On this date in 1776, the Continental Congress ordered the Declaration of Independence engrossed on parchment, the formal step that turned a resolution in into the document that 56 men would risk their lives to sign. It wasn't the battle, the speech or the parade. It was the quiet, deliberate work of putting conviction into writing, knowing exactly what it would cost. Liberty was never self advancing or self sustaining. It was purchased by courageous men willing to put their lives on the line by signing that document. Always remember that and never forget it. Our scripture reading today comes from Galatians, chapter 5, verse 1. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by the yoke of slavery. Absolutely. Well, I, first of all, I'm very appreciative of you coming on. And people are gathered for worship. It's Sunday morning. One of the things that I cannot

but be reminded of is, you know, as we celebrate this, this great nation that we've had, we've had for these past 250 years. That celebration wasn't just on July 4th. I mean, we've been doing it all year long. Many have. It's a miracle that America has lasted this long. The average constitution living constitutions are roughly 17 to 20 years old. Ours is 250 years old. That is remarkable. But there are many today, even Christians, evangelicals, people in our churches who would say or suggest that, yes, there were a lot of Christians in America at the time of its founding, but America is not really a Christian nation. What's your response to that as a pastor in the local church?

It's one of those questions that Ryan actually comes up from time to time. Is America a Christian nation? And I always say, you know, sometimes people talk past one another without defining words. What do you mean by Christian? Even, you know, what do you mean by nation, those you have to have a common understanding before you can have a good conversation. But without getting into all the weeds of that, I think most people know what most people mean when they say, is America a Christian nation? And they also know what we're not trying to say. We're not trying to say, for instance, if you say that, that America has always done exactly the right thing, that there are no problems in America, that every person in America is a Christian, that America is somehow equivalent to the people of God, the covenant people of God, in a way other nations are not. You know, none of those things are what the vast majority of people say when they talk about America as a Christian nation. What they're talking about is usually are two big things. Number one, our founding, the fact that our nation came out of not a vacuum, it came out of something. It came out of a worldview. And that worldview was a distinctly Christian worldview. It's almost inarguable when you study the founding of America. It didn't come from Islamic worldview. It didn't come from a Hindu worldview. It didn't even come from a secularist worldview. In fact, it actually came even more narrowly than that. It came from a Protestant worldview, what we would call today evangelical. People who churches that took the Bible seriously. That idea, that philosophy, that ideology was the water in which we swam, it was the air that we breathed, it was the reality out of which America sprang. And then the second thing usually is they're talking about what is the majoritarian religious viewpoint. And of course, there are many secularists in America. We would be concerned today about many things in America. As we've said, there are many ways that America has fallen short. But over American history, the dominant religious viewpoint has been that of Christianity. And even today, while many people are not Christians, and you and I would be concerned about the rise of secularism and all the people who check none on the box about religion, that's all a thing. But if you were still asking what is the dominant religious influence in American life, it is inarguably Christianity. So when you look at those two things, of course it is a logical thing to talk about America as a Christian nation.

So when you go back to the Founders, many of them, whether it be George Washington, one of his favorite doctrines was the doctrine of divine providence. Now you look at John Adams. Our Constitution was written for a moral and religious people wholly inadequate to the governance of any other. Even Thomas Jefferson famously is referred to often as a deist. And had the Jefferson Bible. All of them saw that morality, religion, and then civic duty and responsibility, they all were mutually tied together. And one of the requirements in early education in America, of course, there was the New England primer, but there was also the Bible. So the Bible is big. It's instrumental. There was a study by a man, his name is Dr. Donald Lutz, University of Houston. He did a survey, took him about 20 years, went through all. It was a painstaking process. He was looking at all the documents in America's early founding, from around 1760s all the way up to 1800. And overwhelmingly, over 36% of those documents do had direct quotations from Scripture. The majority of those is Deuteronomy. The Bible is America's book in many ways, not because it originated here, but because it's the book that built America. As a pastor, you are instructing people in biblical worldview. Obviously, you stand on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. How important is the Bible not only for the church, but also the public square?

It's foundational for the church. I mean, it's foundational. Every now and then you'll have a preacher try some kind of rhetorical kind of trick where he will talk about, hey, we believe in Jesus. Our foundation is on Jesus and the resurrection of Jesus and not on the Bible. And it's always a head scratcher. Because the way we know about Jesus and the resurrection of Jesus is because of the witness of the early apostles who wrote down what they knew and believed. And guess what that is? It's the Bible. So it's kind of like circular reasoning, but in reverse. And no movement that ever started out denigrating the authority and importance of the Bible ever ended up ultimately exalting Jesus. We all know where that road leads. So when you talk about the importance for Christian faith and healthy churches and vibrant Christianity, God's word is absolutely essential. That we believe God did speak, that God did reveal truth, and we read it, we study it, is central in our worship as we read from it, as we preach from it. And it's the foundation. You know, it's the foundation laid by the prophets and the apostles in the public square. It's still very important, right? Because first of all, I don't know how you could be an educated person or claim to be an educated person, but not be thoroughly familiar with the Bible. Even if you did not, as I do believe it is the word of God, you would still respect and understand the importance and the influence of the Bible. But even beyond that, again, where do we get our ideas about morality where do we get our ideas, for instance? Right. It's one of these things when people talk about, oh, America's not a Christian nation because of this, because of slavery or how Native Americans were treated, or today you and I would say abortion or many other things. Well, where do you get the idea that those things are wrong? Where does that come from? It comes because you have a Christian worldview. So even the ideas about where we have fallen short, and we certainly have come only because of the truth of the Bible and the Christian worldview. If I see sin in my life, why do I know it is sin? Because I'm reading the Bible, I'm studying the Bible, I have a Christian worldview. The same thing is true about our nation.

You know, that's so well said. You know, a lot of people make the argument about laws of nature and nature's God, natural rights, they're not so quite natural, quite so natural in say the Islamic world as you had referred to earlier, or in the Hindu world where there is a clearly a caste system, they're not quite so natural when the streams you're swimming in are not Christian streams. Just finally, there's been a lot of studies about the Gen Z generation and I wanted to give you just a moment to comment on that and if you got anything else to share too, but just how important the Bible will be for this, this generation. It's the timeless truth from God written directly to us clearly. But there's all kinds of statistics and data, empirical points of information that is highlighting the Bible is making a comeback and it is making a transformational change in this next generation.

You know, I think this generation is longing for depth and substance. They've seen a lot of fluff and sadly, maybe even in the church growth age, there was a lot of fluff, you know, a lot of show, a lot of trying to attract people with flashing lights and entertaining talks. And I think there's a hunger to really get back to the source. And I think maybe that is the hunger fueling the Bible, wanting to know what it says and fueling this desire for the Bible. So I hope so. I'm often asked, do you see a revival happening? You know, I don't know if you're in the middle of one, if you would see it, you kind of see it in the aftermath and look back. I hope so, I hope so. I see some encouraging signs. I know you work with young people a lot. You're involved with a great university and we have a high school. Our high school just is exploding and so we're around high school students. I'm around the people that work with high school students we're seeing in our student ministry. And what I can tell you just anecdotally, is that I see young people that are serious about their faith. They really want the truth. They don't want entertainment, they don't want fluff. They've had all that. They are looking for the truth. And so I think that's where this hunger for the Bible is coming from. I praise God for it. I pray that it continues. I pray that it's more than just a blip on the screen or a kind of fad. I pray it represents maybe, maybe even still the front end, maybe still the front end of what could be a real spiritual awakening. We should pray so. And I tell you what, if it comes, one of the ways you will recognize it will be a love for the body. It won't just be a love for Christian music, and I love Christian music. It won't just be a lot of, you know, young people raising their hands and singing worship songs. That's great. I love it. I love the emotion of it. I'm not denigrating that. But it's got to get beyond the emotion and it's got to get beyond, you know, that kind of crowd mass thing. And it will come. You will see it if it's real. They're going to be studying the Bible, they're going to read the Bible. They're going to be building their life on the truth of the Bible, the doctrine of the Bible. And they're going to become people, young people of the book. Of the book, people of the book. And if real revival happens, we're going to see that.

Well, I, there's a lot of things going on this week, and of course, this is Sunday morning. I do want to I just want to point out there was a congressional hearing earlier this week. Amy Coney Barrett delivered testimony that she and even I believe her children have to wear bulletproof vests. With all the threats that she's receiving from the radical left, she was petitioning Congress for more money to pay for security. And so I wanted to kind of get your your thoughts on that overall. Well, I'm withholding my own opinion on her performance as a justice thus far, fulfilling sort of her promise to be an originalist. She certainly was as a professor. But what are your thoughts about this development?

Rod Martin
I'm going to address the thing that you're not going to, which is Barrett's performance. She's been fantastic on most rulings, no question about it, including overturning Roe v. Wade. But, but she seems sometimes to be a textualist without being an originalist, which is disappointing if you're just looking at the text unmoored from the original intent of those who crafted it. It's no different from the standpoint epistemology and hermeneutics that we're seeing in trending liberal parts of the church. It just, it's ultimately deconstructionism and that's certainly not who or what she is. But it is a problem. As far as the security problem, we've been having this now for years. The left has decided to weaponize protest even up to and on the lawns of Supreme Court justices that is just trying to intimidate judges. All those people should be in prison for the rest of their lives. And the fact that Congress hasn't ponied up for adequate security for nine people. We're just talking about nine people. Is absolutely ludicrous. So I do hope Congress acts on her request.

I 100% agree with that. There is something I want to refer our listeners and viewers to rodmartin.org, you had an article that came out and I thought it was rather intriguing and fascinating. We've heard for such a long time, you know, whether it be candidates running for president on the left who are advocating for universal basic income, or even this whole thing about transhumanism that others have promoted this idea that artificial intelligence, intelligence is going to be bring about the end of jobs as we know it. No one will be doing jobs. Robots will be cutting grass and computers will be doing all the thinking for people. You have a fascinating article. The apocalypse, when it comes to AI has not. least not yet. It's not availed itself. In fact, there's empirical data to show that it's created more jobs, not less. Can you explain that?

Rod Martin
Absolutely. Look, I'm a tech guy. I was one of the early guys at PayPal. Martin Capital invests in cutting edge technology. That's what we do. And I can tell you this is all hooey. This is a scare story largely by the big AI companies for the purpose of making them look cool. But we have 300 years of evidence to the contrary, starting with the elimination of all sharecropping jobs in favor of tractors. There's no difference. What happens is you stop doing grunt work. That was bogging you down. You know, if I'm, if I'm doing my laundry and cooking my meals and you know, all the different things that people have to do, that's time I'm not spending on productive work. If I have a maid or a wife who likes to be a homemaker or whatever I may have, that actually makes me a lot more productive and I can be better for my family. The same thing is true here. If workers are enabled through these tools to be more productive and better at the things they're better at, they become more valuable. They're worth more money to an employer. And what happens, it's called the Jevons Paradox, by the way. Way this is well trod ground. What happens is what you saw happen with bank tellers from about 1970 to the present. Everybody said that ATMs were going to wipe bank tellers out. And on a certain level, they did, because bank branches reduced the number of tellers in the short term. But the reduction in cost meant that banks could have many, many more branches. The number of tellers doubled, doubled. But they also do higher value work than they did in 1970. So no AI is going to unleash a productivity boom. We're all going to be doing cooler stuff with more of our time and less of the grunt work that just makes work a grind.

I want to turn attention, finally, just briefly, for the next couple of minutes, to just continual developments in the Middle east, the Strait of Hormuz, Iran. And clearly the dilemma right now is, and I think we all knew this, anybody who's honest, we know that these talks are going to be very difficult because you're trying to, in many ways negotiate with a terrorist regime. And they are a terrorist regime in Iran. And the ceasefire was only going to last as long as they were willing to honor it. But they're trying to run the table with the Trump administration. They understand our election cycles. The whole world does. When it comes to midterms, what do you see potentially? I know none of us truly know, none of us have a crystal ball, but what do you think potentially could develop over the next few weeks with would there be a negotiated agreement or would it be more of a protracted, you know, military operations conducted, et cetera, et cetera, etc?

Look, the talks were always a ruse. Donald Trump isn't a fool. He's been doing multibillion dollar real estate development deals all his life. Is there any possible way to do deals that involve people who lie more than doing real estate development deals? He has seen everything. There's nothing the mullahs can do that surprises him. So, so what was the deal? Well, the Iranians were doing what they always do. They're just playing for time. And they thought that Trump cared more about the midterms than I think he does because Trump knows that redistricting went heavily our way, that lots of things are going well, including oil prices, which just have hardly budged since the resumption of hostilities. They got enough supply online, they shifted enough people to other supply, mostly Americans supply, and also Chinese demand has dropped significantly because of their own internal problems. So that takes pressure off prices. Meanwhile, The Middle Eastern countries other than Iran are building pipeline capacity to just completely bypass the Straits of Hormuz. And that will actually be online? It's already online in part, but it will be fully online in 2027. I mean, it's coming really fast, so you aren't even gonna need the straight of hormones that takes away the only lever Iran has. So Trump bought time, and my guess is he also bought time for the arming and training of key people in Iran. Reza Pahlavi is always talking about the immortal guards. Yeah, that means something. That's not just him bloviating on X. So we have been doing things behind the scenes to bring about the toppling of this regime. If there's a negotiated settlement, my guess is it will be a surrender and an exit to these mullahs, new Dhakas on the Crimean coast. It will not be anything that looks like what they've been demanding. And honestly, their nonsense looks just like Baghdad, Bob. I mean, there's. There's no truth in what they're doing. We're moving a ton of tankers through the strait. Even under these circumstances, the blockade is ridiculously effective. One last thing on that, we're hitting a different target package than we were in March. And that's important to understand. We are doing things calculated to bring about the impossibility of the regime being able to defend itself, potentially even from a ground invasion, which I don't think is on the menu, but they don't know if it's on the menu. They've assumed that it was. So if you take away their ability to defend against that, which is what we're doing now, these are very different targets, and we're going after the Artesh for the first time, which is a new thing. That's the Iranian national army separate from the irgc. When you start doing those things, it looks really different. I think there is some kind of ground operation in view. Probably not U.S. forces, possibly regional, Arab forces, possibly even Pakistani.

So just a little bit of things going on. It looks like inflation is cooling. At least that's the report this week that's going around. Washington examiner has an article on this. But we do have a new chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank. Kevin Wash was sworn in back in May. Warren Buffett actually says this is a good choice, but it could be that he's raising interest rates, or at least that seems to be the case. If you're doing macroeconomic theory, that would make sense. Give us your comments on this and explain it in layman's terms. Keep it simple. Stupid for guys like me.

All right. Well, first off, Jerome Powell, who was the outgoing chairman, really blew it on inflation. He said, oh, you know, it's just temporary. We'll just see it disappear. And it didn't disappear. He was ignoring basic economic facts. When you print that much money and you tell everybody to stay in their home and they can't produce anything, you got too much money chasing too few goods and you have inflation. Wash is President Trump's pick, is a great pick. I agree with Warren Buffett on this. In fact, he was one who a decade earlier had stood up against quantitative easing and even lost his job over it, had to resign from the Fed over because he believes in stable, sound money money. So I think he's a good pick. I'm hopeful that he will do the right thing for the economy and not expand the money supply. The real problem we have is Congress. They spend too much money and the Fed is asked to pay the bill. And how they pay the bill as they create new money, hopefully we can end that disaster cycle that we've been on. And I think Wash is a great pick for that.

So one of the things that the president campaigned on back in 2024, of course, is affordability. One of the things that Gen Z is concerned about is afford. Average age of a new home buyer right now in America is around 41 years old. That's, that's my age essentially. And Kevin, I bought a home more than 15 years ago. So it is a struggle for young people to afford things and it's driving this idea of grievance. I think one of the things that we're concerned about is the rising state of dissatisfaction. You can, you can look at it a number of ways. One of it is, especially on the left, there's not a lot of patriotic sentiment. It's really at an all time low. But then there's also other things that are driving people to be upset. The purpose in all of this is that of course there is a small faction in the Democratic Party, the Democratic Socialists of America, the dsa. And they, they were running elections just recently in the New York City primaries and won several seats. Mamdani, of course, is one of their lead spokesperson for the DSA because he's the mayor of New York. Where do you see this thing going? Do you think that the DSA is going to have greater influence, greater poll within the Democratic Party, or do you think that this is going to eventually dissolve itself?

Well, unfortunately, the DSA has got their tentacles in deep into the Democratic Party. It's not your grandfather's Democratic Party or your father's. It's not even last year's Democratic Party. It is really gotten preposterously evil and they're playing on grievances. And I want to say a couple of things to Mamdani. Number one, you're living better than just about anybody in the history of the world. Not just because you're a mayor, but anybody living in America is living better than just about anywhere else in the world or any time in the world. America has really created opportunity. Now we have grievances and I understand it. The affordability crisis is real. It's being felt by young people. I get that and I'm not going to dismiss that because that is a real problem. But the solution to the problem is not what you're being fed. The solution of, well, we should go to communism, socialism, you know, share and share, like tax billionaires and all of that. That leads to disaster. The solution is to get honest money. I wrote a whole book on it. It's called Pirate Money. It explains how when you have the money supply out of control and not based on anything, that you're going to have these Massive inflation. You're going to have lower standards of living than you should. People are upset because their expectations are not being met. They're still living better than most people and anywhere in the world, most people at any point in history. I mean, John D. Rockefeller, as the richest man in the world 100 years ago, didn't live as well as the average person does today. And you know who saw that? The Europeans, when they came here for the World cup and they said, wow, we have air conditioning, we go to the grocery store. Look at all these choices we have. We have plentiful food, we get free refills, we have rage dressing. I mean, they saw how good we have it in America and they're wondering, why are you guys having grievances here? Number one, that's the thing. But number two, we can do better. And the way to do better is honest money. Get the government under control. Go back to the Constitution, follow biblical principles. So honest money based on gold and silver as an option, and pirate money, that will fix the grievances and let us have another 250 years of greatness in the United States of America. So enjoy what you've got. It's better than of them all, almost anyone else. And stop being so jealous and petty about it, Mamdani. And number two, let's do better. Let's all work together and do better.

Finally, I just want to talk about your forthcoming book. A lot of people are discouraged, I think in the times that we're living in. Certainly the term for folks in the church, eschatology is a word that's often used, but I'll just shorten it. The Apostle John called it the last times, the end days. You write a book on the American apocalypse in terms of the financial apocalypse, give us just a breakdown. First of all, yes, it's scary when we talk about this, but I really do want to point to an angle of hope because I think that's so important that we don't be doomer and gloomer.

Yeah, no, absolutely. Ben Franklin was asked, what kind of government did you give us? He said, a republic, if you. If we can keep it. And that's what we're facing. We were given the best form of government. We were given the most successful nation in the history of the world. And it's a question, are we going to keep it? There are four horsemen, red, green, blue and yellow. That's communism, Islamism, globalism and cowardism that are attacking what we've got. And people are fall for it. And so I wrote the book to tell people, look, here's what will happen if we go down the wrong road. It will be the end of America as we know. It doesn't mean the end of society. It doesn't mean the end of humanity. I mean, American nations rise and fall at God's whim, but we can keep this and have great prosperity, share the gospel and spread the good news around the world for the next 250 years if we wake up and realize, realize we've got something precious, let's hold on to it. And then here are the steps to take to make a better world and improve humanity. So 250 years that look back and say, gosh, do you realize how poor those people were in 2026 and how terrible life was compared to how great it is today? I mean, if Jesus tarries, that's what we can look forward to. If we don't do the right things, it won't be America leading the world. Let it be somebody else else. God's got a plan for this earth, and I don't know what that plan is, but I want America to be part of it and my children and children's children and children's children's children to be part of it going forward.

Amen. I, I, I think we all bear a responsibility in that and, and certainly in these times, we bear a responsibility to pass not only our faith, but also our country to the next generation. Yeah, I'm honored to be doing this. And of course, for Dr. Tim Clinton, who normally would be be hosting his own show, the Sunday the Road Forward. We really appreciate when there are companies out there that are promoting patriotism, American values, people of faith, championing the very things that we believe in. We feel better about giving our dollar to something that, yeah, it's a great product and it's a great service, but what else are you doing with that dollar?

Yeah, I think that's so important. You know, you mentioned we're America's only Christian conservative wireless provider. That's Patriot Mobile. People say, well, what do you mean by saying you're a Christian cell phone company? I mean, what is that? And what it means is, of course we honor our creator and we honor our savior and Lord Jesus Christ and the Christian gospel. That Christ died for our sins and rose again. You'll hear prayer here, Bible studies happening here week, but what we're doing with this money is we're taking some of every bill every month and giving it to conservative and Christian causes. So we're supporting first amendment, second amendment. We're supporting at all times, 6, 7, 8 pro life groups from those who are just messaging pro life to those who are actually engaging with the women who are expecting and helping them care for the, for the new child. And that's a beautiful ministry that we have and support. And then of groups like Folds of Honor, that's, you know, honor military and first responder heroes. So every month when you're on Patriot Mobile, part of your bill, you with these other companies, they're not doing stuff for those causes. They may be helping the dark side. But you know, the big question people have is, is the service good? That's really what I care about.

So you mentioned cause is huge. And actually, you know, that is the number one issue in America still today. As long as unborn children are at risk, that's the number one priority. You know, here in Texas we've engaged this year on what is really being called Islamification. We have got Sharia law, Sharia divorces, halal agenda, Sharia financing. And it's just like the boiling frog right in the kettle.

And actually you can look, I've spent a year of my life in the UK over a 20 year period and it has pushed down freedom of speech, pushed down freedom of religion, pushed down freedom of the press. And you've got that in France and you've got it all over Western Europe. So we don't need to wonder what this will look like. We already know what it looks like. And you have independent Sharia courts in the UK and you, you've got stirrings of that right now in the United States and you've got no go zones in places like Minnesota and other place, they're de facto no go zones. Right.

Primary school children, grade school children, and Patriot Mobile engaged. And actually we saw two, three school boards, turnover and a mayor. You know, we had success just mobilizing and networking with the community. So I think Patriot Mobile is a great model for red businesses, conservative businesses, Christian businesses, to be salt and light. That's what Jesus said. This world, there's some darkness, we are the light, there's some decay, we are the salt. We will preserve the good and also add a little flavor. It's a lot of fun to work here at Patriot.
