While the controversy surrounding Bad Bunny's super bowl performance, it's not going away. Roger Goodell, NFL commissioner, said that the platform was to be used to unite people and to be able to bring people together with their creativity. Well, so much for that. Because Bad Bunny performed the entire show in Spanish and not in English, most viewers had no idea what he was really saying. His lyrics, though, were vile and sexually explicit. The song lyrics would have been banned by the FCC if they had been done in English. Members of Congress, they're demanding a formal investigation into what happened. TP usa, they had a halftime show featuring Kid Rock that sent a message. Who was better, by the way? Tmz, an entertainment news site, asked its social media fans who was better in the super bowl halftime show, Bad Bunny or Kid Rock? About 300 and almost 400,000 votes, there was a clear winner. Kid Rock 64.5% to Bad Bunny at 35.5%. The ICE and the deportation issue, it's continuing. Vice President J.D. vance unleashed on Democrats this week for their violent rhetoric against ICE and law enforcement, calling out Gavin Newsom, by the way, by name, saying you have no place in the political conversation in the United States. The sayback is still in the middle of the media cycle. CNN reported last week national support for voter ID undercutting Democrat claims that Americans oppose the policy. White voters again, 85% want it. Latino voters, 82% want it. Black voters, 76% want it. Everyone's pushing the Save America Act. They want to make a photo ID the law. Here on the mental health and relationships front topic that's exploding on the scene right now is parental alienation and estrangement. It's become a really big issue inside of families today. We're hearing about people going no contact, ghosting between family members, children, parents, others. We're going to talk a lot about that and how prevalent it is and what we can do. It's also Valentine's Day weekend. The single Most shop day of the year this weekend, sharing a message with those that we love. Americans are projected to spend 29/plus billion dollars this year. It's interesting. It's all about love and times like these. Our hope, our strength comes from the Lord. Here's a great verse to hold onto this week. 2nd Thessalonians 2, 16, 17 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God the Father who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope. Encourage your hearts and strengthen you and every good deed and word. I'm going to pray and we're going to get started. God be with us. Guide our conversation. Use it for your glory. Use it for thank you for the freedom we have to share the good news and to encourage one another. And thank you for your steadfast love in our lives. In Jesus name, amen. Let's get started.

Rodriguez. He's the president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, the world's largest Hispanic Christian organization. He's also the lead pastor at New New Season Church in Sacramento, California. Sam, thank you for joining me.
Sam Rodriguez
Great to be with you, my friend.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Sam. The Super Bowl. Hey, the Super Bowl. Bad money. Oh my goodness, Sad, bad money. He was bad. I mean, hey, Roger Goodell, NFL commissioner, hugs on and kisses him. I don't know, you know, loving on after the deal and it's like, come on, maybe he didn't, maybe he didn't know what he was singing about or something. I don't know, Sam. But if he did, well, hey, most of the people did. And he was speaking. He was doing what in Spanish or something? Huh? Right, right. You understood what was going on. It's unbelievable.
Sam Rodriguez
Tim. Barely.
Troy Miller
Barely.
Sam Rodriguez
Okay, look, Tim, this may be an exclusive here, my friend. I am of Puerto Rican descent. My parents are born in Puerto Rico. So here comes the analysis. Let's break it down. One, not sarcastically, but jokingly stated, I understood it. Parts of it. It's not Spanish. So what he speaks is a very, let's just say broken down version of Spanish that is germane specifically to certain sectors of Puerto Rico. That it's difficult. And then he muffles it. Now, what really broke me was 250 years of America. 250 years. I mean if you would have done in the 251st year a 5 minute Spanish thing and I wouldn't really care, who cares? But the 200, the lack of respect for 250 years of history. Tim, you need to. You need to please help me understand Roger Goodell. What is his agenda? Like, what's his agenda, Sam?
Dr. Tim Clinton
He said it was gonna. He said it was gonna unite people.
Sam Rodriguez
You don't unite people with a language that only 40 million of the people actually understand. 310 million people look like this. Are you ready? That was it. And it's not that they were anti Spanish and anti Latin.
Dr. Tim Clinton
They didn't understand what we're.
Sam Rodriguez
So, no, that was just wrong. It was wrong. Number two, Tim, you made number two, the voice. It was horrific. The sound quality of what he brought forth was horrific. Even people that follow him and love him went like, oh, that went bad. That went bad. That went. Adele at the Grammys bad. That went bad. That went really bad. So across the board, Bad Bunny was one big X. But let's go back to Roger Goodell. The majority of owners of the NFL have a conservative worldview. We know that. We did an analysis. The majority have a. If you want to call it conservative, faith, family, freedom worldview, then why do they tolerate this? Is anyone going to speak up? And the owners of the Chiefs, who is a believer in Christ, would he stand up and say like, you know, no, absolutely not. Something has to happen in the NFL.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Sam, TMZ entertainment media site did a little polling afterwards, said, hey, who'd you like better? TP usa, Kid Rock Entertainment or Bad Bunny? And man, Sam, Kid Rock smoked Bad bunny. Yeah, listen, 300,000 people voted. He smoked him.
Sam Rodriguez
I am not a big Kid Rock fan.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Yeah, I get it. And I'm not either.
Sam Rodriguez
But I tell you, no, no, but what he did, Tim, was brilliant. He took the of his life from the sinfulness to the brokenness to the strip clubs. And he concludes with Jesus with a call for salvation. Dust off the Bibles.
Dr. Tim Clinton
It was unbelievable.
Sam Rodriguez
What it was. It was an evangelistic outreach via song. I congratulate him and applaud him. Well done.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Well, you know, social media was all over the map when it comes and you knew they would be everybody trying to, quote, control the narrative. Everything is about propaganda. At the end of the day, the ratings were down. They thought it was the largest audience in history. No, it wasn't actually dropped. And Sam, I'll tell you what, tpusa came back and said they're probably going to go ahead and start plans for 2027 already. I think there's some messaging going on. People are. People are tired of all this insanity.
Sam Rodriguez
Don't stop trying to shove your woke. Cancel Culture anti Judeo Christian value, worldview full of relativism, decadence and perversion down our throats. Just stop trying to indoctrinate us. All we wanted to do is have a good time, a good halftime show, right? But no, you had to make it into a preachy sermon of wokeism and cancel culture and the radical left. And guess what? It bombed. And I mean, literally, it bombed, but it bombed in a bilingual way. You know what's bad about bombing in a bilingual way? I don't like you either way. That's how bad it is. It was just progressivism, bilingual progressivism on steroids. And it bombed both in English and in Spanish. How about that? Good job.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Hey, hey, Sam. America 250. You referenced it earlier. I'm going to go there for a moment. The Olympics are on. The winter Olympics. Julie loves to get that stuff on. She loves that ice skating stuff, skiing and all that. And Sam, even in the middle of that, you got this. You got some athletes pushing back at them like, America, I'm not proud. And thank God you got some other people who are. Who are really proud of the stars and stripes, you know, I mean, at the end of the day, Sam, speak to us about where we're at in culture. Everybody has a right to an opinion. You know that. And it's okay to protest and things like that. But man, oh, man, where's the spirit of America?
Sam Rodriguez
Yeah. No, the spirit of America right now, unfortunately, is broken because of what we tolerated and permitted for an entire generation. We permitted a public school system to indoctrinate. We permitted universities and colleges funded by taxpayer money to indoctrinate with ideas of socialism and communism and wokeism. Again, everything antithetical to our Judeo Christian value system. I would even argue antithetical to human biology, physiology and science. We tolerated that for 40 years. We permitted this, and now we are reaping the consequences. However, Tim, let not your heart be troubled. We can turn this around. And I believe the past few years has been the pushback. I believe the entire Trump presidency has been the quintessential pushback politically. Now we need cultural, spiritual pushback that'll actually exceed the political pushback for the sake of. Of our children and our children's children. The Olympics that. That skater that went out there and said, you know, too woke blank, blank, blank, just wanted to go. I mean, yes, right there again, you have the cognitive bandwidth of a chestnut roasting on an open fire. So it's limited. They're just repeating the mantra. They have no idea what they're saying, and one day they'll regret that. However, I love the athletes that go up there with the American flag and say, I am so proud to be. You know what got me, Tim? The booing of JD Bands in the opening ceremony. Hey, Europe, you are alive because of the US of A. Remember that America. Notice how America is hated when America is strong and America is applauded in Europe when America is weak.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Yeah, Sam, I tell you, a lot of spin going on social media. I want to jump to the Epstein files. Sam. Really? I heard about it, that kind of thing. But went back and did a little work and Epstein island was in use. 1998-2019 victims overall, about 100 or so average age 12 to 17 years of age. People arrested, zero. But we saw a. As this stuff continues to leak, Bill Gates scandal. Then you got the Clintons who are being forced to testify, etc. Sam, it's a mess. At the end of the day, it really is a mess. What do you think this thing's going to?
Sam Rodriguez
Yeah, it's out of the lid, right. So you can't put a lid on it. That ship sailed. It's open and that box is open. It's going to a place where we're all coming to the realization that many of the conspiracy theories, that logical people like Tim Clinton and Sam Rodriguez, educated, logical people, would go, that's conspiracy theory. That's exuberant. That's just, that's beyond the rails. Many of these conspiracy theories were actually factually based and substantiated. It's going there. It's going to expose a. A gamut, a system, unfortunately, as part of the American reality. Not just America, but around the world, where pedophilia is a thing, it's going. Where abusing children is a thing, and the sexual exploits of the rich and famous. You know what? Everything that's done in darkness is brought to the light. That's the Apostle Paul writing to the church at Ephesus. I enjoy the fact that God will not be mocked. And these children who are victims of will now have their day in court, at least in the day of public opinion and justice will be served. It's unfortunate, it's tragic, it's horrific. I just, I don't enjoy the left versus right utilizing Epstein island because it's nonpartisan. You have people across the political spectrum, you know, participating. And then the recent uncovering of the email where President Trump called the law enforcement, right. And asked for that guy is a creep. He's doing nasty things. And it goes all the way back. So how about that again at the end of the day? Horrific, terrible. I think it requires America a second Chronicles 7:14 this and repent.
Dr. Tim Clinton

Hey Sean. As we get started, transgender ideology stuff continues just to be front and center. It's unbelievable how far the left has gone and they continue to go on this issue. But this week the governor of Kentucky comes out and he says he's going to use the Bible to justify the mutilation of children. You know what I'm saying? I mean, hey, even professional organizations are turning against all this stuff. The research is not there for them. It's just awful at the end of the day. But Shanae, he said something like he was concerned about bans on gender affirming care for minors, keeping boys out of girls restrooms basically, and requiring schools to tell parents if their child was experiencing gender dysphoria. What in the world Using the Bible?
Dr. Shawna Anderson
I think sadly, some people are blinded by the truth. We have had a lot of recent evidence expressed both through the CAST report, the HHS report, the WPATH Files that are indicating the intense ideology behind all of this and that it's not working and that it's not something that is actually beneficial for our children, as a matter of fact, actually causing even greater difficulties. And now to say that God sanctions it in his word, I, to be honest with you, I got nothing for you on that one because I don't understand.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Shanae in the midst of all this, there was this lawsuit that happened, I think it was in New York, pretty historic decision where a D transitioner was awarded, I think $2 million and the psychologists and some others were, I think, affiliated, associated, named in the court case. That's a big deal in when you think about mental health care and those who are involved in this whole process. Any reflections on that court case?
Dr. Shawna Anderson
I think that court case was huge. Not only did it affect the surgeon who actually did some gender affirming surgeries, but it was also the psychologist that wrote the letter granting this type of surgery. And we know that there has been a huge push in the field in the last five to 10 years about clinicians having to write these letters in order to give permission to surgeons to be able to conduct this work. And the horror stories of individuals going in to meet with a clinician sometimes for as little as just a handful of minutes that they say they're uncomfortable with their gender, they don't look at co occurring disorders, they don't really assess for deeper issues and nor do they give their time to actually really assess. Might there be other issues going on? I specialize in addictions and eating disorders and trauma. And so many individuals that struggle with those issues have body dysmorphia disorder and they hate their bodies, especially trauma survivors. And they wish they were a different gender, but it doesn't mean they have gender identity disorder. And I think back when I first started working in this field 30, 40 years ago, how many of my patients sadly might be struggling with similar issues today that they were able to work through this with really good trauma psychotherapy, good clinical counsel that has an individual look at perhaps their self hatred and the hatred of their gender because maybe that put them at risk for sexual trauma. And so I think pushing individuals to quickly be assessed, quickly have these surgeries, that you're just neglecting the overall mental health of these patients.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Shauna this week, last week I was up in Washington at the National Press Club and there was a meeting on behavioral health and some of the focus in there wasn't just on mental health, but it was also on addiction and recovery. And what we're seeing currently in the field. Secretary Kennedy and some others addressed those who are in attendance and talked a lot about kind of the breakdown in what's been happening inside that field. I know you've got a strong background in addictions treatment, but, Shauna, can you talk a little bit about maybe what's been happening in the field? There was really a strong emphasis in that meeting on the role of faith. Secretary Kennedy didn't hold back on how he felt faith was at the heart of his recovery. And he continues to go to meetings. I think he was tweeting a lot about this, but some thoughts from you about all this.
Dr. Shawna Anderson
I've actually been working in the substance use and addiction field for 40 years. And so I have seen all of the different waves of treatment. I was working in it in the late 80s and the 90s where insurance was covering 30 days of residential detox and extended residential and intensive outpatient. And I know so many individuals that were able to get sober and remain clean and sober for decades. I've also seen the switch into, you know, insurance restricting how much they will cover. I've seen everything, especially in Southern California, of, you know, the Malibu treatment centers where we charge a free fortune. I've seen it all. I've walked through it all. And I, I still believe in my heart of hearts. Having worked in this in so long is exactly what Secretary Kennedy agrees with and opines about. I've heard his story. He was a heroin addict for many, many years. And he really believes that the 12 steps of alcoholics Anonymous and actually having a higher power, believing in God, having faith to be able to turn over those drives and those cravings over to a power greater than yourself, being able to trust that God wants to heal you, learning that we sometimes have these battles inside of us that we cannot figure out on our own. And we know faith helps in mental health treatment, but I believe extreme, exceedingly so with those that are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Shanae, you know, people get caught up in social media. A lot of people sit and scroll for hours. People like some people call doom scrolling, maybe sit in the bed. They're now talking about bed rotting. You know, just teens in particular, just hours and hours on end laying in the bed, doing that kind of thing. It gets pretty dark, Shanae, and you can get over, get overwhelmed by the darkness. It's true. Seriously. And what happens is those algorithms then start just targeting you and pounding you with all kinds of innuendo and messaging that may just take you further and further in the abyss and helping people with everyday life issues. Shauna kind of press toward the light to find hope, to maybe create a new pathway, if you will, toward new life. What do you often encourage people? What's some SHAWN A. Anderson Gold Dopamine detox.
Dr. Shawna Anderson
It is literally putting down the cell phone and at minimum creating at least one day, if not an entire weekend or a week to actually put down the phone. Because we know all that constant scrolling, all of that constant technology into our brains is so not good. We're constantly flooded rapidly by all of the different things and all the technology that our brain is flooded by dopamine. And then when we push it, we put it down, we then crash and our body forgets how to make dopamine in some ways on its own. And so the importance of setting time limits, of how long you're going to remain on your phone, certain hours of the day when you do that, keeping the phone and out of your bed, keeping the phone away from the family meal table, away from classrooms, of really setting firm limits around it because it is like this portal that is so easy to get lost into. And there can sometimes just be almost like this tractor beam that pulls you into it. I know I've been stuck there a couple of times. And just the importance of actually reconnecting with people face to face. Relationships need to come back. We need to connect in person, no longer through text messages or through social media. It's really diminishing our ability to connect and our mental health.
Dr. Tim Clinton
I was talking to a mentor of mine, Shawn A. And he said I had to literally stop. I had to get off all the news channels and stuff. He said I was getting overwhelmed by it all. And I remember talking with a good friend. He's gone now, Larry Crabb, who said to me, tim, remember this thought? It's not really about the darkness. It's about the light. Amen. Let some light in. Light dispels darkness. I think when you press in close to the heart of God, when you take periods where you do detox and you rest, you hear what I'm saying, it just kind of charges the batteries back up and we're off and running all over again. But Shauni Anderson, always great to have you. Thank you so much for joining me.

Us now is President and CEO of NRB National Religious Broadcasters, Troy Miller. He's well, NRB is an organization that equips Christian communicators to share the gospel with excellence on radio, television and digital platforms. Troy, welcome back. Thank you for joining me.
Troy Miller
Oh, thanks for having me today. It's great to be with you again.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Troy. Broadcasting. You're in that big world. Listen, the Super Bowl. My goodness, what a platform. Bad bunny goodness. Halftime spectacle. Roger Goodell, NFL commissioner kisses him I'm thinking, what in the world is going on here? That was a mess. I'm telling you. What, What a mess. And by the way, majority of the people watching didn't even understand what he was singing because he was singing Spanish. But Troy, the lyrics, well, they, they were shared all over social media. Unbelievable. You can't get away with that in English, could you?
Troy Miller
No, you couldn't get away with that in English at all there. And I, I wouldn't even recommend anybody to go out and look at the lyrics, you know? You know, it was just terrible. Look. And look also, this was a political message too. With everything that's going on with immigration and with ICE and all that's going on in this country there. The fact that they chose Bad Bunny, who first of all doesn't even represent most Americans and the values of most Americans. Right. But they represented this. And then they did an all Spanish broadcast. How is that supposed to be celebrated in America? Who's going through 250 year anniversary here? This was a political message the network chose to send.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Troy, you got a big event coming up in Nashville. Opryland Hotel, Gaylord Opryland. Big place. I've been there many, many times. Tell us a little bit about what's happening.
Troy Miller
Yeah, this is the largest gathering of Christian communicators. It'll happen anywhere this year in the US or around the globe. We're expecting over somewhere near 6,000 people to be there. We run a number of things that are going to go on. We're going to have topics that cover everything that we're dealing with in the culture today, including Christian persecution, the weaponization of government, the biased and marginalization that Christians go through. We'll talk about the legal landscapes, all of those top issues, all the way down to hands on events that'll go if you want to learn how the latest audio tools or the latest video tools or how to podcast, all of that will be going in between until we're going to have a whole stage dedicated to artificial intelligence. To how is this going to impact you as a media producer? But more so, how should we think about it and impact us as Christians as we use these new tools to communicate out there? So it's going to be a great event. 230 plus exhibitors on our exhibit floor. Like I said, this is the largest gathering of Christian communicators. It'll happen anywhere around the globe.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Pretty big deal and critical especially I think in the faith space. Why I say that's because, Troy, if you're up on social media or up there tracking the news and stuff, you realize it's a propaganda war. You see all this scandal stuff going on, Troy, it's unbelievable. Everything they're uncovering. Look at the waste, fraud and abuse that's going on in states across the country. Look at this, this whole ICE issue, the deportation issue, and so much more. Look at Washington and Troy. It's all over the map. People attacking each other. You're using everything they can. And you realize it's like what in the world is happening to us? And we're getting overwhelmed. We're getting flooded in the midst of it. Having an anchor voice is everything. And being able to communicate truth boldly, especially in this hour, is everything. Don't you think so, Troy?
Troy Miller
Oh, no, absolutely. We are at a war. Not only, as you said, a propaganda war. Propaganda is the tools you're using. We're at a war for the worldview, for people's worldview. How do they look at the world? What's the lens you're going to look at it? Is it going to be through this socialist, progressive, leftist kind of lens that's out there, or is it going to be through a godly, biblical Christian worldview? And Tim, they would love nothing more than to silence, completely silence the Christian worldview, because that's the, that's the bulwark that's stopping them from running over the country and running. And it's so important for Christians to speak up. It's so important for us to be in the public space. We can't take our Christianity and hold it into the four walls of our church or the four walls of our home. We were never called to do that. As Christians, how do we be that light if we're underneath a basket that nobody can see? How can we salt if it stays in the cupboard and it doesn't season the culture? How can we be the city on the hill, that inspiration people have? We have to be active in the public sector as Christians.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Troy, you recently did some research with the Barna group on the state of Christian media. What did you find? I think this is really important because a lot of people think, ah, Christian stuff, second rate, you know, that cheesy, not going to watch it. People aren't. They're saying people are not watching it. Troy, what did you find?
Troy Miller
No, we found just the opposite. We did, we did this study in January. We wanted to set some benchmarks to understand, and we found out that nearly 60% of the country, this is the general population, tunes into some form of Christian media on a fairly regular basis. That was pretty amazing statistic that we found out. But dig a little deeper than that. Here's what we really got us. 64%, I think it was of the Gen Zers. 64% of Gen Zers are tuning into Christian media, mostly social, but 58% of the millennials. So a huge population of young adults are tuning in. And here's I think, the other big one. Why are they tuning in? What was we asked? Why are. What's the purpose you tuning in? They wanted answers to the alternatives that they were hearing from the secular side, secular media. They wanted to know more about God, they wanted to know about the Bible and they wanted to know how to have better relationships with their friends and the people in their lives. Isn't that amazing?
Dr. Tim Clinton
That's amazing, Troy. I think on social media this week we saw big college campus, I think University of Central Florida, where kids were just flocking to the altar, coming to Christ. People are saying that the younger generations are really showing up in mass. They want, they want to get, they want to press into the heart of God, like you're saying. Do you Detroit believe that's true?
Troy Miller
I do believe that's true. I do believe we're in a, in the sense of a revival of the younger generation. The fact that they're more curious, they're not blocking out Christianity. A lot of them, we've heard a lot of sort of anecdotal things that, oh, they're falling away from the church. They don't want to know about. That's really not true. Here's the other thing. Statistics, I think was really interesting in there. 66% of Americans, that's the broader Americans again, 66% found that Christian media was both valuable and trustworthy. And that's why they're tuning in. They know they can trust what they hear and they're finding value in it. Compare that to mainstream media, which is at the highest, it's in the mid-20s on that trustworthiness. So look, we have this young generation and they're hungry for the truth. They have been left empty by all of this garbage that has been fed to them and they're rejecting it at record levels.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Troy, that darkness, that woke ideology, it's heavy at the end of the day. And you know, these kids are getting targeted seriously online where those algorithms are just coming right at them, flooding them with all kinds of stuff. And here they are, doom scrolling, bedrotting, doing whatever they are. But hey, it's like we're done with that too. We're, we're over this stuff. Troy, in the midst of all of it, again, you guys are bringing some light into the darkness. Take us back to the Opryland, tell us the dates again. And can people still register, I guess, for your event?
Troy Miller
Yeah, you can still register right up to at the door. You can come on in and Register on site. February 17th through the 20th, Nashville, Tennessee, at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. It's going to be a great week. If you're at all involved in communications or just want to come out and see some of your favorite radio, television or pastors, you'll see them walk in the hall. You can join us. This conference really is for everybody.

Dr. Sharon May
Thank you Tim. So good to be with you today.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Sharon. Valentine's Day weekend yesterday, I mean everybody what I heard they were spending billions of dollars, unbelievable amount of money, single, probably greatest shopping day of the year to send a message that says I love you. Sharon, you've been working with couples relationship for a long time. Couple of thoughts from you on how and what makes love and life work.
Dr. Sharon May
Absolutely. And I'm the one that also bought a pound of chocolate for my sweetheart on Valentine.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Nice.
Dr. Sharon May
Absolutely. And you know we all want to know that I belong, I'm seen, I'm loved and I'm cared for. And we will go to great lengths, Tim, to find the person to love and to stay connected.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Yeah. My granddaughter Sophia, she said, papa, are you going to give me a valentine? That's what she said earlier this week I said, well, papa girl and baby girl, you guys are going to get all. Are you kidding me?
Troy Miller
Yes.
Dr. Tim Clinton
They've stolen their papa's heart. But, Sharon, love in life is. Goes across a multiple context. But one of the things that's really concerning me now is I'm seeing a lot of what people are calling like family estrangement. And we're hearing words like parent alienation. We're seeing a lot of brokenness where people are talking about going total cut off. They're ghosting and not communicating anymore. And, Sharon, there's a lot of pain that's going with this. What's behind a lot of what's happening.
Dr. Sharon May
Oh, Tim, you're so right. I in the counseling room have had a lot of couples come to talk about this issue that their adult children have cut them off and now they're not able to see the grandkids. And even having adult children come on in the counseling room saying, I just can't do this with my parents anymore. And I am seeing the longing for children and the parents to connect. But at the heart of all the differences of politics and mom, you criticize too much, or dad, you're just not emotionally there. At the heart of it is the longing to connect, to know that you love me and care for me. And the minute those alarms sound, I don't think you're there for me. You know, it creates this hurt, this pain, this anxiety. And then we try and find ways to soothe that pain. And today it is. I need to just then not be with you or take space from you. And it's not a solution, Tim. It might manage the anxiety for the moment, but it's not God's best or the solution for families.
Dr. Tim Clinton
Yeah, when I think about it, Sharon, I think of this no contact thing. That's a lonely road. You know that there's a lot of grief with it all. I rarely talked to anybody who felt like they. They were winning in the strategy. Yet a lot of people are going again, no contact. I'm talking no contact, they're out, I mean, gone type stuff. And I mean, and it's sad. Sharon, can you speak to the level of brokenness around this and how you begin to, I guess, address it?
Dr. Sharon May
Yes. Disconnection does not bring anything productive unless there is legitimate abuse. And definitely you're needing to put boundaries that say, no, you can't do that to me. So we're not talking about those cases where you need those boundaries in destructive, abusive relationships, but we're talking about, you know, mom and dad you weren't there for me as a child or growing up that I needed you. And now I'm hurt as an adult that you're continuing some of those hurtful things. And I don't know what to do with that pain. And so to reduce my anxiety, I don't deserve this. You're not going to treat me this way. Cutting off feels like it's productive, but it's not. It is destructive to ourselves, to the grandchildren and to the parents. There's nothing good that comes out of saying, I want nothing to do with you unless there's true abuse. So, you know, how do you start? First is acknowledging where you are in the family relationship. You know, I'm hurt by mom and dad. Mom and dad are not how I thought they would be. I needed this and didn't get it. So we need to grieve who our parents aren't so we can accept who they are. Cutting off is not going to bring about the change we long for. It's only going to perpetuate the hurt and the pain for future generations as well. But to say, okay, why do I need to grieve? My parents will never be this or that so that I can then start accepting and living with what is and making those small steps and changes. And for parents that have been cut off, you know, don't go the oh, what did I do? Innocent road. Say and realize something has happened to cause your child to have this rupture that they feel the only healthy thing to do is to cut off. Rather take the humble route of let me self reflect, let me take a look. What can I do to start making things safe again? And don't say things like, I don't know what I've done. You know, you're the problem. Oh, yeah, I know I've done. I must have done something. Can I look at that?
Dr. Tim Clinton
Sharon, sometimes it's difficult to the point where we can't seemingly get through the barriers. That's where reaching out for help becomes really important. Whether it's a marriage, where it's a parent, child relationship, whatever it is, when the conflict is so great or the distance is so vast between us. And God, I think extends his love toward us. And he often uses people, trained people in those ways. Sharon, you've spent a lot of time helping people. You bring a lot of light into the darkness and people are probably listening and saying, hey, how do I find out more about Sharon? Dr. Sharon May. Sharon, if you wouldn't mind, just share a little bit more about your thoughts. On getting help and then maybe how they could contact you and learn more about you and your ministry.
Dr. Sharon May
Yes. Thank you, Tim. Yes. You know, it's the heart of God for us to love well in marriage and in family. And he wants to see that reconciliation happen where we can be a safe haven for each other. It might not be perfect and idealic, but it is just enough and good enough that it can be a safe haven. And sometimes we do need to jumpstart that journey with a third person. And here at Safe Haven Relationship center, couples and families will come for an intensive where we can understand what went sideways and to bring some healing and new connection. And we have different offerings. You can come for a three, four day intensive. We have virtual retreats and conferences and podcasts and other ways that couples and families can begin to learn how do we heal these most important relationships in our lives? And they can reach out to safe havenrelationshipcenter.com Dr. Sharon May, always great to see you.

Hey, in closing, I know these are unprecedented times. They're difficult times. But I believe God's in control and that he's at work. And I hope you're blessing close to his heart. Know that God loves you and that he wants to be in your life. I believe that our hope, our strength comes from the Lord. Here again is an encouraging verse from the Bible to hold on to this week. Write it down. Second Thessalonians, chapter 2, verses 16 and 17. The Bible says, may the Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope. May he encourage our hearts, your heart, and strengthen you in every good deed and word. I hope you know that you can look to God for wisdom and direction in your everyday life. Let me also say I've learned as a professional counselor that's normal to have concern, maybe some fear, even worry, especially when life is not the way it's supposed to be. I also have learned that if you're not careful, it can begin to consume you, control you. It's easy to lose perspective. Some often feel like they've lost hope. It can get so dark for some, they would feel like life would be better off without them. Say this every week. You don't have to live like that. Simply taking a step, reaching out for help. It's often the gateway to a new day or a new you. And if you or someone you love is struggling, do that. Reach out for help. There are wonderful counselors and pastors who care who can help you find the hope, the answers that you're looking for. There are also a lot of wonderful resources. Love to connect you with some of those. You can find out more at our website@aacc.net that's aacc.net if you'd like to find a Christian mental health counsel leader in your area, go up on our new website. It's called Christian Christian CareConnect.com if you don't have a relationship with God in Christ, you know what? You can. You can have one right now by asking him to come in your life. Simply praying a prayer from your heart to God's heart. Something like this. You can pray it after me, Lord Jesus, I need you. I know I'm a sinner and I believe that God, you died for my sins. I want to turn from them and I want to invite you to come into my heart and my life. I want to trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you for loving me, for giving your life for me. Thank you for the gift of grace, forgiveness, the gift of eternal life. I pray all this in Jesus name. Amen. I believe if you prayed that prayer again from your heart to God's heart, you know what the Bible says. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him would not perish but have everlasting Life in Romans 10:9 and the Bible says this if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, the Bible says you will be saved. I believe you've prayed that prayer that you're saved, that you're born again. Best thing you can do now is go and commit to serving Him God for the rest of your life. He'll give you the strength to do it. For more information, you can email me at Tim Clinton Tim clintonacc.net hey, if you're struggling with hopelessness, say it's too dark.
