This is an iHeart podcast ahead. And ahead on American Sunrise EARLY Edition, it's day three of the Democrats government shutdown. And suddenly the Democrats and their media foot soldiers are starting to realize they've made a terrible mistake. The White House is serious about using the shutdown to permanently erase thousands of federal jobs. And and the plans are all ready. And the shutdown is also a big opportunity for the Trump team's top budget cutter to swing that axe. His name is Ken Vought and he's suddenly one of the most feared men in America. Fear of a different kind has been gripping Christians and Jews in the UK Ever since their prime minister, Keir Starmer recognized the non existent Palestine state and rewarding terrorism. And then it happened. An attack on a synagogue on Yom Kippur morning yesterday, killing two worshippers and wounding many others. Back here at home, President Trump tells Congress the US Is formally at war with foreign drug cartels. Of course, the cartels have known that for a couple of weeks now, ever since some of their drug boats got blasted out of the water. It's also a war on illegal immigration. And the left poster boy in that fight got some bad news yesterday. Just don't call him Maryland man anymore. American Sunrise EARLY EDITION begins now. Welcome to American Sunrise EARLY edition, the show where faith, freedom and the values that built this nation take center stage. Your good deeds and bad deeds, that's how we're gonna judge you. Join host Jake Novak as he breaks down the stories that matter. We will be letting the public know regularly what we have found. American Sunrise EARLY EDITION with your host Jake Novak starts now. Welcome to a no tie Friday here in American Sunrise EARLY edition. Glad to be back with you and thanks to Emily Finn for filling in for me yesterday. We have a jam packed day as usual. And for those of you who are watching on Getter and Rumble or on X or Substack, do me a favor, count the number of stories we get in in this hour and then compare it to any of the mainstream channels or Fox or any. I'm telling you, we're going to beat him 10 to 1. We get a lot of stories in here because it's your morning and you need to know what's going on to head into your day. All right. Joining us now is American Sunrise legal and political contributor Dr. James Nuzzo. Jim, the Democrats, it's day three now of their shutdown. Remember, the Trump administration was fine with keeping things as they were. The continuing resolution, the whole thing. The Democrats deliberately decided they wanted the shutdown. They Own it. And they're starting to see it backfiring a lot because, among other things, first of all, the polls aren't great for them. Second of all, the Trump administration is going to use these, this shutdown to identify more jobs that we can live without forever, and they're going to cut them for good. And you know, federal workers, Jim, that's their, that's a base of the Democrat Party in a big way. They're hurting their own base.
Dr. James Nuzzo
You know, the. I use this, and I'm not the first person to use this analogy. For those of us who are old enough to remember the cartoon characters in Peanuts by Charles Schulz, which, by the way, premiered yesterday decades ago, yesterday was the first cartoon. There was a character named Lucy who used to always hold the football that Charlie Brown was going to kick. Charlie Brown would say to Lucy, I'm not going to go and kick the ball. You're just going to pull it away and I'm going to lay out, fly, flop, go flat on my back. And Lucy says, oh, no, I won't. And guess what happens? Charlie Brown lies flat on his back as Lucy laughs at him. And all I can think of is that the Democratic Party is a party of Lucy's. All they're doing is giving opportunities for Trump to pull the ball away from them and make them look silly and stupid. Charles Schumer had the audacity to say that the poll that was in the New York Times, which blamed the Democrats and the fact that the American public does not want the shutdown as a, quote, bad poll that should be rejected. It was so silly that in the chamber, the senators laughed out loud at him. That's how ridiculous they've become. Look, this is a unbelievable self goal, as they say in soccer. They kicked it into their own net. They gave President Trump a point, not because President Trump even deserved to get the point. They just sort of sat there and the Democrats said, oh, here, let me go and do something stupid again. But we've been seeing this again and again this, this year. It is very clear that Schumer is thinking about one on one person alone. And that's aoc, who is already threatening and is moving towards primary him next year. And so therefore he can't. He's caught. He does what is correct for himself and for his caucus. And you're right there. Right now they've identified five Democrats who, including two from New Hampshire who are, have basically said, we're willing to sort of compromise with the Republicans and vote for the, for that Clean cr. If that happens, then Schumer's tenure as being majority leader is over. And probably with that, his tenure being a senator will soon be over because AOC will take him out.
Jake Novak
Yeah. You know, the issue, of course, is that the Democrats want to keep this higher level of COVID funding for health care for illegal immigrants. And, Jim, the Democrats aren't fooling anyone when they say, no, it's not about that. They've got to be very, very upset about what happened in an interview between Jake Tapper and Hakeem Jeffries. Check this out.
Jake Tapper
But they talk about the provisions, and it's right here, subtitle E. And this has to do with the repeal of health care, subtitle changes. And specifically, what it is, how they characterize it, is you want to give health insurance to undocumented immigrants. I understand that's not really an accurate depiction, but what it does do is that's a lie. It's a lie. But what you support does bring back funding for emergency Medicaid to hospitals, some of which does pay for undocumented immigrants and people who don't have health insurance. And also there is this provision, and it's not about undocumented immigrants. It's about people with asylum seekers and people with temporary protected status, et cetera, et cetera, but about their ability to get Medicaid. So they're non citizens, they're not undocumented, they're not illegal. Why even include that in a bill knowing that they're going to seize right upon that and use that to message?
Jake Novak
All right, Jake Tapper is turning himself into a pretzel there, but he's basically saying, yeah, you are. You are putting out money there that's going to go to illegal aliens. He tried to play the games with the whole wording, but, boy, the DNC has got to be really worried that Jake Tapper, in a live interview with Jeffries, is challenging him on that Jake.
Dr. James Nuzzo
Chopper later in the interview actually played tape back to Jeffries showing that Jeffries had lied in the interview. So they called it making certain that everyone legal or unlegal or however term they particularly used, would get health care. So the problem with doing things in the electronic age and with the ability to retrieve in an instant is that if you've gone and said something, your opponents go, or even the pressure can go and sort of pull it out. And Jake Chapper and the other Democrats who have gone and said this is not what the case happens to be, are having their words thrown back at their own words thrown back at them.
Jake Novak
Yeah, I mean it's, they've had the ability, that age of technology, it just took the will and the CNNs and MSNBCs and the Broadcast networks have no will to do this until I guess now something's triggered them.
Dr. James Nuzzo
All right, Jim, also, just quickly, there was also a lovebird spat in one of your competitors in early morning when the unctuous couple on MSNBC who normally sort of speak with one voice actually had a no you didn't. Yes you did. No you didn't sort of argument on the air over this particular issue. Even if MSNBC can't get its own sort of line straight, then everyone in the Democratic Party ought to be pretty nervous.
Jake Novak
Yeah, Joe and Minka fighting. There's really less than half a brain between them. So I'm surprised they don't fight more about things like how to spell cat. Jim, more serious situation right now. Late last month, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer recognized the non existent cuz there is no state of Palestine. He recognized it and a lot of us immediately said this is rewarding terror. What are you recognizing them now for? For what reason? After they committed the most horrific act of terrorism it probably in the history of the world. Are you kidding me? And yet he did that and we said that this would encourage it. And sure enough, yesterday in Manchester, an Islamist terrorist tried to blow up and do a lot more damage to a synagogue in Manchester on the holiest day of the Jewish year, Yom Kippur, killed two people. He's down. He's also been killed. This is really, I don't understand how any Jewish house of worship now, especially in countries like this isn't more protected. And if you can't get that protection, get out. Because history tells us this isn't going to end well.
Dr. James Nuzzo
Well let's name exactly what's going on. One, the person who committed this heinous act was a Syrian Brit. He was there legally. He had become naturalized as a British citizen years ago. But he was from Syria. He was somebody who was known to the police as being a fellow traveler if not a member of Hamas. I don't know how you become a member of your actually in their own diaspora, but he was Hamas supporter. This wasn't just some random crazy and it certainly wasn't right wing terrorism which is what Starmer spends all his time obsessing about. This has to do with sort of the embolding nature of sort of Islamo fascism in countries such as Great Britain in which the police have two tier policing. If you go and you write something which is at all offensive, even doing so much as to, as to wave the British flag at a pro Palestinian rally, you can be arrested. But if you go and go and rape little girls or you go and stab, a judge would say, well, you know, he's from the Middle east and he doesn't know any better. And they let them off with a, with a, with a hand slap. They understand what's going on. They the sort of, the terrorists. And I was very proud that the president of Israel by name, sort of called out Keith Starmer as having responsibility for this action. Starmer is a dead man walking politically, and this is yet another sort of knife for him, pardon my use of this expression, but the man politically is gone. He's dead and good riddance to him. Unfortunately, what he has brought on British society will probably last for at least several generations. The Democratic, sorry, the Labour Party in Israel has an awful lot to answer for. And we just had the Day of Judgment in the Jewish calendar. And I have a sneaking suspicion that when they get up and go see their maker, he's not going to be very pleased.
Jake Novak
Jim, I only have 30 seconds left, but I know we want to. We've got people who are soft on crime here in this country too. Irina's law was passed, by the way, with the, with the veto proof majority, at least in the lower house in North Carolina. This is the law that they passed to stop people from getting released a million times and doing something like killing that Ukrainian refugee like we all saw in Charlotte on that commuter train. Again, I only have about 20 seconds left. But the governor, Josh Stein, he's a Keir Starmer in his own right. He's not signing this law and he only has like a day left to do it before it becomes a pocket veto. What is he thinking?
Dr. James Nuzzo
What he's thinking about is, is October, sorry, November of 26, when he intends to run for Stillis's open seat. And he's got to go and appease his Democratic funding base, which is significantly left in the electorate in North Carolina. That's what he's doing. He's playing politics. He knows that 2026 is there in some sense. He knows that the laws is going to be made law with or without his signature. And so he's basically going and getting money nationally in order to run fertilise. That's all this is. It's pure, nasty, horrible, brutal politics.
Jake Novak
Yeah, well, it's not good politics because his poll ratings would go up if he had signed it on time. Dr. James Nezdo, thank you so much for joining us. Have a great weekend.
Dr. James Nuzzo
Thank you.
Jake Novak
Coming up, the left's poster boy for illegal immigration is a wife beater, a human trafficker, and now a loser in a key court battle. Emily Finn and I will discuss and take the politics and the tax breaks away. And how do you get people to buy Teslas again? This new Model Y might do it. And it's price to move. American Sunrise Early Edition will be right back. That's a live shot of Mistook Connecticut. If I see Julia Roberts, I'll let you know. For those of you who understand that joke, you can tell me. It's chilly in the northeast this morning. It's gonna get warmer. It's gonna get into the 70s at some point. But it's 49 degrees in this general area. I don't live too far from mystic geographically. To drive there would be impossible. For those of you who know your history, Connecticut and Long Island, Long island used to be part of Connecticut and I, I live on Long Island. They actually used to be the same state. Welcome back to American Sunrise Early Edition special. Welcome to those of you on getter and rumble, especially the people on getter who know that the term is own goal, not self goal. But you know, when I have a sports guest, you can get really upset about that. But you're right, it is own goal, not self goal. All right. It wasn't a good day for the so called Maryland man. That's what they call him, the illegal alien Kilmer Abrego Garcia, who they insist on calling Maryland man. That's like me going to, to Singapore for a couple of days and calling me Singapore man. It's just, it's inaccurate journalism. Forget the politics just for a second. It's inaccurate journalism. But all right, that's my, I'm upset about that. But anyway, federal immigration judge, a US Federal immigration judge denied Kilmer's petition for asylum, reopening his 2019 case. Emily Finn joins us now, real America's Voice contributor. And Emily, this guy, you know, as we learned over the course of the summer, but this guy, he's got a conviction on domestic violence, wife beating. He was a human trafficker, probably a child human trafficker. Obviously that wasn't completely adjudicated in court, but those were the very credible charges against him and they have not been refuted. And yet this guy is still the poster boy. Senators went to visit him, people made him into a hero and they called him a mar. I mean, do you think now they'll finally maybe look for someone else to rally around, or maybe there isn't anyone better. Maybe he's the best they've got.
Emily Finn
You know, this guy has definitely become the face of immigration policy in the U.S. right now. It's hard to keep track of how many different countries he was being bounced around between. But the fact of the matter is, I mean, I think that he is a criminal. Right. I mean, we know that he did things that were really bad. And this is something that the Trump administration has been trying to crack down on throughout the entire country. They're going after the criminals. I've been saying this over and over again. It's not the, it's not the grandmas that they're rounding up. You know, they're going after the gang members, the people that are convicted of crimes. And it's really, really interesting now that his, his case has been denied. You know, I think like you said, Jake, he's not the saint that the Democrats are trying to paint him out to be. And it's just another example of how the Trump administration's immigration policy is what needs to be enforced throughout the country.
Jake Novak
Yeah. And this is what the anti Trumpers need to be very worried about. It's starting to be clear now that all of their coordinated campaigns, because these campaigns are coordinated. Do you think that every producer in every newsroom, especially local newsrooms around the country, is smart enough to know what to say? They don't. They get talking points. I know this for a fact. They used to try to send them to me. It's pathetic. But most of them just. Oh, that's what they want us to say. Okay. They should be very nervous because it's not working. The judge, the courts now on a lot, in a larger percentage not being motivated by this. They have to be worried about that. And again, there's new owners of some of these media stations. Hello, cbs, you got a new owner in Skydance. I think they might want to think about stealing someone else's talking points. How about that?
Emily Finn
I think it's time to definitely think about the narrative that they're pushing. Right. It's not resonating with the American people anymore. People are seeing through it because it's not promoting safety, it's promoting criminals. It's promoting people that, you know, commit crimes in this country. And, and at the end of the day, nobody wants that. Especially if you're an American taxpayer, you don't want any of your money going towards these kinds of policies. And so it's really hard for the mainstream media outlets to continue these narratives and continue these talking points because I think people are seeing through it at this point. Jake.
Jake Novak
Yeah, well, how about trying to make some money and putting stuff that the American people might agree with on your programs. Emily Finn, thank you so much for joining us. We'll see you again from 8 to 10am in the big show, American Sunrise. Thank you.
Emily Finn
Thank you, Jake.
Jake Novak
Okay, let me be blunt. Gold is up around 40% this year and going higher. That's not speculation, that's reality. And if you're a portion of a saving, if you're, if you don't have a portion of your savings diversified into gold, you're missing the boat. Here's the facts. Inflation is still too high, the US Dollar is still too weak and the government debt is insurmountable. Have a nice day. This is why central banks are flocking to gold. They're the ones driving prices up to record highs. But it's not too late to buy gold from Birch Gold Group and get in the door. Now Birch Gold will help you convert an existing IRA or 401k into a tax sheltered IRA. In gold, you don't pay a dime out of pocket. Just text America to 98-98-98 and claim your free info kit. Who else can say that? What else can say that? Text America to 98-98-98 right now to claim your free info kit on gold. That's America to 9898 98. Protect your future today with Birch Gold. Coming up, Tesla needs a game changer and fast. You're looking at what could be that game changer. I'll have the details and the price tag for this new model Y performance. It's called When American Sunrise early edition comes right back. That's a live look at onset. Massachusetts. Now that looks warm today. Maybe Massachusetts is warmer than Connecticut and Long Island. It's possible we're gonna get warmer today on the northeast. I'm not worried. But a crisp morning and that looks like just a beautiful morning there on the Massachusetts coast. Here's another thing that's beautiful. Let's take a look where the markets are going to begin today. And I like all this green that we're seeing here. Oh no. The government shutdown is going to hurt the mark. No, it's not. The markets are up since the shutdown. They're going to Be up again today at least at the open. Look at this and look at crude oil. It's up this morning, but we're down to 60 bucks. That $60 a barrel level for crude oil. You know, your gas prices are going to be nice and low for around Thanksgiving time if you're looking to drive somewhere for that. Now look at bitcoin also making a comeback. Bitcoin. Now the last time I checked it was at the 120 mark. There it is, 120. It's down a little bit this morning, but we're getting back towards those highs. We were at 109 just a few days ago. So bitcoin getting now back close to those all time highs, etc at 125 was the all time high on bitcoin. So we're making some progress there. Chat GPT maker Open AI, it's really only been around for a couple of years. That company and Chat GPT has only been around for like three years. And yet based on some private investments that OpenAI closed yesterday. Open AI is now worth, this is not a typo, 500 billion with A B dollars. This is a company that's basically three, four years old. That's incredible. Now if you're saying to yourself, hey, when can I get in on that? When are they going to go IPO? When can I buy stock in OpenAI? Well, don't hold your breath. They're not really in a rush to do that. They don't want to go to market, but they still want to give more value and wealth to their own employees and executives. So they're making private deals, investment deals. In other words, some investment firms making investments in their private shares. And, and of course they give some of those private shares, a lot of them to their executives and some of them to their employees a little bit further down the chain. So it's a way to give them a lot of wealth and value without doing an IPO. But my goodness, $500 billion valuation, you can bet the stock exchanges would love for that to be traded on the open market. But not yet and probably not anytime soon. All right, Lisa Cook, you know her, the Fed governor who President Trump fired. She's going to get to keep her job at least through January. The Supreme Court ruled that she gets to do that. She, her firing is going to be put on hold until she can give her full case for her job to a lower court. So this is a victory for Lisa Cook. I don't think it's a huge loss for President Trump though, because frankly, the tide has turned on the Fed anyway and they are in the rate cutting mode. I don't think this is going to be a huge issue one way or the other, but it is proof for those who believe that the courts just do whatever President Trump says, especially the Supreme Court. Not true. We still have an independent Supreme Court. You can love or hate their decisions. But please stop going batty about a Supreme Court that's supposedly under President Trump's thumb. If that were the case, they would have upheld her firing right away. So make sure you have facts on your side when you start accusing America of turning into a fascist society. There will be no big jobs report later today. Every first Friday of the month at 8:30am Eastern, they roll out the government jobs report, which by the way is mostly a piece of garbage. It doesn't really tell you that much of a truth about the economy. But it's on hold this morning. Now this is like withdrawal for Wall Street. It's like taking away their drugs because they love betting on the jobs report. Do the people on Wall street really believe that the jobs report is completely accurate? No, none of them with the brain have ever really believed that. But they like betting on it because it's a very big public dice roll and they have all their high speed trading programs programmed in to do something immediately to trade a billion shares if necessary in half a second based on what the number is. And now they won't be able to do that now at 8:30am however, if they would like me to roll a pair of dice on camera and they can bet on that, I'd be very happy to do that because it's just about as useful as the jobs report. I like economic numbers, I like studying them and I just don't trust them. The ones that come from the government. It's basically 20 years later we find out what the real numbers are. So, so get over at Wall street. You're not going to get your candy today. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. It's moving America. Artilleryteaco.com promo code LIBERTY for 20% off your order. Tesla is now taking orders in the U.S. the U.S. version of the Model Y performance. This is their new car. It's pricing starts at $59,130. Now this is without that $7,500 federal tax credit for buying a EV. Remember, that ended on September 30th. Now, this car is getting pretty good reviews for the most part. It still looks a little small to me for 60 grand. Well, a little bit less than 60 grand. But here's what I like about this Tesla. The only way Tesla is going to get out of this slump is by building even better cars at even better prices. This is a step in the right direction. I don't know about you, obviously I talk and write about politics all day, but I don't consider politics when I buy a car. I consider where it's made, I want to buy an American car, all that kind of stuff. But you know what I mean? I don't think about, oh, boy, what's the guy at Ford? Who did he vote for? I don't really care about that. I try to decide whether I'm going to buy the car one way or the other because I want to have a car that's reliable. And it looks like Tesla's taking a step at least in trying to do that. I like that. Okay, GM has gone from saying its Fairfax, Kansas plant is going to be like, maybe idled a little bit to now indefinitely laying off 900 workers. That's a lot for one plant. That is a plant, by the way, just outside of Kansas City. It's where GM makes the popular Equinox model. Equinox and having a good year. But it's also going to be where GM makes the electric chevy bolt for 2027. The official GM statement on why they're laying off these people is a little bit murky. It's kind of like, well, maybe this is temporary, maybe it isn't. Maybe they're repurposing the plant. It's a little bit murky. GM had some very good sales numbers for the last quarter. So I think this might be more of a repurpose than basically a downsizing. But we shall see. That's. That's a lot of layoffs for one plant. All right, now an update on a story that I first told you about a few weeks ago. And I think that this story, the update, proves all of the points I'm making about the car industry and the truck industry in general. Remember, I've been saying that I believe that off roading will become a more popular and a hotter selling trend than EVs within five years. So here's what Nissan's doing. First of all, as I told you a few weeks ago, they're bringing back the very off road friendly Nissan Xterra that's going to be ready in 2028. But they announced yesterday there will be no EV model of the Xterra. It will be a hybrid with the V6 engine. So I think that kind of proves my point. EV popularity going down, off roading going up. And the Nissan Xterra is the embodiment.
John Reed
Of all of that.
Jake Novak
Okay, well, this is awkward. Subaru had a terrible September. Sales dropped 18 and a half percent compared to a year ago. The only model to post a year over year increase was the Subaru Legacy, which Subaru just announced is ending production. So their most popular vehicle is not going to be around anymore. That is a little bit awkward to say the least. Now, in case you were wondering, the iconic Subaru Outback also had a pretty bad month in September, down 11.3%. If they don't sell Outbacks, Subaru is not going to do well, legacy or no legacy. Okay, coming up, I guess it depends on which polls you believe, but there's a wild difference between two polls that just came out in the Virginia governor's race over the last 36 hours. We'll dig into that when American sunrise early October 3rd. Here are this morning's top stories. It's day three of the Democrats government shutdown and suddenly the Democrats and their media foot soldiers are starting to realize they've made a terrible mistake. The White House is serious about using the shutdown to permanently erase thousands of federal jobs. And the plans are all drawn up. And the shutdown is also a big opportunity for the Trump team's top budget cutter to swing that axe. His name is Ken Vaught and he's suddenly one of the most feared men in America. Fear of a different kind has been gripping Christians and Jews in the UK Ever since Prime Minister Keir Starmer recognized the non existent Palestinian state rewarding terrorism. And then it happened, an attack at a synagogue on Yom Kippur morning yesterday, killing two worshippers, wounding many others. It's also a war on illegal immigration. And the LES poster boy in that fight got some bad news yesterday. Just don't call him Maryland man anymore. American SUNRISE EARLY EDITION begins now. Welcome back to AMERICAN SUNRISE EARLY edition. It's a no tie Friday. I'm Jake Novak. Thank you so much for joining us, especially those of you on the Getter Rumble chats. Also you can comment and watch live also on X and on Substack. I look at them all joining us now is Virginia Republican Lieutenant Governor candidate John Reed. And John, before I get to the races in particular, and some of the numbers in those races, you know, the narrative, John, is that the government shutdown really hurts people in Virginia because there's so many federal workers in Virginia, especially Northern Virginia, and that this shutdown is gonna really turn people against whomever they blame for the shutdown. The media's trying really hard to blame Donald Trump. But I wonder, are the people in Virginia there aware of the fact that it was the Democrats who voted for this shutdown? And do you think that's gonna play positively for the Republicans on Election Day?
John Reed
Yeah, look, this is something that everybody has to be concerned about. There are a lot of people who work in the federal government here in Northern Virginia, where I am this morning. I'm about to talk to a bunch of high school students for their election Day analysis. So I will be able to tell you tomorrow how that's playing in some of the households up here. But you know, to your point, the truth is we've got two Democrat senators here in Virginia and they both been complaining non stop about the shutdown. But then when it came time to negotiate to stop a shutdown, what did they do? They let it happen. I don't think they picked up the phone. I don't think they went to the White House. I don't think they sat with their Republican colleagues and tried to work out a solution. They're playing politics with this. And remember, I worked in the US Senate, I saw this stuff up close. It's always about politics with these folks. They're never really looking out for the average person. I think people are sick and tired of it. And it's one reason that I think they're going to pick Republicans here in Virginia, because we've got a pretty good track record of actually getting things done in this state and trying to avoid the ugly politics.
Jake Novak
Yeah, look, the Trump team and the Republicans were in favor of the continuing resolution. So if people in Virginia are saying, why can't we just go back to the way it was last week? It's very clear which party and which side was okay with that. The Democrats said, no, we want some other goodies. And so we're going to shut down the government until we get it. It's just, if there were only an honest mainstream news media, this wouldn't even be a question. But I'd be very interested for you to tell me after you speak to those high school students, if they actually know who's responsible for this. All right now, John, I want to get to the polls. The polls I've seen in your lieutenant governor's race have been pretty consistent. I've seen you ahead in just about all of them. But in the governor's race, I'm really calling foul on some of these polls that I've seen. Now, first it was the poll that came out from a two and they have Abigail Spamberger only up by three points on Winsome Sears. But then there was another Emerson poll that came out a few hours later showing spamberger up by 10 points. John, that's a crazy swing. Somebody is really wrong here or someone is really dishonest. What's your take on this?
John Reed
Yeah, look, I'm seeing a lot of polls, some public polls, some that are internal polls, and they're all really tight, four, five, six points at most. So I think the ones, you know, when you're analyzing these, as objective as I could be about it being one of the candidates, I think you throw out the extremes and you try to look at the patterns. And the patterns are that this is tightening up. Winsome Sears is all over the state. I'm all over the state. Jason Mears, who still has a full time job as attorney general, is all over the state. The Democrats keep doubling and tripling down on really unpopular decisions and unpopular policies. You know, Abigail Spamberger said the other day that she would repeal the executive order that makes sure that law enforcement cooperates with the feds when it comes to immigration issues. So she wants to return us to a sanctuary state status. Virginians aren't there. The trans issue. I don't know why the Democrats are willing to die on this issue. I mean, putting boys in girls sports and putting boys in girls locker rooms. You know, I'm a gay candidate and I'm telling you that stinks. People do not like it, including in the gay community. They are not okay with that and conservatives certainly aren't. And I think there are a lot of people who would normally vote Democrat who are going to say they don't want to have anything to do with that. This is not something they're going to accept. So the polls are indicative of a shift in Virginia that I think the Republican candidates are doing very well because the Democrats are doubling down on bad stuff.
Jake Novak
Yeah, and there's also just an annoying trend in the mainstream media. You know, again, yesterday or two days ago, you had two polls back to back within hours of each other. One showing a three point lead for Spamberger, one showing a ten point lead. Guess which poll the mainstream media made huge headlines with. They only talked about the 10.1. They didn't even mention the A2 poll. You had to go to the right wing websites, the smaller outlets, the more honest places. And you know, here. Here I am. I told you about both polls. If you're watching at CBS or at any of the local stations in Virginia, why can't you do what I'm doing? I don't have a big staff and I was able to get this data. I mean, you are deliberately withholding information from your viewers. Why anyone should trust these people is beyond me. It's again, to me, this offends me on both levels. One as a conservative, but it also offends me on a level as someone who's been in journalism for well over 30 years. You're literally making yourself a worse product. You can't put one little line or a sub headline saying, but Another poll says 3%. I mean, listen, you worked in the news media in Virginia. I mean, this gotta be just from a business standpoint. This must offend you as well.
John Reed
Yeah. Look, most of these reporters now have 30 seconds to tell their story. They're gonna go for the easy story. And I will also tell you somebody who speaks a lot of schools and universities, a lot of these new journalists are not taught to be objective. It's all advocacy journalism. So if a poll comes out where someone is in agreement, that's the poll they go with instead of objectively trying to show the pattern or the collection of polls. Same thing with the money thing. If Republicans are not competing with the same fervor that Democrats are on money, guess what story they're going to do? They're going to do the story about how the Democrats are raising more money than Republicans, which totally misses the point of why somebody's running on the issues. I'm getting sick and tired of those stories too. But that's modern journalism. It's 30 seconds. This interview that you and I have done this morning, which is several minutes, is a real treat.
Jake Novak
Let's talk about those issues, the real issues and not distracting from them. Abigail Spanberger, like you said, she doesn't want to talk about the trans issue, putting boys and girls bathrooms and some of this other outrageous stuff. So she's trying. Her latest message for the last few days has been, oh, no, the big issue here in Virginia isn't any of that. It's about affordability. And she's really angry and she really thinks that people are angry about how unaffordable things are. But every analysis of, for example, her energy policy shows that it will make life much more unaffordable for Virginians. I'm an old Vetco customer from my childhood days in Norfolk, Virginia, and I remember back then that was the 70s when things started to really shoot up higher. That's going to be a big issue if people really look into that and dig into how much more they're going to have to pay for energy if her plan goes through.
John Reed
Yeah, it's great to hear them talk about affordability issues after the four years of Joe Biden inflation and the Clean Economy act here in Virginia, which ties us to a lot of bad policies in California which have caused their prices to skyrocket. You know, the truth is, conservatives Republicans generally have ideas that keep prices stable, that recognize the business environment, that make sure that people can keep jobs. And the Democrats continue to double and triple down on social justice warrior ideas which inevitably cause prices to skyrocket. I don't think that the people are going to be fooled by it. They saw what happened over the last four years and they've got a choice to make. Do they go for stability with solid conservative ideas or do they tie themselves to principles that have wrecked the economy in California and in New York? I don't think they're going to go for that, John.
Jake Novak
Now, let's talk specifically about your lieutenant governor's race against Gazella Hashmi, because something really interesting has happened, interesting development in that a Democrat state senator has not only decided to back you and cross party lines and back you for lieutenant governor, but he's trying to create a Democrats for John Reed group, I guess, in the House of Delegates. What's going on with that? And do you think that this is a good omen for the top of the ticket as well?
John Reed
Oh, listen, I think it's great that regular Democrats, people who are kind of moderate certainly on some issues, have decided that the modern Democrat Party in Virginia has gone too left for them. They've had a purge in the Democrat Party in Virginia where they've gotten rid of anybody who won't toe the party line. Like you're not for day of birth abortion. They don't want you in the Democrat Party. I got news for the Democrats. There are a lot of pro choice people. You know, I'm pro life, but there are a lot of pro choice people who think day of birth abortion is way too far. You know, we're no longer debating first and second trimester. Now we're talking about the day the baby's going to be born. The Democrats are saying that parents shouldn't have any say so in their minor daughter making that decision. I know a lot of Democrats who don't agree with me on abortion policy, but they certainly want to be the people to have the final say on what their mine or daughter does in such an important decision. And the Democrats are radical on it. So it makes sense that they would say we're looking for a candidate like John Reed who's reasonable and responsible and fair to put their support behind because everybody is radical, especially the woman that I'm running against, Ghazala Hashmi, who's been pushing all of this stuff during her five or six years in the state Senate.
David Brody
Yeah.
Jake Novak
I mean, it's the hills they're dying on. And you know why they're supporting them? There's really only one plausible answer, and that's money. They're getting money to support these unpopular positions that the public doesn't want. And sometimes it works for them. They still end up winning an election because either the public doesn't know about these policies because not enough people are talking about it like you and I or what. That's really what's going on. So what. But I have about 20 seconds left. What's what town are you in, Northern Virginia and which high school you're going to talk to?
John Reed
I'm in Vienna. I'm at Oakton High School. And wish me luck because seriously, the high school students are sometimes tougher than the international press corps. I think it's going to be interesting today.
Jake Novak
Yeah. Well, we know that they did more reading overnight than the press corps, that's for sure. John Reed, thank you so much for joining us. I know, I know it's going to be a busy weekend for you, but have a good one anyway. Okay.
John Reed
Thanks very much for having me.
Jake Novak
Okay. Coming up, President Trump has a new hatchet man and I think he's a much better front man for cutting government jobs and budgets than Elon Musk ever was. We'll see if David Brody and you agree with me when American SUNRISE EARLY EDITION comes right back. That's a shot of Chicago, Illinois, this morning where I think it's warmer there than it is in on Long Island. Hope they have a peaceful weekend in Chicago. Fingers crossed. Welcome back to AMERICAN SUNRISE EARLY edition. I'm Jake Novak. I think earlier in the show I called him Ken. His name is Russ Bot. I don't know why Russell bought I don't know why called him Ken. Been a long week for Me. Russell Vaught is the director of the Office of Management and Budget. But in the last couple of days, he has emerged as the face and the voice of budget cutting in the Trump administration. He's the guy that they're talking about going, look, looking at the shutdown numbers and the shutdown situation and deciding which jobs can go for good. He's the one who announced the freezing of $18 billion in infrastructure funding from New York State. And David Brody, bring you in here. I like this for a couple of reasons. First of all, that's his job. He is the director of the Office of Management and Budget. Second of all, he doesn't come with the baggage and the volatility of an Elon Musk. I liked a lot of what Elon Musk did with Doge, don't get me wrong. But we all know he's a loose cannon. He goes back and forth. Russ Vaught is an employee of President Trump very clearly, and this is his expertise. And I like the idea that someone in House now is taking the point on this, on this whole thing.
David Brody
Yeah. So a couple of things. First of all, Russ Vote, by the way, I think it was Russ Vote, actually. Russ Vote.
Jake Novak
I got his name all wrong.
David Brody
Yeah, no, it's all right. Yeah. Ken Vought. No, just kidding. Russ Vote. I'm just playing around with you. Listen, join the club. I'm at the top of the list, by the way of miss. Anyhow, let's just move on.
Jake Novak
I didn't eat or drink for 25 hours yesterday. Give me a break.
David Brody
And you know what? Your, your state, like that is better than 99% of Americans, FYI. All right, so. So I've known Russ for about 10 years or so. Actually, I know him pretty well. And there's a couple things to understand. First of all, Elon Musk, okay. He doesn't know government. Russ Vote knows government number one. He knows the inter workings of how this whole thing should go down. So, right. There is not just an advantage, but it's kind of game, set, match. Right? And this is why, matter of fact, Trump putting out a video this morning basically saying, here comes the reaper. And you see Russ Vogt in a cloth, you know, a cloak. Excuse me, you know, because he's coming. The reaper is coming. So, so there's that. Now, if you look at Ross votes history as it relates to his LinkedIn profile, I mean, he was a legislative assistant for Phil Graham. Now, of course, Phil Graham, as we know, was a Democrat. But now or back in the day, he changed and Became a Republican in the early 80s. And excuse me, Phil Graham, getting all my names mixed up now. Phil Graham, obviously, as you know, free market guy, deregulation, major conservative economic thinker. And so this is some of what shaped Russ Vote. And then of course, he's now he was before this at the center for Renewing America, which is conservative think tank. Before that, the Heritage Foundation. So if you look at everything that has gone down in Russ Vogt's life, he is a true believer in solid conservative economic principles. He's not one of these fly by night guys or just kind of doing the company line because that's what Trump wants him to do. No, this is what he lives and breathes every single day. So good for us vote. And yeah, he is Democrats worst nightmare, Jake.
Jake Novak
Yeah. And by the way, I want everyone pay attention to the little banner down there. It says Russ Vote Hatchet. Man, I wrote that. So at one point, I did know his name last night. The, the control room puts up all those things that I write. But I'm responsible if you don't like them. By the way, it's also my fault. But there you go. At one point I did know it. That's my defense right there. But you know, look, it's an interesting situation. The Democrats, again, the mainstream media is of course dishonest and lazy and a lot of them are just plain not that smart. But this is the Democrat shutdown. This isn't just a Republican talking point. This is, this is an objective fact. The Trump administration and the Republicans were willing to go with a continuing resolution that just to keep things the way they are. Now, if you're a budget hawk, you can be upset with that, but that's a different argument. The Democrats literally decided they wanted this shutdown. This is their decision to shut down. So the fact that they can go on national television and complain about a shutdown that they started is just so laughable. I wonder, David, any chance that the public is onto them? I mean, other than our viewers and the viewers of a few other places? I mean, I don't know. I don't know. Because they're getting away with it.
David Brody
I think so. But you have to be at least a 30% free thinker to kind of get there. You know, if you're just going to just go and turn on msnbc for about 20 minutes and then go, you know, the grocery store, I'm not quite sure you get it. Because they're going to, you know, milk this thing to death, that it's Republicans fault, which we know it's not. Look, the bottom line is Republicans passed the continuing resolution in the House, so they did their job. And then Republicans were going to do it in the Senate. So there was just seven votes they needed, actually eight because of Rand Paul. That's a long story with Rand Paul, but at least he's principled. So we got. We'll talk about Rand Paul another day.
Jake Novak
All right. Well, you're going to do your job now. Two hours of American Sunrise coming up. I'll join in. The 9am hour and early edition will be back on Monday. This is an iHeart podcast.
This episode of "American Sunrise Early Edition," hosted by Jake Novak, delivers rapid-fire coverage of political, cultural, and economic news, emphasizing events through the lens of American values and skepticism of mainstream narratives. The program's main themes include the Democrats' government shutdown and its political fallout, international security concerns following recognition of a Palestinian state by the UK, the state of US immigration policy, the impact of federal budget cuts, auto industry updates, and the Virginia gubernatorial race. Featuring contributions from Dr. James Nuzzo, Emily Finn, John Reed, and David Brody, the show presents a blend of analysis, pointed commentary, and interviews.
[00:00–06:00, 12:46–14:12, 27:59–32:13, 43:12–46:54]
Main Narrative: The shutdown, now in its third day, is framed as a strategic misstep by Democrats, who are accused of using the shutdown as leverage for policies unpopular with the general public.
The Trump administration, per Novak, was willing to continue with the status quo, but Democrats "deliberately decided" on the shutdown.
Russ Vought (mispronounced early as "Ken Vought"), the Trump team’s budget director, is cast as the "hatchet man," targeting unnecessary federal jobs, mainly affecting what hosts describe as the Democratic base (federal workers).
Guest Dr. James Nuzzo draws a "Peanuts" analogy: compares the Democrats to Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown, making themselves look "silly and stupid".
Discussion of internal Democratic tensions, with Nuzzo noting that some moderate Democrats have considered breaking ranks due to fear of being primaried from the left, specifically mentioning AOC’s challenge to Chuck Schumer.
Jake Tapper is referenced as grilling Hakeem Jeffries over healthcare funds for undocumented immigrants (see below), an interview which the hosts say exposes Democratic equivocation.
[06:00–09:09, 14:14–18:48]
Focus on federal healthcare provisions connected to undocumented immigrants, with mainstream media accused of “word games” and failing to confront reality.
Jake Tapper highlighted calling out Hakeem Jeffries, exposing discrepancies in the Democratic messaging about healthcare for non-citizens.
Notably, Dr. Nuzzo points out that technological advances make it harder for politicians to dodge past public statements, as interview footage can quickly be recirculated.
The case of Kilmer Abrego Garcia (dubbed “Maryland Man”) is covered in depth: a migrant with a history of criminal convictions including domestic violence and alleged human trafficking. A federal judge has denied his asylum claim, which hosts see as a win for immigration enforcement.
Quote: "He's got a conviction on domestic violence, wife beating. He was a human trafficker, probably a child human trafficker... And yet this guy is still the poster boy. Senators went to visit him, people made him into a hero..."
— Jake Novak [15:08]
Quote: "The Trump administration has been trying to crack down... they're going after the gang members, the people convicted of crimes... it's just another example of how the Trump administration's immigration policy is what needs to be enforced."
— Emily Finn [16:52]
[09:09–12:46]
UK’s recognition of a Palestinian state by Prime Minister Keir Starmer is connected by hosts and guests to the subsequent deadly attack at a Manchester synagogue during Yom Kippur.
Dr. Nuzzo characterizes the perpetrator as a Syrian-Brit, naturalized, Hamas supporter—not a "random crazy" or right-wing extremist. He criticizes UK’s policing and judicial double standards, claiming "Islamo-fascism" is emboldened while actual threats are ignored.
Starmer is called “a dead man walking politically” by Nuzzo, saying his leadership has invited terror and will have lasting negative consequences on British society.
[12:46–13:21, 27:59–41:23]
North Carolina: New law ("Irina's Law") passed to stop repeat offenders from being released, in reaction to a high-profile killing by a released migrant. Governor Josh Stein’s resistance is called "playing politics," with accusations that he’s posturing for future Senate ambitions.
Virginia: Interview with John Reed, Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor, dissects the political implications of the shutdown for federal-worker-heavy Virginia, mainstream media bias, polling irregularities, and major campaign issues (immigration, trans rights, abortion, affordability).
Quote: "The Democrats keep doubling and tripling down on really unpopular decisions and unpopular policies... putting boys in girls sports and putting boys in girls locker rooms. I'm a gay candidate and I'm telling you that stinks."
— John Reed [34:19]
Reed notes a Democratic state senator backing his candidacy, reflecting discontent among moderate Democrats over their party’s "radical" stances, particularly on late-term abortion.
[19:01–27:59]
[43:12–46:54]
Segment discusses the ascension of Russ Vought (director of OMB) as the public face of budget cutting in the Trump administration, including freezing $18 billion in New York infrastructure funds.
David Brody asserts Vought’s conservative credentials and expertise, contrasting him with Elon Musk (“Musk doesn’t know government; Vought does”).
Trump administration’s approach is described as more strategic and less reliant on media personalities or "loose cannons."
"The Democratic Party is a party of Lucys. All they're doing is giving opportunities for Trump to pull the ball away from them and make them look silly and stupid."
— Dr. James Nuzzo [03:28]
"Joe and Minka fighting. There's really less than half a brain between them. So I'm surprised they don't fight more about things like how to spell cat."
— Jake Novak [09:09], on MSNBC hosts’ on-air spat
"If you can't get that protection, get out. Because history tells us this isn't going to end well."
— Jake Novak [09:58], on safety for Jews and Christians in the UK
"The Trump administration has been trying to crack down... they're going after the criminals... not the grandmas that they're rounding up."
— Emily Finn [16:53]
"You're literally making yourself a worse product. You can't put one little line or a sub headline saying, but Another poll says 3%?"
— Jake Novak [35:16], on media poll reporting
"Putting boys in girls sports and putting boys in girls locker rooms. I'm a gay candidate and I'm telling you that stinks. People do not like it, including in the gay community."
— John Reed [34:23]
"Russ Vought... knows government. Elon Musk, okay. He doesn't know government. Russ Vought knows government."
— David Brody [44:13]
The hosts maintain a fast-paced, unsparing, at times sarcastic tone with strong conservative viewpoints and open skepticism towards mainstream media and Democratic strategies. Interviews are direct; the show is rich in pointed analogies, personalized political commentary, and populist rhetoric.
This episode offers a deeply partisan and analytical overview of federal and state politics, immigration controversies, public safety, economic shifts, and media integrity. The interplay between guests and host, combined with layered pop culture references and sharp critiques, delivers robust content for listeners invested in current US political discourse from a conservative perspective.
