Good evening America. Happy Tuesday and welcome to the latest edition of Just the News. No Noise in just a few minutes or just a few hours, the President States will deliver his first State of the Union address of his second administration. Yep, I'M John Solomon, your host. And I'm reporting from the nation's capital. We're going to have live coverage all night long. And Amanda, I have some great guests to get to before we get going. A lot of big thoughts for you today. Before we do that, let's get you a couple of headlines that matter. Trump appears to be moving towards striking Iran. He said overnight it will be something easily won. The so he does seem to be confident that whatever military plan comes up, the military will succeed quickly. And it seems as though regime change may be the ultimate goal of the next conflict. We've already disabled Iran's nuclear weapons. A second important story today, Justin, who's dug into all the aspects of what Mexico's most powerful cartel had. And at their compound when the leader of the new Jalisco New Generation Cartels hideout was struck and he was killed on Sunday, this was a historic moment of violence broke out. But what we know about this cartel, it's armed to the hilt, including with rocket launchers, bombs and drones that could take down a plane or bring C4 explosives into the United States. That's why the Homeland Security Department, the FBI and the state of Texas say they're all on high alert to make sure that the violence that has sort of marred Mexico since the killing of that cartel leader, El Mencho, began. We're on alert here to make sure it doesn't spread anywhere else. And tonight, of course, the president will create an extraordinary contrast for the American people. That contrast will involve two different things. First, what's happened in his first year of the presidency versus what happened during the four years of the Biden presidency. Eggs are lower, gas is lower, prescription drugs are lower, the border is secure, the world is more peaceful. And the story goes on and on and on. But the second thing the president will do is he'll create a contrast between what he and the Democrats will display in that room, the joint session of Congress. The president will bring new ideas to create a track of progress for the second year of his administration. The Democrats can only counter, at least according to their own plans, with protests like white T shirts and white dresses and people walking out and actually not even attending the speech, which is an insult to their constituents. And platitudes like the ones that Gavin Newsom gave to an audience of mostly black voters earlier this week when he suggested that they probably didn't do very well on their SAT score. Neither did he. Those are the sort of things it's the difference between a president with ideas and a Congress or at least an opposition of Democrats that have only protests and platitudes to offer. With that, I'm going to turn to my amazing co host, Amanda Head, who is not only back in the chair, she's also doing a lot of work tonight covering the president's speech. Amanda, you got a lot on your radar. Pretty big night.
Amanda Head
Yeah. I mean, first day back and back in action. Indeed. And I do have some hot topics that I want to discuss, of course. With the president's State of the Union address coming up tonight, it seems that Democrats are poised to oppose President Trump and his administration at every turn. And of course, rather than taking this opportunity to come together and unify the country, the Democrats appear to be falling back on their familiar tactic of boycotting anything that doesn't align with their views. Here's Democrat Representative Angie Craig sharing her thoughts on the president's State of the Union address.
Congressman Tom Barrett
Take a listen and I'll just end with this.
John Solomon
I would rather stick forks in my eyes than be here tonight to listen
Congressman Tom Barrett
to Donald Trump talk about the State of the Union. But this is the people's House.
Amanda Head
Leave your drama at the door, ma'.
Sean Carney
Am.
Amanda Head
The Democrats Trump derangement syndrome is on full display tonight. Let's take a listen to what Speaker Johnson has to say about how the Democrats are pre reacting to.
Congressman Tom Barrett
All they can say, all they can
Congressman Mark Harris
tell you about is how they oppose
Congressman Tom Barrett
President Trump and thwart his agenda and shut down the government and protest everything from the president's joint address to basic immigration enforcement. And they obstruct any meaningful progress for
Congressman Mark Harris
the sake of obstruction.
Congressman Tom Barrett
It's the same tired playbook that they've run for a decade now. It's shameful that they would boycott an address. We don't do that. Republicans don't do that.
Sean Carney
It doesn't matter if there's a president
Congressman Tom Barrett
from the opposing party. We don't skip out. Our constituents want and need us to be here.
Amanda Head
Speaker Johnson is right. This is all just theater for the Democrats. And their reactions to funding the Department of Homeland Security show that they are more focused on their own feelings than on the needs of the American people and their constituents. So speaking of the American people and America first, let's take a look at what Sheriff Milby has to say about our northern border security.
John Solomon
And whenever I hear somebody talk negativity
Congressman Tom Barrett
negatively about border security, what I hear
John Solomon
is somebody who's actually supporting sex trafficking, child exploitation, drug trafficking. There is so much more to the picture than is being touted out there. And I appreciate all the efforts that the president has put into the support of the northern border.
Amanda Head
I think a lot of Americans look at what he said, and they think he's exactly right. If you don't support securing our borders, then you are supporting that violent crime that has been flooding through it up until President Trump took office. The majority of Americans want border security, and President Trump is trying to keep that promise. And, John, one final thought that warms my history loving heart. The U.S. capitol Historical Society announced this afternoon that a very special artifact would be present tonight for the State of the Union address. Our country's first president, George Washington's gavel. Absolutely amazing. I think that's so fun. President Trump loves this kind of history, too. But, John, when I think about State of the Union addresses, I mean, we act like these Democrat tactics are brand new. But if we think back to President Trump's first term, Nancy Pelosi ripping up the speech, it was the first time that happened. Just acting like sometimes petulant children.
John Solomon
Yeah, no, absolutely. There'll be a real contrast tonight in everything that happens, including the fact that the president's guests are Olympic gold medal champions. The hockey team, they were taking a tour of the White House earlier today. Pretty good stuff. All right. I'm really excited to kick off the show tonight with this first guest. He is a congressman from the great state of North Carolina. His X feed is a must read. He does such great work. He is Congressman Mark Harris. Sir, good to have you on the show today.
Congressman Mark Harris
Thank you so much, John And Amanda, it's great to be with you tonight.
John Solomon
It is a great honor to have you. I know you have your own expectations of what you think will happen in the chamber tonight, but already just even going in, it's pretty clear tonight that President Trump, Trump is going to lay down a track of new ideas to guide his second year in office that show people Republicans have more plans for, more ambitions, more solutions. The Democrats seem to only have white dresses, T shirts, and no shows to respond. How will Americans deal with that? Very strong contrast?
Congressman Mark Harris
Well, John, I think the American people are continuing to see through the antics. They're seeing through what the Democratic Party has, has become. And I think it is very, very tragic when we have come to this place that we are. But, but let's get real. This is what tends to happen when a party has sort of been taken over by the far left, a party that really doesn't have a true leader of it. They really don't have any winning issues with the American people. And they seem to be rudderless as I oftentimes describe it. And so when you're in that position, all you can do is try to create chaos. All you can do is try to walk away. And I think that that's exactly what a number of them are going to do tonight. They're going to just walk away. The others that will be there, I hope will be there and show some decorum in the midst of it. But listen, this is the President of the United States. This is a historical moment. This is the State of the Union address. And if there's ever a time that we as Americans can come together and hear the President as he addresses the joint session of Congress in the State of the Union, listen, it's something we need to do and it's something we celebrate. And I'm very excited about the potential tonight. Yes, the President has a lot of wins and I'm sure that upsets my colleagues on the other side of the aisle. They don't want to hear about how crime has come down, that we have the lowest number of murders since 1900, 125 years. That's an incredible drop in the murder rate. They don't want to hear how 2.6 million folks have gone out of the country, 600 plus thousand by deportation and almost 2 million 1.9 million that have self deported that they don't want to hear about the borders being secure and that no illegals are getting across. So I could go on and on. I'm not going to steal his speech. He has a long litany of things that is going to be celebrated tonight and unfortunately the other side just doesn't want to hear it.
Amanda Head
I think that's true, sir. Democrats unfortunately have a pretty strong track record though when it comes on maybe not running on a message and just running on fear. How do Republicans counter that fear and make sure that the truth gets through it?
Congressman Mark Harris
Well, I think we've got to just keep communicating our message. We've got to communicate and remind people. I'm sure the President will do this. You got to remind people where we've come from. He's got to remind people where we found ourselves just about 13, 14 months ago following four years of the Biden administration policies. Then he's got to remind them of what we've been able to do this year. And that message is going to be so important to continue to remind the American people of those very things that I just started talking about a few moments ago. And then he's got to remind people of the America that we've still got to get done. He's got to talk about, I hope, sanctuary cities and defunding them because so many of the things we've seen go wrong are in places like Minneapolis where we're not seeing cooperation between the local and the state and the federal, but rather just totally ignoring federal law on immigration. And that's just not going to stand. So I think he's going to talk about that. I hope he's going to talk about the Save America act because all of America, 95% of Republicans and 70 plus percent of Democrats all agree that we need that kind of election integrity in the Save America Act. So I look for him to call the Senate out and urge them to do things immediately. It's time for the Senate to take action on these things that we have been doing and have already passed out of the House.
John Solomon
Sir, There was an extraordinary set of circumstances in the last few days. Whether they were in Munich while they shut down our homeland Security here, Democrats were saying silly things. Whether they were in an interview or an event like Gavin Newsom over the weekend where he suggested that just because the audience was black, it must have had low SAT score scores. Or whether you're the Wisconsin governor Tony Everest who had to admit that he built the system in Wisconsin economy that only works if you have illegal aliens to cheapen the workforce. Democrats have had a lot of shoe leather moments in their mouth. How does, how do Republicans begin to turn those around and begin to make a case for 26 that the difference between Democrats and Republicans is more than just rhetoric. It's literally the way they look at people.
Congressman Mark Harris
It is more than rhetoric. It really is, John. The way we look at people, the way we look at the American dream, the way we look at the fact, even something as important as a State of the Union speech, it's a time where we come together. We may disagree. Listen, if there's a Democrat president speaking, I'm going to disagree with most of what he says. But I would certainly hope that I'm going to honor the decorum that is expected of me as a member of the United States House of Representatives. I think that we need to continue to communicate our message about the vision for America. Listen, we're making America great again. That's more than a slogan. That is something that really is inspiring. Look at who his guests are going to be tonight. We've just won the gold medals in the Olympics in hockey here in the United States and how all of us. I even looked at a documentary just the other day that reminded me of the Miracle on Ice from when we won it in 1980. And again, it just welled up inside of me. I think those kind of moments that we can remind the American people of just keeps folks moving forward. And I think that is so important. And we've got to be able to message that. I think we went on policy, we just do. We've just got to communicate it effectively and let folks understand it.
Amanda Head
Yeah. Maybe having the miracle on nice guys in the Oval a few months ago was a sign of what was to come. Absolutely. Sir, before we let you go, speaking of fear, there is something that is a scary prospect for both Republicans and President Trump, and that is the notion that Democrats could take the House. If they do, they have already promised impeachment after impeachment after blockade after blockade. Do you think that they intend to actually do that? Because, I mean, maybe they want to sell messages or maybe they do just want to sell impeachment.
Congressman Mark Harris
I have no doubt that that's exactly what they're going to do.
Amanda Head
Yeah. All of the progress would be gone.
John Solomon
Sir, we always love having you on. Your passion for your constituents, your passion for common sense is amazing. I think we lost the congressman, but what a great, what a great opportunity to kick off the show. All right, folks, we got a lot more discussion ahead on the state of the Union, including what it means to one of the battleground states, Wisconsin. We have Michigan Congressman Tom Barrett's going to join us right after the break. He's also doing something to make air travel safer. This amazing. We talked to him about it. The House rejected it in the last hour or so. But when you hear it, you're going to realize how important is to get it done. We're going to get to all the of that right after these messages. Hey, folks, did you know that high blood pressure is the number one risk factor for mortality? Half of all adults have high blood pressure, myself included. for healing, learn more and sign the pledge@workingwithcancerpledge.com. Welcome back everybody to just the news. No noise. A lot happening up on Capitol Hill today. I was up there at 9am this morning and it was already a hoppin because the President, of course, is going to be delivering the first official State of the Union address of his second term later tonight. And with Democrats aiming to gain control of the House, what can we anticipate from President Trump's address? How is he going to engage with voters as we approach the midterm elections. Joining us now to discuss this and so much more is congressman representing the great state of Michigan, their seventh district, Tom Barrett. Congressman, thanks so much for being with us.
Congressman Tom Barrett
Amanda, thank you for having me. I really appreciate it. We're looking forward to the president's remarks tonight.
Amanda Head
Absolutely. We appreciate you being here. And I anticipate with so much of an emphasis on the economy and a lot of things happening last year that will start to bear fruit hopefully for Republicans coming up in the spring. What do you anticipate President Trump's going to hit on and do you think that will be the priority?
Congressman Tom Barrett
Yes, absolutely. I mean, we're already seeing better and higher tax returns for, for many Americans, especially the hard working Americans in the economy. Those that are working overtime, like the road paving crew that I visited in my district last summer, you know, they were super excited about the no taxes on overtime wages that they earn. You know, the hardest working Americans that do that, the auto assembly line workers that put in extra hours after their 40 hour week is done as they're retooling a new assembly line or any of the other countless Americans that work overtime and extra hours, paying no taxes on those overtime wages or the people in the service economy, no taxes on tips and gratuities for those that are providing services that have really transformed our economy in the last decade or so, or whether it's, you know, seniors like my mom and dad, my mom is my guest for the State of the Union tonight. And you know, my parents and about 90% of other seniors are going to pay no taxes on their Social Security wages or Social Security benefits that they've earned. These are meaningful things. And then for the families in my district, like the ones in Carline when I dropped my kids off at school, an expanded child tax credit that'll make life just a little bit easier for people raising kids throughout our country. These are really, you know, great reforms. They're meaningful reforms. And they really go at the heart of, like I said, the hardest working Americans to give them the most relief that we can.
John Solomon
There's a dynamic that is just starting to hit the dinner table now, Congressman, that is that affordability isn't just in the statistics anymore. It's starting to hit. I went to the gas station this morning. I paid up 270 last year at State of the Union I paid about 320. I went to the pharmacy. My most expensive prescription was down about 30%. Food store eggs are down. It seems to me that sometimes it takes a few months for those statistics to hit the dinner table. But is this a night where the President reminds people that he made America affordable again?
Congressman Tom Barrett
Yeah, absolutely. I mean, to your point about eggs alone, I mean, it was not long ago that we were paying six or more dollars for a dozen eggs and now, you know, they're back down to 2 bucks or less for a dozen eggs. And you know, that's a meaningful and measurable, you know, benefit that we've seen. But also as we look at the trajectory line of where these things are heading, you know, we've got more work to do. I tell people all the time that in Congress we're never going to work ourselves out of a job. There's always going to be a lot of problems to fix that we've got to do the hard work of doing. And now, you know, we got to put a lot of energy and attention around housing. The President has put forth some plans to really prevent these monopolistic large hedge fund, sometimes foreign owned entities from buying up and competing against single family new entry level homes that families would look to buy to start building their own family around the average age of a first time home buyer in America is over 40 years old. Now these are things that we've got to tackle. The President's put forward some ideas in which to do that. We've brought some ideas up in Congress. I've introduced some bills in that effort as well. There are real things that we need to do to tackle these problems that we're facing. I'm sure we're going to hear a lot about tariffs and foreign trade. We're going to hear about foreign policy. Some of the, you know, some of the bad actors abroad, whether that's in Venezuela, whether it's in Iran or other parts of the world. These are all things that the President's going to talk about. To your point, about prescription drugs, the most favored nation status reforms that the President has worked really hard on so that Americans are not paying an unfair burden of the research and development that goes into these drugs. They're then sold far cheaper in every other developed country in the world. It's time that we expect other countries who are benefiting from these technologies to also contribute toward the research and development that goes into them so that Americans alone are not bearing that cost.
Amanda Head
Congressman, Republicans definitely have a formidable success record from last year along with President Trump. But Democrats are going to use fear. They're going to say, you know, it's the age old. Women's are going to lose, women are going to lose their Republicans, reproductive rights, minorities are going to lose their voting rights. Everybody's going to be losing rights. How do you counter their message, especially with you guys already having gotten the Save America act out of the House. But they are going to, they're going to harp on all of these fears, which I hate to say it, it brings voters to the poll.
Congressman Tom Barrett
Yeah. And unfortunately we've seen far too many people in Congress looking for attention at any cost. And I just had my 5 year old son joined me last week in Congress. I brought him out here and I tell him all the time that not all attention is good attention. And, and I think a few members of Congress would benefit from that lesson as well. I also shared with you I brought my mother as my State of the Union guest tonight. So I can tell you that I will be on my best behavior and I will not be getting kicked out
John Solomon
of the State of the Union.
Congressman Tom Barrett
Will be watching and maybe a few other members could benefit from that as well. And you know, I'm willing to offer my mom as a disciplinarian to any of them that would benefit from that.
Amanda Head
I think that would be a benefit that would be.
John Solomon
That's a good idea. We might shape up Congress quickly. That's good.
Congressman Tom Barrett
I can tell you she's very well practiced.
Amanda Head
Oh, yeah.
John Solomon
Yeah. That's about what you need to manage Congress. So that's pretty good.
Sean Carney
All right.
John Solomon
I want to turn to something that you're taking the lead on. I know it's close to your heart personally, aviation safety. We have a great industry. It's pretty safe. But there are things that we can be doing to use technology to make it safer. The Potomac crash a year ago January was an eye opener to a lot of people on just the failures that occurred. Tell us what you're up to and how it's going to make our airlines even safer.
Congressman Tom Barrett
Yeah. I've introduced and thank you. We've put forth a number of reforms that I've submitted. I obviously have some experience in this, having flown helicopters in the army before coming to Congress, flown night vision goggles and logged time flying the same and similar types of aircraft. The helicopter that tragically was involved in that collision over Washington D.C. 's airport and crashed into the Potomac and over 60 lives were lost in that tragedy. We've got to make serious changes to what's going on. And not to get too granular with the particulars and the details of technology, but just as an example, the American Airlines flight had a technology called ADS B, which is the precision kind of positioning Broadcast of where that aircraft is for awareness of other aircraft and air traffic control. They had ADS B broadcasting out of the aircraft, but they did not have the receiver coming into the aircraft. The helicopter had ADSV coming into the aircraft but not going out of the aircraft. The airplane had collision avoidance technology on board, but the helicopter did not. And all of these things need to integrate and intermesh together. It's going to take some changes within the Department of War to change their protocol of how they use these technologies. We want to protect national security and sensitivity of missions when they are sensitive in nature to protect that national security interest. And there are ways to do that. I have an ADS B out loophole bill that would require the Department of War to use this broadcasting technology for their position unless they are conducting a sensitive or secret mission and only during the phases of flight where it is secret or sensitive. When they come back over Washington D.C. airport and they're flying across the Potomac river at the base of the Runway being used for landing. At that point, they ought to turn this on so that everyone can know where their location is to keep everyone safe. The ROTOR act is one that was introduced by Senator Ted Cruz. It's being voted on in the House today. It is a step in the right direction that I intend to support on the floor today, and then we'll see where that kind of goes from there. But fundamentally, we have to change the practice and the protocol that the Department of War has been using. We've got, in my opinion, too many spoiled generals looking to get flown on helicopters around Washington D.C. and other parts of the country. We've got to change that practice to really improve upon aviation safety. So we're not introducing risk into the national airspace. It's important work that needs to get done. And I'm doing my best to really balance all of this in the way that is appropriate and take the findings of the NTSB report and put those into practice and. And change our protocols of how this happens.
Amanda Head
That's really great. Congressman, you've had some important conversations lately. I just finished watching the Charlie Sheen documentary, and if I learned anything from that, it's that there is a deficit of these services in this country when it comes to recovery. But you've had some important conversations in Michigan about addiction recovery. Tell us what you found.
Congressman Tom Barrett
Yeah, I had the benefit of when I was in the state legislature. Legislature sitting next to my seatmate when I was in the state House, was a really strong addiction and recovery advocate. This is really eye opening. And you look at the cultural effects of so many things that have happened in our country. And these are real things that we've got to improve upon. I'm really proud that we've seen a decline or a decrease for the first time in so long of opioid and fentanyl overdose deaths. That is attributable a lot to obviously the work that's been done here in Congress as well as the President to halt the flow of fentanyl into our country. But also look at addiction and recovery therapies and treatments that we can invest in to give hope and give confidence and give recovery to more and more Americans. That is something we need to do. It's a cultural thing we need to fix, but it's also an enforcement of halting the flow of these illegal drugs into our country so that more Americans are not found to have these tragedies arise. And prevention is the best thing we can do. But then addiction and recovery are also pieces that we need to invest heavily in. And I'm proud of that work that we're doing. There's more that we have to do. We're still losing far too many Americans to these overdose deaths. But really getting at the root is going to be so critically important. And I hope the President brings up and speaks about some of that tonight as well.
John Solomon
Yeah. So we've got about a minute left. Real quick, I want to ask about Iran. We already disabled their nuclear program or set it back quite a ways. If the president were to launch another military attack, his regime change the ultimate goal.
Congressman Tom Barrett
Well, I think certainly, you know, the Ayatollah is a belligerent, you know, basically pseudo dictator in Iran that has destabilized the entire region. I lost friends in Iraq to the hands of Iranian produced munitions and bombs that were used to kill friends of mine in Iraq. And there are families that are shattered in our country through the loss of life during the war on terror that was born a lot of that out of the efforts that were undertaken in Iran. So it is not in any way too soon to see a change of leadership in Iran. And I'm hopeful that the people there will continue to rise up, continue to voice their desire for freedom. And I think there are things we can do short of us sending military troops on the ground into Iran that would enable the people of Iran to take ownership of their own country. Whether that's technology that bypasses the Internet censoring, whether it's cell phones that directly connect to satellite technology to allow them to bypass the censorship that's going on, or whether it's other organizing efforts that we can take to really empower the people in Iran that have to decide this for themselves, what the next steps of their country is going to be. They don't want to live under the thumb of the Ayatollah. Their currency is devalued down to almost nothing. They've had an oppressive regime for decades now, longer than I've even been alive. This is really serious stuff that I'm optimistic about the direction that the Iranian people are taking to bring about fundamental change in their country. And I just hope and pray that that will continue to take effect so that we can have a peaceful relationship with Iran.
John Solomon
Yeah, exciting.

Amanda Head
We will be watching. All right everybody, stay tuned because we have much more for you coming up on the other side of this break.

Welcome back, America. While much of the president's speech tonight, we'll talk about domestic issues like affordable affordability and security and safety in the border. There's also a big component of a foreign policy. What's going to happen in Iran? Are we going to bomb? Will that violence in Mexico spill over since the killing of that extraordinarily bad cartel leader? And another important one, what do we do with China? And tonight in the audience will be a powerful symbol of China's persecution and prosecution against freedom. The daughter of Chinese act imprisoned Chinese activist Jimmy Lai will be in the audience at the behest of House Speaker Mike Johnson. Joining us now to make sense of all of this and to tell us what we could expect tonight. He's a senior research fellow at the Heritage foundation. And before that, he was one of the most trusted security advisers inside the White House, deputy national security adviser to the vice president in Trump 1. He is Steve Yates. Steve, great to have you back.
Steve Yates
Thanks so much. Wonderful to join.
John Solomon
All right. A lot to cover in tonight's speech. I don't think the president will miss any of it. He'll get it all covered. But Iran, Mexico, China, got to be three big topics that will come up. What do you expect?
Steve Yates
Well, on Iran, the challenge has been put to him by those that have been briefed on the Hill to make the case to the American people of if force is going to be used, how might it be used? How do we ensure that it doesn't spill over into an Iraq 2.0 situation or any other kind of unfriendly spillover in the region or to our shores? I think the president has plenty he could say. I'm not privy to what he is intent upon selling tonight, but I do think that he wants to reassure that we have both peace and strength on full display in every meaningful part of the world. And that is the pivot the president has made in being a good steward of American interests, but also a world that had kind of gone mad and gone broken in the previous years. So I expect he might have to use force over the coming weeks and months to keep negotiations on track. I don't expect a broader war to break out on the Mexico front. I think that people might be a little reassured that seems things calmed a little in the immediate aftermath of those horrifying images. But there's every reason to be worried about cartels that have tentacles into our country in far too many ways. People have suffered unspeakable losses with fentanyl and crime and other kinds of problems that have come across our borders. And so perhaps because Donald Trump is in the Oval Office, those cartels might want to think twice before having direct American casualties in American soil. That would provoke an overwhelming response. For now, it's in Mexico, and I think it's important that this be won. It's a challenge that's waited far too long for real action. And whether the government of Mexico wanted it or not, they're in it now, so they might as well be in it to win it. The China stuff is kind of longer term. The president's in negotiations on rebalancing things economic. We have a lot of accountability on Covid and fentanyl and other areas. Rebalancing of trade is just a part of these things. And their security challenge of how do we deter their aggression, the territorial aggression that encroaches upon our allies and upon us. And the last part of that that I would just put as kind of icing on the cake. You mentioned that the daughter of Jimmy Lai will be there. I think it's super important that the cause of media freedom, freedom of association, was squashed in Hong Kong after the Chinese takeover. Says something more broadly about China. I also hear the crew of the Artemis 2 have been invited by Speaker Johnson to attend. I'm a huge advocate for winning the Space Race 2.0. It matters economically, it matters strategically and militarily. It also matters to the spirit of America. And if we're going to win that, we need that crew in space, not in the Capitol. And that's why I would really, really advocate we have a private sector, public sector collaboration to leapfrog into a different approach that goes beyond the Artemis in winning that space race. So that's kind of the tour de horizon of what could get addressed if the President waxes long on foreign policy.
John Solomon
It's a big horizon indeed.
Amanda Head
Steve, I want to stay on Mexico for, for a moment because, I mean, it was. It was actually quite shocking to see the leader of. What is it? Cartel Jalisco, new gang taken out. I think what a lot of people are also surprised by is the fact that, you know, Claudia Sheinbaum, she has a reputation for having at least an arm's length relationship with cartels in that country. What do you think it took for President Trump to convince her and her contemporaries that coordination was in their best interest?
Steve Yates
Well, I know that the administration has been looking from before coming back in this term and early in the term at all the authorities and capabilities that would be necessary if we didn't have the help of the government of Mexico. And in order to provide for the common defense and protect American citizens and communities, we had to take this action what would be necessary. And it's a dangerous list. It's one that we could use our capabilities and we probably would win, but at some risk and some cost. And so I think it was far better for us to find a way to push the government of Mexico to ultimately have to move. I strongly suspect that we had intelligence that said we know where this dangerous person is and several others. And either we're going to do it and Pandora's box is one wide open, or you're going to do it and Pando's box is open just a little bit less. And I think that they knew that this was sort of a survival level kind of decision. And either they do it themselves and hold on to the hope of power, or it's done by America and either the cartels or someone else is pushing them aside.
John Solomon
Yeah. So very important to get that equation right. Just before we let you go real quickly, watching a socialist government in Venezuela suddenly do a lot of things that are beneficial to United States, seeing a socialist president in Mexico do things that other Mexican leaders were unwilling to do, there does seem to be a change in the dynamic, particularly in our hemisphere. How far reaching is that? And could a Cuba collaboration collapse be part of that outcome of that equation?
Steve Yates
Well, we're definitely in the territory of dream of things that never were and ask why not? So President Trump, in a lot of ways is an echo and an abominant of a lot of what came out of the Kennedy era just swapping the parties. And so we're looking at space, we're looking at our hemisphere, and we're doing things that people said couldn't be done. And I think that is sort of a summation of what Trumpism is, besides all the pop and sizzle of the critics and complaints. And so I do think that that is where momentum is going. There's a part of my heartstrings that are pulled by, yes, we're having these socialist governments do some of the right things. I'll take the win. At the same time, I'd love to see freedom movements and really accountable free leaders come into this place. All things in good time.
John Solomon
Yeah, it seems like the winds are blowing in a direction of change in those countries soon. So as always, Steve, we love the great insights you give us. Thanks for joining us on such an important night.
Steve Yates
A pleasure. Thanks so much.

Learn more and sign the pledge@workingwithcancerpledge.com. Welcome back, everybody. As more cities, including New York City, legalize physician assisted suicide, what implications does this have for the pro life movement and what actions can be taken to address it? Joining us now is the CEO and President for 40 Days for Life, Sean Carney. Sean, thanks so much for being with us.
Sean Carney
It's good to be back. Thanks for having me.
Amanda Head
Absolutely. You know, anytime there is a conversation, you know, whether it is about abortion, whether it is about the Holocaust, whether it's about physician, there is the human aspect of it where, you know, you try to dehumanize babies when it comes to abortion, you try to dehumanize Jews when it comes to the Holocaust, and then you try to dehumanize situations that people are in. We've seen in Canada, this is a very slippery slope. It goes from, you know, trying to be humane to cancer patients to someone with, you know, cystic acne who experiences depression and anxiety and then they get pushed into it. How have we gone so far that we have just completely lost all notion of the, of the value of life?
Sean Carney
Yeah, you're exactly right. And they just really want to get to whatever answer that they can get to, to, to euthanize anyone for any reason. That's why you get the acne, you get cancer, you get depression or anxiety or, you know, you know, somebody feeling unwell in any way and they can just decide to have somebody kill them. And it really comes from everything you said, from eugenics, that we or even you yourself deem yourself useless or worthless. You're no good to society and therefore we can get rid of you. And all of eugenics, whether it be abortion or euthanasia, is built on this notion. The difference with assisted suicide is that the person themselves is telling the medical community, you can do this to me. And in some cases in Canada, the person may not get to make that decision. And so this has been a real problem in Canada. We've been worried about it coming to the United States knowing that if it came in this fashion, it would probably be New York to the first to do it. And, and this is really, really bad. Most things culturally that come out of Canada are very bad. And this is number one on, on our list. This is a huge, huge problem. And when you look at the pro euthanasia crowd, they're actually disappointed at the lack of progress they've made the last 10 or 20 years. Unlike the abortion crowd that's gotten, you know, abortions through all 40 weeks and, and denying medical care to a baby who serves survives an abortion. The euthanasia folks have not had that success until this New York bill or
Amanda Head
an even more horrifying scenario. Sorry, John, for jumping in, but I just heard about a recent couple in, in Canada who they did the, I think it was the wife who elected to have it done. Then she changed her mind and they proceeded with it anyway. Horrifying.
Sean Carney
Yeah. And that is the problem because what happens is the patient will reveal an illness or their misery or the fact that they don't like their husband or whatever the reason is. It's pretty vague. And then human nature kicks in and they have a desire to live and it's too late according to the government. This is obviously a problem with socialized medicine, but this is a very dangerous mentality that surprisingly isn't as prevalent in the United States. It doesn't poll as well as it does in Europe or in Canada. But I'm afraid that we're five to 10 years behind that because this mindset, particularly as, as my parents, the baby boomers get older, so many people are going to look, they're expensive. There's a lot of baby boomers. And there's a very dangerous mentality that our health care system or anything else can't sustain them. Certainly Social Security. And so many people make these horrific, immoral economic arguments to just end the life of grandma because she's expensive. And that's a very, very dangerous mentality and it's a sick mentality.
John Solomon
There's a lot of guests in the audience. Some are pretty famous, like the gold winning men's Olympic hockey team. But then there's another woman, Blair Sage, who I think is a, excuse me, Sage Blair, who is a victim of human trafficking and a victim of a system that seemed to get between her and her parents. How important is her presence in tonight's audience?
Sean Carney
I think it's awesome and I think President Trump is going to do something tonight that I wish he would do more of. He's very good at doing it, but he doesn't do it a lot. And that is tug at the heart and share some of these stories. So so often the left runs around and you know, they talk about 14 year old rape victims or they talk about sex trafficking or they, they talk about how great it is when somebody transitions, you know, from being a man to a woman. They don't tell the horror stories, they don't work with 14 year old rape victims. We do, we look them in the eye. They don't talk about detransitioners, which we just had one on our podcast this week, and the, the great pain and the silence of so many parents and adults as these kids, you know, transition into something, not knowing what in the world they're doing. They're just teenagers trying to figure out life as we all did. It doesn't mean that they were born into the wrong body. So it is a great injustice. I'm glad that he's going to tell some of these stories. He's good at doing it. And somehow it gets, you know, left out that we on the right, we have our sad stories too. We had, we can tug at the heart and I think President Trump needs to do that to show the truth of what really is common sense.
John Solomon
Absolutely.
Amanda Head
John, before we let you go, I want to ask you kind of a theological question going back to the assisted suicide thing. There are a lot of Christians out there who believe that if you commit suicide, then you are condemned to hell, to a lake of fire. I don't believe that. I view God as much more merciful than that when someone is dealing with so much anguish here on earth. But does it seem to you like for some folks, maybe this is a way out, that they want to die, but they can they get by on a technicality because they didn't technically do it to themselves?
Sean Carney
Probably, yes. But of course they're still a culpable. And, you know, I'm Catholic and suicide is a sin. We don't know who's in hell and who's not. But suicide is a sin because our life is simply not ours to take. And so obviously you have different circumstances if somebody has been abused in some form or fashion or has some kind of an addiction. But for people who are just tired and they want to weigh out and they've given up, that's an attack on the virtue of hope. And that's why it's a sin. And that's why we have to live in a society where the dignity of every human person is upheld. And Christianity is the only one that ultimately fights for all minorities, those who are seeking suicide, those who, you know, are stuck in a lifestyle that's making them unhappy. The Christian community always speaks to the truth of the dignity of the human person, no matter your sins, no matter your circumstances. And that's why it's so crucial to have it at the front of an ethical discussion like euthanasia, because it's very unnatural to want somebody to kill you or to kill yourself.
John Solomon
Yeah, amen for that.
Amanda Head
Absolutely spot on. Every life is worth preserving. Young, old, doesn't matter. CEO and President for 40 Days for Life Sean Carney. Always a blessing having you with us. I think he caught himself for a moment. I think he realized what he said, but then he just made it worse by saying, oh, well, not 960. 940.

I don't understand it. Although maybe the most understandable part is that he got 960 on his SATs. I kind of believe that, actually. But the rest of it does. You know, it shows you how out of touch elitists are. But the people they claim to represent or want to help, they just don't get everyday people because they don't live among them.
Amanda Head
Who needs SAT scores to get elected when you got hair gel? That's what he's got. All right, John, an incredible moment on what morning was that? Sunday morning. The days are running together for me with all the travel woes, but of course, the US Men won the Olympic gold and I'm married to a Canadian. So that was an interesting family thread for me to be on. I was gracious. I didn't say a word. I just send all of my favorite memes to my husband. But on the women's side of things, Tia Mitchell, who is on the US Women's hockey team, said that President Trump and Cash Patel interjected themselves into what could have been a politically neutral moment. Now, what's interesting to me, John, is that Democrats never miss a chance to inject themselves into anything. But President Trump just wanted to celebrate them in. And Cash Patel has been a lifelong huge hockey fan. So he was able to go to the locker room. It wasn't a planned appearance, but he went and he celebrated our guys.
John Solomon
Yeah, I thought it was fine. It was great. I didn't see the clip, but I got to tell you this. There is something that Caspertel achieved in Italy had nothing to do with the Olympics. It wasn't a freebie hockey trip. There was something going on. You're going to learn about what that is. And then when they find that out and then you realize, oh, he made time to go see the hockey team because he likes hockey, like he did with Ovechkin and others. It's a great moment. Listen, we don't have to fight all the time. For some reason, the left just wants to be victimized by everything that goes on every day. It's tiring. For God's sakes, just enjoy the gold

John Solomon
He's a blast to watch. He's just so funny. I, I, well, I won't tell this story because it involves it. I will tell the story. He was at a gridiron dinner a few years ago, and he said, we're all worried about people chronic absenteeism in high school. So we've raised the drinking age in, in Alabama to 28. And all the Alabamas just went at him and we're giving it to him. But he's just so funny. He has a way of just knowing his crowd and finding that moment that'll create that smirk and, and laugh. He's. We need more humor in politics, too. Less recrimination, more humor.

This episode of "Just the News No Noise" centers around anticipation and analysis of President Trump's first State of the Union address of his second administration. Hosts John Solomon and Amanda Head present a conservative critique of the current political landscape, focusing on contrasts between Republican and Democratic approaches to governance, major issues like border security, the economy, foreign policy flashpoints (Iran, Mexico, China), and cultural debates. Notable guests include Reps. Mark Harris and Tom Barrett, security expert Steve Yates, and 40 Days for Life’s Sean Carney.
President Trump’s Address:
Democratic Resistance:
Discussions stress the correlation between secure borders and decreased crime, trafficking, and exploitation.
Sheriff Milby’s comment highlighted: failing to support border security is tantamount to supporting crime ("sex trafficking, child exploitation...").
President Trump is praised for fulfilling promises on border security, with claims that the majority of Americans support these efforts.
Decries Democratic lack of decorum—urges unity for historical moments, regardless of party in power.
Lists Republican and Trump administration successes: crime rate drops, border security ("lowest number of murders since 1900"), deportation figures.
Warns Democrats will continue “impeachment after impeachment” and filibustering if they regain the House.
Emphasizes the need for effective Republican communication and referencing the Save America Act for election integrity.
Highlights economic reforms: no taxes on overtime or tips, tax relief for seniors, expanded child tax credit.
Cites real-world impact: lower taxes, lower prescription drug prices, affordable essentials ("Eggs... back down to $2 a dozen.").
Emphasizes housing policy aimed at preventing large entities from crowding out first-time homebuyers.
On aviation safety, describes legislative initiatives to enhance safety protocols after recent crashes, leveraging his background in army aviation.
On opioid and fentanyl crisis: Expresses pride at recent reductions in overdoses, attributes success to border enforcement and recovery investment.
Advocates for regime change in Iran, citing personal losses and emphasizing support for Iranian protestors.
Analysis of administration’s strategies on Iran (deterrence, regime change without open war), Mexico (anti-cartel cooperation), and China (trade, human rights).
Noted presence of activists and victims in the House chamber as symbolic statements (Jimmy Lai’s daughter, Sage Blair).
Advocates new approaches to the "Space Race"—public and private partnerships to surpass Artemis program achievements.
Discussion about physician-assisted suicide legislation, especially in New York State (with comparison to Canada’s expanded euthanasia laws).
Ethical, theological, and societal implications are explored; concern about devaluation of life for economic reasons.
Carney argues for the pro-life position, emphasizing the unique advocacy of Christianity and the importance of protecting vulnerable people.
Discussion also touches on Trump’s effectiveness in humanizing political stories and the importance of highlighting overlooked victims (e.g., survivors of trafficking).
"Tonight, the president will create an extraordinary contrast... between what’s happened in his first year of the presidency versus... Biden."
— John Solomon (02:27)
"It’s the same tired playbook... Republicans don’t do that."
— Speaker Mike Johnson (06:48)
"When a party has been taken over by the far left... all you can do is create chaos."
— Rep. Mark Harris (09:38)
"We're already seeing better and higher tax returns... especially the hard working Americans."
— Rep. Tom Barrett (20:39)
"There’s every reason to be worried about cartels that have tentacles into our country..."
— Steve Yates (35:10)
"They just really want to get to whatever answer that they can get to euthanize anyone for any reason..."
— Sean Carney (45:50)
"You're going to require somebody to show two forms of ID to shovel snow, but not to vote?" — Senator John Kennedy (56:58)
The episode delivers commentary from a firmly conservative, America-first perspective, emphasizing Republicans' claimed achievements and criticizing Democrats for obstruction, elitism, and "drama." There is a strong focus on traditional values (border security, family, decorum), defense of the vulnerable, and the importance of communication strategy. Throughout, hosts blend pointed critiques with occasional humor, analysis, and advocacy, aiming to energize their audience ahead of a major political address and the coming electoral cycle.
