Joey Lawrence
Hi Sabrina. Hey, I'm coming to you from a Magical new location today.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, yeah. Where is that magical location?
Joey Lawrence
It's just in my little theater room. I actually, there's. We're. We're doing construction on the house and the wall they're literally tearing out is the shared wall with my sound booth. So if anybody wanted to hear anything, which I'm starting to learn is very important in podcasting, I had to.
Sabrina Bryan
That was not going to be possible.
Joey Lawrence
No. Yes. That was not going to be possible. You know what else is not possible for me? Talking to horses. Can you talk to horses?
Sabrina Bryan
I cannot. I cannot. I get a little. You know, horses are a lot taller than me, than most people. Most people. But, like, I'm pretty short. Like, I'm coming up. I feel like right there on that shoulder line that I could get drop kicked by a horse real easy. So how tall are you? Have we ever talked about this?
Joey Lawrence
How tall are you?
Sabrina Bryan
Actually, I'm five foot. Like, okay, like a teeny tiny bit. Over five foot. A teeny tiny bit. And I know I don't sound like my four year old who says she's four and a half. I'm like five foot and a quarter. Five foot? No, I'm five foot and three quarters. I'm almost five one.
Joey Lawrence
Okay, well, that's fair.
Sabrina Bryan
But yeah, I mean, you know, it brings a lot of issues I hate. I don't. I'm not a big concert goer if I don't have, like a seat because I don't like hanging out with people and going into large masses of people. Horses, Same thing. Like you. I. I get nervous that I could get hit in the head really easily, but they're so beautiful. And I love horses. I love horses. I do. And what about you? Can you talk to horses?
Joey Lawrence
I can.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh.
Joey Lawrence
They don't answer in any way, shape or form. They don't understand me, but I do. I walk up, I'm like, what's up, horse? So my, My wife is a horse person. My wife and my. My stepdaughter. My stepdaughter was a nationally ranked jumper.
Sabrina Bryan
Wow.
Joey Lawrence
So she. We, you know, I. While I know nothing of the world, they're very. They know a lot about the horse jumping world and the horse world and all that kind of stuff. So, yeah, this movie is another one that my wife watched with me because she is a big horse person. And I'm glad she did. I'm glad she. Speaking of that, we might as well just get into it then.
Sabrina Bryan
Let's do it.
Joey Lawrence
We should start by saying welcome back to Magical Rewind the show that makes you want to bring your friends, your PJs and your popcorn and go back to a time when all the houses are smart, the waves, tsunamis, and Joey Lawrence looks fabulous in a tank top. I'm Will Friedle.
Sabrina Bryan
And I'm Sabrina Bryan.
Joey Lawrence
Howdy, cowboy. This week we're traveling to Montana and turning this city boy into a real life rancher. Because we're talking about the 1999 dramedy. Yes, it's a dcom, Horse Sense. It made its Disney debut on November 20, 1999, and had a very successful debut actually. Roping in. See what I did there, Sabrina? Roping in.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes, I did.
Joey Lawrence
Thank you. 3.2 million viewers and winning its time slot for the night. It also set a record for the most household watching a Disney Channel program at the time. So all pretty good for Horse Sense.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes.
Joey Lawrence
Though it didn't get really great reviews at the time of its release, it seemed to flourish later in Life. And in 2012, Horse Sense made that illustrious complex list we've talked about a bunch of times at number 22 for the best of the 25 decoms of all time. And Collider placed it at number 71 on their top 99. So it is a grower, not a shower, apparently. Thank you. You know, when I like to rhyme things, it's you're like, okay, just get on with it. Will also worth noting, it was successful enough to spawn a sequel, which we will, I'm sure cover at some point. It's called Jumping Ship, and it came out in 2001, two years later. So write it down now. It' be a future trip to sequel town. That's right. So we just talked about this a little bit. Do you like horses? I mean, you said you like horses. Do you like riding?
Sabrina Bryan
I haven't done a lot of riding. I've done those. Those typical, you know, vacation rides that you don't get to really even gallop of any sort. So I don't know how to do that. My aunt did have horses at one point, but I was really little at the time when she had them. So I wrote on the back of my cousin, right, like, who was actually, like, you know, steering and actually doing it. I was just holding on for dear life.
Producer Jensen
Wait, Sabrina, you. You rode on the back of your cousin.
Joey Lawrence
Like that?
Producer Jensen
Like your cousin was the horse?
Sabrina Bryan
No, Jensen, I rode behind her on the horse. Moving on as she. I don't know how do you. I was like, it's not a horse. Like, I don't even know how to say that I have done it.
Joey Lawrence
Rode the horse. Yeah.
Sabrina Bryan
I have rode, like, the worst was in the Caribbean. We did do. It was really awesome. But these horses, it was like, okay, I'm not sure I'll ever do this again because they were not treated well. And I just started. The whole time, I was just, like, crying because I just felt so bad for this. This poor little horse. That was all of them. And then we rode. We rode through the water, and then they started pooping, and I was like, with my legs in the air.
Joey Lawrence
Oh, God. This is a much different horse experience than most people have, I would think.
Sabrina Bryan
Yeah. So.
Joey Lawrence
But it's better than riding your cousin.
Sabrina Bryan
But it is. I hate you guys. So anyway, I. It was. I do love horses, though. I think they're so beautiful, and I. I love. They're just magical.
Joey Lawrence
I feel the same way. And I. I'm. I've done it. I think I have about the same horse experience as you do. It's like, you go to places where the horses know what to do, so you hop on their back, and they know when to run and when to gallop, like, you know, around the Hollywood sign and stuff like that. Other than that, I have.
Sabrina Bryan
You could do it around the Hollywood sign.
Joey Lawrence
Well, there was. Back in the day, you'd ride to, like, a. You'd get on a horse, you'd ride to the Hollywood sign, and then you'd go down and you'd end at, like, this bar.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, wow.
Joey Lawrence
So, yeah, it was. It was a cool little ride. You could see the Hollywood sign of kind of stuff. It was neat. It was. But, yeah, I have no horse sense. Oh, and he brings it right back around.
Sabrina Bryan
Look what I did. Right around.
Joey Lawrence
Thank you. Okay, so we might know your history with horses, but how about your horse sense? Like, did you know this movie existed before it came to our podcast assignment?
Sabrina Bryan
I mean, we've talked about doing this movie for quite a while, so I sort of feel like it. But not before it became in this, like, world of us here at Magical Rewind.
Joey Lawrence
No, I feel I knew about it because I knew about the Lawrence boys, obviously, and 1999, Maddie and I were not only doing Boy Meets World, But I think 99 is when we did H double hockey sticks or 98. So this was all kind of right in the zeitgeist. So of course I knew they were doing something. I don't sure. I mean, knew what it was.
Sabrina Bryan
It doesn't. It doesn't. Like, it's a complete Hello. Of course that there would Be a dcom with the Lawrence brothers.
Joey Lawrence
But first of all, we can get into that later. But there should have been a bunch with the Lawrence brothers, not two. But there should have been 15 decoms with the Lawrence boys.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes, they're perfect.
Joey Lawrence
They're perfect.
Sabrina Bryan
Agree. There's. There is not a better amigos trios that could be fit for the Disney Channel.
Joey Lawrence
Thank you. Built for the Disney Channel. All right, well, we've still got a huge pile of manure to move, so let's jump into our synopsis. A spoiled Los Angeles teen is sent to spend time on his cousin's struggling Montana ranch as punishment for selfish behavior. There he learns responsibility, the value of hard work, and the importance of family. Sabrina, been to Montana?
Sabrina Bryan
Yes, I have toured through there, so I've probably been to a Walmart in Montana that I can remember.
Joey Lawrence
Beats me.
Sabrina Bryan
Little mall. But I haven't gotten a chance to do, like, the ranch experience in Montana. And that is something that is absolutely on my list of wanting to do.
Joey Lawrence
100% agree with you. Montana is one. I think I've done 46 to 48 states. I can't remember, but Montana is one of the ones I haven't been to yet. Must be. Oh, oh, you go across that one to do Montana. Well, I have to. You know what? We'll do a family. Family ranch thing. We'll figure it out.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes, that would be so fun.
Joey Lawrence
Love to. Okay, now, although this is set in Montana, it was filmed primarily in Los Angeles and on location in O. Utah. Yes, we've got a real Buffalo dream situation going on here, But I think everything passed pretty well. What do you think?
Sabrina Bryan
I did. I thought it looked great. I feel the Buffalo Dreams vibe, though. Like, it was kind of like. It makes sense knowing that you can kind of pull that across using the landscape of Utah, not Salt Lake City, but the landscape. So.
Joey Lawrence
And it worked like a charm.
Sabrina Bryan
It did.
Joey Lawrence
This movie was directed by a name that we worship here at Magical Rewind. And no, it's not the one you might think. It's Greg Beeman. Now, if you don't recognize his name, you'll know him for the reigning champion DCOM. He directed Miracle in Lane 2, which is currently the film with the highest score on our podcast. He began his career with two Magical World of Disney films. That's right. Magical World of Disney films. Not Wonderful World of Disney. The richest cat in the world. Oh, my God. Can we watch that, please?
Sabrina Bryan
I need to see that.
Joey Lawrence
I just by the title. I need to know what is going on. We need to see that soon. And little Spies, which I'm curious, are they really tiny little spies or are they only doing a little bit of spying? I'd like to know, but would later make movies like License to Drive, mom and dad Saved the World and Problem Child three. But it's. Yeah, right. But it's his impressive DCOM lineup that we care about. He did the first DCOM ever under wraps. Then Brink, the Ultimate Christmas Present and Miracle in Lane Two. He also directed TV shows like Heroes, Lucifer, Smallville and jag. He is a real stealth pick for best Director. When we do our eventual award show, which we're gonna do, it's gonna be hard to beat Paul Hoen. But hey, it could happen. Some great names on that list. Some great, incredible films on that list. So there is a possibility that could happen. And we've got some absolute 90s legends starring in this thing. Some guys that I happen to know very well. We've got Joey Lawrence, who plays Michael Woods. Joey became a Household name from 1990-95 as Brother Joey Russo on Blossom.
Sabrina Bryan
Whoa.
Joey Lawrence
He was a massive teen heartthrob, even releasing albums and super hot guy Cal. But before all that, as a young kid, he'd appeared in movies like Summer Rental and Oliver and Company. And as far as tv, he was a star of Gimme a Break, Brotherly Love alongside his actual brothers and the long running Melissa and Joey opposite my pal Melissa Joanhart. Joey's been doing it since he was like 5 years old. When you talk about child actors, he's one of the OGs. He was one of the guys that every kid actor looked up to and wanted to be. When you were five or six years old, you watched. Cause we're exactly the same age, Joey and I. We literally. Funny story. And we'll talk about this because spoiler alert, he's going to be on our Park Hopper episode where we're going to get a chance to talk to him. But Joey and I took our SATs together. Isn't that a strange Hollywood coincidence? But yeah, he was doing it. He was through with it before the rest of us knew what to do with it. As they would say, that is Joey. And he is joined by his very own brother here again. And another magical rewind favorite and past guest, Andy Lawrence as Tommy Briggs. And while awards are still fresh in our mind, let's acknowledge that Andy is already a shoo in nominee for best actor for Going to the mat. Am I right? I mean, yes. One of the best we saw.
Sabrina Bryan
It's a toss Up. We might have to have an award for best Lawrence and it's a toss up.
Joey Lawrence
You can't. How do you. How do you do that? How do you judge between the Lawrence boys? You can't. By the way, all of them amazingly nice people.
Sabrina Bryan
Seriously, I there, I. Honestly, they all have so many different amazing attributes. I don't know how you could choose one.
Joey Lawrence
You don't. If they. If they never acted again and the three of them just sat down and sang together, you'd be like, oh, my God, that's the best thing I've ever seen. But they can also act. They write, they direct. It's annoying. Save something for the rest of us. Andy also appeared on Blossom, Hawaii 5o, United States of Tara, and was famously the voice of TJ on recess. He also appeared in movies like white man's burden, Mr. Bean, and Jack Frost. We love Andy and you can check out his Magical Rewind interview right on our dedicated feed. He's one of our faves. Worth noting, their third brother and arguably worst brother, Matthew, a former co star of mine on Boy Meets World, does appear in the film uncredited as a cowboy at the airport. And he is one of the stars of the sequel. His cameo really is an Easter egg. And there's a bunch of Easter eggs in this movie we'll get to. For fans of the family, by the way, he's not the worst Lawrence. He's just the one I'm closest with, so I get to rib him a little bit. So, I mean, I don't even really think I have to ask this from the conversation we just had, but. Lawrence Boyce, Disney hall of Fame, yay or nay? Oh, yeah, 100%.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, yeah.
Joey Lawrence
First ballad in.
Sabrina Bryan
Well, again, to restate it, what's a shame is it's not from dcoms. It's from everything they've done, you know, within the Disney franchise. I mean, it's not just a dcom thing. It's literally. I just feel like there was a time where they owned the Disney Channel or, you know, abc.
Joey Lawrence
Yeah. And if ever there was. You talk about young child actors and how they can have attitudes and also it was if there's ever three people that deserve to have attitudes because they were doing it all the time, it was the Lawrence boys and never did. They were completely down to earth. Love their fans. Great guys all the way around.
Sabrina Bryan
Always had a huge following too. I mean, huge.
Joey Lawrence
But they respected their following, which is really, really cool. We've got Susan Walters as Jules Biggs. She's best known as Diane Jenkins Abbott on almost 500 episodes of the Young and the Restless. Five hundred episodes? Yes, folks, she was on that show for almost three months. I'm kidding. Get what I did there. Because it's 500 episodes. I'm joking. She was. It was a 20 year period, but she also appeared on the Flash, MTV's Teen Wolf, the Vampire Diaries and Seinfeld. She played Mulva. But most importantly, she's in the Albert Brooks movie Defending youg Life. A small part. She played Albert Brooks's wife when he was still alive. Best movie of all time. And character actor MC Ganey is Twister. MC Is a very recognizable face and has been in movies like Con Air, Mighty Ducks and Breakdown, but has been in so many TV shows, most notably Happy Days, Cheers and Lost, where he played one of the creepy others, Tom Friendly. Oh, God. You know you're not going to get away with anything with that name. Another soap opera legend is in this movie. Leanne Hunley as Jacy. She's been in and out of Days of Our Lives for the past. Wait for this. 50 years.
Sabrina Bryan
Holy cow.
Joey Lawrence
50 years. Even reappearing in upcoming episodes as recently as this year.
Sabrina Bryan
Wow.
Joey Lawrence
Robin Thomas is her husband, Glenn. I recognize him most as the vice principal in 1987. Summer school producer Jensen and I have talked about this movie ad nauseam. But he has almost 150 credits to his name, including Crazy Ex Girlfriend, Fuller House, the Mommies, and the recent Murder 101 TV movie franchise. And finally, Steve Revis is Mule, another recognizable face. He's best known for his role in Fargo. Oh, he was so good. He had, I think four words in the entire movie and was just so good. But he also appeared in Adam Sandler's the Longest Yard, Twins, Dances With Wolves, and he's the Native American man in the desert in the Doors movie, which is just a really awesome credit.
Sabrina Bryan
Wow.
Joey Lawrence
And the movie runs, oh, 92 minutes. Oh, 92 minutes. So close. There are more Lawrence brothers in this movie than there are minutes over 90. So yes, it's two minutes above target. So that sucks. Get your life together, Horse sense. Speaking of horse sense, I have to ask, what did you think of the title? It's kind of a random title that I thought was gonna maybe reference it. I'm still not 100%. I don't know. How does it tie in? Am I missing something? I might be.
Sabrina Bryan
No, I mean, honestly, it's just kind of at the very end, there's two different scenes that you're going, oh, okay, there it Is. And it's not that they're not meaningful scenes. It's just not a. It's not a like, like, part of the storyline throughout the whole, like, story. Like, it's.
Joey Lawrence
Right. It's not. It's like the Horse Whisperer, where it's like, you see him, like, touching the animal in a certain way.
Sabrina Bryan
It doesn't happen over and over and over again. Right. Literally has, like, two moments that it makes sense. So you. The whole time, I mean, horse in general made sense. Like, obviously, you know, you're kind of just. I, I. For me, I'm one of those people. Like, you're starting to kind of. Am I missing something? Like, now you're, like, trying to, like, search for it. Like, you're like, where is it? Where's the reason? Where's what? You know? So that's the only thing, like, I feel like with the. The title. It's not that it didn't make sense at all. Like, it had horses and it did for a few moments. It's just to name the whole movie off of that. Those two.
Joey Lawrence
I expected it to go somewhere else with it, but.
Sabrina Bryan
Me too.
Joey Lawrence
We'll get into that, too. How about some other suggestions? Dude Ranch Hand, Montana, Summer. How about in the Saddle?
Sabrina Bryan
Yeah. Yeah.
Joey Lawrence
I mean, I feel like I haven't. I feel like I'm not selling you on any of those. Really cool workshop.
Sabrina Bryan
I don't think they're like, to me, this storyline has been. Is so broad and is something we've seen. You've seen a bunch that it kind of like, any of those titles would have been fine.
Joey Lawrence
It works. Hey, sometimes they. The same movie has different titles. Gleaming the Cube was also at one point called, like, Not Without My Brother or something like that. So you just never know.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes.
Joey Lawrence
It'll always be gleaming.
Sabrina Bryan
Well, what do you always say? Lemon. Lemonade Mouth was a different version of.
Joey Lawrence
Oh, yeah. Of Bandslam.
Sabrina Bryan
Yeah.
Joey Lawrence
Yeah. So there you go.
Sabrina Bryan
So it's like, you know, it could be anything.
Joey Lawrence
It could be anything.
Sabrina Bryan
As long as it had something to do with the country, then you're good.
Joey Lawrence
Well, either way. The writers of Four Cents are Chad Hayes and Carrie Hayes, twin brothers. That's very cool. They are, right? You're such a twin fan. They are a writing team that started their career on shows like Baywatch Nights and Beastmaster. I never saw the show Beastmaster, but the movie.
Sabrina Bryan
I've never heard of Baywatch Nights at all.
Joey Lawrence
Oh, my God. Baywatch Nights. They took regular Baywatch and then tried to make it even more Risque. So it's like Baywatch Nights.
Sabrina Bryan
No. Yeah, more risque.
Joey Lawrence
They should have called it Everything but the Nipple. Like, it was. It was. Yeah. Baywatch Nights.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, no. Oh, yeah. No, I definitely can't watch that. I'll be so uncomfortable.
Joey Lawrence
No, it's. Oh, no. It's supposed to make you uncomfortable. But if you want to see a great movie, watch Beastmaster. Great movie.
Sabrina Bryan
Okay.
Joey Lawrence
They would also write this movie's sequel, Jumping Ship. But to my surprise, they've since went on to have quite a career in horror. They wrote the underrated House of Wax remake in 2005, which then turned into getting them a gig on a little movie called the Conjuring, which has since become a massive genre franchise. You'd love to see that. Okay, guys, let's put this grass in a grinder and turn Horse Sense into a smoothie. It's time for the recap. We open on a farm with a ton of cows and a glorious breakfast being prepared. If the movie ended right there, it'd be the greatest dcom in history. Eggs, bacon, pancakes, sausage and peppers. And we're back to the dcom tour of a bedroom to learn about our main character. And honestly, I'll be honest with you, I missed it. I did. I kind of missed it. I'm glad.
Sabrina Bryan
I literally put in my head, oh, my gosh, did we just start a movie without being in a bedroom for a decom? And then I went, oh, nope, we did it.
Joey Lawrence
Hey, here we are. The only way to make the bedroom trope even better is by starting with a wonderful breakfast. Oh, I love that. We see a cowboy hat, a frame photo of a boy and his dad and young Tommy whittling wood next to his dog. His mom yells out, breakfast is ready. He has to hustle. He doesn't want to miss his plane. He makes a whistle for his cousin Michael. He really liked the one he made for his family reunion. He throws on his cowboy hat and rushes downstairs. He's not sure he should go on this trip to California. He doesn't want to leave his mom alone and worries that they don't have enough money. Oh, setting something up. But his mom says not to worry about it. She can manage for four days without him, she promises. Now they're on the way to the airport. Tommy wonders what it's going to be like in Beverly Hills. It seems a little different than Montana. Then we cut over to see just how different it is. Cousin Michael in silk pajamas is just waking up at 12:15. His spacious room is filled with A fish tank, stained glass, and a set of dumbbells in the kitchen. It's not the down home Montana breakfast we just saw. It's grass. It's wheat grass, technically, but it's grass being stuffed into a juicer by the maid, Arlene. Michael enters with a sweater tied around his shoulders like some prepping aid. Chad. He downs the blended concoction and rejects an offer of waffles and eggs. He's watching his body fat percentage. Michael's mom, JC Enters the kitchen and reminds him to go pick up Tommy today, but he says he can't. He's got a date with Gina. Her dad's a big movie director who made Lethal Force, Tornado and Tornado 2. This time it's personal. Of course, I added that part. But JC also has stuff to do for a fundraiser in Palm Springs, so she can't help out. And since little Tommy's father died, he's had a hard time. Ooh, Dead dad alert, everybody. A DCOM favorite now. A dead dad alert. What do we always say? They can. The parent can be. Can be dead. They can't be divorced.
Sabrina Bryan
Yeah.
Joey Lawrence
We are now at Michael's. Okay. Okay. Is he in high school?
Sabrina Bryan
He's in college, right?
Joey Lawrence
Because they say he's 20.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes, he's.
Joey Lawrence
So this has got to be. He's in. I think this is a college course that he.
Sabrina Bryan
I mean, the campus was obviously a college campus.
Joey Lawrence
That's how I look at it, too. Okay, so we're going to say Michael's now in college. He could have been in high school, but I think he.
Sabrina Bryan
If he was a 21 year old in high school, there is nothing more than a super, super senior. That's insane.
Joey Lawrence
Well, he's 20 and he was getting a D plus, so it's not like he's an amazing student. No, I think you're right. I think it's college, too.
Will Friedle
I thought the same thing.
Sabrina Bryan
I thought so, too. Especially with, like, what they were. They were learning about, like, the market.
Joey Lawrence
Like, and they all looked older and everything, so.
Sabrina Bryan
Yeah, she looked older. Everyone looked.
Joey Lawrence
I agree.
Sabrina Bryan
They were in college.
Joey Lawrence
Yeah, I agree. I agree. Okay, so the test grades are being passed back on the last day of the school year. He's seated next to Gina, and she's talking about how her dad is rapping a movie and really wants to meet her new boyfriend. Michael hopes they end up in the Riviera at the same time. But it depends on when Gina's dad starts his next movie. Their teacher notices the couple chatting and lets them know that they've talked too much and didn't pay enough attention to the school subjects. Real estate development, land trust and property deeds. You know, even college. That seems like a weird thing to be studying.
Sabrina Bryan
But anyway, it does, because that's like I don't. My parents are real estate agents. And that was not ever something they learned in college. They had to go to.
Joey Lawrence
Right.
Sabrina Bryan
Special. A special schooling for that.
Joey Lawrence
Yeah. So.
Sabrina Bryan
But it was like, you know, okay, I should. I need to. I need to keep this in mind. This is gonna.
Joey Lawrence
This is gonna mean something. Exactly. Michael then looks at his test score. He got a D. Not so good. Now, out in the quad, Gina gives him a two week anniversary present. The famous two week anniversary present. It's a new watch and he loves it. But when trying it on, he realizes he's 30 minutes late to pick up Tommy. He races off to the airport, eventually picking up Tommy in his convertible Porsche sports car. He blames LA traffic for being late. That's a typical excuse everyone uses. And Tommy is a sweetie pie who just isn't angry at all. Summer vacation has officially begun and Michael is genuinely happy to see his cousin. Tommy's about to present him with the whistle, but the car phone rings. It's Gina. So Tommy bashfully hides the whistle. Gina announces that her family will in fact be in the south of France at the same time after all. Her phone drops out and Tommy sees another opening for his whistle. But Gina calls right back before he can hand it off. We find out that Michael is manipulating some transfer program to travel to France and will drop out once he gets there, even though he needs the school credits. Ooh, okay. And when she asks if they're hanging out for their anniversary, he says yes. Leaving Tommy feeling neglected already and stuck with this goddamn whistle. They eventually make it to Michael's family mansion, and Tommy notes it's bigger than his school. It's dinner time and Michael's mom wishes her sister Jules could have made the trip too. And we find out that Disneyland is atop Tommy's wish list for the week, like so many kids that come to Beverly Hills. So Michael plans to take him Monday because he says the weekend is going to be way too crowded. Good point. That's absolutely true. Glenn, Michael's dad and Tommy's uncle, is going to be with his wife in Palm Springs for the fundraiser. So they'll be alone in the house for a few days. Tommy's shown to his guest room. It's actually the home theater. It has a popcorn machine, candy, and every movie you can possibly dream of. Tommy wants Michael to pick a movie to watch because he's going over to Gina's to give her a necklace he got her. He promises it'll only be five minutes. Now, I don't know if it was in this scene, but. Or the next scene where he starts with two movies, but the bottom movie. Mrs. Doubtfire. No, Mrs. Doubtfire. With Matt Lawrence.
Sabrina Bryan
With Matthew Lawrence.
Joey Lawrence
But Brink was on the screen. When he turns on the thing, I was like, oh, yeah. And there's Brink. So we're getting Easter kind of little Easter eggs all over the place, which is very fun. The next morning, Arlene is happy to make Tommy a traditional Montana breakfast. None of that grass smoothie. He promises he's going to make her breakfast soon, just as Michael storms in. He's got to leave to run errands, so Tommy invites himself to go along. Michael thinks Tommy would have more fun at home. Tommy says he wants to go to Adventureland later because his friend Mule went there once and said it was a blast. Can we please add Mule to the list of good dcom names? Can we?
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, crazy.
Joey Lawrence
Love it. Love it. Mules up there. It's. It's. No. What is it? Johnny Jaguar. What? Why can't I think of his name?
Sabrina Bryan
From Jackal Johnson.
Joey Lawrence
Jackal Johnson.
Sabrina Bryan
Yeah.
Joey Lawrence
It's not Jack Johnson, but Johnson.
Sabrina Bryan
It's a little bit better because it's just one crazy name. Mule.
Joey Lawrence
Mule. I love it. Yes. No, it's. It is officially on the list. Michael promises them they'll do whatever he wants and leaves without drinking a smoothie at all. Doesn't touch it. Doesn't put it to his lips, just grabs it. It's orange in some way, and just puts it right down. Later, Tommy outside alone, kicking around a soccer ball and hitting tennis balls by himself in what has to be the saddest montage in the history of any dcom. And we get kind of another little montage of the next few days. Tommy's watching a ton of movies, lassoing a statue in the front yard, cooking breakfast for Arlene as he promised, then teaching her how to wrangle. He's never even seen Michael again, or if he does, he's on the phone with Gina. He's in his bedroom. He's just not paying attention to him at all. Arlene has now officially seen enough. The next morning, she decides to shame Michael for ignoring his cousin. Michael says he's taking him to Disneyland next week, but in reality, Tommy leaves tomorrow. Michael can't believe it. He apparently doesn't know how time works at all, even with that fancy new watch. Tommy enters the kitchen clearly pissed. When Michael asks if he's ready to go to Disneyland, Tommy makes sure he actually wants to go and won't bail on him. Michael promises he won't. So after Disneyland, they're going to go to Knights of the Round Table. Huh? Which is the name they use so Medieval Times won't sue them. Timmy is so. And I never get that. Why wouldn't you want, like, Medieval Times? You'd want the name of your company in a big movie.
Sabrina Bryan
Wouldn't you know? It is the same thing. It's the same way on the channel how we probably every, you know, every network how you have to, like, put something over a Nike.
Joey Lawrence
Yeah, you get a. It's called Greeking it out. You have to Greek out the logo.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes.
Joey Lawrence
It's very strange. We would always change the products on our. On the set of Boy Meets World. So it's like we'd get Captain Cunch.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, yes.
Joey Lawrence
And if they did, Stu Waffle Crisp instead of waffle, could they cover out one part? So it was just. It was va. It was a waffle crisp. You do things like that. Oak. We drank a lot of oak just the way it was. Yes. Tommy is so excited, and Arlene seems happy as well, so they decide to leave right now. On the way there, Michael apologizes for how fast the week has gone by. He planned on doing way more with Tommy, and he's going to do more with him today. But then, oh, what happens? Gina calls her daddy, got back this morning and wants to know when he can finally meet Michael. At first, Michael says he can't, but eventually agrees that he'll only stay for like a minute or two. And again, the disappointment is visible on Tommy's face. As a result, Michael drops Tommy off at Kiddie Zone, a play place with loud music and screaming babies. He promises he'll be back soon. And fun Little dcom Easter egg here yet again. The kids are watching Brink on the tv. Same director, Greg Beeman. He's showing his movies all over the place. I love it.
Sabrina Bryan
I love it, too. And I'm sure when people are watching this, they're like, hey, I know that one.
Joey Lawrence
That's great. I know that movie.
Sabrina Bryan
I watch a Brink. So fun.
Joey Lawrence
We cut to a horse track where now Michael, Gina, and her dad are cheering on a thoroughbred. Michael has been picking winners, and Gina's dad wants to know his secret, which, again, I thought was a whole different movie. This guy apparently went to four horse races and won four times. How is this not a bigger story than they're making it out to be? He's some kind of. How is it not called the, yeah, the, the gambling sense or whatever. This guy could have been a jagillionaire.
Sabrina Bryan
Some people just have that. It's so strange.
Joey Lawrence
No one can pick horse winners. I, I, I don't believe it's all, it's all guessing.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes, that's what I mean.
Joey Lawrence
Like, some people can really just be like, I can pick winners.
Sabrina Bryan
No, like, it's just like you just kind of like, for whatever reason, that luck of just like. Yeah, for no reason at all. You're just like, eeny, meeny, miny, moonroe just learned how to do that. And you're just like, eeny, meeny, miny, moe that one. And then they win. That happens. So crazy. It does. I see. Well, that's.
Joey Lawrence
Joey Lawrence's character is a lucky horse picker. I don't even know what they're called.
Sabrina Bryan
The luck of the horses.
Joey Lawrence
Exactly. So everything's going great, but Michael knows he has to run and pick up Tommy. But Gina's dad says he can't leave before the next race. He needs to pick him another winner, which, again, I wouldn't let him leave either. Gina also begs him to stay, so he does, eventually sprinting to his car and crashing into an old lady's vehicle on his way out. And they exchange info very, very quickly. When he does finally get back to play place, he can't find Tommy anywhere. He panics, climbing through the obstacles, looking for his cousin, screaming his name and fighting off little rugrats. He eventually finds out that Tommy called Arlene to pick him up because he was worried something might have happened to Michael. Oh. When Michael does get back to the house, Tommy's watching tv. Michael tries to guilt him about leaving the play place, but Tommy calls his cousin selfish and says he can't wait to go home tomorrow. Nobody is going to Gaslight a farm kid. It's like, no, no, no. We don't, we don't mess around here, buddy. That's just the way it works. Michael apologizes and blames the lucky horse streak, but Tommy calls horse racing animal abuse. It is. Michael's parents get home from Palm Springs and ask how Disneyland was. Tommy covers for Michael, saying it was exactly how he expected it to be, but he's tired and needs to go pack. Michael also lies and tells his dad the damage on his car was from a hit and run. Ooh. The Next morning, Tommy is ready to fly home. He takes one last look at the whistle he never had a chance to give to Michael and returns it to his bag. Tommy tells his aunt if Michael ever makes it out to the ranch, he'd like to return the favor of Hoffman hospitality. We catch the sarcasm, but she doesn't. And just like that, Tommy returns to Montana. That night in Beverly Hills, Michael joins his parents for dinner. And something is definitely off. His mom got a call from her sister. They now know he didn't spend any time with Tommy during the trip. They ask about Kitty Zone and horse racing and why he's always sleeping or out with Gina. And that's when the doorbell rings. And I was like, okay, this can't be good. You're supposed to live in Beverly Hills. Nobody rings your doorbell, so it's not going to be a good thing. It's two police officers. They're looking for Michael about a car accident. He gave the woman false information and took off. And I was like, why? You've got insurance. You've got everything. Why. Why give false information? Why lie about it?
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, I didn't feel like he did it on purpose. I literally think I just felt like he, like, just gave her the wrong information. However, when he was doing it, he was doing it off of memory. And I'm like, I could never give my insurance card number.
Joey Lawrence
No, nobody knows that.
Sabrina Bryan
Like, that was like, what? But no, she couldn't. Like, purpose, huh? Oh, I thought he just, like, like, tried to do it and then gave her the wrong information. I just took it for what it was.
Joey Lawrence
I thought he kind of. Because he never says when he's getting yelled at. Like, I thought I gave her all my information. I didn't try to run away.
Sabrina Bryan
Yeah, he did.
Joey Lawrence
No. Does he say I. I screwed up and gave her the wrong information?
Sabrina Bryan
Yes, he said, I get. I didn't realize I gave her the wrong information.
Joey Lawrence
Oh, then I missed. I missed that part. I didn't. I didn't see that. Oh, okay.
Sabrina Bryan
Well, then, yeah, because there's just no way. Somewhat he's like. He was thinking he could give her the wrong information and she wasn't going to, like, report it.
Joey Lawrence
Oh, see, I thought he was going to. Oh, here's my information. Bye. And he bounced like, she's never going to be able. This old lady's never going to be able to find me. I didn't know. He mentions it later saying, I guess I gave her the wrong information.
Sabrina Bryan
We've got it. We're going to have to Ask him what was the real backstory of this.
Joey Lawrence
I love that. We're going to figure it out. What's the backstory, by the way? My favorite thing in the world in this movie, and it's such an inside baseball thing for anyone who knows them. But the Lawrence brothers call everybody buddy. Hey, buddy. And they called each other throughout the entire movie. I was like, oh, it's so true to life. Yes. Hey, buddy. Once the cops leave, Michael's mom and dad are obviously furious. They don't know what's gotten into him. He swears he. Oh, there you go. He swears he accidentally messed up his information. I guess I just missed that part. But his parents aren't sure of that, especially because he also lied to them and called it a hit and run, which technically it was, but. But yeah, I get it. And as punishment, the European study tour is now in limbo. Michael says he's going to call Tommy to profusely apologize and take money from his trust fund to fix the Porsche. He'll also fly Tommy back out and treat him right. But his dad isn't impressed. His trust fund wasn't made for that. He's 20 years old, and it's time to grow up. They decided he's going to spend some time on his aunt's ranch and work there for a month for free. Michael can't believe what he's hearing, but his parents hope he'll learn something about hard work and responsibility. And if they hear any negative reports from Jules or Tommy while he's in Montana, the European trip is off. This was a great scene. Good acting, good writing. Way to get us into a great way to get us into the movie. But also parents that are holding their kids accountable for what they did in a dcom. I love.
Sabrina Bryan
They also set it up to where this is. Although they have a lot of money, you do get the. The. The information that they aren't old money. They've earned their money. So it. They're really making sure that they understand, like their kid understands the idea of working hard and earning your. You know, earning the value of a dollar. The value of a dollar. And I love that. I always love those.
Joey Lawrence
Me too. I thought this was a. It was. I. I thought this was another movie where all of the adults were great.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes. It was mainly adults in this movie.
Joey Lawrence
Yeah. Yeah. And they were all.
Sabrina Bryan
First time in a long time.
Joey Lawrence
They were really good.
Sabrina Bryan
A movie we're watching with mainly adults.
Joey Lawrence
Yeah. Other than Andy. Yeah, everybody. He's the only kid. Everybody else are adults. And they were really, really good in this movie.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes.

Joey Lawrence
And so Michael lands in Montana. Now sporting some flashy, expensive western gear, but clearly a city slicker.
Sabrina Bryan
Right off the plane he bumps into cowboys.
Joey Lawrence
Was like, wow, look at those boots.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh my God.
Joey Lawrence
Oh, it was. But kind of a perfect Beverly Hills. Like, this is obviously what cowboys look like.
Sabrina Bryan
It was perfect. It was perfect.
Joey Lawrence
It really was. Right off the plane, he bumps into a more realistic cowboy played by his very hunky brother, Matt. Matt. Sabrina, did you immediately know it was Matt?
Sabrina Bryan
Yes, and he looks so cute. And I went, wait, I didn't think Matt was in this. Is Matt in this movie? Is this a cameo? What is going on right now?
Joey Lawrence
It's just a cameo.
Sabrina Bryan
And it threw me a little bit.
Joey Lawrence
Cute boy cameo. Come on, let's be honest.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, he's. Oh yeah, for sure. He looked great.
Joey Lawrence
Would he be on your wall? Would Matt be one of the guys on your wall? No, we're never gonna find a guy for your wall. You're gonna end up with. With a guyless wall. Sabrina, is Joey.
Sabrina Bryan
Probably. Yeah. Oh, okay. Awesome. Yeah.
Joey Lawrence
Okay. There. It's so long haired Joey.
Sabrina Bryan
Yeah, I guess I just. He was just so funny and just so dreamy like, okay, hey, I'm just. I'm happy.
Joey Lawrence
Not empty anymore.
Sabrina Bryan
I was really little during Blossom though, right?
Joey Lawrence
That's okay. I see you in just this, this horrible white room with nothing on your walls. So now at least there's a Joey Lawrence poster on your wall.
Sabrina Bryan
Dan pictures and things like that.
Joey Lawrence
Well, Anna, Joey, we're putting Joey Lawrence up there. It's just the way it is. I'm just glad that we got somebody on your wall.
Sabrina Bryan
I definitely didn't have a room ever with like in sync or even if I was. Even though I was fans of that. I never had a. Like a fan room. Like a room.
Joey Lawrence
How about in your locker?
Sabrina Bryan
I didn't have a locker. We already. That's right.
Joey Lawrence
You talked about this. You were lockerless too. Oh my God. We had different childhood. Not that I had Joey Lawrence in.
Sabrina Bryan
My locker, but almost at my gym. Like upgraded my membership to get a locker just so I had one. Even though I would have never left stuff.
Joey Lawrence
Oh, I'm buying you a locker for Christmas. I don't know how that's possible.
Sabrina Bryan
Just like a little mini one.
Joey Lawrence
I'm gonna get. No, I'm getting you a full size locker delivered to your house. So Aunt Jules and Tommy are there to pick him up and sarcastically compliments Michael's boots. You get the feeling he has not yet forgiven him for his la trip. Jules makes a quick stop at a nearby bank to talk to a guy in a suit and eventually exits, adding papers to her folder. She definitely looks stressed. We are now at the ranch. Michael is disturbed by the smell and guess who he meets? Mule. Yes, he finally meets Mule. Good old Mule. He's a ranch hand around and it reveals that actually Mule is his real name. And I already love him. He's my favorite. And not to be outdone, he meets Twister, a tough looking mustache cowboy, the backbone of the ranch who's already intimidating the city folk on purpose. They're also. They also go compliment his goofy boots and Michael brags that they're Italian leather. Mule asks if that means the cow's mood in an accent, but Michael insists it's because they're expensive. Even Max, the family dog, can't stop growling at their new visitor. I thought that we were gonna get a scene where eventually Max was going to be like sitting with Michael on his lap. Kind of. They were going to go for me. Always growled with them. I thought it was going to be an on running thing. Every time he saw him, he growled. And then we're going to do a scene where it's like he protects him or something and it just never happened. Michael will bunk with Tommy and he doesn't seem thrilled about it. He quickly calls Gina back home and calls Montana Boersville. As he hangs up, Tommy is hiding in a nearby treehouse and jump scares Michael. Boo. Now in the house, Michael is impressed with their antiques, including the TV stand, a gift to his dad from a great great grandfather. Tommy teaches Michael how to use the remote control in case he wants to Watch some tv, but Tommy's going to bed. On his way out, he encourages Michael to stay up as late as he'd like with a smirk on his face. Very, very early the next morning, Michael is sleeping and it's still dark outside. So Tommy quietly hovers over him and loudly plays a. A triangle right next to his ear. Michael jumps. Rise and shine. It's 4:30am and breakfast is on the table. Michael just went to bed, but Tommy doesn't care. Michael tries to go back to sleep, but Tommy gives him two words. French Riviera. It's payback time. And he knows his aunt and uncle's phone number. Oh, yeah, a little bit of blackmail. Down in the kitchen, everyone is now eating a big breakfast, even Twister and Mule. Michael takes his seat and is told not to work on an empty stomach. When he asks for turkey bacon, everyone laughs. Bacon's from a pig, not turkeys. Reality's setting in. Montana's gonna suck for Michael.
Sabrina Bryan
Tommy says he wants Montana's gonna suck for Michael.
Joey Lawrence
Well, it is. It's absolutely. Well, it is. Tommy says he went to the bluff and saw that three colored paint again. And I had no idea what he was talking about. None at all. Has rewind it twice.
Sabrina Bryan
I did too. I was like, was he saying three colored pig?
Joey Lawrence
Yeah, I didn't know. I. I just accepted I'd figure it out later because I was like, I don't know. There's a three colored paint. Okay.
Sabrina Bryan
I don't know what that means.
Joey Lawrence
Twister and Mule leave for work, and Tommy gleefully decides Michael's first day will be doing work around the barn. Sounds harmless enough. Michael also meets Goliath, a very mean bull that once tried to kill Mule. How dare you. I will kill anyone who tries to hurt Mule. Still dressed in nines, Michael will spend his day moving manure to a pickup truck, something he begrudgingly does all day, eventually falling headfirst into the manure and later finding out he could have used a nearby tractor instead of a shovel and wheelbarrow. And if you pause it, it's not even close to being Joey Lawrence who falls in the mud.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, really? To the point where when he gets.
Joey Lawrence
Out of the mud, they're still shooting him head on. And I paused it. I'm like, they're not even trying to hide. It's just some other guy. It's just completely some other guy.
Sabrina Bryan
Notice that, though. I did not notice that several times in this movie.
Joey Lawrence
It's just some other dude.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, my gosh. You know why I was going, what? Kind of. In my head, then I start going, if I had to do this scene, what would it be that I was actually falling into? Because even mud seems disgusting.
Joey Lawrence
It's mud. You're falling in the mud. Come on, you're making a movie. I know, but I was amazed. I was like, oh, God, that's not even. They show another. Like, I thought it was a mistake. They show another guy pushing the wheelbarrow and then falling into the mud and then getting up and looking at the camera with glasses on. I'm like, that's. That's just not him. For the last 10 seconds, it hasn't been him. It's like they didn't even try to hide it.
Sabrina Bryan
You know his face so well because I did not notice that.
Joey Lawrence
Go. Honestly, go back and watch. And you're like, oh, my God.
Will Friedle
That's like Joey.
Sabrina Bryan
Was Joey up on your wall, Will?
Joey Lawrence
How do you know his face? I just noticed stuff, Sabrina. And yes, he was. He was dreamy. What do you want from me?
Sabrina Bryan
Hey, hey, hey.
Joey Lawrence
The first time I met Joey Lawrence, we were both 12 years old and we bumped into each other, literally. I was going in and he was coming out of the Ed Dubics bathroom in Los Angeles.
Sabrina Bryan
I loved Ed Bevix.
Will Friedle
Oh my God.
Joey Lawrence
Ed Dubvik's is the best we've talked about on Pot Meats World all the time. Magical Rewind and Pot meets World sponsored by Ed Dubevix. They're not. But anyway, later, Tommy and his mom are on the porch looking concerned. What are they going to do? She says that they'll have to go live with their Uncle Hank for a while, just until they can get their feet back on the ground. Tommy hopes the bank can just wait a little longer, but his mom admits they owe a lot of money. More than they'll ever have have. And there's an auction with the bank in four weeks to start liquidating their things. You can tell they're both heartbroken. She says to keep this news between them. Just as Michael returns from a long shower, he joins them for the sunset, or what they call God's painting. Tommy decides to go to bed and Michael says he won't be watching TV tonight. Now alone with his aunt, Michael admits that Montana is a little bit different than la. She points out the treehouse and explains it was a project that Tommy and his dad started before he got sick, but now Tommy just can't finish. Michael says he's sorry for what happened to his Uncle John. She says the ranch was his life and Starts to get choked up. The next day, Tommy brings Michael to help with branding the cows. And I didn't like the scene just because branding looks awful. They're going to see the cattle through and then spend the night outside. Their neighbor said she saw some wolf tracks, but Tommy thinks it's no big deal. Michael swears he can ride a horse, but no one is convinced. Tommy's found his horse with his dad and they nursed her back to life. Michael's given a very skinny horse named Slingshot, but Michael demands a healthier looking one. They sometimes call Black back. And right as they point to him, I kid you not, my wife will back me up. Right as they point to him, before he even says anything, I go, I bet that horse is named Lightning. I swear to God I did. And so when they finally say Lightning Bolts, soon I went, oh, my God. Like I fully called the name of the horse.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, my gosh.
Joey Lawrence
I don't know why. Once he mounts Black, Michael takes almost no precautions whatsoever. So he takes off at full speed on first kick. We get a real rodeo scene here. And a stunt double eventually throwing Michael right into Goliath's pen. Oh, that is a killer bull. And it instantly goes to Gorham. But Michael exits just in time. And if you slow it down, it looks like whoever's jumping out of the pen might have gotten hit in the leg. It. It's real close. Not a good start to the day. Now they're out in the canyon. The whole gang is rounding up cows, with Michael trying his best, but mostly just falling off of the saddle. And once they do corral the animals and start, you know, branding the cows one by one, he actually does start to help. That night, they prepare dinner outside. And Michael's getting accustomed to slingshot, though his butt is. But before he can rest, Twister gives him some jerky and a flashlight. He's first watch up for the wolves. He's told not to make any abrupt noises, and if he sees any wolves, just come back and get them. Now he's on night watch. Michael does what Michael does and for some reason calls Gina and complains. Mid conversation, he sees a beautiful shooting star. And it's a shooting star that isn't a Cheetah Girls 2 shooting star. This one actually just goes pretty quick, like a real shooting star.
Sabrina Bryan
I could have done for it to go a little bit longer, a little.
Joey Lawrence
Bit, so that you and your three friends could get up and make wishes.
Sabrina Bryan
Run to the window and make a wish.
Joey Lawrence
I get it. He's Obviously never seen a shooting star in Los Angeles. And he has to admit Montana is beautiful. Gina begs him not to go all quote Dances with Wolves on him, unquote, and becomes frustrated when he's not paying attention to her and hangs up. It's also worth noting that A very popular 90s club, Dragonfly, is mentioned here. Some LA realism in the script. I had to ask producer Jensen if that was real thing because apparently it is. And I've never been to a club club in my life. So when Gina I. The only time I went to a nightclub, I went to Sabrina Carpenter's 16th birthday in a nightclub. And I was like a, why am I in a nightclub for a 16 year old? And B, I was like 40. So no, I was never. No. Hey, crowds, loud music, dancing. Yay. No, not for. Not for this guy.
Sabrina Bryan
Crowds and me can't do it. I get elbowed in the head. Not good for me.
Joey Lawrence
Yeah, but you could dance the night away. We all know. I've seen it. I've seen it. I saw you with. What's his name? With the guy who you made out with. We'll get to that later. Would that guy have been you? Oh, oh. Would dancing guy from Cheated Girls 2 been on your wall?
Sabrina Bryan
No.
Joey Lawrence
Wow. Okay.
Sabrina Bryan
No.
Joey Lawrence
First on screen kiss wouldn't have been on the wall. That's sad. Sabrina, no. So when Gina quickly calls back to apologize for her attitude, the ringing spooks his horse, kicking Michael out of the saddle and causing the cows to stampede. He runs away and as they chase him, he calls 91 1. He eventually jumps in a tree to let them pass, but that was another close call. The group eventually catches up with the now smashed cell phone and can't believe he lost all the cows. The next day, Twister rounded up the strays and the stampede knocked down some fences. Now Michael's been tasked with moving large wooden poles for the broken fences into a truck, a job he thinks will be easy for him. But when Mule sees his progress, Michael finds out that the truck he's been using hasn't run in 15 years. Mule shows him the real truck that was hiding around the corner. And so now Michael wants a word with Tommy. He's angry about the truck mix up and is sick of being sabotaged. Payback is over. Tommy can't believe he used to want Michael to be his brother. And even at this point, even I agreed. I was like, okay, yeah, he, he treat. He didn't treat you well when you were in LA and you got him back a couple times. Enough. Like, even I was to the enough point at this. At this point.
Sabrina Bryan
Same, same.
Joey Lawrence
I got it.
Sabrina Bryan
I got it. I was like, hey, Michael, why don't we start, like, looking around before you start your next project and just, like, make sure that you know what you're doing because, yeah, now it's starting to fool me once. You're just an idiot.
Joey Lawrence
Shame on you. Fool me twice. Poles in a truck. So that's as the old saying is.
Sabrina Bryan
Old, old, old saying. That everyone knows Michael.
Joey Lawrence
That everyone knows that Michael says the reunion wasn't real life. They were the only two people under 30. He was just so bored. He had nothing better to do than hang out with Tommy. They decide at that point to stay out of each other's way for the rest of his stuff.
Sabrina Bryan
That was harsh, though. Michael. Come on, you're 20. This kid's young and that.
Joey Lawrence
But it also shows how good an actor Andy is. Andy was so good. I mean, they both are, but Andy was so good in the scene. He is a true dcom star. I also feel like we might have gotten a little bit robbed of him as a mainstream movie star.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes.
Joey Lawrence
I feel like, especially when I was watching a bunch of this, I had real. But. But even better for his age, but real kind of Macaulay Culkin vibes, like how he easily could have taken that path of being in some of these huge Hollywood movies when he was that age. He was great.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes. And I. I honestly, I don't know his, like, you know, story of, like, why and what happened where. Where. You know, where. Where the career ended up going. Because you're right, he. I mean, he was great and everyone loved him. And.
Joey Lawrence
And yeah.
Sabrina Bryan
How ador this age before he's hitting his, like, cool guy age. How adorable is he? Like, yeah, he could be in anything. Anything.
Joey Lawrence
Well, look at him in this. And then look at him and going to the mat. It looks like two different people. I mean, he looks so much like a Lawrence and going to the mat. And here he's like, he's a Lawrence, obviously, but he's just the cute leading kid.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes.
Joey Lawrence
Yeah, he's really.
Sabrina Bryan
Eyes are just like the kindest little teddy bear eyes. You just want just like, oh, come here, give me a hug.
Joey Lawrence
He does. He. He defin lights up the scream. He does.
Sabrina Bryan
He does.

Michael then finds a safe spot to nap on his truck, only to eventually be startled by Twister barking orders. The rebuilding of the fence will take weeks, which Michael just doesn't have the patience for. And Twister points out that Michael just doesn't give a darn. And he does say darn about the family losing their ranch, which Michael doesn't get. Lose their ranch. Yeah, he didn't know. Twister says everything Michael needs right now is in that truck. And then rides away. We're back in the house. The banker is surveying the family's belongings for auction, even sizing up the antique TV stand, which is an arm wall. I love that word. Michael complimented him earlier on. And as the bankers leave, Michael enters. Jules tries to cover up the meeting. But he knows something was up that night. Michael can't sleep. He stares at the picture of his deceased uncle. And he knows he has to do something. He goes out to the stables and gets to know Lightning a little better. Called it. Eventually, the sound of the horse wakes Tommy up when he sees his cousin practicing outside. Tommy is actually impressed. That morning, Michael starts working on the fence. And Joey Lawrence is very buff. He really was a 90s hunk. There's no denying it.
Sabrina Bryan
Telling you he was. He was.
Joey Lawrence
I will. I will say this. And I'm very comfortable. My own sexuality. I know the man can fill out a tank top. That's all I have to say.
Sabrina Bryan
There's not very many guys either that, like, I would be like, I don't really love guys in tank tops. But, like, Joey Lawrence can wear a tank top. It's okay. Like, I. I'm good.
Joey Lawrence
It's okay.
Sabrina Bryan
I'm good with that. Okay. Like, I really don't. I'm not into tank tops with guys. Guys really that much. But Joey can fill a tank top.
Joey Lawrence
Works on Joey. Man can fill out a tank top. What do you want to say? He just can.
Sabrina Bryan
You can't. You can't take it away from him.
Joey Lawrence
You can't.
Sabrina Bryan
Because that would be a lie.
Joey Lawrence
We'd be lying. And we don't do that on the show.
Sabrina Bryan
We absolutely don't. It is Nothing but the truth here. On magical.
Joey Lawrence
On magical rewind. Eventually, Tommy dismounts nearby and points out the three colored paint. Something we can finally understand. He was talking about a multi colored horse. And the herd has let her join the group. Group. Tommy knew they would. Michael apologizes for earlier. He said some cruel things that weren't true. At the reunion, he truthfully had a great time. They sit on a bench that Tommy's dad made, and Tommy talks about how much he misses him. He'd sit with his dad on the bench every day after work and name the horses together. They even named the little one Tommy Boy. His dad thought the wild horses were lucky, but now Tommy doubts that. And that helps Michael put together why his cousin hates the racetrack. Mike wants to know why he didn't know about the banking issues. And Tommy admits that he doubted he'd even care. They just can't get out of debt and no one can because everyone in this area is having the same issues. They'll auction their belongings next week, sell the herd and do what they can. But what does Michael care? Tommy knows he's leaving soon for a vacation with Gina. It is another great, touching, quiet scene for a dcom. I don't know if it's harder to act with your brother when you're both playing different characters or if it's easier.
Sabrina Bryan
To act, but the chemistry was just unreal. It really was.
Joey Lawrence
And there's a couple scenes in the movie that are. That are like this are just really good, quiet dcom scenes that were great.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes. I mean, throughout the whole movie, it was just like, man, you could just go. Kept going for me, I just kept going. God, these guys are good. Like, they. They're just it. I mean, I will believe anything they're selling at this point. Like, they're just so good.
Joey Lawrence
In all fairness, I think after the last scene, no matter what he was selling, if he was in the tank top, you'd be buying. Let's be honest, Sabrina.
Sabrina Bryan
See, this is why I can't even give you just a seed. Because then you just take it and you grow a whole freaking orchard with it. God damn it. Okay?
Joey Lawrence
Seeds are meant to grow things, Sabrina. Seeds are meant to grow things. That's the way it works. Later, Michael comfortably sprints home on his horse to call his dad. He tells him about Jules and Tommy's financial situation, but his dad already knew about it. His dad actually tried to help them, but they won't accept his money. They're too proud to take handouts. He even offered to make it a loan. But Jules said no. Michael doesn't get it. They're just going to throw all this away. Michael isn't giving up, though. He's going to find a way to keep the ranch. The next morning, Michael is quick to explain pyramid schemes to Twister. This is his plan. Well, I guess this is what you get when you're in college and getting bees. Good idea, Einstein. Not only leave him broke, but put him in jail. This is such a random addition. And we found where we could cut two minutes to make it 90 minutes. This scene could have gone. You don't need it. Get him something in the good. You know, have him come up with another thing, you know, anything else, essentially.
Sabrina Bryan
To get the same scene true to the time. Because at this time, there were so many different pyramids schemes kind of out there.
Joey Lawrence
I guess that's true. Yeah.
Sabrina Bryan
It was really true to the. And it was a quick way to make a buck. And how people, especially young people, I mean, how many times was it like a door to door salesman situation where you're just like, yeah, okay, so if.
Joey Lawrence
You and I can get two other podcasts to come together and then they get two other podcasts.
Sabrina Bryan
Right? It's just ridiculous.
Joey Lawrence
It'll work. It'll work. Yes. Good news is Twister figures out it's a gambling scam and passes on the idea. But reiterates Jules won't take money from anyone anyway. Michael just doesn't get all this pride. Twister explains, it just don't make any sense to keep the business going. It happens to a lot of farmers and ranchers, which is another kind of underlying story of this movie as it does happens to a lot of farmers and ranchers who work their butts off to keep the rest of us fed. And sometimes they can't keep their farms. Later, Jules and Tommy are leaving for Uncle Hank's barbecue, but Michael's decided to stay home. We find out Tommy has been rushing to get the tree house done before they leave, but it's a lot of work. But once Jules and Tommy leave, Michael uses the alone time to finish the tree house. Something he just magically knows how to do now. Build houses.
Sabrina Bryan
That was one of the things. Like the guy can't have a clue on how to get this fence started to get finished. And.
Joey Lawrence
But he's building small homes.
Sabrina Bryan
But he can go up there and build a tiny. A tiny little apartment in like two hours.
Joey Lawrence
He builds the whole house, including a deck with a railing. So it was like, oh, my God. The only, the only Thing missing. This is like I'm putting the pool in tomorrow. Like what's the problem? It was, it was a lot. It should have been like it again.
Sabrina Bryan
Like he just did a lot of like not. I don't think he needed to finish it. He could have just made it like, like the progress, like a lot of progress to show.
Joey Lawrence
Like it should have been something. Like it was so close to being done. But the last three boards he keep the. Tommy keeps putting up and pulling off and putting up and pulling off.
Sabrina Bryan
Yeah. Couldn't figure out how to do it.
Joey Lawrence
Michael goes to finish it and he, he the finishing touches. But the idea that in two hours he's able to finish the entire home. It's a five bedroom home, four and a half baths. It's very nice. It's on Zillow. Check it out.
Sabrina Bryan
Take it out for $3 million.
Joey Lawrence
3.2 million. But when the duo returned to see his work, Tommy is not happy. He was supposed to finish it with his dad. He starts frantically dismantling it, breaking down and crying in pain.
Sabrina Bryan
Another great scene for Mr. Andy Lawrence.
Joey Lawrence
Yes, and even the way Joey reacts. They're both really good in this movie. Now inside, Michael calls Gina to tell her about Jules's terrible financial situation when he's heading off to Europe. They won't even have a house. She doesn't care. It's all too depressing. She wants to talk about villas, five star restaurants and a racehorse her dad just bought. He explains he's proud of himself. He's been learning and doing things he never thought he could do. He's working with his hands and riding horses. But she cuts him off and hangs up. I hated G. Gina. The next morning, he's still working when he. Gina.
Sabrina Bryan
That's a new. A new girl name for us. Gina.
Joey Lawrence
Gina.
Sabrina Bryan
Just like from now on.
Joey Lawrence
Yeah, yeah, seriously.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, God damn it, Gina. That's it. There it is. God damn Gina.
Joey Lawrence
Oh, don't even get me started. Don't get me started on Gina. The next morning he is still working when he hears a stampede of horses. He's quick to remember all their names, but then Tommy races down the hill on his horse screaming for Twister sister. He tells Michael that Tommy boy is dying. Michael jumps on Tommy's horse to help and finds Tommy Boy stuck in the mud. Tommy tried to lasso him out but can't get to him. So Michael wants to go in, but Tommy knows he has an easier time of it because of his weight. He's smaller. He can get there safer. So they Tie a rope around Tommy and slowly let him walk into the mud. With Tommy giving him slack and making sure they don't also lose a human in this because you know, that would suck. Tommy does eventually wrap up the horse but spooks him, pushing Tommy and Michael into the mud. Michael jumps up and Tommy caresses the animal. He's a very stressed animal and this is where horse sense I think comes in a little bit. Yes, he's caressing the stressed out animal. He's kind of relaxing him.
Sabrina Bryan
He's the close up on the eye.
Joey Lawrence
And the eyes, all that stuff. Michael is touched and impressed by his cousin's calmness, only snapping out of his reaction when he has to work again to pull him out. It is a tough push and pull, but eventually they save Tommy boy and let him be free. They did it. The cousins worked together. We're now back at the house. Jules sees the boys returning and is not only shocked to see how muddy her son is, but Michael has only five minutes to shower and make his flight home. Michael runs to the house to get ready. Now packed and clean, Michael power walks to the car with Tommy. This trip went so fast. Michael apologizes again about Disneyland and promises him next time he's in la, they're going for sure. He says goodbye and gets in Jules's truck to leave. On their way to the airport, they notice they're being trailed by Tommy or a 35 year old man on a horse, which is obviously what it was. He. It's the whistle he still has there. He wants to finally give it to Michael. He thanks Tommy for the thoughtful gift and they drive off, waving goodbye to his now smiling cousin, riding the horse, which then turns into a little bit of a horse car race. Michael's at the track again. He's home now in Los Angeles with Gina and her dad. But now he hears every crack of every whip and imagines the wild horses in Montana. He can't enjoy this anymore. They make their way to the winner's circle and even though he's won because again, he's one. Gina's dad's horse freaks out, bucking the jockey onto the ground. While everyone runs away, Michael approaches the horse and is able to calm him down by pulling its reins and rubbing him softly, just like his cousin did for Tommy boy. Horse sense Back at Michael's house. Gina, Gina and her dad.
Sabrina Bryan
God damn it, Gina.
Joey Lawrence
Damn it, Gina. God damn it, Gina. Have arrived to pick him up for Europe. Elena can tell something is bothering Michael, but he says everything's okay. He gets his luggage and makes his way to the limo. But when Gina say it.
Sabrina Bryan
God damn it.
Joey Lawrence
Gina runs out to greet him. He doesn't give his bags to the chauffeur. He's not going. He realizes there's something more important that he has to do. And Gina. God damn it. Gina. Is not happy. We cut to a car dealership where Michael has sold his car. Then he decides to liquidate his trust fund. At the back bank back in Montana, Jules and Tommy are packing up their things. They're sad, but they know things will work out. And then the door opens. It's Michael. He says it's time to unpack. Jules is shocked to see him. Michael hands her a check, but she still can't take it. He says it's an investment, not a free ride. But she says it's a bad investment. She says it's time to move on. Jules tears up, but that's it. It's over. She asked Michael to trust her. They're going to be fine. The next day, they're prepping for the auction. Potential bidders are checking out the items in the front yard. Tommy and Michael bring out some last minute additions, including a trunk that could bring them some extra cash. Tommy says his mom filled it with all of his childhood schoolwork. She, of course, has kept everything like me. They discover some of Tommy's A plus classwork, reminding Michael of his recent D plus. When Tommy asks him what class it was in, Michael remembers it was about real estate and deeds and trusts or something. And then boom, light bulb. That gives him an idea. He's gotta check something out. He calls his dad to recover that test. He wants to know something about land trust trusts. Next thing you know, although why, he would go to his D plus paper where obviously everything he said was wrong.
Sabrina Bryan
Everything was wrong.
Joey Lawrence
That's what I started. Joking. I was watching the thing and I was like, michael, this is one long sentence and none of it makes sense.
Sabrina Bryan
Ask him for your textbook. Where's your textbook? Let's get the actual facts. Michael. Something, not whatever you made up in this essay.
Joey Lawrence
Look exactly. Look for something other than that. It's a good idea. Next thing you know, Michael is running back to the auction. His car is blocked in. So he quickly hops on the lightning and takes the horse all the way to the bank to meet with the man foreclosing on the ranch. He tells the banker his aunt and cousin work hard and he knows there's no such thing as quick fix. But he's done some research and has an idea. The bank has foreclosed on 18 ranches in the last few years and all of these properties are still for sale. He suggest. So essentially what he's saying is you're losing money by doing this.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes.
Joey Lawrence
He suggests a land trust. That way they can work together to make some money. He just needs to take a chance. And just like that, the banker says he'll give it some thought. Back at the ranch, the auction's in full effect. And now the beloved 200 year old armoire they use as the TV stand is up for sale. Jules can't stay. It's too much for her. But just as they're leaving, here comes Michael and Lightning. He cuts off the auctioneer and commanders the mic. He announces this auction is over. Nothing else will be sold and everything will be refunded. He apologizes and sends them home. Jules is mad. What is he doing? She explains they don't have a choice. But Michael says actually they do have a choice. Choice. He reveals a 30 day extension from the bank and tells Tommy that his dad was right. The wild horses are lucky. He then explains land trusts. Because the land supports stray horses, the land trust can protect them and their habitats. So if the land is accepted by the trust, which it should be, the debt will be covered by it. They won't own the land anymore, but they'll get paid to stay where they are and to take care of it. Jules thanks him. But Michael has one last request. He wants to stay in Montana a little longer to see the trust through. This is obviously okay. And we even see Twister and Mule smile a little bit. God, I love Mule. As the bidders leave Mule. That's what I'd have in my wall, my locker. I'd have a picture of Mule. As the bidders leave, Tommy asks Michael one last thing. Do you feel like working on the treehouse? And this time he does. They race off to finish it. And that's our movie. Wow.

To you by Malibu. Hi everyone, it's Chiquis from the Cheekies and Chill podcast. This year I'm putting myself first and that means finding a good work life balance. Joey Lawrence
Sabrina, let's do some real reviews. Yes, I've got the one star and excuse me, I've got the five star this week and it's by the Jew Review.
Sabrina Bryan
Wow.
Joey Lawrence
And he and it reads as follows. Not a load of manure. Sure, this is one of the hardest films to watch because it's not officially on DVD and the VHS is hard to come by. This movie is rewarding in that it does show what love, family and hard work can offer five stars. I agree. I like it. All right, what do you got there, Sabrina?
Sabrina Bryan
I've got a one star by our friend of the podcast, Unamid. Unamid. I've got another one from unnamed. Somebody who wants to say something on the Internet and not claim it. All right, one star. Well, what do you expect from a Disney movie?
Will Friedle
Cheese.
Sabrina Bryan
And over the top heartwarming moments. But John Lawrence is nice to look at. All right.
Joey Lawrence
Okay. For the record, Johnny Lawrence was the bad guy in Karate Kid, so that's their. They're mixing up Lawrence boys.
Sabrina Bryan
Okay, don't give this Unamid person any credit. That is garbage. This movie was great.
Joey Lawrence
It really was. It was. Okay, let's do our. We are, of course, to the part of our program that Sabrina loves. It's our feature presentation. This game, set up by producer Jensen, is called Horse Sense or Sixth Sense. We better hope we were paying attention, because this week we'll be given a movie quote, and we must decide if it's a line from the movie we just recapped.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, geez.
Joey Lawrence
Horse Sense. Or the 1999 breakout mystery thriller Sixth Sense from M. Night Shyamalan. That sounds easy enough, right? Three out of five wins.
Sabrina Bryan
You would think.
Joey Lawrence
Producer Jensen, are you with us?
Producer Jensen
I, I, I think you guys are both horse sensed out.
Sabrina Bryan
Let's see.
Joey Lawrence
I don't know if I'm gonna get this. Okay, first quote. You think you're the only one who has to fight? I'm gonna say Sixth Sense.
Sabrina Bryan
Yeah.
Producer Jensen
Oh, that's funny because it's Horse Sense.
Joey Lawrence
Oh, come on. Who says it when. Twist.
Producer Jensen
Twister.
Joey Lawrence
Oh, God. I just saw this movie.
Producer Jensen
Yeah, I figured, I figured this is going to happen. I was like, I'm like, they just watched it, but I don't think it. I think you're going to be horse sensed out.
Sabrina Bryan
Yeah.
Joey Lawrence
Horse.
Producer Jensen
Unsensible.
Joey Lawrence
Maybe our second quote. I didn't know you were funny. I didn't know you were funny. Sixth Sense.
Sabrina Bryan
Horse Sense.
Producer Jensen
It's Sixth Sense.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes.
Joey Lawrence
Okay, finally got one.
Sabrina Bryan
Who's funny in Sixth Sense, everybody.
Joey Lawrence
That movie was hysterical.
Producer Jensen
We didn't recap Sixth Sense, so I can't tell you.
Joey Lawrence
All right, third quote. You saw that on tv?
Producer Jensen
I do love how just down the line these quotes are.
Joey Lawrence
I know. They're so random.
Producer Jensen
It's like there was one that was like, hello? And I was like, it could be either one.
Joey Lawrence
I can't. You saw that on tv? I'm gonna say that on tv.
Sabrina Bryan
Sixth Sense.
Joey Lawrence
I'm gonna say Horse sense.
Producer Jensen
Splitting it one. It's sixth sense.
Joey Lawrence
Oh, okay. So you've go. Okay. Gotta win.
Producer Jensen
You gotta get both these.
Joey Lawrence
Yep.
Sabrina Bryan
Okay.
Joey Lawrence
And the fourth quote. You think this is a joke?
Sabrina Bryan
Horse sense.
Joey Lawrence
Horse sense.
Producer Jensen
These reads are so good. It's horse sense. Twister. Again.
Joey Lawrence
Yeah.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes.
Joey Lawrence
And number five, I think we've won. Cause number five is I see dead people, which is clearly horse sense. Six cents. Six cents. Did we win?
Producer Jensen
You each got three. Congrats. Another double win.
Joey Lawrence
Yay. We're getting there. I love that. Thank you again.
Sabrina Bryan
That was good. Dang. That was like harder than it should have been.
Producer Jensen
Harder than it should have been.
Sabrina Bryan
Seriously.
Joey Lawrence
But absolutely harder than it should have been.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes.
Joey Lawrence
Can we please do some Sabrina Sees?
Sabrina Bryan
Of course we can. So we are going to. Where are we gonna start here again? I already told you. The. The. Wow. We're not in the bedroom. Just kidding. We are right into the bedroom. Just like right from the beginning, I wanted to go over with. We had a lot of. I don't know, would you call them name drops or kind of either like spin offs of names or name drops. We've talked about a couple of them, but we. We didn't stop at each of them. Like Lethal, the movies of the director.
Joey Lawrence
Lethal Force.
Sabrina Bryan
Lethal Force instead of what is Lethal Weapon. And then we had Tornado instead of the movie at that time, Twister. Right. And then, well, Dances with Wolves was an actual movie. So it has. And that has to have been a Disney movie because that's the only way they would probably been able to use that. Right. And then of course, we also did say the. What was it? Oh, Medieval Times was called.
Joey Lawrence
Knights of the Round Table.
Sabrina Bryan
Knights of the Round Table. I just thought that was interesting. We haven't really seen or heard a lot of that in the dcoms that much. They kind of played with it a lot more. And then along the time, along the line, I said we saw a thing of Mrs. Doubtfire and we saw Brink twice in the movie. So this was a little kind of funny thing. Like you said, Easter eggs or eggs that we got to kind of see or hear.
Joey Lawrence
Well, Matt Lawrence is kind of a walking Easter egg himself.
Sabrina Bryan
Of course. Matt Lawrence, Yeah. His cameo. That's on mine too. Little lingo. Because I thought this was a dated little thing. But it says the mom at the very beginning with Michael says you said no problemo. That's like dated right from when this movie came out. I feel like it's pretty tubular.
Joey Lawrence
I don't know. Is that wrong?
Sabrina Bryan
I feel like this was that was dated, but I don't know. To me, I was like, no problemo. We mentioned it a little bit, but. But this. I want to think I have racked my brain and this is our first college student in a decom. We haven't had anyone in college, have we?
Joey Lawrence
Not been to college?
Sabrina Bryan
Not at all. I don't think.
Joey Lawrence
Unless the only time it's been mentioned, I can think of it being mentioned. The older brother in the Hannah Montana movie is supposed to be going to college.
Sabrina Bryan
See him in college at all? Like David Henry?
Joey Lawrence
We didn't see him.
Sabrina Bryan
No, not David Henry.
Joey Lawrence
Isn't that David Henry?
Sabrina Bryan
No.
Joey Lawrence
Isn't he the older brother from Hannah Montana?
Sabrina Bryan
No, he's from.
Joey Lawrence
Oh, he's from. Jason Earls. Jason Earls.
Sabrina Bryan
Jason was in college. David Henry was in the.
Joey Lawrence
His Wizards of Waverly Place.
Sabrina Bryan
Thank you.
Joey Lawrence
Yes. Yeah, that's it. Y.
Sabrina Bryan
And then I thought it was odd, even though I know we're just kind of getting through it. But when he mentions a hit and run to his parents like that, they were like, oh, that's weird. Like, you could. No, you got a hit and run. I mean, we.
Will Friedle
Let's call the cops.
Sabrina Bryan
Like, you can't just, like, throw out hit and run and not think that you need.
Joey Lawrence
Some guy walked up and stabbed me. It's no big deal.
Sabrina Bryan
Right? Okay. And then again, I have to say, like a rhinestone cowboy. Like, I mean, that guy was so good when he got off the plane. You had to see it. You had to see it. Andy, this is. This is a funny thing for me. After doing our interview and learning so much more about him and how musical he is and hearing it from you a lot, why couldn't he play that triangle?
Joey Lawrence
I think he was trying to be annoying.
Sabrina Bryan
I know, but it just like. Like, it's like, get it in there. Like, what are you doing?
Joey Lawrence
It's triangle. It's triangle.
Sabrina Bryan
It's so funny. Like, I just. You can play the guitar. Like, he plays 11 instruments, but he.
Joey Lawrence
Can'T play the triangle.
Sabrina Bryan
Play the triangle. So when you hang out with him next, just, like, remind him that, like, work on his triangle skills.
Joey Lawrence
That's the best.
Sabrina Bryan
And then I. I got. This was on it. But we obviously find out that it was a horse. But I was kind of thinking for a minute that that three colored paint that he was talking about, quickly after just in a few months minutes, they talk about God's painting. So I went, oh, that must have been where the reference was going. But then, no, it was a horse. So they got me they got me. I thought they were talking about a sunset at some point and then they got me. No, we're talking about a horse.
Joey Lawrence
And that's it. There we go. Thank you so much. And now, of course, we come to the part of our program where we have to rate the film we just saw.
Sabrina Bryan
Yes.
Joey Lawrence
I'm sorry, I'm just figuring out what the rating system should be. Let's do one out of 10. And let's do it.
Sabrina Bryan
If you want to.
Joey Lawrence
I do, I do. And we'll do one. This time is the lowest. And we'll do ten, the best. And our options this week.
Sabrina Bryan
Week.
Joey Lawrence
One out of ten Friends Named Mule, one out of ten movies called Tornado Grass Smoothies. One out of ten Dead Dad Alerts. O. One out of ten high school classes about land deeds even though we think he's in College.
Sabrina Bryan
Yeah.
Joey Lawrence
One out of ten medieval times lawsuits, pyramid schemes. One out of ten 200 year old armoires. Or I'm going to add one out of ten. Goddamn it, Ginas.
Sabrina Bryan
That's two. God damn it, Ginas. We got it.
Joey Lawrence
One out of ten. God damn it, Gina. I think I'm going first this time because I think you went first for the last movie, right?
Sabrina Bryan
No, well. No, you went. Well, we did. On Tuesday we did the Cheetah Girls. So you did.
Joey Lawrence
And I rated first, didn't I?
Sabrina Bryan
Yes.
Joey Lawrence
We wouldn't have started with you, right? Oh, that's right. So then it is your first time. Sorry, my bad. Good.
Sabrina Bryan
Well, because I want to make sure this is like a true, true one because I really liked this movie. It wasn't necessarily one of my favorite movies, but I loved it because especially now that we're getting a chance to do an interview with Joey, the Friends of the Pod being on it, and I loved that they were so freaking good in this movie. This just put the stamp on the royalty of the Lawrence family and what they have and what they should be honored with at the Disney franchises. Right. They were so good. And I really, really, like, enjoyed this movie. But what I liked about it, it wasn't like the high energy, you know, of the musicals that we watch. And it wasn't necessarily super drama driven either. I mean, the drama was there. It was like in the middle. And it was a really easy watch. It was nice. It was slower paced than kind of what, what we've seen, which normally would be like snooze fest for me. I kind of like the pace a little bit faster, but I liked it and I enjoyed it. It was just Like a really easy watch. And so I'm gonna give this an 8.5. God damn it, Ginas.
Joey Lawrence
I love that. I, I couldn't agree with you more. I thought it was a really good movie. I thought they are engaging. They were great together. Andy and Joe just, I thought did really well. The movie made sense. You know, it wasn't a ridiculous premise to why you get this, this guy from Beverly Hills. It, it worked. It worked.
Sabrina Bryan
And there really weren't any holes like.
Joey Lawrence
No, it worked. I mean, there's a couple things. There was a couple obvious stuntmen where it was bad, where it was like, wow, that's not even close to being Joey Lawrence. But other than that, the. I thought again, the actual acting was great. The adults were good. There was accountability for the kids. I, I really like this movie and I'm matching your 8.5. I thought that exact same thing. 8.5. God damn it, Ginas. For this movie. Because I thought this was. It was, it was, it was. This was a. To me, you could not build a better acting family than the Lawrences for decoms. They're perfect for this. It was. I really enjoyed it. I really did. It was heartfelt. Yes, funny. Everything about it was beautifully shot. It looked great. Great lesson.
Sabrina Bryan
Okay, that is something we've got to just quickly hit. This movie was gorgeous. Beautiful. The budget, beautiful. Like it was bigger than what a lot of our dcoms are. The budget looked pretty hefty.
Joey Lawrence
No, it was a beautiful movie and I would suggest anybody go and check it out. So. So there you go. That's our movie. Horse Sense. Our next movie is another very high profile movie. We are recapping a Disney heavyweight, people. It is 2003's Lizzie McGuire movie available to stream on Disney. So get in front of us and watch it before next week if you can. I've never seen a single Lizzie McGuire thing in my entire life. I don't know if she's a wizard, if she deals with horses. I have no idea what Lizzie McGuire does.
Sabrina Bryan
This one, this won't really like mess you up at all, but there's like a cartoon aspect in it.
Joey Lawrence
I love that. Animation is my favorite thing in the world.
Sabrina Bryan
I know you would like it.
Joey Lawrence
So I got animation posters all around me, so love that very much. But we're not done yet here because we got a big Park Hopper episode this week. We've talked about it. We're gonna take it. We're doing it. It's happening. We were Talking to a 90s icon and Michael the City Boy from Horse Sense. It is Joey Lawrence himself. We had a ton of fun talking about not only this movie, but the guy's entire career. Take a listen right now so we can whet your appetite. Was it always going to be you and Andy in the movie? How did the. The whole film come about? Yeah, we put this together for the Disney Channel. Yes.
Sabrina Bryan
Oh, wow.
Joey Lawrence
Okay. Yeah, we actually, we found a couple of great writers, Chad and Kerry Hayes, who are great writers. And yeah, we came up with the idea, sort of pitched it to Gary Marsh and yeah, and they obviously wanted to do something. Something, I promise that's one you do not want to miss. I mean, in all fairness, you shouldn't miss any of our interviews. We're talking to so many Disney legends.
