I'm very curious how you guys are going to feel about this, but I. I just decided I need to go on a. I guess a grammar rant. A writing going on a grant.
Danielle Fishel
A grant?
Will Friedle
A grant.
Ryder Strong
Let's talk about the double em dash.
Danielle Fishel
Oh, the sure fire sign of ChatGPT.
Will Friedle
Yes. What are you talking about? What are you talking about?
Ryder Strong
Okay. You don't know the double M dash?
Will Friedle
I don't know ChatGPT. I've heard of it, but I've never used it.
Ryder Strong
So double M dash is a grammar as a. Oh yeah, of course. The two dashes.
Will Friedle
Punctuation mark.
Ryder Strong
Yes, the punctuation mark. Or the two that it becomes one.
Will Friedle
Right.
Ryder Strong
It's like a slightly longer than a hyphen, longer than a dash. Okay. So I first discovered this in college when I read Emily Dickinson who uses it throughout her poetry. And at the time it drove me crazy. I was like, what is this thing? Just put a colon or a semicolon or a comma. What are you doing? And then something turned in my brain through the course of college. I became obsessed with it. I started using it in everything I write and it become when you know how to use a double em dash. For the last 45 years of my life, it's been my secret weapon. It's like it's the thing that most people don't put into their writing that you could always separate. You never had to use parentheticals the way like other people use them. You never had to use a stupid semicolon, which is like the worst thing in a sentence. It was just elegant and perfect. And by the way, my double em dash style was different than the way AI I uses it. I spaced on either side. So I would do a space, double M dash, space, then letters. That's the way it should be. One of my favorite uses. James Joyce never use quotation marks. I hate quotation marks. I just can't stand them. All the best books don't use quotation marks. James Joyce wouldn't use quotation marks. He would Just double EM dash. And then you'd have a line of dialogue after that. Brilliant. Just so elegant, so easy to read.
Danielle Fishel
And now you have so much punctuation you hate.
Will Friedle
Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
I didn't realize you would say. You're like, I. Semicolons.
Will Friedle
Yeah, I can't stand it. You hate. Exclamation point, exclamation point. Yeah.
Ryder Strong
You know, when you spend your time writing, it's like, this is what you. Yes. So I. Yes, I have passions about this. And it's so ruined by AI right now. Like, because now everybody knows that if you use double M and it's ruined because AI was good enough to realize the secret power of the double EM dash. They knew that it. Them, they. What do we call it?
Will Friedle
It's the it do not give it. Do not give it personality.
Ryder Strong
So Skynet knew that, that, that this was a great elegant. IT just knew. And unfortunately, it's elevated its usage so much that now it's no longer a secret weapon. It's just you're a common writer or you're a cheat if you're using AI and you're not actually writing your own. And I am so pissed off about this.
Will Friedle
Once again, Rider Strong doesn't love something the second it becomes popular.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Will Friedle
Yes, this is a Rider strongism from the time you were a kid. You would love something and then other people would find it to love it too. And you'd be like, I hate it.
Danielle Fishel
He was one of the first people I knew to learn how to use AI and you were using it well before I was using it.
Ryder Strong
Not for writing, but.
Will Friedle
Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
No, not for writing. No, I know. Of course not for writing, but still just for searches knowledge.
Ryder Strong
And I still believe that we should be engaging in some way or because we kind of have to. Because it's like you have to just keep up. But I'm not sure in what way to engage with it anymore. Especially not in writing. Like, I just, you know, I've gone full circle. Like, it was like, this is so funny. This is so interesting. Oh, this could be useful. Oh, no, this could be awful. And now I'm sort of on the awful stage, but I'm like, but I still, you know, you have to keep up with everything.
Will Friedle
The head of one of the studio major studios gave a talk not that long ago where he literally said, he goes, no, the future is AI writes our scripts. Our scripts will be a C, a C minus when they come out from AI. Then we just have to hire a writer for a quarter of the money to rewrite said script and that's the future. And it's like.
Ryder Strong
Which is such the backwards way to think about writing. The actual words on the page are so insignificant compared to the strength of the ideas or the strength of the imagination that goes into it. Right. And you can't always separate those two things. But of course, especially when it comes to filmmaking, the scripts has to come from a human place, a personal, emotional place. When you're outlining the structuring the words, the actual dialogue are the last thing you worry about. That's the icing on the cake. It's not the cake. And so the idea that you would do that as the writing and leave the actual deep structure, real writing work to AI is just the most asinine thing.
Will Friedle
Yes.
Ryder Strong
It won't work, though. I mean, like, I have confidence that it won't work because I think. I think people will see through that or feel through that. You know, like, the nature of our art will be crappy for a while and then there are. People will overthrow it. I mean, like, now, if anything, we gravitate more towards strong, unique voices. And so I think that it's like the problem for me. Yeah, we will.
Will Friedle
The biggest movies, though, are the Marvel movies and stuff like that. That's not unique voices. These are big.
Ryder Strong
But I think when Avengers started, it was unique and it cool. And then it just became schlock because it became the same generic tone. The movies all kind of look the same, they sound the same, and we're all kind of tired of them now, so they have to reinvent with a new type of movie and a new voice.
Will Friedle
A new kind of superhero movie.
Ryder Strong
Yeah, I think. And I think there will always be. Yeah, I do think that a lot of the popular mainstream stuff out there is made to. And it's always been this way. It's made to make it look and feel like other movies or TV shows you've already liked. Right. So there's going to be that. I mean, there's always going to be like, you know, romance novels that just read like every other romance, and there's an audience for that that AI will probably be able to do as well as a lot of those, you know, and then there's always those great romance novelists or any genre who break the rules and do something new and have a unique voice and they rise to the top, and then everybody imitates them for the next five, 10 years, you know, so it's a cycle, and we've just accelerated the cycle so much. And yeah, it's gonna be, like, harder maybe to break through. And, like, that's what I'm really complaining about is that one of my unique traits was my use of the double EM dash. And that's how I look at. You know, that's how I helped craf thought of the voice in my head. And now I can't use that. Like, that tool is so ubiquitous and associated with something that is not unique that it's a little harder for me to. You know, whatever. I'm still gonna use it. I got the spaces on either side. Maybe that's gonna be my identifying.
Will Friedle
Why not make up your own. How about.
Ryder Strong
How about a triple dash?
Will Friedle
Has anybody done that? Have you done a dash and a. Something like make a writer a double
Danielle Fishel
end writing double dash and then one little squiggle. That means, like, a project.
Ryder Strong
Then I'm just writing emojis. I'm just like, yeah, what year did come up with your emojis?
Will Friedle
Yeah, no, I use three dots and three dots, it just. It becomes a crutch, like an ellipsis. I don't like it.
Ryder Strong
Oh, yeah, you know.
Will Friedle
You don't like. No, no, because. Because frankly, I then use them every time I. I should put a comma or another thought, I just put three dots, and it's like, okay, that's not. That's.
Ryder Strong
I think it could be cool. Like, I. You know, whatever can be.
Will Friedle
Yeah, but come up with the writer ism. You got to come up with a writer.
Ryder Strong
You don't want to push it too far, right? This is the. This is the tension of art and writing and anything you. You want to, like, push it, but you don't want to go so far that you're writing. You're making up your own words constantly, which could be cool to have your
Will Friedle
break the mold, rise to the top. Then people imitate you.
Ryder Strong
Of course you want to draw people in. You don't want to alienate them too quickly and make people be like, what is this gobbledygook? I don't even understand what this symbol is. You know, it's. It's just. It's a fun game. That is the game. And unfortunately, the game just got, like, accelerated by this. You know, these Learn large language models or whatever. Like, and it's just ruining it.
Will Friedle
Okay, sorry.
Danielle Fishel
What happened?
Will Friedle
Zoom just. There was some kind of update to Zoom, and my thing's doing all that stuff, so it was recording everything, and now it's telling me I have to navigate. I don't, because it's AI And Skynet
Ryder Strong
knew that we were criticizing it, and it came in and it just, like, shut you down.
Will Friedle
See, this is what happens. Terminator 2 comes out. It now starts to build itself. And now I'm gonna get a knock on my door going, Serra calling them like, no, that's next door. And then my neighbor's gonna be gone.
Ryder Strong
We were at south by Southwest last weekend, and there was a little robot walking around. Like, a full robot walking around. And, like, I'll post video. He came over to a window I was in and flipped me off. And, like, this little. But it was like, just.
Will Friedle
That's a rude bot.
Ryder Strong
Yeah, Y. Creepy little, like, thing. And it's like. In some ways, you're kind of like, oh, it's cute. It's doing the Macarena. It's flipping me off. But then the other hand, you're like, that's a robot just walking around.
Danielle Fishel
Who's controlling the robot?
Ryder Strong
I think. Cause there were people with it. Like, when I saw it in the. When I first saw it, it was in a lobby of, like, where south by was happening. And it didn't seem like there was anybody around. So I thought I was like, is this totally autonomous? But no, the next time when he flipped me off, there were, like, guys hanging out, like, within 10ft, and they had backpacks on. So I think one of them was probably controlling it.
Danielle Fishel
But why would he want to flip you off? Did you approach the guys?
Ryder Strong
So the only thing I can think is my buddy Chris Wilde. No, my buddy Chris Wilde had already. He came across the robot, like, 10 minutes earlier on the ground. Like, it had had an accident and was on the ground. And I think he filmed himself doing something with the. And maybe the guys were, like. When they saw him with me later, they walked up and, like, flipped us off.
Danielle Fishel
I don't know.
Ryder Strong
Or they just recognized me. Or maybe it was just the funny thing that the robot was doing is going around flipping people off because it's cute.
Will Friedle
I would be much more disturbed by the Macarena.
Ryder Strong
How dare you Macarena out me.
Will Friedle
How dare you do that?
Danielle Fishel
What year are you from, robot?
Will Friedle
That's my God.
Ryder Strong
Go back to 1998.
Will Friedle
Figure out when you're from. Yeah. God.

And now, insights into TurboTax business.
TurboTax Host
Jerisha, your journey is pretty incredible. Engineer turned entrepreneur, and now you're helping hundreds of coaches and freelancers build thriving businesses. What made you realize you didn't have to do it all alone.
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
It was when I realized the cost of figuring everything out was too expensive, not just financially, but in my time and my momentum as well.
TurboTax Host
You're now partnering with TurboTax Business, and something we hear from listeners is that talking to a real expert makes all the difference. How does having a TurboTax expert fit into this bigger message of you don't have to go it alone?
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
Yeah, a surgeon wouldn't try to perform an operation on themselves. Most lawyers wouldn't represent themselves in court. I think the same thing needs to be true with how we approach taxes in business, that you shouldn't be trying to do everything and figure it out on your own, especially when those financial decisions that you're making have really large consequences. And that clarity comes from working with someone who actually knows what they're doing, who can remove that layer of anxiety that most business owners are feeling and quietly carrying around, especially as it relates to taxes.
TurboTax Host
And for anyone listening who's been sitting on a business idea or maybe a side hustle, what's one small step they can take to move forward? And how can tapping into a Turbo tax expert help them feel more confident as they get started?
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
Open a separate bank account today, specifically set aside for money for your taxes. It sounds small, but that one act of separation creates clarity that most business owners don't have. You stop panicking at tax time. You stop guessing what's your suspend versus what belongs to the IRS. And then before you file anything, talk to a TurboTax expert.
TurboTax Host
Final question. Where can people find more of your insights or learn TurboTax experts for business?
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
You can find me on Instagram at. I also have a podcast called Jereisha Said. That's where I go deeper on some of these topics. And if today's conversation around the financial side really resonated with you, check out turbotax.com backslash business. Especially if you're a sole proprietor or a single member llc. You're newly self employed trying to file taxes for the first time.

It's free. Welcome to this episode of Pod Meets World. We are recapping season seven, episode 14, I'm gonna be like you, dad. It originally aired January 28th, the year 2000. The synopsis. Corey overreacts to a magazine health test that says he should be dead already. Meanwhile, Eric joins the family business, But Amy and Mr. Feeney think it's a bad idea. I will forever remember this episode as being the episode that we see. The wilderness store and the baby.
Will Friedle
Yes.
Ryder Strong
Right. There's a baby.
Danielle Fishel
The baby.
Will Friedle
Yeah, the baby.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Will Friedle
Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
Welcome back to the baby.
Will Friedle
In just four episodes is eight.
Ryder Strong
I know.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ryder Strong
That's all I kept thinking. And looks completely different.
TurboTax Host
Yeah.
Ryder Strong
Like, the baby's like, blonde with big eyes. Like, nothing like Josh.
Danielle Fishel
Nope.
Will Friedle
And I love how all three of us collectively were like, eh, like three seasons ago. We're like. And there's the end of the wilderness story.
Danielle Fishel
And there it is.
Will Friedle
You never see that again.
Danielle Fishel
Never see that one again.
Will Friedle
Bye.
Danielle Fishel
Nope, they brought it back.
Ryder Strong
I want to hear your overall thoughts. First, Danielle.
Danielle Fishel
It was. Well, hold on. It was directed by Kevin Tracy, and it was written by Gary Miller. This is a completely forgettable episode for me. I'm happy that I got to see Betsy and Rusty and Bill have something to do. Something to do. I don't like what the actual storyline is, though. I don't know where all of a sudden now they. This is the first time they're having a conversation about what Eric's gonna do with his life weeks before he supposedly graduates. Amy and Feeny having this idea that they've always believed in Eric and that no matter what Eric is going to do, he's gonna be okay. Is crazy. He's. He's an. He's an insane kid.
Will Friedle
Right.
Danielle Fishel
Who you shouldn't trust out in the world. And then I honestly, I don't remember what the A storyline is. Or maybe it's a B storyline. What's my role? What do I do in this again? I just literally forgot. Ben is hilarious again. Noah just absolutely hilarious. And off the Chain has been released and is having so much Fun. And that's it. I would never remember this episode existed.
Will Friedle
I couldn't disagree more. I felt like I was watching a Boy Meets World episode again.
Ryder Strong
Thank you, Will.
Will Friedle
Thank God.
Ryder Strong
Yes.
Will Friedle
Will Feeny with a lesson. Alan and the. The boys doing stuff. The B story. Hysterical. I was like, thank God Boy Meets World is back.
Danielle Fishel
Oh, my God, Will.
Ryder Strong
Best episode of season seven.
Will Friedle
I think I agree with you 100%.
Danielle Fishel
Maybe the best of season seven, actually.
Ryder Strong
I just felt like exactly the same thing. It was like, oh, we don't. We haven't lost it. We haven't lost it.
Will Friedle
Nope, nope. Eric. I brought it down a little bit. I wasn't just off the chain.
Danielle Fishel
No, you were fantastic.
Ryder Strong
It was character based. All the storylines were based on characters that we've established.
Will Friedle
Right.
Ryder Strong
Eric's problems are. And Alan's issues with Eric. It all made sense to their.
Will Friedle
Maitland and Jack had things to do. Even though it was. They were just there. They still had stuff to do. We were back in the wilderness. It felt familiar. Feenies there giving lessons to Alan as opposed to Eric. Oh, I loved it.
Ryder Strong
It felt like a season five. Agreed.
Will Friedle
I said that to Sue. I was like, we could be watching a season five episode right now.
Danielle Fishel
It's entirely possible. I've. This show is just too far gone for me. That. The fact that now they do one, I'm like, great. What's.
Will Friedle
What the.
Danielle Fishel
Is this. Where did the. Where did the rest of the non. Like, what is happening? But it did. And the funny thing is, you're right. It does feel like a season five episode. And I didn't then feel comforted by it. I felt like, what is this? What is the show? The whiplash. So it didn't feel. I didn't feel comforted by it. I felt like, well, this one's out of the. Out of the zeitgeist of season seven. This is a. This is a throwaway episode I won't remember in the. I mean, next week is the war.
Ryder Strong
I saw that too.
Will Friedle
I was like, oh, my God. We're and one away from. From Plays With Squirrels. We're like, Plays With Squirrels is right around the corner.
Ryder Strong
I know.
Danielle Fishel
And I did feel the thing that kind of frustrated me about it was, oh, we're back to caring about Eric's life. Like, Eric has been off the rails. Eric has been. Eric has lost. I thought we lost all sense for the show of what are these characters
Ryder Strong
futures treating us like children in a way. Right, Right.
Danielle Fishel
And so it did feel like, well, what? Yeah, I don't know. It felt. It felt. It just. Yeah, it did. I should. I wish I had felt comforted by it the way you guys did.
Will Friedle
Me too.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah. I wish that's what I. I wish I had felt that way. Cause it is. It is. It's just all the things we love about the previous seasons. It just feels so. I think I'm at. I am. I am burnt out.
Will Friedle
Yeah, I get that.
Danielle Fishel
With the lack of understanding about what our show.
Will Friedle
Something as simple as. They never ever should have gotten rid of the kitchen. Just going into the kitchen and watching people walk in there again.
Ryder Strong
Get something from there.
Danielle Fishel
Get that soda from the fridge.
Will Friedle
I tap, tap. I was like, I'm gonna tap it. I'm gonna tap it. Like, it's just same thing.
Danielle Fishel
If I had to pick one thing that I would say brought down degraded, degraded boy meets world. For me, it's the student union.
Will Friedle
Yeah.
Ryder Strong
I don't disagree. I don't disagree.
Danielle Fishel
The student union set replaced so many much more valuable essential classroom.
Ryder Strong
They replaced the classroom, the hallway, backyard, kitchen. Yeah.
Will Friedle
Living room.
Ryder Strong
It was trying to do too much. It's trying to do too much.
Will Friedle
Boys bedroom.
Ryder Strong
All of it should have been a coffee shopish space. Right. That's its own thing. And then there should have been either a dorm living room area, like a dorm. Actual sitting area which is. Exists. Right. You have living rooms with the TV in. Dorm rooms where you all share the common area. Could have just been that. And then someone should always be living at the Matthews.
Danielle Fishel
Yes.
Ryder Strong
Like Eric should be living with the Matthews. Like they should have. Like, oh, he's going to help raise the baby. That'll be his job. And he's going to be the nanny. So he's always there. So then we all have reasons to go there. And we're hanging out the Matthews. And then we haven't adjusted the whole show. You're right. It's. It's crazy how important sets are. Right. Like even feeling the wilderness door was just like, oh, weird. Right. It just felt like, right. This is a space that we could have been using. It's. Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
And having. Trying to act as though the student union was still gonna be a spot where Feeny felt like he could impart his wisdom. It doesn't. It feels like a set for tons of background and that then you put the main actors in the middle of it. And even because it's so big and it's so deep and there's so many people in there. In order to make it look like a college campus, we feel like we're Fighting for attention in the space and we lose in. It's so great to have those. The adults that we have grounding our show and. And giving them their. Giving their pieces of wisdom, and they. They are so lost.
Will Friedle
So that now, Ryder, now I'm just thinking about an episode where Eric is left with both Morgan and Josh, and by the end, it's Morgan that's taking care of both of them.
Danielle Fishel
Yes, exactly.
Will Friedle
And it gives her something to do. And she's like, eric burnt himself in the toaster. Right. And she becomes the mom and she's taking care of everything. It's the two of them crying on the couch, the baby and Eric.
Danielle Fishel
Baby and Eric crying.
Will Friedle
I mean, like, stuff would have been great, but no, man, seeing those again. I'm sorry it didn't give you comfort. The second I saw them, I was like, oh, we're back.
Ryder Strong
Yeah, it felt so. It felt really nice.
Will Friedle
I agree.
Danielle Fishel
Well, jumping into our guest stars, we have got Ralph Monza as Uncle Mory, a character actor whose career spanned almost 50 years with over 160 appearances on TV and in movies. He appeared on shows like Perry Mason, the Twilight Zone, Growing Pains, and Seinfeld.
Will Friedle
Who is Ian Seinfeld?
Danielle Fishel
He was Geppetto in Cigar Shop Indian.
Ryder Strong
Oh, okay.
Danielle Fishel
Feels wrong to say.
Will Friedle
I got it. Hey, wait. You're 45 minutes late. What are you doing here? That's right. He owned the cigar store. There you go.
Danielle Fishel
Oh, my gosh. I can't. I still. It's still shocking to me every time you do that. But Monza is probably best known for his role in Mel Brooks Blazing Saddles, where he played Hitler.
Ryder Strong
Oh, my God.
Danielle Fishel
Monza died in the year 2000 at the age of 70.
Ryder Strong
Oh, my God.
Will Friedle
He died right after it. Oh, God.
Ryder Strong
He died right after. This might have been his last. This was January.
Danielle Fishel
We killed him.
Ryder Strong
We killed him.
Will Friedle
God, he was like, season seven of Boy Meets World did it for me.
Ryder Strong
Is not that old.
Danielle Fishel
Well, not at all. What month did he die? This was. This aired January, so we probably filmed it in November. Like, oh, I'm dying to.
Ryder Strong
You're dying to know.
Danielle Fishel
Disneyland.
Ryder Strong
Refresh.
Will Friedle
Such a weird part.
Danielle Fishel
Such a weird part. So weird.
Ryder Strong
But also just. Who cares? When you said that Ben was so good, I was like, right. Whenever he's the B story, whenever Cory's craziness is like, just craziness for its own sake, and we don't have to have like a 14 minute therapy scene, it's great. And Ben is so much funnier and the whole character comes to life. It's like, oh, this is just hysterical.
Will Friedle
Well, that was some of our favorite seasons writers when you and I were trading off A stories and Ben was the B story because he was so good.
Danielle Fishel
I know. So, so funny. Yep. We have ted Carey's as Dr. Feldspar. Carries can be seen in movies.
Ryder Strong
That scene is so funny.
Will Friedle
Another drive by. This guy's awesome.
Danielle Fishel
Unbelievable.
Ryder Strong
Ben and him just come to each other and you're like, the whole show could have been this. If we look oh, so good.
Danielle Fishel
He can be seen in movies. Legally Blonde, Austin Powers and Blast from the past in TV shows like Sabrina, that 70s show and Judging Amy. His last credit was in 2003.
TurboTax Host
And now insights into TurboTax Business Jerisha, your journey's pretty incredible engineer turned entrepreneur, and now you're helping hundreds of coaches and freelancers build thriving businesses. What made you realize you didn't have to do it all alone?
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
It was when I realized the cost of figuring everything out was too expensive. Not just financially, but in my time and my momentum as well.
You stop guessing what's yours to spend versus what belongs to the IRS. And then before you file anything, talk to TurboTax expert.
TurboTax Host
Final question. Where can people find more of your insights or learn TurboTax experts for business?
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
You can find me on Instagram @jereishahawk. I also have a podcast called Euresha Said. That's where I go deeper on some of these topics. And if today's conversation around the financial side really resonated with you, check out turbotax.com backslash business. Especially if you're a sole proprietor or a single member llc, you're newly self employed trying to file taxes for the first time.
TurboTax Host
Jereisha, thank you so much for joining us today.
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
I'm really happy to be here.
Will Friedle
Thanks for having me giving you the

So, jumping into our recap. We are outside the student union. Corey happily munches on some onion rings with Topanga seated beside him with a magazine. While this is the other thing. It started off with the makeout scene.
Will Friedle
I was worried, so I was worried. I was like, oh, no, it's gonna be one of these.
Ryder Strong
I've cut my hair.
Will Friedle
Yes.
Ryder Strong
Which was a big mistake.
Danielle Fishel
Really?
Will Friedle
You think?
Danielle Fishel
So you're admitting you look great?
Ryder Strong
I thought you look great.
Will Friedle
Yeah.
Ryder Strong
I was like, who is this?
Danielle Fishel
Like, no, I mean, yeah, it is a little shocking. It was like, whoa.
Ryder Strong
Yeah. I suddenly felt what Michael and the producers were fighting for, which is like, part of your character is your. Your hair. Like, you can't help it. And, like, obviously, I did not want to be this character anymore, or I wanted to define the character on my own terms and, like, own it. And I wanted to cut my hair in real life. So I fought for it. And now that I got it and I can see it, I'm like, yeah, it doesn't look bad, but it's also not Shawn anymore, which is, like, the whole point. That is the whole point. It's, you know, and that's what's tough about being an actor, especially a kid. Actors, you just don't have control over those things. And you feel it.
Danielle Fishel
Yes. Yeah. And you do. You feel it in your regular life. You're like, I am growing. And in my next phase of life, I don't have this hair anymore. And there's that struggle of, like, and I'm not gonna, you know, live as this character forever, but I am.
Ryder Strong
I'm going to be podcasting about it in 30 years.
Danielle Fishel
It's okay.
Ryder Strong
Ryder, you had a break in the middle.
Will Friedle
Ryder, you had a break in the
Ryder Strong
middle, and you found yourself, and you
Danielle Fishel
came back to who you really were.
Ryder Strong
I went off. I discovered the double M. Dash.
Will Friedle
I was going to say dash. Dash. You're good.
Danielle Fishel
It's okay, Sean. You're fine. Shut up.
Will Friedle
Topanga. Don't you dare.
Danielle Fishel
Don't you dare. Topanga is seated beside him with a magazine, while Shawn and Angela are locked in a full on make out session across the table.
Will Friedle
I was worried. I was so worried at that point, I was like, oh, here we go.
Danielle Fishel
It's gonna just set me off. And it set me off. I was. Maybe I was just grumpy after this.
Will Friedle
Not a good start though. You're 100% right.
Danielle Fishel
Corey announces. Sean, I think I've discovered a new taste treat. Then dunks an onion ring in sauce. He pushes it toward a protesting Sean, I'm in the middle of Bakori shuts him up by stuffing the onion ring right into his mix mouth. Shawn's face lights up m cheesy. He turns back to Angela and tells her to prove that she loves him. With that, the inmates holler and she leans in to start making out again, despite his onion breath.
Ryder Strong
Gross.
Danielle Fishel
Corey admires the couple. Look at her like a water Pick this one. Topanga, how come you never lick the food off my teeth? Topanga shrugs. Because we're married now. I don't have to.
Ryder Strong
What's worse? What's worse? This or pookie pook?
Danielle Fishel
Oh, there's no doubt. Pookie poop is the worst.
Ryder Strong
There's something about like kissing onion rings and teeth that I'm just like, that's so gross.
Danielle Fishel
Like, yeah, it's pretty gross, but I. I don't love little nicknames for things.
Will Friedle
But again, you didn't mind when Ryder said, topanga, let's make nicht. Like, that was. That was funnier, I think, than pookie.
Ryder Strong
You said it. Wait, what do you mean?
Will Friedle
Yeah, that's what I said. When? When didn't I say yeah? Oh, when. When Eric says yeah, I think. Yeah, when Eric says, let's make Nick Nick.
Danielle Fishel
No, but that's funny because it's like sounds.
Ryder Strong
No pookie.
Will Friedle
So that's not the way to your heart is by saying, let's go make some pookie poop.
Danielle Fishel
No. No. Oh, God.
Will Friedle
Let's go bubble. How about lick my toes during pookie pook? Does that work?
Ryder Strong
Suck on my toe.
Will Friedle
Suck on my toe during pookie poop.
Danielle Fishel
You know what I've never thought a tarantulas sound are sounding better almost every day. I'm getting close. You guys are. You guys are desensitizing me to spiders somehow. It's. It's pretty amazing.
Will Friedle
Danielle's just gonna be on Fear Factor.
Ryder Strong
We just need a list of these words. The vocab. The horrible vocab of world, like the
Will Friedle
giant book of stink. Cole,
Danielle Fishel
we should have a vocab section of the book.
Will Friedle
Oh, God, that's a great idea.
Danielle Fishel
Topanga shrugs. Okay. She brings him back to the task at hand. This is your last question. Do you ever have difficulty performing in bed? Corey laughs at the thought. Why don't you tell me? She playfully chuckles and then marks down, yes. Yes. Korey's smile drops and he whispers, hey, Topanga. She ignores him and tells the group, let's tabulate our score. Corey whispers to her again. Hey, last night I had a stomach ache. Oh, add it to the list. He gives Shawn and Angela a casual grin before negging Topanga. You didn't take care of me, by the way. Again, Topanga brushes him off for the group. Let's see who's gonna live the longest. Corey isn't giving up. Peaches, I can't help but notice that you're ignoring me. Unfazed, she announces, Shawn and Angela are going to live well into their 80s according to the this I should live to be a hundred. This is fun. Corey grins. What about me? What about my longevity? Topanga tallies his score and pauses for a moment. Good for you, honey. Corey responds back like a little kid. Good for Corey. I'm gonna live to be a hundred, too. Topanga laughs and breaks the news. No. You prove these people wrong by being alive right now. Corey snatches the magazine and tallies his score himself. Meanwhile, Angela and Sean remind him it's just a magazine. He shouldn't take it seriously. Nicely, Corey checks his score and declares, you want to know what's weird about this? All of a sudden, I can't feel my legs. Sean sighs. Oh, here we go. Topanga realizes what she's done. My life just got really bad. Corey dramatically asks, your husband can't feel his legs. What are we gonna do about this? Topanga suggests, movie. Anyone want to see a movie? And gets up to leave. Corey stops her. Wait a minute. If you're not going to take care of me now, who's going to take care of me when I get old? Topanga shakes her head and leaves, with Shawn and Angela close behind. Shawn reminds Angela it'll be dark in a movie theater, and she gives him a little wink in response.
Will Friedle
That's when I yelled, you have rooms. You could be balls deep in each other right now. Anywhere you want. In your room. What the hell is happening? I just.
Ryder Strong
It doesn't make any sense.
Will Friedle
Like, we need to make out in front. It's like you've got rooms.
Danielle Fishel
I know, I know. It's dark in a movie theater. Like, let's Go pay a lot of money to kiss in private in a dark room with a bunch of people.
Ryder Strong
That's what you do when you are in high school and you can't go anywhere.
Will Friedle
Yes.
Ryder Strong
Right, Right.
Will Friedle
Plenty places to go.
Ryder Strong
You lived together, for God's sake.
Will Friedle
It's like.
Danielle Fishel
I know. Don't you still live together? No.
Ryder Strong
That was a weird shuffle. That's right. The boys are back in the apartment.
Will Friedle
The boys are back at the apartment. Though not this week. Cause we needed the room.
Danielle Fishel
Right? Cory, still seated, screams out to Topanga in desperation, honey, I'm dying and you're going to a mov. Nice wife. And then we're in the Matthews kitchen. Amy is setting the table when Allan walks in with some news. But he's quick to hide and close the door because there's nothing behind him. There's no set back there. Exactly. Do you see every time somebody walks
Ryder Strong
through that door, they're like, get around that quick corner.
Danielle Fishel
Pitch black back.
Will Friedle
Get around that quick corner.
Danielle Fishel
You'll never guess what happened down at the store today.
Ryder Strong
Here we are.
Will Friedle
He owns the W. I know. We all just went, hey, the store's still there.
Ryder Strong
Yep.
Danielle Fishel
Amy guesses a customer came in. Alan nods yes. And bought a tent. First one since that stinkin Blair Witch movie came out. This was funny. I love that they tied.
Ryder Strong
Yep. And a way to like make a reference to the fact that we haven't heard about the wilderness because it's been dying.
Will Friedle
Yep.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Will Friedle
This is the equivalent of they would have, like, people are going back in the water after Jaws came out. It's like the same kind of thing.
Danielle Fishel
Yes. This is very funny. You know what this means? People aren't afraid of the woods anymore. Amy exclaims, they're camping again. Alan hoists her into the air and says, yes, life is good. Nothing can stop us now.
Ryder Strong
Set up.
Danielle Fishel
And on cue, Eric walks in narrowly with a huge grin on his face. The audience goes wild for him.
Ryder Strong
You got a pause.
Will Friedle
I got like a full on like entrance applause.
Danielle Fishel
You are Rue McClanahan.
Will Friedle
Exactly.
Danielle Fishel
Yes.
Ryder Strong
On your own show.
Will Friedle
Isn't that amazing?
Ryder Strong
It's like you're a guest star.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Will Friedle
It was crazy.
Ryder Strong
It was crazy. I mean, it's awesome. Dude. It's such a tribute to like how, how well you've been doing this season. Building up Eric. I also, I mean, I do think it's a setup. Right? Like, he says, nothing wrong. Basically, he's like, nothing wrong could ever happen.
Danielle Fishel
And the audience is like, I bet
Ryder Strong
Eric, here it comes. But it's like, man, it was nice.
Will Friedle
Yeah, I heard that. I was like, oh my God.
Ryder Strong
So cool.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah. Really, really special. Doesn't happen. It's never happened for a series regular on our show.
Will Friedle
So, yeah, it was very special. Special. It felt nice.
Danielle Fishel
He announces to his parents, I've decided to join the family business. Allan's smile quickly sours. No, no, no, no. Eric wonders, is this like the happiest day of your life or what?
Ryder Strong
And this is the part that really did bump me. Like, he's never worked there before.
Danielle Fishel
Right?
Ryder Strong
He worked there for two and was fired at least.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Will Friedle
And that was a storyline was. Was he had to fire him with the bear.
Danielle Fishel
Yes.
Will Friedle
So he literally comes to him and they sits him down and says, eric, you're fired. So it was like, it was a major story point.
Ryder Strong
It just seems like an easy thing to be like, dad coming back. This is gonna be my life. And then Alan being like, no, we can't do that because of what happened in the past. Instead, it's like as if this is a whole new idea for everybody. It's really strange.
Will Friedle
Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah. Alan gets right to the point. Eric, you can't work in my store. Eric wonders why not? And Allan decides to lie. I sold it. It's gone. Sorry. Eric responds, that's too bad, Jack. Rachel and I were thinking about what we were going to do with our last lives. Amy understands. You're freaked out about graduation. Eric admits, I was until I realized I wanted to work with my dad. Allen winces. Too bad. Amy tries to talk some sense into him. This is your son. Allan doesn't care. Too bad. He whispers to Amy. Things are starting to turn around. Amy whisper shouts back, shame on you. And Allan suggests then you work with him. He quickly changes the subject. Hey, what about school? Cool. Eric explains, I'm only taking two classes, so I can actually put in a full week Monday through Friday. But I won't work on Saturday. I have respect for my Jewish peeps.
Will Friedle
Great.
Danielle Fishel
He pounds his chest in solidarity. Amy continues to work on Alan. Remember how we were worried about Eric's F U T U r? Eric laughs. Oh, Ma, you don't have to worry about my furniture. Alan buries his face in his hand while Amy continues to chip away at her husband. Husband? No. This would be a great opportunity for him to get some real life work experience. Eric was thinking the same thing. And what could be better than working with his dad? Allen offers a suggestion. Meatpacking plants. They're better because they're in Wisconsin. Go to Wisconsin. Eric Amy jumps in. Your father's just kidding. She stares Allen down and asks, aren't you? He sighs, Yeah, I guess. Eric beams, Good. Cause I got a lot of neat ideas for the store. Try to follow me here. We hang little pine trees off the real pine trees to give the whole forest that new car smell.
Will Friedle
I got. I remember getting Rusty during. I think it was the first run through because I had thrown in like, try to follow me because I'm doing a lot of this. And he just lost it during the run through. And this is when he and I just. When we were working together again, really just started riffing with each other. And it was. He became one of my. One of the most fun people to work with. He went from like me being like, this guy hates me. He doesn't want to have anything to do with me, does not respect me as an actor to like, oh, I get to do a scene with Rusty. It was an interesting progression to watch as an actor.
Danielle Fishel
Yes, for sure. Alan just stares at him. Eric boasts, I have so many ideas that it frazzles me once in a while. So I'm going to go upstairs and keep thinking about him. And with that he runs away.
Ryder Strong
Where's he going to go? Upstairs. To what?
Danielle Fishel
To the baby. Baby's room.
Ryder Strong
To the baby's room. He's gonna hang out in the baby's. Of course.
Danielle Fishel
He sits in the baby's room all the time. He gets. Climbs into the crib. That's where he gets his best ideas. Alan's frozen, horrified about the future. He finally begs Amy, take this frying pan and hit me on the head as hard as you can. Amy grabs the pan without hesitation. Okay. And then we're in the doctor's office. New set alert. Corey is in his boxers and a tank top. When the doctor walks in. Corey holds up an empty cup and admits he couldn't pee in it. The doctor asks, so what seems to be the problem? Corey explains, I took a test the other day and it said that my type A personality.
Will Friedle
I think he meant beta.
Ryder Strong
Couldn't he just say anxious? My anxious personality?
Danielle Fishel
Correct. There is nothing about Corey that is type A.
Will Friedle
Type A?
Danielle Fishel
No, no.
Will Friedle
Topanga's type A.
Danielle Fishel
Correct.
Will Friedle
That's the point.
Danielle Fishel
Correct. That my type A personality and love of cheese makes me a ticking bomb. The doctor wonders, what kind of test did you take? Corey explains. Couples magazine, Courtney Cox, David Arquette issue. The doctor calls David Arquette a good looking guy and then takes Corey's blood pressure.
Ryder Strong
Corey reveals, oh, which I just realized it's a low key plant. About the gay joke later.
Danielle Fishel
What?
Will Friedle
Yeah, that when Corey asks, are you gay, good looking guy?
Ryder Strong
And he goes, no, are you? And the doctor says, yes, I am. But it's planted earlier with Court. He calls out. He calls out David Arquette and says, that's a good looking guy.
Will Friedle
The way the guy delivered that. That line too.
Ryder Strong
I just got it. I was like, that's so funny.
Will Friedle
But just the way he blew past that. That David Aret. I was like, okay, I can't. Like I sat forward. I was like, this is going to be a good comedy scene. Like, this is going to be a good comedy scene. He was so good right away. Like, oh, yes. I can't wait.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, yeah. I. God, I had no idea what you were talking about. I was like, what do you mean? I didn't even think about that. But you're right.
Ryder Strong
It it.
Danielle Fishel
And it also has a similar joke to the last episode we did.
Will Friedle
Yes. I was worried at first when he said that. When he's like, are you gay? I was like, we're gonna do another gay. Then I was like, oh, they did it again.
Danielle Fishel
They nailed.
Will Friedle
They did it again.
Danielle Fishel
Y Corey reveals, my longevity results revealed I should have actually died last Tuesday. The doctor nods. All right, I see. He responds to the blood pressure results with an inquisitive. Corey is panicking. All right. I hate that immediately. The doctor assures him, sometimes patients get a little nervous coming in and their blood pressure goes up. Corey's happy to hear that. But the doctor wasn't finished. Finished. Although I'm not sure that's happening in your case. Corey is startled. Wait a minute. Do you really think there's something wrong with me? The doctor responds, Would you like for there to be something wrong? Corey insists, no. Why would I want something to be wrong? That would be crazy. The doctor continues on with the exam. Do you have a history of a mental illness in the family? Corey responds, no, I don't. I do have an uncle that thinks he's Sammy Sosa. The doctor asks. Institutional finalized. Corey nods. Yeah, but they let him out for spring training.
Ryder Strong
Such do we think this is?
Danielle Fishel
I don't know. But I love the lore of Corey's family. Nana Boo Boo.
Ryder Strong
Nana Boo Boo.
Will Friedle
Yeah, you're right. Amy's older brother, like, who is 20 years older.
Ryder Strong
Like 30 years older. Like if he's 78 and she's probably 50 at this point.
Danielle Fishel
Not even.
Ryder Strong
Yeah, she's like 40s.
Danielle Fishel
40s.
Will Friedle
Yeah. He should have said, great uncle. I have a great uncle.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Will Friedle
Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
The doctor looks at his notes. I see here you've got a tummy ache and that your brain hurts and you've lost all feelings in your legs. Corey asks, could you tell my wife that I want you to write her a note? The doctor also reads that Corey's a newlywed. Things going well? Corey immediately gets defensive. Why? Because she's not here. Is that what makes you question my marriage? The doctor asks. Ever have trouble performing in bed? Corey whispers, why did she call you?
Ryder Strong
The dialogue is just so sharp. So good.
Will Friedle
It's fast and it's witty and great. It's awesome.
Danielle Fishel
The doctor says no and notices. You're very sensitive about all this, aren't you? Corey admits he is. And the doctor wants to know, are you gay? Corey's a bit shocked. No. Are you? The doctor quickly responds, yes, I am. And we get a laugh. The doctor puts away his notes. I'd like to check you for a hernia now. Corey's all for it. I want that and every other test you got because we are not going to stop until we find something wrong with me. The doctor assures him, I'm a firm believer that the patient knows his body best. Where would you like me to start? Corey raises his arm. My armpit hurts. Right here. This one. And the doctor starts his examination.
Will Friedle
This. I think I could put this up there in the top five or ten guest star scenes of all time. It was fast, it was sharp. Every moment worked. It was great.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah. This was the highlight of the episode for me, that scene.
Will Friedle
I don't disagree. It was awesome.
Ryder Strong
So who else would be up there? Ubaldo, the dancer.
Danielle Fishel
The haircut episode.
Will Friedle
Dam as the haircut.
Ryder Strong
Dom and Ubaldo.
Will Friedle
And you'd have to put Rue McClanahan up there just for the television history of it all.
Danielle Fishel
It was our first season at prom.
Will Friedle
The hotel clerk was great.
Ryder Strong
Hotel Kirk was great.
Danielle Fishel
Jensen loved the real estate agent who took Cory and Topanga around. I didn't. It wasn't as memorable for me. But Jensen loved her with the one
Will Friedle
where he tried to sell the house.
Danielle Fishel
Hello?
Will Friedle
Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Will Friedle
From laughing.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Will Friedle
Yeah. Okay. Yeah, she was great. I mean, do you put a Phil Leeds, one of the Phil Leeds characters
Danielle Fishel
in there somewhere chomping on broccoli?
Ryder Strong
Yeah. I don't know. I like the one. I'm thinking, like, just one scene. Like, what about the person who just has one scene? Like, they're not, like, major guest star. It's the drive bys.
Danielle Fishel
The drive bys.
Ryder Strong
We should. We should compile a list Because I am very.
Will Friedle
Some great ones.
Danielle Fishel
We have a lot of lists to make.
Ryder Strong
Yeah, Today's the list day.
Will Friedle
Today's a list day with a vocabulary list.
Danielle Fishel
So I'm saying vocabulary list. And this one scene.
Will Friedle
Who's the guy?
Danielle Fishel
Long time ago.
Will Friedle
Also is gay. He's at your school. He walks.
Ryder Strong
Oh, yeah. He's like a wrestler.
Will Friedle
Who? Football player.
Ryder Strong
Topanga. He like yells out, that guy was great. Or whatever.
Will Friedle
That's right.
Ryder Strong
Okay. Steve.
Will Friedle
That guy was great too. Yeah, there's been some. Oh, Kenny. Oh yeah, Kenny from. From the Scream. So with the pencil in the head.
Ryder Strong
That's more than one scene though.
Will Friedle
So you're talking. You just want a one hit wonder.
Ryder Strong
Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
Okay.
Ryder Strong
Or maybe, maybe two. Because I mean, I mean the model I'm thinking is the haircut Dom.
Will Friedle
But he did multiple scenes.
Ryder Strong
I know he did multiple scenes, so that kind of destroys my argument.
Will Friedle
But yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Danielle Fishel
Maybe one set, you know, like he.
Ryder Strong
Yeah, like they're only associated with like one set.
Danielle Fishel
One set.
Ryder Strong
Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
Okay then. We're in the Matthew's kitchen. Allan is telling Feeny and Amy all about Eric's impressive people skills and how great he's doing at the store. Am I to understand that this was his first day?
Ryder Strong
Yes. And it's like, why would you not know this about Eric? This is. This goes back to like just, just like, oh, he's doing it again. He's charming everybody. That's all it takes. You can have the. The same scene but just refer to the fact that you know what he's. Everyone loves him and I can't get rid of. Yeah, like that's fine.
Danielle Fishel
Yes. This is something we've talked about with my oldest son already. Adler can be the mayor. Like he's going to be the mayor of the con. The way Will is. Adler walk. Anytime we're at the baseball field, he knows everybody. And when he sees somebody he knows, he'll be like, I'll be right back. And he runs over there just to say hi.
Ryder Strong
It's because he's looks maxing. He knows he's looks maxing.
Danielle Fishel
He wants everyone to know he's there.
Ryder Strong
Sigma.
Will Friedle
He's Sigma.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah. He's mogging in every picture. And it's like he's.
Ryder Strong
That's so awesome. What a great life skill.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah. We talk about it all the time with him. That both Jensen and I say I admire you. We say it to him. I admire your people skills so much, Adler. I know that about my 6 year old. How do they know that about your
Will Friedle
22 year old, by the way. Being able to do, do that is absolutely a superpower.
Danielle Fishel
It really is.
Will Friedle
It is. Walk into a room and own the room. It is a superpower. It really is.
Danielle Fishel
It doesn't matter what situation we put him in. He's just started a dance class. The only reason he agreed to do the dance class was because he had another male friend that was already doing it. He went to the first dance class. That male friend was there. Every other dance class. That kid has not been back. Adler's never once batted an eye. He just walks in and immediately gets right to dance. Friends with everybody, gets right to it. You put him in soccer. All right, I'm here to tackle this. You put him in baseball. I'm here to tackle this. It doesn't matter where you put him. New camp. Got it. I'm here.
Ryder Strong
I am so awesome.
Danielle Fishel
It's incredible. It's incredible.
Will Friedle
Is he still doing karate?
Danielle Fishel
Still does karate?
Will Friedle
Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
Still. He's karate, baseball, basketball, dance.
Ryder Strong
Damn.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Ryder Strong
You have no free time at all?
Will Friedle
No.
Danielle Fishel
None at all. Absolutely none.
Will Friedle
He's six years old. He should have his own car and ability to get places by this point.
Danielle Fishel
Can you imagine, imagine how cool Adler's gonna be when he has a car.
Will Friedle
Oh, no, I can't. He's already gonna be a dancing karate baseball player, which is the coolest thing ever.
Danielle Fishel
No, he's already got swag and athletic. Athletic skills. And.
Will Friedle
And he's gonna have ABs by 8.
Danielle Fishel
He already has abs. He has abs. He's been working on him. I'm telling you. He's a looks maxer. Amy smiles as she pours him some coffee. So Eric did good. Alan shrugs. Yeah, he actually did good. Good. Why don't they know how to.
Will Friedle
I know this. This. You had to. You really had to let this go because it was. He literally worked there and was fired for exactly the opposite reason. So. Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
So why do they say he really did good?
Will Friedle
For the same way we're giving up a lot of things, like in the last episode where we're like, are they. Do they not watch our show? You're throwing things out of the window
Ryder Strong
that are one or two line fixes.
Will Friedle
It's Topanga and Cory's first fight. No, it's not. We've watched this for seven years. We know it's not their first fight. It's such an evil, easy fix.
Ryder Strong
Yeah, it's all serialized questions, though. I wonder. Wonder if this is like a network note. Like, we haven't seen this for two years. You got to reestablish why Eric is here. What? And it's like, right, okay. So they just decide to throw. You know, to cheat. And on the level of language, I don't know. It's really annoying though.
Will Friedle
Yeah. It just doesn't make any sense.
Danielle Fishel
Feeny reminds them Eric was always a people person. Amy nods. Yes, but we also know Eric is so. You know. Know. Alan cuts her off. Nuts. Amy disagrees. No, eccentric. Eric has always marched to the beat of a different drummer, which he did not for the first several years of the show.
Will Friedle
It was absolutely the drum that everybody else was marching to.
Danielle Fishel
You were the same teenage boy drum,
Will Friedle
100% the same drum.
Danielle Fishel
Feeny insists. Most creative people do, Allan admits. We've spent a lot of sleepless nights worrying about Eric. Amy explains. I worried, but I always believed he'd to be able okay. But Allan wasn't so sure. Feeny wonders why and Allan scoffs. You're his teacher. You know why. But Feeny doesn't know why. Amy's confused too. What are you getting at, Allen? He throws his arms in the air. Nothing. Don't gang up on me. Feeny says that Eric always did the best he could, which is the most he can ask of any student. Allan reminds him, we're talking about Eric stepping into the real world. It's not so easy out there. Feeny agrees. No, it isn't. And I understand your concern for your children. Children? Allan corrects him. Eric. I'm concerned about Eric. My other kids are doing just fine. Are they? I know all.
Ryder Strong
He can't get a job. It's flailing.
Will Friedle
It's falling apart all over the place. And nobody's seen Morgan in marriage.
Danielle Fishel
He's married, so he's fine.
Will Friedle
He's got a woman. He's fine. But Morgan is. My God. She's hasn't been anywhere forever.
Danielle Fishel
We haven't seen her. No. Just then Eric walks in. Howdy. Feeny's happy to see him. Your parents tell me you're doing very well at the store. Eric grins. Really? I'll tell you something. This has been one of the greatest days of my life. He grabs a soda. Tap.
Will Friedle
Tap, of course.
Danielle Fishel
And proudly tells Feeny, I think I found my niece. Feeny corrects him. Niche. Eric second guesses him. Niche. Then he turns to Allan and gestures that Feeny's been drinking.
Will Friedle
Happy guts become obviously a thing. I do every other picture I sign at the conventions. Can you make it to my my niche? Like sure.
Danielle Fishel
Yep. Alan has a surprise for Eric. He pulls out a board that reads Matthews and Son Outdoor Adventures.
Will Friedle
Okay, question. Huh? Even if only one son works there, you have two sons, right? Shouldn't it be Matthews and sons? And then if one works there or something?
Ryder Strong
That's how it works.
Danielle Fishel
It depends on whether or not he's planning on when he dies. You're the only one. That's it. Seriously. It was like, because you Son. That's it. Ask another grammar question.
Will Friedle
It's Matthew's possessive and sons. That's not right, right?
Danielle Fishel
No, it's not supposed to be Matthew's possessive.
Will Friedle
It is, though, on the sign Matthew.
Commercial Announcer
Matthew.
Danielle Fishel
I guess if it's. No, because Matthew's Outdoor Adventures.
Ryder Strong
But is Matthews always has an S at the end of it.
Will Friedle
Yes, it would be. Matthews is.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah. No, it wouldn't even need. It wouldn't be an apostrophe at all. Could just be Matthews and Son.
Ryder Strong
But there is an apostrophe, a possessive one.
Will Friedle
Oh, wow. Is there a double M? Cause that's.
Danielle Fishel
Did Ryder write the sign?
Ryder Strong
Ew.
Will Friedle
Ryder's still thinking about the grammatic sense of it. I can see his mind twirling right now.
Ryder Strong
I usually had the same thought about the suns question. I was like, oh, yeah, it should be suns. It is weird. But then I was like, but I also really like the story points that Alan thinks he's doing a good thing. That's actually demeaning to Eric's character. Do you know what I mean? Like is like a really clever thing. He's like, look, I love my son. But then the other adults are able to say, like, you think that's helping him, but that's actually, you know, hindering his wings, which is really cool. Like, that's just a cool.
Will Friedle
I also like, from the sitcom standpoint, I do like the idea of the quote unquote. I mean, because apparently we're just supposed to forget everything else that's happened in the past and just have the character that's standing in front of you. So the idea that Eric is so crazy that adults are worried about what's gonna happen in the world when he gets there is also an interesting storyline. Cause we've all known people that are like that. They're most fun to be around. They're amazing. But, you know, there's an adult somewhere going like, oh, I wonder what's gonna happen when they've gotta hit the real world. So I liked that.
Ryder Strong
Yeah. And it's making Eric, for all of his outlandishness, part of the reality of this show. You know, other characters are reacting appropriately.
Will Friedle
Like, oh, my God. It's what they did with Cory and Topanga after they were married. Where it's like, oh, now marriage is gonna hit you. Now we're making it real. They're kind of trying to do that with Eric, too, where it's like, okay, it's fun being this wacky, but you got three months left in college or whatever. What are you gonna do? Yeah, so, yeah, I liked that.
Danielle Fishel
Allan says it's a mock up of the new sign he's gonna have made. Allan asks Feeny what he thinks of that. Feeny is hesitant. I think it's very nice. Eric isn't so reserved. Finne. Look at the. Look at that. I got a job after graduation. Matthews and son. Looks like I finally got a future. Eric walks upstairs and Alan looks to his wife. He's got a future. He doesn't have to go out into the world and get disappointed. That's what's important. Amy shakes her head. No. There's one more important thing. You have no faith in your son. Feeny looks concerned.
Ryder Strong
And now insights into Turbo Tax business.
TurboTax Host
Jereisha, your journey's pretty incredible. Engineer turned entrepreneur. And now you're helping hundreds of coaches and freelancers build thriving businesses. What made you realize you didn't have to do it all alone?
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
It was when I realized the cost of figuring everything out was too expensive. Not just financially, but in my time and my momentum as well.
TurboTax Host
You're now partnering with TurboTax Business. And something we hear from listeners is that talking to a real expert makes all the difference. How does having a Turbo Tax expert fit into this bigger message of you don't have to go it alone?
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
Yeah, a surgeon wouldn't try to perform an operation on themselves. Most lawyers wouldn't represent themselves in court. I think the same thing needs to be true with how we approach taxes and business, that you shouldn't be trying to do everything and figure it out on your own. Especially when those financial decisions that you're making have really large consequences. And that clarity comes from working with someone who actually knows what they're doing, who can remove that layer of anxiety that most business owners are feeling. Feeling and quietly carrying around, especially as it relates to taxes.
TurboTax Host
And for anyone listening who's been sitting on a business idea or maybe a side hustle, what's one small step they can take to move forward? And how can tapping into a TurboTax expert help them feel more confident as they get started?
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
Open a separate bank account today, specifically set aside for money for your taxes. It sounds small, but that one act of separation creates clarity that most business owners don't have. You stop panicking at tax time. You stop guessing what's yours to spend versus what belongs to the IRS. And then before you file anything, talk to TurboTax expert.
TurboTax Host
Final question. Where can people find more of your insights or learn TurboTax experts for business?
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
You can find me on Instagram at jereishahawk.
TurboTax Host
Jeresha, thank you so much for joining us us today.

I'm really happy to be here.

Danielle Fishel
All right, everyone, round of applause. We are back in the Matthews and Son outdoor adventure store. What?
Will Friedle
They kept it. They didn't throw it out or repurpose it for grace under fire or something.
Ryder Strong
Now, the way that this scene was blocked with like slightly awkward, like.
Danielle Fishel
Yes.
Ryder Strong
Against the wall. I thought after watching this scene that we hadn't rebuilt the entire.
Danielle Fishel
Right. Oh my God, two walls.
Ryder Strong
Because it's so. You never see a wide shot. But then we saw it in the next scene. There is. All that's happened is that they've adjusted the direction of the cash register.
Danielle Fishel
Yes.
Ryder Strong
Right. They've rotated it 90 degrees or whatever. So. Okay, I still kind of threw it away.
Danielle Fishel
So now it's toward the front door versus the other direction. Yeah, yeah. Eric is a total natural at the register while Alan, Jack and Rachel watch on with admiration. Rachel notices Eric seems really comfortable here. Jack agrees. He's with his dad. It's a family store. Why wouldn't he feel comfortable? Rachel sigh. This is where the other characters now just tell you.
Ryder Strong
Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
In lots of words. What the point of this episode is.
Will Friedle
Let's.
Ryder Strong
Let's sit in the wings and have some exposition. There's literally like a Greek chorus, like
Will Friedle
standing off to the exposition store. That's what you buy here. I'd like to order exposition for the next episode.
Ryder Strong
Maybe this Thematic conversations for three. I'll just take the.
Will Friedle
We're having a sale today. Multiple character exposition.
Ryder Strong
Exposition in life for. Yeah. Okay, great.
Danielle Fishel
Rachel sighs oh, I wish I was comfortable. Jack nods. Yeah, I give anything to know what I was going to do with myself. Allan asks what they mean and Rachel reminds him. They graduate in May. Then they're thrown out into the real world.
Ryder Strong
Ticking time clock inserted for the plot sake, I'll just take one of those.
Will Friedle
That's half price today. When you buy the exposition, you get the taking clock.
Ryder Strong
I need it.
Danielle Fishel
Allan is shocked. You don't know what you're going to do. Doc admits. All this time I've studied engineering and journalism. Now it comes to the point where I have to choose between them and I want to be a lawyer like Rachel.
Ryder Strong
Can I have a counterpoint character plot line to reflect a main character story?
Will Friedle
Yeah, we're making that right now. Number 61 Exposition and ticking time clock. It's ready.
Danielle Fishel
Rachel laughs. Lawyer was like eight careers ago. Jack backtracks. I don't want to be a lawyer either. Rachel tells Alan. You know what I want to be? I want to be Eric. He's the lucky one. Alan feels like they're only stating that for his benefit, but Jack insists Eric is the only one that's got a handle on things. Rachel adds, yeah, and he's got a job. His future's all set. Alan nods. Yeah, he's the only one of you guys whose future's all set. Imagine. Imagine that Alan walks away to join Feeny and Amy, who are.
Ryder Strong
He doesn't even walk away.
Will Friedle
He just turns and they're there. Just appears.
Danielle Fishel
Leans over to the other side. They're standing nearby.
Will Friedle
Conveniently not the best scene we've ever done.
Danielle Fishel
Alan rubs it in Feeny's face. What do you think about that, George? Maybe you ought to go help your other lost sheep. Help them find their way. Eric's going to be fine. Amy warns him to stop, but Allan is a little offended. What? I'm proud of my kid. I admit I was nervous about for him. Amy shakes her head. You never believed in him. This is the same scene. Yeah, we just. We just did.
Will Friedle
But now we're in the store, right?
Danielle Fishel
Allan insists. No, I was a little nervous for him. Amy pushes back. And you still don't believe in him. You think he will go out in the world and experience disappointment, so you want to lock him up in here. I thought if he would be here with you, he would gain experience and confidence and be ready to go out in the world. And now I think it might be the worst place for him. Is anybody confused about how any of the characters feel about the storyline at this point? Does any. Is anyone. Is anyone. Is there any.
Ryder Strong
Can we actually have them holding up signs and they just stand in a row?
Danielle Fishel
Is there anyone who needs more?
Ryder Strong
Think he's dumb? I support Eric and think he's,
Will Friedle
you know, it was good Until Danielle started reading it like this.
Ryder Strong
I know, but this is.
Danielle Fishel
But we still. Guys, I still have more detail for you. Alan points out that he is safe here. He's actually once step ahead of his friends, which he just learned when he was facing the other direction. Rachel and Jack are now chatting with Eric at the register. Rachel's thinking she'll go to med school next and Jack admits she'd make a great doctor. Eric agrees. Yeah, people really love you. Which is apparently the only thing you need to be a doctor.
Will Friedle
Oh wait, I'm curious. Is this the scene where I'm behind the cash register and they're on the other side of the cash register? Yes, yes. And you cut back and you kind of see the three of us laughing.
Danielle Fishel
Uh huh.
Will Friedle
Okay, maybe.
Ryder Strong
Yeah.
Will Friedle
So if it's this scene or the next scene, I don't know which one it is. But we, we each have,
Ryder Strong
we each
Will Friedle
have what do you call, piece pads of paper in front of us. And we are spending the scene as everyone's talking, writing and drawing the filthiest pictures that you could get. So we're passing back and forth just horrible words and horrible pornographic like sketches. When you cut back to us and we're all laughing, it's cause we are looking literally drawing just the nastiest things that we. I was like, oh my God, I remember this. And we sat there the whole scene, doing it.
Danielle Fishel
Oh my God.
Ryder Strong
One of Indy's best friends came home and she had a drawing that like, I don't know if she already had hung the drawing, but she had a drawing and her mom was like, it was clearly a penis. And she was like so upset. She's like, what are you doing? What did you draw this? What you.
Danielle Fishel
Oh my.
Ryder Strong
And she, she was like, yeah, it's my giraffe.
Danielle Fishel
Lovely.
Ryder Strong
It's great. Showed you how to draw this. It's like, oh yeah. No, it's a perfect giraffe. Perfect giraffe.
Will Friedle
Somewhere there's just in the Sahara there's a giant penis shaped giraffe just like what she drew me. What's the problem?
Danielle Fishel
Oh my God.
Will Friedle
Yeah, it was filthy and awful and we were just making each other.
Danielle Fishel
And that's why you guys were making each other so funny. Rachel wants to be a veterinarian specifically because she's always loved. Loved animals. Eric says he's always loved animals too. He and Rachel. Imagine a little pet hospital with letters that kids write thanking her for saving their animals. Jack asks, what about the ones you'd have to put to sleep Rachel has hit a snag. She announces, I'm gonna be a caterer. The adults have been eavesdropping.
Ryder Strong
That's the best joke that they've given her.
Danielle Fishel
Agreed.
Ryder Strong
Throughout the entire series. Because it was like a funny.
Danielle Fishel
And it didn't have anything to do with a man.
Ryder Strong
Yeah, exactly. Or yeah.
Will Friedle
Nope.
Danielle Fishel
The adults of an Eve's dropping, and Alan asks Amy, you'd rather he be confused like them? Amy counters, you know why they're confused? They have choices. They believe they are capable of anything. Allan argues, not everybody is capable of anything. Feeny chimes in, alan, eventually I have to let my students graduate. I shelter them as much as I can, but finally I have to let them go. Says the guy who has followed them since middle school.
Will Friedle
Yeah, seriously, middle school. Elementary school.
Ryder Strong
Yeah, elementary.
Danielle Fishel
Did we start in fifth grade or six? Oh, sixth grade was still elementary school, right? Amy explains, we can keep Eric here. We know he would do fine. But we wouldn't know what else he was capable of. And you know what's worse? Neither would he. Alan is offended. That's nice. You don't think I know what's best for my son? Well, I think I do know what's best for my son. If you don't mind, we have a store to run. Excuse me. Me. And then we are at Cory and Topanga's apartment. Angela and Shawn are eating pizza on the couch while Topanga paces the room. Apparently, Corey is already planning his funeral. Sean would read the eulogy and Angela would light the eternal flame. Topanga size. I should have never given him that stupid couple's quiz. Corey's at the doctor's office now getting his test results, and Topanga is worried. What if he finds out there's actually something wrong with him? Angela's eyes widen. Oh, there's something wrong with. With him, honey. Sean points to his head. She means here to think events. I know what she means. Don't you think I know what she means? I know he's crazy. I know everything. Do you want to know what he won't let me touch? No, not there. I might get cancer. Shawn is now concerned. He grabs Angela's arm and asks where. Angela ignores him and asks, I just
Ryder Strong
want to know where.
Will Friedle
Where do you think it is?
Ryder Strong
I mean, it's butt stuff, right?
Danielle Fishel
Butt stuff.
Ryder Strong
Butt stuff.
Will Friedle
It's totally butt stuff.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Commercial Announcer
Give you cancer.
Will Friedle
I love that. Topanga wants to do stuff.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, listen, Topanga's Topanga. All she cared about was getting married.
Ryder Strong
Yeah, Once she's in, she's in tushy stuff.
Will Friedle
Tushy stuff. Tushy stuff.
Ryder Strong
Stinkhole stuff.
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
Gross.
Ryder Strong
Come on, Pooky.
Will Friedle
Pook in the stinkhole. That ain't right.
Danielle Fishel
All of it. I want for the. For a straight minute and a half of just bleep. Oh, gosh. Okay.
Ryder Strong
I want cancer in the stinkhole.
Danielle Fishel
Chills.
Ryder Strong
Oh, my God. She's shuddering.
Danielle Fishel
I really have chills. Every time you guys say stuff, I get full body.
Ryder Strong
The stinkle refers to the apartment. So when we.
Danielle Fishel
I know, but now stinkhole.
Ryder Strong
That's all we're saying, is that they're having. They're making love in the apartment. And if he's worried about having cancer in his stinkhole, he's worried about having cancer in the apartment. You gotta keep your stinkhole clean. Super important.
Danielle Fishel
Oh, my God.
Ryder Strong
Super important.
Danielle Fishel
I'm gonna have to take my headphones off. If this keeps going, I'm gonna have to take my headphones off. I am not gonna be. I can't make it. I can't do it. And you guys, I. I do have. Have limits. I have limits.
Will Friedle
Unlike Topanga. And we're back.
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
And we're back.
Danielle Fishel
Full circle. Oh, gosh. Angela ignores him and asks Topanga, what if there actually is something wrong with him? Topanga's certain he's just doing this because he's afraid she's not going to take care of him when he's 80. He's just doing this to get attention. Sean asks why she doesn't just give it to him, and Topanga says she'd rather give him attention for acting normal. Angela breaks it to her. Oh, honey, we know that's never gonna happen. Topanga sighs. You're right. It's not. I married a nut. But aside from that, there's absolutely nothing wrong with him. On cue, Corey opens the door and gives them a tepid smile.
Will Friedle
Oh, it's the. His facial expression when he opens the door is just the best.
Danielle Fishel
It's kind of a little bit like the cake face, you know? It's a. It's a version of cake face. It's cake face with. I have bad news.
Will Friedle
Yeah, I have bad news. Plus, I want to take in the people that I love one last time. Like, that's what it looked like.
Danielle Fishel
It's like, yeah.
Will Friedle
Just want to look at you all again. Oh, God. So funny.
Danielle Fishel
Hello, everyone. Everyone just stares at him, confused. Topanga announces, and here we are in hell. Corey formally addresses them. I'm glad you're all here today. As you all know, I just came from the Dr. Topanga gets to the point. You have something? He nods. Yes, I have something. You all made fun of me, but I have something, all right. It's all right here. He reveals a piece of paper and brings it to his heart. Right here. He looks at Topanga. You're my wife. You have the right to know first. He hands her the crumpled diagnosis and dramatically takes a seat next to the windowsill. Shawn just wants to know what he has. And Topanga announces he has hypochondria. Angela and Shawn roll their eyes as Topanga continues to read. Chronic and Severe hypochondria. Corey, now resting his hand on the window. Tears for Leah. Hats. That's right. I'm a hypochondriac.
Ryder Strong
So good. It's such a simple joke, but it's so funny and, like, so effective to make a whole storyline just to get to this joke, which is, what if you're diagnosed as a hypochondriac? Placebo. Pills.
Will Friedle
Oh, my God. When it got to the placebos.
Danielle Fishel
Oh, I was at you.
Ryder Strong
I lost.
Danielle Fishel
When he says, I have to take
Will Friedle
these for the rest of my life, I lost it. He's so good.
Ryder Strong
Come on, Danielle. This is a good episode.
Danielle Fishel
It's a good scene. It's a good scene. You're right. This is a good scene. There are a couple of great scenes.
Ryder Strong
Yep.
Danielle Fishel
I'm not gonna change my mind to a great episode, but I agree, there are some very funny. Yeah, great scenes. Topanga explains, it means there's nothing wrong with you. It means you create stuff in your head. Corey pulls out a pill bottle as proof of his sickness. He gave me these placebos. Sean loses it. Placebos are what they give to crazy people like you to make them think they're being cured of something. Something they don't have. Corey screams, hey, I have to be on these for the rest of my life.
Ryder Strong
Oh, God.
Danielle Fishel
Shawn ignores him and asks the girls, so, what's up for tonight? Movie. Angela nods and they make their way to the door. Topanga asks if Cory wants to join them, and his lip begins to quiver. I have a tummy ache. Topanga throws her arms in the air and follows her friends outside. Corey watches her leave with a giant frown on his face. Now, in the hallway, Topanga tells Shawn and Angela that she doesn't care what the magazine said. Corey's going to outlive them all. But if he thinks she's going take care of him for the rest of his life, he's nuts. Sean shrugs. Of course he is. Angela breaks it to Her. That's why you married him?
Will Friedle
Is that.
Danielle Fishel
That's why.
Ryder Strong
I don't know about what this scene in the hallway is all about. Like, I just.
Danielle Fishel
I. I don't either. I also don't.
Will Friedle
I think what they're going for is she's gonna bail on him because this is just Corey. And then it's everyone like, yeah, that's why you married him. As a joke. And that's when she realizes, oh, yeah, I did marry him, and I am going to take care of him for the rest of his life. So he. She turns back. That's what I think they were going for.
Ryder Strong
Yeah. Something just doesn't work in the scene.
Will Friedle
I agree.
Ryder Strong
I think the way that Trina and I come back, it just seems like we're suddenly having, like, a pow wow, you know, in the hallway, as opposed to like a motivated. Like, let's go to the movies. Come on. Okay. If you're gonna stay with Cory, stay. But we're going, you know, like, we just lose all that momentum. It just becomes, let's expound on a character and a fight and then do something.
Danielle Fishel
And I'm not again, I like. I know. So what is the. What's the moral here? Is that begrudgingly, Topanga is gonna take care of man who acts like an old man. And she's. Even though.
Will Friedle
This is what you signed up for.
Danielle Fishel
Okay.
Will Friedle
This is what you got. This is what you signed up.
Danielle Fishel
I don't love this for her, but okay. Topanga knows they're right and walks back into the apartment to find Corey frozen, moping on the couch. She asks if he wants a blanket, and he smiles. That would be swell, but not wool. Wool chafes. My nippies.
Ryder Strong
Nippies. How do we feel about it?
Danielle Fishel
Add it to the vocab.
Will Friedle
How do we feel about nippies?
Danielle Fishel
Add it to the.
Will Friedle
Is nippies.
Ryder Strong
Okay?
Danielle Fishel
Nippies.
Ryder Strong
Stomach ache. Nippies. I am actually writing these down.
Danielle Fishel
Topanga lays a blanket over him and asks if he wants some tea. He replies, you know what I really want? I want you to come and sit next to me and hold my hand until I fall asleep. Topanga asks, that's what you want? He makes some room on the couch. Yeah, I do. So she takes a seat next to him and holds. Holds his hand. Is this what our life is going to be like? He interrupts her. Can you talk softer? Just a little?
Will Friedle
This is also when I noticed just how small this couch is.
Danielle Fishel
So, so small.
Will Friedle
This little love seat that they've got where now the two of them are on it.
Danielle Fishel
It's like, well, they've got a small sinkhole, you know?
Will Friedle
Yeah. Oh, well, that's the best. You want a nice, small stinkle.
Danielle Fishel
So now she was first.
Ryder Strong
You have an experience. Stinkle. He got some props.
Will Friedle
Exactly. You got. You know what? You don't ever want to leave a situation where the guy's like, damn, that was a huge stinkle.
Ryder Strong
Just wide open, you know, like, there's
Will Friedle
been a ton of people. Ton of people in that sinkle.
Ryder Strong
It's really just gaping. It's like this. Oh, God. All right, cool. We're professional podcasters. We're still. We're just sitting here laughing about dirty words.
Danielle Fishel
12. Oh, he responds, sometimes you'll be sick and I'll take care of you. She admits, that sounds nice. He tells her, I just want to know that we'll always take care of him, each other. She asks if he feels better, and he smiles. Isn't this better than going to the movies?
Will Friedle
No, no, no.
Ryder Strong
Movies.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Will Friedle
Especially in the 90s and 2000s. Great.
Danielle Fishel
Exactly. You could be seeing Titanic right now.
Will Friedle
Yeah, for like $6 a ticket.
Danielle Fishel
Exactly. So he lets her know, then I feel better. Topanga's happy to hear it. And Cory admits, I'm gonna rest my eyes now. I think the placebos are kicking in. Another great line, Great line, great line. Callback.
Will Friedle
And then his face at the end.
Danielle Fishel
She kisses the back of his hand and grabs her couple's magazine to read. Poor Porta Pan.
Will Friedle
And now insights into TurboTax business.
TurboTax Host
Jerisha, your journey is pretty incredible. Engineer turned entrepreneur. And now you're helping hundreds of coaches and freelancers build thriving businesses. What made you realize you didn't have to do it all alone?
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
It was when I realized the cost of figuring every everything out was too expensive. Not just financially, but in my time and my momentum as well.
TurboTax Host
You're now partnering with TurboTax Business, and something we hear from listeners is that talking to a real expert makes all the difference. How does having a TurboTax expert fit into this bigger message of, you don't have to go it alone?
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
Yeah. A surgeon wouldn't try to perform an operation on themselves. Most lawyers wouldn't represent themselves in court. I think the same thing needs to be true with how we approach taxes in business, that you shouldn't be trying to do everything and figure it out on your own, especially when those financial decisions that you're making have really large consequences. And that clarity comes from working with someone who actually knows what they're doing. Who can remove that layer of anxiety that most business owners are feeling and quietly carrying around, especially as it relates to taxes?
TurboTax Host
And for anyone listening who's been sitting on a business idea or maybe a side hustle, what's one small step they can take to move forward? And how can tapping into a turbo tax expert help them feel more confident as they get started?
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
Open a separate bank account today, specifically set aside for money for your taxes. It sounds small, but that one active, separate operation creates clarity that most business owners don't have. You stop panicking at tax time. You stop guessing what's yours to spend versus what belongs to the IRS. And then before you file anything, talk to a TurboTax expert.
TurboTax Host
Final question where can people find more of your insights or learn TurboTax experts for business?
Jereisha (TurboTax Expert)
You can find me on Instagram @jereishahawk. I also have a podcast called Jereisha Said. That's where I go deeper on some of these topics. And if today's conversation around the financial side really resonated with you, check out turbotax.com backslash business, especially if you're a sole proprietor or a single member ll LLC your newly self employed trying to file taxes for the first time.

Jresha, thank you so much for joining us today.

I'm really happy to be here.

And then we're back in Matthews and Son Outdoor Adventure. Alan is behind the register and Eric comes walking downstairs with some inventory. Just think, last week I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. And now I know just what I should be. And you help me find out. Allan makes sure. Is this really what you want to be, Eric? Eric hesitantly nods. Sure. I hear Jack and Rachel talking all the time. Doctor, lawyer, journalist, engineer. They all sound really confused. Alan remembers Remember when you wanted to be a weatherman?
Ryder Strong
Now we have a memory. Yep. Now we have consistency.
Will Friedle
Call me Now I remember stuff. And memory serves you didn't want me to be a weatherman. Because you were against it the whole time. Right? So thanks, bro.
Ryder Strong
When you actually. Yeah, because you did.
Danielle Fishel
You were doing great.
Ryder Strong
Well, and it was like with your school, Right?
Will Friedle
That's what it was.
Danielle Fishel
Correct. School is interfering with the things you might want to be in life, right? Eric laughs. Yeah, that was crazy, huh? Alan asks. Why? Why don't you tell me, Father? Eric shrugs. Because I could never be that. Even though you already were.
Will Friedle
I was one. Literally. A retired weatherman.
Danielle Fishel
At this point, Allan wonders, why not? Why couldn't you be a weatherman? Eric tells him, you really gotta be on the ball to be a weatherman. You gotta know about meteorology and all that stuff. Plus, I get really sad when people lose their homes in floods. Allen asks him, would you rather work here for the rest of your life or would you rather be a weatherman? Eric admits, I think I'd rather be a veterinarian. Alan laughs. What? Eric shrugs. Yeah, I heard Rachel talking about it. It sounded like something I'd want to do, too. But I can't be that either, can I? Allen just wants to know, if you could be anything you wanted to be, what would you choose? Eric answers, either a veterinarian so I could help animals, or a weatherman so I could warn people when there's a flood or when there's sunshine. That's crazy, huh?
Will Friedle
And the only thing that went through my head was a spinoff of eric, almost like Dr. Dolittle, where he's an amazing. Yeah, and it actually could have been like a young, kind of a younger show. But it could have been really fun to put Eric in that kind of situation.
Danielle Fishel
Yep.
Will Friedle
Eric with animals. I mean, again, animals are kids.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, it's.
Will Friedle
He's going to kill it. So, I mean, I think it would be. I mean, he's going to do.
Ryder Strong
Well, not.
Will Friedle
He's going to kill the animals.
Danielle Fishel
He's not going to kill the animal.
Will Friedle
Yeah, no, that's what I. That's what I meant. He's going to do very well.
Danielle Fishel
Alan shakes his head, no, it's not crazy. Then Rachel and Jack walk in and Eric jokes, now I sound as confused as the. These guys. Allan sighs. Yeah, you do. Rachel asks Eric if he's ready for dinner, but he won't be able to go. Tomorrow's the start of the big ski season, so they're going to have a big clearance sale. I gotta help my dad. You go on without me. Allan quickly jumps in. No, No, I don't want you to go on without him. Get it? It's a metaphor. He tells Eric to go with his friends, and Eric isn't so sure. What about all the skis? Allan assures him that he'll handle. Handle the skis. I belong here. You belong with your friends. Eric asks if he's sure, and Alan nods. I am. I am. Now Eric joins his friends and Jack is still brainstorming his future. What about architecture? Eric thinks he'd be good at that. Rachel announces, I've decided to be a corporate art buyer. Eric is impressed. What is that? She grins. I don't know. I Think I made it up then. And y' all aren't gonna believe this. Amy walk in with baby Joshua. You know, their newborn from last season.
Will Friedle
They have a baby.
Danielle Fishel
They have a baby. Eyes light up. Pediatrician Jack gasps, Me too. And Eric chimes in, me too. Alan chuckles to himself. The soon to be college graduates have decided, all right, it's settled. Let's go. They walk out and Eric waves to Joshua and then in a pitched high voice, he says, see you, baby brother. Allan tells Amy, he's a good kid. He'll be okay. I'm scared for him. I'm scared for all of them. Amy asks, did you do your best for him? Allan says, he did, so Amy insists, then he'll be okay. He's your son. Allan corrects her, he's our son. Our son out in the world. You shelter him for as long as you can, but then you gotta let him go. He turns to Joshua. That's what we do. You, huh? He picks up the baby and looks in his eyes. What about you, Joshie? How are you doing? The audience awes at the cute baby and the three of them head out the door as a family of three.
Will Friedle
And I miss this Eric. This was nice to be back to an Eric that had levels and.
Danielle Fishel
Yes, it was.
Will Friedle
Yeah, it was fun to play him again.
Danielle Fishel
Yes. Yeah, it was nice to see.
Will Friedle
Tough to do that when you're working with a monkey or sucking toes or any of that kind of stuff. So this was nice to like a nice.
Danielle Fishel
Yes.
Will Friedle
Stuff to do. Yeah, it was good. Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
And then we're in the tag. We're in Cory and Topanga's apartment. The newlyweds are cuddling on the couch when there's a knock at the door. Topanga opens it to find an old man dressed in a baseball uniform. Are you the wife? It's nice to meet you. I'm Sammy Sosa. Then he does the little Sammy Sosa kiss his finger and point to God Move. Corey is excited. Uncle Mori, they let you out? The old man explains. I'm in town for three days to play against the Phillies. Topanga points out. But it's just January. Uncle Mory responds, I'm nuts. Didn't he tell you? Corey's honored that he'd come and visit. The old man is concerned. I heard you had the hypochondoria.
Ryder Strong
Funny. Hypochondria.
Danielle Fishel
Hypochondora is good.
Will Friedle
Wait, wait, Ryder, haven't you and I been saying that since like 1995?
Ryder Strong
Hypochondria.
Will Friedle
I remember you and I saying, like, he's got the hypochondria. Maybe it's in my head. That must be what it's from, because I swear to God, this has been on our lives.
Ryder Strong
So I don't remember saying this because the second I heard it, I was like, that's funny. But maybe I. Yeah, that's funny.
Danielle Fishel
Topanga asks, can I make you some tea, Uncle Mori? He's confused.
Commercial Announcer
Who?
Danielle Fishel
Topanga quickly corrects herself. Uncle Sammy Sosa. He does Sammy Sosa's kissing move again and then answers, no, tea. Tea makes me sleepy. You see, I gotta keep wide awake so I can catch that bum Maguire. He sits Corey on the couch and reveals an autograph baseball. It's from all the boys at Sunnyvale. Corey reads off the names. Ken Griffey, Jr. Oral Hershiser, Princess Margaret, Patsy Cline, Dagwood Bumstead, Rin Tin Tin, Catherine Zeta Jones. He grins. What's she like?
Will Friedle
Wait, Danielle. When. What? When did this episode air?
Danielle Fishel
January 28, 2000.
Will Friedle
He died January 31, 2000.
Danielle Fishel
He watched the episode and died.
Ryder Strong
He was so embarrassed.
Danielle Fishel
He died.
Will Friedle
Died three days later.
Danielle Fishel
Wow.
Ryder Strong
Wow.
Will Friedle
Three. January 31, 2000.
Ryder Strong
We. We were definitely his last airing.
Will Friedle
Yeah.
Ryder Strong
On television.
Danielle Fishel
He was. What did he die from?
Will Friedle
Let's see. Embarrassing. Oh, he had a heart attack three weeks earlier as well, while film. Oh. Monza died in January 2000 in Scripps Health Encinitas Hospital in Encinitas, California. Have a heart attack. He had suffered a heart attack three weeks earlier as well, while filming a commercial for Budweiser. So he had had a heart attack and they're jumping up and he's jumping into people's arms and all that kind of.
Ryder Strong
No, he hadn't had a heart attack. We were probably filmed before January.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, we were. We were filming in, like, November.
Will Friedle
Okay. Okay, good. So we didn't do that.
Danielle Fishel
October or November.
Will Friedle
And then three days later, after this aired, he passed.
Danielle Fishel
Wow.
Ryder Strong
Yeah, wow.
Danielle Fishel
He glances at Topanga and then leans into to Corey. I'll tell you later. In the spaceship. Then two large men in all white outfits barge in. Uncle Mory exclaims, nobody knocks.
Ryder Strong
Nobody knocks in this entire apartment complex. Can you imagine? Like, dudes just walking in white? I mean.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, yeah.
Will Friedle
He has one credit, technically, after this.
Danielle Fishel
Is it the Budweiser commercial?
Will Friedle
No, it's the Tan. The Tangent be. Or Tangerine Bear as a fat. He was a voice in a film role. The Tangerine Bear.
Danielle Fishel
When did it come out?
Will Friedle
2,000. But if he did a voice.
Danielle Fishel
Correct. He.
Will Friedle
He did it a Year before.
Danielle Fishel
Correct.
Ryder Strong
So his last acting job, besides the Budweiser commercial. He had a heart attack, which he might not have finished, was Boy Meets World.
Will Friedle
Yeah.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah.
Ryder Strong
Wow.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah. Crazy Uncle Mori exclaims. Ah, there's the rest of my outfield. He excitedly jumps into their arms, and they walk him out bridal style. While he happily waves his hat in the air. Topanga stops the men. Hey, wait. You forgot. Got him. She points to Corey, and one guard puts a hand on Corey's shoulder. Corey shrugs. Let's go. He giddily jumps into the man's arms and the two nuts are taken away. A smiling Topanga waves goodbye to her husband. There we go. I mean, I. There are some really great aspects of this episode I love. I don't feel like it hit the level. I would want it to. To be on par with how I felt about some of those season five episodes, but it was. But it is by far the closest we've had in season seven to a. Ooh, Boy Meets World is back feeling.
Will Friedle
Yeah, it was just refreshing. Especially after the last couple we've done where it was like, oh, there's a story and Feeny's there and there's a
Danielle Fishel
lesson and there's some grounding. Yeah. At least they gave Corey the B story. Grounded.
Will Friedle
Great.
Danielle Fishel
Yeah, exactly.
Ryder Strong
I think. Is it an essential element of Boy Meets War that you need, like a parade, parental teacher layer? Like, you need that. Like. I think so, too. I think you need that. Like the adults standing by in some capacity, wrestling with their own version of how to deal with the kids. It's like such a perfect. That's, like, really special. And whenever, you know, we've gone too far away from that, it just feels a little like, oh.
Danielle Fishel
And it doesn't have to be that every episode has it, but every episode, especially when we're doing such secrets, serialized stories, it needs. Even if there's a whole episode where we don't see it, then the next one, when it's resolved, we need to see it then. Like the push and pull of the adult scenarios and the kids scenarios. I don't know. It's just so much better when we have both.
Will Friedle
Well, I think the war, if memory serves, the war and then seven the hard way. The next two take place a lot in the classrooms.
Danielle Fishel
Oh, okay.
Will Friedle
Yeah. Danielle, this is the bear.
Ryder Strong
The bear.
Danielle Fishel
Right. The bear.
Ryder Strong
Honey bear.
Will Friedle
The honey bear.
Danielle Fishel
Can't wait. I have no memory of the bear.
Will Friedle
You'll see it.

In this episode, Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle, and Rider Strong revisit Season 7, Episode 14 of Boy Meets World: “I’m Gonna Be Like You, Dad,” first aired January 28, 2000. The hosts dissect storylines about Corey’s hypochondria, Eric’s future, and the Matthews family business, with a focus on the show’s return to form, character arcs, and the importance (and irony) of continuity in this late stage of the series. Also included: classic cast banter, nostalgic set revelations, and a lot of laughs about grammar, set design, and infamous “vocab moments”.
A-Plot: Eric & the Family Business
B-Plot: Corey the Hypochondriac
Ensemble C-Story: Jack, Rachel, and Life After College
The hosts riff on series “vocab” moments (e.g., “pookie pook”, “nippies”, “stinkhole”, “cake-face”), leading to running gags and potential merchandise.
The term “hypochondoria” in the tag triggers Rider and Will’s memories.
Continuity Issues: The hosts bemoan the show’s disregard for its own history (forgetting Eric already worked at the store, fake "first fights"), questioning network mandates vs. creative choices.
The Role of Adults: The hosts agree episodes shine when parental figures or teachers are meaningfully involved—something they feel gets diluted in later seasons but is well-executed here.
Next Episode Preview: S7E15 “The War” — featuring the famous “Plays With Squirrels” (airdate February 11, 2000). Don’t miss their next recap!
