Back in March, the ABC revealed that the Prime Minister's department had requested modelling for a gas and coal tax to shield Australia from the impact of the Iran war, specifically, modelling for levy options to tax the windfall profits being made by coal and gas companies during the conflict. The Prime Minister's department also asked Treasury to work up options for further reform of the Petroleum Resources Rent Tax. But now - it's understood the Prime Minister is opposed to any such move in next month's budget, given the current fuel crisis.
