it's usually about, like, 10pm they're like, we don't need to eat this much food at 10pm And.
Daniella Carrasco
Yeah, that's amazing.
Dylan Efron
I do. I'm such a snacker. I eat throughout, like, right before dinners. I'm eating the erewhon that we did on show day.
Danielle Fishel
You eat right before the performance or right before the light show.
Dylan Efron
I take advantage of that erewhon runner. I. I order, like, so many things, so I have so much food for, like, it, like, bleeds into the next day.
Danielle Fishel
Wait, what's your erewhon order on tape day? I need to know this because I've been eating that dog groceries.
Dylan Efron
I get, like, everything.
Danielle Fishel
Tell me. I need to know. I need. I want to know.
Dylan Efron
What do you.
Danielle Fishel
What have you ordered?
Dylan Efron
Yeah, like, I'm ordering, like, a side of steak, a side of salmon. I'm doing, like, the full plate. I'll get, like, my morning, like, breakfast burrito or whatever, but I'm literally ordering, like, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Daniella Carrasco
Is the breakfast burrito good from there?
Dylan Efron
It is. It's a little heavy for a Shoney, but I had the keto breakfast sandwich last night.
Daniella Carrasco
Of course you did.
Dylan Efron
That was pretty good.
Danielle Fishel
That one's good. It's not as heavy.
Dylan Efron
No, it was pretty heavy stuff.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
Okay.
Dylan Efron
And sometimes I just do the eggs with avocado.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We, Pasha and I eat the avocado toast that has. And then two over easy eggs and sometimes bacon.
Dylan Efron
You need to step up your order because, like, I'm getting, like, drinks, like, like, all these different types. Yeah. And then, like, green juices. I get a smoothie so much.
Danielle Fishel
What smoothie do you get?
Dylan Efron
The mint chocolate one with whey protein.
Danielle Fishel
That one's so good. Mint chocolate with whey protein. I'm gonna try that this week.
Dylan Efron
You gotta.
Danielle Fishel
Actually, the smoothie's a really good idea.
Daniella Carrasco
I. The keto guy.
Danielle Fishel
I last week ordered the avocado toast and two eggs. I had time to eat the two eggs, never had time to eat the avocado toast, and then didn't eat until we went to Sushi now you know.
Dylan Efron
What we need to do? So we need to go to Erewhon, not on show day. And, like, take photos of all the things that we want. Because, like, we can order dessert. You can order.
Danielle Fishel
Like, we can be there.
Dylan Efron
We don't know what's there. So, like, we need to go there. Like, I get these little drinks called kin, which are like. They're like. They're amazing, but they're like seven, eight bucks or something. I never buy them because they're like, just.
Ryan Seacrest
You're frugal.
Dylan Efron
Four ounces.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, but on Dancing with the Stars runner day.
Dylan Efron
Exactly.
Daniella Carrasco
Podcast comes out and they're like, actually, Dylan, we can no longer support your air runs. Like 711 runs.
Dylan Efron
Like, what do you want from Trader Joe's?
Danielle Fishel
I also like your dedication to spending as much time and effort into the Erewhon order. Let's find a day. Go to Erewhon, Take the pictures as you do the dances. Like, you really just like to commit. You commit to everything you do, which is just one of the things I love about you.
Daniella Carrasco
Ewan.
Danielle Fishel
Strategy is crazy. You are also famously outdoorsy. And so let's say we all end up on this little Dancing with the Stars tour they speak of. Could we have an alliance camping night?
Daniella Carrasco
That was so much fun. How about just you and Dylan, when you're out camping in like 30 degree weather, it ain't cute.
Dylan Efron
We could. There's like, close places around here. Like, we could go into the hills, like above San Bernardino. There's, like, really cute cabins up there. There's. But there's also like. I thought of that. Like, yeah, if we do tour, we need to go like, the Miami or the Florida spots, jet skis, and we have.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
If.
Danielle Fishel
If we do tour, can we make an alliance? Go into the same places?
Dylan Efron
Absolutely.
Danielle Fishel
Okay. I'm keeping the alliance game running. You're doing the whole tour, right?
Daniella Carrasco
I mean, we're getting that bus.
Danielle Fishel
I did lob the idea to my sons today. What if, when this is all over, we went on a Dancing with the Stars tour and we got to go to a bunch of different places? Which ones would you want to go to? And my son said all of them. And what if I was just like, that's it.
Daniella Carrasco
You said, I think you should. Honestly, if you guys have your own bus, we'll just join you.
Dylan Efron
That's what I was gonna say. We did. We. We need to go in and get, like, cool buses and we can, like.
Danielle Fishel
Just follow Dylan, Yella and Pasha bus.
Daniella Carrasco
I'm down. Yeah. And then all the kids.
Danielle Fishel
The kids could be together.
Daniella Carrasco
Be so fun. Can you take Olivia?
Dylan Efron
Olivia's on tour with us.
Danielle Fishel
You can take them.
Daniella Carrasco
I would die. I would. That would be so.
Danielle Fishel
That would be pretty amazing.
Daniella Carrasco
That would be really cool.
Danielle Fishel
All right, my final question for both of you. If each of you could give me one piece of advice moving forward with the rest of the competition, what would it be? Keep your eyes me.
Daniella Carrasco
Keep icing your body.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
Ice.
Danielle Fishel
Exactly. Don't fall apart.
Dylan Efron
One piece of advice for Dancing with the Stars.
Danielle Fishel
To be my best.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
You go first.
Danielle Fishel
That runs with the best.
Daniella Carrasco
Do whatever Pasha says because he knows his.
Danielle Fishel
I know. He really is.
Daniella Carrasco
He's the best.
Danielle Fishel
He really is the best. I don't know how he's so patient. Did he tell you about when I had a full blown meltdown in here?
Daniella Carrasco
Girl, he lives with me. He has to be patient. I'm so. Add that. Bless his heart. Like, I'm just all over the place. He's. He's like.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, he's a rock.
Daniella Carrasco
He's a rock for sure.
Dylan Efron
I know.
Danielle Fishel
Listen to podcast.
Dylan Efron
I know what it is too. You need to not be so hard on yourself when you, like, if you miss a step or something like that. Because I'm the same way. Where we're our harshest critics, but you own it out there. And if you make a stupid little mistake, like, that's not what people remember. Like, it's your personality, the way you connect with people. Like, you crush. Like, you're just that type of person where you'll crush 98% of the dance, but you'll think about that one step, of course. So, like, I think you're just so underestimating your connection. Like, when you're dancing, we all feel connected to you. When you're talking, it's like you're such a whole package that you can't. You can't focus. You can't be so hard on yourself.
Nyx Underwear Announcer
Thank you.
Dylan Efron
And that's what I'm telling myself all the time.
Danielle Fishel
Yes, exactly.
Dylan Efron
I see it with you because, like, you are an incredible dancer right now and, like, you're incredible in everything. So just like, embrace that and don't be so hard on yourself.
Danielle Fishel
Likewise. And we gotta keep up our self care. And our after dinners, those things go such a long way. Like, we don't. Other than our partners, which we also barely get to see. It's one of the reasons our little Tuesday night dinners mean so much to us. The trailer burger. Our trailer food.
Dylan Efron
Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
Sometimes we go out, sometimes we eat the trailer.
Daniella Carrasco
I Love the trailer.
Dylan Efron
Food.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, I like the trailer. It's. It's really nice, but it's one of the things that is we aren't getting a ton of social downtime, and. And that is such an important part of feeling recharged and refreshed to, like, keep going for another week. So I thank you both for your friendship, for our alliance, for being my forever friends, and thank you for being a part of this podcast. I'm rooting honored to be here forever, every single week. You have my votes.
Dylan Efron
I can't wait till Tuesday. I know. Me too. Not because of the show, because of the dinner.
Buzz Knight
Forever.
Dylan Efron
I'm up this time. I better order something good because you paid last time.
Danielle Fishel
The aggressive pace, which situation was Boston.
Dylan Efron
Rob and I went to pay, and the guy looked at us like. He's like. And he didn't say anything, and then he walked away, and we're like, that was weird. He's like, oh, it was already paid for. And that should not have been you, Tab.
Danielle Fishel
We had a very fun dinner with Boston Rob and his beautiful wife and four daughters.
Dylan Efron
I know.
Danielle Fishel
Four children. How do people do it? I have two, and it feels like 200. How people have four, I'll never understand, but they did it. I mean, and they were all delightful.
Dylan Efron
Yeah. And he's such a good dad. You can.
Danielle Fishel
You can see he's so sweet.
Daniella Carrasco
I know.
Danielle Fishel
He messaged me after and said, thank you, and I was like, let's do it.
Dylan Efron
No, he wanted your address. He's like, do you have her address? I need to send her something. He's like, I can't stop thinking about it. Oh, my gosh.
Danielle Fishel
He's crazy. Well, I'm hopeful there will be another time. We're gonna. We're gonna do it again in the finale. In the finale deal. To the finale.
Daniella Carrasco
To the finale. My alliance. To the finale.
Danielle Fishel
All right, thank you, everyone. We'll see you next time. Bye. Danielle with the Stars, produced and hosted by Danielle Fishel, executive producers Jensen Karp and Amy Sugarman. Buzz Knight
This is Buzz Knight from Taking a Walk. Lexus believes in the importance of standards. One of my standards. I never want to be late. I always want to show up on time. For Lexus, the standard is simple experience. Amazing. Their benchmarks aren't stats or specs. They're feelings. Exhilaration, joy. That sense your car was designed just for you. Machines built to make you feel more human. Because a car that doesn't make you feel something is a car that stops short of amazing experience. Amazing at your Lexus dealer.
