Trick Williams
It's time for wwe.
Announcer
Now.
Trick Williams
Let's welcome to the stage Sam Roberts and Megan Morant.
Sam Roberts
Oh, thank you everybody. Welcome to Fanatics Fest. How are we all doing?
Megan Morant
Wow, you guys brought the energy today. What's going on?
Sam Roberts
I love this day one of Fanatics Fest. Already packed, already ready. Some of the best experiences. Megan, is there anything specifically that you're looking forward to seeing doing while we're here?
Megan Morant
I am looking forward to the fan entrances during Fanatics Games.
Sam Roberts
Ah, Superstar entrance. Anybody participating in Fanatics Fest games? No, no, no, no, no. This is because that's where you separate the. The men from the boys. Okay, that, that's one of the highly competitive things happening at Fanatics Fest. But you know, one of the, one of the big parts of this is, of course, shows like this getting the opportunity to do live podcasts in front of everybody. And it's not just about, you know, seeing myself, Sam Roberts and Megan Morant and WWE now being represented, but it's about seeing some of the biggest superstars in the world of sports and entertainment, specifically wwe. Megan, should. Should we introduce our guests, do you think?
Megan Morant
What do you guys think? Do you think it's time for us to introduce our guests? Should we bring him out here? The people want it.
Sam Roberts
Well, then, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to WWE now the United States Champion, Trick Williams. Oh, Trick Williams, everybody.
Trick Williams
Let's talk about it.
Megan Morant
I love it. We had someone in. In the audience doing the little Booker T. We know they're an og.
Trick Williams
Wait, wait. Y' all know the ad lib for the Booker T. And the Whoop that Trick. Anth, let me hear them. Whoop that trick. Whoop that trick. Whoop that trick. Whoop that Trick. Oh, yeah, man.
Sam Roberts
That's the best one.
Trick Williams
I like it. I like it.
Sam Roberts
Yeah. You know, it was interesting right before we came out, they said, sam, when the music plays, see if you can get, you know, the crowd to kind of whoop that trick along with it. And I said, I don't think I'm gonna need to do any work to get this crowd to chant those words.
Trick Williams
With that, every single time I come to New York, these fans know how to have a good time. What's up, New York, baby?
Megan Morant
Trick, that's been the craziest part because a lot of us have been following your journey since your time on nxt. But immediately when you debuted on the main roster, that reaction was there from the jump. What was that like for you?
Trick Williams
It's unbelievable. It's unreal. No pun intended. You know, just knowing that all the hard work that you put in over the years, the people recognize it. They love some of the views I have from the past. They know about the tna, excuse me, the Trick and a world title run I had over there. They know about Trick Mellow Gang, way back in the day. So I appreciate that. Love, man. And here we are today.
Sam Roberts
Was there any part of you when that debut happened, when you get to the main roster, that wondered whether or not the audience was going to know whether or not the audience was going to know to chant Whoop that Trick? Whether or not the audience was going to be familiar with exactly who you were, you know?
Trick Williams
No. There it is. He said he was already going to know, but, you know, I knew no matter what happened at the end of the night, everybody was going to be able to whoop that trick. And that's what happened.
Sam Roberts
That's exactly what happened. You know, a lot's been said about Booker T's commentary. And the Internet loves talking. The Internet always talks. But from your perspective, as somebody who was a part of one of the many times Booker T. Has invested fully from a commentary perspective, how important is it for you that Booker T. Did what Booker T. Does on commentary for you?
Trick Williams
Man, Booker T. Is special man. And I call him my uncle because I truly do believe that Booker T. Is my uncle. Y' all like, no, he saw me before a time when it was the popular belief that Trick Williams was going to be the next big superstar or anything like that. Booker T. He saw me and he said, hey, look, man, I see what you're doing. I like what you're doing. But let me, Let me help you out. Let me show you how to, you know, look at that camera and pose this way so your muscles look good and talk a little bit more trash right here in this part of the game. And he was just able to teach me the game and elevate my game to the next level so I could be that superstar and continue to grow every single day. And you know, he did at a time when it wasn't the popular thing. So I always appreciate that. And speaking of Booker T.
American Express Gold Advertiser
Word through
Trick Williams
the grapevine is Booker T. Wants one more match.
Stitch Fix Advertiser
What?
Megan Morant
What?
Trick Williams
Let's talk about it. He said he wants one more match, and I think it's only right. It's only befitting if his last match is with the man that he helped mold into the superstar that he is today. Now, I was thinking, what better time like the present, maybe within the next year. So how would y' all like to see Booker T.
American Express Advertiser
Wow.
Trick Williams
Versus the anointed one, Trick Williams? Make some noise. Let the world know if you want to see Booker T. By strict Williams.
Sam Roberts
I mean, that really would be incredible.
Trick Williams
Just one more time. One more, one more time. He needs that farewell match, you know what I mean?
Sam Roberts
Yeah.
Trick Williams
He's receiving his flowers.
Sam Roberts
And do you think that that would be the right move if Booker T. Has one more match in him? Is Trick the right guy to get it? I mean, they've spoken.
Trick Williams
It is. The people have spoken.
Sam Roberts
I think I see some concern on the face of the people at Fanatics Fest. And I think I even saw some concern from Megan Moran a minute ago because we want to know, you didn't shave this title belt, did you? Because last we saw was bespeckled in white fur.
Trick Williams
That's right.
Sam Roberts
You didn't shave it down, did you?
Trick Williams
That's right. That right. See, the thing is, my all white fur title I keep it in a special box. I keep it manicured to perfection. That way it smells good and it looks good every single time. You're gonna see it on Friday Night smackdown. But right here is what I carry on my day to day. But usually I keep the all white hair on it, you know what I mean? The all white fur, just like the Trick Willie coat. And speaking of that title, last week Baron Corbin came in and jumped on myself and Carmelo Hayes. And I think I know why Baron Corbin did it. It wasn't because he wanted to be just like Trick Williams.
Stitch Fix Advertiser
No, no, no.
Trick Williams
It wasn't just because of that. Wasn't because I'm in a run of my lifetime right now. And he was jealous. He was mad because my title had more hair than he does.
Megan Morant
Oh, my God, yes. Sam's actually jealous of that too, which is why he brought it up.
Trick Williams
Sorry, Sam. It wasn't personal.
Sam Roberts
I mean, some people choose some people. Maybe it's a choice. We don't know.
Trick Williams
That's right.
Sam Roberts
We don't know.
Trick Williams
We don't know.
Sam Roberts
I mean, I love Baron Corbin coming back.
Trick Williams
That's right.
Sam Roberts
And being the one to go for you. Because, you know, I think Baron Corbin a few years back was in a similar position to you a few years back. Baron Corbin had come through nxt. Baron Corbin was a new face in the wwe. Baron Corbin accomplished a lot in the wwe and now he shows up in that veteran position, stopping you. What is it like for you right now to be in this space where you're one of a handful of new talent that people are saying this is, this is what the future of the company is?
Trick Williams
That's right, man. Shout out to Baron Corbin, former football player himself. You know, I mean, and we ran into each other a few times at nxt. But yeah, with that being said, it's a whole new era now. It's myself, it's Opa Femi, you know, Javon Evans, and we hungry. We want that top spot. Baron Corbin, he's had his time. I mean, he's had his title runs, he's defeated, you know, some of the best names in the game today. If I'm not mistaken, he was the last man to pin Roman Reigns for a very, very long time. And, you know, he deserves his flowers. But today in 2026 is the Whoop Dad Trick era. And Baron Kobe is going to see a whole new version, a whole new level of Superstar that he's never seen before. Let's talk about it.
Megan Morant
You. You mentioned the handful of guys that everybody's been talking about, about Javon Evans, Oba Femi, yourself, Ron Breaker, Sol Ruga, everybody coming up from NXT and making an instant impact. You don't really strike me as the guy who would, would come up and, you know, stand on the sidelines for a little while and take your turn, wait your turn. So how has that been to come up and really make a splash right
Trick Williams
away, man, look, it's a dream come true. Now I say it's unreal. And that's not because the show is coming out on July 21st on NetFL, is because it's really been unreal. You never know how your career is going to pan out, how people gonna take to you when, you know, you pop into the new brands and everything like that. With that being said, man, when you hungry and you got that dog in you, when you've been through the fire, you know what I mean? Look, I played football for 20 years, worked my way up, walked on just to get to the Philadelphia Eagles, just to get cut, just to get a second chance at life, a second chance to make my name in the wwe. You think I wasn't going to go hard? You thought I wasn't gonna let the people feel my name was the champ? Whoop that trick. Every single chance I get. Look, man, every single time that red light's on, I'm gonna put on a show and the people gonna know who Trick Williams is. Because there's no tomorrow. It's only for today. And you gonna see me today.

Megan Morant
Was there ever a part of you, though, having not come from a wrestling background that had any sort of. Sort of imposter syndrome when you came into this world?
Trick Williams
You know, the crazy thing is my brother says it all the time. He says, I have delusional faith in my mind. I've been a superstar my whole life. And I told you this before, Sam, like my first password on my Yahoo, AOL or whatever it was. Superstar. I played football, but in my mind, I guess I just didn't know it. You know, football was a popular thing. My pops played football. From where I'm from, a lot of people play football. But I grew up a fan of the WWE Universe. My first cuts were to open a can of whoopee at 3 years old. I was smaller than you watching Stone Cold Steve Austin and I just knew, man, that could be me one day. I just didn't. I thought it was football. I thought football was my lane. But as soon as I got the opportunity to become a WWE Superstar, fit like a glove. No imposter syndrome. I was home. I took my shirt off. I haven't put one on since.
Sam Roberts
That's true. I mean, I've seen you do local news shows in Oklahoma City and you show up at 7 o' clock in the morning with no shirt. Do you own shirts or you don't? That's. You save money.
Trick Williams
Three shirts and they in the dry cleaners right now. But it's a proven fact. But Trick Williams takes off his shirt the Visual attendance increases 30 with women all across America. I'm just trying to help TV.
Stitch Fix Advertiser
Wow.
Sam Roberts
Wow. What do you what is. You know, Megan talks about this group of talent that's in now, you being a huge part of that in terms of your mentality when you go, okay, it's important to be a part of this class at the same time, you need to stand out from that class. How much of you is going, hey, the group of us is going to take this place over. And how much of you is going, no, I'm going to take this whole group of talent over?
Trick Williams
You know, the thing is, you know, I've never been the one to compare myself to nobody else. Because the truth is, even if I wanted to be overfimme, I couldn't be overfilling. The truth is, if Over Philly wanted to be Trick Williams, he couldn't be Trick Williams. It wouldn't look right if he was in the all White all the time talking trash with the lemon pepper steppers on. There's only one Trick Williams. I leave it to the people. I let the people decide who they want to be their number one. But either way, Trick Williams gotta be Trick Williams. I can't be nobody else and I just know does overfit me one as bad as Trick Williams wanted. Does Javon Evans wanted as bad as Trick Williams wanted? Does Carmelo Hayes want as bad as Trick Williams wanted? I don't think so. I'm willing to fight for it every single day. Best man may win. Let's talk about it.
Sam Roberts
That is. I mean, that's part of wrestling, right? It's like, it's good to see people succeed, but the last thing you want to do is share. You're not here to share.
Trick Williams
That's right. That's right, man. I ain't here to share. Look, man, look, man, I've been very fortunate, very blessed with my career, man. I got a legacy title. I know you can't see it right now. I got a legacy title seven months into my run on smackdown.
American Express Gold Advertiser
Man.
Trick Williams
I can't complain at all. And we just getting started.
Sam Roberts
We were. You were on the radio with me yesterday, and we were Talking about NXT 2.0, where you came from, where you made your.
American Express Gold Advertiser
Your.
Sam Roberts
Your TV debut. And it's really interesting to me now that we've got some space between that launch and. And what's happened.
Trick Williams
Yeah.
Sam Roberts
Because I think when NXT 2.0 came out, it was a shock to the system for wrestling fans. I think that we didn't know what to make of it. I remember after that first episode, all of us complaining about how many debuts there were. We don't know who anybody is complaining. No, not me
Megan Morant
over here was complaining quite a bit.
Sam Roberts
No, I don't think I was. That was somebody else. But with the point being, I think, and we were talking about this, that a lot of you guys were in a sink or swim scenario where maybe, you know, it wasn't like. I don't think it had been this thing where it's like, okay, you're all ready for television at the same time. Maybe you weren't. But it Was like, either get ready or get gone.
Trick Williams
That's right.
Sam Roberts
And I think that that sink or swim mentality, we didn't know it at the time. Why? Guys like you and Braun Breaker and a huge amount of talent that showed up out of Nowhere for the 2.0 launch has been so incredibly successful over the years. Do you think that. That people have kind of realized, like, am I onto something there? Do you think that people realize that that sink or swim scenario that you guys were all in has shaped. Shaped a generation to an extent?
Trick Williams
For sure. For sure. I mean, I feel like pressure makes diamonds.
Sam Roberts
Yeah.
Trick Williams
And, you know, when that 2.0 era kicked off, everybody was not excited about it. And that's the truth. But the truth is no change needed to happen, you know, I mean, for something new to grow, y' all get out with the old. Sometimes I would say shout out to all the guys who came before us, you know, the Tommaso Ciampas, the Johnny Gargano's, all those guys who laid down the foundation, put NXT in a great position for us to be able to have a show. You know, I mean, for us to be able to get out there and do our thing. So we grateful for that. But I also do feel like our crop is very, very, very special. When you talk about Bron Breaker, we talk about the Creed brothers, we talk about Tony d', Angelo, he's still at NXT doing this thing. It has every single title known to man in the NXT division. Shout out to my boy, Tony d', Angelo, Grayson Waller, Carmelo Hayes, all of us, we had a chip on our shoulder, man, because we was throwing it to the deep end. It was sink or swim. And everybody's swimming right now, man. I'm proud of my boys and my ladies, especially the last legend I know. I can say that.
Sam Roberts
You know, speaking of sink or swim, I feel like you were in a scenario like that recently, and that scenario involved a character named the Gingerbread Man.
Megan Morant
We're going there, we're going there.
Sam Roberts
Rest in peace. The Gingerbread man was one of those scenarios where people felt one way or the other about.
Trick Williams
Right.
Sam Roberts
That's right. There were a lot of people that said, this has got to be the worst thing I've ever seen.
Megan Morant
Who?
Trick Williams
Who said that?
Sam Roberts
Not me.
Trick Williams
Who said that?
Sam Roberts
Somebody said, not me. But a lot of people said, no, no, no, no, no. This is the best thing that I've ever seen.
Trick Williams
That's right.
Sam Roberts
And for me, stuff like that in this world is all about commitment to what is happening.
Trick Williams
That's right.
Sam Roberts
Was there ever a time in the whole process of the gingerbread man story where your confidence was wavering?
Trick Williams
That's a good question right there, Sam. But not at all. Because when you look at that whole gingerbread man segment, when you look at that funeral that we have for the gingerbread man, if you look at what we did to Sami Zayn, if you look at what we did to Sami Zayn, we had a grown future hall of famer, no doubt about it. Sami Zayn, who's been in the best in the main events of WrestleMania, been on a honorary oops and everything he can, had his first segment, my first segment against Sami Zayn, Trick Williams, and had him sweating in his boots, had him knocking down water bottles, doing everything he could just, you know, catch his momentum back and everything like that. We came out with a song named Gingerbread man. And let me tell you, the song Gingerbread man with Trick Williams and Lil Yachty did millions of views on YouTube. Can we talk about that for a second? Thank you very much.
Sam Roberts
Yes.
Trick Williams
Then we had a whole funeral segment, everything with Sami Zayn. And look, Trick Williams came out a much bigger star after Sami Zayn in the gingerbread segment. I went to France, I went to Italy, I went to Spain, Barcelona, Portugal. I went to Saudi Arabia. And they still chant gingerbread man till this day at Sammy Zayn. So you tell me, Sam, is that a win? I think it's a win.
Sam Roberts
I think it's a win.
Trick Williams
It's a win.
American Express Gold Advertiser
Man.
Trick Williams
Man, let's talk about it.
Sam Roberts
I think it's a win. I think it's a win for all involved. I think if you look at that gingerbread man story, that story is foundational to Sami Zayn. Kind of losing his mind a little bit.
Trick Williams
That's right.
Sam Roberts
And bringing him to the position where he became the WWE Champion.
Trick Williams
Man, that gingerbread story was so good that Shrek had to come out with another movie that they dropping soon to capitalize on the Gingerbread Man. Tell me it wasn't a good storyline.
Sam Roberts
No, I think it was good. Were you surprised at all that Sami Zayn's WWE title reign only lasted nine days? What are your thoughts on this?
Trick Williams
I mean, I hate it for him. Oh, well, Chick Willie's turn. It should have been me
Megan Morant
before we were talking about Sammy and the gingerbread man. Sam was talking about just like, full commitment to things. And when you talk about full, fully committing to a storyline, fully committing to a character, I think about boat, Lil Yachty, because I think there's been A lot of. Yeah, that's right. Give it up for Yachty.
Trick Williams
Can we get some noise for my dog Lil Yachty, please?
Megan Morant
But, you know, there's a lot of conversation. Oh, should celebrities be involved in wwe? And people online have various opinions on that. But I think we can all agree what Yachty has brought to the table as a manager. What has it been like for you to work with Yachty and for this extended period of time? Because when he showed up with you, no one knew it was going to turn into what it is now for sure.
Grainger Advertiser
For sure.
Trick Williams
I mean, I'm going start by saying this. Yachty has earned every second of screen time that he gets because he has. He is committed to the game. You know what I mean? He loves the WWE Universe as much as everybody out here, as much as and myself, and that's where we come together. And on top of that, Yachty is my friend. I get to go out there every single Friday. I get to talk trash, get to w every single week with my friend by my side, and we looking out for one another. He loves the business and he ain't here. He said, I want to be at everything. He probably gonna pull up today. Who knows, you know, I mean, he said, I want to be at everything. I want to be at the house shows. I want to be all traveling across the world. I want to be part of the WWE Universe universe. And now he is. We're gonna have a good time and probably have some tag matches sometime soon or something like that. I mean, he's training, he's in the gym all the time. So. No, we're gonna make sure that happens.
Sam Roberts
I think. I think what's endearing about it is that as a fan, when I watch and you tell me if you agree, it's very clear that Yachty is living out a dream. Yeah, it's very clear that he's not out here promoting an album.
Announcer
Right.
Sam Roberts
He's not out here trying to get attention to his music career. He's out here being a bad guy wrestling manager and hyping up Trick Williams to the highest level possible. And I think that. I think that there's an authenticity to the way in which he does it that makes it so not only like, is that contagious, but it elevates the whole act that is Trick Williams.
Trick Williams
That's right. That's right, man. He's very selfish, man. He's a superstar, you know, platinum selling diamond artists multiple times. But he gets to be part of the WWE Universe. That's what he wants. To do. He wants to be here with everybody, man. He loves it. And I'm glad he's able to do that. Man, we just getting started.
Sam Roberts
You know, it's interesting going back to your NXT days, I think there's a lot of superstars that have these moments where a lot of us go, okay, that guy's ready. And they don't come up. I think the same thing happened to Bron Breakker, the same thing happened to you where there's this whole other wave of the NXT run that we didn't necessarily see coming. And for you, it meant number one, being a villain in nxt. But I think even more importantly, being the TNA world champion, how valuable to your whole experience as a wrestler and your experience in being ready to be a superstar on the main roster, how valuable is being the TNA champion today?
Trick Williams
Man, being the TNA champion was everything, man. That was the experience that I needed to really, you know, become that more polished, well rounded, more confident superstar that I could be, you know, And TNA isn't quite like wwe, you know, I mean, not as many producers, not as much help around. Some may call TNA the Wild Wild West. So if you're able to survive in the wild wild west, then you can become a superstar anywhere. And I was able to take tna. Look, man, I had a lot of help, a lot of great guys there moves, the Hardee's, everybody was there. But main evented the two largest shows in TNA history as a part timer, as a trick and a world champion. Man, that's one of my most prideous moments in being in the business. Being there, being part of that system, getting them a TV deal at AMC and everything, everything like that. So I'm just grateful for that whole experience with tna shout out to everything they got going on.
Megan Morant
I mean, you look back at the TNA run now, I mean, it's quite evident how much of an impact it made on your career on the main roster. But was there ever a part of you that was so eager to get called up to RAW or to smackdown that felt a bit of frustration that you were in nxt, NXT and tna?
Trick Williams
Yeah, for sure. That's a competitor in all of us. No, everybody wants to get to the main roster. Everybody wants to get to their WrestleMania moments. Everybody wants to lock up with some of the best like Randy Orton and everything like that. When I've been at NXT for four years at that point, five years, thinking I did everything I could do. But TNA was the perfect segue, the perfect bridge to keep me busy and like, nah, Trick, there's still a lot for you to learn. Stay right here and get better at the. Your craft. Work different people, learn from somebody else who's been doing this way longer than you that way. When I got to the main roster and that first segment with Sami Zayn, I'm ready for Sami Zayn. Then it's Randy Orton. I'm ready for Randy Orton. Come on, man. Moose has a bigger head than anybody in the wrestling business. You going to think I was ready for Randy Orton? Come on, man.
Sam Roberts
TNA was very necessary, you know, like, as a fan watching the amount that I watch as closely as I watch it, there are these, there are these, you know, moments where I can feel in my, my perception is, oh, that person has it. Like, oh, that person just went to another level. You can kind of feel it, you know what I mean? Where you go like, no, they are. They knew it. But that just went from 8 to 9. That just went from 9 to 10. And there's no looking back after it. As a performer. Can you feel that? Can you get to those moments, like whether it's being TNA champion, whether it's the story with Sammy, whether it's winning the United States Championship, Are there moments where you're like, man, I, I thought I was good before, but I just clicked on to something there.
Trick Williams
You know, my first moment that I had that was with the match that a lot of people know of, some may not, because it was at NXT with Ilya Dragunov, the Mad Dragon. And I got to give my kudos to Ilya Dragon Off. You know, he's my friend to this day. You know, he was actually in the wedding, you know, all the way to Jamaica. You know, I mean, he came to the wedding, excuse me. But man, it was a fight, nothing more, nothing less. We fought, you know, 25 minutes, bleeding, everything like that. You know, I mean, it is either sink or swim right now. Is Ilya Dragon off gonna defeat you? Are you gonna make your name right now? Put your fork in the ground and let everybody know that you're here to stay. And Mad Dragon, Ilya Dragunov was the one who could take me to that level, who propelled me to everything that you see. And now shout out to the Mad Drag.
Sam Roberts
When you think about Trick Williams, because I think one of the things that makes your, the Trick Williams character so unique is that you do a lot of stuff, the quote unquote, bad guy wrestlers would do, but the audience makes the sound that they would make for a good guy wrestler. They Cheer what you do. When you think about Trick Williams and who Trick Williams is, is Trick Williams a good guy or a bad guy?
Trick Williams
Well, let me ask the people. Do y' all think I'm a bad guy? Y' all think I'm a good guy? Hey, look, man, the truth is, I feel like good guy, bad guy, who knows? Trip Williams does some bad things sometimes. Trick Williams does some good things sometimes. Let's talk about it. But, you know, I might be the villain in somebody's story. Like if your name is Sami Zayn, and I might be the hero on somebody else's. You know, Trick Williams is just Trick Williams. You know, good or bad, as long as the people allow, as long as the people having a good time, Trick Willie is happy.
Sam Roberts
That answers. It doesn't. You know, Trick, I mean, WWE has not only brought you success in your professional life, it's brought you success in your personal life. You're part of one of the, one of the great love stories in real life in the WWE with Lash Legend, of course.
Trick Williams
Can we get some noise for the Legend herself?
Sam Roberts
Yes, yes.
Trick Williams
I know she's all the way back in Orlando, but is this camera on me? I'm thinking about you, girl. Good for you.
Sam Roberts
Good for you. What is it like to be a part of a pro wrestling super couple? You know, some people go, you know, I. The separation is important. Yeah, obviously, others want to share everything in life. For you to not only be going through this ascension in the world of professional wrestling, but to do it alongside side your partner and for you two to be kind of doing it simultaneously. What has that been like for you guys as a couple?
Trick Williams
It's been nothing but a blessing. I mean, the support, my growth, you know, since we first got together. Let me tell y', all, I'm gonna tell y' all something that I ain't never told nobody. The first day, me and Lash Legend decided, hey, we gonna do this. We're gonna be together. She said yes. Okay, now I need for you to put on 30 pounds. That's the first thing she told me. I weighed 212 pounds at the time. I am now 245 pounds.
Sam Roberts
Wow.
Trick Williams
You know what I'm saying?
Megan Morant
You listen, you listen.
Trick Williams
I listen to it.
Shopify Advertiser
Have to.
Trick Williams
She said no. She wants me to be big enough to be with her first thing first. You know, I mean, I gotta carry a certain type of prowess, but she wanted me to look like a main eventer. She wanted me to look like a heavyweight. And you could literally see the progress of my Life and my booking and everything. Just everything going up with my weight, you know, just having my lady by my side, being on my team, you know, me packing my bags, helping me know my success and her success, her success and my success. And we a team and we work together.
Megan Morant
So, yes, I don't think it's talked about enough. Yeah, give it up for Lash.
Trick Williams
Give it up for Lash.
Megan Morant
But I don't think it's talked about enough how unbelievably athletic and accomplished last legend is. I mean, she still holds an NCAA record.
Trick Williams
Still holding NCAA records. I mean, she taught me how to do a backflip. A lot of you not, you know. I mean, she taught me how to do a backflip, like, and she doesn't do it on TV all the time, but she's just as acrobatic as any girl in the wwe, believe it or not.
Megan Morant
Would you say she's the athlete in the relationship if you had to?
Trick Williams
Come on, Meg, you're starting problems. Meg, you're starting problems. But the truth is, man, you gotta look at the numbers, man. She is that girl.
Megan Morant
That's what I'm saying.
Trick Williams
Like, look at her numbers at Texas A and M, Mississippi State, Drafted to Seattle Storm. You know Trick Williams? He plays the football at South Carolina. Game cops. Any game cards in the house? Not today. Don't worry about it. Any Philadelphia Eagles in the house? Oh, yeah. We in New York. You know what I mean? So there it is.
Sam Roberts
No, I mean, I kind of wish you hadn't told that story. I think it sets a dangerous precedent. If my wife ever came to me and said, I'm gonna need you to put 30 pounds of muscle on, I'm finished. It's done.
Trick Williams
Get that Amex gold cart ready.
American Express Advertiser
I'm way too tired to cook tonight.

Sam Roberts
But I guess, you know, you gotta.
Grainger Advertiser
You.
Sam Roberts
You have to do these things. And then look at that. I mean, as confident as you are for Lash to be able at that point to step up and go, I don't. I don't know if you understand who I am. I need you to look like. To be. I need you to look like a main event that's right. Not for. Not for you, not for the visit for me.
Trick Williams
For me.
Sam Roberts
Because I need to walk around with you.
Trick Williams
That's right, man. A queen on your arm is the best thing that can happen to you, man. You know, I mean, because she represents me and I represent her. So I'm gonna make sure I'm on top of my game and she gonna make sure she on top of hers.
Sam Roberts
When did you realize that white was your color?
Trick Williams
White was my color.
American Express Gold Advertiser
Yeah.
Trick Williams
So true story. I lie to you not when I debuted. I came out and I interrupted Sami Zayn. I had the all white fur coat on. I had the tight fitted white pants. And of course I was rocking my lemon pepper steppers. That's right. And then I came out the next week and I changed it up and I was wearing some black gear and I did something with Randy Orton and then Triple H comes to me and says, where's your coat? I said, oh, okay. I was thinking, it wasn't my coat, it was just a coat. You know what I mean? Bruce Pritchard comes to me, where's your coat, Michael Hayes? Where's your coat? I said, oh, I get it now. Then Michael Hayes says, I never saw Elvis Presley without his coat. So that's my coat now. And I've been rocking the white ever since. But it makes it simple. I love the white, you know, I mean, the white looks good. Now we got an all white legacy title just to match the fur coat because I stuck to the white action figures coming soon on the way.
Sam Roberts
Did somebody come to you with that legacy title and say, this is what we want to do? Was it your idea? I mean, how did this come about?
Trick Williams
That's lil Yachty, man. Lil Yachty all the way through.
Sam Roberts
What do you think of. You're a big part of the upcoming season of Unreal starts next week. But you know, part of the. That the season three of Unreal is a lot about the guys like John Cena leaving, Seth Rollins being injured, you know, the, the sort of established talent going and this new crop coming in. And, and part of that is you. What was it like to be followed around by the Unreal cameras and how are you feeling knowing that the people that watch that show are going to see that side of Trick Williams, man,
Trick Williams
it was a dope experience. You know, you will get to see a, you know, a different side of Trick Williams. You know how prepared for the, the matches, you know how I deal with the pressure, you know, you know how I prepare for, you know, these big moments. You Know me and Lash going on some dates, different things like that. And I'm very fortunate that Trick Williams is not polar opposite to who I am, you know, I mean, it's not like some character that I put on, you know, for Friday night. No, Trick Williams is part of Matric. Mattrick is my birth name. Trick Williams fits right inside of Mattrick. So when you turn that red light on a little bit longer, you dig deep inside to see who Trick Williams is. That's what you're going to get when you turn into unreal. You'll see Trick Williams a little bit more vulnerable side. You get to see who I truly am.
Sam Roberts
I love it. I love it. You had a match on smackdown. We were talking about Baron Corbin interrupted it, but before we got there, it was you and Melo. And I think for a lot of us that have been watching both of your careers in the WWE from the very beginning and watching that story from the very beginning, it was kind of an amazing thing to see because it felt right, it felt fitting, but also it feels like you and Melo are two completely different entities than the people that we met in nxt. What was it like for you as recently as last week, wrestling that match with Carmelo Hayes?
Trick Williams
You know, it's weird. It's like somebody who used to be best friends with. Has anybody had a best friend that you grew up with and went to high school with and did so many things with, and then you see them five years later, ten years later, it's like you know him, but you don't know him no more, you know, and that's kind of what it is with Melos. Like, I know him, but this a whole different Carmelo Hayes. I'm a whole different Trick Williams. But luckily, I've been watching the film and I knew his move set because I was right there with him ringside for so many years. But you're right, it's a whole different Trick Williams. It's a whole different Carmelo Hayes. You know, Trick, Melo game may never come back, but the people get to see us together at least a couple more times. You know, maybe he gets a title shot, maybe not. Who knows? Let's find out.
Megan Morant
You know, Trick mellow game was forever for. For some of us who were watching close.
Sam Roberts
Oh, you should. I'm not. I'm going to blow up her spot right now. When Trick and Mello broke up in nxt, my phone went off immediately, and it was Megan Moran, and I mean, she was beside herself. I go, meghan, you work here Get a hold of yourself. But she was beside herself going, I can't believe it happened. It can't have happened. I can't believe it happened. And then she wrote this. It can't really be over.
Megan Morant
It can't.
Trick Williams
But you got to understand, Meg was right there when Trick Mellow Gang was born.
Megan Morant
That's right.
Trick Williams
A lot of people don't know we came in together. It was Trick, Carmelo Hayes, Bron Breaker, the Crees, and Megan. Megan was right there all along. So, you know, it hits her a little bit different.
Megan Morant
Yeah, it definitely. And I think there are some people who have that chemistry and you grow with them in that relationship. I think of, you know, great rivalries in wwe. Becky lynch and Charlotte Flair. There's something about them that they're all always be connected to one another. Do you feel that way with Carmelo Hayes?
Trick Williams
You know, it is. It is one of those alpha dog stories. You know what I mean? Like, how many times can grace really coexist? For a long time, we had Shaq and Kobe rest in peace. We have Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. You know what I mean? We had so many. We had outcasts. There's so many examples of, you know, just teams that were great together, but there's a time limit on that thing.
American Express Gold Advertiser
But who knows?
Trick Williams
Can Trick Mellow Gang be different? Are we just like everybody else? Who's the top dog in the situation? We gotta wait and see.
Sam Roberts
I mean that. But it is. It's a great point, but it's also a great point because I think those things separate because people, the sort of clarity of who is who in the relationship starts to go away. Right. Like, yeah, you could say, you know, outcast, Andre and Big Boy. But I can't tell you today which one's Andre 3000 and which one's Big Boy. Between you and Melo, I can't tell you anymore who's Jordan and who's Pippen. I can't tell you anymore who's Shaq and who's Kobe. And I think that that's the big difference. And when you look at that, when you look at you two right now, I think that Melo has found this place of slightly more maybe humility, in a good way, where he's become much more, I think, relatable to a lot of us. Whereas you have kind of skyrocketed up into the clouds somewhere.
Trick Williams
Come on now.
Sam Roberts
Which is really interesting to me because you start on television as a guy whose job it is to make the other guy look good. And when you separate, it's on you to go. Whatever power you are putting into Mellow, you have to put it all into yourself. Now, was it an easy transition to go from my job is to make this guy look like a million bucks to my job is to make me look like a million bucks?
Trick Williams
And it was so easy, I couldn't wait, you know, but you got to think about it, you know, being alongside him, though. He's getting the main events at all these different plays, you know, and it was my job to get on the microphone and say, report it to you live. The greatest North American champ alive, Carbello Hayes, finally arrived. Make sure that all the people are standing up. Make sure everybody's ready for him to come into the ring. And then in return, it was, Trick, I need for you to get behind me and stand to the left somewhere so I can get my shot all by myself. I'm like, come on, now. Like, that ain't how a partnership's supposed to work. You know what I mean? Like, I know I was new in the game and everything like that. I'm doing everything I can to make sure you look like a star. But can Trick really get a piece? Can I get a little piece of the piece? So once my big toe got through the door and I put my lemon pepper stepper on, and I was able to do my thing for Trent Willie and Trent Willie himself, you thought I couldn't wait, Sam, Come on, now. But, you know, it changes you. It changes you when you're able to get your own spotlight, man. Once you get your first taste of gold, once you eat your first piece of fried chicken, you know what I mean? Once you go to. What is it? John's on Bleecker street, and you taste that pizza right there, you want it again, and you want it again,
Sam Roberts
there it is. Do you feel like people in the wwe, and I don't mean the fans so much as the. As behind the scenes, I mean the powers that be. Do you feel like they understood Trick Williams from the beginning? Because I feel like Trick Williams is very specific to you. Do you feel like from the beginning they understood Trick Williams, or do you think that that was a learning process?
Trick Williams
You know, I've seen videos of Triple H himself saying, I have no idea what lemon pepper steppers are. And that's perfectly fine, you know what I mean? Because it's a special connection that I have with the people. And by the way, the lemon Pepper Steppers is just. It's that sauce, you know? I mean, you can Have a dried chicken wing or you can put that sauce on it. And what does that sauce do? It takes your chicken wing to the next level, and that's what these lemon pepper steppers do. It takes your swag to the next level. Everybody out there, if you want some lemon pepper steppers, holla at your boy. I can hook you up.
Sam Roberts
And you know what else it does? You know what else that. You know what else the lemon pepper does to the chicken wings that it does to your feet as well?
Trick Williams
What's that?
Sam Roberts
It gives them a kick.
Stitch Fix Advertiser
That's right.
Trick Williams
A little stank on it. A little stank on it.
Megan Morant
Save it, Sam.
Sam Roberts
Thank you. Thank you. I just thought of that. Thank you very much. Very, very proud of myself. Yeah, that's right. That's right.
Megan Morant
How long have you been saying lemon pepper steppers before you debuted it with the.
Trick Williams
You know, the funny thing is that was just a throwaway line. I'm not even sure what's in the script. Like, I just. Lemon pepper steppers is something that me and last day at the house is funny. Something that my granddad said about his shoes way back in the day. Like, I didn't know it was going to be a thing, you know, it's just lemon pepper steppers. That's just what it was. But everybody loves the lemon peppers, man.
Megan Morant
People love it.
Trick Williams
People love the lemon peppers. They do love the lemon peppers.
Sam Roberts
What is it like, as somebody who grew up a wrestling fan, like you said that you did two things. Number one, to step outside onto a WrestleMania stage and have 50,000 people chanting, Whoop that trick. And then to look into the audience and see small children wearing white fur coats. What is that like for you, man?
Trick Williams
It's unreal, man. Because the truth is in heart. Trick Williams stills, remember when he was a little kid, you know, like my guy right there standing on top of the shoulders right there. I remember when I was that size, watching what's Up My Dog. I remember when I was that size, you know, I mean, just. It was just a dream, you know what I mean? When I never met any WWE Superstars, even though I was playing football at the time, I didn't meet any NFL superstars and everything just seemed so far fetched. I didn't know if it was possible, you know what I mean? And it was just a dream, literally. So to be able to be, you know, a symbol, you know, I mean, of hope for anybody, for any young kids who want to be something like a WWE Superstar football player or just want to look good and Feel good about themselves, man. I love that because I wish there was someone like that, you know, back in the day when I was coming up, that was looking forward to and meeting in person. So. Yeah, man, I love the kids, Trick. Love the kids, man.
Sam Roberts
That's what I've heard.
Megan Morant
Yeah. Trick, you've had just, like, if you really sit down and think about it, the last year has been such an unbelievable journey for you. You know, coming up to the main roster, having a WrestleMania moment, becoming the United States Champion, getting married to the love of your life, Lash Legend. Have you had time at all to really sit back and process what you've been through this last year? Because it seems like everything just keeps on coming, man.
Trick Williams
It is not gonna stop no time soon. We got an album on the way. You know, Trick and Yachty's gonna be in the studio. Let's talk about it. Like, man, you gotta go, man. Like, shoot, man. They. They let me through the door. It's time to show everybody what I'm about, you know, Let everybody know that Trick Williams is here to stay and do something with the business and with this opportunity that's never been done before. That's my goal.
Sam Roberts
When you get those ideas of what that means, what it means to do things that haven't been done before, and that's. That's whether it's projects outside of wrestling or work inside of the ring or character work or whatever it is, who are those people that you're bouncing ideas off of? Who are the people that you talk to about about this?
Trick Williams
Yeah, man, definitely Booker T. You know, Booker T was always a staple in my growth, and I appreciate that, you know, but as of lately, man, Triple H is been very hands on, you know, Triple H, you know, I'm very grateful. I have a good relationship with him, especially Nick Khan, man. Nick Khan has some great ideas. You know, I can't really speak on it, but he knows what he's talking about.
Sam Roberts
That's amazing. I think that's what people wouldn't have expected.
Trick Williams
Nobody expected that Nick Khan is a genius.
Sam Roberts
That's awesome. Well, ladies and gentlemen, Trick Williams is the United States Champion.
Megan Morant
Yes, he is.
Sam Roberts
