On this day, March 9th, back in 2007, when I was 37 years old, two ranchers chasing a bull discovered a gruesome scene in Chadron, Nebraska. The ranchers approached a burned tree and discovered that a body was tied to it. The body was identified as Stephen Hataja, who was a math professor at Chadron State University who had been reported missing months earlier. An autopsy revealed that he had died from smoke inhalation and burns, determining that he was alive when the fire was started. There was no evidence that seemed to indicate a suspect. And guess what? The crime is cold and remains unsolved. So happens every day, unfortunately. And you know, we get. I get reached out to you by families still, if not every day, then, then every week or every other day, somebody's sending me a new case. And on Madison. What happened to Madison? Y' all, come on. These crimes don't happen in a vacuum. Right? So calling your tips. Let's, let's do it. It's right here in my backyard and I know your lifers are listening to it. Keep calling in your tips. All right, so let's get down to some true crime time for this Monday, March 9th. I can't believe we're in the, what, the third month of the year already and spring is upon us. Let's roll with it. All right, all right. We're going start out right here at home, about 30 miles away from me in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The old red Stick and Baton Rouge police. Well, you know what, let me see if I can play the audio for you first. This is, this is just sad.

Alexis Maroney is in the newsroom with details on Taylor's criminal history. Michael sylvia. At just 22 years old, Taylor had already been arrested for upset, sexual battery, rape and burglary. Now he's back in jail for similar charges. Neighbors say this is a sleepy area. A lot of people on this street are elderly.

Woody Overton
Yes, it does. If we had more protection out here.

Taylor is facing multiple charges, including rape, obscenity and battery charges. At this time, court dates have not been set. I asked District Attorney Hiller Moore why previous rape charges had been dismissed. Dismissed. When we get a response, we'll put it on our website. That's wbrz.com in the newsroom.
Woody Overton
Alexis Mary, WBRZ, you know, 22 year old kid who's already had charges dismissed for rape and sexual battery etc, for whatever the reasons. And Hill Moore is a good guy. The D, A and B and then my entire life. But the so if they had to release him, I get that for whatever reason, I don't understand it, you know, somebody dropped the ball somewhere or whatever. But this guy gets out 22 years old and he rapes, breaks into the home of a 94 year old woman and rapes her. 94 years old, it's 10 years older than my mother. And what do you, what do you get sexually from being with a 94 year old lady, even if it was consensual. But 94 year old lady sitting in her house, her locked house. This kid breaks in and he's been out what for two months off other rape charges and rapes her. Now they used to call that aggravated rape in the state of Louisiana and now they changed it I think to like, I don't know, first degree rape or something like that. But the AG rape charges, anybody over 82 you could get the death penalty for, although no one had ever gotten it. And this dude just desert, he doesn't deserve to breathe. He's been out for two months and at 94, come on, man. You know, I some people, and I know I'm a hard ass on that y', all, but some people just don't deserve to breathe in. This dude did it, he's done it before and got off for whatever reason. I, that's our judicial system and it is what it is. But I, I, I don't get it, man. I don't get it. That dude, he really needs prison justice. He doesn't even need to go to trial. All right, I'm going to keep it in Baton Rouge. The in this one foreign. Eastbound sheriff's deputies say a pink handgun was Found inside a kindergartner's backpack at Flame elementary school this morning. Deputies say the gun was loaded and was put in her backpack by the student's mom, 36 year old Venecia McCray. According to investigators, McCray says she put the gun in the side of her child's backpack and forgot to remove it before she left. McCray was arrested, charged with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
Woody Overton
Okay, so again, the world we live in, I get it, everybody, you know, you have a right to bear arms and all that, but your kindergartner doesn't. And what I want to hear the excuse why you thought in, on any planet, in any given time, why you felt it necessary to put your pistol in your kindergarten's backpack. And then your excuse is, oh, I just forgot about it. Oh, God. I mean, you know, this lady, Ms. McCrae is 36. She says she had placed the gun in a backpack before leaving the house. And McCray put the gun in the side pocket of the child's back and forgot to get it out. The. During the investigation, the child said she moved it from the side pocket to the inside of the backpack on the way to school. I mean, what the. Why put it in your. What are they, five years old in kindergarten? You know, I. I'm very thankful. Very, very thankful the handgun was found and nothing bad happened other than mom is a dumb, dumb. It's time for worldwide crime. It's time for family matters. Gonna go across the pond and tell you about a man who repeatedly strangled and headbutted his former partner. Right? Strangled and headbutted. You ever been headbutted? This hurts. And I don't want anybody putting anything around my neck. I can't stand to have my neck touch. But this dude, you know, his partner, the. He strangled and headbutted him. But guess what? He's. He got four years in jail. Liam O', Rourke, who's 50 years old, of Welbeck way, Louth, Lincolnshire, was convicted of two charges of non fatal strangulation and actual bodily harm. And this, he went to trial, y', all, in Lincoln Crown court. In addition, O' Rourke must serve 12 months on extended license, their version of parole on his release from jail as there was ample evidence of his danger to women. According to judge Katrina Knight. A. A restraining order was also made preventing him having any future contact with the victim. Well, I'm pretty sure if he wants to do it, he's going to do it anyway, right? Like the 22 year old, you know, the 94 year old had her door lock. He lock. He's an honest man. Honest. But restraining orders do not stop people from killing people. And back to the court. Then an impact statement read to the court. The the victim described the trauma of going through the court process. She said I had to relive it all. She said she was gutted at how the relationship had ended and her work had been amazing 99% of the time. Right. Amazing until he choked you and headbutted you. But that 1% was was the most hurtful and violent I have ever known and suffered. Now the victim felt Morse to move away due to her experience.

She said I feel like my life

will never be the same again. When the court was told O' Rourke had 50 previous convictions for 90 offenses, said that he got arrested for 90 different crimes. Got 50 what 60% conviction rate on those 90 crimes and that's just the one they they know about. And she said no, he was good 99% of the time. Well the judge Knight told him you were found guilty of strangling and headbutting your then partner on the night of July 28th of 2025 and into the morning of July 29th. She said there were repeated strangulations over the night. And she added to the victim was obviously vulnerable at the time as she'd been discharged from the hospital just two weeks earlier following the treatment for stage three cancer.

I'm not big on New Year's resolutions and I don't sit around making promises myself I'm not going to keep. But I do believe in starting the year doing things right. That means sleeping when I can, eating decent, staying active and paying attention when something feels off. And for a lot of people, especially women, feeling tired or foggy at the start of the year gets written off as stress or burnout. When low, iron can actually be part of the problem. Iron deficiency affects one in three adults, and the symptoms don't always jump out at you. It can show up as constant fatigue even when you're sleeping enough, brain fog or trouble concentrating, frequent headaches, irritability or brittle nails and hair breakage. When iron levels are low, your body has to work harder to deliver oxygen, and that can impact your energy focus,

mood and physical performance.

An iron deficiency can exist long before anything turns into anemia, which means you can feel it well before it shows up on paper. That's why I recommend sideroll from Pharma Nutra. Citrol is a premium iron supplement powered by the patented Sucrosomil technology. This technology helps your body absorb iron three to four times more effectively than standard iron supplements without the common stomach issues people complain about like nausea and constipation. She's home from the hospital for less than two weeks, survive in cancer and you're gonna choke her all night long and headbutt her and torture. Right. There you have it. Figure it out. All right. All this next story I told you about it last week about the three women. I think one was in the 30, one was in her 60s and one was in their 80s found murdered in Utah. Well guess what they call it the that did it. And it's a 22 year old man randomly killed three women he did not know during a violent murder spree in rural Utah community before stealing their cars and credit cards because he said he knit it. He needed money to get back home to Iowa, y'. All. So Ivan Miller is our the day of Blacksburg, Iowa. He was taken into custody on Thursday in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, 370 miles from the scene of the crimes in Wayne County. Police said Miller had a handgun and a large knife from on him when he got arrested. Now Miller told FBI agents he said it had to be done, but I didn't like to do it. And he's been charged with three counts of aggravated murder for the murders of the three women. And like I told you, one that was in her 80s and found dead at her home in Lyman and two women who were going hiking together on the Coxcomb Trail at the Capitol Reef national park and they haven't released their names yet. The 22 year old told the FBI that he had hit an elk in Utah days earlier and sold his truck to a tow company before he decided he didn't like to be on Pitt and pat beat his feet on the street anymore. He just needed a new vehicle. So he spent the night in the back shed of the woman, the lady that was in her 80s. He he slept in a shed in her backyard. All right. And he later saw her drive away in a beautiful Buick layer. He then waited for her inside the house. Okay. He Breaks into house, the house, obviously hiding behind the door. And when she got home and sat down to watch television, he walks up behind her and shot her in the back of the head.
BetterHelp/Mood/Hers Sponsor
Then he drug her body to the
Woody Overton
basement of an outbuilding and he drove away. But, yeah, Buick Sabers, I don't even know if they still make them. But he decides in this, in his
BetterHelp/Mood/Hers Sponsor
own words, y', all, he decided, I
Woody Overton
don't really like this car. I don't like this beautiful saver, and I'm gonna find me a different vehicle. And that's unfortunately for these two women. He saw them getting out of a white Subaru at a trailhead at the Capitol Reef National Park. Now, the court documents the charges claim he shot one of the women dead and then shot and stabbed the other woman before dragging their bodies to a ditch. And Miller, our bad guy, said he did it because he needed money. Miller said that he took their credit cards and he used the old older woman's card to buy gas. Miller said that his intent was to get back to Iowa. Miller confessed that it had his words. It had to be, it had to be done, but he did not like to do it. Well, The two women, one in her 30s and one in her 60s, were found by their husbands who had gone to the scene to look for them. They raised the alarm and the police found the first vehicle was not far from seeing being built with sabre and that course they run the license plate and they go to the address on file and that's when they found the deceased lady, 80s, you know, the 80 year old lady. So Lieutenant Cameron Rhoden, who's a spokesman for the Utah Highway Patrol, told the Independent that was no indication that Miller had any connection with any of the women. He said it does not appear these women were specifically targeted other than the convenience of the suspect stealing their vehicles. And following the discoveries of the bodies, an urgent manhunt was launched with police. Police appealing for information about the victim's stolen vehicle, the white Subaru Outback, which I told y' all about. Police made the rest after tracking the Subaru from the trailhead in Utah through Arizona in the Colorado. And the car was found abandoned in Pagosa Springs, which ultimately led to the suspect. The suspect was arrested around what, 2:40am on Thursday morning. And he didn't, he didn't run like a little bitch and he, you know, whatever, he just gave the fuck up because he's a wuss. But he can shoot women in the head and stab him to death. And when they arrested him, they Did a brief search of the area and they found he that he had a concealed handgun and a large knife. And they go on and on to talk, you know about the, the community that it happened in and stuff like that doesn't happen there, et cetera, et cetera. And there's only like 3,000 people that live there. But evil knows no population restriction, right? It can happen in a rural area, it can happen in the big cities, whatever. This dude, Utah man. If you don't get the death penalty, I don't know what, what world he doesn't get the death penalty. It's time for family matters y'. All. We're going out to London, Kentucky and this is another sad sad story. And a Kentucky woman fired several shots at her mother. But then she called 911 and asked for help. Brianna Rich, 27 was charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of her mom who is 50 year old Carol Rich. And according to the Lahore county sheriff's office, deputies responded to lunch the London Kentucky home where the mother and daughter lived after they got reports of the sheeting this back on March 14th of 2025 the person who called 911 was a shooter, Brianna Rich. And she told dispatchers this 911 which Emergency, emergency. She said I just shot my mother. So according to the report by the local Fox affiliate wdky, Brianna Rich told now one dispatchers that she shot her mother around five times after the two had had a physical altercation. Brianna Rich said during a call, I'm holding blankets on her wounds and she doesn't have a pulse and there's lots of blood. When these flash. Brianna, when you put five bullet holes in your mother, there's going to be lots of blood. So the dispatcher asked Brianna Rich what had happened before the shooting. She said my mom came at me trying to hurt me and choke me and it's been going on for a while now. I hadn't been able to go out of the house. Ms. Brianna, you are 27 fucking years old.
BetterHelp/Mood/Hers Sponsor
You shouldn't certainly get out of the
Woody Overton
house without shooting your mother five times or call 911 before then, right? Stupid. So Carol Rich, our victim was found by the first responders outside the house and of course she was pronounced at the scene. Family members told the local CBS affiliate that Brianna Rich was staying at her mother's house while she dealt with a drug problem that may have become active again after she was sober for two years. In an interview with the local Debbie wdky, Brianna Rich's older sister Bridget Said the fatal shooting was not the first time her sister tried to kill her mother. Bridget said that her younger sister tried to stab Carol Rich several years ago but was stopped by her mom's boyfriend at the time. And Brianna's been charged with murder and is in custody in Laura County Corrections Center. The ah, man that I, I don't know, I mean I guess it would have been better if mom got a chance to defend herself. Evidently that was firearm and air. I would rather see this 27 year old doper dead than her 50 year old mother dead. But there you have it, the way the ball balances, right? All right, I'm gonna tell you one that's about to you up the a 47 year old Michigan man will spend decades behind bars four torturing and killing his visually impaired girlfriend after locking her in a motel room where he abused her for more than a week. And then he kills her, y'. All. And he stays with her body for days. So Daniel J. Barnes played no contest Tuesday to one count each. A second degree murder, torture and concealing a death in for his murder of Teresa M. Johnson and Barnes reached a deal with prosecutors to serve 32 years in a state correctional facility. Listen to this. Johnson's mutilated body was discovered at the roadway in and Suites in Saginaw, which is about 100 miles northwest of Detroit back on September 1st of 2024. And according to the report from M Live, Johnson's body was discovered by a drug dealer who met Barnes at a nearby gas station to sell him crack. But Barnes reportedly took the drugs and ran without paying the dealer the the 60 bucks that they had agreed upon. Well, dealer doesn't like that, right? So he called Barnes and Barnes said, you know what kind of my motel room dealer gets to the motel room. And he testified this to this in Coryo. And he saw a human body on the bed covered with blankets. And when he gets there, of course he's crying. Barnes, hey, you ran my, you know, $60 worth of crack. Warren's just trying to explain why he stole the drugs. Barnes then gestures towards the bed and told the dealer he also had this situation going on. I stole, you know, I stole your shit because I didn't really have the money. I need to get high. But you know what, I got this going on right now too. Well then the dealer then asks what's beneath the covers. And Barnes responds, quotations, you know exactly what that is. He then removes the blanket and shows Johnson's body which the dealer said she had been dead for. It appeared to have been dead for at least a few days. Barnes reportedly claimed Johnson had died from injuries she sustained while visiting friends a few days earlier, and noting that no one knew Johnson was with him at the hotel. And Barnes indicated to the dealer that it would be easy to dispose of her body. If it's so easy, motherfucker, why hadn't you done it before now? Well, you know, people have their professions, and just because you're a drug dealer doesn't mean, you know, you, you're not a human being. You don't have a heart. And this dealer was actually a good guy on the inside because he left the room and he called 911 and says there's a dead body in the room. Police arrived shortly after, and Barnes, he
BetterHelp/Mood/Hers Sponsor
ran like a little
Woody Overton
on foot and he ran into the forest nearby. But I'm pretty sure, Mr. Barnes, you're a crackhead. You're not in top physical shape, and you're in the woods and they see your girlfriend's dead body in the room, they're coming after you. And they did, y', all. And they surround the woods, put a perimeter, and they located in the woods around 4pm that same day. So they get him in and detectives get him past Miranda and say, hey, man, you know, just tell us what happened. And Barnes admitted to committing several acts brutality against Johnson. And he, he said that he beat her with his fist boots and various objects, as well as using needle nose pliers on Johnson's mouth to shut her up. I was fishing this weekend. I had to use neither nose pliers to reach inside a fish's mouth and rip it out. I can't imagine what he did with the needle nose pliers. And he actually said this. He said at one point that he beat the out of her. At one point in the conversation, he said he had hit her at least 10 times. Well, inside the motel room, police recovered scissors, a ratchet, side cutters, screwdrivers, and pliers, all of which had our victim Johnson's blood on them, bruh, when the this was on, because a crackhead ain't gonna do all that. So they sent her for an autopsy and determined that Johnson's cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries, recent and remote, with related complications.

A woman who had been staying next to Barnes for more than two months told local WJRT that she had no inkling anything so violent could have been happening in his room. She said absolutely not. No for the entire whole two Two and a half months that has been our neighbor, and we've seen him every single day. Well, nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors, huh? And y' all remember this lady was blind and say, I mean, I can't imagine anything more horrible than having being brutally murdered and tortured and beaten, stomped and everything else, other than not being able to see it coming. But you know it's coming. He saw kinds make the world go around. All right, we're gonna go roll out to my second favorite state. Yes, Wisconsin. And I had Shane McBride here this weekend, and we had a good time. We got to eat some fire ass crawfish, Big J side porch and steak and everything else. And love my Wisconsin peeps. Right? Well, a Wisconsin man is accused of committing a home invasion. And. He allegedly told police that work wasn't going well that morning. So this these name is NAQUAN Blake. He's 26 years old. He's charged with armed burglary, reckless endangerment, false imprisonment, attempted sexual assault. All right, this is after police said he broke into a home in Milwaukee on February 26, and he held two women at gunpoint before the officers got there to arrest him. And according to the criminal complaint, which was reviewed by Law and Crime, Blake told police after his arrest that he took ecstasy, the love drug. Right. That morning before going to his job. Well, when he got to the job, they call it rolling, y'. All. And he got the job. Evidently, he was rolling balls and he left early. So police said that a witness who was at the House on February 26 to do some home repair services saw Blake, who asked him, hey, man, how many people were inside the house? The witness told police that Blake said, I'm going to this up. Now, he believed Blake was carrying a gun on his sweatshirt, so he followed his orders to go inside the house, but before he was inside, Blake let him go and he ran and called 911. Thankfully. Now, according to the complaint, Blake made his way into the house, where he was spotted in the laundry room by a female friend of the homeowner. A friend told police that she saw a man, Blake, with a joint in his mouth, slurred speech, and red eyes, and he was carrying a handgun. And he told a friend, he said, show me what I'm looking for. Well, the homeowner told police that she could barely remember the details of the home invasion because she was so focus on the gun pointed in her face, and she thought she was going to die. Call it tunnel vision, y'. All. If you ever stare down the Barrel of a pistol, which I have, could be the small. It could be a.22 caliber pistol, the smallest one in the world. And it looks like a Howard so Cannon. Right? So. But some point, Blake pointed his gun at both the homeowner and her friend, and he fired a shot at a window above the homeowner's head. Now, while holding the two women at gunpoint, Blake exposed himself, Right? I mean, the. When you think he just can't get any shittier, he's fired a shot, he's holding you at gunpoint. Then he whoops out his hair bomb. So he whips out his tool and exposes himself. And he attempted to force her to perform oral sex on him, telling her, give me what I want. But she begged him to let the homeowner leave, and Blake complied, then walked around the house with the friend to make sure no one else was inside. Right. So the friends that literally taken the bullet for just let her leave. I'll do what you want. Police said that Blake asked about the vehicles that were at the house and told the friend that he wants to take her Jeep. He agreed to let her remove her dog. And child sees first how nice of him that was. When the officers from the Milwaukee Police Department arrived and Sugar turned the ship, they tried to arrest Blake. Blake said, you go fuck yourselves. And. But. And then remember, y', all, he's got a gun. He's already fired it. So we'll just say they use whatever force necessary to bring the situation under control. And they got his firearm away from him, which was a loaded Glock, which magically, or not unexpectedly, it was stolen. The pistol was stolen. An officer from the Milwaukee Police Department wrote in the complaint that Blake told police he headed to the lakefront after work wasn't going well. Blake claimed that taking Ecstasy made him horny, and he went to the house to get what's owed to him from the ladies there. Okay, so the local ABC affiliate WISN interview Blake's grandmother. I mean, come on. What's Granny really gonna know about it? And what's Granny gonna say? Anything bad about him? No. But her name was Ellen Toombs, and they said she was visibly upset by the allegations against her grandson. And she said he couldn't be in his right mind. That's not him. Well, thankfully, no one was murdered, and Blake was charged with false imprisonment, armed burglary, reckless endangerment, attempted sexual assault, and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Imagine that. He's. He's got priors, and he's currently locked up in Milwaukee County Jail and being held on fifty thousand dollar cash bond. So left work because it wasn't going well. The ecstasy made me horny. We've done a lot of stores on X over the years, but I don't think it any of the, any of them led to rape and like that. So all right, we're gonna go out to Texas. Harris county, home of Leah Maria, Investigator producer. You know the ah, Texas is probably one of the toughest states on the death penalty and if you kill a cop, nine times out of 10 you're going to get the death penalty. But I'm telling you about a guy named Tyron Green and he got sentenced to life in prison for shooting a Harris county deputy. One of the deputies stopped him way back in 2023 on a traffic stop. So a jury sentenced Toronto Green to life imprisonment Wednesday in the 2023 traffic stop shooting Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Joseph Anderson, which sparked a manhunt that ended with police demolishing the house where Green was hiding. Prosecutors said it was a miracle that the deputy that's why. And then it didn't kill him. Prosecutors said it was a miracle that the deputy survived his injuries. And had Anderson died, The Harris County DA's office would have sought the death penalty against Green. As corner prosecutor Katie Warren said during our closing arguments, Green, who's 36 years of age, was convicted last week of aggravated assault of a public servant, pursued Deputy Anderson. The jury only took 45 minutes, y' all in before they came back with the guilty Omagreen. He ain't worried. You get a certain amount of statute for shooting a cop when you go to prison. Right. And I'm sure he's a freaking flyer. So the they come back with the guilty. They're manned into the, you know, in the custody and they were Green. Thus he smiles at his mom and another family member as the jury left the courtroom. Motherfucker, you're going to prison for a long time. But you know that phased me. I'm a smile at my mom's. And another family member. So Deputy Anderson declined to make a victim impact statement following the birdie and went back to work in a misdemeanor court where he is now a bailiff. But the trial Testimony started on February 24th and ended Tuesday with Green's aunt speaking as the lone witness for his defense. Now, Anderson testified he almost didn't pull Green over for speeding back in 2023. He said Tuesday that he would have let Green drive on had he slowed down after he Clocked clock and speed on his radar, Anderson was eager to meet his twin brother, who's also a deputy, for dinner. Right. He's like, damn it, this dude's hauling ass and I'm getting off, I'm gonna get my, my brother for dinner. Don't want to do this, but here he goes. Anderson was doing his job because Green didn't slow down. Then he's like, if I let him go at this speed, he caused a wreck, he might kill somebody. So Anderson pulls him over in a 13500 block of Homestead. And not knowing the driver, Green was wanted after skipping court. Frequent flyer, right. So Deputy Anderson went to the side of Green's vehicle to get his driver's license from the back seat. And Green pulls a pistol and shoots him multiple times, his body worn. Camera footage showed Anderson being thrown backwards as a bullet struck him. One came within millimeters of his heart. The this led to a nearly 24 hour manhunt which led to another deputy and two US Marshals with the Gulf Coast Filing offenders task force being shot and wounded as they closed in on Greens northeast Harris county hideout. Green headed on his mind. Yeah, but he's still smiling after he gets sentenced or after he gets found guilty. So he shoots two more. Thank God all of them are alive, right? And, but I mean, doesn't suck any less for them. Shoots them and he's hiding out one of the cops. Like, you know what, I'm pretty sure if we had a fucking M1 Abrams tank, we'd use it. But they didn't. So they got two bulldozer like machines known as rooks. And Green was inside the rental home and they hooked the rooks to the rental home and they ripped it apart. And Green was hiding in a second floor room. The standoff ended with Green hugging the machine's extended arm and being lowered to law enforcement waiting below. That ought to be made into a movie, right? With the tearing down the walls. I mean you've already. He didn't know if he killed those cops and what he shot four in total and. But he knew damn well knew they were going to kill him. And he better be thankful I'm sure that the TV cameras were around or they couldn't approaching. I mean he's already shot all these cops. You're going in on as a SWAT team or SRT team and you're gonna make safe as you can for your people. So you call in these rooks, which I'm guessing are like track hose, and you just tear the whole building down. Like, oh, no, you don't want to come out. Well, we're not gonna get anybody else shot. We're gonna rip the walls down one by one. We're gonna peel this onion till we find you on the inside. And he did. And they had torn down the staircase. So he had to ride down the armor to Rook after throwing away his firearm, cuffed and stuff, going to prison. But not before he got to smile at his mama. Thank God the law enforcement is all alive. So there you have it. I don't know. Lots of crazy whack ass stories, but then that's just true crime. Time for sin's not in with me again. Today y' all were working on.
