Good evening America. Happy Friday, or Happy Boxing Day as it's known, the day after Christmas in many parts of the world. Welcome to the latest edition of Just THE News. No noise. You had a great Christmas yesterday. I know I did. I'm your host John Solomon reporting to you as always from the Nation's capital, Washington, D.C. tonight we are going to lean into what is on the legislative agenda for Congress in 2026. And I'm going to waste no time bringing in my co host Amanda Head tonight because recently she sat down with several members of Congress and women from the Republican Study Conference. We're going to play those interviews over the next hour. Amanda, A lot of big ideas on the agenda 26. Typically an off election or in an off election year, legislative stuff grinds to a halt because everybody's focused on campaigning. I think you picked up that most members of Congress have big plans for next year, not just campaign.
Amanda Head
Absolutely. And one of those big agenda items represents the first time that Republicans have a formidable answer to Democrats lean towards Medicare for all. And we've actually got a story coming out on the site about this. So everybody make sure you go to justthenews.com and look for the story. But Democrats have been pushing for Medicare for all. It's what you know, you and I have spoken to Congresswoman Marionette Miller Meeks and a number of other officials, including the ones that we're going to talk to today about how that basically was what Obamacare was. It was a push towards a single payer system system, Obamacare for all. And this is the first time that Republicans have actually had some, some usable solutions and fixes and alternatives to what Democrats are trying to do. So I loved these conversations. I was able to really glean some of those specific fixes to Obamacare. So people are going to learn a lot about that. And that's going to be something that going into midterms that will put a huge, huge amount of win in the sales of Republicans who are trying desperately to keep that majority.
John Solomon
Yeah, that's going to be fun. I can't wait to watch some of these interviews. I know how good they are. Before we do that, I want to just talk about one thing that happened just before Christmas. It's still resonating today. Senate Secretary of State Marco Rubio sanctioning members of Europe, European governments who were involved in nonprofits who are involved in censoring Americans in Westerns free speech. We got a glimpse of this last summer when J.D. vance went to Europe and gave that speech stinging speech rebuking Europe from turning from its Western values of freedom. But this is going to be a significant humiliation. There will be members of Europe who will not be able to come to the United States because they were involved in what Marco Rubio called the industrial censorship complex. We've been chronicling that complex for two or three years here with Mike, Ben and others. But Europe got quite a swat on the fannie the last couple of days.
Amanda Head
And deservedly so, John, because as we have seen in recent years, free speech in the UK and Europe in general has been contracting as it is expanding here in this country. And another update right before Christmas that we got Samantha Fulnacki, who was is a student at the University of Oklahoma. She received a 0 out of 25 on a paper. Of course her professor was non gender conforming and she received a 0 out of 25 because she cited the Bible as proof that there are only two genders. Well, University of Oklahoma put out a statement and they said based on an examination of the graduate teaching assistant's prior grading standards and patterns as well as the graduate teaching assistant's own statements related to this matter, it was determined that the graduate teaching assistant was arbitrary in the grading of this specific paper. The graduate teaching assistant will no longer have instructional duties at the university. So you see a tale of two regions of the world, the United States, where free speech is still alive and you can use the Bible to defend your opinion. And places like the UK and Europe where things are shrinking and it's very, very scary. And we, you know, we spoke to Liz Truss about this. It's terrifying to see what's happening there and we do not want that coming to our shores.
John Solomon
Yeah, no, there's no doubt about it. And the surest way to make sure it doesn't is to create consequences. And that's what Marco Rubio did. That's what the Oklahoma University system. Then you got to create consequences. We'll see if Pam Bondi does it. The Justice Department for weaponization in 26. I think that's one of the things that a lot of members of Congress are wondering about. All right, Amanda, you had amazing interviews. I think you kick off with one of our favorites is a former Marine, a emergency room doctor and now one of the most important voices in Congress, Congressman Rich McCormick from the Great state of Georgia. I think you talked about healthcare.
Amanda Head
Have a watch here with someone who is on our show all the time, Congressman Rich McCormick. Sir, thank you so much for being here.
Congressman Troy Downing
My pleasure.
Amanda Head
All right. So you are a medical doctor yourself. ER doctor. So you have a great overall perspective on the health care system. What worked before Obamacare, what can possibly work now? I know that there are so many problems and it's really hard to tackle all of them, but I think that you probably have an expertise in this matter. So what do you want to see happen to our health care system system?
Congressman Rich McCormick
First of all, we need more competition, less regulation. What's driven Obamacare to be so bad is the lack of any accountability. The insurance companies, even if the surprise billing act, right. Which has been horribly abused, insurance companies still do the same thing. As matter of fact, on the pre approval process, they promised us one thing in my office recently, within the last year, they said, oh, we're going to fix that. We're no longer they promised the president they're going to do that. But you know what they're doing now? They're literally saying, okay, I'll approve that. And then when the biopsy comes back negative on that pre approved process, they're like, well, obviously you didn't need that because it was negative. Therefore we're going to deny your claim. Is that crazy? And they do it over and over again. This bad actors, these people who a third of the time deny your claim. This is after I have hundreds of millions of dollars spent per hospital system on an electronic medical record system. I have a coder, I have a scribe. I spent hours after my shift. And they still deny it a third of the time with no, no consequence. So what does that mean? That means that they get away with murder. Your insurance premiums have gone up around 90% since the affordable Care Act. Meanwhile, the insurance companies are making 230% more in profits. And you know who they're stuffing the pockets of? People like Raphael Warnock, the biggest recipient for health care dollars in his last election in A swing state, by the way of Georgia. And then they pretend like, oh, no. The idea is we need to increase premium supplementation from the government to what? The insurance companies are making record profits in the. Of the top 10 companies in America, Fortune 500 for them are either big insurance or big pharma. Seven of the top 20 making record profits. And we're supposed to supplement them. And that's the solution. That's not the solution. We need competition. We need to hold them accountable. They have to have real financial consequences when they misbehave. Shame on them for what they're doing. And we're not doing anything to. We think that the, the idea of giving them more money is going to solve the problem. By the way, that supplementation they're talking about only benefits a very few Americans. We need to have something that gets rid of all that, that makes sure that people aren't using their insurance company inappropriately. For example, if you use your car insurance the same way you use health insurance, you'd be using it to change your car oil and your blinker and anything goes wrong and it would be unaffordable. It would be the biggest cost you have. You couldn't afford it and it would cost hundreds of dollars to change your car oil. But yet we've been conditioned to use your insurance company to fill a prescription that costs more for your deductible. And then it goes on your premium too, by the way, than if you just paid out of pocket. But we're trained to use our insurance companies inappropriately.
Amanda Head
Yeah, that's an amazing analogy, and I've never thought about it like that. But you're right. I mean, if you have a makeup, mirror, light go out in your car, you don't file an insurance claim. I want to ask you from the doctor side of things, because I remember the Obamacare rollout and I remember Obama and all of his acolytes saying, you know, we're going to let doctors be doctors again. We're going to take away the paperwork. It seems like that is the inverse, just the opposite.
Congressman Rich McCormick
They forced. We used to have, when the VA Affordable Care act, we had about 24% of all doctors working for the hospital system. Since they defunded doctors and forced them in a hospital system which is about 4, 30% more expensive than an individual doctor working by themselves. We now have almost 80% of all doctors work for hospital systems or health insurance companies. It's. And that's why it's increased by so dramatic amounts. And doctors, by the way, make about 30% less when adjusted for inflation since the Affordable Care Act. So they've been forced into these systems where their employees. We no longer control health care. We can't do nice things for people. We can't have any benefit for that. We are part of the system now and it's controlled by what? Big corporations, big hospital systems, big insurance companies, PBMs, big pharma. We are sold out to them.
Amanda Head
How much does health care cost the American people? Because you know, when you talk about what, what Democrats were fighting for to keep the government shut down, these subsidies that ultimately, you know, as it was explained to me, these were subsidies that could have gone to the American people but in many cases they didn't even know that it was available to them. So it was got left in the coffers of the insurance companies. Then the insurance companies obviously lobby, they pay out people like Raphael Warnock in the form of campaign dollars. What's the number we're talking.
Congressman Rich McCormick
So when you talk about the average American family of four, it's over $30,000 per year. That's what it averages now. Now realize biggest expense to government, over 30% of probably about 33, 34% of our mandatory spending is Medicaid and Medicare. And it's increasing by dramatic percentages every year by automatically we don't take a vote on it. It just happens. Now we now pay, I think over 80% of Medicaid, which is supposed to be a state program in at least five states. It is basically now just expected that we bought into the system. Now the federal government, which used to be one third of all government spending was from the fed. Now it's 2/3. That's happened in dramatic fashion because of the expansion of these federal programs. We're supposed to be state programs. States have accountability. They have a budget. They have to stay within it. We just print the money on the backs of our children and we're going to deflate our currency to the point where it's going to be dramatically affecting, not in this presidency but the next presidency when Social Security and Medicare go bankrupt and all of a sudden the budget crisis happens because we've been downgraded twice already as a currency. You're going to have a currency crisis and a budget process because we'll never let Medicaid and Medicare and so scary to go bankrupt. So what we're going to do, we're going to keep on voting to sustain that budgetary crisis and it's going to collapse our economy. Mark my words.
Amanda Head
Okay, I want to ask you about the PBM aspect of all of this, because you mentioned, you know, I love the car analogy because I do feel like, you know, the major surgeries, things like that, obviously that is what insurance should be for. But filling a prescription, maybe there's a health savings account option, maybe that's what you fill in with. Love it. But for PBMs, it seems to me that that has a huge responsibility as far as the burden of exploding the price.
Congressman Rich McCormick
It is. And if you look at how they're tied directly, vertically integrated with the insurance companies and everybody else, it is the massive problem. It's such a conflict of interest and it's a way to hide these. This profiteering. It doesn't benefit us. Oh, yeah, we give a coupon. We don't need coupons. We need fair competition. There's a reason that LASIK Ice Ridge, which is not covered by insurance, is the same price it was 50 years ago. 50 years ago. What's different? I mean, if it was around four or five years since the inception of lasik, supposed to get more expensive, it hasn't. Because it's competition, because it's not covered by insurance. That's it. And so when we look at things covered by insurance skyrocketing, right, and we still have denials of standard of care. We have so much to fix in this arena. We had PBM reform in December. It was stripped out. And the next time, it's against the bird, but we always have an excuse not to address it. We all know it's a problem, but guess what? It's one of the. It is the biggest lobbying effort in D.C. watch where the money's going and pay attention, folks, because they're ripping you off and they're doing it with their eyes wide open.
Amanda Head
Sir, I want to finish. I know that you have served the people of Georgia and the American people, obviously, here on Capitol Hill, but also in our armed services. When you see President Trump and the love that he obviously has for troops, you've seen the response to, from folks as far as recruitment. Every time President Trump is on the ground at a base, you see this, you know, ruckus, applause for him. They seem to feel the same way about him. I also am concerned that the damage done under Joe Biden is something that is more durable than will be fixed in one presidency, because you have. I don't know if this is the same with your family, but for a lot of folks, serving in the armed forces is a legacy. And you break that chain, you break one chain within the generation or One generation within that chain and then it's like, okay, how do you get these people back into serving their country? How much of a solution can come about during this term of President Trump's to try to repair, you know, the morale, that fighting spirit in the military.
Congressman Rich McCormick
The tragedy of the way we withdraw from Afghanistan could never be repaired. That was a gut punch. It was probably one of the worst days of my life. To see so many people betrayed, watch a $2 trillion, 20 year investment with thousands of lives lost and with the countless number of brain injuries, limbs lost, time away from our families, that was very personal to me. And to watch the recruiting effort just decline dramatically where everybody but the Marine Corps suffered dramatically, and even the Marine Corps, it was very difficult to make our mark despite our great recruiting. I had two sons that were going to go to the Marine Corps before Biden came into office. And then when he came of age, he was in office and they didn't want to go. They didn't like it. They didn't like what they saw. They thought this is a woke system they didn't like. And what's funny, Trump in his first presidency didn't realize how ingrained Obama's appointees were in the military. In his last year of presidency. When I was in the military, Trump's first presidency, I had four lectures on how to treat transgenders in the military. We didn't even have transgenders. That was already there before he was left his office. When he came in the second time though, Brilliant. First of all, you watch the recruiting just skyrocket. There's no other explanation. Nothing else changed except for the, the change of leadership.
Amanda Head
Before I let you go, you mentioned Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, someone who, like you, has seen combat. How important is that to the men and women that they have someone who is at the top of the department of war, who has seen what they.
Congressman Rich McCormick
See, no matter how you spend, a popular guy in the military. When you, when you see the response of the troops to he Vance Trump, it warms my heart. I was with him recently and said, hey, I saw your Hegseth Challenge. How about we do a double hegseth challenge in 10 minutes? He said, you can do that by yourself. But great guy, great sense of humor. He is a combat veteran. He gets the warrior ethos. He's written books on it. That's why he was chosen for this, to get us back on track to a mission oriented focus. And even he knows the things he doesn't know, which is very rare. When I asked him about contracting, about contract preparing the future generations of the military, whether it be the arms we use with the organization, the strategy. He said, you know, I know what I know, Rich, and I know who to put in the right place so that we can improve this process to make our military the lethal fighting force it needs to be to win the next war.
Amanda Head
That's incredible. And I actually just saw a recent clip of President Trump. The clip wasn't recent. The clip was from years ago. And President Trump, some reporters said, you seem like you have a lot of yes. People around you. But he said, no, actually I know where my shortfalls are. I know where I need to bring the experts in. And it seems like the secretary is the same way.
Congressman Rich McCormick
And he's done. President Trump's done such a good job in his second presidency, realizing that he had vestiges of the Obama leftovers and getting rid of them, making sure that we replace those people who are into whatever they're into. That's not the military, by the way. Then we get back to America. We get back into this war ethos that builds recruitment, that makes people want to join and knowing they're going to be taken care of, not because they look a certain way, but because they can actually get something done and that's safer, that's better, and it's more effective.
Amanda Head
Well, folks like you make people excited to be a part of the armed services as well. Thank you so much for spending some time with us.
John Solomon
Wow, what a great interview. And more ahead coming up after the break. Amanda interviewed Congressman Troy Downing about what Congress is trying to finish before the end of the year. Up next, Hey, folks, you know, every day on just the news, we dig deep to bring you facts. No spin, no nonsense. And I've come to really appreciate organizations that operate the same way. Americans who care about freedom, fiscal responsibility, and protecting the values that made this nation strong. Welcome back, everybody. Happy Boxing Day to all of you. We are continuing our special look tonight at Congress. And a few weeks ago, I sat down with Montana Congressman Troy Downing to discuss everything that Congress tried to fit in before the end of this year and what they need to do in the new year, which is coming up in just a few days. So take a listen. Returning to the show this time, live and in person, Congressman Troy Downing. Great to see you, sir.
Congressman Troy Downing
It's great to be live and in person. I mean, so much of this is done remotely. This is, this is a great opportunity.
Amanda Head
Well, you know, as you know, our offices are over by the White House. So we're in the same city, but it's never in the same studio.
Congressman Troy Downing
Yeah, you get so used to, like, being on this side of town. You're going, oh, northwest. That might as well be New Jersey.
Amanda Head
I feel like 30 years for the people who have been in Congress for so long that they knew it before zoom, that it's just bizarre to them. But anyway, I know you have a lot of priorities heading into next year, leading up to midterms. But let's talk about what happens between now and the end of the year, because we had 43 days of nothing happening. Now, I happen to know from folks like you and other Republicans that you guys weren't not working. You were trying to figure out solutions for a lot of the problems the American people have. But how do we. How do you guys cram in as much work that needs to be done? You got nine appropriations bills left. That's a lot of work to get done before the end of the year or January.
Congressman Troy Downing
Well, yeah, and thank you for acknowledging the part that, you know, even though the government was shut down, we were still doing policy work, we were still doing district work. I still got bills into the hopper, you know, so we still did all of that work. But one of the things I will tell you, I sit on the Financial Services Committee, and there's A lot of energy to get caught up. And I think we will get caught up of really just doubling down on our hearings to get back to where we had originally planned on being. So even though that time was stolen from us for completely, you know, political reasons, we're going to make up for that. You know, there's this saying that, you know, the party in control writes the laws and the party not in control decides how long it takes. But I think we're going to get past that because there's a huge amount of energy to get caught up. And obviously, we do have, you know, a clock ticking right now with the continuing resolution ending at the end of January. And there's a huge desire, and I believe this is on both sides of the aisle, to get back to regular order, to get back to the point where we're actually hearing, you know, these in committee and Appropriations, you know, actually having stakeholders, having these policies see the light of day and being refined into, you know, consensus policy. Getting that to the House and Senate floor, getting that passed, getting that reconciled and doing that before the deadline of shutting down the government. And one of the things I'll say in this last shutdown is I think the Republicans were very good at having a policy that didn't have any poison pills in it. We just said, let's give us seven weeks, seven weeks of current policy. Let's not put any, you know, partisan anything in there. So there's no reason to say no. And. And it just goes down. I got to tell you, I'm proud of House leadership, of Senate leadership. I'm proud of the Republican conference of actually sticking to their guns and saying, we're not going to negotiate with terrorists. What happens when you negotiate with terrorists? Eventually the terrorists realize that they have a way of doing something. And you're going to see that again and again and again. And I think the fact that this shutdown was so long and forced upon the American people with no wins to be shown there, I think that is going to discourage this from happening again. And we can get calmer heads to the table and actually start appropriating like the people of America sent us to do. So I think there's a lot of energy to do that. I think that we're posed to be able to get that done. I'm hoping we don't see any tomfoolery getting into January, and I'm hoping that leadership and the White House administration, I hope everybody works, you know, together to try to get this through well in advance of the end of January so that we're not looming at another, you know, deadline where we're stuck in another situation like that. But I am hopeful that we don't see that again.
Amanda Head
Me, too. So you do think that. Let me, I don't know how to phrase this because I don't think that Democrats learn their lesson, but I do think that you can always hope. I, too, was very impressed at the fact that Republicans stuck to their guns because, let's face it, there are some squishy folks in Congress on both sides of the aisle. But do you think that it was enough of a lesson learned by Democrats that they won't try to push shenanigans next year?
Congressman Troy Downing
Well, I think that there's been some pushback in their leadership, and I think they're kind of at each other's throats right now. Yeah. And also with their own base, their own voters. So I, you know, I'm going to, you know, stick to the positive. But, you know, some of the stuff that got thrown into here is stuff that we do need to address. You know, they tried to make this about, you know, healthcare. They tried to make it about the Affordable Care Act. And I will tell you, one of the things that has come out in this recent process that makes me really happy is that finally we have something that's very meaningful to Americans, to everybody in the country. And the Republicans and the Democrats wholeheartedly believe that the Affordable Care act has been a horrible failure. It's caused prices to go up. It's undeniable. Everybody has seen that over 15 years, nothing has done more to increase the cost of health care than the Affordable Care Act. It's ridiculous. But now you've got both Republicans and Democrats agreeing that it's a failed system. So now let's, yeah, at least they recognize it. And so they're trying to, you know, push a smokescreen of let's, let's throw more subsidies to hide the fact that it's failing because really, we were sold a fake bill of goods. They said, and here's something, we're going to add all of this coverage and we're going to make your policy go down. It makes no sense even on its surface. I mean, you can't say, hey, you want to buy a soda from a restaurant? We're going to keep the price down, but you're going to get a free hamburger with it. It doesn't work. I mean, it's going to make costs go up. And once you have costs go up, what happens is people make a decision on Whether that price increase is worth it or not. And some people go uninsured or they find alternatives like a health care sharing ministry or find something else rather than traditional insurance. And the people who come off tend to be those who least need services. You know, the healthier younger folks come off. And so what that does is that creates adverse selection. So you have a higher risk pool which causes prices to go up. And that's a cycle. Prices go up, more healthy people come off, increases the risk, which makes prices go up again. And so we're at the end of 15 years of that. And so the false narrative that we got from the Democrats is that somehow these enhanced premium tax credits, these Obamacare credits were going to affect the whole market, which is not true. And they made this false narrative that these were what were driving prices up, which is not true in my state. From the major payers we have, the smallest is like a single digit increase because of the enhanced premium tax credits on a small minority in the individual market. So it doesn't affect a small group, you know, like a business that uses a small group or a self pay or a large group doesn't affect any of those, just the individual market. And it's a small amount because the prices are going up for the reasons I just told you, this adverse election and because the cost of health care going up. And that's just economics 101. You put more money into a system, it doesn't make prices go down, it makes prices go up, up. In any system you see that with subprime lending, making housing prices go up, you see that with, you know, student loan access growing, it makes tuition go up. You see that in health care, in health insurance, that you start seeing the price of health care going up. So we need to start attacking and addressing the issues that are causing prices to go up. And if we can do that and deal with the rising costs of pharmaceuticals or prescription drugs, start looking at alternatives to, you know, to a la carte, you know, healthcare, start looking at, you know, value based care, start looking at all these different things, start, you know, programs to recruit more providers, more nurses so that hospitals aren't paying, you know, huge rates for traveler nurses. So we need to start enticing people to enter, you know, these career fields so that we can start deal with the, you know, the fundamental problem of the prices. And if you can do that and slow down the increase of these rates going up, more people will decide to cover themselves or be in the program. And you start to slow down that adverse selection and the other thing I think that the President is 100% correct on is give the power back to the people. I mean, I grew up in a poor family. Yeah, I grew up in a poor family. And when I was a kid, you know, single, single income family from a grocery store, and when I would go to the doctor, I would walk out and my mom would get out her checkbook and she'd write a check to pay for the services. And that's how it worked back then. And we've gotten so far away there because the doctor patient relationship needs to be exactly us right now. Let's say one of us is a doctor, one of us is a patient. This is the connection. Now you've got so many people between so many middlemen, so many people taking a piece of that piece. We're, you know, a mile apart. And we need to get, you know, we need to find solutions to get that closer and closer, to drive those costs down and start dealing with the underlying problems that are pushing these rates up. Because right now it's collapsing under its own weight. And the Democrats knew that when they started this in the beginning. And my opinion is they designed this to fail. Just force our hands into a single payer system. And I'm going to tell you for me personally, I don't want to be in a system where I go take one number to register my car and take another number to see a doctor. And I think most Americans feel the same. They don't want the government in control of their health care. Government control of anything just doesn't work.

Congressman Troy Downing, always a pleasure. Thank you so much, sir. All right, everybody. Coming up next, I spoke to Congressman Mark Harris of North Carolina on the problem of crime and what Congress is doing to fix it. That's coming up right after these commercials.

Hey, folks, let me flag something important as we move into the winter. Doctors have warned that this year's flu season was going to be a rough one. Now even mainstream media outlets like Fox News are reporting that a new or virulent and severe flu strain is spreading faster in the United States. The kicker, the already ineffective flu vaccine is even less effective against this new strain. What the media won't tell you is that Dr. Peter McCullough warned about this weeks ago. He's been clear that this strain is more severe and is unlikely to respond to the flu vaccine, which means personal preparation matters. That's why I trust the Wellness Company's two step approach. Step one, prevention through immune defense. Nasal and throat sprays used daily to help support your body's first line of defense right where viruses enter your body. Step 2 Early treatment through the Contagion Emergency Kit Physical physician prescribed antiviral options including a nebulizer, hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin so treatment can start early if you do get sick and you're not stuck in long lines or shelling out big money at urgent care during the holidays. Welcome back everybody. A couple weeks ago at a Republican study committee at the US House of Representatives, Amanda sat down with a number of Republican congressmen and women. This next interview is with North Carolina Congressman Mark Harris. They focus specifically on cleaning up crime, an issue that hit Congressman Harris's state hard. The state of North Carolina. Take a look.
Amanda Head
Returning to our show, Congressman Mark Harris from the Tar Heel state. Congressman, thanks so much for being here.
Congressman Mark Harris
Thank you so much for having me. Amanda, it's great to see you in person.
Amanda Head
I know it live and in person. I love this. I love when we get to come up here and, and see the faces in person who we oftentimes it's just across the digital airwaves. We have had a lot of conversations with you over, over the years about crime in North Carolina. Obviously the tragic crime that happened this summer with Irena. Remind me of her last name, Zaruska. That was something that was shocking to the nation and it wasn't just Republicans or Democrats. It was, it was something that we saw with our own eyes via the surveillance footage. And I think it brought the law and order issue home for a lot of Americans and not just Republicans. Is that what you hear when you talk to your constituents?
Congressman Mark Harris
Oh, I think it is. I think, you know, the fact that the reaction was so across the board in this country, people recognizing we had a real problem. It brought to light really the problem of crime in our major cities across this country. And I think just the innocence of arena when she stepped onto that train and just sat down and the guy was already on the train, sitting in the row behind her like he was asleep. And then to pull out that knife and stab her. Just the atrocity that people saw, it brought it all to light. And then of course, we took the Judiciary Committee down to Charlotte, North Carolina and did a field hearing. And I think that again began to shed light on just what was happening here.
Amanda Head
And the mayor there, Vi Lyles, she came out with a really interesting reaction to it all and tried to attribute it to mental illness, which, sure, that might be part of it, but it comes down to a criminality issue and a recidivism issue. To her credit, she did pivot, but I don't see many Democrats doing this these days. They pretty much double down on whatever they want to blame the crime du jour on.
Congressman Mark Harris
Well, they do. And that was. Became the real important part of this whole issue was the recidivism that you just mentioned when we talk about that, that this guy had been arrested 14 times and yet he was on the streets. And when you look at the breakdown in the system to where you had a magistrate who literally just had this person less than a month sitting in front of them and simply had him sign a statement that he would appear in court and yet he was out walking the streets. And someone that had spent five years in prison, someone that was known during his prison time that he had a problem going on a mental health issue, that should have been all the more reason to keep this person behind bars. Even his own mother was very clear and said he should have never been out on the streets. And she herself had been reaching out and begging for them to put him somewhere.
Amanda Head
I want to ask you, speaking of crime, the, the shocking thing that we saw happen in Washington, D.C. in November leading up to Thanksgiving, the seditious six, as everyone is, is starting to call them, how much of a role do they have in what happened? Because there is, there is a villainization of not only our soldiers, but anyone basically who's a first responder, most notably, you know, law enforcement. But they were serving in a law enforcement capacity. So I, I frankly am surprised that it took this long because of Democrats rhetoric.
Congressman Mark Harris
Well, the rhetoric has been over the top. And I think that when you stop and look at just the irresponsibility that we've seen, not only from these, but from elected leaders across the country that have been willing to say things that they shouldn't be saying and forgive that these folks are law enforcement. I've said that about the Border Patrol. That was part of Operation Charlotte's Web. These are law enforcement officers and we are to give them our respect. We're to give them our honor. Same thing with ICE agents. They are law enforcement. These people risk their lives each and every day. And when we know that the vast majority of Americans back the blue and say, we support our police, you've got to support all law enforcement. And we've got to continue to bring that message home. And elected leaders have got to be careful about the language they're using and the way that it undermines the authority. We saw that when you start telling people in the military you don't have to follow orders if you don't think they're legal. I mean, again, that is a step that at the end of the day is undercutting authority. That is a principle that we've seen happening in this nation that has always led to destruction and ultimately death. You don't undercut authority, sir.
Amanda Head
As I walk through the halls of this beautiful Cannon building, there is, there's an interesting dichotomy between Republicans offices and Democrats offices. I walk down and I see Democrats offices and there, there's various paraphernalia around their doors pertaining to trans issues and immigrant whatever, you know, and I say immigrant whatever because it's usually illegal immigrants. And then I walk past Republicans offices and you guys have the standard flags. You have the American flag, your state flag, this flag for the House. You guys, you've got Democrats out there who are saying things to the public, they are spewing rhetoric, and you have Republicans who are keeping their nose to the grindstone. And that was clearly evident throughout the 43 day shutdown because even though you guys weren't technically working, you were still working hard.
Congressman Mark Harris
We were working hard. We were all, in our districts, we were trying to meet constituent needs, we were going to businesses, we were trying to see what they were doing, how we could best help. So it was a great time in many ways during the shutdown for us to be educated because it gave us a chance to be out in the district on a more regular basis than we typically are. About one week a month. We have an opportunity, opportunity to be in the district and do constituent work. But this was an extended period of time, as well as trying to discuss and recognize how we were going to deal with the short term we were going to have once the shutdown was over, to be able to move some things.
Amanda Head
All right, so it is very short term. What's going to happen between now and January?
Congressman Mark Harris
Well, we're going to work all the way up. I'M being told that we're going to be here up till the week of Christmas, up to the 19th, I believe, and we're, we're going to be taking care of business. I hope we're going to see some appropriation bills. I'm hoping. I think there are nine left, and I think that we'll hopefully get something of that done before we get to Christmas.
Amanda Head
And what's the lowest hanging fruit, by the way, of those nine, what do you think is most likely to get buttoned up before January?
Congressman Mark Harris
I, I can't speak specifically of which ones may get buttoned up, but I can say that there has been the number. I have heard that there should be several, that we should not be controversial at all, that we should be able to get across the finish line. Oh, yeah. I think the NDAA probably is going to happen in the next week. But I do think that we've got to get some things done to make sure the American public recognizes that we, we can accomplish some things. As you said, there's such a diversity up here in terms of the environment, and it's a sense that we've got work to do. We showed in the shutdown that when Republicans stand together and when we work together and when we allow the leader to be the leader, and then we can move things and we can get things done and good things happen. So my hope is that we're going to continue to work together and we're going to be able to move the needle as we go forward.
Amanda Head
You are always working so hard on Capitol Hill next year. I've heard a lot of I've actually had a lot of conversations today with members about how to, I guess, kind of cobble together solutions for Obamacare. It sounds to me like a lot of you feel like it is too deeply ingrained in the system to completely do away with. But there are some patches that can be done. What are some of your favorites?
Congressman Mark Harris
I think some of the things that we keep hearing we talk about are some of the ideas that were there when we were talking about repealing Obamacare, that we need to be able to make sure that HSA's Health Savings Accounts become a big issue, that we're able to let folks purchase their health insurance across state lines. All those things that add to the competition and let the marketplace guide this thing. Anything that's going to put people in control of their own health care. I mean, health care freedom are three words that we've got to be able to say and mean. And I think when we start taking these ideas and making them part of the solution. You got to remember only 7% of the population is on Obamacare. I mean when you really stop and think about it, the reality is more than 50% of the American people are on their insurance plans through where they work in private insurance. And then you can look at how the percentages all break down, but only 7% that we're talking about. And yet at the same time it is ingrained that has gone so far that we've got to look at what can be the fixes that we can put here to somehow make it more competitive, to not let the insurance companies continue to be making out with all of the taxpayers money. That's where it's gone wrong desperately.
Amanda Head
Congressman Mark Harris, always a pleasure chatting with you and pulling all that wisdom. Thank you so much. Absolutely.
John Solomon
All right folks, after the break, Amanda and I will speak with the Senior Vice President of ABAC Action, Andy Mangione, to see what they will be working on coming up in 2026. They have an ambitious agenda too. We'll cover that next right after these messages.

Welcome back everybody. I can't believe 2026 is almost here and the Trump administration has been looking ahead to what it needs to get done in the new year, as well as the policy wins that they have gotten, of course, this year since President Trump's inauguration. So joining us now to talk about some of those wins as well as what comes next is AMAC Action Senior Vice President Andy Mangione. Andy, great to see you and early Merry Christmas.
Andy Mangione
Merry Christmas to you. Thank you.
Amanda Head
Thank you. All right, so you know the federal wins, those are always the newsy bits. And I know that AMAC is right in the middle of all of these efforts. Talk about some of the most consequential wins we've got at the federal at the federal level.
Andy Mangione
But we supported the Lake And Riley act, which became the first bill President Trump signed into law during his second administration. And if you recall, Lake and Riley was a nursing student who was tragically and violently killed in 2024 at the hands of an illegal alien. The bill requires Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain illegal aliens arrested and charged with theft related crimes or those accused of assaulting a police officer. And the law also grants states the rights to sue the Department of Homeland Security if illegal aliens victimize their citizens. Another bill we supported was the Halt Fentanyl act, which was also signed into law. This bill permanently places fentanyl related substances in Schedule 1, which designates them among the most dangerous controlled substances and is part of President Trump's effort to stop the scourge of fentanyl from wreaking havoc in American communities. But perhaps the highest profile bill that AMAC action was directly involved in was the one big beautiful bill. We pulled our members on the bill, and after they overwhelmingly supported it, we ran several campaigns that resulted in nearly 40,000 messages being sent to Congress by AMAC members in support of the bill. No other grassroots organization in the country made such an impact during the bill's deliberations. And in the end, many AMAC priorities were codified into law, including the $6,000 tax deduction for middle class seniors, health savings accounts being eligible for direct primary care, construction of the border wall, and the small business tax cut.
John Solomon
Yeah, and a lot of those are going to take effect at the beginning of the year. People are going to really see it show up in their wallet in their checkbook soon. Andy, Our founding fathers always intended the states to be laboratories of the great ideas that would one day make it to Washington. You guys had a ton of victories in the last year when it comes to state legislatures. Tell about a few of them.
Andy Mangione
Absolutely, John. Just very recently, AMAC members helped secure a significant election integrity victory in Ohio when the Governor signed a bill just this past Friday that mandated that all absentee ballots must be received by election Day. This legislation establishes a clear and uniform standard for absentee ballot receipt and builds confidence in Ohio's elections. AMAC member sent over 1000 messages directly to the Governor compelling him to sign this bill. And on the health care front, AMAC members in Oklahoma pressured the legislature there to help get a hospital price transparency bill enacted. What this bill does, it requires hospitals to publicly post their prices for hundreds of so called shoppable medical services. These are non emergency services and it makes them susceptible to penalties for non compliance. This means that patients can shop for the best prices for their non emergency medical services, much like the way they shop for any other major purchase they make in their lives. And John, this is free market medicine, which is something that AMAC Action has been advocating for over the past several years.
Amanda Head
Well, and Andy, it's so common sense, I think, that people in other countries look at our health care system, which is supposed to be modeled around the free market, and they think to themselves, how, how do people just go into a doctor's office and not have any idea what they're going to be charged? And we've dealt with that forever. So this is something that I know so many people appreciate that upfrontness when they go to the doctor. Speaking of the free market, there have also been a lot of corporate wins for a Mac. Tell us about those.
Andy Mangione
Well, Amanda, our advocacy also extends into the corporate boardroom. In 2025, we battled woke policies and we also fought for the right to life. AMAC members brought the grassroots muscle with over 4400 messages sent to IBM executives. These are people in the C suites to complement the legal and shareholder pressure to compel the company to adopt a viewpoint neutral policy for media buying and content policies with respect to political and religious views. This was in direct support of President Trump's efforts to eradicate the country of harmful DEI policies and shows the depth of AMAC members engagement on this issue. And in another significant corporate win, this time for the pro life movement, Costco has confirmed it will not stock or dispense the abortion drug Methotristone in any of its hundreds of pharmacies. This decision followed a multi year shareholder and advocacy effort on the part of AMAC Action in conjunction with the Alliance Defending Freedom and Inspire Investing. AMAC members are so passionate about the sanctity of life and their involvement here shows that they're willing to turn this passion into action.
John Solomon
Pretty amazing. When you mobilize that grassroots army, things really get done. So that begs the question, what's on your top priority list for 2026?
Andy Mangione
And it's going to be a busy year, John. Legislatively, there's, there are a few bills we're looking at, but we're going to aggressively pursue the passage of the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility or SAVE act in the Senate. AMAC members helped get this bill through the House earlier this year. The bill requires states to obtain documentary proof of citizenship and identity when registering people to vote for federal elections. It also requires states to take action to remove noncitizens from their existing voter roll. And it's a priority issue for AMAC members and we need to get this to President Trump's desk. And I believe we'll also spend a significant amount of time priming people to get out and vote in the 2026 midterms. Our side usually doesn't show up in off your elections and we need to change that. We'll be warning our members what will happen if President Trump doesn't maintain congressional majorities, namely nonstop impeachment and disruption of his agenda. And we also want to encourage people to work the elections as poll observers and election workers, much like we successfully did in 2024. And I anticipate these efforts being a year long initiative.
Amanda Head
Andy, we love the message of your organization. You look at some of the priorities of organizations like AARP and for freedom loving Americans. Your organization just tops that in so many ways and we appreciate you being here. Tell everybody where they can find out more about AMA.
Andy Mangione
Go to AMAC us www.amac.us One look at our homepage and it'll tell you exactly what our priorities are and where we're coming from.
Amanda Head
Absolutely. All right everybody, AMAC Action Senior Vice President Andy Mangione. Merry Christmas to you and your family and to our audience. We're going to take a very quick break and we'll be right back on the other side.

Welcome back everybody to close out this Boxing Day episode of our show. John, I know that you and I, because of our partnerships with some of our more health centered partners, we both tried to be better this holiday when it comes to conforming to the the tenets of Make America Healthy again. I did try to not imbibe in so much sugar because that's something that we've spoken about a lot with our Maha guests podcasts. Did you hold back or did you just let it rip? Because hey, it's the, it's the holidays.
John Solomon
I let it rip a couple of days, but I'm going to get back on program this weekend. I promise. Back on the path as our friends at Native Path say. Yeah, yeah, you know, there's too much good food around, but the good news is that we have quick and easy ways to get back on course. I think that's what's exciting. Think about the wellness company and their new product. New new product, drop or carb, which helps you lose weight. Obviously, the great nutritional stuff, the shakes we do Field of Greens, which is a daily, even on Christmas Day, I had my shake from Field of Greens. It's, it's easy to get back on the path now because you get that mindset. And of course, we have a lot of great products that our own community has brought us. So I will be back on the Schneider tomorrow and Saturday.
Amanda Head
I love it, John. As I was listening to these conversations that I had a few weeks ago, I was refreshing my mind. And it's interesting because a lot of the priorities for Republic Republicans for next year resemble what President Trump's priorities looked like going into the 2024 election. With the exception of one thing. The two main things are crime and affordability. That's something that Republicans have to address and have to ameliorate before the midterm elections take place. But the third thing, as we talked about all throughout the show with these guests, health care. And as we talked about at the top, Republicans finally have done the innovative thinking to find ways to fill in and patchwork Obamacare such that the American people can feel tangible results and tang tangible benefits. And if they can achieve all three of those things, I think that November might look good for them. Despite what we just saw in Miami, despite what we just saw in Virginia, in New Jersey and these other elections that everybody said were bellwethers.
John Solomon
Listen, I think Scott Rasmussen has it right. If the economy turns well and it be there are real signs that it's turning well, whether it is inflation slowing down or economic growth accelerating, which were two of the big issues going into Christmas week week, then the Americans will be in a good mood. And usually when Americans are in a good economic mood, the party in power does well. And when they're not, they do poorly. And so the first and second quarter will really dictate what the debate and the 26 election will be. I think you see Democrats and you wrote about this already preparing for health care because they see that the economy is probably not going to be their issue. So that tells you something.

And that's one of those big wins for Republicans that will help to demoralize Democrats and keep them away from the polls in November. So that could be another, another sidestep of a win for Republicans. All right, everybody, thanks so much for being with us. Happy Boxing Day. Have a wonderful weekend and we'll be back here on Monday at 6pm Eastern.
