David Zier
Hello everybody. I'm David Zier. You're watching Breaking Point on Real America's Voice News. We're on the ground and North Carolina. We traveled about 1500 miles crisscrossing the state here. My cameraman Brandon Jarvis. So many incredible things going on here. We sat down with Michael Watley, which I have later in the show, the former RNC chair and U.S. senate candidate for the midterms. Very important race. Another very important race here in the 1st district with Democrat Don Davis and probably Laurie Buckow, who's going to challenge him again. And the court upheld these maps and it's probably going to flip red North Carolina front and center. And then we were at the Freedom 250 event with Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy at the Revolution Academy for this mobile museum kickoff. I got great footage of it. They'll be touring the country. It's just an incredible thing that they're doing to educate our kids about American history and our founding fathers. And then we'll be at Fort Bragg also, and we'll be with the 18th Airborne Corps, which could get called up if the Insurrection act is invoked. And we're on the ground here in North Carolina. Thank you so much for joining us here. You're watching Breaking Point. I'm David Zier. We're on the ground in Summerfield, North Carolina for the 250 Freedoms Mobile Museum nationwide kickoff. We're at the Revolution Academy here, a charter school where our kids are learning sound principles and values. Hundreds of families gathered here on the ground where Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy spoke here along with the Undersecretary of Labor Keith Sonderling. Prageru Kids Hillsdale College. And they gathered here because behind us is the Freedom Truck. And this truck will be touring the country, one of six trucks that have a museum inside dedicated to the founding fathers and the founding principles of the United States developed right here in in North Carolina by Spevko at the urging of President Donald Trump in anticipation of the America 250th anniversary on July 4th of 2026 here. And this museum was toured by the families and the children who go to the school here. They absolutely loved it. And it's jam packed with information about our founding fathers provided by Hillsdale College and Prageru Kids. This is a cornerstone for the America 250 celebration once again, Freedom 250's kickoff of the mobile museum tour going nationwide with six trucks across the land. I'm David Zia for real America's Voice News on the ground in Summerfield, North Carolina for the 250 Freedom Mobile Museum kickoff here. And we're with the principal of the Revolution Academy, Michelle Harris. How are you?
Michelle Harris
I'm fine, thank you.
David Zier
This is a great day here for you and your students, right?
Michelle Harris
Yes. Very excited to host over a thousand community members at the inaugural launch of the truck.
David Zier
That's great. And we're waiting for Secretary Duffy transportation and there's some great speakers on the ground here today. What does this mean to your students? It's a good time to be youth in America with the 250th anniversary of the United States. I was at the Statue of Liberty in 76 for the bicentennial and it was spectacular year ahead, right?
Michelle Harris
Yes, it is. It's very spectacular. And we're excited that we are the first to launch this and it is important to our school because we are a back to basics school and we teach American history kindergarten through currently 10th grade. And we will continue that through.
David Zier
And you have plans to expand, I hear we do.
Michelle Harris
We have plans to expand through 12th grade by the year 2027. We started in 2020 with a kindergarten through 6th grade and now we're a kindergarten through 10th grade.
David Zier
Now your mission also is to educate your students and to be great young adults, but also to show what America's about and to be patriots. Right?
Michelle Harris
That is Correct? Yes. Yes.
David Zier
Okay. So what do you think compared to your curriculum and what you teach here and the values versus other schools? I'm from New York. They don't have that patriotic agenda in most of our public schools. What separates the Revolution Academy from the rest?
Michelle Harris
I believe that what separates us from the rest is that we teach a classical based curriculum. We believe in paper, pencil. We don't use technology. Our students are not one to one Chromebooks. And we leave cell phones out of the classroom. And so our students are interactive with the teachers and they learn our history and it repeats it throughout several grade levels so that they get a deeper understanding as they grow older.
David Zier
And a family. Family values coincide with all this. Right. And the importance of family. And does faith play a role in the school as well?
Michelle Harris
We are a public charter school, so we do have our history, our American history, and we teach that throughout all of the grade levels.
David Zier
Yes. Are the students going to tour the museum today?
Michelle Harris
The students have already been touring the museum.
Michael Whatley
Great.
David Zier
What did they say? What was their response?
Michelle Harris
They were excited. They came back into the school and they were, you know, telling me all about it, how they had the interactive pieces and things that they learn in the classroom, they're seeing here in the trucks. And that just brings it home to them.
David Zier
Yeah. And this is the Cornerstone of the 250 Freedom Tour across America here. Really important, right? Not just the founding Fathers, the Declaration of Independence, Paul Revere's ride, but also Valley Forge. Troops were starving and it was cold, and General Washington got us through that. So that's an aspect that's important for our kids to know about our country. Right?
Michelle Harris
Absolutely. Absolutely. Yep.
David Zier
All right. All right. Well, I want to thank you so much for joining us today. Michelle Harris, the principal of the Revolution Academy here in Summerfield, North Carolina. Great place, great staff, great children, very excited to be here on the ground for Freedom250.
Michelle Harris
Thank you so much for having us.

Welcome back everybody. You're watching Breaking Point. Unreal America's Voice News. We're on the ground here in North Carolina, crisscrossing the state. I got a great inter Michael Whatley running for the US Senate. Later in the show, we were at the Revolution Academy with Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy for the kickoff, the nationwide kickoff of these six mobile museums. I've got great footage. I got super interviews with these kids K through 8. You're going to love it. And so much going on. So much going on in Minneapolis, right? You know Don Lemon and these agitators walk into the church. They wouldn't do that at my church because they would not get away with it. I'll tell you that right now. We would not stand stand for that. But they went after this pastor just because he was ice. And these schools. Shame on the Minneapolis school system for letting these kids off in protest to ice. They're being taught to hate Trump, to hate ice. Meanwhile, ICE is getting rid of the most heinous criminals in the United States and murder rates have gone down. And crime rates have gone down like 20 to 40% in many major cities just since Trump took office. It's pretty incredible. And the trend was downwards a little bit already. But think about all the deaths he prevented from fentanyl overdoses and all that other stuff. Since he is the president again, it's gotta be thousands and thousands and thousands of people. Will he get credit? And Matt Crone wearing those sunglasses at the World Economic Forum. You know, I don't really think he had a hemorrhage in his eye. I think he was trying to. He was hanging his head in shame because a European YouGov poll came out and showed that he has a 79% unfavorability RA, which is incredible. His first place. Second was Keir Starmer with 76%. But among all European leaders, Macron has the lowest favorability rating out there. So I hope you enjoy the show today. We've got some great interviews and thank you for watching Breaking Point.
George Washington Voice Actor
War is a terrible thing, but sometimes it is necessary. Such was our war of independence. I bear the sorrow of every life lost, each brave heart that gave all to the glorious cause. Their sacrifice birthed not just a new nation, but a torch of liberty that continues to illuminate the world. Time moves forward and every generation faces its own trial. Though the challenges differ, the question remains the same. Are you willing to pledge your lives, your fortunes, and your sacred honor for the American cause? We did, and many others have as well.
David Zier
This young gentleman asked if I am on the news. How are you?
Michelle Harris
Good.

Various Students and Parents
So I have an older one that's in public school.

David Zier
Thanks for watching real America's Voice news. I've got more interviews with the great kids of the Revolution Academy in Summerfield, North Carolina. Man, these kids are awesome. They're learning about finance and family values in school. You know, the public school system is not doing that for our children these days. But I got great interviews with the director of outreach for Prageru Kids. And I've got Matt Spalding, Dr. Matt Spalding, Constitutional scholar from Hillsdale College, helped develop the content for these mobile museums to educate our children on our founding fathers.
George Washington Voice Actor
My friends and fellow citizens, welcome. My name is George Washington. You may have heard of me. Island of country through the crucible of revolution, as its first general, oversaw the formation of his constitution and then served as America's first president.
David Zier
The freedom trucks are rolling out here in Summerfield, North Carolina. And we have Jill Simonian, the director of outreach for Prageru Kids, Right? Yes.
Various Students and Parents
Yes.
David Zier
What a great day.
Jill Simonian
It is a beautiful day. So exciting.
David Zier
So we're at the Revolution Academy here charter school. And these kids are like being set on the right path, it seems, learning history. You got these incredible freedom trucks. Six of them will be touring the country. This is the kickoff, right?
Jill Simonian
Yes, this is the kickoff. This is actually the debut of what is actually inside of these trucks, which is an incredible Interactive multimedia museum where you can see the timeline of America's founding. You see George Washington come to life. You see American heroes. You could take interactive quizzes about how much you know or how little you know about the revolution. This is the first time that people have been able to see what's inside.
David Zier
And it's a Cornerstone of the Freedom 250 movement. The 250th anniversary. Anniversary of the founding principles of the United States. Right?
Jill Simonian
Absolutely. Absolutely. We like to say at Prageru kids that if we do not teach our children our history and teach what should be taught, that they should know that there are battles and sacrifice and historical figures that had to do, you know, incredible things that not many of us would do today. We would not have a country. And they need to know what it took to have the freedoms and the liberty that we have.
David Zier
So many things. Freezing, starving, soldiers in Valley Forge. And we kept it together and found a way through, and that means a lot. Do you think enough kids in America are being taught that these days in our schools?
Jill Simonian
Unfortunately, I don't think so. In fact, I know they're not. And that's one of the reasons why we actually launched pragerukids.com five years ago, because our history was not being taught. And the only thing that was being taught in the last several years was through a lens, historically, was through a lens that America is a place of oppressors, which is. Listen, America is not perfect. We've had our faults, but we've fought civil wars to overcome some of the worst things that have happened in our nation. And our children need to know those triumphs and. And that we're always working towards a better union and have pride.
David Zier
And there's no other country that had the type of founding that we had. Right. The American experiment made us the greatest nation on earth.
Jill Simonian
Absolutely. Absolutely. Our founders were flawed men. They were brilliant men who came up with a system of government that really is incomparable to any other form of government, to allow for the liberties that we have.
David Zier
So tell us a little bit about Pragerus kids. What's your mission?
Jill Simonian
So, our mission is for every family, every school to watch our videos, to enjoy our books, to understand the history of America, our system of government, civics. We have videos for financial literacy. We believe in loving America through our imperfections. We believe in knowing that. Knowing that America is the most blessed country.
David Zier
You know, I spoke to the kids here, you know, first graders, fifth graders, excellent people, great parents here, chose to send their kids to school here. Yeah, you know, I spoke to a woman whose husband's deployed overseas. Wow. And it's good to know that there's schools like this with the kids of the soldiers that are serving our country.
Jill Simonian
Absolutely. And it's because of parents and educators who understand that there's a lot not being taught in schools that should be taught, that are starting wonderful schools like this. And it gives me a lot of hope. And the educational choice and freedoms for people who want to learn the true history of the United States is very real, and it's a movement that's growing, and we're so thankful to be able.
David Zier
To serve well, great people on the ground here in Summerfield, North Carolina. Jill Simone and Director of Outreach Prager, you kids.
Michelle Harris
Yes.
David Zier
Thank you for joining us today.
Jill Simonian
Thank you so much.
David Zier
All right, we'll see you on the road.
Michael Whatley
Yes.
David Zier
We have the honor of being here with Dr. Matt Spalding, Constitutional scholar, Hillsdale College. Great day today.
Dr. Matt Spalding
Great day. Wonderful to be here. Gosh, it's one of. In this truck.
David Zier
How great are these families here at the Revolution Academy in Summerfield, North Carolina.
Dr. Matt Spalding
It's fabulous. The kids are wonderful. Having. Having a great time. This Freedom truck is made for students like that. It's for young people to come in and get this experience.
David Zier
Yeah. Pretty amazing. You were talking in your speech how you jumped at the chance to tell the story of America. Why did you get involved with Freedom 250 and the truck? Freedom. The Freedom trucks.
Dr. Matt Spalding
I was in middle school in 1976. I remember the tall ships. I remember the parades and the fireworks. I remember the freedom train came through. And so that sparked my own interest, my own love of history, my love of country. And so when the opportunity came up, as an academic advisor to help write that story for these trucks, I jumped at the opportunity. The idea of being able to tell that story and spark that interest in our students today, it's just an amazing possibility when you think about what the fruit of that.
David Zier
Yeah, it's amazing. I remember being in the Statue of Liberty during the bicentennial. So how great is it that these kids here who are learning history, they're learning financial responsibility in a place like this right at a young age, that they get to experience America's 250th anniversary this year? Oh, no. It's. It's.
Dr. Matt Spalding
It's.
David Zier
It's. It's. It's.
Dr. Matt Spalding
It's a phenomenally unique opportunity. But this will be kind of once in their lifetime when they have the opportunity for something like this to happen, and they're going to remember it. And this is going to be, you know, emblazoned in their memories, and they're going to learn something on top of everything.
David Zier
We need more of that. There's not, you know, as many schools like this across the country, you think our kids are being cheated out of learning the real history of the United States, that we. The founding principles and what made us great?
Dr. Matt Spalding
Well, look, this is the problem in so many schools. They're just being. Our students are being robbed of their heritage. They're not learning it. If they're learning it, they're learning it in kind of these jaded ways, certain histories not being told. We got to tell the story. Students want to hear that story young. They're. They're curious. They want to know the story. You tell the story. Story, warts and all. And it's schools like this where they're still trying to recover that sense of education, of liberating the mind that is such a fertile ground for this story, that that's where America is.
David Zier
The sacrifices that were made and the life and death in the American Revolution, right?
Dr. Matt Spalding
Oh, absolutely. It's amazing what these guys did. When you think about the signers of the Declaration, I mean, their homes were burned down, their property was taken. Their own children, in many cases, were killed and tortured. What they went through to establish this country. And George Washington led a ragtag militia to beat England, which was the greatest power in the world at the time. And here we are today. Where we are today is because of what they did.
David Zier
And I want to give you the last word on what was the involvement at Hillsdale College in this incredible exhibit. And there's so much jam packed into these freedom trucks.
Dr. Matt Spalding
Well, the role we played, and I played in particular, was how do you tell the story and capture this story from the beginnings through American history and then end with this idea about these heroes. How do you capture, in a very small, small space, tell the narrative and make sure it's historically accurate in the right story?
David Zier
And it sticks.
Dr. Matt Spalding
And. And it sticks. That's what. That's what we focused on.
David Zier
Everybody out. Dr. Matt Spalding, Hillsdale College. Thank you for all your hard work.
Dr. Matt Spalding
Thank you. Great being with you.
David Zier
All right, get united.
George Washington Voice Actor
Despite our differences, we agreed on one fundamental truth. That our rights are a gift from God, not a favor from kings or cult. The crown had its fleets and its cannon. Island country through the crucible of revolution as its first general oversaw the formation of its constitution and then served as America's first president. Your presence here today honors all simply and when the British crown sought to strip away our freedoms.
David Zier
How are you today?
Various Students and Parents
I'm doing good.
David Zier
That's good. What's your name?
Michelle Harris
Michelle.
David Zier
Are these your children around you?

Various Students and Parents
Oh, yeah.
David Zier
Yeah. You learn about our founding Fathers.
Michael Whatley
Yeah.
David Zier
Do you know what the Declaration of Independence is? Right. We declared our independence from Great Britain. Right. How about the Constitution? Do you learn anything about that? The Bill of Rights?
Various Students and Parents
Yeah, a little bit. Yeah.
David Zier
All right, that's good. Why do you send your, your child here to Revolution Academy?
Various Students and Parents
Just because it's not. It's more of a.
David Zier
Grounded.
Various Students and Parents
Grounded, yes. And I like the value.
David Zier
Family oriented.
Michael Whatley
Yeah.
Various Students and Parents
Yes, very family oriented. We like their morals.
Michael Whatley
They.
Various Students and Parents
They teach a more moral than more political.
David Zier
Yeah. I heard the kids are learning about finance here and a lot of great things here to be a good, good citizen. Yeah. Do you think enough schools in America embrace the principles that the Revolution Academy does?
Various Students and Parents
No, not at all. Yeah, which is why we sent her here.
David Zier
Yeah. That's great. What's your favorite, favorite part about school here?
Various Students and Parents
I really like learning about history.
David Zier
Oh, that's great. That's awesome. Very, very cool. How about you?
Various Students and Parents
Same thing that she said. And I like opportunities that it brings.
David Zier
Do you play any sports or instruments or anything? No. Okay. What's your favorite hobby?
Various Students and Parents
I like to draw.
David Zier
Oh, you like to draw. Wow, that's great. What do you like to draw?
Various Students and Parents
People? Sometimes. Animals?
Michael Whatley
Yeah.
David Zier
Oh, that's great. We're going to see see you work in the future, I'm sure. And what do you like to do? You have any hobbies?
Various Students and Parents
I like reading.
David Zier
You like reading? What's your favorite books?
Various Students and Parents
I like the Hunger Games.
David Zier
Oh, you like Hunger Games? There's a new one out, right? I saw that on like Hulu or something, right?
Various Students and Parents
Yeah, I watched it.
David Zier
All right, all right. Excellent, excellent. Well, more great kids here at Revolution Academy and thank you for joining us. No problem. Thank you. Appreciate that. Don't go anywhere. We'll be right back with more Breaking Point on real America's Voice News.

David Zier
Welcome back to Breaking Point Unreal. America's Voice News. We're here in North Carolina, and I had a chance to sit down with Michael Watley, the former RNC chair and candidate for the U.S. senate in a critical race in North Carolina. And we got House race down here in the first district. May go red. Very important North Carolina this election cycle. Check it out. We're so fortunate to have with us tonight here in Charlotte, North Carolina, a U.S. senate candidate, former RNC chair Michael Whatley. How have you been? How are you?
Michael Whatley
Good. We've been very busy, but it's a great way to start off the new year.
David Zier
It is. It is a big storm coming our way. Right. What do you think? Is North Carolina prepared?
Michael Whatley
No, I think, you know, and what we really want is for everybody to be safe. You know, what we're talking about is that winter weather, which, you know, North Carolina, we get once every few years. But, you know, we just really want to make sure everybody's going to be okay.
David Zier
So you have a hot race going on. Right. And you were the RNC chair. We covered the Milwaukee GOP convention. A lot of unity there last year. It was really an amazing thing to watch. And the battleground states swinging for Trump. And we'll get into some of the reasons for that. How does that compare to where the Republican Party sits today?
Michael Whatley
You know, President Trump is the great unifier. And. And really, truly, what he's done to remake the Republican Party is so important. You know, we are the party of the working class. We are. We are working every day, you know, for the working men and women of this country at every level. Right. You know, and when you think about what was it that President Trump ran on, you know, is rebuild this economy so that it works for every family, for every community, you know, keep our borders. Right. And also to make sure that America is going to be respected again. You know, that translates into every family and every community.
David Zier
Yeah. And as the economy improves, North Carolina has a good economy, but as the national economy grows, continues to grow. I think people see that. Will it be fast enough in time for the midterms? The House is vulnerable. The poll showing plus 4, plus 6 of the Dems, maybe. And the Senate, you can only afford to lose three or four seats. Right. Tell us about what's going on.
Michael Whatley
Well, what we need to do is make sure that we have government policies that are going to create jobs, raise wages, and lower costs. That's what President Trump is fighting for every single day. And Congress and the Senate as well. You know, you think about the One big, beautiful bill. And the great work that it did with the tax cuts, extending Trump's middle class, tax cuts, no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security. You know, those are going to be tremendous factors.
David Zier
There's almost too much to talk about in the bill. Right. Like a lot of the stuff people don't even know about.
Michael Whatley
Absolutely. You know, but the one thing that you do know, right, is that that 700,000 jobs in the private sector have been created since President Trump took over. Real wages are up 4.5%. We're seeing GDP growth at 4.4% in the fourth quarter. You know, so. So the economy is definitely moving. The fact that they got that bill done last, you know, July, as opposed to waiting until December, really, really important, because it's going to give time for the traction on the economy.
David Zier
I was at the White House for that signing July 4th. It was an incredible moment in our history. So I covered the races here in 2020, 2024 congressional races, the presidential elections here. One thing that really struck me, which translated in some other states, but you have a unique situation. Unaffiliated voters, 37% of the population were unaffiliated two years ago. Now it's 39. But only 30% of Republicans here. You finally surpassed the Democrats. 200,000 more Republican voters in 2024. 400,000 less Democratic voters. How will that translate? This year, 47% of those unaffiliated are under 35 years old.
Michael Whatley
Right.
David Zier
How do you capture that vote for your Senate?
Michael Whatley
You know, it really comes down to making sure that you are communicating. You are talking with every single family, you're talking with every single community. You know, President Trump won the unaffiliated vote overwhelmingly last cycle, which is why he had as strong a margin as he did. But you, you cannot win with just Republican votes. Democrats can't win with just Democrat votes. You know, with us being 30% Republican, 30% Democrat, 40% unaffiliated, you really, truly have to make sure that you're out there talking about, again, the economic policies that are going to work for our small businesses, our manufacturers and our farmers, that we're going to keep our kids and our communities safe. You know, the number one function of any government, whether it's federal government, state government, local government, is protecting its citizens. And that is an issue that really matters with those unaffiliated voters.
David Zier
So you are only 4% unaffiliated in 1977. Now it's almost 40% of the vote, but you have an open Primary system. Right. The GOP opened it up, then the Democrats did. Right. So that benefits the Republican Party more, right?
Michael Whatley
Well, it really does. What happens in an open primary is, is that that people can, can pull a poll, either ballot for the Republicans or the Democrats. That is, you know, state law here in North Carolina. You know, and really what we want to do is play with the rules as they are written. Right? We have an early vote of 17 days. We have absentee vote by mail. We have, you know, the open primary season. We know the rules in advance. We're going to go compete and we're going to go do that.
David Zier
And voter ID laws, now we do.
Michael Whatley
Thankfully have voter ID law. It's very, very important that we were able to get that put into place.
David Zier
I remember the night before the election, the Trump camp shared with me some early voting numbers and women stayed home because there was probably an enthusiasm gap for Kamala. 154,000 or so women stayed home. 16% of black males stayed home. And the 2% increase in the western Carolina helped push Trump over the top. So do you think that this year that the same thing will happen? Will, will Democrat women come out more or do you see the same trend?
Michael Whatley
Well, look, I think when, when we look at this election cycle versus 2024, the issue sets are exactly the same, right? It's about affordability. Like we were talking about grocery prices and gasoline prices and housing prices. You know, we were talking about inflation being out of control. And now we're dealing with the same sets of issues, right? When we talk about rebuilding, you know, our economy and making sure that it's working, that's, that's going to be tremendously important for us. The crime issues are tremendously important for us. So really, truly the same sets of issues Republicans are running on what President Trump ran on. Now the Democrats, it's interesting because they are still running on the same issues that they ran on in 2024. Right? Open borders, inflationary spending awoke weak America that the voters did not buy in 24. They are doubling down on it right now. And that's the same issue sets they want in 26.
David Zier
Yeah. In Charlotte City Council's Democrat. All the Democrat cities have higher crime rates here. And so that incredible murder on the tram, Right? Just unbelievable.
Michael Whatley
It really is. You know, and Roy Cooper, you know, created this, this tidal wave of crime when he issued an executive order in 2020 to reimagine law enforcement. Right. He created cashless bail and pretrial release, brought those to North Carolina and really ushered in an era where we have a revolving door where criminals are being arrested and then they're processed and put right back out on the street. We have a campaign that we run, digital campaign called Mugshot Mondays. Right. And so what we're talking about every week are criminals who've been arrested 20, 30, 40, even 50 times or more and put back on the streets because of Roy Cooper, soft on crime policies.
David Zier
Wow. Incredible. The Hispanic vote went 50% for Donald Trump in 2024. He increased it from 2016 and 2020. Do you think that trend will continue here in the US Senate race?
Michael Whatley
We certainly hope so. Right. And the thing is that if you look at Hispanic voters, you look at black voters, Asian American voters. In the campaign with President Trump, we didn't go out and put together specific agendas for any of those groups. What we talked about was the same fundamental issue sets, right. Making sure that we're creating jobs, making sure that we're raising wages, making sure that we're bringing down cost, making sure that you have the ability to get married, buy a home and raise a family. You know, those are issue sets that work with every minority group. And we're going to continue.
David Zier
Yeah. And you have jobs here. The, the, you know, Greensboro, up in Winston Salem, you got these incredible tech parks, the research triangle. There's a lot of jobs and opportunity. It's still hard, though, at five and a half percent to get a mortgage. Right?
Michael Whatley
Well, you're absolutely right. And Jerome Powell, you know, shameless in terms of his opposition to bringing down the rates, keeps talking about inflation that's going to be caused by the president's trade policies. There is no inflation. Inflation has fallen off a cliff since President Trump came in. We need to get those interest rates down and allow folks to get into homes.
David Zier
Okay. I just wanted to ask you about Western Carolina, the devastation from Helene. Right. Where does that stand and getting people back on track. Sure.
Michael Whatley
You know, it was almost exactly a year ago that President Trump, on his first trip since being sworn in, came down to North Carolina, surveyed the damage and announced that he was going to do everything that he could to help get relief to North Carolina. Asked me to help in terms of bringing in that relief. We've seen over $8 billion that has been brought into western North Carolina. Roads have been rebuilt, bridges have been rebuilt, wastewater systems and water treatment facilities are up and running. The Blue Ridge Parkway has been rebuilt and debris has been removed. Now, we're not ready to hang out a mission accomplished sign yet. But, but President Trump and his administration have brought More relief to North Carolina as a result of Hurricane Helene than any other.
David Zier
You mentioned a number of 8 billion.
Michael Whatley
Yeah.
David Zier
Dollars have been released so far.
Michael Whatley
Yes.
David Zier
Okay, last question. So you have a unique situation here, too, where 10 of your 14 seats are Republican. You gained three seats in the last election in the House, and now you have Don Davis in the first District vulnerable. The courts upheld redistricting. So you're confident the first District will go red?
Michael Whatley
Yeah, we feel very good about it. You know, we've seen a trend in northeast North Carolina towards the Republicans that has been very consistent over the last several election cycles. Very important for us to be able to win that seat. Really, the majority in Congress could be hanging on what happens here. But, yeah, with redistricting, we feel very good we're going to be able to take that seat.
David Zier
All right, well, everybody, Michael Whatley, running for U.S. senate, former RNC chair. You have a very strong political machine here in North Carolina for the Republicans, Right?
Michael Whatley
Yeah. No, we feel very good about the state party. Jason Simmons, our chairman, who had worked with me when I was the state party chair, is doing an absolutely fantastic job. Obviously, the. The White House political apparatus, the nrsc, the nrcc, you know, Richard Hudson, who's the chair of the. Of the Congressional Committee from North Carolina as well. So, yeah, we do have a great machine down here, and we're really excited about 2026.
David Zier
All right, well, I really appreciate you taking the time. Brace for the weather. It's a pleasure to see you again.
Michael Whatley
Yes, sir.
David Zier
And good luck on the campaign trip.
Michael Whatley
Thank you. Appreciate it.
David Zier
