He's more cat like.
A
Hold on, everybody say hi to Ace. Dude, you can't be doing that on the pod. Okay? He was trying to get us to skip over the fever recap of the Valkyrie game.
B
Honestly, I'm like, how can I blame him?
A

The five in the air.
B
Yeah, just start.
A
You're gonna start voguing. Do you know voguing? Do you know what voguing is? Please, please hit a vogue if you know what a vogue is.
B
No, you hit a vogue. This is not the time.
A
You don't know how to vogue. It's voguing. Like, it's like. It's vogue.
B
I do this on a regular. I didn't know there was a name.
A
I wanted to like. I wanted you to do this because that's not voguing. Oh, okay. We. We digressed.
B
We can do that.
A
What did you out here with this?
B
So last time we're on here, you were in Chicago for your jersey retirement. How was that? I mean, I saw everything with Jennifer Hudson. I'm gonna just start there. The retirement. Love that for you, but Jennifer Hudson. Oh, okay.
A
Well, the weekend started on that Saturday when my family and I, we went to a John Legend concert. And boy, he can really, really, really sing. 20th anniversary of his Get Lifted album and Jennifer Hudson made an amazing surprise appearance. And it's crazy because I'm a huge Jennifer Hudson fan, obviously from Chi Town. But then when she was like, as geek to see me as I was to see her, I'm like, no, no, no, you don't understand. I'm trying to take a picture with you. My whole family was there. My mom was looking over down the court like, can you send her down here? I mean, everybody knows.
B
Can I send her down the line?
A
Yeah, send her down the line. I need a picture. But, you know, everybody knows how she came on the scene, but also a huge fan of Dreamgirls. And so just to see her where she's at right now, I mean, we gotta mention common comments from Nashai as well of the best rappers live. Yeah. So just really enjoyed, Enjoyed the experience of meeting Jennifer Hudson.
B
Yes. Now, the second most important part, that retirement. How did it feel? It looked great.
A
It was unbelievable. I really have to say. The entire Chicago sky organization made me feel loved 100%. The people there, first and foremost. But then just like a drone show, it was a three day event. The jersey retirement going up in the rafters. You talk about just the love around the city, the billboards. I mean, it was a very special night. And so to be able to share that with my family. And then Kalia Copper, I know that's a prize. Kalia Copper did not tell me she was coming to the jersey retirement, let alone she was speaking at the jersey retirement. And so that was a complete surprise to me. And to have my teammates in sloot. In Vander Sloot. I mean, vanderquigs. Vanderkwygs. Ali Quigley, who also got her jersey retired there as well as KA talking, I mean, it was just, it was unbelievable. James Wade pulled up our coach for the championship season. So it was everything and more. And Vegas was there. They showered me with love. And Chelsea and Jackie Young wore my high school jersey into the game. Those are my, those are my, those are my little. I can't even call them rookies. They're. I could call Chelsea a rookie. But anyway, it was magical. Thank you. It was magical.
B
Wow. I love that. It, it looks so dope. It looks so dope. I was like, no one deserves this more. You already know. You already know how I feel. So no one, no one deserves this more. So I'm so happy for you.
A
I appreciate it. I mean, we didn't escape the weekend without a little bit of embarrassment. I mean, my family was acting crazy courtside you. They acted like they couldn' you know, contain themselves. Like I said, when they, they saw Jennifer Hudson in common and all that. So it was just magical. So thank you. All right, so it's time for what we want to talk about. I don't know if this is the first thing that we want to talk about. We're gonna, we're gonna rip the band aid off. We're not gonna, you know, sit here and try to act like this is what we want to talk about. But yes, you all lost against the Valkyrie. 75, 63. But in other news, this has been a rather successful trip if you think about it. The way that you all have played. I mean, Odyssey Sim stepping up big in that LA Sparks game to avenge, you know, a loss after they, they cut her earlier in the season. We'll start with the Sparks game. How about that?
B
That's a good start.
A
Yeah, we'll start with the Sparks game and then we'll work our way backwards then forward. So Sparks game, you had 22, 11, only four assists. I'm a little disappointed, but six steals, six deals.
B
Okay, so that, that covers a little bit, right?
A
Yeah, it does. It does. You have become the second player in franchise history to record 15, 10 and 5 in a single game. Joining catch Tamika Catchings, youngest center in WBA history to record 20 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Dope. And the first person ever to have these numbers in a game with zero free throws.
B
Yay.
A
Crickets.
B
Yay.
A
That's a stat, right?
B
Exciting.
A
That is a stat.
B
But it was a good game though. We needed that. And I think that game, especially that first half was just not perfect. It. It wasn't great basketball. But I think being able to come back in the second half and change it, see some shots fall and then be able to win that game and hold on to the lead at the end, I think, I mean, that was just really, really good for us.
A
Well, it just speaks to the volumes of point guard play as well. Guard play. You have Odyssey Sims that's been with the team for less than a month. I mean, shoot, it's been weeks that she's been with the team and she comes in and basically scores the final five points for you all. A ginormous three that ties the game and then a runner that took the lead. But let's talk about your defense. You all held Plum and Jackson scoreless for an entire half. What has the emphasis been on that?
B
It's always like let your defense travel. And I think there's still been games on the road where we haven't been able to do that. But for us, Holden, KP and Rakia, that, that was big because obviously they're two big key pieces in the Sparks offense and they look to them whether that's post up one on one isos making the defender after work. So that was, that was really good. And I think that shows just our on ball defense was pretty great. And then also being able to help and rotate and make them have to kick the ball to somebody else.
A
Well, there's also. We're gonna skip over the ref in the Sparks game, but there's also a time where you can be seen holding Caitlyn back in a viral video. That was funny of you grabbing her as she is trying to talk to the refs.
B
I know you see she's smiling. She's a troll. Like, look at her. She. She can't help it. I think it's so funny. Like I, it's. I'm so used to like, I'm like not even phased. I'm like walking away and still pulling her arm back. I'm like, girl, come on. She is actually the biggest troll. I think it's funny.
A
We're gonna keep your off court assists on the season. So that's two to Caitlyn because the first one was grabbing her drink when she was on the Stud Buds livestream. And then this one now is just funny keeping allowing her to keep her money in her pockets. Not that she needs to, but you know, spin it how you want. We're gonna go back to the Valkyries loss because, you know, it's. It's tough. You and the Valkyries are jockeying for position. Actually there's. The final four spots really are kind of up for grab. They were able to move up in the standings. Obviously you all are now in a difficult spot statistically, numerically at the eighth spot, but really still tied in losses with a number of teams that are above you. What can you say about your approach going into that game? Because road trips like this at the end of the season are always difficult.
B
I mean our approach was the same to come in. Play good basketball, win the basketball game. And I think just the start of the game, like we had 1500 clock issues. Like that was one of the biggest things like getting into rhythm. But I also think the Valks, their defense was pretty. But even with that and with us not really playing well, not really shooting the ball well from the floor, we were within five in the fourth quarter. And then I think we kind of just made some mistakes at the end that really just cost us. But I think when you're able to go back and you look at a game like that in a situation like that, when you realize it wasn't nothing they did in those final moments, like everything is very controllable. So when you go into the next game, your approach has to be cut those down at different times for a less amount of times. Um, and you just continue to approach each game the same and, and that's be ready to win.
A
And what Aaliyah is talking about was the technical issues with the shot clock in the Valkyries game. The first half lasted an hour and 32 minutes were there some like dance moves, waves like how do you perform?
B
There were dances during that court trying to shoot. People went in the back.
A
It's crazy. I have no idea. It's five clock stoppages, four timeouts, four reviews. A really difficult first half. And I can understand, you know, you're young so you don't need to activate in that period of time.
B
But no, I had to hit some high knees.
A
I would be activating and actually be like, you know what? Probable. I don't know the rest of the game. But listen, this has been a roller coaster of a season. But let's give credit where credit is due. You all did defeat the Storm. A 20 point win versus a Storm team that is also battling for a playoff spot. In that game, Kelsey passed Caitlin Clark for the most points in a single season in Fever history. You hit a major milestone, a thousand rebounds, which is crazy. 2nd youngest player to hit 1k only Tina Charles was younger. And there's another stat. Let's see. Also became the second. Oh wow. Second fastest player to ever reach a thousand rebounds and 350 assists. Trailing only.
B
Huh, Candace Parker.
A
Huh, that sounds familiar. Wow, you try to try to look at that. Man. That's amazing. I love that only us.
B
I also love literally seeing any stat that says only other person is Candace Parker. Like girl, do you realize what you did in this league? Are you kidding me?
A
Stop it.
B
I'm old. Are you kidding me?
A
I'm old and phased out. No, you're going to break all those records this season. Kaylin has missed 18 consecutive games and 27 altogether this season. Despite three season ending injuries, the Fever still have 21 wins which is the most since a 2012 title team. Now the remaining games you're playing the Mercury, the Sky, the Mystics, the Links. You've got to think that the Links are probably going to rest their starters. But you don't know. You know Cheryl because Cheryl could decide to rest them two games before the end of the season and make them go hard in the last game. So you never know with her. But what is your mindset going in to close these games? Because you all do still hold a bit of your destiny in your hands.
B
I, I feel like we are one taking it one game at a time. So right now we have to be ready for Phoenix. We're on the road when we see them obviously. And so for us it's just about coming with the mindset of just playing good basketball and great basketball for 40 minutes. Like we have to Be able to continue to put these games together for longer periods of time, especially ending the season, trying to make the playoff push. We just have to be able to put it together. And so I feel like that's going to be our approach. And then we have the sky at home. So just making sure that we come with that and we really put together a great game.
A
Word of advice, do not relax against teams that are out of the playoffs because they're.
B
They're coming Olympics.
A
Their Olympics and world championship is beating somebody and making and fighting for a position. Yeah. So the sky and the Mystics, you better watch out for them. But we'll get to the playoff picture shortly. The Links, they clinched the number one seed. Surprise, surprise. They are head and shoulders ahead of the pack. And I say that in. They've done that without the play of Nafisa Collier. And so I think we're really seeing how the Links are a machine and they all kind of play off of each other. They have the most wins in a season in franchise history at 31. And believe me, they had a number of wins during the Maya Moore and Sylvia Fowles and Simone Augustus and Lindsey Whalen era. I was at the other end of those. And then Links not only have the best overall record at 31 and 8, but also the best home mark at 18 and 2. And one of those losses coming at the hands of the Seattle Storm. Last game, we saw the clip go viral of Skyler Diggins dancing on the court. Yes, dancing on the court. After the win. As you know, Minnesota Links, whenever they get the dub, they hit the electric slide. They do a dance in front of the. Oh, look at E. Wheeler. Oh, Erica Wheeler joined in on the. You have to have your teammate join in, too. Your feelings about this?
B
Honestly, I feel like it's. I. I know it's a regular season game, but I think it's funny. And I think Skylar can actually be a funny troll sometimes. And obviously that's one of those moments where she just wants you to feel. And I feel like, especially in a situation where the Links are the top seed and obviously Seattle's still fighting as well for a spot. So Skylar just wanted them to know, like, they're here, and that's why she hit the slide.
A
Skyler, this is like Skylar. Okay, so I'm with it because you can't turn. You can't love it and then not like it in situations like this. I love it. I love the entertainment. I just want to tell Skyler to be a little careful because the way the playoffs are set up, they might face them in the first round and this is a regular season game, so I can't imagine if Ty Tyrese Haliburton would have hit that like Reggie Miller Selly against the Knicks in a regular season game. So hey, all of us have wanted to do it. We've all rolled our eyes as we're walking off the court at the Target center and they're dancing. I've wanted to trip Sylvia Fowles a couple of times when she's doing that electric slide and she hits that and Nafisa Collier hits that real hard shoulder to come forward before she kicks in the electric slide, which drives us nuts. But you know, it's a tradition. I get it. Talk your stuff, Skyler. I'm with it. But remember, you might have to back it up in the first round.
B
After we won the national championship in 2022, I saw you, Candace in the crowd and I just grabbed the mic and said it. I love you girl.
A
And I felt that because I saw myself in you. The joy, the pressure, the entire journey.
B
You've always been someone that I've looked up to. And hearing you say you got this, that meant more to me than you probably even know.

That's what Adidas is all about. The you got this campaign as a reminder that support, even one moment, one voice, can change everything.

School is back in session and school buses are on the road. This is a simple reminder for all drivers, you must slow down and prepare to stop when approaching a school bus from the front or behind when it's displaying flashing yellow lights. Those lights mean that the bus is getting ready to stop for students. Every state has a law that makes it illegal to pass a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended when it is stopped to load or unload students not stopping for a school bus or trying to beat the stop arm puts lives at risk and can result in large fines, points on your license, and even license suspension. If you're driving, especially in school zones or where children may be traveling to or from the school bus, slow down and stay alert. Paid for by nhtsa. So we are going to kind of like do a quick rundown of just what's to what. What's happening. The WNBA Aces 12 game win streak at this time when we're recording. They might have more. They're hot. Secured the second spot in Atlanta with MVP chance for Asia in Atlanta after they took the number two seed. What are you feeling if you're Ryan Howard and yeah, we know how Alicia Gray like, come on.
B
Feeling. I know, I know. I think it's just so hard, especially with South Carolina being three hours away. Everyone always makes their way down for that game to support Asia and the rest of the Gamecocks. But I think leash MVP chance when.
A
She'S at the free throw line now. Okay, rightfully so. It's Asia Wilson. I get it. But at your home. And that's the thing about Atlanta. Atlanta cheers for good basketball. It doesn't matter who's winning or they.
B
Want to see Atlanta.
A
It's hype for. I mean, that goes on the Atlanta Hawks side as well. Man. Yeah. Alicia Gray's got to feel some type of way. All right. Brianna Stewart's back. Alyssa Thomas, another triple double. So we'll just keep that moving. 9.2 assists per game. Phoenix clinched a spot. The emerging play of Kalia Copper. I don't know if it has anything to do with her trip to Chicago, but she's been on a heater since her birthday and that trip. So anyway. And then the current standings in the playoffs right now, the Fever would face the Minnesota Links in the first round.
B
I would feel good about playing anyone. I would feel good about playing anyone, really.
A
Okay.
B
All right, cool.
A
I just want to put this out there against the top two seeds. The Fever are 1 and 2 versus the Links this year, including the Commissioner Cup. So 02 in season series, regular season and obviously you got that bread and.
B
The money got that got that money.
A
So you beat it when it counted. And for the Fever, 2 and 1 versus the Aces. So you guys are still two games ahead of ninth place Los Angeles. That's why that game was crucial. And the Fever race is pretty much for the seventh seed with the Storm, which the Fever have the tiebreaker over the Storm. So, yeah, you guys took care of business. This road trip was huge. And the Valkyries have the tiebreaker over the Fever and benefit from a Wings matchup and likely a rest day for the links. So the Valkyries, I won't say smooth sailing because sometimes that's more difficult to play teams that are. Are missing their starters and stuff like that, but you all are trying to jockey for seven or eight or does it matter?
B
We're just trying to win all the games. So once we win those, where we go from there?
A
You guys say period.
B
Period. Yeah. Okay.
A
See, look at me.
B
You can go like this. You can go like.
A
Okay, like this. Layla taught me this, too. She taught me, like, this little heart thing, the new heart craze where you'd go like this.
B
Oh, that's.
A
Do you know this?
B
No, that's not.
A
It's like the. It's like a way of doing. Like this, but it's a way of doing a heart, but it's with just your index finger. Yeah, I'm like, that's too much.
B
It's now time for you got this. Presented by Adidas. There's nothing like a great assist to help us remember you got this. Learn more about the you got this message@adidas.com yougot this and follow the action on Instagram, Adidas and Adidasus. Every week, we're going to shout out someone who showed up, rose to the occasion, or made their moment count. Whether it's a player, a coach, or even something we saw online, if it inspired us, it's getting a shout out. So this week, my you got this moment goes to Taylor Townsend. In my opinion, she's a real class act. I. I know everyone saw that viral moment where she talked about her opponent telling her she has no class, no education. Let's see what happens outside the US and she was like, okay, now what? Now what? I'm winning. I'm winning. And for me, I feel like that's a you got this moment because one, she had an upset, she won, made the opponent start talking crap, and Katina show up and made everyone love her.
A
What's crazy about Taylor is I feel like there's some unwritten rules in tennis, which I was at the US Open, and I was learning the game as I was watching it, because you know how in basketball, it's like, you don't shoot in the last shot clock when you know you're up by 20, you don't take, like, a step back, three at the buzzer. You only do that overseas, but here, you don't do that. And if you do it, people will fight. And if you don't know basketball, you won't know why people are fighting. You know, type of thing.
B
Yeah.
A
In tennis, apparently, if the ball hits the net and goes over and hits the opponent's court and you get a point, you're supposed to wave and be like. Yeah, you're supposed to wave and be like, my bad. But my bad for getting the first scoring. It's wild. So I didn't understand that. So apparently, Taylor Townson didn't do that to Yelena Ostapenko, and she didn't do that. She didn't wave. And then there were some other things that Ostapenko was upset about. But then to escalate the situation, to say, she told me, I have no class, I have no education, and to see what happens when we get outside the usa. I think Naomi Osaka put it best in that, you know, maybe English is a second language. I'm not making excuses, because you should never say that. I don't care what your nation of origin is or language of origin is. But it is like, almost one of the worst things that you can say, especially to a black tennis player in a predominantly white sport. And so I think Naomi Osaka going on. On stage really amplified the fact that you can't say things like that and shined a light on it. But then I also think then, because Yelena Ostapenko stood on what she said.
B
Yeah.
A
And then she came back and later apologized and said that, you know, she messed up or whatever. But at the same time, Taylor Townsend, I love that you stood on business. Upset number five, Mira Andriva. I have a Eastern European wife, so I gotta make sure I pronounce this right. Mira and Riva. We'll say that. Yeah. And so she recently lost to Barboa. Hey, I don't know. We're just gonna go with it. But anyway. But I think everybody knows Taylor Townsend's name. She'll be able to build off of this, and I'm excited to see where she goes. So sorry to Jack your. You got this moment.
B
But I had.
A
I had to say the tennis etiquette because I didn't Understand? I was like, she didn't wave. She scored. Why did she have to wave?
B
I guess. I guess that's what they do. But that was my. You got this moment presented by Adidas. So next week, Candace, it's back to you.
A
All right, it's time for one of our favorite parts of the show. This is unfiltered fan questions powered by Uncrustables. Find Smuckers uncrustables in the freezer aisle. Learn more@uncrustables.com all right, we got a ton of great questions per usual, so keep them coming in. Tell your aunts, your uncles, your cousins, and your friends to send in questions for Leah and myself. All right, first question is Aquarius Girl 28. Ooh, my son's an Aquarius. I know. She's sensitive. All right, what does your game day routine look like?
B
Ooh. So I wake up in the morning. I always listen to my devotional, and then I head downstairs and I get breakfast. I get the same breakfast every time. Eggs and bacon. That's it. And typically some oatmeal. And then we watch film, go to shoot around, come back, and I have to take a nap. I don't care what time it is.
A
How long is your nap?
B
Get an out? Depends. It could be 45 minutes. It could be an hour. It could be an hour 15. I could push it to an hour 30. However time, however much time I have, I'm taking every single minute of it. And then I typically get up, have pregame meal, pack up my suitcase, get dressed, and then I go hoop.
A
And get over five assists.
B
And get over five assists. Exactly 100%. Okay, next question from no Ketchup 22. Candace, I've always wondered if you would ever love to be a head coach someday in the wnba. If so, which team would you love to coach?
A
I never say never, but never. I think the first coaching I'll do is probably my. My, my kids. But if there were a WNBA team to coach, I would probably have to say it's between the Indiana Fever.
B
That's a good answer.
A
And the Las Vegas Aces, because I feel like those two teams can play the most amazing styles. And I would love to, like, get, like. I would have you bring the ball up.
B
I like it.
A
I would have you, like, pitch it to a post up for Caitlin Clark. I would run a flair for Natasha Howard and, you know, Kelsey Mitchell coming off that dribble handoff. I mean, there were so many sets that I would run. So just know you would get the ball A lot. So.
B
Woo hoo. Yeah.
A
Yeah. All right, next question. Kstime 15. Do players really tune out what everyone is saying on the Internet? Is it hard to not read it all?
B
Yeah, I feel like the most part, you know, that it comes with the territory and we see like, we see a lot of it. But I think the most important part is understanding that a lot of these people are tweeting and not hooping. Like they're not doing what we do. So it's like, okay, you can have your think pieces, you can say what you want, but you're not out here, you're not playing. And like we know the work that we put in and so we just ignore it. And also, sometimes like someone like me, like, I turn my comments off. Don't. Don't tell me anything. Matter of fact, I don't have to see it. Question 4 from I only drink pure water. Who are some of your favorite all time duos?
A
Only drink pure water. Okay, sorry I interrupted.
B
Who are some of your favorite all time exciting duos in the NBA?
A
Well, my number one, I grew up in Chicagoland, Naperville, Illinois, Chicago Bulls, obviously. I mean, Jordan and Pippin were number one. I would say my next obviously has got to be Kobe and Shaq. And my third.
B
That's mine is.
A
Oh, that's yours.
B
That's mine.
A
That's yours. Okay.
B
That's mine.
A
Okay. Were you alive?
B
You had a third one.
A
Were you alive?
B
No, I. Yes, I. I was alive. Thank you.
A
I think it would be more pow and Sha. I mean pow and Kobe, but. Okay. The third one is Anthony Parker and LeBron James. You said any duo. He was a big two, hit that corner. Three, led a league in three point percentage from the corner. Shout out to my brother, Anthony Parker, an avid listener. Post moves. Question number five, Ray of Sunshine. Seven. What is the biggest change you want to see implemented in the W?
B
Ooh. I think that there shouldn't be a limit on your challenges if you continue to win them. Like, you can't. Like after two, like you should still be able to challenge if you won both them because one, you're great at reviews and two, like, if there's another call that could be like close to like the end of the game and you need to challenge it, but you can't because you've already won twice. Like, I feel like you should be able to keep your challenge if you keep winning.
A
I think that's hilarious because of course someone would keep the statistic of the streak of challenges won. I could see it being Some sort of record at one point.
B
Question 6 from 55, how does the W solve the reffing problems? Good answer. Next.
A
That's a really good question. Yeah, I mean, I guess training, because there's always a way to get better. I think there's training and accountability. I think the NBA has become very transparent with their refs and have developed an amazing training program. But we all know that that training program costs money. So I think the more that the WNBA decides to invest in reffing, the better refs they'll get, but also the better roughing they'll get. Question number seven from Wise Energy 3821. Your favorite kind of beauty service to get hair, skin, nails, makeup. Which is it?
B
I love it all, but my hair. I love getting my hair done. I love getting my hair done. And my nails. Those are like my. My top two. Those are. I. I love.
A
Let me see your nails now. Your nails look nice now.
B
Yes.
A
Oh, put them to the camera. Let me see.
B
When the season's over, I'll get my nails done. Okay. I always have my toes done, though. That.
A
Your hair always looks fire.
B
