This is an iHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Well, good evening, everyone. Welcome to Stitchfield. Worthless spineless rhinos strike again. In South Carolina, five Republican senators in the state Senate sided with Democrats to scuttle the plan to redistrict South Carolina. Republicans would have been able to pick up one seat, giving them an overwhelming majority of every congressional seat. Instead, these five rhinos ignored President Trump, including the leader of the state Senate, said, we're not going to do it. Now the governor in South Carolina has the ability to call a special session. I would urge him to do that. There is good news, though, when it comes to the redistricting front. Alabama's doors have been opened now with this latest Supreme Court ruling about how states can draw their maps. Alabama was hamstrung by a lower court ruling. This ruling now allows it to go back and redraw the maps. That's exactly what it is going to do. As you can imagine, Democrats like Carville are. Are apoplectic. My heart is heavy for the country because we see that this is going on all across the south and it's important for people to realize that this isn't happening in a vacuum. This isn't a plan that. Not him. James Carville, 12. There we go. There's nothing legit about these people. I have no code of ethics. Were rammed through or delayed by the Congress.
B
They stole elections. And I got news for you, Johnny
A
boy, you might be looking at another 12 colleagues instead of eight because the country is sick of your bullshit. I got you, Jimmy boy. I'm sick of your bull corn, quite frankly. He's talking about John Roberts in the Supreme Court, about packing the Supreme Court. Well, guess what? They're going to have to take Congress and they're going to have to presidency in order to make that happen, which the Democrats fully plan on doing. This redistricting plan of ours could stop them in their tracks. President Trump is happy about it. In fact, he's so happy about it, he even pokes the bear a little bit, which I love. Well, I think it's been a wonderful process. They've been the Democrats, or as I call the Democrats, they are dumped. The company wins. They've redistricted for years and now we took our shots and it looks like we're going to pick up a lot of seats and that's a good thing. Did he just say the Democrats? Because why have I never used that before? The Democrats? It's a great line. Don't forget Florida. We picked up four seats. Listen to this list. Texas, five seats. Ohio, we have two seats there. North Carolina, Tennessee and Missouri, each one seat. Louisiana and Alabama could pick up one to two seats. Now you take out California and the Democrat gains, we could pick up anywhere between, I don't know, my guess would be seven and 10 seats for Republicans. This is a big deal for us heading into the midterms. So what do Democrats do? They dispatch the legal team. You know, this guy, Mark Elias, he has been fighting President Trump and Republicans for as long as I can remember. He's paid by the Democrat billionaires. Here he is on his plan to go to Florida and start a legal war there. Against all of that backdrop, have we learned nothing? I mean, have we learned nothing? Has the broader legal community not learned anything? Have the. Have the broader. Other than the civil rights groups, have people not learned that when you do this to black voters, it turns out bad for democracy for everybody? So, yeah, I'm angry. I'm angry because of the appalling silence that's going on right now around, around this case and the aftermath. I'm angry that Democrats are so focused on race. Knock it off. America was founded on the premise that we should be colorblind. You have equal representation no matter what color you are. I'm happy to have a black representative as long as he's a free market. Make America great again. Conservative don't care what color they are, but they do care what color they are. That's what this is all about. They're the racists in all of this. Make no mistake about it. I want to bring in now senior legal fellow at Advancing American Freedom, our good friend Hans von Spakowski is back. Hans, welcome to the program.
B
Sure, thanks. And look, you are absolutely right. In all their teeth gnashing. What they're saying is they're upset, upset that the Supreme Court basically is enforcing the 15th and 14th Amendments to the Constitution, which say you cannot engage in racial discrimination in the voting context. And that's what Democrats want to do.
A
And so Hunt, they specifically drew districts in many of these states that lumped in all black folks, lumped in all Hispanic votes, and they wanted that based off of color. That makes no sense when you look at what America really should be all about. And that's being colorblind, Right?
B
Right. No, no, that's very true. And it also reveals, frankly, what I consider to be a very racist attitude. They believe that your political beliefs are dependent on your skin color. I mean, that's what's behind this push to allow race to be used as the primary factor in drawing up districts. You know, the words carved on the outside of the Supreme Court's building in Washington are equal justice under the law. And that's exactly what the Supreme Court said has to happen two weeks ago when they issued this decision in Louisiana.
A
I guess, look, I don't want to be a hypocrite here, but maybe I'm disappointed in Republicans. Why haven't they been screaming and yelling that there's not one Republican member of Congress in New England in all of these states? Not. Not one. And all of a sudden, now the Democrats are yelling and screaming. They've been doing this to us for years, Hans.
B
Well, that is absolutely correct. I mean, the most annoying thing I keep hearing from the left stream media as well, Republicans started this wrong. Look at blue states, places like Massachusetts. Massachusetts. Trump got about a little more than a third of the vote there in the 2024 election. Yet out of the nine congressional seats, all nine were configured to ensure Democratic victories. And it's like that in almost all of the blue states, either no Republican representation or. Or they've minimized it to as small a number as they geographically can.
A
All right, do I have this right about Alabama, that the reason Alabama can now open it up to redrawing the maps is a lower court had ruled they had to look at race when drawing the maps, and so now this is upended by this latest Supreme Court ruling. Is that the gist of it?
B
Yeah. When. After the 2020 census. And they. When they created their new congressional seats, they did what they've done for decades. They created one black majority district, but they were sued by who? Democrats. And they convinced a lower court to order the state to create a second black majority district. Obviously, that second district, they had to use race to draw the lines. And yes, that Louisiana decision totally upends that. That. That order of the lower court has been dissolved so the session can go forward in the Alabama legislature.
A
All right, real quick, look, Mark Elias, he's a Democrat legal eagle for them. He's a pretty successful guy at this. You know, whether he's a good lawyer, bad lawyer. He knows what he's doing when it comes to pushing the Democrat agenda. Do we have to worry about him going to Florida now and some other court cases, or are we pretty insulated now because of the Supreme Court?
B
Well, he makes a lot of money filing lawsuits, but, you know, he. He has pretty much a losing record, and a lot of people don't realize that. There have already been several lawsuits filed down in Texas, I'm sorry, in Florida. But they're not using the Voting Rights Act. They are using the state constitution, a provision that was put in by referendum a couple of years ago that basically says you're not supposed to favor one political party or incumbents when you do redistricting. Florida says, however, or they, the government says they believe that provision is unconstitutional under the U.S. constitution. Why? That provision also said they have to give special consideration to racial groups and that that potentially violates equal protection.
A
Yeah, sure does. It's interesting stuff. Hans von Spakovsky, it's always great to have you on the program laying it out for me. I appreciate you, sir. Thank you.
B
Thanks for having me.
A
Absolutely. All right, so what do the Democrats have? They have literally no policy ideas. They have no solutions. They're wrong on every issue. And I mean every issue they are wrong on. So they've got this claim that Republicans are racist. You ready for the. It's the, it's a resurrection of an old phrase. Watch 21st century version of Jim Crow in New Clothes. Do you agree? Absolutely, I agree. So much so that I've been saying this now for the last four or five years and people been looking at me as if I'm crazy or something. All right, Tapper said it. Jim Crow, here they come with Jim Crow 2.0, which is really like Jim Crow 18.0. Republicans are racist, but they forget that this argument backfires on them every time. Still. This is msnbc. My heart is heavy for the country because we see that this is going on all across the south. And it's important for people to realize that this isn't happening in a vacuum. This isn't a plan that just came up because Donald Trump said to go redistrict. This is the product of a 60 plus year plan to bring this country into Jim Crow 2.0. Oh, Jim Crow 2.0. Just so you believe me that I believe they're all together. This is all part of the talking points. It gets emailed out to everybody. Ali Velshi, What is it? 13 wannabe dictator facing the electoral consequences of his deeply unpopular regime. But two major developments in recent days have turned this cynical Trumpian scheme into a real time deconstruction of our multiracial democracy. What we're witnessing as a result is
C
the dawn of a new Jim Crow era.
A
A new Jim Crow era. Yeah. Again, they have nothing. I want to bring in to discuss this senior politics reporter for the Daily Caller, Ashley Brassfield is with us. Ashley, welcome to the program.
D
Well, thank you for having me. And I feel like It's Jim Crow 200.0. I know you said 17, but I go a step further.
A
It is true. They don't have anything else right now. You spend a lot of time covering politics. Are you seeing what I'm seeing with this Jim Crow 2.0? I've always heard it, but I don't know. I watched Sunday morning. It was everywhere. This phrase.
D
Yes, Well, I think it's obviously a Democrat talking, because I think at a basic level, you basically say with the civil rights era, there was no benefit from it. And if they're willing to back that argument up, I challenge them on that. But, you know, as someone who's from Atlanta, Georgia, home of Martin Luther King Jr. And I had to sit through the 2020 election. Stacey Abrams battling out with Brian Kemp. You know, this is kind of where this argument came in, remember, with the voting ID that happened within the state. And, you know, that, you know, having to show ID is a racist, I guess, earmark in a lot of ways. But, I mean, I would even challenge that this deep redistricting fight that's happening in states like Louisiana, Alabama, South Carolina, across the Southeast, that's the only, you know, tactic that they can have. And, you know, Maxwell Frost, you showed a clip of him. He's from the great state of Florida, one of the Democrats and one of the singular Democrats there. But he, because he's from somewhere in the Southeast, he feels like he can make make that argument. But I think we're looking at something that's been happening for years now. You can go back to former Attorney General Eric Holder, where Obama left office, and he really started this fight in places like Alabama. And, you know, with the Alabama mats, specifically in this case, with the redistricting and the Jim Crow 2.0 that they're alleging. I mean, this took place in 2023, and the Supreme Court ruled in favor after the callous case in Louisiana. So I think you're seeing the outcome. And I mean, Alabama could have really taken it a step further and gone 70 on this, but they still have that 61 battle going on.
A
All right, let me play you a clip of Hakeem Jeffries because he has another plan as well. You know, again, they can't win on policies, so rig the system. Watch Hakeem Jeffries make sure we pass the John Robert Lewis Voting Rights Advancement act so we can end the era of voter suppression in the United States of America once and for all. We have to end Citizens United States dramatically reform our campaign finance laws to stop the ability of these deep pocketed special interests to intervene. And we are going to have to explore massive judicial reform state by state and at the federal level. And everything should be on the table as far as I'm concerned. Ashley is a lot in there, but one he wants to stop dark money in politics. The Democrats are the kings and queens of dark money in politics, Ashley.
D
Well, we saw a special election happen in Tennessee, 7th district where this exact thing happened. And they were funding, you know, Republican candidates, the dark money and Soros groups. So this is nothing new. The Daily Caller has been covering it for, you know, years now, I would say. But you know, with the redistricting effort, this is their battle back after Virginia and their loss after spending $5 million there and the Supreme Court of Virginia striking it down, of course. What is Hakeem Jeffries doing now going after the Supreme Court justices and to change the law in the state, which I, I assume that that's the next step for them. And now, you know, with Republicans battling back within southeast states and we saw an effort try, they tried in Indiana where it ultimately failed. But I mean, it's not just red states that are, this is happening. We saw Illinois earlier last year, of course, California saying that they're going to go against Texas after their redistricting, after they took in probably thousands of Californians, if not millions, after Covid time. So I think you have to take a look of who's the party that's doing it better over the last few years. But I mean, it's not a new battle in any way. I think we're just in a midterm year and this is some of the effects you're seeing because of that.
A
Yeah. So spot on. Ashley Brassfield, great job. I'm so glad you came on. You were supposed to come on last night. President Trump trumped you. I apologize about that. But please come back. Host of Speak the Truth pod Excuse me. I appreciate you being here. Thank you for coming on, Ashley.
D
Well, thank you for having me on. We're living on Trump time, as I say.
A
Absolutely. It is great to have you on. And we are on Trump. You know, when President Trump is coming, we're going to carry him on this network, that's for sure. Now I want to move to Iran. This is President Trump on the prospects of a deal.
E
At what point are you done negotiating with Iran?
A
Well, we're going to see what happens. We're only making a good deal. We have their military is gone. It's wiped out. And we're only going to make a good Deal and we'll see what happens. But I believe that one way or the other, it's going to be very good for the American people and I think actually very good for the Iranian people. So I think it'll be very good for the Iranian people, not the Iranian regime. President Trump hopeful, but in another breath, what I'm hearing is he is this close to lighting that place up. And quite frankly, I will say it again, it is high time we get to it. I'm tired of the stock market ups and downs. I'm tired of the oil ups and downs. Just turn that place into, quite frankly, a parking lot. Okay? Don't go after the innocent civilians. I'm not saying that. When I say parking lot, I mean critical infrastructure, the oil refineries and all of the buildings that house the heads of this regime and be done with it once and for all. As President Trump says, it'll take decades for them to come back from it. That's what I am ready for now. I trust him to handle this. Now. Inside the halls of Congress, Pete Hegseth, our Secretary of War, had to go up against very negative Democrats in the United States Senate. They're so rooting against America, you can see it. It's pathetic. It's actually awful to watch. Here's Hagseth with Senator Chris coons. My concern, Mr. Secretary, is that you've achieved a series of tactical successes but are on the verge of a strategic loss. Because we are now negotiating just to get so foolish. Here we are on a committee in the United States Senate, 74 days in, and you're talking about strategic loss. We have the ability, 47 year threat of a pursuit of a nuclear weapon. We have more leverage than we've ever had. We have. We've had incredible battlefield successes. And you're talking about a strategic loss, Mr. Secretary. Disingenuous questions, Mr. Secretary. This is how you. Mr. Secretary, that could otherwise and are otherwise. I am not your enemy, sir. You are, Chris Coons, you and the rest of the Democrats. When you root against the American military, in my mind, you're the enemy. At least a political enemy. And we will destroy you at the ballot box. That's the whole goal right now. I am so not into this idea of working with any of them. I am into the idea of steamrolling the left, literally steamrolling them and taking over every seat. I would like a unanimous Republican Congress and Senate. I know that'll never happen, but that's what I strive for and that's what we should all be striving for here because he gave the prime example. This. This campaign in Iran, this special operation has been one of the most successful military operations in the history of the United States, and the Democrats can't admit it. Here's Senator Patty Murray, also a Democrat.
E
Is it your position, since you're asking taxpayers for another half a trillion dollars for the war, that American families should be forced to give up child care
A
and health coverage so that you can
E
have one and a half trillion dollars for this budget?
A
Senator, that's. That's not my department. I certainly support this. And I also support the President's efforts to find and remove fraud wherever possible, in a general sense. And we do that in our department as well. Yeah, 1.5 million. You should talk about daycare for people. We're trying to stop a nuclear bomb from landing on a daycare. They don't have any concept that none of what they're talking about matters if we're all dead. And that's not hyperbole, by the way, that is what Iran wants. All of us dead. So now I'm worried about Democrats, and I'm watching this hearing. Lo and behold, remember, we said worthless, spineless Rhinos. Senator Lisa Murkowski. She's a Republican in name only, and she's causing headaches for our Secretary of War, who doesn't have enough to deal with with the Democrats in the room. We now have to have a Republican give him. Ajita.
E
And so the question to you is, is whether or not the administration has, has considered or had intended to seek an authorization of use of military force from the Congress.
A
Senator, our view is that should the President make the decision to recommence that, we would have all the authorities necessary to do so. Which means, like every president before him, Democrat and Republican, he's not coming to get the approval of Congress. That's not what the Commander in Chief needs. History has told us that. So knock it off. Lisa Murkowski, please. Now, General Dan Kane, who's been, I think, a great leader through all of this, he was asked about the campaign against Iran from a military and economic standpoint. Here was his answer, with a hat
B
tip towards Secretary Besant, Secretary Rubio, and the rest of the interagency. The totality of total pressure, which the military element is just one component on, is what the regime in Iran is feeling right now. And I think there's no shortage of ability to hold that pressure. The decision on for how long to hold that pressure is, of course, a political one. And within our civilian leadership,
A
it really comes down to President Trump. He's the sole decision maker on all of this. So I would urge President Trump, this, we need this, this special operation in Iran, this war in Iran to be over. End it for the good of the American people, for the good of the Iranian people. It's time to come to an end. We can't wait for Iran to come back with a deal. There is no deal coming. Mr. President. I hate to break the news to you. There is no deal. It is high tide. You show them what the deal is, and that looks like a ballistic missile headed right for them. I'm telling you, that's the only thing that's going to end this right now. All right, folks, listen up. This may be one of the most compelling domestic energy opportunities I've seen in years. It's an investment in Lost Soldier Oil and Gas in Wyoming's Bison Basin, a region with a long history of producing strong fundamentals when it comes to oil and gas projects. Where Lost Soldier already has rigs up, they've hit high pressure, stacked gas deposits. Now, let me be clear. There is certainly risk with this, but the upside is huge. This management team has taken two companies already public 100 to one and a thousand to one on money. There's royalties and overriding royalties. When it comes to the gas play, there is tax advantages because of Trump's big, beautiful bill that you will not even believe. You got to take a look at this project. So there is a webinar taking place Thursday. I will be hosting it with the entire leadership team of Lost Soldier Oil and Gas. You can sign up for that webinar on the website. Click on the the website lostsol.com or scan the QR code that you see on your screen there. It'll take you to the website, fill out the form, sign up for the webinar or a member of the team will get right back to you. If you want to get into this right away. Law soldier dot com. That's lost soldier dot com. All right. A California mayor has been caught acting as an agent of China. Next. Welcome back, everyone. As many of you know, FBI Director Cash Patel is a good friend of this program. Heck, he's a good friend of mine. This is how an TIFA welcomes him to Portland, Oregon, where he is attending the funeral of a friend of his that he actually was one of the pallbearers at. Look at this despicable behavior. That folks is outside of his hotel and these goons on the street even admitted. We're not even sure if it's his hotel, but they figured they'd go out there in the middle of the night and disrupt everybody. He's there for a funeral. Have some dignity, my Lord. It's unbelievable to me, the behavior of those on the left. Then we turn to California. We just head down the coast a little bit. To more lunacy. A California mayor is now under arrest. She is set to plead guilty, we are told, for acting as a spy for China. The mayor of Arcadia, California, her name is Eileen Wang. She is charged as acting as an illegal agent of China. I think we have a picture of her, if we can. Eileen Wang, the mayor. There you go. Eileen Wang. Look at her. Good. Because she was fooling all the people while she was actually acting as an agent of China. It's pretty awful. This is the acting U.S. attorney, and
F
she worked in the United States for another government, for its officials. She executed directives.
A
She did what they told her to do.
F
They'll give her praise for how well she's doing, and she'll say, thank you, leader.
A
All right, here's a quote. Prosecutors believe that, or prosecutors tell us that she has admitted to being under, and I quote, the direction and control of China. Unbelievable. I want to bring in now to discuss this former Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman under President Trump. And attorney Katie Zakaria is with us. Katie, welcome to the program.
E
Thank you so much. Out here in California.
A
Out in California with all the crazies, what do you make of this? A sitting mayor in the United States on the take, I guess, and working for China.
E
Well, it's no surprise out here in California where we're a sanctuary jurisdiction and we have very little, and have had very little review of who's coming over our border. But Eileen Wong has been in the United States for 30 years. She is a lawful permanent resident and a green card holder. And somehow in all of this time, she hasn't been evaluated by our current USCIS under dhs, and she's just kind of, you know, rose to. To a mayoral candidacy. Under what? Under working for the People's Republic of China as a foreign agent for the ccp, peddling Chinese communist propaganda, not just to her local Arcadia area, which I call Little Beijing. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who speaks English there. Truly, it's become unrecognizable to native Californians, but to the larger San Gabriel Valley and even the Chinese community across California.
A
Katie, She's a green card holder. She has a work permit. She's not even a U.S. citizen, not
E
even a U.S. citizen. But this brings into question the birthright citizenship because she has two sons that were born here. But this goes all the way back to what President Trump has been saying with birthright citizenship. And this really big debate in the United States Supreme Court right now on whether or not we reevaluate this. And this situation in particular in the dissent of the case that the Supreme Court leans on, which is Wong Kim Ark. They basically, the dissent outlines this exact scenario where you have someone who essentially has an allegiance to another foreign country and then they have children, and those children should not be United States citizens. On this. I know it's a red herring, but it is very, very valid and in this particular set of circumstances.
A
Katie, think about this. So. And I'm just stunned. We have a city councilman in L. A that's talking about letting illegals or noncitizens, even if you have a green card, anybody that's a noncitizen vote in city elections. Here you have a mayor that clearly isn't an American citizen. She was allowed to run and be voted in as, as a mayor. I'm surprised she's even allowed to vote in the city election. So Arcadia must have that in place. Then you've got her working with the ccp. Then she has kids that were born. This is like everything President Trump has been talking about all rolled up in one case. Katie.
E
Yes, and it's. But it really brings into, really under the microscope a wholesale review of who is in our country. President Trump called on the Department of Homeland security to reevaluate 19 specific countries.
A
Right.
E
Hostile regimes like Iran and the People's Republic of China. And we just, not that long ago, maybe two or three weeks ago, we just arrested a woman. Our local U.S. attorney, Billa Saleh, just arrested a woman for peddling, being an Iranian arms dealer and still holding a what valid green card. So we not only need to deport all of the criminal illegal aliens that have no legal status here, but we also need to reevaluate who is sitting in our country as a, quote, lawful permanent resident or while either working on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party and peddling CCP propaganda or working on behalf of them or spying on Americans or an Iranian arms dealer and making money on dealing arms against one of our biggest adversaries of whom we're at war with right now and, or maybe not an official war, but we're in act in active engagement, and yet they're just sitting in our country. This is extremely problematic. It needs to start with California. There Needs to be a complete upside down approach. We have to go all the way back through these records and look at who's living in our country.
A
Well, look, it would be easy to pounce on California because, you know there's a problem there. But I promise you, this is going on in probably every state across the country. Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee was calling out specifically this problem with China. Roll that clip for me, guys.
F
The spies are among us. China will lie cheat steel in order to get our intellectual property. And the CCP is involved in this, whether it is embedding spyware into some of their hardware for our online systems, whether it is trying to get into research institutions.
A
Katie, last question for you. You know President Trump personally. You work for the man. Do you think he brings this up with Xi Jinping and his meeting in China coming up?
E
Well, I was a corporate lawyer in Beijing and I lived there for three years and I witnessed exactly what Senator Blackburn is talking about. And they don't care about patents, they don't care about intellectual property. They will steal exactly whatever they want and then repurpose it for their own goods. They're very good at replication. They're not very good at innovation. And so I hope President Trump does this. Looks like it's setting out to be what will be a rather friendly meeting and business conversations and hopefully, hopefully they can bring this up at the table. But I think President Trump has a pretty strong negotiating and deal making style and I know he will deliver results for the American people like he has so far.
A
I agree with you. Katie, where can people find you on social media?
E
I'm at Katie Zachariah. Z A C H A R I A and on X, on Instagram, on LinkedIn. You go find me. I'm all over YouTube and all over all these other networks talking about what a great president President Trump is.
A
Katie Zachariah, thank you. Always good to see you. I appreciate you coming on.
E
Thank you.
A
All right. All right, folks, firearm background checks are failing the American people in a big way. By the way, we've got the numbers next. And welcome back, everyone. So you know me, I am a big proponent of gun ownership, the second amendment and any law abiding citizen who wants a gun should be able to get it. Now, what happens when law abiding citizens are wrongly flagged as not passing a background check because of a wrong name was put in because of a clerical error, Whatever it may be. This happens a lot. How do we know? Our friends over at the Crime Prevention Research center did some research Take a look at this. In 2022, there were 131,865 denials of the gun background checks that led to 18 indictments and only three convictions. Three convictions. Take the indictment. Say they had bad. I was gonna say the S word. Say they had bad prosecutors. 18 out of 116,000. That means the rest. In my mind, they weren't felons trying to get a gun. These were wrong. Go to 2023. 116,587 denials, 14 indictments, five convictions. That means you have hundreds of thousands of gun owners being denied a firearm because of mistakes in the background system. I have a problem with that. A guy I'm not a big fan of, Congressman Massie, has a bill to correct it. So I'll give him kudos when he's got a bill up to fix problems that I need fixed. Roll it. There's inherent racism in the NICS background check system because it's sloppy and they check only phonetically similar names. And when you go to purchase a gun, you can be deprived of purchasing that gun, and the appeals process can get messy to prove you're not the same person that they think is the person who's prohibited. Name. You got a common name. Your last name is Johnson. This happens probably all the time. Now, I want to bring in the man who conducted this study, and really, I believe it's an eye opener. The president of the Crime Prevention Research center, our friend Dr. John Lott. John, welcome back.
G
It's great to talk to you. Thanks for having me on.
A
All right. These are really stunning numbers. When you say only 14 indictments, 18 indictments out of hundreds of thousands of denials, what were the other ones? They were all just wrong.
G
You know, you talk to people involved in enforcing these cases, and they say they'd love to bring charges against people if they were real cases. But it's one thing to go after a felon who tried to buy a gun illegally. It's another thing to go after someone simply because they have a roughly phonetically similar name and similar birthday to a felon. And the problem is that, as Massie was correctly pointing out, the mistakes overwhelmingly occur with Hispanic and black males. 33% of black males in the United States have felony records. About 18% of Hispanic males have felony records. About 6% of whites, about 1 1/2% of Asians. Well, Hispanics have names similar to their Hispanics. Blacks tend to have names similar other blacks. And so you have a law abiding black or Hispanic Male who wants to go and get a gun to protect himself and his family and simply because he has a roughly phonetically similar name and similar birthday to somebody who is prohibited, who you do want to stop, they're prevented from being able to go and buy a gun. Now they can go and appeal, but you're talking about thousands of dollars for them to go and hire a lawyer to go and do that. So you're going to have a lot of middle income and lower income individuals who may want to have a gun. But is it worth $3,000 to them to be able to go and hire a lawyer to navigate the process there?
A
John, there's so many things in this story that I take away because we in this country do about 15 to 20 million background checks for gun purchases year. That means you've got only 14, 15, 18 of those each year result in an indictment. You're not stopping many felons. They tell us they stop 5 million felons from getting guns when they add up all of these things. But you're stopping a handful of people maybe.
G
Right? You know, it's the mistakes. Over 99% of the people who are stopped are mistakes. You know, so criminals may be stunned, but they're not.
A
So what's the percentage of people stopped? That's correct.
G
Well, if you look at convictions, you're talking about 0.003% of those who are stopped end up getting convicted. So that's.
A
So then I have to ask, I guess, do we need a background check system or maybe it serves as a deterrent. I don't know if there's any way to prove that though.
G
Well, undoubtedly makes it a little bit more difficult for criminals to go and get guns. But the problem is, is that you're making it so that law abiding citizens who want to be able to go and get a gun to protect themselves and their families. And if my research convinces me of anything, it's the people who need it the most. You're basically talking about poor minorities who live in high crime urban areas that you're preventing. Now one thing that's important is just when you look at the low rate that these people are convicted, you have to understand these are like the easiest cases in the world to get a conviction on. You have somebody who signs a form under threat of penalty of perjury that let's say they haven't been a felon in jail. They provided an ID to prove who they were when they tried to buy it. And very often it's on video So, I mean, it's. What are they going to do, say, well, I forgot I was in prison for five years? Is there.
A
We almost, we almost had Hunter Biden as one of these cases, wasn't a drug user. But, But. All right, last question. If you can really quick for me, because I'm tight on time, what's the solution to this? Is it an easy fix? John, real quick.
G
I think one easy fix is just to require that the federal government have to meet the same standards for doing background checks that private companies have to meet. If private companies, you know, bank or somebody else who's having a background check on employees had an error rate that was 1000th the error rate that the federal government has, they'd be sued out of business under federal law. But somehow the same rules that the federal government demands for everybody else aren't good enough for the federal government, of course.
A
And that's always the problem. Government can never do it as well as private companies can. Dr. John Lott, crime Prevention Research Center. We always love having you on. Thank you.
G
Thank you for being there.
A

I watch you every night from my office and I appreciate you sending me home from my long drive home every night after I watch your show. Sometimes I'm fired up. Other times I'm very relieved. But I want you to know I watch you every night, bro.
A
Well, I'll tell you what, Every Cowboy Logic is one of my favorite shows. And everywhere I go to speak to people, people tell me they're watching Cowboy Logic. And now you got a song to add to this. Every Star Every stripe. Tell me about how this came about.
C
Well, first of all, I don't sing. I don't want to claim that voice. It's a good voice. I don't want to claim it. I do write music. I write instrumental soundtracks. Been doing it since the late 80s. And my wife and co host Donna Fiducia encouraged me to get back into writing. After we tore the studio down to build a TV studio in our home, she encouraged me to get back into writing. She's helped me with lyrics. We're co writing things and we are using a platform that it would stun you to know how many recording artists, songwriters, especially out of that town in Nashville in the 615 area code, are using AI to assist them in their songwriting. And so we auditioned probably 40 male vocal AI vocalists to pick the one that we wanted for that song. We were. I'm going to guess, Grant, probably 400 revisions of that song with AI you can get in. It's an unbelievable toolbox for songwriters, producers, musicians. It would stun you at the number of bands that are using this. And I do need to give a big hat tip because right now that song is number one on the iTunes rock charts. It sat there all day. It's number four on all genres. So with your. With your fan base, ladies and gentlemen, you download this, we're going to take that number one spot in all genres on itunes. But listen, guys, number two and number three in the rock charts are some good friends of mine and a client of mine, Shinedown. They're in number two and number three. And I had to call them today and thank them for graciously allowing me to sit in that number one spot all day today.
A
Well, I love. Look, I've got. I've got buddies all over the place and they know on the golf course I love to kick their ass sometimes, too. So I'm proud of you for going right there up to the top. And it's a great song. I can't wait to hear the next one as well. And I would urge everybody out there, Stitchfield's army, RAV audience, go download this song. Don, I'm going to tell people exactly how to do it. Thank you. Every star, every stripe, right now on itunes. Just use that or the code on your screen. There's no. Oh, there it is down at the bottom. This episode typifies Real America’s Voice’s style: combative, direct, and skeptical of the political left and moderate Republicans. Key themes are election integrity and the legal/cultural battles over voting, skepticism of Democratic policy and tactics, alarm over foreign (especially Chinese) infiltration, and concern for Second Amendment rights. Sharp-tongued commentary and “in-the-tent” guest expertise make it engaging for the target audience.
