John Solomon
Good evening, America. Happy Friday. Welcome to the latest edition of JUST THE news. No noise. I'm your host John Solomon reporting to you as always from the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. where the smoke has now settled from the Beijing summit. It was a historic summit. The over under with most people is that President Trump came out the winner over President Xi. President Xi had a couple of untoward moments. President Trump seemed to be calm and delivered some America first victories back at home while also being cognizant that China is going to have to be somebody we're going to keep a close eye on. No matter what they say. Most folks assess it that way. We're going to tackle that throughout the show today, particularly in the middle block of the show when we bring in a couple of our great national security experts. But first, I want to turn to my amazing co host, Amanda Head, who's been watching breaking headlines all day. Amanda, what's going on in the world?
Amanda Head
Well, just one state over from us, in the state of Virginia, Democrat Governor Abigail Spanberger signed a ban, a law banning assault weapons. And the NRA immediately filed. We've got that up over on justthenews.com so, John, this could possibly mimic what we are talking about, what we talked about a few weeks ago on the show with Harmeet Dillon out of Denver. So a lot of these lawsuits popping up over the country that of course, can open up civil litigation for citizens of those municipalities to sue their own government. Another story, John, that caught my eye, Tennessee's Representative Steve Cohen. So for those of you who have been paying attention to this redistricting battle, the his area of Memphis was redistricted. And so there are a lot of Democrats out there who are saying, oh, they're just trying to edge out any black, you know, any black representatives. Well, it's funny because Steve Cohen is a white man, he's Jewish, but he's, he's a white man. And the citizens of that district voted for him over a black woman who was a Republican. So, you know, the arguments don't necessarily line up. But I'm with you on the, the president's delegation and his trip to Beijing. I think that there, you know, it's always such a nuanced relationship in these conversations. And the president, you know, he manages them pretty masterfully because he is the dealmaker in chief.
John Solomon
He didn't let China get under his skin, he just played it simple and cool. And I think it might have frustrated XI that he couldn't rattle the president one day. By the way, the gallantry was pretty awesome. Otherwise, it was a pretty, it was very ornate. It was a good trip. The world got to see two superpowers acting normal. So it was good. All right. We talked about redistricting. Well, one of the places where it could be challenged soon, California. We had a chance to join one of its great representatives, Congressman Tom McClintock. Have a watch what we talked about. All right, folks. Joining us now to break down all the breaking news around Washington and in this great country, California Congressman Tom McClintock. Sir, good to have you on the show.
Congressman Tom McClintock
Good to be back, John. Thanks for having me.
John Solomon
It is a great honor to have you on. I want to ask a question that's been on my mind. I've been looking at Prop 50 and it is clear that the election that led to the redistricting in California mentioned race and ethnicity as one of the driving points for why they redistricted. Given that Louisiana says you can't use race anymore, that Louisiana Supreme Court ruling, is there a possibility of a challenge to Prop 50 under the new Supreme Court precedent?
Congressman Tom McClintock
Oh, yes, I think there's a probability of that. That challenge is still alive. Was kicked back to the lower courts with the federal component now in place that finally ends racial gerrymandering in this country. Well, authors of Prop 50 bragged that they were using racism in order to cut districts. That's got to go back to the federal courts. Now, I believe that it'll be struck down. The question is how will the Democrats respond to that? Will they go back to a bipartisan commission that people voted for? I doubt it. I think they'll try another state of the art gerrymander to take care of any remaining districts that they weren't able to take in the 2026. The fact of the matter is California Republicans get about 40% of the vote statewide for Congress under the Gavin mander will get 8% of the seats. And my guess is we'll see them try to reduce that number even further if they're required to reapportion again.
John Solomon
Yeah, well.
Amanda Head
And sir, they've been trying these tactics for a long time. Sacramento Democrats love to tout the fact that they were one of the first states to pioneer the jungle primary system and it typically benefits Democrats in California. Could this be the year though? Because I'm looking at polling and Republicans surging in, you know, the gubernatorial poll. Could this be the year that the jungle primary comes back to bite them in the backside.
Congressman Tom McClintock
Well, I mean, it's possible. You've got two Republican candidates who could conceivably take the first two slots simply because there are so many Democratic candidates splitting up the remaining vote. I don't think that's likely, however. But I do think it's likely that Steve Hilton will make it into the runoff against a Democrat if he does that. Look what's going on in Los Angeles right now. I mean, Spencer Pratt is setting the political world on fire down there, no pun intended, in reaction to the Democrats handling the Pacific Palisades fires. I think that there's a possibility. And LA is 40% of the California vote. So what's going on down there may have profound implications for the statewide vote in June and November. And if that's the case, well, who knows? People are getting awfully fed up with the conditions in California, and people are starting to connect the dots between the votes they've been casting, the politicians they've been electing, the policies those politicians have imposed, and the quality, declining quality of life that people are now suffering as a result of those policies.
Amanda Head
Congressman, you mentioned the LA mayoral race. And mayoral races are supposed to be nonpartisan, but we all know where Karen Bass and Nithya Raman stand. Spencer Pratt has deliberately tried to stay away from any type of Republican or Democrat qualifier to his campaign. Do you anticipate that President Trump? Because I know he might be tempted to weigh in. I don't think he will, though.
Congresswoman Beth Van Dyne
Should he?
Congressman Tom McClintock
Good question. I don't know. I think that people are so fed up with conditions down in Los Angeles. I mean, the left has completely destroyed that city and everybody down there knows it. So I really don't think it matters whether Pratt identifies as an independent, a Republican, a former Republican. And I don't think it's really going to matter to people who's endorsing him and who's not. I think what's going to matter to people are the conditions they're now living under in Los Angeles as a result of these socialist policies that have destroyed every city where they've been imposed.
John Solomon
Yeah, it's just an amazing thing to watch a beautiful city crumbling under the weight of its own insanity. I want to turn to something we broke here in the last 24 hours, the new document showing that when the FBI shut down the Arctic Frost investigation just before President Trump returned to office in January 2025, they did it in an abnormal way. They didn't give the evidence back like they normally do. In fact, they kept the evidence open until 2030, wrote a memo saying they still thought the president committed crimes and left open a very easy route for a future Democrat president to come back and re indict President Trump. It violates every standards that the FBI normal follows when a case is shut down. Cash Patel said yes, he's deeply disturbed by what he found here and he's not going to let it happen. It seems to me the Justice Department could go to the court today and say, make sure this doesn't happen. Let's dismiss any idea of President Trump being charged with prejudice. Is that something that should happen here?
Congressman Tom McClintock
Oh, absolutely it should. There's no question that's the Democrat agenda from day one. If they're ever able to take back power in the Congress, we'll have nonstop impeachment proceedings that will paralyze the rest of the government. But what they're really looking for is to try to seize the House, the Senate and the presidency before the 2030 census. They fall off a cliff. After the 2030 census. The number of people fleeing Democratic states for Republican states means a 15 to 20 seat shift in the electoral vote and in the congressional delegations of the end of racial gerrymandering, another 20 to 40 seats of the deportation of illegals. They won't be here to be counted in the next census. So that is additional seats the Democrats were counting on. They're looking at probably a 50 seat permanent shift from a Democrat to Republican after the 2030 census. So they desperately have to try to get back the levers of power before then so that they can pack the Supreme Court with new seats, pack the Senate with new states, bypass the Electoral College with this compact of the states, which would disenfranchise rural America from presidential elections. They'll rig the election laws the way they have in California and reopen the borders. That's their plan. And they have to accomplish that before 2030.
Amanda Head
Sarah, before we let you go, we'll end a little bit close to where we began with redistricting. I know that that certainly helps the issue because we've spoken to a number of Republicans, especially in the House, who were concerned about keeping that majority. The redistricting thing helps, but what else can Republicans do leading into November to convince voters that Republicans need to stay in charge in the House?
Congressman Tom McClintock
Well, two things. First, we passed the big beautiful bill last year. That's Reaganomics on steroids. I remember the Reagan recover. It took about a year to work through the economy. When it did, people felt a palpable sense of relief. We've already passed that bill. Once we're past Iran, I think people are going to be feeling that in their lives very vigorously. And I think we're going to have another morning in America that produced the Republican landslide in 1984. The other question is, do you really want to let the Democrats reopen our borders? I think that that answer should be self evident for most people.
John Solomon
Yeah, absolutely. Congressman, as always, we enjoy every time you come on, we learn so much from you. Thanks for joining us tonight.
Congressman Tom McClintock
My pleasure. Thanks for having me.
John Solomon
Yeah, we always have a great conversation every time you come on. All right, folks, a lot more around the corner. First though, a quick commercial break. Hey, folks, the FBI just released the 2025 crime data and 85% of the the $20 billion in cybercrime losses were due to fraud. That surprised you? Not at all. Real estate fraud is a growing part of that. In 2025 alone, more than 12,000 real estate fraud cases were documented and only a fraction are ever reported, costing victims well over $275 million. Complaints up 32% this year. Year over year losses rose even faster, up 58%. What makes this worse, there is no government cybersecurity protection bill for homeowners against these threats. Their own reporting documents how cybercriminals use AI to generate forged deeds, convincing fake signatures counterfeit notary seals and file them digitally through county recorder portals that process the documents without verifying anything. So what can you do to protect yourself? Well, you do what I do. Protect your equity from fraud with Home Title Lock. Their million dollar triple lock protection monitors your title 24, 7, alerts you to any changes in the public record. And if you're a victim, God forbid, they'll spend up to a million bucks to fix the fraud and restore your title. So go to hometitlelock.com and use that promo code jtn for a free trial and a free title history report so you can find out today if you're already a victim. That's hometitlelock.com promo code jtn.

Welcome back, everybody. As we have unfortunately learned over the past year, fraud and scams have taken on many forms, hurting the American taxpayer in many ways that we haven't really ever even dreamed about. And the Trump administration has had absolutely enough. Congressional Republicans definitely have too. So joining us now to talk about this, Texas Congresswoman Beth Van Dyne. Congresswoman, thanks so much for being here.
Congresswoman Beth Van Dyne
Great to be here. Thank you.
Amanda Head
Absolutely. We are learning so much. It seems like practically everything that the government has touched or created there has been fraud, obviously. Vice President J.D. vance months the frauds are out there talking about this. Mehmet Oz, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It, it seems like it has infected practically everything.
Congresswoman Beth Van Dyne
Has would seem so. I mean, whether, you know, whether or not you're looking at hospice fraud in California, home health care fraud in Ohio, you know, looking at the children's food programs up in Minnesota, fraud is rampant. And you're seeing especially in blue states where governors and where their state bureaucrats have been hiding it. And now that the federal government is going in and they are uncovering the fraud, waste and abuse, you would expect that they would jump on this, that they would be upset to see that, especially in their state, that these dollars are being wasted, that these dollars are being stolen away from people who really need those resources. But instead they sit here and they basically are trying to defend the fraud, deny the fraud it going. And then you got to start asking yourself why? Is it because they've got friends who are owing these, these NGOs and who are doing it because these are somehow their base of voters. But you know, I would expect that every single American would be so frustrated that their, their dollars are going places that they're not. And for every single dollar that is, is wasted, it's stolen. Those are dollars that are not going to the people who need them in Medicare and Medicaid, in our SNAP benefits and in other entitlement programs. And we should all be frustrated with that.
John Solomon
You bring up a great point. It's double victimization the taxpayer and the people we were expecting to help with the money. I began talking to some of these welfare fraud and federal fraud investigators who are on the task force and they're saying, John, we don't think that this was a bug. We think it may have been a feature of the system. Is it possible that in some of these blue states they set the system up so it could be fleeced for whatever political reasons they had.
Congresswoman Beth Van Dyne
You know, I'm not going to say it's not possible. It seems to be so prevalent that there has to be something that's allowed it to continue. But I think this is the point of having, you know, like Vice President Vance, you know, basically unload, unleash on this fraud, this fraud program is to uncover the abuse. We should all want that, find out what has been beneath this. How have hundreds of millions, potentially tens of billions of dollars been wasted, been stolen in a government that is supposed to have accountability, is supposed to have oversight? How are the bureaucrats not been able to look at this program? And it seems like the Democrats answer is we just need to throw more money at the programs and not at the oversight and not at the uncovering fraud.
John Solomon
Good point.
Amanda Head
You know, this country is so benevolent. We offer so many different ways and opportunities for people to come here and find gainful employment. But when it comes to fraud and scams, that system has not escaped it. The H1B visa program. I know that you have been very vocal about this. Tell us about your work on it and what you want to see.
Congresswoman Beth Van Dyne
Look, you know, we have. There's a number of different programs that allow folks to come into our country to get jobs, to get people an education that they are supposed to be valuable to our American businesses. We want them to have the brightest of the brightest. We want them to be able to have these geniuses that are found in various areas of the world, different experiences. That is what the H1B visa program was created, was to bring those very few exceptions, those unique talents into our country. But what we have found is, again, every government program can be abused, has a loophole in it, and it is metastasized exercise now to such a degree that we are seeing American workers being displaced. We are seeing people brought over that don't even qualify for the jobs that they are, that they are filling. In most cases, in some cases that you're seeing being uncovered, they don't even have jobs. They're just basically the creation of a title and it is a scam. And so when I saw that North Texas, you know, had some of the largest numbers of HB1 visas, but they were not working. They were at locations that in some cases had hundreds of people, but not even, you know, a business that was located at that address. You have to start asking questions. What are we doing? How are we uncovering this? And I don't have the ability in my office to be able to investigate it. So what I did was I joined forces with Ronny Jackson, with Pat Fallon and with Brandon Gill, and we wrote a letter to the Trump administration asking Homeland Security and some of these other agencies to investigate. We need these agencies working together to enforce this law, to enforce what the program is supposed to be meant and not to have the abuses. We also want them sharing data with each other and to look at this program and figure out what are the loopholes and what is the legislative fix, because that's what we need to be able to provide to make sure that it does not continue.
John Solomon
Yeah. Ending the cycle is so important. I know you. You got a close eye on that. I look out now and we see in the immediate agenda here there's a significant growth in focus in the administration on citizenship fraud, that people who may have stole their citizenship through false pretenses are now real denaturalization is going on, I think 12 in the last week by the largest number we've seen in decades. How important is it that if the ultimate prize in America getting citizenship under false pride pretenses, if we start prosecuting that, do you think that's going to have a good deterrent effect on a system that seems to have a lot of issues right now?
Congresswoman Beth Van Dyne
I think, I think absolutely. I think if people know that there is a punishment for committing this kind of fraud, I think that that will act as a deterrent. We haven't been doing that, it seems, but I think, you know, the more that you uncover it and hold the businesses accountable and, you know, you shot, you start seeing some of these people, you know, face. Face jail time, I think you're going to see them, you know, really begin to. To decrease. And, you know, North Texas alone, as we've been cracking down on this, they have noticed a few areas that were heavy strife with H1B visa holders. Now, you know, homes are starting to come up on the market and you're seeing a decrease in housing costs. You know, now I don't know if that is a direct result of what we're doing in uncovering this fraud in this and this abuse of this program, but it would seem to be a possibility. But we have got to make sure that this program is either revamped or paused while we make sure that it's not continuing to be abused. It's not just a few, you know, dozen. We're talking thousands and thousands and thousands. And this is just one step. This is just the H1B visa program, but there's also the student visa group there's an L1 visa program, and they all seem to work in concert with one another. You get people over here on a student visa, then they move over to an NGO or they move over, you know, to a job that apparently American worker can't be placed in. And it just keeps continuing until they've been here for. For basically the rest of their life. This was never supposed to be that. This program was supposed to be a. A temporary ability to get very unique individuals here. And unfortunately, again, it's been abused. And we are covering as much as we can, and we need to start holding these people accountable.
Amanda Head
Kyrus, I want to ask you about Resolution 50 that was put forth by the Texas House GOP caucus. As I was reading some of the language in it, I actually thought back to our founding fathers because our founders wanted the federal government to have very, very limited responsibility and power. They wanted most of that power to. To lie with the states. And this Resolution 50 does a great job when it to comes comes to denying entry to foreigners. States like Texas having sovereignty over this. Tell us about it.
Congresswoman Beth Van Dyne
No, I think that's exactly right. We just had our Texas Caucus lunch today. Whenever we are in DC Once a week, we all try to get together, and we are very much wanting to make sure that Texas had to pull the brunt of the responsibility during the Biden administration to protect our country from all of those folks that were illegally coming into our country. And we got sued by the federal government because we were trying to protect not just the rest of the country, but our state. And we have the right to be able to protect our citizens. That is really our main function. And to have the federal government not only come in and sue us, but then physically remove the barriers that the state of Texas had put up to prevent this onslaught of illegal immigration coming into our state should be against the law. We have an ability to be able to protect our own state, and we want to make sure that that is very crystal clear to the federal government moving forward so we never have to face that again.
Amanda Head
Huge as we are less than two months away from our nation's 250th. I think our founders are looking at efforts like this, and they are smiling and appreciate the efforts of folks like you. Texas Congresswoman Beth Van Dyne, thank you so much for being with us tonight.
Congresswoman Beth Van Dyne
Thank you so much for having me.
Amanda Head
Absolutely. All right, everybody, we're going to take a very quick break, but we have much more for you coming up on the other side.
John Solomon

I Heart Radio. Welcome back America. This has been an extraordinary week for foreign policy, security policy, everything from the summit in Beijing to word that the Justice Department may soon indict the former Cuban leader Raul Castro, and a whole lot in between Iran, Europe, you name it, it's all going on. When you have that crazy week, it's time to bring in one of our best experts. And we have her. She is amazing. When it comes to national Security policy. She's the vice president, president of the Lexing Institute and one of the great national security analysts in this country. And she's also our good friend Rebecca Grant. Rebecca, welcome back to the show.
Rebecca Grant
Glad to talk with you.
John Solomon
All right, let's get your top line on how the Trump Xi Summit ultimately ended. Do we have winners, losers, or was it a draw?
Rebecca Grant
I'm going to give Trump the win all the way. He arrived with tech CEOs on a fantastic Boeing airplane, Air Force One, that, you know, for all China's technology, they can't make planes as well as Boeing does. That's why they're going to buy 200 more of them. And then I thought he was really good. I think he enjoyed himself. I think he spent a lot of one on one time with Xi sort of figuring out where that relationship stands. Trump has a clear plan for manned trade going forward. And I thought Trump really actually held firm on Taiwan. Sounded like Xi went on a rant in private as well as making some very unfriendly comments minutes before one of the official sessions. And Trump just said, whatever. I'm not going to tell you what I'm thinking. We've got good deterrence in the Pacific and Trump knows it.
John Solomon
Yeah, that's a good point, Rebecca.
Amanda Head
This was a high stakes meeting. It was also, I think for some it would be a high pressure meeting. President Trump seemed completely unfazed by that pressure. How do you think that played into Xi Jinping, his operation, what he was planning? It's obviously very different from any negotiations with the Biden administration.
Rebecca Grant
Oh, so different. Just to see the two of them walking around, strolling through the garden at the Communist Party headquarters. Who knew? But also, don't forget, this is the result of a year of preparation on the military front. From Midnight Hammer to Venezuela to Operation Epic Fury, their eyeballs were popping out in China's military, reminding what the US Military really is capable of. And there since the US Navy has dried the Strait of Hormuz. But on the economic side, from Secretary Bessant to Ambassador Greer and others, they are really preparing the way for a new era of managed trade and getting that trade deficit down while letting US Businesses do more business in China on non sensitive goods. And, you know, the deficit is still too big, but it is the lowest that it's been since about 2004. So things are going in the right direction thanks to Trump.
John Solomon
That's a really important fact. Hardly ever gets mentioned right now with all the other news going on. I wanted to talk a Little bit about that military might, because the flip side of the military might was it was the Chinese provided radar and defense systems that America just blew right through in Iran and its missiles, some of it with components from China that we blew through. Does China have to step back a little bit and realize that the very stuff it gave to Iran we had like no problem handling.
Rebecca Grant
Exactly. And done with with an elegance and a sophistication that really is quite new. So a lot of that thanks to the work of air power in the US Navy. But we also spent a lot of time blowing up anti ship cruise missiles in their underground bunkers, defeating all of that. And I think it tells you it's a signal to China that the US can operate aircraft carriers 247 very successfully and can really do that attack against an integrated air defense system. And then the precision, you know, it ranges from hits on Iran's industrial base, taking that down to the carrier based F18 pilot who disabled a tanker by using his gun on the rudder. So this is really a show of force for China, which fortunately has no recent military experience and we want to keep it that way. So for the Chinese to see the US military in action over even just the course of 2026 really has to make them think twice. And don't forget, Xi has purged several of China's top generals because I think they were trying to tell him the truth about China being not quite ready.
Amanda Head
Absolutely, Rebecca, even if there are hands being shaken, there is always something being done by the CCP behind our backs. So I think out of an abundance of caution, I saw in a poll report that everyone with the American delegation had to throw away everything that was given to them there in Beijing. This included delegation lapel pins, pads of paper, writing pens, credentials. Anything that was given to them by the Chinese had to be thrown away before they got on Air Force One. Is that overkill or good reason?
Rebecca Grant
Well, even the pens and the pads of paper, that is being really strict, but it's never overkill when it comes to the Chinese Communist Party. I mean obviously you don't want anything that could have electronics and software. And yet we have so much in this country that was made in China, from our cranes at our seaports to, you know, everything else. But it's really a sign that we have to be super, super careful. I think there's no question that she is really feeling some pressure. And of course he would stop at nothing to continue the penetration of US society.
John Solomon
Yeah, no doubt it's a long strategic game for them and Playing the game of penetration and intrusion. I want to turn to Iran because now that the president's back, it's clear that Iran isn't going to negotiate in any good faith. What are the President's options? Does he just hold put for a while and our standpoint for a while and let the economic embargo and the Strait of Hormuz just choke Iran out? Does he throw a few missiles around to remind him we're still in charge and maybe diminish more of its capabilities? What do you think is the next play for the administration?
Rebecca Grant
Well, either of those could work. He might stick with. He's going to keep the blockade on for sure.
John Solomon
Right.
Rebecca Grant
And the US Navy can continue to do that. You know, maybe the one positive, positive sign from China was when Xi said he didn't really want to see an Iranian toll booth down there in the Strait. But John, the key problem is figuring out what will assure the international Mariners. It's not like it's a tactical problem to go through the strait. Our destroyers have done it. But what does Lloyd's of London, what does msc, what do the big shippers want in order to put that back on their schedules? That's going to take time. And unless they are really assured that they can transit safely, there's going to continue to be a slowdown. We do see vessels going through, but again, not at the rate that we need. And I think the President really needs to get his team to concentrate on what assurances are going to be required back to Project Freedom, something with the Gulf allies. I think that is a problem. They're going to have to work whether they do additional strikes on Iran or not.
Amanda Head
Yeah. You mentioned Lloyd's of London, and I wanted to ask you about the insurance aspect of this. And it seems almost like a wag the dog scenario because obviously military might is what's front and center in this conflict. But what, what effect do insurance providers for these ships have to do with the conflict? And are they kind of wagging the dog?
Rebecca Grant
Oh, 100% because, you know, the U.S. navy really has control. There's very, very little that Iran can do in a tactical sense. But your insurance rate for your cargo in a quote unquote war zone, which now the Strait is, is like a 23 times premium. TRUMP has talked about using a chub, a US Firm to set up a reinsurance scheme. But the Mariners are incredibly traditional. Lloyd's has been in business since 1743. They want things the way they like it, the usual way, and their schedules are long planned out in advance. So even if they find the magic solution to getting commercial traffic moving tomorrow, it will take time to implement it. And right now it has become, it's gone from a business issue to actually really a kind of a little strategic problem in getting the strait open.
John Solomon
Yeah. One last thing I want to ask you about. It was kind of an afterthought by the president, but I think it could be something significant. He said he raised the issue of a new nuclear weapons treaty, maybe a trilateral one with Russia, China and the United States. And he got a positive response from Xi. That kind of signals to the world that we have a little bit of normalcy going on, even in this era of tension, that we could have a conversation like that. How important was that gesture, John?
Rebecca Grant
That is huge because China has basically said no, no, no to nuclear arms control. They've more than doubled their nuclear arsenal. They've got three plutonium plants running and are on the way to get to 1500 warheads. They've got about 600ish now. So we really are going to need a nuclear arms control regime with China. And they have not even been willing to talk about it. So if she said, yeah, maybe that is a huge breakthrough and something President Trump should get enormous historic credit for.
John Solomon
Yeah, it was an amazing trip. I think in the over under the world got to see stability. We got a few things out of it and we held our ground, which I think at the end of the day is going to serve all of us so well. Rebecca, it is always a great honor to have you on the show. We always walk away a lot smarter when you're on. Thanks so much for joining us.
Rebecca Grant
Thank you.
John Solomon
Yeah. Great conversation. All right, folks, quick commercial break ahead then. The Iran war is causing energy prices to move. But energy isn't the only thing getting more expensive. We'll tell you what that is and how it affects your life. Right right after this break. Hey, folks, for 50 years, every barrel of oil on earth was priced in US Dollars. That's what gave the dollar its strength. It's what allowed your retirement savings to hold their value all these decades. That system is ending. Right now. 40 countries are actively moving away from the dollar. Iran is selling oil in one. Saudi Arabia is accepting one. Central banks are dumping dollars and buying gold. Gold at the fastest pace in 60 years. For the first time in 30 years, they hold more gold than they hold US treasuries. The institutions that run the global financial system are telling you exactly where this is headed. Not with words, but with their actions. Meanwhile, gas went up from 298A gallon to over $4. Oil is up to 50% and your dollars buy less every single month. Not because you did something wrong. Because Washington spent this country into $39 trillion of debt and the rest of the world decided they've had enough of us. Welcome back, America. You all know I love gold, particularly in economically uncertain times. And we're in one of those right now, right? Oil prices have surged over 50% since the start of the Iran war. The Strait of Hormuz, which carries 20% of the world's oil supply, is effectively shut down by our blockade. Spirit Airlines went bankrupt, went out of business. 17,000 jobs lost. You go to the pump, you know what it's like to pay for 44 a gallon right now. It has an effect up and down the economy from retirements to your investment portfolios. Here to break down what this oil shock means for your retirement is my good friend Shannon Davis from one of our great partners, American Alternative Assets. Shannon, welcome back to the show.
Shannon Davis
Thanks for having me again, John. Always good to be with you.
John Solomon
We love the conversation. All right. I went to the pump with my big car this weekend. It was 100 bucks to fill up. It's been a long time since I hit $100 on the gas pump. People are feeling it. How much deeper does this go now? Because it isn't just what you pay at the pump. We're starting to see downstream effects in the economy.
Shannon Davis
Yeah, I mean, well, you nailed it. I mean, this is the average now. I mean, this isn't just California. Almost $4.50. And that's just the part you can see. That's up 40% from last year. But diesel is the one people should really be watching. Diesel hit $5 and almost 65 cents a gallon, up 59% in one year. That's approaching all Time records, and that's not a record that you want to hit. What, diesel. Why diesel matters? Because diesel moves the economy. If you really think about it. Trucks run on diesels, tractors run on diesel. Produce that gets shipped to every grocery store. It's got to get there on a diesel truck. Crops are being cropped by diesel equipment. So it really hits everybody. I mean, it's hitting, even fertilize products. Natural gas is where that comes into play. So, you know, you really, you really don't start to see this hit, this oil shock that will hit until about seven or eight months after it's over. And yep, you know, we shut them down, but we shut them down and things aren't moving. And cost that directly passes to the checkout lines. You know, this is, you know, what we're seeing at the gas pump right now, that's coming to your grocery store next, when you pay your bill, when you leave, it's coming to restaurants. You know, it's something that you really have to start paying attention to. You mentioned, you know, 17 jobs lost. I mean, that's because of diesel fuel for spare Spirit Airlines. I mean, that just killed 17,000 jobs months. So you're starting to see the effect of it right now, John. And I think that's what we need to start paying attention to. Outside of everything else going on.
Rebecca Grant
We.
John Solomon
When I was growing up covering energy, they used to say that diesel had three apps to it, freight, food, and fertilizer. And those are three big ones that make the economy roar. So we know that that is an engine we have to keep a close eye on. I want to talk a little bit about the delay, too, because the shock at the pump now, but you said something really profound. The downstream effect on inflation on other products sometimes might not reach until the summer and fall. And even if gas prices are falling, then we're going to get passed down the expenses that are being inherited. Now, what happens to the market, what happens to investments when there's a long tail to a sudden burst of inflation on gas?
Shannon Davis
Yeah, I agree. I mean, it's like a. It's like a freight line, like in the, in the ocean. You know, the big freight, it takes four miles for it to turn around. Like we've got a machine. Our economy is a massive machine. It takes a long time for you to feel that residual effect. You know, the Fed, they're trapped, and we don't use that word lightly. They can't cut rates because inflation is accelerating. Not by much, but it hasn't moved. We talked about it last time, it's sticky. You know, they pour, they're pouring gasoline right now on inflation right now because of the straight of her moods being closed. You can't raise the rates because the economy is already slowing. You know, we've got some good job markets. I think those will be corrected again downwards like they always are. So they can't raise the rates. That'll just push us into a recession. So that's what I mean by they're trapped and not using that word lightly. But you know, now that we've got pricing and the possibility of rate hikes in 2027, you know, you got to be concerned about that. Mortgage rates were falling towards 6% and this straight of heart moves and this whole thing going on has stopped that and it's back up again. And borrowing expenses are higher, mortgages are higher, auto loans are higher, credit cards are higher. It's just a disaster type of recipe. And Iran just shattered that petrodollar system. I know, that's why we're there. Me personally, it's your perspective, really. But 20 million barrels a day, we've got less than 4 million now. That's how much was pushing through. So we're going to see that at some point hit not only our economy, but it's going to hit your bank account, it's going to hit your retirement account. That is mainly in dollar bills. Dollar bills are changing. We'll talk about that here in a little bit. You had a great topic we'll cover. But you know, it's nasty everywhere we look. John, I think you just have to be smart on where you put some of your dollars outside of the traditional investments.
John Solomon
You have some great guides that we always put together. And you mentioned the dollar. We also got the central digital currency threat which is holding up a FISA reform in Congress because they want to get the privacy right on that. Tell us right now if you're worried about your 401k, your retirement, your personal investments, how do I gird for these next few months?
Shannon Davis
Yeah. So as we're talking about here, it's going to take. The oil shock is going to hit, you know, it's going to hit our dollar and then it's going to hit politically. And there's going to be some chaos. There always is and some narratives will change. But for us it's really, it's about being proactive and preparing because this shock will hit. It has for many, many years. You can go back to the 70s, you can go back to 2008. The shock will hit at some point, that residual effect will come. And so it's about being proactive, moving a portion of your money outside of the traditional dollar bills that are invested in 401ks and IRAs and into gold, silver, platinum, palladium, something that is stable and safe. And this is what our guides help you educate yourself on. It's your choice. We're just here to help.
John Solomon
Yeah, I read them all the time. It makes me a better journalist, analyst and a better investor. Shannon, we love this partnership. Thanks for giving us a good update tonight on an important topic. We'll be back to you real soon, but appreciate the conversation as always, my friend.

Welcome back, everybody. If you are a gamer or if you grew up back in the early back in the early 2000s, y' all are making me feel geriatric. If you grew up back in the early 2000s, you have definitely heard our next guest work. He is a composer and audio director who is responsible for creating the musical score for Halo and he is now running for Congress in Nevada. Marty o'. Donnell. Marty, great to speak with you tonight. Thanks for being here.
Marty O'Donnell
Well, thanks for having me, Amanda. This is a pleasure. My pleasure. Yeah, you know, you feel you shouldn't feel old. When I talk, I run into people and they'll have gray in their hair and they'll say, oh man, I played your game when I was in junior high. And I'm like, oh my goodness, thanks.
Amanda Head
You know what that means, though? Marty, that means that you are legendary. It has nothing to do with your age. But talk to us about this. I mean, you know, so many people. People, they know the, the song, they know the soundtrack, but they probably wouldn't think, all right, well, it's going to be a very short jump from composer of Halo to Congress. Talk to us about that transition for you.
Marty O'Donnell
Well, I think that's a pretty easy transition. Obviously, we need more composers in Congress. That's my philosophy. I love the idea that there could be a few creative people in Congress for the most part. For me, I've always been a conservative. Everyone who's ever worked with me knows that I was a conservative. So those people who have worked with me, this is not a surprise. It's not a surprise to my family. I've always been politically active, but basically I had the choice of sort of retiring or continuing in some sort of a career. I don't see politics as a career. I see this more as a civic duty. I see it like jury duty. I want to do my bit. I want to serve my country and then go back to the farm at some point in the future.
Amanda Head
I love that. I love that. Multiple careers. And I think for most people, they would say, gosh, that sounds like multiple lifetimes. But you, you definitely have the ability to do it all. Talk to us about some of the issues that you see pressing this country going into November.
Marty O'Donnell
Sure. The. Obviously, we talk about affordability all the time, and that should have been a conservative Republican word. I feel like the Democrats co opted it. But obviously in my, in my world, inflation is caused by the government. That's. That's who controls the money supply, and that's where inflation comes from. Too much spending, too much taxing, too many bureaucrats, adding red tape to the country and burdening us. That's what I want to see go away. Because people should be able to have. People should be able to have one good job, and that should be enough to raise a family, buy a home, plan for the future, and maybe have a little fun every once in a while, entertainment wise. And I think we need to get back to that. And I see that as a huge, huge issue for the United States and especially people in my district.
Amanda Head
Absolutely. Do you anticipate. I mean, we've been talking about pocketbook issues for the last, gosh, eight or ten months or so, and anytime we have members of Congress on this show, that's what they're talking about. Do you think Republicans on Capitol Hill have made enough of an argument? Do you Think President Trump has done enough when it comes to affordability that that will help Republicans keep the majority?
Marty O'Donnell
Yes, I do, actually. I think the big beautiful bill is a huge great step in the right direction, especially the people that I talk to out here. No tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security. These are things that I like to say is a way of being nice to the goose and the goose that lays the golden egg. If you treat the goose well, we'll get more golden eggs. And the goose is the working class, the middle class, small business owners, and they've been treated poorly by the government for way too long. I think President Trump has gotten the ball rolling. I think Republicans in the House and the Senate have to keep that message front and center. And I think we will be very successful in the midterms if we do that.
Amanda Head
I think so. You know, you mentioned the creative side of things and I happen to agree with you. I think we should have more creative people on Capitol Hill. And we are now having this clash of titan industries now between the creative industry and the tech industry and also government with AI. And I would love to get your thoughts on that because I feel like up on Capitol Hill, if you are elected, you would be a really great resource to have when it comes to regulators regulating AI and keeping it within some type of guardrails.
Marty O'Donnell
There are so many acquaintances and people I've worked with over the years that I've talked to, and they're not necessarily conservative, they might not even really be all that political, but they've gotten heavily into AI and they're doing amazing things with AI and I understand certainly a portion of what they're doing. But this is old friends of mine who are, are young, but they're doing amazing things with AI and I know I can call them at any time and get them to explain what exactly is going on. And as someone who was in the tech industry for almost 30 years, possibly longer if you consider what I did as a jingle composer. But using a lot of tech, though, I feel like you need people like me in Washington that have been, have been in tech, understand tech, understand how to use tech, also been in the creative industries. So we understand the impact on creativity and white collar jobs and have some knowledge about it. I think we're just starting to see, we're certainly seeing the importance of winning the AI race as a country. But exactly what AI is going to do, it's remains to be seen. But it's important enough that I think Congress is going to have to be looking at it. And we need people in Congress who understand it. And that's, that's not a given.
Amanda Head
No, I know. Well, and I think that regulation on this obviously right now is incremental, but I think it's going to be continual because it's a technology that is continually evolving and we as humans are, you know, continually evolving when it comes to figuring out how to use it and for some malevolent forces, how to abuse it. So it's definitely going to be a big part of the conversation. Marty, tell everybody very quickly where they can find your campaign site.
Marty O'Donnell
Yeah, they should go to Marty for Congress and 4 is F O R marty4congress.com they can sign up, they can call, they can contribute, they can participate. And I respond to everybody who texts me or emails me. So we'll have a good conversation.
Amanda Head
Marty, you have such an amazing story. So very interesting. Marty o', Donnell, composer and congressional candidate for Nevada, thanks so much for being with us tonight and good luck in your race. That's all the time we have for this evening. We appreciate you being here on this Friday night. We will be back here on Monday at 6pm Eastern right here on Real America's Voice.
