I'm Steve Gurr. Today it is Wednesday, the 5th of November in the year of our Lord 2025. Let's get to today's top stories. As always, thank you for being here with us today. Unreal America's Voice. We appreciate you taking time to join us. Crime continues to be an issue in America, mainly in deep blue cities with soft on crime policies. Congressman Mark Harris of North Carolina is calling for Governor Stein to deploy the National Guard to restore law and order in Charlotte, North Carolina. I'll bring him on to discuss the issue of crime today. Also, the government shut down now, the longest in history, 36 days and counting. Democrats continue to hold the federal government hostage, all while American citizens feel the burden. More on that coming up today as well. And then later, I'll bring on Congresswoman Beth Van Dyne to bring the conversation around and discuss how the shutdown potentially affected the elections held yesterday. All the details and updates coming your way. But first, I want to start with yesterday's outcome. No surprises really. The results of yesterday's elections didn't turn out the way some of us would have liked. But in all honesty, I'm not shocked by any of it. Like I said, turned out the way I expected. In New York, voters elected self proclaimed Democrat socialist Zoran Mandami as mayor, beating independent candidate and former governor Andrew Cuomo as well as the Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa. Mamdani was the front runner during most of the race with colonel in the gap near the end, but to no avail. Over in New Jersey, Democrat Mikey Sherrill won the governor's race over Republican Jack Cittarelli, his third shot at it. Barack Obama had his fingerprints all over this one, especially after President Trump endorsed Cittarelli. Obama went in person to New Jersey to attend and speak at one of her rallies over the weekend. And then the governor's race in Virginia where voters turned out to choose the first female governor of that state. Democrat Abigail Spanberger beat Republican winsome Earl Spears. Spanberger then gave a speech riddled with anti Trump propaganda. Real America's Voice had correspondence in all those places yesterday. As you know, I'd like to go ahead and bring our team back together, get the reaction results. We have Mike Crispy, Rick McHenry and David Zier Joining us now, David is in New York and we'll start there because it's a new day in New York. David, maybe not a good one, but one that was not unexpected. What kind of reaction are you feeling there in the big red apple? Well, Mamdani's speech was like Che Guevara and IDI Amin had a kid. Right. This speech was for somewhere in the third world because he's going to. You know, you're immigrants and you're oppressed and nobody's oppressed. And every immigrant. And we're all immigrants or kids of immigrants or grandkids of immigrants. You know, our lives are better than the countries we came from. So nobody's oppressed. It's all a lie. It's class warfare. I was not surprised by the outcome. I just want to add, Steve, you know, there's reasons why we're here. Mayor Adams had a corrupt administration with many scandals. Cuomo jumped back in, didn't campaign on the ground for like three months. He did too little, too late. If you added Curtis Lewa and the five candidates under him, including the write in and Adams and Fernandez and other, you still don't bridge the gap of what he lost by. So this is on Cuomo, this is on Adams. I don't think the victory of Mamdani is as big of a mandate as people think. But he is bad, he's scary. And his millionaire friends will build all of these affordable houses, but his millionaires. Okay, Trump's millionaires aren't okay, right? Yeah, he came in with 50.4% of the vote. Here's something interesting that I saw come through today from NBC exit polling from foreign born voters In New York, 62% to Mamdani, 23% to Cuomo, just 12% to sleep. So 62% of foreign born voters. Well, Mamdani, I thought those folks were leaving places they didn't like, David. But yet they vote accordingly to where they came from, not where they live. Strange to me. Yeah, well, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx were the driving forces. And the early voter turnout in Little Bangladesh, up in Washington Heights, Astoria, which used to be all Greek, you know, more conservative type voters. It's changed the demographic there. Astoria came out big time, which is Mamdani's home turf. So there are explanations for what happened. And you don't recognize parts of New York City anymore. It's a different world. It really is. Yeah. All right, let me shift over to Britt McHenry. She is in D.C. now. She was in Virginia yesterday. One of the Races that, you know, we thought could be closed at one point, but not really in the end. Brit, tell us about it. Oh, it was just a complete blue wave. I hate to say that or admit that, but it was for the Democrats in Virginia. Every ticket went blue. And I think a huge problem. There's a few here. Less than 50%, fewer than 50% of Republican registered Republican voters came out to vote. You are not going to get the numbers you need for winsome Earl Sears for governor if people are not turning out on election Day. Some other numbers that stood out to me. Abigail Spamberger was the clear winner, was 77% of early voting. Early voting was very huge in this particular election. 1.4 million votes cast, more than 300,000 more compared to when Governor Glenn Youngkin won in 2021. So this was a noticeable shift. What stood out to me. And I think the government shutdown had a part to play in this as well. When you give federal contracted workers and government workers the longest shutdown in history, now 36 days off, they have time to do that early voting. They have time to show up in person. And Abigail Spamberger also got 53% of the election day votes. She won by 11.4%. It was a wipeout. Republicans were not invigorated or excited about any of these candidates. And I understand why Winsome Earl Sears campaign was lagging. There was no star power. She has beef with President Trump. There was no MAGA endorsement of her. And that's where we are today. But I'll end it by saying it is very stark. It's a stark contrast. It's a bit triggering, I think, for most sane voters to see that Jay Jones won the Attorney General race. It was very close, but the text messages that he had leaked three weeks ago were very violent. And I spoke to a source in Spamberger's camp, and he said, I think affordability still prevailed. And he did an excellent job debating Jason Meyer's and he really stuck to his anti Trump rhetoric, which possibly, sadly, is what's going on right now in the state of Virginia. But, yeah, the numbers were huge. All right, so to New Jersey we go. Mike Crispy here with us. Mike, I saw the numbers come back from New Jersey. Jack Cittarelli got 122,000 more votes than he did in 2021. He got more votes than the current governor, Phil Murphy in his reelection, and yet somehow he got shelled by Mikey Sherrill. So what'd she get? 450,000 votes more than Phil Murphy. A remarkable series of numbers there, Mike. What do you make of it? You hit the nail right on the head, Steve. It was a record turnout election in New Jersey. If you would have told people before the election started that Jack Cittarelli, who came within three points last time, would get 122,000 more votes and not win, they would be surprised. The biggest story of the night was that in the urban centers of New Jersey, Campden Patterson, Newark, you saw record turnout, the highest turnout in the urban centers since 1997 in a gubernatorial election. Nobody was expecting that because Mikey Sherrill wasn't somebody who was looked at as somebody who would have appealed with black voters, but she did. That was pretty interesting. How did Jack Ciarrilli make up the gap? Where could he have made up the gap? Well, he got an endorsement from President Trump, as you said, but Trump was noticeably absent from New Jersey. He did not come campaign. And I hear from sources that's because some people in the traditional GOP in the state thought that he would hurt the Republicans chances. Obviously, we know that isn't true. You gotta make up for the enthusiasm somewhere. Democrats really turned on their voter turnout machine, their ballot harvesting machine, in prior elections. In places like Patterson, people have gone to jail over ballot harvesting and illegal voting. So there's a lot of precedent for it. It's not a conspiracy. We'll find out what happens in the coming weeks here. But those record numbers with the inner cities, that's the story. It was monumental. And we couldn't gin up the base and the turnout in the suburban and rural areas to match it. People are still wondering what's going on, Steve. And the last thing I'll say is that when the attack ads came out from either side, I think Cittarelli was playing it a little safe. Not going too hard against Cheryl, you know, the whole she's a woman thing. So he kind of took the high road. The whole time she was going hard against him, calling him High Tax Jack, which we know that isn't true. Republicans aren't going to raise taxes, but she killed him on that. So much so that voters don't pay much attention. Were thinking that Cittarelli was going to be the guy to raise taxes. Pretty bizarre. But he didn't hit back. I thought hard enough on that, Steve. And that was the difference in the election. Couple other notes from across the country that I think are important to make people aware of. Jacob Fry, the incumbent one in Minneapolis over the Somalian socialist Omar Fatah. So you have that. And Bruce Harold, the Incumbent in Seattle is looking to beat Katie Wilson and has not finished yet. But I want to go to something here real quick. I'll get you all to weigh in on it real quickly. It seems to me that in New York and David, I'll start with you. Mamdani tied into that same thing that Donald Trump did. He talked to voters that feel disenfranchised, forgotten, out, you know, out of, out of the limelight when it comes to what's happening in their lives. They're working hard, they're struggling to stay ahead. Donald Trump connected with middle class voters in 2024. And Mamdani did the same thing by talking about affordability. It's something Republicans should pay attention to before we get to the midterms. Your thoughts? It explains the rise of the Democratic socialists across America. Kids can't buy homes. They're not starting families until 35. They're saddled with student debt until they're 35, 40 years old. I bought a house at 27. I had three kids at 23. Those days are over. People feel the American dream is gone and fleeting. Trump needs to address it with the Democratic socialist types. Britt McHadry, your thought. I agree. I'm jealous. I need to buy my own first home at 39, but had a lot of student loan debt to pay off. I'll say this, the government needs to get back to work. The Democrats purposely did this, in my view, and it worked in the state of Virginia. And I will also note to end this, you guys, for Virginia, 64 delegates out of the 100 open seats are now Democrats. It is the largest amount that they've had in the Virginia Democratic caucus in decades, I'm told. So that is important as we look at these big elections going on to 20, 26, affordability, prices being taken down. We need the economy to be championed and the government needs to get back to work. I think that definitely played a role in this election in Virginia. And Mike, we got about 20 seconds for you. Do you feel the same way? Yes. Got to fight fire with fire. You got to embrace the populist message. The Democrats did it in New York City, channeling into the base. Why don't conservatives and Republicans do it? Too many people in our party like to play it safe and scared. MAGA is what carries the day. At the end of the day, we need to embrace that to get turnout, to tap into the affordability and the issues that really matter. Still, too much of the Republican Party still isn't doing that. Steve? Yep. All right, Mike. Britt. David, thank you for being here. Good stuff. Appreciate all your hard work and coverage. We'll see how it goes from here. Thanks, guys. Thank you. All right, after the break, I'll bring on Congressman Mark Harris to discuss calls for North Carolina Governor Josh Stein to deploy the National Guard to counter crime in Charlotte. You know, crime continues to be a major issue across the country, mainly in big blue cities, places run by Democrats for years. Take North Carolina and Charlotte, for example, a city run by Democrat Mayor V Viles, now in her fifth term as Charlottesville, she won easily last night. Her soft on crime policies are what have led Charlotte into such turmoil. And apparently voters don't care. Might I remind you that this is the same city where the Ukrainian refugee Irina Zarutska was murdered three months ago by someone with a long history of crime who shouldn't have been on the streets in the first place. Yet justice was served. But that doesn't bring Irina back. We need to prevent these sorts of horrible crimes before they happen. But it doesn't stop there. Gang violence has been an issue for the city as well. It's clear something needs to change. That's why Congressman Mark Harris is stepping in to lead a group of North Carolina lawmakers to demand that Democrat Governor Josh Stein deploy the National Guard to Charlotte to restore law and order. Will he do it? Well, what do you think? Joining me to discuss it is the Congressman, Mark Harris. Thank you, sir, for being here, as always. Look, Charlotte gained a lot of notoriety for all the wrong reasons. Arena Zarutska murdered just for riding home from work. Do you think the governor's listening? Boy, I hope the governor's listening. And thank you so much for having us on today. We sent this letter, Steve, to try to call out to the governor that this is a crisis moment in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the crime situation just continues to Spiral out of control. And really, this really. All right, I see that we have a little bit of an issue here with the congressman. We'll get him reconnected in just a moment. Because this is an issue across the country, whether you talk about crime in New York City, where Mamdani said he's gonna back off on police, where he's gonna get rid of an elite unit that's focusing on terrorism in Chicago, where there have been almost 2,000 people shot and 400 people murdered. Crime in America is an incredible problem across this country. Let's see if we got the congressman back now. Congressman, sorry about that, but obviously, crime in Charlotte is like other places, be it New York, Chicago, Louisiana. Crime in America is of concern to the people that live in these cities. We have to make it better. That's the number one job of government, isn't it? That really is the number one job of government, Steve. And I think that what we are seeing happen here is a call from. From us in the US House to the governor saying, send in the National Guard. A lot of this goes back to what happened, as you said, to Irina Zarutska, which put the spotlight on Charlotte. But when you look at the statistics about how crime has increased in the uptown area, this is something that we feel like could be a short term solution to bring the Guard in. What they did in Washington, D.C. has been amazing. What they've done in Memphis has been amazing. And this really goes back to when we had Vice President Vance in our district back in the end of September, and he was. And after the Zarutska murder about this, and he said if Charlotte wanted the National Guard to come in and the governor were to call for it, the mayor, we would be willing to offer help. The Fraternal Order of Police, our own policemen there in Charlotte have asked the governor to do this. And that's really what precipitated my letter. Sending it in was because a fraternal order of police have said, we need the backup, we need the help. Yeah. Let me shift gears now to crime in Michigan and the thwarted terrorist attack. More people arrested today for what was supposed to be a Halloween slaughter, like the nightclub attack in Paris a few years ago. This was the plan. The FBI were watching these terrorists for several months, since July. I understand this sort of concern is accelerated because we had an open border for four years. Untold millions came into this country. Is the concern the same for members of Congress, for people like yourself? It is a serious concern for the overflow of the border that we continue to See is the reason the Judiciary Committee and the reconciliation bill called for and passed out that we would have 10,000 additional ICE agents to be able to do their work to find these bad guys. And listen, thank God for Cash Patel and. And for the FBI that we have now and the work that they're doing to be able to follow these leads and be able to stop this atrocious action that was right on the cusp of happening. Yeah, we have to be. You know, I give Cash Patel credit. I give the FBI credit. They were following these suspects for an extended period of time. Like I said here just a short while ago, more arrested in that plot that would have targeted the LGBTQ community in Ferndale, Michigan, that is suburban Detroit. One last thing I want to ask you about, Congressman, before we leave today. Proposition 50 passed easily in California yesterday, violating their own state law, violating their own state constitution. I doubt that the Supreme Court in the state of California will blink an eye at it. We'll see what happens. But in North Carolina, you are moving forward with redistricting in response partially to California and others. It looks like you could add an additional Republican seat in the first Congressional District there. Tell me where we are. Well, that has actually passed. It passed the legislature and it is now law. Obviously, the. The left, they're trying to fight it in the courts, and so they have filed a lawsuit and we'll see where that goes. And hopefully it's going to get processed expeditiously and we're going to be able to move on. But we have an early primary in March of next year, and that is already a done deal from the legislature that those redistricting has happened, particularly just affecting District 1 and District 3. But it looks like that we should be able to pick up a seat there. It looks like that some other states might join as well, Indiana, Missouri, and of course, then there's the Supreme Court decision coming down on the Voting Rights Act. That could say that creating district lines based on race is unconstitutional, which would impact seats in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee. It could add 12 seats or more to the Republican side of the aisle. That's incredibly important, too, isn't is? Incredibly important. And one of the other states that I've heard is taking place is Ohio. And I think they actually came to an agreement in Ohio. And it's going to probably end up with an additional two seats in the Republican column as well. But to your point, if that court case comes down in the correct way or the right way, I think you're going to see a floodgate of opportunity there to bring more more seats our way. Congressman, always good talking to you. I appreciate you taking the time today and I hope that the government gets back to work sometime soon. Too many people paying too high of a price. You did your job. Now if the Senate would do their job, the Democrats it is. We can get moving again. Thank you. Thank you, sir. Greatly appreciate it. All right, up after the break. The government shutdown is now the longest in history, 36 days and counting. Democrats continue to hold the federal government hostage. They rejected another chance to open the government yesterday, the 14th time they did it on election Day. More on that coming up. Well, in a press briefing this morning, President Trump said Democrat tactics on the elections were like a kamikaze pilot. Japanese pilots would intentionally crash their planes into US warships back during World War II. This is a highly visual metaphor for the lies Democrats have told over the last 36 days. Blaming Republicans for the Schumer shutdown. Oklahoma Senator Mark Wayne Mullen revealed earlier this week Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer held a backroom meeting prior to the elections. He's the minority leader, by the way, instructing Democrats to continue the shutdown until after yesterday's election. Mullen said Schumer was afraid Democrats wouldn't show up to vote. Trump said he would meet with Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries only after Democrats vote to reopen the government. Here to discuss this, senior director of government affairs at the National Taxpayers Union, Tommy Aiello. Tommy, welcome back to the program. I understand also that there were eight, we'll call them moderate Democrats, Fetterman and some of the others that got together at the Capitol day, eight of them talking about how to end the shutdown. Any traction there? What are you hearing? You know, it's definitely time to end the shutdown. It's been 36 days, the longest in history. I think what the Democrats wanted all along was to keep this through the election, keep their voters energized, that they're pushing back on the Trump administration. And then, of course, to have this headline that it's the longest shutdown in U.S. history under President Trump's leadership. So I think we're actually close to the end of the tunnel here, but we need to be really cautious and keep an eye on what is going on you know, it should be a clean CR to reopen the government and then have these policy debates. I'm concerned that we could be moving in a direction that will attach these Obamacare subsidies for wealthy people and higher spending levels for the appropriations process. So we'll have to see. Yeah, incredibly important. The Democrats. Look, they gave this pretty well. I heard the people. I heard the exit polling. The government shut down. I mean, in Virginia, it's pretty obvious. You've got tens of thousands of people who work for the federal government. They've been furloughed, they haven't been paid. Of course they're gonna vote for the Democrats. But across the country, the government shutdown played well for the Democrats on Election Day, even though the Democrats voted again yesterday to not open the government. I mean, you gotta give them credit. They beat the Republicans on the messaging, didn't they? They did. And it doesn't help Republicans either when they have the media constantly pouting this narrative that it's a Republican shutdown. You know, this reminds me of the debate back in 2013 when the media hammered Republicans for shutting the government down to fix Obamacare. Now here we are in 2025, where it's the complete opposite side of the debate, with Democrats keeping the government hostage and the media can just continue to highlight this narrative that it's Republicans, President Trump keeping the government closed, when they are the ones that are constantly doing their job and trying to keep the government open. And it's having a real impact. There was a study came out last week that said every week the government's closed, we lose. We lose $15 billion worth of economic activity. And unfortunately, this might be what the Democrats want. They. They want this at the end of the day. Yeah, we were talking about this just before you came on. I want to focus on this a little bit more because the whole argument over redistricting could really have impact come 2026, and a lot of states getting involved now, several, in fact. Texas, California, North Carolina, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, all getting into this game. Of course, California Yesterday passed Proposition 50, even though it's in violation of state law and violation of the state constitution. I don't think that the Supreme Court in the state of California is even going to blank at it, but other states, and you just suggested to me that Florida, which is in the process of redistricting, could add three to five Republican seats. That hasn't even been in the conversation yet. So Texas picks up five Republicans, California evens that out, but then you pick up one in North Carolina, one in Missouri, one in Indiana, maybe, maybe one or two in Ohio, but you go plus five in Florida. And then the Supreme Court says you can't gerrymander based on race. Suddenly, the Republicans just picked up 20 seats potentially before November of 2026. This is monumental, isn't it? Yeah, it very much could be. But we have to remember, you know, at the end of the day, these are still voters that are going to vote, whether they're voting for Democrats or Republicans. The exit polls yesterday showed that people care about the economy, they care about the affordability, and they want to be able to afford gas in their car, their rent or their mortgage, and the groceries at the grocery store. So we need to continue to highlight the benefits of what President Trump is doing, whether it's deregulation, the one big beautiful bill, and everything else he's trying to accomplish with deregulation, bringing more investment into the United States at the end of the day. But that's why this is so important, Tommy. Yeah, if he loses the House. If he loses the House, his presidency could effectively be over January 2027 and his entire. I mean, look, the Republicans right now could get rid of the filibuster. They won't. They could move the agenda forward. They don't want to. There's a lot of weak willed, spineless, feckless weasels on the right side of the aisle, if I might be so bold, that are not getting the job done. Where am I wrong? You know, we need to take advantage of the opportunity right now. And look, we could do two. Even if you keep the filibuster intact, you know, we might have some disagreements over that, but you can still do two more reconciliation bills where you don't need Democrats, any Democratic votes. Republicans can do what they want. Now. We should be focusing on ways to continue to cut taxes for working class Americans and bring more business investment to the United States, reining in our runaway government debt, which just passed $38 trillion, that's fueling inflation. And we should do more to increase energy security. Those are all things the American people care about. And we're going to squander this opportunity that we have because we know that won't happen if Democrats retake the House. Well, none of that will happen. You'll end up losing out on voter reform, voter id, ending mail in ballots, protecting the Supreme Court from getting packed and adding two states that nobody seems to want, Puerto Rico and D.C. which is all aimed for one thing, Democrat powers. So I don't know what to do about the filibuster I thought it was a good thing to keep in place, but I believe the Democrats, given the first opportunity, will eliminate it RAM through whatever policy they have. I'll give you the last word. These are all things you need to keep watching and keep a vigilant eye on. Right now we need to focus on getting the government open, telling the story of the one big beautiful bill and how it's impacting working people. And I think if we can tell that good story about how this administration is helping people, I do think voters at the end of the day will reward the party that end up talking about their issues the most. Yeah, there you have it. The tax extension deadline may have just passed. Thank you Tommy for being here. But for millions of Americans, the real trouble is just beginning. Well, gold has settled down just a bit down, just a couple hundred bucks. But in the markets, not as bad as bitcoin, that's for sure. It fell below 100,000 yesterday. Ouch. No doubt a testament to how valuable gold can be, especially when used to diversify your savings. Here with me to discuss, this is precious metals specialist from Birch Gold, Phillip Patrick. Philip, nice to see you again. Good to see you as always, Steve. Well, the government shutdown drags on. We're getting fewer official economic reports. Does that matter when it looks. When it takes time to look at gold and what's going on? Look, I think it matters. We've got a Fed right now that are flying blind. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Census Bureau, Commerce Department, they've all paused data releases, which means no new GDP revisions, no trade data, no jobs report. Last time this happened was back in 2019, but the economy was in different shape. GDP was at 3%, inflation was under control at 2. Today, GDP is running at about 1. Inflation's 50% above their target. So it's kind of like flying a 747 through a storm with the instruments turned off. The Fed and the treasury are guessing at altitude while the debt clock is spinning now over $38 trillion. Investors obviously don't like uncertainty, but policymakers hate it even more. And the concern, I think is when they don't know what's happening, they tend to overreact, whether it's with rate cuts or stimulus, whatever it might be. And that's how policy mistakes can turn into systemic crises. So look, it's no data at a time that we need it really badly to make very important decisions. It's certainly not ideal. And it doesn't help with trust, which is another problem we have at the moment as well. Yeah, here's a number that doesn't lie. Gold is up over 48% year to date, and so that's pretty remarkable. Over 48% in the last 12 months. Pretty impressive. The treasury just announced it's issuing more short term debt and a lot less long term debt and IOUs. Why? Why is that such a big deal? Look, it's a reflection of the situation we're in. On the surface it seems pretty routine, but we've got to remember The Treasury's borrowing 25 to 30 billion dollars a day just to stay open. Shifting from 10 and 30 year debt to three and six month IOUs means they're rolling over this debt faster and faster. It's like trying to remortgage our house every few months. It works in a climate where rates are going down, but it is definitely a risky play. Now, the official excuse is that shorter maturities save interest rates in the near term, which is definitely true, but it's not a lot. The difference between a 13 week loan and 10 year debt is 0.3%, 30 basis points. So we're taking on a ton of risk to save 30% or 30 basis points in interest annually. I think it's a reflection of quite how bad our fiscal situation is. The Treasury's leaning on the short end of the curve because they're trying to drive down longer term borrowing costs for mortgages and other things. But the problem is, if demand weakens globally for our debt, debt service can go up regardless. So like I said, it's a risky move to try and save 0.3% interest annually. It's a reflection of how bad the debt situation is. Yeah, $38 trillion. I always thought, Philip, that about 24, $25 trillion was the point of no return. I'm not convinced now. I was wrong about that. I mean, we are so far gone, we're going to be at $50 trillion of debt. When we blink a couple of times, it just goes on and on and on, doesn't it? You're absolutely right. It's not just a psychological breaking point. We've added $10 trillion of new debt since 2020. For context, that's more debt than we ran up in the nation's first 230 years of existence. I'm including World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, all of it. We've done more than that since 2020. It's sort of a reflection of the scale. But you're right. I felt we're at the point of no return a little while ago, and the numbers seem to suggest it. We got to remember, the interest payment on the Debt annually is $1.2 trillion this year. That's 50% more than defense. It's now the second biggest item in the federal budget. If history shows us anything, it shows us that is the breakpoint Ferguson's Law, which I may have mentioned. Niall Ferguson, a British historian. Every empire in history where debt service has exceeded defense spending has collapsed. So if, if history is any judge, we're in big, big trouble from a debt standpoint. So there you go. Philip. Patrick, always appreciate you being here. Thank you so much. Thank you, Steve. Well, we've passed that, that record breaking point. I don't know if it's good. When the government shut down the longest in history. Little or no reprieve so far, no agreement so far. Even with the looming reality of SNAP benefit recipients going hungry, Democrats, Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries maintain on sticking with the Obamacare subsidies angle and prolonging the shutdown. Democrats often state that Republicans own all branches of government. Statement that speaker of the House Mike Johnson has addressed by reminding the public that it takes 60 votes in the Senate and urging Democrats to come and negotiate. Join me to discuss this. Congresswoman for Texas 24, Beth Van Dyne. Congresswoman, nice to see you today. Great to see you. So you've been in meetings all day long. You're working in Washington today. I did hear that there were eight Democrat senators, including Fetterman and others trying to figure out how to find a path forward to end the shutdown. Are you getting anything there, any indication that that might happen? I mean, I guess the fact that they're willing to meet and they're not bringing A list of $1.5 trillion in demand is a good thing. You know, there's, there's a number of things that we have heard that are kind of rumor mills at this point. You know, they're going to be pushing for a date specific vote to extend the subsidies on the health care premiums from the aca. They're, they're requesting again another vote on maybe like a three minibus plan to be able to extend some of the budget. Those things are all on the table. But again, I think Republicans are holding firm saying this is a ridiculous shutdown. It has been 36 days. People are suffering enough. Democrats have acknowledged it, admit readily that they're using them for leverage. Enough is enough. We are all at work. I mean, as many people are saying that who are on vacation. I will tell you, I have had probably at least 10 meetings already today. I've got more. You know, as soon as we get off this, we are working and we're back in our districts and Times. I'm in D.C. right now, but you know, when I go back to my district, we are working as well. So. But I, by the way, am not getting paid. Congress has an opportunity to, to say no during a shutdown. We don't think that we should get paid. Since our, our fellow brethren in, in the federal government are not, you know, our federal employees are not getting paid. It would be interesting to ask Democrats how many of them are still getting a paycheck during a shutdown that they're voting for. I think they are all, they're all getting paid, aren't they? I mean, it's a separate branch, right. I think everybody gets paid there on that side of the, of the, of the Capitol. While the Democrats voted not to pay tsa, not to pay air traffic controllers, not pay the military, I mean, they voted on this specifically and said no. They voted no yesterday, again for the 14th time to not open the government. Correct. They just not care about poor people. Well, as much as they are hypocrites, because for years now, they have always fought against having a government shut down. This was a gift horse for the Democrats. This was handing them a clean CR for spending levels that they had already supported, had already voted for in the past that Chuck Schumer had supported just a few months ago that they had voted for again. The only difference is now that you've got President Trump in the White House. But these were things that they had voted for time and time again over a dozen times when Biden was in office. So they know that the pain that they're causing. You got air traffic controllers right now they're trying to hold down two jobs while only getting, you know, if they have a separate job to be able to pay the bills. They're not getting a paycheck, you know, for being an air traffic controller. These are distractions that should not be on the thoughts and minds of our military, of our law enforcement officers, but are as a direct result of Democrats who, let's face it, they are doing this only to make, make, get leverage and to make it more possible for them to get more and more power. This is all, at the end of the day, all about power, all about money. And they are, you know, they are holding American folks hostage just as a direct result of this. All they have to do, vote for a clean tenuing resolution. If you want, if you have stuff that you want to debate, come back here and let's debate. But by the way, you know, as much as we're saying the democrats are in D.C. i'm walking around, I see a lot of Republicans here and I have barely seen any Democrats. So let me ask you this. Yesterday's results, the Democrats celebrating the election of Democratic socialists in a number of places and far left progressive candidates in others. Does that embolden them to keep the government closed? Do they think that they're winning the argument because of what happened yesterday? I mean, perhaps a little bit. Look, you got Virginia. That does, what Virginia does is they vote typically against whatever is, you know, whatever party is in the White House. You've got New Jersey that, let's face it, New Jersey is a very blue state. They did what we thought they were going to do. And then you look at some of the other, some of the other races in Virginia and I'll tell you what shocked me was that ag race. You got a guy who threatened to shoot his opponent, who talked about the opponent's children, who by the way, he had met, you know, dying in their mother's arms. And yet you had almost 80% of women who voted for this guy. This is the extreme nature of the candidates that they are supporting. It was, it was, that part was shocking. But I guess if Democrats are going to hold on and see these are the candidates that we're going to support and then they've got constituents who are going to support, support them and vote for them. We can't be surprised about anything that's going on in Washington. Well, let me ask you this because I'm not a mam Danny fan, I think that's fair to say. But he tapped into that same vein of affordability of the forgotten voter that Donald Trump did. It's a different group of them, but they identified with. I hear you. I feel I'm gonna use Bill Clinton. I feel your pain. I understand you're paying too much, you can't afford rent. Donald Trump connected with the middle class voters that way. I think Ma', am, Danny did that with people that are young, that can't pay their rent, they can't figure out how to buy a house. I think that that's a common theme and something the Republicans should pay attention to before the midterms. I'll give you the last word. No, I will. Look, his message is we're going to pay for your health care, we're going to pay for your food, we're going to pay for your college, we're going to pay for your home, we're going to pay for wherever you want to live. Yeah, they can say that. But if a message sounds too good to be true, it's because that message is too good to be true. Somebody has to pay for it at the end of the day. And these crazy policies that are Quote, taxing the rich are forcing the consumers to actually move out of New York. And being a representative from Texas, we're going to get a lot of that benefit. You know, we call it y' all street because we're seeing Wall street is slowly shifting, you know, to. To Texas. When You've got more J.P. morgan employees in Texas now than you have in New York, that financial piece that New York has been known for for decades and decades is coming to Texas. So these policies, I hate to say it, but you know, as New Yorkers, this is what you voted for. This is what you're going to get. But don't be shocked when the people who continue to have to pay for these promises that politicians are making start to leave. Yeah. The governor, by the way, says 100% tariff on those coming to Texas from New York. We'll see if he sticks with that. But good stuff. Congresswoman, thank you so much for being here. Great to see you. Have a great week. Greatly appreciate you, too. After the break, we'll have a story that reminds us of how wonderful this country you're sitting in still is. What makes America wonderful? We do it every day with the hope of putting a smile on your face. All right? It's important, a lot of important things to talk about, but you need to smile. You need to let some of that go sometimes. Today's story comes to us from the coast of Hallandale Beach, Florida, where a good Samaritan, Judson Grosvenor, rescued two men from a 35 foot boat that erupted in flames. You heard me right. Judson stated that he called the US Coast Guard as he raced toward the boat. When he arrived, he spotted and rescued one of the men floating in the water. Once first responders arrived, Judson jumped off his boat and swam to find the second guy in an effort to help the Coast Guard rescue all the passengers that were missing. The two men were safely taken to shore. No signs of any injuries. Judge and said, and I quote, yeah, mariners look out for each other. I'm sure the other boat would have done the same thing. What if we hadn't come? What if we didn't official stated that the incident now under investigation. It warms my heart to know that there are good God fearing people willing to put their lives on the line and order to save others. I don't know about you, but that's one Florida man I would not mind having as a neighbor. People like Judson who jump into action at a moment's notice to help others remind us of what truly makes America wonderful. And of course we can't forget about the brave men and women serving in the United States Coast Guard who came to the rescue as well. We tip our hats to them. Here's your question of the day. Considering the outcome of yesterday's elections, are you Concerned for the 26 midterms? Joe Digiam Paulo Republicans are in trouble. We need some good candidates to step up. The Democrats are coming hard. Jesse Sutherland I would hope people will have a reference point for electing their officials in the coming months. Can a socialist make life better? Will those who voted against the will or be hurt or punished? Not sure what that means. Big money still buys elections. Barbara Ann of course. Scary thought. And Republicans need to grow some. Joel Lamonica not at all. The Democrats and Prop 50 all won in very deep blue states. Any other outcome would have been disastrous for them. For the Democrats to celebrate winning in their own deep state speaks volumes how bad they know it is. And the fact that they were even worried in New Jersey and Virginia speaks to that. And Dr. Headwound, my good old friend, Dr. Headwind New Yorkers been supporting tens of thousands of Venezuelan immigrants who fled their homes due to socialism only to elect a socialist mayor. Truly pathetic truth to that, by the way. If you want to be part of the question of the day, just follow me on any of the social media platforms. You can also send me an email@stevegruber.com Tell your friends. Gather around the campfire. Speaking of gathering around the campfire, I've got bowling standing by right now to join the fun. Bowling. How are you? Real well Steve. Very, very well. How are you this fine Wednesday? It's Wednesday. Yeah. How are you doing? Other than the fact that socialism is creeping across our country from New York to Minneapolis on West Coast, Gavin Newsom thinks he can have his way with the Constitution. So other than that, pretty darn good. You? Yeah. California. Ignore the law, Violate your own Constitution. The Supreme Court in California will look the other way. They don't care. Oh, but Minneapolis. Thankfully the socialists didn't win. Good progressive guy who's been there for a while. Steve. Good thing In Virginia, the good people of Virginia elected not the guy who wanted to kill his political opponent opponent and his family, but the, the incumbent irs. Oops, sorry, that didn't work out either for the good team, the home team did it. Scary? No. But I'll give Minneapolis the only thing I'm looking for, a silver lining. Minneapolis. Maybe Seattle ignored those hard left socialist candidates. Two cities look. For now, for now, Democrat. Well, for now, it is metastasizing. There's no question, Eric, it's metastasizing in places. And we invited more. It's like, it's like say the doctor saying, hey, look, you know, you're really susceptible to the skin cancer. In fact, you have a little suspicious things over there. You may want to stay out of the sun. And people in New York and in Minneapolis and Virginia and California are like, put on some baby oil and let's go out in the sun lamp and go sit in the sun somewhere. Because let's bring it in. We're going to lose this country, you know. There's not going to be Donald Trump forever. It's very scary that they call it socialism. Creepy. I, it's, it's beyond creep now. It's, it's worse than slow moving lava. It's, it's a, it's becoming an avalanche. I'm sorry. Well, the only hope as far as New York goes is that it becomes a petri dish. An example of what that failure looks like. I, I, we can't make America great without our great cities. A big show. Here's what's happening. Here's what's happening. I lived in New York long enough. Gruber and guests critique the Democratic party’s influence in urban areas, express frustration at Republican messaging weaknesses, and warn of the doubling-down of left-leaning policies amidst American frustrations over crime, affordability, and government effectiveness. While focusing mainly on right-of-center perspectives, there are consistent calls for practical populism, economic focus, and renewed engagement with the issues of working-class Americans. The episode closes with reminders of American decency and resilience, even as the political commentary takes a more dire tone about the country’s future direction.
