It's about our shared values. Those values of openness, compassion, respect. A country where we say no to racism, to injustice, to hate. Fake fucking Jew. Fuck you and fuck your mother and your grandmother and your great grandmother. Your fucking fake Jew Hitler should have wiped every fucking one of you off the planet. Hell Hitler. But hell Hitler he's a g. He's a gangster. I wish he made it all you guys kill you by by one we start from cost we went cab going to empty the store you get many crime here in Canada you same on you you turn aside you come back dream alone and go back to Europe for the sake Go back to Europe. The are you from Go back to Europe. This final solution is coming your way. The final solution. You know what the final solution is? We're coming. We're gonna get you for all those dead babies. You fucking pieces of shit. Fuck you and your rights. Fuck you and your free speech. All that fucking freedom bullshit. We're gonna. It's gotten bad here in Canada for Jews. Full disclosure, I am one and I know that it's not just here. Ever since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, antisemitism has been surging around the world. As Israel's retaliation has gotten more and more horrific to watch. Jews have been getting blamed for it and targeted for it all around the world. But what has been happening here has been different. If you believe the data, according to Statistics Canada, a Canadian Jew is nine times more likely to be a victim of a hate crime than a Jew in the United States. The New York Post called Montreal North America's antisemitism capital. If you believe all this stuff, something different is happening here. Canada is worse, but some people don't believe it. There are a lot of Jewish people who say they feel unsafe. That's absurd. There is a difference between feeling unsafe and feeling uncomfortable. The Israel lobby as Zionist groups are trying to force the narrative that the government of B.C. has some kind of antisemitism problem which is very problematic. And it serves to conflate anti Zionism with anti Semitism or criticism of Israel with anti Semitism. What is happening here? Did a country that prides itself on multiculturalism suddenly become a global capital of bigotry? Or are the statistics and the news reports getting it all wrong? Are Jews being targeted for for being Jewish? Or are they being targeted for what they support? And who is doing the targeting? Is the pro Palestine movement responsible? Is it Israel's fault? And finally, why here? What is it about Canada that makes the situation seem so Extra foreign. I'm Jesse Brown and what is Happening Here is a new podcast that answers these questions from Canada Land and the Canadian Jewish News. What is Happening Here? Find it wherever you get your podcasts.
