I really hope you're not on your way to the airport right now as hundreds of flights are being canceled across the country this morning thanks to the Schumer shutdown. But New York City Mayor Alex Ohram Doni isn't letting the shutdown disrupt his travel plans. He's about to jet down to Puerto Rico next week for a very serious conference at a luxury resort. Must be nice. Must be nice. It also must be nice to be a federal worker in D.C. where you go on trial because you can be sure your Washington neighbors on the jury will always be on your side. Sure, this guy is getting off scot free, but that sandwich he threw at federal workers or actually ICE people will never get justice. That was a wasted sandwich. You're looking at the world's first actual trillionaire. Tesla shareholders overwhelmingly vote to approve Elon Musk's trillion dollar pay package. This just in. That's a lot of money. And now that Musk doesn't have to clip coupons anymore, Maybe he and SpaceX can afford to try to rescue some Chinese astronauts who are now stranded aboard their space station because their ride home was hit by space debris. Would China even take the help if we offered it? American Sunrise EARLY EDITION begins now.

Welcome to this no Tie Friday here on AMERICAN SUNRISE EARLY edition. And for many of you watching, it's also no flight Friday because hundreds of flights are being canceled today because the Democrats refused to end the government shutdown. And the FAA has to start cutting traffic at our major airports because there's just not enough air traffic controllers to deal with the traffic going in and out of those airports right now, the Democrats in their own words, extracting more pain from the American public. So I'm going to try to make it easier for all of you today with an informative, hopefully we'll have a little bit of fun show for you as well. Joining us right now is independent investigative journalist Walter Kurt. Walter, you and I, we tried before I get to your specific marching orders because you wrote a really good piece about what Republicans need to do next. But before I get to that, just how you doing? Because the two of us were working really hard first to get the American public to pay attention to specifically the Virginia election, but also the ones in New Jersey and some other places. You know, are you emboldened to continue or are you a little bit beat up after what happened?
Walter Kurt
Well, you know, Jake, obviously we worked really hard on this race and we tried to get people to pay attention to it. But I'll tell you right now, I'm not in. I wouldn't say I'm upset about it. I would say that I'm pretty angry about it, to be honest with you. Because, Jake, you know just as well as I do that you don't lose a race by double digits like that unless that it was a poorly managed. Every aspect of that campaign was poorly managed and there's no way that that was done correctly. That means that the party itself really, really dropped the ball and that they didn't run a ground game, they didn't do things properly, they didn't canvass properly. To me, it tells me that this was not done correctly at all and that the Democrats, the reason, the only reason they brought in Obama, because we were talking about this, we were saying, well, why is Obama there? What's he here there for? He's there for the reason he was there is because they wanted to get Jay Jones over it. That's why he was there, because they realize, oh, no, that they might lose the AG race. So they brought in the whole team. The whole Democrat Party showed up and it was, it's obvious to me that the campaigns run in Virginia were not done properly and that this was a huge blowout because we decided we, we didn't think it was that important apparently. And that's crazy to me. Yeah.
Jake Novak
All right, let's talk about what we do about it. You have a piece out on your own substack titled Republicans need to Wake up, because again, I introduced you correctly as independent investigative journalist, but you're also the guy behind the WC Dispatch. So what do they need to wake up and do right now, Walter, to make sure that things like Tuesday don't happen again, especially next year.
Walter Kurt
Well, the biggest thing they have to do is that we need to understand that a ground game is necessary. And this is, I've been talking about this past couple days now, that a ground game, I mean, if we don't wake up and smell the roses and realize that the Democrats, when they actually have these big giant rallies, that's how they're getting their base riled up. You know, I'm not expecting Republicans to be able to have the same match, the same kind of energy where they've got, you know, a bazillion people out in the streets. I'm not expecting that. That's not what I'm expecting. But we need to do something. I mean, I've, you know, my entire life been around Republican politics. I can't think of other than Donald Trump. I cannot think of a single person that has actually managed to do large scale rallies like he did, where there was lots of people, where there's community style events, where there's tons of people that show up and they can register voters and they can get people excited about it other than Donald Trump. No one does that. And if we can't win without Donald Trump on the ticket, we are screwed.
Jake Novak
Yeah, Walter, I don't want to fall into the trap of infighting because there's a lot of people pointing fingers about who's talking about what. But, you know, when it comes to this Tucker Carlson situation going on right now, this isn't rocket science. I mean, can we please stop thinking about who's doing the criticizing of Tucker Carlson just for a second? Let's just pretend I'm using a generic name here. Interviewing a guy who says Hitler was a cool guy, interviewing people who think that the United States should not have, should have joined in with Hitler in World War II is not helpful. You don't want that person on your team. Can we just stop trying to be too smart for ourselves and tie ourselves into pretzels? We know this isn't right. And as I've said here on the program, and I mean this seriously, and I'm not saying this to demonize mental illness. I, I've just seen it so many times in my life. The man is going through a mental breakdown. I don't know if he has friends or family members who care about him, but they should, and he absolutely is toxic right now for the Republican Party. And you were talking about how this just doesn't make any sense for us to be Wanting to align with somebody like this while we're involved in these important elections.
Walter Kurt
So the big thing that I've been telling everybody, and you know, Tucker, I don't pay any attention to these people anymore. But I'll tell you one thing that pissed me off about this. Why. Why did Tucker Carlson interview Nick Fuentes knowing the reaction that it would get? Of course he knew the reaction. He's not stupid. He knew what the reaction was going to be. Why'd he do it one week before the biggest election? So we. All these big elections. I mean it, you know, you knew.
Jake Novak
What the reaction would be.
Walter Kurt
You knew what would happen. It was one week ago. You know, if you, if you, even if you don't could want to criticize Tucker. Someone explain that to me. Why'd you drop the interview one week before the big election, before we had big elections? So the entire right wing started fighting with itself. Right before we go into this, there was no one talking about the elections. You know, I remember I put a post out and I was talking about this on. This is the Monday before the election. I had been out 19 hours trying to get the vote out in Virginia. I was down everywhere. And I come back and what are people talking about online? Absolutely nothing. You know, they're not talking about anything to do with the elections. They're not talking about anything to do with getting the vote out. They're screaming about Kevin Roberts, Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes. And I was like, my goodness, people, we are hopeless. We are not going to win if this is all we're going to talk about. And, you know, the problem being the reaction, both the reaction and the fact that he released the interview in the first place. You know, we could have waited a week, couldn't you waited seven business days to release your interview. You had to do it right then. Amazing to me. I mean, it drives me insane that this is a major talking point for people. We need to get away from this stuff.
Jake Novak
Yeah, he's not a well man. And for those of you who want to see a prototype for him, look up the name Ezra Pound, who was a very talented poet many, many, many decades ago. He ended up in St. Elizabeth's Mental Institution. And I honestly think this is not a well man. And if there are people out there who really care about him and love him, they'll get him some help. I don't know who they're going to get him. Get him for him, because a lot of the psychiatrists and psychologists out there are pretty sick these days. They all have Trump derangement syndrome, the ones I've met. But someone's got to help this guy, because he's not all there. All right, I got to get your take on the House Republicans, Walter, Again, one of the election results on Tuesday night was Zoran Mamdani winning the mayor's election in New York City. And the House Republicans are doing what? I think people who are opposed to this madman and other madman, Zoran Mamdani, I don't think that it would be out of bounds. I don't care what the New York Times is going to say about it or npr. I absolutely think there should be an effort to indict and deport him. Even if it doesn't end up working in the end, I think it's important for everyone to understand the crimes he's committed, the people he's associated with, and I'm all in favor of it. Am I crazy, speaking of mental illness, am I crazy, Walter, for really urging people to push for this, just to get the ball rolling in the right direction against what this guy would do to America's largest city?
Walter Kurt
No, I don't think so. I think we should deport all of these people, Every single one of these people that act like this. I mean, he's a communist. He's an Islamist. He knew during his opening speech, his victory speech, he thanked every country except America for the victory. You know, he didn't. He didn't thank America at all. He didn't stand up for. And say, you know, for all the Americans that, you know, that helped support me and whatnot. No, no, no. He said the Senegalese, the Nepalese cab drivers, the, you know, the Afghani, you know, falafel stands like. I mean, that's who he sees, his constituency, not Americans. So, you know, I don't think. See, I don't care about this guy at all. I think they should find any way they can to deport him. And we need to stop pretending as if we need to be nice about this sort of stuff. This guy, if he came here on legal immigration problems, if he came here illegally, he showed up when his citizenship was given to him on false terms. Get him out of here. I don't care what he is. I don't care what position he is, mayor or not. Fire him. Get him out.
Jake Novak
Hey, and there's a little bit of a precedent for this. Again, another person you can look up, James Traffic and who was an Ohio congressman. He spent some of his time in Congress, at the end in jail. I don't know if his toupee was put in another cell. That was another one of his crimes. He had the worst toupee in D.C. which is saying something. But look, folks, I mean, all joking aside, we've elected someone who associates with terrorists. They were also at his victory party. We have elected someone who lied on his citizenship application. We've elected someone who accepted foreign donations, which is illegal. I don't know how many times. I don't know how much more simple we need to get with this. Foreign countries and foreign citizens are not allowed to donate directly or actually and in any other way to American campaign. Do they do it? Have they been doing it for a while? Yes, but actually it's a relatively new thing because for so many decades, during our after the election laws were passed. After our campaign finance laws were passed, most of the enemies of the United States didn't have much of a cash flow. But because of Iranian money, because of Chinese money and the rise of those economies, either from oil like the Iranians have or China, with all the economic boom that they've been enjoying, they finally found a way to just get around all this. Enough money will get you around anything at the end of the day. Walter, I know you were talking about enthusiasm and ground game, but at the end of the day, is freedom in America just being outspent by our enemies? I wonder if that's really just the simple answer. It's about money at the end of the day.
Walter Kurt
Well, that is true. The amount of money that was in the first, like specifically going to the Virginia race, because that's where my focus was. The Virginia race was obviously outspent on a massive scale compared to win some Sears. Win some Sears ended up having about $34 million. Abigail Spanberger spent about $80 million. I mean, money is the lifeblood of politics. You have to be able to spend. But you know, someone was trying to argue to me that maybe this is the final push from the USAID money and that they're not going to have any left after this. I was like, I don't know. Their billionaires seem to be willing to fund all sorts of stuff. So I'm not entirely sure what if this is the last gasp, if this is all they've got left, but I don't think so. And someone, anybody who doesn't think that the problem here is really our turnout number here, because that's what you really have to look at. I mean, I've got the numbers pulled on the southern Virginia, you know, counties. The southern Virginia counties where we had a 40 to 50% turnout drop. That's why we lost. You know, you can't argue that. There's no in those people saying, I see some people talking about, oh, is it fraud? Like, no, guys, they didn't show up for Trump because Trump wasn't on the ballot. And you did message to them. So if you don't, if you don't figure out how to fix that problem, we're not going to win again. And that's why I say we need to have a ground game. We need to get a ground game up and running within the next six months. Needs to be there.
Jake Novak
And like I said, we tried our best. When did we start talking about that election? May, June. I mean, a lot of those people who didn't show up probably didn't even know about it. And that not through no fault of our own. We tried our best. Walter, Kurt, thanks for joining us. Have a restful weekend. This is probably your first restful weekend coming up in a long time. Thank you.
Walter Kurt
That's right. Thanks, Jake. Thanks for having me on.
Jake Novak
All right. Also coming up, there's one Wall street firm that's telling its workers to stay home today. And no, it's not to get a jump on the Veterans Day sales. I will explain. Also, some Chinese astronauts are stranded on their space station right now. Should the Trump team offer to help, but for a price, let's weigh some options about what we can ask from them. American Sunrise, early edition. We'll be right back.

Good morning. That's Lady Liberty. I think we are looking at Lady Liberty from this vantage point of Bayonne, New Jersey. Bayonne is my city of hard knocks, folks. One Day. I'll tell you the story. But anyway, beautiful, beautiful Statue of Liberty shot this morning. At least we have beautiful mornings here in New York, even though we have terrible leadership. Welcome back to American Sunrise early edition. It's a no tie Friday special. Welcome to those of you already up and commenting on the Getter Chat, the Rumble chats X and Substack, all those places. Hey, speaking of New York, Apollo Capital Management, that's one of those fancy private equity firms in New York. They don't need to. If you work there, you don't need to go to work today. That's because there's gonna be a massive protest. They're angry. The protesters are because the CEO of Apollo, his name is Mark Rowan, has publicly supported President Trump's clampdown on woke politics at university campuses. Hey, Emily. Finn. This is probably gonna be, I think, par for the course in Mamdani's New York. It reminds me of Occupy Wall Street. You better believe he'll probably be joining the protest. I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up.
Emily Finn
I wouldn't be surprised either. You know, it's really not a good sign that right after you get elected you're empowering the in your city to rise up and protest. I have. I'm very concerned for New York moving forward. I don't think that this is a good sign. And let's also remember that this is not the people protesting Mamdani, protesting the literal communism that is coming to that city. It's people that are still protesting President Trump. It's absolute insanity. Jake.
Jake Novak
Yeah. The good news is I was open an avocado toast stand right outside that protest because all those kids who are basically probably paid protesters have never had like an actual real breakfast. I don't think they're going for the sausage, egg and cheese sandwich. So let's, let's make some money on that. All right? Now, speaking of making money and taking advantage of a situation, Emily, this is an interesting thing that developed yesterday. There are some Chinese astronauts who are now stranded on their Chinese space station because a bunch of space debris damaged their return capsule home. I've got an idea. I think, first of all, I think President Trump should comment about this immediately. Just basically say, our hearts, you know, our prayers are with them. We want to help them. Do they want us to go pick them up? Do they need a lift? I think that this is a. Something we should take political advantage of and offer them a free ride home maybe in return for all the stolen technology on that space station. It's all our technology that they steal, they don't innovate in China, they just steal. They work very hard, but they don't innovate. Maybe we could ask them while we're there, can you give us all the stuff you ripped us off from? I mean, something like that. What do you think, Jake?
Emily Finn
I think that's a fantastic idea. I think I'm going to going to nominate you to be the head of Space Force at this point. Because seriously, space is the one thing that we should all on Earth be unified over. We have no idea what's out there. And if these astronauts are having a hard time getting home, yes, I think that's a fantastic idea to try to help out. And it could bring some, some peace and bring some ties between the US and China as well. Space exploration is something that is going to be the future. Elon Musk has been very vocal about this as well. So I think that unity on Earth is definitely needed.
Jake Novak
Yeah, I think. But you know, I wonder if Xi Jinping is getting on the phone with the astronauts and saying, don't take any rhymes from strangers. And if someone says that I told you to go pick you up. We have a family safe word, you know, it's cocker spaniel.
iHeart Radio Announcer
I don't know. Absolutely.
Jake Novak
Don't get into cars with strangers, guys. That's what's going on.
iHeart Radio Announcer
All right, Emily, don't get into any spacecrafts.
Jake Novak
That's right. Don't go into cars with boys. All right, anyway, that's the cool thing there. Thank you so much, Emily. We'll see you in the next hour in American Sunrise. And I'm going to give you a preemptive good weekend. Thank you.
Emily Finn
Thank you, Jake.
Jake Novak
All right, let me be blunt. Don't get into spacecrafts with strangers. No, let me also be blunt about gold. Gold is up around 40% this year. That's not speculation, that's reality. And if a portion of your savings isn't diversified into gold, you're missing the boat. Here are the facts. Inflation is still too high, the US dollar is still too weak and the government debt is insurmountable. This is why central banks are flying flocking to gold. They're the ones driving prices up to record highs. But it's not too late to buy gold from Birch Gold Group and get in the door. Now, Birch Gold will help you convert an existing IRA or 401k into a tax sheltered IRA. In gold, you don't pay a dime out of pocket. Just text America to 98, 98, 98 and claim your free info kit. There's no obligation, just useful information. The best indicator of the future is the past. And gold has historically been a safe haven for millennia. What else can say that? Nothing. Text America to 98.9898 right now to claim your free info kit on gold. That's America. Three times to 98. 98. 9898 three times. Protect your future today with Birch gold. Coming up, Elon Musk can finally buy himself some decent clothes and move out of his mom's basement. That one trillion dollar pay package has been approved. I'll have that story and the rest of Moving America when American Sunrise Early Edition comes right back.

Foreign look at Bar Harbor, Maine, here on American Sunrise Early Edition. I used to live in Maine. It's beautiful there. I lived there in 1994 and 95 and I have to say it took me about six weeks to understand what the heck the people were saying there. When I say Bar Harbor, I should say Bar Harbor. I mean, the New England accent up.
Walter Kurt
There is really, really thick.
Jake Novak
But eventually, actually I was able to understand what they said. I could have used Google Translate better than the Google didn't exist. All right, let's take a look at the markets right now because we've got. There we go. We have a, a slightly lower open. We had a sell off yesterday, by the way. There is going to be a very concerted effort it's already starting by the mainstream media and their Democrat allies to talk down the economy and they're going to be pointing to the stock market losses of the last couple days as evidence of that. That's not the case. What's going on in the markets right now is buyers remorse about all the AI spending. This happened in April. This is the reason why the markets went down in April. And I don't know if it will be another buying opportunity like it was then, but if you bought at those lows in April, you made a ton of cash. This is about AI. It's not about the other economic challenges in our economy. We do have them. I'm not saying the economy is perfect. Anyone who says it's perfect or all terrible is a liar or a dope. But this market sell off this last couple of days, and it's not really even a sell off, it's just a slight, a couple of days of a downward trend is because of AI and AI buyers remorse. Just remember that when you see that all over the news the next few days about how the economy is tanking, it's not true. All right. Joining us now is Artillery Tea Company co founder Mike Britton. He is a frequent guest on this program because he makes a great product and has a great story behind it. For those of you who haven't been paying attention, if you tune out when I talk about Artillery Tea every day, this is your comeuppance. We're going to get you all up to date. Mike, why should someone choose Artillery Tea over any other tea? Get these people who've been watching my show and haven't been listening into the right frame of mind, please.
Mike Britton
Yeah. Thanks, Jake. So our product is different in a few ways. First of all, the stuff you get at the store is made of something called tea. Dust is literally the worst grade of tea you can get. They take the leaves, they process them into black or green tea and then they, they put them through kind of more of a conveyor belt system. Literally the stuff that falls through the cracks, the little dust particles that falls through the cracks is what they sweep up and put into the tea bags in the grocery store. The other thing they do is they use tea bags that are made out of bleach paper, something called echo, which is a chemical used in insect fumigation as well. And they use glue, pl. Lots of plastic. Billions of micro. Microplastics get into your drink when you drink grocery store tea. Ours is different. Ours is the whole leaf. So we don't do the dust at all. We do, we do the whole leaves that are, you know, fresh, freshly picked, freshly processed into green tea or black tea, which is just a process of oxidation. And then our tea bags are also completely chemical free. So they're made out of a cornstarch material and they're all plant based and biodegradable. So we don't use any glue or, or bleach or plastic or any of that nasty stuff.
Jake Novak
Mike, I have this. You know, there was a sketch on SNL about 35 years ago, maybe longer, where a man dies and St. Peter explains, answers all of his questions. And one of the questions is, what's the most disgusting thing I ever ate or drank? And St. Peter says, I can't. Even though you're dead, I can't even tell you. I think he just gave, I think he just gave some of the like, oh my God, I don't even want to know. All right, Grocery store.
Mike Britton
That's what it is.
Jake Novak
Yeah, that might be that it might have been what it was. He also asks, you know, who were some of the people who secretly liked me in my class. And like St. Peter mentions a couple of girls and he's like, oh, oh well, anyway, what are you hoping to accomplish this year with assisting veterans in your. Because I know that's a big part of your business.
Walter Kurt
Yeah.
Mike Britton
Another thing that sets us apart from regular tea companies, Jake, is that we partner with veteran and first responder non profits. This year we're partnering with a group called Working Dogs for Vets. They provide service animals to disabled veterans. And there's a lot of cost that goes into the training, the sourcing of the dogs and then the training of the animals. And we're hoping to sponsor a whole animal this year which would be like from acquiring it all the way through final training and delivery to a veteran. And so we're looking like we're on track to do that by the end of the year. And so we're excited to do that and excited to do more too.
Jake Novak
Are you going to be following that whole like training process and maybe getting some pictures with. I mean, I think it'll be like great, I hope, you know, because I want to show that video or the pictures you get of that whole process.
Mike Britton
Yeah, for sure. That was, that was part of like what we talked about with them is that the dog that we sponsor, we're going to get pictures of it, we're going to know who it goes to and what that person's background is and what the background of the dog is too. So looking forward to sharing that with the show.
Jake Novak
All right. So you know, I'm always into trying to save my viewers money. Is there anything new in any new promotions coming up for Artillery Tea?
Mike Britton
Yeah, so gift giving season is coming up. So something that we Launched is called the Precision Brewing Starter Kit. Something unique about doing whole leaf tea is that it brews a little bit differently and that especially differently than coffee. So green tea brews at like a different temperature than black tea and the steeping times are different and that sort of thing. So we put together this kit that'll give you a thermometer and brewing instructions and especially how to get two cups of tea out of one tea bag. So since we use the whole leaves, the leaves will go further than the tea dust. Well, and so we got a whole kit that'll give you the guide. It's kind of like the, the whole everything you need to get started brewing right away. We did put that together for gift giving season as well. And then just last night, Jake, we launched a new subscriptions program called the Patriots Brew Club. And so before we just offered his subscribe and save 10% on your order. And now we're doing the Patriots Brew Club, which will be free shipping on all orders. We're gonna have milestone rewards, free rewards as you go from, you know, custom stickers to, to free mugs to free T shirts and all sorts of things like that. And then also tiered discounts. If you add more than one item, you get, you know, 10 off, 15 off, 20 off. So we're doing the whole. We've revamped our whole subscriptions program. We think it's a much better setup.
Jake Novak
All right, Mike Britton, that sounds really exciting. It's definitely a great gift idea. You can call it Christmas season. It started. I already heard them. Even my gym is playing Christmas music now. So I think it's totally okay to say that. Mike Britton from artilleryte.co.com RAB is where you can get all the other information. Thank you so much for joining us. Have a great weekend.
Mike Britton
Thanks, Jake.
Jake Novak
Okay, ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. Hey, Moving America, which coincidentally is sponsored by Artillery T Company. Again, thank you so much for doing that every morning. Well, I was wrong. Elon Musk did get his $1 trillion pay package approved, and it wasn't really close. I was getting a little bit worried about it. I didn't completely predict he wouldn't get it, but after that Norwegian sovereign wealth fund said no, I thought to myself, oh, people are going to start piggybacking on this. According to Tesla, 75% of the shareholders voted yes on giving him that 1 trillion dollar pay package. As I've said on this program a number of times before, Elon Musk has made a lot more than a trillion dollars For Tesla shareholders over the years, especially over the last 10 years or so, you could make the argument he deserves every single penny. I know that Tesla's board really wanted him to get this because they were worried he would leave. Tesla's making a comeback. They're trying to make a comeback from all that political fire that they took last year and going into this year. Let's see if that happens. But not all CEOs have it made in America, even in the auto industry. CarMax fired its CEO yesterday. Now that's a used car retailer. As you know online and in some other places. They announced a weaker outlook for the current Christmas season quarter. They're not looking at good numbers so far for these last few months of the year. So they officially said their CEO, Bill Nash was stepping down. But you know he's fired. That's what everyone in the auto industry knows, he's been fired. It's a tough world out there for used cars and CarMax is not cutting it. Here's a surprise that's not a surprise. It's not a surprise at all. Especially been watching this program. Ford is reportedly considering pulling the plug entirely on the all electric Ford Q50 Lightning truck. Ford has racked up, get this, $13 billion in losses on EVs since 2023. Again, EVs do have a place even in the American marketplace. I say at the Most it's a 10% market share, which isn't bad. That's a pretty big change from years ago when it was zero percent. But I don't think that EVs have a place in the world of big SUVs and trucks, especially the Ford F150. This was something that Ford did to placate the swamp, to placate the Biden administration, to show them that they're really forward thinking and they've taken a bath on it and now they might kill it. I think they will. That's a report in the Wall Street Journal saying that that is what they're talking about in Dearborn these days. Okay, now for a horror movie preview from Britain. It's not a real horror movie, but it's worse than that. It's reality. Speaking of EVs, the UK's labor government is looking at the equivalent of what would be a 4 cent per mile tax on your EV. So if you're an EV owner, they're going to look at your odometer and charge you 3 pence, which is 4 cents American money for every mile. For the average dryer driver in Great Britain. This would be about another $320 a year that they have to pay in taxes. This is because EVs don't go to the gas station and pay that gas tax. It's also because EVs are much heavier than regular cars and they do more damage to the roads. The cost of EVs is never honestly presented to the public. It isn't just about saving some money at the gas station. You also lose money when they start to tax you. And you better believe the blue states, at least in this country, are thinking about doing the same thing as Great Britain. Okay, coming up, are failures in the classroom the reason why we're getting failing election results like we saw in New York City? I'll talk to someone pushing hard in just a moment for more and better civics classes from high school through college when American Sunrise EARLY EDITION comes right back.

It's Friday, November 7th. Here are this morning's top stories. I really hope you're not on your way to an airport or at an airport. Right. Hundreds of flights are being canceled across this country thanks to the Schumer shutdown. This is the pain they want to extract from us. Hey, but it must be nice on the other hand, to be a federal worker in D.C. when you go on trial for attacking ICE agents because you can be sure your D.C. neighbors on the jury will always be on your side. Sure, this guy is getting off scot free, but that sandwich he threw away will never get justice. I hate wasted food. All right, you're looking at the world's first actual trillionaire. This morning, Tesla shareholders overwhelmingly voting to approve Elon Musk's trillion dollar pay package this just in. That's a lot of money. And now that Musk doesn't have to clip coupons anymore, Maybe he and SpaceX can afford to try to rescue some Chinese astronauts who are now stranded aboard their space station. Their ride home was hit by space debris. Hey, I think China should take our offer to help, but we better extract a big price from them. Let's see if we can shake them down a little bit. They do it to us. American Sunrise Early Edition continues. Now, I mean, what would the Uber charges be for the million miles or so from outer space back to Beijing? I mean, I think we can really think about some serious charges here. And, you know, we'll get that, we'll get them a good Uber driver. I think that we can really think about this. We, we should extract some price. But they're using our technology that they sell anyway, so we might as well help them out right now. But again, exact a big price. Okay. Welcome back to American Sunrise Early Edition. It's a no tie Friday. And let's get to something serious right now because I think some of the things we talked about this week were the results of problems in our education system. What else is new? Joining us Right now is Dr. Jenna Robinson. She is the president of the James G. Martin center for Academic Renewal. I've been focusing a lot on education this week that a few guests about this and the Martin center has a new study out comparing civics education in all 50 states. Dr. Robinson, this is something that I think most Americans have known for a long time that civics education is really weak. I wonder if we talk to people who voted. And I wonder if you guys are ever thinking about doing some exit polling and asking them certain questions like who was the last person to hold this office? What are the responsibilities of this office? I almost cringe. Remember that old Jay Leno jaywalking thing where he would ask people stuff and they didn't have a clue in the world about what was going on? I have a bad feeling that this would be bad if you guys did exit polls.
iHeart Radio Announcer
Yeah. In fact, we don't need to do exit polls because we know that voters in general are just very uninformed about civics, about how American government works, about why we have some of the laws we have. So if you ask them about the three branches of government or who sits on the Supreme Court, or what is the purpose of the Electoral College, you will get blank stares. I think famously, one poll included as a, as an option on the, on the multiple choice. Who is on the Supreme Court, they included Judge Judy as an option, and some voters and American citizens thought that she was on the court. So we know that civic knowledge is much, much lower than it should be in a republic like ours.
Jake Novak
Now you're focusing on trying to get it improved in individual states. I think you said something like only 14 states are really kind of doing this right, or maybe at least on the right track. Is that correct?
iHeart Radio Announcer
Right.
So only 14 states require all undergraduates at public universities to take a civics course. The news is a little bit better for high school that there. That requirements exist, but I'm not convinced that the content in those courses is what it should be.
Jake Novak
Okay. You know, I think a lot of this has to do also, not just about what's going on in the classroom, but the general culture around us. There isn't as much talk about our civics basics in this country. So, Dr. Robinson, I want to play a clip for you of a very famous cartoon. You'll know it when you see it. And then I want to talk to you about it on the other side. Check it out.
Mike Britton
I'm just a bill.
Jake Novak
Yes, I'm only a bill. And I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill. Well, it's a long, long journey to the Capitol city. It's a long, long wait while I'm sitting in committee. But I know I'll be a law someday. At least I hope and pray that. That I will. But today I am still just a bill. All right, that's the old Schoolhouse Rock thing, telling teaching kids about how bills become a law. Honestly, I don't think that this is something that most kids know today. I don't care if they learned it from watching Saturday morning cartoons, but I don't think kids even do that anymore. They watch stuff on their phones. It's also the general culture around us. Right. It's not just classroom stuff.
iHeart Radio Announcer
Absolutely. I think. And there's a lack of public trust that probably makes them less interested in learning on how things work in Washington because their general impression is probably that things don't work in Washington, and so why should they bother figuring it out? And I have some sympathy with that. But I think ultimately we have to get to a place where we have better civic knowledge before we have. Before we start encouraging civic engagement. Knowledge first, then engagement. And I think right now, a lot of our classrooms have it backwards. They. They tell students to go get engaged, but they don't tell students to actually find out how our system works.
Jake Novak
Now that, to me, is. Is an incredible pearl of wisdom. That you just shared with us. You know, we're talking on this program many times about teachers who are sending kids out. This is especially at the college level, but even at the high school level, sending kids out to protest, encouraging them to protest without really asking them questions. And it reminds me of what a number of people told me who lived during the Vietnam era in this country. And when those protests started to get really pervasive, a number of them told me that they were seniors in high school or they were freshmen in college and they had a teacher or they had a professor who asked them very Socratic method type questions about why they were protesting, what they thought specifically was wrong.
Mike Britton
And.
Jake Novak
And when he showed them through that process or these teachers showed them through that process, I know there were female teachers who did it too, that they really didn't know all the things out there, that they maybe couldn't even find Vietnam on a map, that they didn't really understand what the policy was. They thought twice about it, and it may have started. And I don't know if our teachers are doing that right now.
iHeart Radio Announcer
We do have something called action civics that is being promoted in a lot of our schools, which is it focusing on engagement rather than core knowledge. And so students are encouraged to become part of the process before they understand the process. So it is a problem that we're facing right now. I don't know if it's the same extent that went on during the Vietnam War, but we do need to change the way we teach physics. Because I think the most interesting thing we found when we did this 50 state comparison is that almost all our states are teaching civics to high school students, which means that all high school graduates should have a baseline of knowledge, and yet we know that they don't. So something is going wrong in those classrooms. Students are either not learning or not retaining the information they need to be responsible citizens and responsible voters.
Jake Novak
You know, it might just be a question of creating an advanced placement test, an AP test that just focuses on the structure of our civics in this country, simple as that. It might be for the students who decide to really learn it. It might be an easy five, and maybe they can get credit in college for it. That might be one way to do it. Maybe a carrot and a stick in that way. Dr. Jenner Robinson, you're much young. I think you're a significantly younger person than I am because I know you're really focusing a lot on the 250th anniversary of the United States next year. It's going to be a lot of celebrations, a lot of, you know, basically observances of it. The reason why I note that I think you're significantly younger than I am is because I very much remember the bicentennial celebrations in this country in 1976. And they went beyond a few weeks. They went beyond just parties and fireworks. I can tell you that it was incredibly pervasive across this country. Everything was bicentennial. It was something that you saw on TV and in the movies. It was all over the corporate and the commercial world, the stores that you went in. And it was a lot of information. I mean, a lot of us got almost by osmosis, an incredible education in the history of this country. I know President Trump wants to make a big deal out of the 250th, and I think he will. And I think there will be some great celebrations. But even at this point, I can tell you we're way behind what they did in 1976 in this country to really, really hammer home those, these lessons. So what are you trying to do to kickstart that for next year?
iHeart Radio Announcer
So we're going to do a couple things on the 250th. One thing, of course, is releasing this report and getting into the hands of, you know, state legislatures and encouraging them to have undergraduates take a civics course. I think that would be a great thing to be able to say at the end of next year, is that we move the needle and that more students are taking civics in college and taking high quality civics courses in college. I think that would be an amazing win for our semi quincentennial. But the Martin center is also kicking off a contest for the best intellectual contributions that made America what it is. We're looking at things like documents like the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, but also works of art and scientific contributions and poetry and literature. And so we're very excited about that so far. We are already. We've already launched the contest and we've seen speeches and ideas go head to head. I'm betting that the Declaration of Independence is going to win, but we're excited about that opportunity for anybody who comes to our website to vote on what was the most important intellectual contribution to our nation's founding.
Jake Novak
All right. And I also think there should be essay contests. I have a topic that I'd like to put in for an essay contest. Tell ask, when did the United States switch from indirect election of senators from the state legislatures appointing them to direct election? Why did they do it? And has it been a net positive or net negative? And you have 300 words. That's going to be my assignment. All right. Dr. Jenna Robinson, thank you. That's a good one, right? That's a good one. I think it was a disaster. By the way, we have senators now who just go on TV and they don't do anything. When they had to answer to the legislature, they did more for the country. But again, that's my opinion. Jenna Robinson, thank you so much for joining us. Dr. Jenna Robinson from the Martin center, thank you for the work that you're doing. Good luck with it. And be, be in touch if you need any more help on any of the individual projects you're going to do, especially next year. Thank you so much.
iHeart Radio Announcer
Thank you.
Jake Novak
All right. Have a great weekend. Coming up, why this is an important question to ask. Why has the number of falsehoods, psyops and just plain BS risen in America at the same time that our ability to find facts at our fingertips has also gone up? Why are the lies going up, too? David Brody and I will tackle that when American Sunrise Early EDITION comes right back.

Welcome back to America's Sunrest Edition, a live look at our nation's capital. Going to talk a lot about in the next few couple of hours, the continuing shutdown and the massive pain that the Democrats are now inflicting on America. I hope you're not going to an airport this weekend or had a vacation planned. A lot of flights canceled. It's, it's really bad at the security lines. The Democrats, in their own words, I am quoting them, say they need to extract more pain from Americans. It's just Incredible that this continues. The reason for it, a lot of big reason for it, the mainstream media, they did an analysis yesterday, about 90% of the mainstream media coverage of the shutdown blames the Republicans, even though it's the Democrats who voted for it and have voted to continue it 14 times. This is what happens when you get lies in the news media. Speaking of lies, I noticed something earlier this week and I didn't just think about it and I didn't just post about it. I wanted all of you folks to test me on this thought of mine. I posted this. I said that, you know, the great paradox in the Western world right now is that even as technology makes it possible for us to get all the facts verified in just a moment, just have to go on my phone and I can get facts, no problem. At the same time, the number of falsehoods in our society is growing exponentially. So why is that? Why is it when we have the facts at our fingertips, we're going and seeing more lies than ever all over the place? This is a variation on the other joke about how we have all of human knowledge in the world and at our fingertips on a phone right now and all we ever do is look at cat videos on the Internet. David Brody breaking in here. I want to bring this in. I think you might agree with my first premise. I wonder if you agree with one of my reasons for this. Here's my reason. I think that some of the lies and conspiracy theories and other nonsense that used to only be spread in quiet shadows on bathroom walls or in private is now being spread on the very same platforms where we get rfax. In other words, the same social media platform or website where I find out whether there's a tornado warning, which I believe, whether I find out what the stock prices are when I find out what the sports scores are. Also is the platform where you see the lies being spread. And I'm not saying we should get rid of free speech here. I'm just saying I think this is a case of all of a sudden it's all in the same room when it wasn't before. That's my explanation for it.
David Brody
Yeah. And let me just pile. Not pile on. Let me pile on you this morning. No, just kidding. Let me continue on and just simply say two words, algorithms. And I guess this is two other words, echo chambers. When you're in an echo chamber and you have an algorithm that is feeding you what you want to hear, and then other people are saying the exact same thing, well, then guess what? It's true. Oh, wait, no, maybe it's not. But if you think when you leave the online atmosphere to say, well, everybody's saying it, it's gotta be true. Everybody. Exactly. Who is everybody? Oh, everybody in your liberal sphere. Everybody in your, let's be honest, conservative sphere. Everybody in your crazy, far, far anarchist right. Hello, Nick Fuentes, good morning to you. Sphere. Look, that's the type of stuff we're talking about here. And so I think that's a big part of it also, let's be honest and let's call her out right now. Candace Owens and her citizen journalism. I mean, this is the type of stuff that we're seeing, right? We talk about how it's great you got an iPhone and now you're a citizen journalist. Okay, timeout on citizen journalism. I think it's great that you're documenting things that are actually happening in real time. But there's a far cry between that and actually Candace Owens saying, look, I'm getting some tips and some tips that people are telling me, yeah, I'm sorry, Candace, could you reveal your sources? I'm sorry, who is it exactly? A 24 year old in her basement who just got done watching Star the Wrath of Khan. I mean, who exactly is your tip here coming from? You know what I'm saying, Jake? I mean, so, so this is the type of stuff that we really got to monitor. And shame on Candace Owens and all of those folks that throw all of that stuff out. And that's right, I'm calling out, quote, conservatives, because we don't need those types of folks that are doing real damage to any credibility that we have. And we've got a lot of credibility, but don't tread on our credibility, Candace Owens. Give me a break.
Jake Novak
And you also had a shout out to Star the Wrath of Khan with the great line, God created the world in six days, but look out, here comes Genesis. He'll do it for you in six minutes. That's a great. All right, we got a lot more for you forever.
David Brody
And I'm going to an airport, by the way, in two hours.
Jake Novak
Oh, no. Poor David. All right, well, anyway, stay around for American Sunrise. The big show, early edition comes back Monday. See you then.
Walter Kurt
You know what your customers are doing right this second?
Jake Novak
The exact same thing.
Walter Kurt
You are listening to me, which, let's be honest, is kind of flattering. But my point Is, ads on iHeartRadio actually get heard in the car, at the gym, on the couch, while people are walking their dogs. Who's a good boy? Who's a good boy.
David Brody
You're a good boy.

That's right, dude. You're a good.

This episode of American Sunrise Early Edition provides a sharp, sometimes satirical, and highly opinionated view of American politics and society as seen through the lens of Real America’s Voice. The sweeping discussions link the personal (tea, space travel) with the political (shutdown, elections) and philosophical (civic engagement, truth in media), all tied together by a call for more effective action from conservatives and a renewed commitment to American civic knowledge and values.
