Mike Wilbon
Pardon the interruption, but I'm Mike Wilbaugh. Tony, a British woman, is now the world's oldest person at 115.
Tony Kornheiser
Toni Kornheiser, she got me by three years. I used to date her sister in high school.
Mike Wilbon
Oh, thank you. Maybe a stepsister who's like 40 years younger. One can hope.
Tony Kornheiser
What do you make of someone who was born then in 1910? You know, I would have seen over a lifetime are amaz. They're just. They're amazing. They're incomprehensible, it seems to me. Yeah. Welcome to pti, boys and girls. In today's episode, the Pacers upset the Cavs. The Blues and Avalanche both Gag and Sovereignty wins a sloppy Kentucky Derby. But we begin today with the warriors going to Houston and winning game seven, holding the Rockets to 89 points. The warriors got 33 points from Buddy Heald, who scored zero points in the warriors game six loss at home. Well, Von Golden State lost games five and six. So what did this win by the warriors show you yesterday?
Mike Wilbon
A lot, Tone. It showed me championship form, even though not all of those guys have played on the championship warriors teams. But the two who have, obviously Stephen Draymond and you had Jimmy Butler, who's been to multiple finals and been in huge games all his career.
Tony Kornheiser
The.
Mike Wilbon
The warriors showed intellect, and this had to start after they lost game six. And this, of course, includes their championship hall of Fame coach, Steve Kerr. They show intellect. It shows urgency. They know they don't have an open window like Houston. Houston's window's just opening. You know, Houston and Detroit and Orlando and. Or San Antonio. That's fine. The warriors know what they got. They're largely a bunch of old guys. Even Buddy Hield, who's not old, is not young. Anyway, he's been around for a while, and they sort of plot it and they planned and they say, here's what we are going to do to the best of our ability. And then, no. Sports are not choreographed. And they're hard. Even when you can agree on what you need to do and the urgency of it. And they did it. They made this plan and then they executed the plan. And so I am, you know, I admire. I've gotten to know the guys I mentioned on, on that team, on the warriors team over a period of years. And I'm not going to lie to you, I root for them. I do. Because I think that's what people ought to see, kids ought to see. We ought to be able to be entertained by another round. We'll get to Houston. I love what Houston's doing, but right now, celebrate what the warriors did yesterday.
Tony Kornheiser
So I did not see this coming at all. I thought if the warriors were going to win this series, they had to win game six. I thought they were going to get cooked in this particular game. And I've listened to you for a few weeks now raving about Houston's acrobats players telling me how great their coach is. So I thought they would soar above the warriors by about 15 points. The NBA ought to be grateful that the warriors won this game because there are no other California teams in this thing. People like Warriors. The Lakers were routed and. And the Clippers gave it too. The buddy heel thing. The buddy heel thing is amazing to me. He had no points in 17 minutes in game six. He went from none to 33. That's never been done before in a playoff. Now, I know you like Buddy Heald, but I thought the moment was going to be too big for him. Obviously it wasn't. They got scoring from Buddy Hield and Draymond Green was on the floor and not getting technicals, not being bad like he was in game six. And he gave them, I believe, 16 points and five assists and a plus seven defense. And now, now they draw Minnesota. And I'll be brief here. Minnesota should win. Minnesota should be able to put LeBron James and Steph Curry into that good night. But I will tell you this, Mike. I would much rather, much rather see a Golden State Minnesota series than a Houston.
Mike Wilbon
Tony, I would too. And as I said to you, I believe and stand by everything I said about Houston and they're coming. Doesn't mean they've arrived. Go to State arrived 10 years ago, at least the nucleus of that. And so they're still here. And by the way, let me just say something I love and I don't know how you feel about this. Cause I have to ask you, I love Night Night. I love when Steph Curry does this. I love it. I'm amused by it. I feel great. And he did it after a buddy healed shot. Not one of his own. Night night. Just, just fabulous to watch Golden State for another round. Sorry Houstonians. Let's move from a game seven to a game one. The Pacers upset the top seeded Cavaliers in their series opener yesterday in Cleveland. Tyrese Haliburton delivered 22 points, 13 assists and a number of defensive plays to lead Indiana to a nine point win. Tone, you have been high on Cleveland tone justifiably all season. So what does this result say? Just one game to you?
Tony Kornheiser
So I watched the whole game. I, I did. I watched this whole game. I don't want to get carried away because it's one game.
Mike Wilbon
Right?
Tony Kornheiser
One game of a seven game series is the least meaningful game of all. If you want to, if you want to know the first reaction I have to something like this. He said maybe the Athletic ought to revote on making Tyrese Halliburton the most overrated player in the players.
Mike Wilbon
Players said that.
Tony Kornheiser
I know, but the Athletic ran the contest. Right?
Mike Wilbon
Yeah.
Tony Kornheiser
Yes. Okay. So because he was great in the last game against Milwaukee. Great. And he was great yesterday and Cleveland sent their bigs out to stop him and that didn't work. Again, it's game one. I understand there are injuries to Darius Garland. Now there's an injury to Evan Mobley. I understand that. But you don't want to get carried away after one game. Cleveland could win the next four games. They are capable of winning the next four games. But in this one game, Mike, I watched Cleveland take the lead a number of times and Indiana came right back and took the lead back from them. And it seemed to me that Indiana's will was stronger than Cleveland's will will in this particular game. And, and I was very impressed with the way Indiana played.
Mike Wilbon
I don't disagree with any of your characterization and I agree completely with you. I'm going to mention something though. Halberton is the one name that some people may know out of Indiana. He's been around for a bit. He's been in some big games and they know about his father, John Halberton getting in Giannis's face stupidly last week. But the rest of them, Tony, the balance of that Indiana team with Siakam, who people might remember from Toronto, Turner, Evan Turner, 13 and 11 yesterday. Nimhart. Most people don't know Matherin, they don't know unless they from college, Dean Smith, they don't know TJ McCon the backup point guard. They know Obie Toppen maybe from the Knicks and And Matherin, who was a, a nice little college player for a minute. People don't know them. Get to know them.
Tony Kornheiser
That's right.
Mike Wilbon
Get to know him.
Tony Kornheiser
That's right.
Mike Wilbon
And, and, and Rick Carlile, who they should know, cuz Rick Carlisle's been around for a while as a successful coach with a championship ring.
Tony Kornheiser
Again, Mike Will is more than what they have.
Mike Wilbon
Tony, I agree with you.
Tony Kornheiser
Cleveland won 64 games this year, Indiana won 50. So you don't get panic stricken at this point. I mean, you just, you know, because it's, it's really just one game. But you can't have two guys take 50 shots. They had two guys, one guy took 30, one guy took 20, the rest of the team took 48. You have to spread that around a little bit. Donovan Mitchell took 30, Ty Jerome took.
Mike Wilbon
26, DeAndre Hunter, and they have those guys back in the line didn't have that.
Tony Kornheiser
All right, let's move to hockey and two amazing Game 7 results. On Saturday, the Avalanche had a 2 nothing lead over Dallas in Dallas with about seven minutes going in the third period. Dallas scored the next four goals, three of them by former Colorado player Miko Rentanen. On Sunday, Winnipeg was down three to one with only two minutes to go. And Winnipeg tied the game with three seconds to go, sending it to overtime. And the jets won in double overtime. Wilmot, who had the worst collapse, the Blues or the Avalanche?
Mike Wilbon
Tony, I don't think, I don't think what the Blues had was a collapse. They got beat in a historic way that is going to be memorable for all time. For all time. Tony. It doesn't go away. I feel bad for the Blues, even though they're a rival of my Blackhawks, I feel bad for them because that goal with whatever point, seconds left, two point, whatever it was, that's just, that's stunning in and of itself. And then the, the loss, the overtime, the second overtime goal, that's a fluke. I know how that is.
Tony Kornheiser
We've.
Mike Wilbon
You and I have sat through many a Stanley cup playoff game that were decided in the second or third or fourth overtime Easter morning, thank you very much. On a fluke. No, that's not a collapse. And so I don't feel bad for the Avalanche necessarily. They got beat, they got beat by a Dallas team. And that was a normal Stanley cup playoff game. But the way the Blues lost, how do you shake that? How do you get out from under that?
Tony Kornheiser
Yes, first of all, I said it's Miko Rantanen. Okay, I got the name wrong. The former Colorado player who scored all these goals. Look, what happened to Colorado was bad, okay? They gave up four goals in the third. That's bad. And that's a choke.
Mike Wilbon
Hockey.
Tony Kornheiser
It's not one paragraph in the larger hockey roundup. It's not one paragraph compared to what happened with St. Louis and Winnipeg. If you are the St. Louis players, how do you live with this for the rest of your life? You are up in a game seven. You're up by two with two minutes to go. You're up by one with five seconds to go. This has never happened before. You just gave up two goals when the other team pulled its goalie. It's unprecedented. It's unthinkable. But maybe it should not be unforeseen because St. Louis gave up a league high 13 goals this year when the other team pulled a goalie. But still, Mike. And Winnipeg goes on. God bless, right? They avoid the curse of the President's trophy. But how do the St. Louis players go out there for the next time? How did they do that?
Mike Wilbon
You just want to go hide for the whole summer. It's unbelievable. I feel badly for them. I do.
Tony Kornheiser
Oh, wow, man. That. That's a headline. Let's take a break. Coming up, what was most compelling about The Nuggets Game 7 win over the Clippers?
Mike Wilbon
And Tony made me watch the horsies run the Kentucky Derby.
Tony Kornheiser
I did.
Mike Wilbon
We'll both tell you our biggest takeaways because mail time is next. Yeah, you can. Blue. I mean, honestly, I. I can't.
Tony Kornheiser
How do you. How do you go out, like when the season begins? Or do you say, I want out of here? Trade me.
Mike Wilbon
If you're looking. Plays for the blues. You would just want to leave the house before men.

Time to hear some babble from the rabble in mail time. Let me see what's first here. Okay, here we go. Glasses on which aspect of the Nuggets win over the Clippers did you find most compelling?
Mike Wilbon
Tony it won't be on court action. What I'm going to go to. I was lucky in that I got a chance to spend some time at this series and around these teams and around Denver, most interestingly because they fired their championship ring wearing coach Michael Malone with three games going the season and they promote David Adelman, son of Rick, who you and I got to see and cover and be around Rick and here's his son coaching the team and it seemed awfully odd at the beginning. We thought it was crazy. Well, it wasn't crazy, Tony, because my observation at being around him a little bit is that this is collaborative and these guys have a sense of relief and a mission of being about each other and they got a leader and I think he wears 15 and he's the big dude who may be the best player in the world. Probably is the best player in the world and that's what I observed about them. They're playing against a fully capable Clippers team. I know you're going to go off on James Harden. I'm going to let you. But Kawhi Leonard was great. The Clippers big zoo was terrific. He was your boy. Harden was.
Tony Kornheiser
Kawhi Leonard was minus.
Mike Wilbon
Kawhi Leonard was minus three, collaborative minus. Depends on who you are on the court with as well. But Denver and what they've done to recover with that huge switcheroo, it's impressive to me. That's what stands out to me.
Tony Kornheiser
What stands out to me. And you're right. It's James Harden. And I wrote you a bunch of texts.
Mike Wilbon
Yes, you do.
Tony Kornheiser
About James Harden. Because. Because I think James Harden is a great player. And you know that. We've sat on this show for years, multiple years, in which I've said, he should be the mvp.
Mike Wilbon
Yes.
Tony Kornheiser
And you've said, no, he shouldn't. I said, no, he should be the mvp. But what has happened to him recently in game seven is brutal. Okay, let me get to this. He had seven points in this game. He shot two for eight. He had seven points. And then he bailed out on the press conference afterwards. Now, maybe, maybe Ty Lu heard him a little bit because he played him 47 minutes in Game 6, but you want to put him out there because he's your best player. His last three game sevens. Here we go. Seven points, nine points, 22 points. Shot 10 of 36, shot 27% from the floor and 17% from three. It's just. It's totally brutal. It is.
Mike Wilbon
It's bad. Tony, he's a great player, but his game. 5, 6, and particularly 7 Evans are just.
Tony Kornheiser
And he's a terrific. He's a great player.
Mike Wilbon
Yes, he is.
Tony Kornheiser
He's a great player. Okay, what was your biggest takeaway from Saturday's Kentucky Derby?
Mike Wilbon
Well, first of all, that I watched it is a big takeaway. I had to call you six times to get the damn race time. What? It used to be 5:00 and now it's 7:00pm it's gonna be under the lights pretty soon, like a Saturday night SEC game. But the mud, Tony, first of all, I didn't want it to be running in the mud early in the day. You said to me, is it raining in Chicago? As if that would determine the forecast in Lexington. But it was raining in both, so I'll give you that. But the mud, it just made it spectacular. And they're covered in it and it doesn't seem to affect them, even though I know the times are slower. I was rooting for journalism. Of course I was rooting for journalism, but it was riveting. I hate to admit this to you because I usually skip it, but it was riveting.
Tony Kornheiser
Okay, so my biggest takeaway is that you watched that. You actually watched the horses.
Mike Wilbon
I did.
Tony Kornheiser
You and 21.8 million people watched that race. That's an enormous number. Right. And so I was really proud of you that you watched it. Yeah. It starts really late When I was covering these things, it seemed to me it started about 5:20 or 5:30, because it started now after 7:00. After 7:00. I think that everybody sort of felt that you would come to the top of the stretch with Journalism and Sovereignty, that the front runners would back off a little bit, but most people then felt journalism would win. I, like you, was rooting for journalism just because what we did for so long in our lives. But Sovereignty was a stronger horse and began to pull away. And I, like you, was amazed that at the end of the race, all the horses looked alike. They all were covered with mud. The gray horses, the brown horses, they all looked exactly like. And Mike, what I wonder about is, do you think people turned into that or tuned into that because of the mud? In the way that you tune into an NFL game because of the snow?
Mike Wilbon
NFL game lasted three hours. The race lasted two minutes. You don't have time to do anything.
Tony Kornheiser
I think that you get into it about a half hour before. By the time they look at your.
Mike Wilbon
Test, in any case, you know, it's over.
Tony Kornheiser
Here's what bothers me.
Mike Wilbon
What?
Tony Kornheiser
What bothers me is the notion that both those horses may not go to the Preakness.
Mike Wilbon
You see that?
Tony Kornheiser
I want them to go to the Preakness and they may not.
Mike Wilbon
I'm not watching the Preakness if they're not. By the way, I know Churchill Downs is in Louisville, essentially, not Lexington. I got carried away with University of Kentucky.
Tony Kornheiser
Don't worry about it. It's still in the same Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Mike Wilbon
Enough email Commonwealth.
Tony Kornheiser
Let's take one last break. Still to come, Katie Ledecky, our own. Katie Ledecky.
Mike Wilbon
Katie Ledecky, our own.
Tony Kornheiser
That's something she hadn't done in seven years. Years.
Mike Wilbon
But that's just Marlin's own. And a prediction as the Knicks and Celtics open their series in Boston tonight. Going to this series?
Tony Kornheiser
Oh, yeah.
Mike Wilbon
Going to.
Tony Kornheiser
You don't like to predict things. You don't like to predict things. You like to just watch them.
Mike Wilbon
I can predict. We weren't on the air Sunday to predict the Warriors. I, I, I can't go against the Warriors. I just can't do it. I'm not going to do it.

Happy time people. Happy 34th birthday, Austin Adams While pitching for the Padres in 2021, the reliever set the major league live ball record for most batters hit in a season. 24. Adams needed only 49⅓ innings to hit this many people. Adams is currently pitching for the Red Sox AAA affiliate in Worcester, Mass. Where he hasn't hit anyone in three appearances in four innings. Other than 2021, Adams pitched in seven major league seasons where he hit only 20 batters total and never more than 13. In one season, he has 188 major league appearances, a 77 record and a 410 ERA. Nothing drives you crazier than relief pitchers who let runners on base do walks. Hit batsman and I know because NAT relievers do this all the time.
Mike Wilbon
I'm gonna go with two and a half the number of times he must have hit Anthony Rizzo because Rizzo crowds the plate. He's just leaning over the plate like hitters used to do in the 1940s and 50s and 60s. People don't do that anymore. That's a lot of guys to hit in one season. It's 2021. Who remembers that? Anyway, right after the pandemic, I don't remember 2021.
Tony Kornheiser
Happy anniversary Dave Kingman around this day 41 years ago, while with the A's, the towering slugger hit a pop up high over second base that actually never came down. It nestled in a draining hole in the roof of the Metrodome. With no rule in place for this outcome, the umpires awarded Kingman a roof ruled double. On the 20th anniversary of that play, the Twins invited Kingman to throw out the first pitch before the hurricane closed Tropicana Field. For this season season, the Rays had similar issues with low hanging catwalks. So if a ball hit off a catwalk and was caught in fair territory, it was an out the ball didn't come down. It was a double. If it hit a catwalk in foul territory, it was a dead ball.
Mike Wilbon
Those domes need to go away. The Metro Dome has been gone. Beautiful open air stadium in Minnesota. It was great for football, not for baseball. Don't even get me started on the Tropicana, whatever that junk was. Get that stuff outta here.
Tony Kornheiser
Heavy trails to Katie Ledecky's own world record in the 800 freestyle. Ledecky broke her nine year old world record in the 800 free on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, swimming the distance 67/100 of a second faster than she did in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Since that time, no one had come within two seconds of the mark. It's Ledecky's first new world record in seven years and the 28 year old now owns the 10 fastest times in history in the 800 free. Ledecky has nine golds and 14 overall medals across four Olympics and has said she intends to compete at the Los Angeles games in 2028 when she'll be 31.
Mike Wilbon
You know, we don't live in Texas or California or Florida where you can ring every other doorbell. And there's probably a kid who's at least in the Olympic trials in suburban Maryland. Bethesda, Maryland. Katie Ledecky. We've watched her since the beginning and hope she does compete in the next Olympics. Congratulations.
Tony Kornheiser
One omission. The Ravens released kicker Justin Tucker. The organization maintains it is a football decision.
Mike Wilbon
Who believes that nonsense?
Tony Kornheiser
Let's go to the big finish. Michigan football head coach Jerome Moore is expected to get a two game suspension for the Connor Stallion. Spying issue. Is that okay with you?
Mike Wilbon
No. There's no rules anymore. It just looks old and stupid. No, it's not okay. Scotty Shepler won the Byron Nelson with a record tying 253. That's 31 under. I know you're impressed.
Tony Kornheiser
I am. Van Rooyen was 23 under. He'll never be 23 under again. He didn't win eight shots off. Royals hit seven home runs against the O's on Sunday. Is that significant?
Mike Wilbon
Well, considering they hit only 18 in their first 34 games, yeah. Washington D.C. d.C. Will host the 2027 NFL Draft on the Mall. You going? You gonna attend that?
Tony Kornheiser
Green Bay got 200,000 people in a parking lot. D.C. will get a half a million. Last one Knicks, Celtics series starts tonight. I know you care. You want to make a prediction?
Mike Wilbon
I'm gonna say Celtics in six. It's gonna be a tough series. The question is how the Celtics are gonna react to the next series. The Knicks can take a lot out of them even if they can't win.
Tony Kornheiser
We're out of time. We're try and do better the next time. I'm Tony Cornheim.
Mike Wilbon
I'm Mike Wilbon. Same time tomorrow, knucklehead.

In case you didn't know, these young men are driven. They are prodigies, the savants, the ones we've been waiting for. Like Damian Lillard, for instance. He doesn't see guidance or mentorship. He's a leader. He isn't waiting for the baton to be passed to him. He's taking it for himself. He's relentless in a pursuit of greatness, always pushing to one up himself. He is accomplished, but far from satisfied. He embodies what it means to have an unstoppable drive and are shaking up the status quo in their community and beyond. And Damian Lillard drives a Toyota. A new generation of Toyota drivers are here. And they want you to know one thing. You can't stop my drive.

St. Louis Blues vs. Winnipeg Jets
The discussion shifts to the Blues’ loss against the Winnipeg Jets in double overtime, with Tony expressing disbelief at how the Blues failed to close out the game despite holding a lead. Michigan Football Controversy
Towards the end of the episode, a brief mention is made about Michigan football head coach Jerome Moore’s impending suspension due to a spying issue. Tony asks, “Is that okay with you?” to which Michael responds, “No. There's no rules anymore. It just looks old and stupid” (23:30).
